The survival of song

Er zijn bij dit concert alleen vaste zitplaatsen.

Het leven en werk van de Ierse singer-songwriter Barry Moore, beter bekend als Luka Bloom, zijn gekenmerkt door woorden, gedragen door de melodieën die zijn hart hem ingeeft. Zijn kracht en charme herbergen zich nog steeds in de manier waarop hij zijn publiek kan verbinden met alle blootgelegde emoties in zijn muziek.

Dit is niet zijn eerste bezoek aan de Benelux. Bloom komt al meer dan 25 jaar naar de Nederlandse en Belgische podia, festivals en concerthallen. De 63-jarige Ier heeft veel mooie herinneringen aan Nederland. Zo benoemde hij de eerste keer dat een gevuld TivoliVredenburg ‘Fertile Rock’ uit volle borst meezong, hij in 1991 per fiets het Pinkpop podium op kwam en de keer dat hij ‘I Need Love’ zong met Michael Franti op Crossing Borders Festival. Ook woonde Bloom rond 1980 woonde hij een tijdje in Utrecht en Groningen.

Gewapend met zijn akoestische gitaar en zijn unieke stem steekt Bloom elk publiek in zijn achterzak. De combinatie van een intrigerend gitaargeluid en de interessante songkeuze staat al meer dan twintig jaar garant voor grootse concertavonden. Vanavond heeft van Bloom de ondertitel ‘The Survival of Song’ meegekregen, omdat we weer samen kunnen komen in één ruimte en de muziek en het leven kunnen vieren. Verwacht nummers van zijn album Bittersweet Crimson (2020) en veel meer – of zoals hij zelf zegt: ‘We will gather and sing together!’

Popular Irish singer-songwriter Luka Bloom is setting Australian cities on fire with his much-anticipated ’50 Years Of Song’ Australian tour. The Irish singer is now performing in cities nationwide until April this year. Luka Bloom’s last Australian tour came in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Luka Bloom is known for his deep sense of social justice and his ability to capture contemporary life in heartfelt lyrics and melodies. He has released four albums since his last visit to Australia. Despite the passing years, his voice remains as sincere and his guitar skills as mesmerizing as ever.

It was in the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. My love for Australia was born, and it has never dimmed, or faded, not in the slightest. Over 14 tours, I have loved every show, every town or city I have played in. It is always fun and always an adventure,“ says Luka Bloom of his connectiont to Australia”.

Luka Bloom continues. “When my 15th tour of Australia begins in February 2024, it will be 5 years since my last visit in 2019. Too long. But there it is; so much has happened in our world. Approaching 70 now, I am closer to my final visit to Australia than my first one. Every gig counts these days. They always did, but especially now. Every opportunity to sing in Australia is precious to me. I am grateful for the welcome you have given me, and my songs. And cannot wait to return”.

He further said about the cities he hasn’t performed yet. “This tour will be long, with cities I have never before sung in, like Cairns, Townsville; and later Albany in the Southwest. It will be great to make some new friends and meet the friends I know already. Since the last tour I have recorded 4 albums. Live in De Roma, is from a concert in the great Roma Theatre in Antwerp, in November 2019”.

Luka Bloom concludes his statement by saying. “Bittersweet Crimson is a studio album from Windmill Lane, recorded in February 2020, just before ’The Great Pause’ of Covid….. Out of the Blue, is an instrumental album recorded during ’The Great Pause’ from 2021. Wave up to the Shore is a collection of 50 songs and tunes from across the 50 years I have been doing this.’ “We have some catching up to do, in the great red land. I can’t wait.”‘
