The Golden Tour brings legends to life. You will hear stories about the history of gold in Ivalojoki, Lemmenjoki and Tankavaara areas and the people associated with them. Finland’s first gold rush began in 1869 in River Ivalojoki and today gold prospecting in Lapland continues as Europe’s most vibrant gold washing tradition. 

In the Golden World exhibition, under the world’s largest gold pan, our guide will introduce you the peculiarities of gold panning in different parts of the world and the gold discoveries that have changed the course of world history.

This was a lovely tour that I would recommend to anyone who is new to Finland. Everything was easy. Transfer drivers were on time at each stop. Alex, the tour director, made everyone feel welcome and important. His knowledge of the Nordic and Baltic states is amazing. And he seems to be fluent in just about every European language. The local Helsinki guide (I’m embarrassed to say I forget her name) was also knowledgeable and very happy to answer questions. The train rides to Lappeenranta and back were very comfortable. In Lappeenranta I was particularly spoiled as I was the only person for this leg of the tour, so I had the guide to myself. Arja was a delight. As a long time resident and business owner of the town, she knew it inside out. We strolled like old friends through the streets and pathways as I soaked up the beautiful scenery, culture and history of the this beautiful land. I would highly recommend this tour for the relaxing and informative time it provides.

Alternate accommodations were made for us at the Logging Lodge / Oulangan maja due to gi illness at basecamp. Overall, Martii organized a very good trip, food was great, everyday we did something different. Ismo and Elina were wonderful to work with when Martii was not with us. Loved the Husky sledding day. Glad we went despite changes of plan/ location. Thanks.

Guided walking tour in Old Rauma

The best way to explore the unique area of Old Rauma is on foot. The guide will lead the group to the narrow and meandering streets. During the tour you will see the beautiful details of Old Rauma and hear the history and modern life of this culturally valuable area.

Bilingual (Finnish/English) guided tour is on Sundays 7.7.–25.8.2023. Start from the Market Square, in front of the Old Townhall (Kauppakatu 13) at 11.30. Duration of the tour is 1,5 hours. Ticket is 10 € / person (children under 15 free of charge). Ticket must be purchased in advance from home museum Marela Museum Shop (Kauppakatu 24) or Savila Tourist Information Office (Savilankatu 8).

Tour to Sammallahdenmäki

Sammallahdenmäki was chosen for the UNESCO World Heritage list as the first archaelogical site in Finland. The guide leads the group along a path to this burial site remaining from the Bronze Age. The area covering almost a kilometre contains 36 burial cairns of different shapes and sizes, the most famous of them being Kirkonlaattia, the Church Floor, and the long cairn of Huilu. Stories and tales brighten up the tour. Sammallahdenmäki is located in the middle of beautiful Finnish forest.

The tour is organized on Thursdays 4.7.–29.8.2023. The tour includes bus transportation from city centre and a guided bilingual (Finnish/English) one hour walking tour in Sammallahdenmäki. Departure at 14.00 from Rauma bus station charter bay (Tallikedonkatu 13). Return to the city centre at 16.15 at the latest.

Ticket of the tour is 10 € / person (children under 15 free of charge). Ticket must be purchased in advance from home museum Marela’s Museum Shop (Kauppakatu 24) or Savila Tourist Information Office (Savilankatu 8).
