We tested the Obaby Stamford Luxe Sleigh Cot bed to see how it fared against other similar products and whether it was worth its price tag.   If space is an issue, this might not be the product for you. But that aside, this roomy cot bed has a standout sleigh design that will give your nursery a classic, traditional aesthetic. There are loads of great extras too, including a gigantic storage drawer, teething rail and adjustable heights, meaning that it grows with your child up to the age of four and even beyond. 

Our tester, Grace, would definitely recommend it to friends as a good buy. "A best buy product should be something that ticks all possible boxes: design, aesthetics, usability, etc, and I think this does," she said. 

If you're looking for the best cotbed for your baby or toddler, the Obaby Stamford Luxe Sleigh Cotbed is a worthy contender. "I can't fault it, and my daughter has transitioned into it without a fuss," adds Grace.

For this review, Goodto.com asked Grace Holliday to try out the Obaby Stamford Cot bed for a minimum of two weeks with her baby, who was 11 months old at the time. The standout feature that impressed her was its design and size. "It looks gorgeous and is a generous size for my baby to roll around in without bumping into the sides," Grace says. 

Our tester liked that the Obaby Stamford had several height settings and could be adapted as your baby grows up.

"Because our daughter was already ten months old at the time of testing, we put the base height on the lowest level as soon as it arrived," Grace told us. "However, there are two other higher levels too, so it's ideal if your baby is younger and not yet rolling or pulling themselves up." In fact, Obaby has designed this cot bed so that it lasts from birth to age four. Even after that, it can be used as a day bed for quick naps or for reading bedtime stories on, so there's lots of scope for it staying in the family for years to come. 

Grace thinks this cot bed is worth its moderate-to-premium price tag. It's currently on sale on Amazon with 20% off, making it just over £280 , but its RRP is over £300. "For the amount you're paying, you want something that will grow with your baby, not just in terms of overall size, but in terms of adjustability," Grace said. "This comes with the additional pieces to transform it from a cot bed with bars to a toddler bed with only some, or no, bars, at no extra cost. As a result, it is suitable for use up to four years old. For it to justify its premium price point however, you also want additional features, and I think the teething rail and huge double drawers underneath satisfy that requirement."

"We knew the Obaby Stamford Luxe Sleigh Cot Bed was going to be generously sized by looking at the measurements online before its arrival, but we were still surprised to see it arrived in three separate, and very large, boxes," admitted Grace. 

Despite its bulky size, Grace found the cot bed easy to assemble. "All the pieces were well packaged, with no damage or dents. It took us about ten minutes to unpack everything, and take all the empty boxes outside," she said. 

"It only took 20-30 minutes to put together, as each side piece and base can be reassembled. There were no slats to put into place ourselves. Everything we needed, aside from a screwdriver, was in the box, including an Allen key. The drawer was also easy to put together."

As well as its size, our tester was impressed with the look and style of the Obaby Stamford. "We slid it into one corner of the nursery, and it blended in to the rest of our white furniture perfectly," she said. "The curved side panels, which give it its 'sleigh' design, add an extra little something to its appearance without being flashy. We pushed the curved top bar against the wall and had the flat top bar facing out into the room."

Grace liked the subtle teething rail - essential when little ones start gnawing on everything in sight. "On this top bar comes a plastic rail, which was already attached, and is especially made to be safe for baby or child to chew on while they're teething. This means that their teeth are protected, and the wood of the cot is protected too!" 

Those worried about how babies might react to its large size shouldn't worry says Grace. "She was fine transitioning from a 120/60cm cot to a 140/70cm cot, and the extra size wasn't intimidating to her."

• Tested how easy the cotbed was to assemble.
• Used the cotbed for two weeks, for both naps and night-times.
• Tested out the different features to see which were genuinely useful and which were gimmicks. 

While this cotbed is on the large size, making it not particularly well suited for smaller spaces, it does come with a significant amount of integrated storage. 

"One of my favourite things about the cot is actually the drawer underneath. Not only does it have a huge 77L capacity, split in two with a divider, it is really smooth to pull out and put back," said Grace. 

"With our previous cot, the drawer underneath was really clunky and difficult to open, which meant we avoided using it. With the Stamford, I was really pleased that it was well-made enough that I could actively use it for sheets, sleeping bags and other items." It's worth noting that, while you get everything you need with this cot, you don't need it all at the same time and there will be parts that you'll have to store away.  

"Because it goes up to four years, there are some additional pieces you'll need to have space to store away for use down the line. When she outgrows it, we plan to use it as a day bed for her to play on in the other corner of her room," added Grace. 

Grace thought that the Obaby Stamford Luxe Sleigh Cotbed would suit 'someone who is looking for a long-lasting cotbed that doesn't scrimp on appearance or bonus features.'

Due to its relatively large size, it would also be better for someone who has a larger nursery and plenty of space. Grace's baby certainly seemed to enjoy the extra space it afforded and slept fantastically in it.

OBaby travel cot review

Travel cots can be so invaluable when you have little ones. We tend to holiday in the UK and although a lot of places do provide cots, I always prefer to take my own – then I know it’s clean, I know the mattress is safe and I know that Max will sleep in it.

Kiddicare recently created a sleep timeline  which has a whole heap of handy advice about different sleep options for babies from 0-5, covering everything from swaddling and moses baskets to grobags and starter beds. As part of this, Kiddicare sent us a travel cot, so we could take a closer look and see just what these have to offer.

 The first thing I noticed was just how compact it is. Having previously had a pop up travel cot, which while convenient is very bulky, the size of this one surprised me. On opening the bag, I found the cot itself, plus a basinette section, instructions and the mattress. 

Putting the cot up was simple, and I didn’t require the instructions. Just push the base down towards the floor and then lock the sides into place by pulling them upwards. Drop the mattress into place and you’re all set!

It’s really spacious. Max is an average sized one year old, and he has acres of room – this travel cot would easily last until he no longer needs a cot. It would even be big enough to use as a playpen for a smaller tot. Max was happy to lie in the cot in his sleeping bag, and has had a few afternoon naps in there. For smaller babies, there is a basinette section included, which is really simple to use, just slotting over the top of the travel cot frame.

Folding the cot was my biggest worry – I know so many people who have struggles with travel cots in the past, and have heard stories about being stuck at holiday parks being unable to fold the cot and put it in the car – one friend even left theirs behind after several hours of fighting with it, and a near divorce with her husband. So I approached folding time with a bit of trepidation – but I needn’t have worried. To fold, you simply remove the mattress, then grab the D ring and pull upwards. This collapses the base. You then locate the buttons in the centre of the side rails, press these in and the sides will fold in on themselves. Push it all together, wrap the mattress around the cot and secure it with the velcro tabs. You can then just slide it into the travel bag.

I love the OBaby travel cot, and we will most definitely be using it for our holiday to Wales in September. It won’t take up much room in the car, it’s easy to set up and pack away and it’s comfortable for Max.

Please check the size chart has printed out to the correct size by measuring the scale at the bottom of the chart, this must measure 10cm otherwise the indicated size may not be accurate.

Please fold the paper along the dotted line and place the chart on a hard surface against an immovable vertical surface such as a skirting board to help gain an accurate measure.

Place the left foot on the chart and record the length of the foot (e.g. 2¼) repeat for the right foot (e.g. 2½).

Based on these results a size 3 would be selected. As most people's feet are not the same size the size of shoe is determined by the largest foot.

Children will also need some growing room so if the fitting indicates either foot is longer than the full size it may be beneficial to order the next size up.

Obaby Stamford Cot Bed review

This beautifully crafted sleigh cot bed is part of the Obaby Stamford range. It is constructed from solid wood and can be converted easily from a cot into a toddler bed. By removing one or both of the sides it can also be transformed into a daybed or sofa. The cot has a matching drawer underneath, a three-position adjustable mattress base which allows you to lower the height of the mattress as your baby learns to sit or stand and teething rails which protect your baby's gums while teething.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Michelle:  The best thing about this cot bed is the quality of the materials and the simple yet smart design. However, due to the quality of materials, it is very heavy and therefore was too difficult to assemble alone (especially when having to look after a baby!). The screws/fittings came in separated packets which were helpful when assembling and the instructions seemed relatively clear.

Annika:  The cot is incredibly stylish and I am very happy with it. It was relatively easy to put together and once it is up, it is sturdy and therefore a very safe product to use. I also liked the fact that it can be coordinated with lots of different items and that there is a wide range of colours available.

Gemma: We love this. It’s a great product and I would definitely recommend it. It is easy to use with clear and concise instructions. It is both fabulous and stylish but also functional. From compact cot to cot bed! Love the colour ranges of the remaining nursery set, including the mix and match.

How did this product make your life easier?

Talisa:  The Stamford cot bed makes my life easier as it is beautiful and simply makes my nursery. The white colour looks so fresh. It’s a solid cot and my baby is so comfortable in it. The drawer underneath is a godsend as I have put extra sheets and blankets in there for when my baby makes a mess.

Tonileigh:  This product makes life easier because it has different heights meaning the product grows alongside your child. The cot has a handy drawer at the bottom which is helpful.

Shannon:  I love the drawer underneath this cot bed. It makes storing blankets and sheets for my baby a lot easier as they are close to hand. Perfect for a baby that suffers from reflux and can sometimes need sheets changing at 2 AM.

Would you choose this product to win?

Jemma:  This is a very stylish cot bed with lots of options to make it useful for a long time. It is a reasonable price for a solid piece of furniture and I do think it should win. There are lots of colour options and I liked that there are coordinating pieces of furniture available. It was easy to put together and to adjust the height.

Annika:  I would choose this product for its attractive design and value for money, given the longevity of the product (as it can be used as a cot bed and changed to a toddler bed). The product looks expensive and can be coordinated with lots of different items depending on your individual needs.

Talisa:  Yes I would choose this product over the other cot beds. It is expensive but definitely worth it. It is solid, safe and will last until my child is four, making it good value for money. It is a beautiful looking cot and with 3 adjustable levels so you don’t feel like your breaking your back to get baby in and out of it.

What changes would you make to this product?

Gemma:  Value for money. I think it’s expensive for the cot bed. The brochure shows a beautiful set which I’d love to buy but I cannot justify the price. I couldn’t fault the design or the functionality of the cot and it arrived perfectly packaged and padded too. It is a great product but too expensive for me.

Tonileigh:  I don't think I would change anything about the design of this product. I think it is lovely and stylish. I love the shape, the style and range of colours. It's great that it grows with the child and turns into a toddler bed. However, I would change the price. If it was £200 I would be more likely to consider it.

Shannon:  I would like to see some screw covers for this product. I think it really lets the aesthetic of the cot bed down when you can see the dark dowel holes and screws all over the ends. A couple of safe and cheap plastic covers would make this look a lot better. It is also quite difficult to change the mattress positions so that could be made easier.

The Obaby Stamford furniture range offers families the perfect combination of style, quality and practicality. For those who require the features of a full-size cot but have limited space, the Stamford Space Saver cot is the perfect solution.

Needing less space than the Stamford Mini cot bed, the Space Saver cot features the same elegant sleigh design as the rest of the collection, teething rails to protect your little ones delicate first teeth and a three-position adjustable mattress base. The top position allows your newborn to be put down and taken out of the cot easily without unnecessary bending, then as your child grows, learning to sit and stand, the base can be lowered by a further two positions providing extra security and reassurance all the way up to approximately 18 months old. Requires an Obaby 100 x 50cm mattress.

The included matching under drawer has a generous 35L capacity offering parent's that much needed extra storage space for their little one's belongings. Durable wheels ensure that the drawer opens and closes smoothly on any floor surface and recessed handles make sure that there are no protruding handles to catch.

The included 100 x 50cm Obaby sprung mattress, consisting of a Bonnel spring unit encased in high-grade nursery foam, ensures extra comfort for baby and makes it the ideal option for keeping them cosy at bedtime. The polypropylene cover features a luxurious box top quilted design, is splash resistant, fully breathable, removable and washable at 60ºC and features antibacterial properties so that it can be easily kept fresh and clean for your child's naptime.

All Obaby mattresses are designed and manufactured to comply with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 and UK Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations 1988/1989, 1993 and 2010. Crib, cot and cot bed mattresses are tested to BS 7177:2008+A1:2011 and BS EN16890:2017.

A guide to container sizes- tree sizes for instant impact.

Box trees are a great way to create an instant effect for landscape projects. While their long term benefit is gradually lost over time (typically trees growing from small containers catch up in the long run) the impact in the first 3-5 years is dramatic, giving an immediate presence and maturity to a newly installed landscape.

Here is a breakdown of common tree sizes:

5 Gallon: Most trees are installed in larger sizes, some small trees (including multi-stem trees) and specimen trees like Japanese Maple are often found in this size. Height is typically 2-5'.

15 Gallon: One of the most common tree sizes installed, this size balances the desire for a tree that may be 6-12' in height, depending on species, with budget considerations (box trees because they have spent anywhere from 1-5 additional years in the nursery are much more expensive). Callipers (diameter of the tree trunk) on 15 gallons are typically .5" to 1.0" depending on variety.

24" Box : Smallest common box size (the box size represents a 2' x 2' x 2' box), the 24" box is more mature than 15 gallons with heights of 8-15' and callipers of 1"-2.5" depending on species.

48" Box : Typically fairly mature trees with 3-7 years of growth at the nursery. Heights vary 10-30', costs for these trees can be up to several thousand dollars.

Large Boxes 60" and up : These are for almost full grown specimens of smaller trees, and very well established specimens of larger trees. Of course trees can be used that are larger than standard container sizes. Full size mature trees (full grown Oaks and others) are moved with giant hydraulic spades, cranes, and trucks by specialty tree moving companies.
