EDM Star Martin Garrix Talks About His Biggest India Tour Kicking Off This Week

The Dutch DJ and producer arrives for a eight-city run, with two shows in Bengaluru on March 2nd and 3rd

EDM artist Martin Garrix.

At 26 years old, Martijn Garritsen aka Martin Garrix is still the rosy-cheeked, fresh face of electronic music as he was starting out about a decade ago. Supported by the stalwarts of EDM – DJ Tiesto, Hardwell and more – Garrix was propelled into not just dancefloors and mainstay music festivals like Ultra Music Festival in Miami, but also mainstream music culture.

By the age of 19, he was also seeing the other side of the music industry, fighting to own the rights to his millions-streamed catalogue with his former label Spinnin’ Records and his manager. Garrix matured incredibly well, launching his own label Stmpd Records and continued to churning out chart-topper hits, working with artists like Ed Sheeran , Dua Lipa , U2 and JVKE.

Along the way, India has been a fixture in Garrix’s touring schedule since 2013, when he’d launched his breakout song “ Animals .” There were shows in the country for four consecutive years after that and a few other festivals as well. This time around, Garrix is heading to India for his biggest country-spanning tour yet, performing nine shows in eight cities.

Kicking off today in Bengaluru (and a second show on March 3rd), Garrix’s Sunburn Arena tour also takes him to Hyderabad (March 4th), Chennai (March 5th), Pune (March 7th), Mumbai (March 8th), Kolkata (March 10th), Delhi NCR (March 11th) and Ahmedabad (March 12th). Ahead of the tour, Garrix spoke with Rolling Stone India about coming back to the country, the time he flew an F-16 jet and what’s coming up next. Excerpts:

This is the biggest India tour you’re about to undertake in March. How long was it in the works and why did you want to make it this extensive?

Because it’s been so long ago since I visited India last for shows. I’ve done some of my biggest and most amazing shows here, so obviously now after Covid we wanted to make up for the long wait of the fans.

I think you were among the few DJs who made India shows happen right from the early part of your career, would you agree? Do you think that sort of thing goes a long way when you want to keep coming back and have a huge fanbase waiting now in India?

I don’t know if that’s the exact reason, but I do have a big part of my most loyal fanbase in India. A lot of big fan accounts are based here as well.

You’re playing a few cities for the first time. What are you looking forward to outside of the shows, if you’re going to be in so many different parts of India?

The travel for the tour will be quite hectic, but I’m trying to see as much of the country as possible. I would love to visit some iconic landmarks again.

Was there something you’ve missed about India that you’re looking forward to immerse yourself in during this tour?

It’s just the overall atmosphere for me. It’s such a special and unique country, every time I am here, I get inspired by the culture and people.

We saw the whole vlog on flying the F-16 jet. It seems like bucket list stuff, right?

That was definitely a tick on my bucket list and one of the craziest things I’ve ever done. It was amazing to also be able to see all the technical work that goes into getting these jets in the air. It’s an insane team operation.

What kind of setlist do you have in mind for these India shows? Considering it’s a lengthier tour, how much is it going to change from city to city?

We’re working on the show production to create the best shows possible. As far as the music, I will have an outline of songs I definitely will be playing, but will let the energy of the different crowds lead the rest of the show.

What else is coming up through 2023 on the release and festival shows front?

We will be doing a lot of amazing shows. Next to that, I have been working on the music for a new series which I’m super excited about, and of course a lot of new Garrix music is in the pipeline.

A battle with epilepsy could not stop me from finding the rave community or pursuing my passion to write. I was a journalism major at my college writing about sports when my condition took me out of my classes and stuck me in my home to focus on bills and get healthy. Once I got my seizures under control through medication I decided to face my fear of crowds and lasers in order to finally experience house music in festival fashion at Day Trip 2021. I quickly learned that I could continue to rave and manage my condition simultaneously. Then a raver was born! I love house and techno the most, which ironically are the genres that even brought my parents together. The dance music culture and community has connected me with the opportunity to write about my passion, the best of friends, a lover, and good and bad experiences that continue to grow me as a person. I'm based in Southern California let's catch a set!

International DJ Martin Garrix: I have the most loyal and biggest fan base in India

Dutch dj martin garrix is excited to visit india for multi-city tour next month, and party with indian music lovers.

Electronic dance music star DJ Martin Garrix is set to embark on his biggest ever India tour next month, and he admits that the musical outing will surely rekindle his love affair with the country. He will be performing in the country for the first time since 2018.

Martin Garrix will be on a multi-city tour with Sunburn in India in March

“I have been looking forward to this (coming to the country for multi-city performances) for a very long time. I can’t wait to be back in India and party together with all the fans. I think especially after the pandemic we appreciate being able to go to live shows even more, so I have definitely been able to feel that in the crowd’s energy the past year,” says Garrix.

The Dutch DJ, known for tracks such as Animals and Don’t Look Down , has performances lined up in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Ahmedabad. For Garrix, performing in India is always special as “a part of my most loyal, biggest fan base is out there in India, so touring there will always be special.”

“Indian fans are very loyal and really go next level when it comes to their support. Even some of my biggest fan pages are from India,” he adds.

In fact, he will usher in the Holi festivities with his performance in Pune in the first half of the day and then head to Mumbai to perform in the latter half of the day.

“For me, India is such a special, unique country. Every time I am here, I get inspired by the people, the culture and also at the shows, there is so much energy and love from the fans,” says the artist, credited for wildly popular tracks such a Scared To Be Lonely, In the Name of Love, and Summer Days

Opening further about his love for the country, the 26-year-old mentions, “It’s so unique. I am from Amsterdam, which has a completely different culture from India’s. For me, travelling in general, meeting different people is really inspiring. Of course you see India in movies, but being able to see if with your own eyes doesn’t compare. It’s such an experience and will always be inspiring to me as an artist”.

This time, a collaboration with an Indian musician is also on his mind. He says, “I don’t have a specific artist that comes to mind right now, but I’m definitely always open to work with other musicians”.

Garrix, who was ranked No. 1 in the 2022 DJ Mag 100 list of the best DJs in the world for electronic dance music, is happy that music is back in the live scene after pandemic-induced lul.

“We are more grateful for being able to go to live shows again after the pandemic. Not being able to get together and enjoy live music for such a long time was crazy. Something that felt so normal before that, now does feel more special,” he says, adding ,”My main focus is not to live up to certain accomplishments I have had in the past”.

“I want to make sure that the people who listen to my music and go to my shows are happy. I’m of course super thankful for all the support I get and the accomplishments that have gone with it, but for me I’m most grateful and happy to play shows and play my music,” he stresses.

He wraps up with a special message for his fans in India, “Thank you guys so much for the continuous support over the past years and I hope to see you at one of the shows!”

DJ Martin Garrix returns to the country and lets us in on his biggest learnings in this exclusive chat

Martin Garrix

Like any other eight-year-old, Martijn Gerard Garritsen, who was already playing the guitar by then, one day stumbled upon a role model who inspired the musician in him. When Martijn saw Dutch music producer Tiësto performing at the Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Athens in 2004, he instantly became a fan and knew that he too had to become a DJ and thus began his journey. “I remember getting such an adrenaline rush from the music by just watching it on TV,” he shares. Today, 26-year-old Martijn, now better known as Martin Garrix or GRX, is a two-time MTV EMA winner and an artiste who has time and again snatched the #1 DJ position on various music platforms.

The Dutch DJ and music producer arrived on the music scene in 2012 and gained fame after the release of his solo track Animals . The song came out in 2013 and not only became a hit track in several European countries but also made Garrix the youngest artiste to achieve number one position on Beatport, an American electronic music-oriented online store. Over the years, the musician went on to make music with artistes such as Usher, DJ Khalid, Bebe Rexha, Dua Lipa, Tiësto, David Guetta, Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Avicii and Troye Sivan.

The young musician took his career up a notch when he headlined the first edition of Ultra South Africa in 2014 and became the youngest DJ to do so at the tender age of 17. There was no turning back for the artiste as he continued to amaze the world with his performances at world renowned music festivals like Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, Tomorrowland and Creamfields .

martin garrix indian tour

Amidst all of this, the DJ, in 2016, announced that he now owns a record label company through a Dutch TV show and his YouTube miniseries, The Martin Garrix Show . The label titled Stmpd Rcrds was inspired by his father’s stamp auctioning company. The musician released Now That I’ve Found You , as the first song of the label, which features vocals of John Martin and Michel Zitron. That’s not all; he also co-starred alongside British DJ Carl Cox in the EDM-themed documentary, What We Started, directed by Bert Marcus, which premiered at the LA Film Festival in 2017.

Martin, who is well-known for songs like In the Name of Love, Summer Days and Scared to Be Lonely , announced his debut album Sentio in 2022. Spanning 11 tracks, Sentio features numerous big names including Matisse & Sadko, Julian Jordan and Justin Mylo among others as collaborators. Once the dust around his new album settled down, the artiste dropped another big piece of news that no one saw coming. One of the biggest collaborations of his career to date came to be with the cinematic universe/comic giants Marvel . The DJ was handed a task to curate an official anthem along with American singer-songwriter JVKE for their upcoming Marvel Snap video game. The anthem titled Hero went live in December and the track is all about the trials and tribulations of falling in love. The music video offers special animated clips of Marvel’ s most iconic pairings like Spider-Man and Mary Jane, Vision and Scarlet Witch and Storm and Black Panther.

Garrix, who visited India in 2018, returns to the country for his most expansive tour ever in association with Sunburn Arena. The Dutchman will kick off his tour today in Bengaluru followed by Hyderabad before heading to Chennai, Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata and New Delhi. His Indian tour will culminate in Ahmedabad on March 12. Ahead of his India tour, we catch up with the artiste and learn more about what the audience can expect from his performance, lessons he has learnt by being a part of the music industry, his love for Formula 1 and the camaraderie he shares with racers Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Excerpts:

This is your sixth visit to India. Apart from the fans, what keeps you coming back? For me, it is such a special and unique country. Every time I am here, I get inspired by the people and the culture and also at the shows; there is so much energy and love from the fans. That’s definitely what keeps bringing me back to the country.

Besides your performances, what are you looking forward to from your visit? Are there any places you would like to explore? My India Tour travel schedule is quite hectic. I will see if I can fit in some visits to landmarks or at least try to stroll around a bit. I love to experience the culture of the countries I visit.

martin garrix indian tour

How did you end up becoming a DJ? It all started for me when I saw Tiësto perform at the Olympics. They aired it on TV and I remember getting such an adrenaline rush from the music by just watching the performance from our living room. After that, I started experimenting with electronic music purely as a hobby. I never thought that it would get me this far.

You recently released Hero in collaboration with Marvel and JVKE. How did that project come about? Marvel Snap approached us to create a song for their brand-new game. I love exploring new territories with my music and creating music for a game is a different process. Working with the superhero theme we created Hero and I am super excited we had JVKE on the song as well. He is an amazing vocalist.

In the last five years, how would you say your music has evolved? I always like to experiment and explore when it comes to my sound. I have reached out and tried other styles and genres but there is still so much I would like to discover. It might sound crazy, but I still feel like I am at the start.

Which genre do you enjoy the most? I don’t have a favourite, to be honest. I like the different dynamics you can add to your set by playing different genres.

What kind of tracks can the audience expect at your performances during this tour? The Garrix hits will be featured in my set of course, as well as some new music. I always have to make sure I play songs the crowd wants to hear and combine those tracks with some exciting new music.

As a young artiste, how challenging has it been for you to keep up with the benchmark year after year? Even though it’s a huge honour, of course, my main goal with my music is not to get into lists or charts but to make people happy. I am grateful for all the support I get and to be able to play my music and do shows all over the world.

martin garrix indian tour

Besides being a DJ, do you have anything else on your radar that you wish to achieve? There’s a lot in music I would still like to do. For example, I would love to be able to produce all the music for a film.

What is the one lesson you learnt by being a part of the music industry? I have learnt that you always need to stay true to yourself and be kind to everyone you meet.

You are seen very often on Formula 1 tracks. Tell us about your love for it and the racers you cheer for. I love the atmosphere and adrenaline that Formula 1 brings with it. The dedication of the F1 fans is a beautiful sight to behold. I am cheering for my friends of course!

What are some of your other hobbies? I love sports such as skiing, snowboarding and windsurfing.

Name three artistes who you are following currently? Vluarr, Nuzb and Citadelle are artistes you should keep an eye on!

What other projects do you have in the pipeline? I have been working on music for a new series that I am very excited about. And in addition to that, loads of new Garrix music is in the works, as well!

₹1,000 onwards. March 3, 4 pm. At Bhartiya Mall of Bengaluru, Kannuru.

The 26-year-old said that he was at his creative best in 2022 after live shows resumed, and compiled several tracks and released Sentio, his latest, and only, full-length album. “During the pandemic , I didn’t feel like making any club music since there weren’t any shows. Garrix’s current playlist ranges from classical to rock and pop. “I love Glass Animals, for example, but also Coldplay – I even stayed longer in Mexico last year to watch their show. I’ve loved the track for a while and have been playing the remix in my sets for quite some time now. I’m super happy that we were able to officially release the remix.”

' src=

22.02.2024, New Delhi:  Moscow Tourism is thrilled to participate in the highly anticipated SATTE (South Asia’s Travel & Tourism Exchange) trade fair, held in Greater Noida, NCR, India from February 22-24. The delegation from Moscow is one of the largest at the event, featuring representatives from the Moscow City Tourism Committee, the Made in Moscow project team, and other key figures in the city’s tourism industry.

During the first day of the event, held on February 22, representatives from the Moscow City Tourism Committee took part in various business sessions and introduced the capital’s flagship projects. One of these projects, the Moscow Estates Festival, received significant attention during a discussion on cultural heritage. The festival, which gained popularity among foreign tourists last summer and this winter, offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of Moscow’s historical mansions through theatrical tours, master classes, and other unique events. This interactive approach to studying cultural heritage has proven especially appealing to children and young people, who appreciate the recreated atmosphere and the chance to take stunning photographs.

Another highlight of Moscow’s tourism scene is the Moscow Tea Time project. At the Moscow exhibition stand, guests had the opportunity to taste different tea blends and learn about the city’s tea traditions. Currently taking place in Moscow hotels and restaurants, this project offers visitors the chance to enjoy tea time sets featuring an array of jams and pastries between 16:00 and 19:00 daily.

According to Evgeny Kozlov, First Deputy Head of the Office of the Mayor and the Government of Moscow, as well as Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee, Moscow hosts over 350 cultural and entertainment events each day, catering to all audiences, including families with children. With its extensive range of gastronomic establishments, including restaurants serving Indian cuisine, and hotels developing tailored offers for Indian guests, Moscow ensures a convenient and enjoyable experience for Indian tourists. Additionally, tourist navigation in the city is comprehensively duplicated in foreign languages, further enhancing the comfort of the journey.

As part of the SATTE business program, the “Moscow +” project showcased interregional routes designed to meet the demands of foreign travelers, including those from India, who often seek to combine visits to several cities within one trip. As the country’s main transport hub, Moscow offers ready-made tourist packages that combine experiences in Moscow with other regions such as St. Petersburg, Tyumen, and the Moscow Region. Russian tour operators participating in the project discussed their package offers specifically tailored to the Indian tourist market.

At the exhibition, Moscow also presented a wide range of traditional souvenirs crafted by participants of the “Made in Moscow” project. Sixteen Moscow-based entrepreneurs brought goods in categories including grooming cosmetics, home fragrances, HoReCa (Hotel, Restaurant, Catering/Café) products, children’s items, accessories, as well as vegetarian and vegan products, which captured the interest of Indian consumers.

The partnership between Moscow and India is thriving, encompassing both classic tourist trips and business tourism. Business visits have become increasingly popular among Indian travelers to Moscow. The Moscow City Tourism Committee shared successful experiences in organizing international conferences like the Meet Global MICE Congress, demonstrating Moscow’s potential in the field of business tourism.

The internationally acclaimed Gzhel theatre, known for its unique fusion of folk and ballroom dance, as well as classical ballet, also showcased its talent at the exhibition. The theatre is renowned worldwide and serves as a symbol of Moscow’s rich cultural traditions.

Moscow remains a top tourist destination in Russia, with visitor numbers soaring year after year. In 2023, a record-breaking 24.5 million tourists from various regions and countries visited the capital, marking a 37% increase compared to the previous year.

The city boasts almost 2,000 hotels, ensuring that every tourist finds suitable accommodation options. Cultural enthusiasts will also be delighted, with thousands of cultural sites spread across Moscow, including theaters, museums, and libraries. Iconic historical and cultural sites, such as the renowned VDNKh and the recently reopened Northern and Southern River stations, have undergone renovations and reconstructions, becoming major tourist attractions in their own right.

With over 19,000 food industry establishments, ranging from world-famous restaurants to accessible Moscow gastroclusters, the capital offers a diverse and exciting culinary scene. Visitors can also enjoy breathtaking views of the city from various vantage points, including the Moscow cable car, skyscrapers, observation platforms, and view restaurants.

Moreover, Moscow caters to families and children, providing numerous family-friendly attractions throughout the year. Notable highlights include the Moscow Zoo, one of Europe’s largest oceanariums, and Russia’s first indoor amusement park, Dream Island. The city boasts over 400 museums and over 1,000 excursions, including tailored walk-quests for parents and children. In recognition of its dedication to providing exceptional experiences for young travelers, Moscow was named the Capital of Children’s Tourism in 2023 and the Youth Capital for 2024.

As the SATTE exhibition continues, Moscow Tourism is excited to further engage with Indian visitors and strengthen the already flourishing relationship between the two nations.

Moscow: City Sightseeing by Car/Bus

Visiting a new city is akin to going on a first date, it is something you will never forget. Many people imagine Moscow as just a bunch of sporadic landmarks: Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum and GUM. There is so much more to this wonderful city than that and even though we only have a few hours, we will do all we can to show you everything we know and love about our capital in one fell swoop. We will take you on a journey through the ages, from centuries ago, right up to the modern day, soaking in the sights of this vast and bustling metropolis. Bright, luxurious and both ancient and modern at the same time, Moscow invites you on a date you’ll never forget!

On our sightseeing bus tour of the city, you will see:

  • The wonderfully historic city centre and its unique museums, magnificent cathedrals, the exquisite Chambers of the Romanov Boyars and of course, the famous towering red brick walls of the Kremlin, The charming beauty of the Alexander Garden awaits the capital's guests - a lush green oasis in the midst of the glass and concrete clad metropolis, basking in the etherial aura emanating from the whitewashed stone walls of the restored Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the world- renowned fairytale onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral and other impressive monumental buildings such as the library built in Lenin's honour - the Russian State Library - and the State Duma.
  • The Lubyanka KGB headquarters is notorious to members of older generations and although nowadays, the face of the secret police has changed dramatically, the looming enigmatic building on the waterfront maintains its aura of mystery, shrouded in a variety of murky rumours and dark myths. Then, there’s another of Moscow's main attractions - the marvellous Bolshoi Theatre, yew simply cant leave Moscow without taking in its breathtaking architecture. Engrained in the fabric of Russia's cultural heritage, virtuoso performers such as prima ballerina Galina Ulanova, opera singer Feodor Chaliapin and pianist, composer and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff once stood centre stage of this vaunted institution.
  • The memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill was constructed in the glory and honour of our heroes who defended our nation in the many crucial battles of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This is a place that embodies a particularly acute and inextricable link between older ancf younger generations. Moving on to the Moscow International Business Centre, not dubbed ‘Moscow City' for nothing, a true glimpse of the future in the present. This incredible, rather jaw-dropping project in the capital has shown that Moscow has come to accept the age of the skyscraper. Finally, the stunning views from the observation deck at Sparrow Hills will leave professional and amateur photographers alike itching to capture them. How could one resist?
