“The travel business is just in my blood,” says Nitin Gaba, whose father Ravinder and uncles Manoharlal and Ashwani own Gaba Travel. “My father came here from India in the seventies, fell in love with travelling on the way here, and the family has been in the business ever since.” Grounded in a deep love of travel and a desire to help customers experience its wonder for themselves, Gaba Travel takes the time to help customers plan and book the best trip for their needs, budgets and desires.

“We’re a fully family-run business. We have locations in Vancouver, Surrey, Abbotsford and Mississauga, and three in India, and they are all managed by our family,” Nitin explains, “so you’re dealing directly with the owners or a very close relation, not a big corporate structure. You get that personal touch.”

The Gaba family is heavily involved in every level of the business, coordinating and cooperating to ensure that every client leaves happy and satisfied with the travel experience they’ve booked.

It was my first time with Gaba Tavel, And having read the reviews I wasn't very confident but I tried my luck. The service is good, prices they offer are definitely good and I would like to mention that Mr Malik was very helpful. I kept changing my options but he patiently helped me. I would definitely recommend it.

I was a customer for a long time. Malik was very very rude, I would say provides Zero customer service and misleads and misguides and collect money. My self my family and friends will never go back again.

Worst Management! My actual flight date was different than what was handled over to me. I would never ever recommend anyone to go there.

Found them arrogant

I found many travel services to be more helpful and more friendly. I would not use them based on the calls I made and inquiries I made in person. One of the group was extremely arrogant, I find that a deal breaker in any business. Sorry..

Founder of Gaba Travels

Meet Mr. Manoharlal Gaba, a man who journeyed far. Born on the other side of the border, Mr. Gaba’s family found refuge in the same village as Begum Noor Jahan after the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947., a famous beauty who had the Taj Mahal dedicated to her. Mr. Gaba started Gaba Travels in Nurmahal, Jalandhar (Punjab) and later moved to Canada. He worked tirelessly to establish Gaba Travels as a reputable company in both Canada and Punjab. Though he passed away in 2018, his legacy lives on. Mr. Gaba’s tireless efforts, unwavering commitment to excellence and his kind nature continue to inspire others to this day.

Moscow’s main street has seen it all – from Stalin’s death to devastating violence

Tverskaya Street was initially too narrow and winding, and the Soviet authorities didn’t take the easy route when thinking up a way to widen it. They devised a plan to physically move a number of historical buildings without demolishing them. The buildings were lifted by jacks and moved on specially-laid rails. It took just 40 minutes to move the building for Mossovet (the Moscow mayor's office), and in total 26 buildings were moved in this way. Moreover, sometimes the people inside were not even been told and simply woke up on a new location the following morning.

During World War II, aerostatic barrage balloons hovered over the city. They were tethered to the ground by numerous cables that were tied to explosives, blowing up airplanes if they collided with a balloon or cable. Aerostatic balloons forced enemy aircraft to fly at a higher altitude than planned, making it more difficult for them to aim their bombs when nose-diving.

There was one occasion when the Germans did march through Moscow , but not in the way they had intended. On July 14, 1944  captured Germans were secretly brought to the capital and even many Communist Party officials and members of the military knew nothing about it. Early on the morning of July 17 the march was announced on the radio, and nearly 60,000 Wehrmacht prisoners-of-war processed through the main streets of Moscow. They were followed by water sprinkler trucks, symbolically washing the city of "filth."

About two million people wanted to see Joseph Stalin’s body following his death. On March 9, the day of the funeral, the central streets of Moscow could not physically accommodate all these people, but the authorities decided to block off side streets, preventing the crowd from dispersing in different directions. This caused a crush in which many people were trampled or died from asphyxiation. Mortuaries and registry offices were instructed to falsify the cause of death on the victim’s death certificates.

In the 1970s, queues became one of the most persistent symbols of Tverskaya Street. People queued for everything – from doughnuts to boots.

In the 1990s, Tverskaya Street, like the rest of the city, was taken over by semi-legal private street traders. Makeshift counters created from cardboard boxes and stalls filled Tverskaya Street, causing it to look rather grimy and sordid during this period.

On its opening day on Jan. 31, 1990, about 30,000 people lined up to try a hamburger. Furthermore, McDonald's wasn't even cheap at the time, with a Big Mac costing approximately as much as a monthly metro/bus travel card.

In August 1991, Moscow and Leningrad (St. Petersburg) endured the events surrounding the putsch. The Telegraph (post office) building on Tverskaya Street was evacuated and occupied by motorized riflemen, and there were rallies on Manezh Square and tanks and barricades on Tverskaya Street.

Police raid, 1994

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, prostitution swept over the country, including child and male prostitution. At night Tverskaya Street turned into the "main shop window." The police would frequently launch raids in an attempt to at least drive the prostitutes from the center to Leningradskoye Shosse.

On Aug. 8, 2000, a terrorist attack in the underpass of Pushkinskaya metro station (right in the middle of Tverskaya Street) killed thirteen people and injured another 118. The subsequent investigation identified a group of suspects, all of whom were residents of Chechnya. However, in 2006 the criminal case was closed on the grounds that the perpetrators had presumably died, and the attack remains an unsolved mystery.

After Russia lost to Japan in a World Cup match (and not even a final stage match), fans began burning cars, smashing shop windows and overturning buses. Some of the fans hid in the State Duma building. There were not enough police officers in the vicinity to bring the situation under control. Two people died and 79 were injured.

Longest kiss competition, 2004

As part of a St. Valentine's Day stunt, Tverskaya Street took to kissing and held a competition for the longest kiss. The winning couple locked lips for 46 hours.

Immortal Regiment procession, 2015

This initiative to remember those who fought in WWII originated outside of Moscow, but a procession of this kind passed along Tverskaya Street for the first time on May 9, 2015. People carried portraits of relatives who fought in war. President Vladimir Putin took part, carrying a picture of his war veteran father.

Three coastal cities awarded at least $500,000 for Main Street projects

S OUTH MISSISSIPPI, Miss. (WLOX) - With one signature from Gov. Tate Reeves, more money is now on its way to the Coast to help multiple cities with downtown development.

On April 16, Gov. Reeves signed Senate Bill 2696, a bill created for the Mississippi Main Street Revitalization Grant Program.

19 cities across the state were selected. On the list include Biloxi, Moss Point, and Pascagoula.

Kay Miller with Biloxi Main Street said they received $500,000 along with an additional $125,000 match from the city and organizations, bringing the total to $625,000.

“We’re so excited about this. It’ll help us own our How Hop creative project and we hope to be able to use it for lighting. Our inspiration is Birmingham city place so under their interstate and all the great improvements they’ve made,” said Miller.

She added a $50,000 grant from the Knight Foundation will fund painting and art elements.

“We have the Farmer’s Market, we have First Friday, and they just had Llamaroo under here. It’s just become a gathering place,” said Miller.

East of I-10 sits another city with a $500,000 grant, Moss Point.

Executive Director Sue Wright shared it positions River City in a new economic era, collecting up to $625,000 from the city and Mississippi Power.

“Designed to accomplish two things, the façade improvements for our historic properties downtown and provide streetscape improvements,” said Wright.”

This will include slowing down traffic downtown so drivers can access businesses and green space more easily.

“It also can include lighting and banners and decorative things to make the city’s appearance better,” said Wright.

Last, but certainly not least of coastal recipients, Pascagoula.

Susannah Northrop said funds are covering the Flagship District Revitalization project.

Match funds were also received from Ingalls Shipbuilding, Mississippi Power, Chevron, CenterPoint Energy, Sparklight, and the city of Pascagoula. That’s nearly one million dollars in funding.

“The goal of the streetscape plan is to focus the connectivity of our downtown area by enhancing our overall district known as the Flagship District,” said Northrop.

The Mississippi Main Street Program is a nearly seven million-dollar operation, all designed to ignite growth in downtown projects.
