  • Goofs Riker and his team transport directly aboard the Hathaway, which is supposedly without power. There could be breathable air, but a ship abandoned without life support would be too cold for them to board without freezing. Remote access can certainly take place and obviously there is power or there would have been no lights when they beamed over. Obviously they would have activated life support ahead of time.

FIRST LOOK: USS Hathaway for Attack Wing Wave 20

star trek hathaway

NECA/WizKids will release Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 20 in November, and StarTrek.com has an exclusive First Look at the ships in the upcoming expansion packs, starting with the U.S.S. Hathaway. The U.S.S. Hathaway is a Federation Constellation Class Ship launched from the Copernicus Shipyards on Luna and equipped with Avidyne impulse engines. The Hathaway was one of the first ships to be included in a battle simulation exercise named “Operation Lovely Angel.” As part of this simulation, the Hathaway was stripped down and towed to the Braslota system. Once at Braslota II, William T. Riker and his away team managed to reactivate the ship and place it in sufficient condition for simulated combat in only 48 hours.

star trek hathaway

The U.S.S. Hathaway gains one Shield, one Tech Upgrade slot and one extra Crew slot over the generic constellation class ship. These extra upgrade slots will allow you to “reactivate” the Hathaway just like Riker and his away team. The Hathaway can also perform a second action from your Action Bar as a free action, proving that this old ship still has it where it counts. As Captain of the U.S.S. Hathaway, William T. Riker is eager to prove himself in this battle simulation. When attacking a ship with a larger Hull, you gain +1 attack die. When defending against a ship with a larger hull, you roll +1 defense die. Riker is not afraid to take on the bigger, more powerful ships and, if given the chance, he might just surprise you. Proving that bigger doesn’t mean better, William Riker has learned how to improvise, which is also the Elite Talent on this ship. Improvise allows you to disable this card and any number of other Upgrades in order to re-roll the same number of attack or defense dice.

star trek hathaway

When Riker needed to get the U.S.S. Hathaway ready for Operation Lovely Angel, he assembled an away team of trusted crewmembers to get the job done quickly. The first member of the away team is Wesley Crusher. Wesley Crusher is a valuable member of Riker’s away team because he is always prepared with a number of valuable options that he can employ at a moment's notice. At the start of the game, place 3 Federation Tech Upgrades, each 4 SP or less, face down under this card. You may discard Wesley Crusher to flip up one of those upgrades and deploy it to your ship, even if it exceeds your ship’s restrictions. The second crewmember in Riker’s away team is Geordi La Forge. Wesley and Geordi are the engineering dream team since they work so well together. Geordi La Forge makes all of your Tech Upgrades cost -1 SP. In addition, when you defend, you may disable Geordi La Forge to roll 1 additional defense die for each Tech Upgrade deployed to your ship (+2 max). Last, but not least, Worf rounds out the third slot in Riker’s away team. Worf adds his tactical knowledge to the away team, helping to ensure victory for all. When defending, you may disable Worf to make the attacking ship roll 1 fewer attack die and prevent them from spending Battle Stations or Target Lock Tokens. Finally, your ship may roll its full defense dice in spite of the presence of any Scan Tokens beside the attacking ship.

star trek hathaway

Once the U.S.S. Hathaway had a crew, it was time to make sure she was battle-ready. Aside from his tactical duties, Worf was also Weapons Officer, making sure the Hathaway would be ready for battle with a full compliment of Photon Torpedoes. The Hathaway is equipped with Photon Torpedoes Weapon Upgrades, using the new Time Token Mechanic. Instead of disabling, after the weapon fires, place three Time Tokens on the weapon card. During the end phase, one Time Token is removed. The weapon cannot fire again until all Time Tokens are removed from the weapon card. Wesley and Geordi have both been very busy in engineering making sure the Hathaway will survive in combat, simulated or not. Navigational Station is a Tech Upgrade that allows you to perform an Evade Action as a free action after you perform a green maneuver. Warp Jump is also a Tech Upgrade that allows you to remove your ship from the play area at the start of the Combat Phase before any attacks have been made. At the end of the Combat Phase your ship is placed anywhere in the play area, but not within Range 1-3 of any other ship. With his away team at his side, Riker is ready to take on any challenge, even the Enterprise herself. Put yourself in the Captain’s chair with this exciting new expansion pack that includes the first appearance of fan-favorite Wesley Crusher.

  • View history

The USS Hathaway (NCC-2593) was a Constellation -class exploration cruiser on active Starfleet duty in the 23rd and 24th centuries. Though its keel had been laid down as early as 2276 ( TOS novel: Honor Blade ), it wasn't launched until 2285 from Luna 's Copernicus Ship Yards .

Hathway' s first commanding officer was Paul Freeman , with Saavik serving as first officer . ( Orion Press : Chekov's Enterprise , " Freefall ")

In 2288 , the Hathaway rescued victims of the T'crala disaster. ( Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era )

Hathaway was originally assigned to the Seventh Fleet until at least the 2290s . Sal Johnson, son of Commodore Barry Johnson , was a Hathaway officer in the early 2290s. ( Star Trek: Avenger : "Aftermath")

Along with other ships of the Sixth Fleet , Hathaway was tasked with the exploration of the Beta Quadrant on a seven-year mission at the beginning of 2296 . ( Orion Press : "New Orders")

The Hathaway was decommissioned and abandoned in the Braslota system by 2364 , when it was reactivated for war games with the USS Enterprise -D , and later played a role in the Klingon Civil War . ( TNG : " Peak Performance ", " Redemption, Part II ")

USS Hathaway

Third in the lineage of vessels to bear the name, the USS Hathaway NCC-92904 ( Sagan -class ) is a highly versatile, state-of-the-art exploration vessel widely considered to be one of the most advanced starships in the service of the Federation. The immediate successor to the Cheyenne -class USS Hathaway lost during the Dominion War of the 2370's, the current iteration is fresh out of the shipyards at Starbase Bravo following her role in the Deneb conflict and is currently under the command of Captain Romaes Anjin .

Looking to make a name for themselves in the annals of history, the crew are a mixture of fresh-faced youngsters excelling in their fields of study, and wily veterans looking for an opportunity to cement their legacies. With the ship currently operating out of Deep Space 17 in the Typhon Frontier , she is tasked with exploring an area of space ripe for scientific exploration and missions of a first-contact nature.

Into the Expanse

2401 - into the expanse.

With her construction and subsequent shakedown cruise complete, a skeleton crew transferred Hathaway from Starbase Bravo to Deep Space 17 , where a new commanding officer was appointed by CAPT Romaes Anjin , TFXO for TF17. After a hiatus which saw him take leave on multiple worlds, a chance encounter saw the Tellarite, Vasoch Gor , re-evaluate his choice to leave Starfleet. Negotiations with Romaes saw the man rewarded for his years of dedication and experience with his first permanent command aboard Hathaway .

However, a number of weeks into this new assignment, conflict broke out in the Deneb Sector , and Hathaway participated in five different counterstrikes on enemy forces throughout the region. Her actions threatened to come back to haunt her, however, when lingering engine trouble resulted in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a Dominion attack wing. Having suffered through four attacks, Captain Gor revealed the 'damage' sustained by the ship was simply a plot to lull in the Jem'Hadar and allow Hathaway' s Borg advanced sensors to get incredibly up-to-date readings of the enemy ships. The timely appearance of the Inquiry-class USS Nogura from TG-514 deterred the attack wing and provided respite for the Hathaway crew. Under Nogura’s careful watch, and with additional personnel loaned to them, repairs began in earnest.

Whilst Hathaway underwent repairs, Captain Keziah Nazir was transported aboard from the Nogura , and immediately stirred up trouble. Presenting orders from SFC, Nazir relieved Captain Gor of his duties and assumed command of Hathaway , with the Tellarite immediately beaming to the Nogura for reassignment.

Some months later, and after being heavily involved in the Deneb conflict with the Dominion and Breen alliance, Captain Romaes Anjin assumed command during her repair schedule. Upon completion, the ship was ordered back to the Deneb sector.

Like many starships in the Federation fleet, the Hathaway name can be traced back to Earth's distant past, where it is believed she is named after Anne Hathaway, the wife of one of England's finest playwrights, William Shakespeare. Hathaway was born in 1556 and died in 1623. The Hathaway name first appears in the Starfleet archive with the construction of the Constellation-class starship of the same name. Perhaps most interestingly is the knowledge that all starships to carry the name Hathaway have had four nacelles.

With 24 decks, the ship has hundreds of rooms and locations that serve a variety of purposes for the crew. Some of the more notable locations include:

star trek hathaway

A reflection of the time period she was created, the Sagan -class polished steel and cool metal fixtures of the bridge aesthetics bring back memories of years gone by, her design blending modern technological advancements with the nostalgia of eras long gone. It is a functional, yet aesthetically pleasing facility designed in a similar vein to the rest of the ship. Her greatest feature is a wide-angled window which fills the forward bulkhead. This window has holographic projectors built into the rim, giving it the ability to function as a more traditional viewscreen. It can also be used as an emergency evacuation hatch, with forcefields being lowered until replaced by a large, external bulkhead.

Dominating the heart of the command center, three command chairs made of red leather sit atop the central platform, colloquially known as the 'Command Deck', surrounded by rails and steps to the lower levels of the bridge. As is tradition, the center seat and its controls are reserved for the commanding officer, or any directly appointed officer in command during his absence. To his right, the executive officer and, to his left, a third seat is generally reserved for the use of the ship's Counsellor, Chief Medical Officer or any official or dignitary the Captain sees fit. All three of the chairs have built-in controls on the armrests, enabling the occupying officers to conduct their duties with unprecedented access to a wide variety of ship systems.

star trek hathaway

At the foot of the stairs directly ahead (or to the side) of the command deck, the 'Flight Deck' consists of two angled consoles serving as duty stations for operations (port) and flight operations (starboard). A few feet from each, two stand-alone consoles provide auxiliary station access for any purpose required (such as communications, environmental control, mission operations etc). Ascending the stairs on either side of the command deck, the port side bulkhead is home to three large stations dedicated to tactical operations, providing access to the ship's defensive and offensive systems, whilst the starboard bulkhead is dedicated to the various science departments on the ship.

star trek hathaway

Aft of the bridge, there are two additional consoles behind the command area designated for medical use (port) and engineering (starboard), allowing the engineer on duty access to the same engineering systems as in main engineering itself, including access to environmental controls, propulsion systems and the warp core. Central to the aft bulkhead, open access is granted to the observation lounge, which is sealable by emergency bulkheads and forcefields.

star trek hathaway

Observation Lounge

A beautifully designed room, the observation lounge matches the aesthetic of the rest of the ship, with polished alloys and cool metals as the material of choice during construction. The room is dominated by a large table with holographic controls which is particularly useful for briefings and has seating for up to 10 officers. The Captain traditionally sits closest to the wall-mounted display on the starboard bulkhead. There are several shelves with ornaments and models of previous ships called Hathaway , as well as the original Constellation -class ship plaque. An additional door provides access from the port bulkhead.

The observation lounge operates an open-door policy and, in the absence of a more traditional ready room attached to the bridge, the Captain often uses the observation lounge as a workspace so that they do not have to return to their quarters.

Starlight Lounge

star trek hathaway

Perhaps the most spacious of all recreational facilities aboard Hathaway, the Starlight Lounge is built across two levels and is the most spacious facility on the ship. With dozens of seating areas across both levels, with varying degrees of comfort and privacy, the room is a constant hive of activity for anyone and everyone aboard the ship. People come to work in a relaxed, but active environment, or they may come to sit and read while people mill about and conduct their business. Food is obtained from several replicators around the room, while bar snacks and beverages are available at the bar which is manned around the clock. The room's most exquisite feature is the large, floor-to-ceiling aquarium tank which is maintained by the science division and houses some thirty different species of marine life.

Auxiliary Craft

  • Main Article: Auxiliary craft deployment aboard Hathaway

As a Sagan-class starship with four shuttlebays of varying size, Hathaway is capable of housing a large contingent of auxiliary craft. The deployment and organisation of such craft has always been at the discretion of the commanding officer, and as such, Captain Gor has used Hathaway's mission profile to reduce the number of personnel shuttles and runabouts to make room for a squadron of Valkyrie-class Starfighters in the lower shuttlebays. Codenamed the Hellhounds , this small squadron is capable of conducting a range of operations in support of Hathaway's main mission objectives.

A new “ Star Trek ” film is in the works at Paramount with “Andor’s” Toby Haynes on board to direct and Seth Grahame-Smith penning the script, Variety has confirmed.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the upcoming feature will be an origin story that is set decades before 2009’s “Star Trek,” as well as an expansion of the “Star Trek” universe. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is producing.

A fourth “Star Trek” movie starring Chris Pine was first announced in July of 2016, with Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg expected to return. Chris Hemsworth, who appeared in the 2009 original, was set to return to the space saga as George Kirk, the father of Captain James T. Kirk (Pine). According to Paramount at the time, “Star Trek 4” would see Pine’s Captain Kirk cross paths with his father, who was “a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born.”

During a Paramount Global investors day presentation in February of 2022, Abrams announced that a new “Star Trek” movie would begin shooting by the end of that year with the Pine-led crew. Pine and his co-stars reportedly had no idea Paramount was moving forward with another “Star Trek” film, which was eventually removed from the studio’s film slate in September of that year.

Haynes recently directed six episodes of the “Star Wars” series “Andor,” starring Diego Luna as the titular role. He also helmed the “Star Trek”-inspired episode of “Black Mirror,” titled “USS Callister.” Haynes is repped by WME and attorney Peter Nelson.

Grahame-Smith is best known as the author of the best-selling novels “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” He also wrote and produced 2017’s “The Lego Batman Movie.” Grahame-Smith is repped by WME and attorneys PJ Shapiro and Wendy Kirk.

Deadline was first to report the “Star Trek” news.

Recap / Star Trek: The Next Generation S2E21 "Peak Performance"

Original air date: July 10, 1989

The Enterprise has agreed to take part in a training exercise using the run-down USS Hathaway as its opponent. Joining the crew to oversee the exercise is a supposed strategic mastermind named Kolrami (Roy Brocksmith). Worf calls that reputation into question pretty fast, pointing out that because Kolrami’s race is seen as a race of brilliant strategists, no one ever dares fight them, which means they might be terrible at it for all anyone knows. Kolrami outlines the plan: Riker will take command of the Hathaway , and he will have forty-eight hours to prepare it before the exercise begins. Each ship’s weapons systems will be temporarily disconnected and replaced with harmless lasers, which the computers will read as damage, shutting down systems that would be affected by a real attack. Picard and Riker both state that they have reservations about the exercise, since Starfleet is meant to explore, not fight, but they concede that with the Borg threat hanging over them it is wise to have options.

Picard gives Riker the freedom to choose anyone for his crew save for Lieutenant Commander Data, and he chooses, among others, Worf, Geordi, and Wesley. Kolrami is perpetually condescending toward Riker, which irritates the other bridge crew. Riker decides to earn Kolrami's respect by challenging him to a game of Strategema, of which Kolrami is a 3rd degree grandmaster. The game involves controlling dots on a grid via sensors on your fingers in an effort to capture the entire board. Riker does not expect to win and simply wants a challenge, but Kolrami crushes him embarrassingly.

In preparation for the exercise, Riker and his team beam over to the Hathaway and begin fixing her up, but they don’t have much to work with. Geordi looks over the engines and deems the ship incapable of warp drive, since even if he got it running, he doesn’t have any antimatter to fuel it with. Wesley is dejected and believes they're simply being set up to fail, but Riker insists that the test is about being innovative. Suddenly Wesley says he needs to return to the Enterprise , because he left an experiment running and needs to shut it down. Picard allows it, on the condition that he be escorted and not allowed to do anything but shut down the experiment. Wesley announces that his experiment is busted and needs to be transported outside of the ship to dispose of it safely. Geordi is surprised to see the experiment materialize right in the Hathaway 's engine room. With that, the Hathaway will have warp drive after all... for two seconds, at warp 1. It’s not much, but Riker thinks it may be useful as a surprise tactic.

Pulaski has decided that Kolrami needs to be brought down a peg and twists Data's arm into challenging him at Strategema. The crew eagerly gather to watch their comrade best the cocky tactical expert, but it takes Kolrami only a little while longer to defeat Data than it did Riker. The crew, and Data himself, are stunned. The android reasons that if a humanoid could defeat his computer brain, then he must be a malfunctioning. He withdraws from bridge duty until he can locate the error. Even after Troi and Pulaski assure him that he's fine, he remains absent from duty.

Kolrami continues talking smack about Riker, until Picard pulls him aside and asks what his problem is. Kolrami says that Riker could never be a good leader because he doesn’t take things seriously. Picard insists that Riker’s jovial attitude is how he gains loyalty from his men. Picard then confronts Data and tells him that yes, he might make mistakes, and even if he doesn’t, he might still lose, but this doesn’t mean he’s malfunctioning. It's just a part of life. Data takes his words to heart and returns to his post.

The battle begins. Worf uses his security knowledge of the Enterprise 's computer to hack into it and make it see a Romulan warbird. As Picard struggles to address the threat, the Hathaway attacks. Picard orders a counterattack while Riker prepares to make his warp jump. But at that moment, a Ferengi ship appears, and this one isn’t Worf’s doing. With weapons offline, both ships are at the Ferengi’s mercy. Kolrami immediately tells Picard to abandon the Hathaway to save the majority of the crew, but Picard is unwilling to do so. He hails the Ferengi, who want to know why two Federation ships were fighting each other. They assume the Hathaway has something valuable aboard.

Picard and Riker cook up a plan and put it into action. Picard announces that he'll destroy the Hathaway rather than let it fall into enemy hands. The Enterprise fires a proton torpedo at the Hathaway , which uses its warp drive at just the right time to make it look like it was destroyed. Next, Worf fools the Ferengi’s sensors into seeing another fake ship. The Ferengis flee, seeing no further profit in fighting. Humiliated to have been proven wrong, Kolrami is forced to concede that Riker did admirably well and promises to write a glowing report.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Achilles in His Tent : Dr. Pulaski references this trope by name when she tries to talk Data out of his Heroic BSoD .
  • Armchair Military : Kolrami is a master of strategy, at least when it comes to theory and games. When he's put into an actual battle, his first impulse is to cut and run. Only Picard, the seasoned captain, has the bravery and ingenuity to come up with a successful gambit.
  • Attack Pattern Alpha : The Kumeh and Talupian maneuvers are used during the simulated battle.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness : Kolrami is a Fat Bastard whose face appears to be melting off. He's not sympathetic.
  • Break the Haughty : Kolrami is an extremely smug, arrogant militant strategist and master of Stratagema who proclaims nobody can beat him at the game, and also publicly dismisses Riker as geared to lose the exercise just based on reading his service record. He's first made to eat humble pie when Riker and his Hathaway crew perform much more admirably than he expected and score the first few points, on top of being able to conceive warp drive against Kolrami's expectations and help the Enterprise defeat the Ferengi ship. He's then humiliated even further when Data is able to best him at Stratagema just by creating a scenario where Kolrami can never win and he storms off in anger.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer : Granted, we never learn enough about Zakdorn culture to say whether or not Kolrami's behavior is normal for his species, but by Human standards he's a real oddball; the only other Zakdorn ever seen (in Unification ) is less arrogant/objectionable and more just self-confident.
  • Character Development : Pulaski started the season treating Data with distaste and accusing him of being a walking computer. By this point, she's fully on Data's side and even believes that his withdrawal from duty is about a bruised ego, something she would have thought to be impossible at the start of the season.
  • Character Shilling : Picard goes on in his episode about how Riker is the best officer he's ever worked with.
  • Chekhov's Skill : Riker's team aboard the Hathaway devised a strategy to distract the Enterprise's sensors via a remote hack to give them an opening for a simulated attack. This same method is used against the Ferengi ship, in accordance with a carefully timed Hyperspeed Escape , to make the Ferengi think the Enterprise cruelly destroyed their own ship and that The Cavalry was coming.
  • The crew raise several objections to the whole idea that don't make sense in-character.
  • Worf states that the training exercise is useless because a victory with no chance of death would have no honor. But we've already seen that he trains his fighting chops in his holodeck "calisthenics" programs. He's correct, though, that good in simulations is not good in real life.
  • Continuity Nod : The Ferengi are defeated in part by using warp drive to confuse them about how many ships they see, like in the Battle of Maxia .
  • Crying Wolf : Riker gets Worf to use the Enterprise ’s sensor codes to feed them a fake image of a decloaking Romulan ship, startling Picard into trying to cancel the exercise and letting the Hathaway get some shots in. Picard orders the codes changed, only for a Ferengi ship to appear. He wonders how Worf managed to circumvent the changed codes but resolves not to fall for it this time— and it turns out to be a real Ferengi ship that attacks them.
  • Kolrami whups Riker at Stratagema. Then again, Riker has no delusions of winning.
  • Kolrami then deals one against Data, triggering his Heroic BSoD .
  • Defied the third time when Data stalls, creating an Endless Game until Kolrami pulls a Rage Quit .
  • David Versus Goliath : The Hathaway vs the Enterprise . Discussed by Riker and Kolrami. Riker: What's the Zakdornian word for "mismatch"? Kolrami: Challenge! We do not whine about the inequities of life, and how you perform in a mismatch is precisely what is of interest to Starfleet. After all, when one is in the superior position, one is expected to win.
  • Death Glare : Picard has this look on his face whenever Kolrami annoys him, which is often .
  • Dirty Coward : It's implied that Kolrami's insistence on fleeing to save the bulk of Picard's crew is largely influenced by Kolrami being part of the crew to be saved.
  • Do Well, But Not Perfect : Data's winning solution for Stratagema: ignore openings that might lead to a win (but which are, in fact, ploys by Kolrami to defeat him) and consistently play for the tie. His opponent cannot understand why Data isn't falling for his gambits and eventually Rage Quits .
  • Everyone treats combat training as a foreign and unnecessary concept, with Picard stating that Starfleet is not a military organization. While the show has already referenced conflicts with other nations in the past, Starfleet's role in fighting wars becomes a more overt part of the plot in later seasons. In fact, according to " The Wounded ," two seasons later, the Federation is currently at war with the Cardassians during this very episode!
  • This was the franchise's last attempt to depict the Ferengi as a serious military threat, as evidenced by their disabling the Enterprise (albeit while the ship's weapons are locked into simulation mode) and Bractor speaking disdainfully of the Federation's strength of character. Starting with the following season, the Ferengi are depicted as more sneaky and underhanded than actually being dangerous in their own right.
  • Endless Game : Data can keep Kolrami playing Stratagema forever by continually playing for a stalemate instead of playing to win.
  • Entertainingly Wrong : Played more dramatically than normal. The Ferengi see the Federation flagship paying close attention to the Hathaway and assume it is a Super Prototype . The Hathaway is really more The Alleged Car being utilized to exercise creative combat thinking against a superior foe, but to keep the Ferengi distracted they play along with the assumption.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero : Discussed. While talking about Zakdorn history, it's noted that they've been renowned for their strategic prowess for centuries, which is why the Federation is seeking their advice now. However, they've never once had to prove their skills in battle. Worf believes that makes the reputation worthless. When an actual conflict occurs, Kolrami's immediate and only strategic advice is to retreat and abandon the Hathaway , suggesting Worf is right to be wary.
  • Fictional Sport : Stratagema provides an example of TNG's typically incomprehensible games.
  • The purpose of the exercise is to plan for an attack by the Borg by acknowledging how outmatched Starfleet would be. It sets up the idea of Riker in command being forced to come up with innovative tactics against an overwhelmingly powerful enemy, which he indeed goes on to do when the Borg actually do invade.
  • In the exercise, Riker goes up against Picard, with Picard having clear advantages in strength, firepower, and personnel numbers, and Riker relying on his wits to overcome that advantage. A year later , the same dynamic plays out for real.
  • Also, early in the episode, Worf notes that everybody is so intimidated by the alleged strategic brilliance of Kolrami's people that nobody will risk attacking them, thus leaving their actual military competence untested. Sure enough, Kolrami is mostly useless when the Ferengi attack, and his people seem to play no role in Federation conflicts with the Borg, the Cardassians, or the Dominion.
  • Kolrami is constantly doing odd things in the background. After getting embarrassed by Picard and Riker's success, he begins awkwardly shuffling around and pats a Gold Shirt on the back.
  • When Riker first addresses the crew of the Hathaway , you can see a grin break out on Wesley's face the first time Riker calls himself "Captain".
  • Guile Hero : Riker proves to be a master in this episode. He even discusses it with Worf. Riker: You're outmanned, you're outgunned, you're out-equipped. What else have you got? Worf: Guile! Riker: Join me. Worf: The honour is to serve.
  • Heroic BSoD : Data goes through one when Kolrami beats him at Stratagema in their first match. Data cannot fathom that he could have lost after making no errors whatsoever in the game, and concludes that he is somehow damaged or deficient and thus cannot function competently as a Starfleet officer. It takes Picard shaking him out of it by telling Data that it is possible to make no mistakes and still fail.
  • Hyperspeed Escape : The Hathaway pulls this off during her faked destruction. The Ferengi then do this when it looks like The Cavalry has arrived.
  • I Know You Know I Know : Data begins a potentially endless chain of this when analyzing Riker's probable tactics, but Troi talks him out of it by telling him to focus on Riker's personality.
  • Insistent Terminology : Wesley didn't cheat ; he improvised , like Riker told him to.
  • Insufferable Genius : Kolrami is confident to the point of arrogance and has the strategic knowledge and skill to back it up.
  • Jerkass Has a Point : Kolrami's advice to abandon the Hathaway . The crew on the Hathaway are in no way expendable (there's several key officers on that ship), but staying would put more than a thousand lives on the Enterprise at greater risk. Even Riker admits that Kolrami may be right, until they Take a Third Option .
  • Man Versus Machine : Pulaski of all people is excited to pit Data against Kolrami in Stratagema assuming Data would win, or bare minimum it would be an engaging game. To everyone's surprise Data is defeated about as quickly as Riker. While the mechanics of the game appear mathematical like chess there may have been another element that put Data at a disadvantage like everyone else (other episodes show the senior staff poker games similarly have him stumped in certain strategies).
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!" : The entire Enterprise bridge crew gets one when they realize that the Ferengi ship attacking them is all too real.
  • Mildly Military : Picard describes Starfleet as a non-military organization whose primary mission is exploration, but still wants to engage in the tactical simulation for the sake of preparedness against the Borg.
  • No One Gets Left Behind : Picard refuses to leave a single member of his crew at the mercy of the Ferengi.
  • Not So Above It All : Despite being a total dick regarding Riker, Kolrami can't help laughing when Riker and Worf pull the sensor trick against the Enterprise .
  • Paintball Episode : A sci-fi Space Navy version— the Enterprise and the Hathaway use low-power laser weapons to simulate phasers, with "damage" recorded by computer.
  • Pet the Dog : After being quite prejudiced against Data earlier in the season, and warming to him over time, Pulaski is now shown to be actively supportive of him and invested in his well-being.
  • Planet of Hats : We are introduced to the Zakdorn race, whose hat is strategic thinking . Apparently they are so unbeatable that no other race has dared to challenge them. Data points out that merely maintaining this reputation has been an effective strategy in itself, as it's resulted in thousands of years of peace for them. However, Worf is only interested in whether or not they live up to their reputation in an actual fight.
  • Pride Before a Fall : Kolrami's humiliation in the second game of Stratagema against Data, which becomes an eternal stalemate. Kolrami is not pleased at being made a fool of.
  • Rage Quit : Kolrami is practically unbeatable in a straight match of Stratagema, so long as his opponent is playing to win like he is. After Data alters his goal to making the game last indefinitely, Kolrami stops the game in a tantrum and accuses Data of making a mockery of him.
  • Resurrect the Wreck : The Hathaway can only be generously described as "functional", with power systems barely supplying anything and no warp drive. Over the course of 48 hours, Riker and his team get her working enough for the battle simulation, with Wesley giving them what they need for a brief warp jump.
  • Self-Punishment Over Failure : Data loses at a game, surprising everyone, including himself. He relieves himself of duty and hides in his quarters, doing one self-diagnostic after another. As he tells Picard, "I have not been able to isolate the problem. I might make a mistake." Picard has to tell him that it's possible to lose without making a mistake, and that this is a part of life.
  • Smug Snake : Kolrami, so much, to the point where Pulaski goads Data into playing him at Stratagema just to see him taken down a peg.
  • Picard has the choice of fighting to protect the Hathaway and risking the destruction of the Enterprise , or retreating and sacrificing the Hathaway to save the Enterprise . He instead fakes the destruction of the Hathaway .
  • Data determines that the basic goal of Strategema is assuming both sides are trying to win, so he plays with the intention of simply countering Kolrami infinitely without making any offensive maneuver. While this is a plausible strategy in many scenarios (prolonging an engagement until the enemy makes a mistake) Kolrami does a Rage Quit before Data can change his plan.
  • A Taste of Defeat : Pulaski persuades Data to play Stratagema against Kolrami with the intention of taking the haughty Zakdorn down a peg. It doesn't work the first time, but it does in their rematch.
  • The Strategist : Kolrami, and his entire race as a whole.
  • Unusual User Interface : Strategema is played with a device consisting of two pairs of five-thimbles, and the game id displayed with three planar layers that spin around slowly.
  • We Win, Because You Didn't : In his rematch with Kolrami, Data decides to play to a stalemate instead of a win. Eventually, Kolrami gets so exasperated that he Rage Quits . At first Data insists that he did not technically defeat Kolrami, but bows to his fellow crewmembers' insistence that he "busted him up."
  • Worthy Opponent : Picard is most impressed after the Hathaway crew pull the sensor trick— referring to Riker as "the best."

“ Star Trek ” fans got a couple fascinating details in a March 27 report by Variety on the future of the franchise on Paramount+. The biggest for sure is that the character of Rachel Garrett, the first female captain of the USS Enterprise, will be appearing in the “Section 31” direct-to-Paramount+ movie that’s going to star Michelle Yeoh .

The actress Kacey Rohl will be playing Garrett, who was the captain of the Enterprise-C in the first half of the 24th century and was the subject of one of the most beloved “Next Generation” episodes ever: “Yesterday’s Enterprise” (she was played by Tricia O’Neal in the original episode).

This is the episode where, once they’ve agreed to face their doom, Picard says, “Let’s make sure history never forgets the name Enterprise.” If Kirk didn’t believe in a “no win” situation, she faced one head-on, making Garrett an especially valiant captain.

In the “Star Trek” timeline, she’s the first female Enterprise captain. In order, the timeline goes: Jonathan Archer of the pre-Federation Enterprise NX-01, James T. Kirk of the Enterprise NCC-1701 and Enterprise-A, Alan Ruck’s John Harriman of the Enterprise-B (this writer chooses to believe that since the lore does say Harrison came from “a prominent family,” that he is in fact a descendant of Connor Roy, thus winning the ultimate succession: the Enterprise captain’s chair), and then Garrett.

One other interesting detail emerged in that report: That the “Starfleet Academy” show, which IndieWire told you a year ago must logically have a 32nd Century setting as a follow-up series to “Discovery,” is in fact confirmed to be set then, but, surprisingly, is being targeted to a “tween and teen” audience.

Jonathan Frakes, who’s directed episodes of every “Trek” series since “Next Gen” in addition to playing Riker on that series and beyond, is quoted in the Variety piece as saying that he thinks the franchise’s audience is older. Franchise mastermind Alex Kurtzman seems to hope that a show like “Starfleet Academy” may reach a new audience altogether.

Reps for Paramount+ did not respond to IndieWire’s request for comment about confirmation of these details.

Service history [ ]

The Stargazer entered service in 2326 , on stardate 38197.5. ( TNG : " The Battle " dedication plaque (X) ; PIC : " The Star Gazer " commemorative plaque (X) )

In 2333 , Jean-Luc Picard served as a bridge officer on this vessel. He later described the Stargazer as an " overworked, underpowered vessel, always on the verge of flying apart at the seams . " ( TNG : " Relics ")

When the ship's captain was killed, Picard took command of the situation and the vessel. ( TNG : " Tapestry ")

Starfleet Command looked so favorably on Picard's actions, that they appointed him as the vessel's new commanding officer , a post he held for twenty-two years. Picard's crew included Jack R. Crusher , a weapons officer named Vigo , as well as physician Moritz Benayoun . ( TNG : " The Battle "; PIC : " Maps and Legends ")

At one point, the Stargazer was involved in a secret mission to the fireforest of Calyx . ( PIC : " Maps and Legends ")

The Stargazer saw action in the Cardassian Wars . The ship was involved in a truce offering by the Federation in sector 21503 .

After making contact with a Cardassian warship , Captain Picard lowered the ship's shields as a gesture of good will, but as he later put it, " the Cardassians were not impressed. " They managed to take out most of the Stargazer 's weapons and damaged its impulse engines . The Stargazer managed to regroup and flee. ( TNG : " The Wounded ")

In 2353 , Jack R. Crusher was killed on an away mission, forcing Picard to present Crusher's remains to his widow, Beverly . ( TNG : " Tapestry ", " Violations ", " Encounter at Farpoint ")

In 2354 , the Stargazer visited the planet Chalna . ( TNG : " Allegiance ")

Battle of Maxia [ ]

Picard stargazer command chair

Picard on the bridge of the Stargazer

In 2355 , the Stargazer was attacked and severely damaged by an unknown vessel in the Maxia Zeta system . Picard was able to destroy the attacking vessel, using what would later be named the Picard Maneuver . The Stargazer was overcome by fire and severe damage during the battle and had to be abandoned. The event was called the " Battle of Maxia " by the Ferengi . ( TNG : " The Battle ")

As the loss of a starship was a court martial offense, Picard was court-martialed for the loss of the Stargazer , zealously prosecuted by Phillipa Louvois . In the end, he was absolved of all charges. ( TNG : " The Battle ", " The Measure Of A Man ")

Recovery [ ]

In 2364 , the wreck of the Stargazer was found adrift and salvaged by the Ferengi. The Ferengi DaiMon Bok desired revenge against Picard, as his son had died commanding the attacking vessel at the "Battle of Maxia". He falsified the logs of the Stargazer to indicate that it was the Stargazer that committed an unprovoked attack against the Ferengi vessel. Through the use of an illegal " thought maker ", Bok caused Captain Picard to relive the day of the battle in hallucinations , supposedly as a mental breakdown after the real truth had come out. When the devices were discovered, William T. Riker was able to convince the captain to destroy the "thought maker" causing his hallucinations. The Stargazer was towed to Xendi Starbase 9 . ( TNG : " The Battle ")

The Stargazer was later sent to the Fleet Museum at Athan Prime , where it was restored and put on display in 2402 . ( PIC : " The Star Gazer " commemorative plaque ; PIC : " The Bounty ", " Vox ", " The Last Generation ")

This incident was mentioned, as an example of Jean-Luc Picard's supposed incompetence, by Lieutenant Commander Dexter Remmick when questioning Deanna Troi . Remmick alleged that, according to Picard's own logs , he had suffered from a mental lapse. Although Troi protested that he had been under the control of a Ferengi thought maker , Remmick wasn't swayed in his opinion. ( TNG : " Coming of Age ")

In 2365 , when speaking with Guinan about her origins, Wesley Crusher said that he had heard from some of the crew that she had met Picard when he was the commanding officer of the Stargazer . Guinan replied that she didn't know the captain until she came aboard the USS Enterprise -D . ( TNG : " The Child ")

USS Stargazer model

Picard's model of the Stargazer

In 2369 , Picard would look back fondly on his time commanding the Stargazer and once confided to Montgomery Scott that, even after several years of commanding the far superior USS Enterprise -D, there were still times he would give almost anything to command the Stargazer again. ( TNG : " Relics ")

A model of the Stargazer was stored in Picard's section of the quantum archive at the Starfleet Archive Museum . ( PIC : " Remembrance ")

Ensigns Beckett Mariner and Brad Boimler had a model of the Stargazer at their Starfleet recruitment booth on Tulgana IV in 2381 . Mariner threw the model at a pair of conspiracy truthers who were heckling them, causing Boimler to exclaim, " Not the 'Gazer ! " ( LD : " Reflections ")

In 2399 , Dr. Benayoun was called to Picard's home , and commented on his realization that the purpose was not to reminisce about the Stargazer . ( PIC : " Maps and Legends ")

Later that year, Picard corrected Dr. Agnes Jurati that the Picard Maneuver had originated aboard the Stargazer rather than the Enterprise . ( PIC : " Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2 ")

Background information [ ]

The name Stargazer first appears in notes by Gene Roddenberry in 1986, in which he writes of the captain of the new USS Enterprise , then tentatively named William T. English (but which would later become Picard), " He is excited by the adventure of human intelligence challenged by the mysteries of the stars. At the Starfleet Academy, his (affectionate) nickname was 'Stargazer.' " [1]

A gold-painted model of the Constellation -class NCC-7100 served as regular set dressing in the set of Captain Picard's USS Enterprise -D ready room. This model was often mistakenly assumed to be of the Stargazer . This mistake was perpetuated by the Star Trek Encyclopedia  (3rd ed., p. 469). As noted in other sources, however, the idea of the Stargazer was conceived after that gold model had been created, though it was eventually used to create the filming model for this ship.

The Stargazer was originally intended to be a Constitution -class vessel, the same as Captain Kirk 's USS Enterprise . In fact, in the first draft script of "The Battle", the Stargazer was identified as not only being of that class but also from the "late 23rd century." The latter notion wasn't included in the episode's final draft script, which nonetheless still contained multiple references to the Stargazer as a Constitution -class ship. [2] Additionally, the yellow NCC-7100 model was replaced with a silver Constitution -class model in Picard's ready room for "The Battle". When the Stargazer filming model was eventually designed, it was decided that a new model, derisively referred to as the "pie dish", should be used. Since LeVar Burton had already recorded a line of dialogue identifying the ship as Constitution -class, the name of the new ship's class had to be similar to "Constitution" to make it easy to overdub; the production crew settled on "Constellation".

In 1994 , Galoob produced a toy model of the Stargazer as part of their Micromachines line. The coloring on the model was completely wrong and was actually based on the coloring of the NCC-7100 model seen in Picard's office.

In a Starfleet Technical Database article ( Star Trek: The Magazine  Volume 1, Issue 2 ) written by Rick Sternbach , it was stated that, after the Stargazer was towed back to Xendi Starbase 9, it was repaired, and returned to limited active duty for eight years (from 2366 to 2374 ), after which it was mothballed as a museum ship at the Copernicus Yard Museum, Luna, alongside the USS Valkyrie (NCC-2590). Kept in a nitrogen - oxygen atmosphere for tours and academic study, the Stargazer was kept in a semi-operational state, to be re-activated for duty when circumstances dictated such an action.

The bridge of the Stargazer was previously seen as the battle bridge of the Enterprise -D in " Encounter at Farpoint ". Before The Next Generation , the set was used as the bridge of the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Motion Picture . ( Creating the Next Generation )

The Starfleet orders giving Picard command of the Stargazer were preserved in the Picard family album . ( Star Trek Encyclopedia  (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 143))

The model of the Stargazer was one of the props displayed at Comic Con's exhibit Jean-Luc Picard: The First Duty in the summer of 2019. It is stated in a sign that the ship was decomissioned at the end of 2364. [3]

Dialogue in PIC : " The Star Gazer " was slightly ambiguous about whether the USS Stargazer captained by Cristóbal Rios was a completely new ship or a refit of Picard's Stargazer . In an interview with TrekMovie.com, Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas was asked to clarify this question. He said:

The observation lounge on Rios' Stargazer contained models of three ships: the Radiant -class USS Stargazer , Picard's Constellation -class Stargazer , and Rios' Sagan -class ship.

Apocrypha [ ]

The crew of the Stargazer had been featured in many novels by Michael Jan Friedman . First appearing in Pocket TNG : Reunion , a novel published by Pocket Books , it had spun off the Star Trek: Stargazer series, during which the ship had a brief encounter with the mirror universe , as well as detailing Picard's first meeting with Guinan during a confrontation with Enabran Tain . The full circumstances of the Battle of Maxia, and Picard's history between the loss of the Stargazer and becoming captain of the Enterprise -D, are covered in the novel The Buried Age .

The Stargazer was also included as a playable ship in the video game Star Trek: Legacy . During the story, it was revealed that the ship's captain, Daithan Ruhalter ( β ), is killed on the bridge and the ship severely damaged from a shock wave resulting from renegade Vulcan T'Uerell ( β ) destroying a planet in the Neutral Zone. Picard took command of the ship and attempted to stop stellar debris from destroying other planets in a Federation system. The player can control the Stargazer with Picard in command during this mission in the game.

The Stargazer prevented an interplanetary war in the Double Helix novel #6, The First Virtue .

Stargazer

USS Stargazer (NCC-2893-A) in Star Trek Online

In Star Trek Online , a new USS Stargazer ( β ) (NCC-2893-A) was built in the years after Star Trek Nemesis , as the first of a new class of heavy cruiser .

The Stargazer -class ( β ) was one of the available design choices (along with the Cheyenne -class and Dakota -class ( β )) for the Heavy Cruiser ship available to Federation characters at the rank of Commander. Additionally, the original Constellation -class, with a console that allows the ship to perform the Picard Maneuver, can be purchased from the in-game store.

Star Trek: Section 31 revealing that the young Garrett encounters Emperor Georgiou and may even be recruited into Section 31 in the early 24th century is a compelling and fascinating twist.

Captain Rachel Garrett's sacrifice was referenced at the start of Star Trek: Picard season 3. A statue of Captain Garrett, known as ''The Red Lady' , stood in front of a Starfleet recruitment center on M'Talas Prime that was destroyed by Captain Vadic (Amanda Plummer). However, nothing was known about Rachel's past. Star Trek: Section 31 revealing that the young Garrett encounters Emperor Georgiou and may even be recruited into Section 31 in the early 24th century is a compelling and fascinating twist on this Star Trek legacy character.

During Excelsior' s survey mission to a previously uncharted planet , Hathaway insisted that Admiral Kirk complete a backlog of routine reports in the two days prior to the ship's rendezvous with the USS Sturgeon , some of which were improperly submitted. She passed along a request from the Federation Diplomatic Corps to clarify aspects of the Ajir-Grond treaty that Kirk negotiated earlier that year. She also noticed discrepancies on old reports dating back to a few of Kirk's USS Enterprise missions in 2266 and 2267 . ( TOS comic : " The Trouble With Bearclaw ")

Anne Hathaway’s The Idea Of You Co-Star Responds To His Character Being Compared To Harry Styles

We found Harry Style's fictional doppleganger!

Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in The Idea of You beside an image of Harry Styles in

Not set to be released to the public until May 2nd, Academy Award Winner Anne Hathaway’s latest movie The Idea of You has already debuted on Rotton Tomatoes with a perfect score after its South by Southwest premiere. It’s great press for a movie that’s already on everyone's minds thanks to an interesting story and some similarities between the movie’s fictional boy band and the very real international sensation that was One Direction .

In the movie, Hathaway plays Sophie, a single mom who accompanies her teenage daughter to Coachella. While there, she meets Hayes Campbell ( Nicholas Galitzine ), the lead singer of a famous boy band, and against all odds, the two hit it off and begin an epic romance.

It’s not just the fictional boy band that has fans drawing comparisons to the boyband, though. Red, White, and Royal Blue star Galtizine’s character Hayes has also drawn some superfans’ attention as many compare him to One Direction breakout star Harry Styles . In fact, it’s such a common comparison, that Variety asked the rising actor his thoughts on the matter while at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. To which he responded:

It’s funny because it’s not a comparison that I’ve ever made. But people really like to make it. Hayes Campbell, the man I’m playing, is a very different character and we want him to exist in his own world.

Galtizine might not see the similarities, but One Direction fans certainly do. It’s understandable too since the book from which the movie is adapted was loosely inspired by the famous singer. However, the author, Robinee Lee, wants to make it clear that neither her book nor the movie is based on Harry Styles fan fiction like the After movie series and is only loosely inspired by Styles’ public persona and his pattern of dating older women.

Though the “Watermelon Sugar” singer has nothing to do with The Idea of You it didn’t stop many from wondering if he would make an appearance at the March South by Southwest premiere of the movie. Galitinze also commented on that matter, telling Variety:

I don’t know him personally. Harry, if you’re in Austin, Texas, in the next week come along and chill with Annie and I.

While I’m sad to report that the Grammy Award Winner did not make an appearance, there’s still a chance for words to collide if the film gets a formal Los Angeles premiere. And even if it doesn’t, perhaps Styles will return to his acting pursuits and get cast alongside the Bottoms and The Princess Diaries stars in the future. We can only dream!

Until then, fans can catch Hathaway and Galenztine’s impressive performance in The Idea of You starting May 2nd when the romantic comedy is released on Prime Video. Make sure you set those reminders because the movie might just become one of the best new romantic comedies alongside Anyone But You. And don't forget to check out all the other 2024 movies set to release this year .

Director sam raimi responds to rumors that tobey maguire's spider-man 4 is happening.

Following multiple rumors that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 4 is happening with Sam Raimi, the Marvel director breaks his silence and responds.

  • Sam Raimi breaks his silence on whether he is working on Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire as rumors have suggested.
  • If Spider-Man 4 doesn't happen, Maguire's Peter Parker could return to the MCU in Deadpool & Wolverine or Avengers 5 or 6.
  • The multiverse concept may lead Maguire's Spider-Man to appear in future Avengers movies, teaming up with MCU characters.

Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi comments on whether he is actually making Spider-Man 4 with Marvel actor Tobey Maguire. After Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the return of Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions of Peter Parker, Marvel audiences have been clamoring to see their canceled sequels be revived, especially Raimi's Spider-Man 4 movie . With the Spider-Verse concept being more popular than ever, the door is wide open for Sony to revisit any of their live-action Spider-Man universes at this point.

After more than a year of rumors floating around that Spider-Man 4 is in the works with Maguire and Raimi, the director was asked by CBR directly if the rumors are true. However, it seems they aren't. According to Raimi, he hasn't heard anything about Maguire's Spider-Man 4 getting resurrected, while praising seeing him be part of the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast , as he shared the following:

Well, I haven't heard about that yet, I did read that, but, I'm actually not working on it yet . I mean, Marvel and Columbia [are] so successful with their current Spider-Man and the track there and I don't know that they're going to go back to me and say 'We could also tell that story!' I'm not sure. But I love all the new Spider-Man movies. I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really, super powerful seeing Tobey [Maguire] again in it. I haven't talked to Tobey about it, but maybe Marvel has, or Columbia Pictures. But, I just worked with Marvel on a movie called Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So, I'm on great terms with them. I'm sure I would hear about it if it was in the works. I think so. I don't know.

Every Way Sam Raimi's Canceled Spider-Man 4 Plans Live On In Other Movies

How tobey maguire's spider-man can & should return to the mcu, since spider-man 4 doesn't appear to be happening, he could return in other ways.

While Raimi's Spider-Man 4 with Maguire may not happen at this point, there are other ways for his version of Peter Parker to swing his way back into the MCU. Even though the MCU is scaling back in 2024 with their release schedule, Deadpool & Wolverin e would be a major way for Maguire's Spider-Man to reenter the franchise. With Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson seemingly exploring other Marvel properties that are not tied to the MCU, it would be fun to see Maguire's Spider-Man somehow show up.

Maguire's Spider-Man would be a natural fit for Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.

With The Multiverse Saga still moving forward, Maguire's Spider-Man would be a natural fit for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and/or Avengers: Secret Wars . Given how the entire multiverse will be at risk, the next Avengers movies would be the organic time for Maguire to suit up as Spider-Man again and join forces with other Marvel heroes. This way, it would theoretically be an opportunity for Maguire's Spider-Man to cross paths with other Marvel movie characters from the 2000s era.

Given how beloved Maguire's incarnation of Spider-Man is to this day, it would be shocking if Sony and Marvel didn't find more than one way to bring him back. It makes sense why they may not consider doing Spider-Man 4 with Maguire and Raimi, especially as Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 is in development , but that shouldn't prevent the MCU from featuring his Peter Parker again in some capacity. For now, while Spider-Man 4 is not on the table, the Marvel audience will hopefully see Maguire back as the Marvel icon in the near future.

Everything We Know About Sam Raimi's Cancelled Spider-Man 4

Spider-man would've faced vulture years before spider-man: homecoming.

Spider-Man 4 , initially slated for May 2011, was going to attempt to lean back into what made the franchise as popular as it was in the 2000s. One of the elements that would have finally been embraced from the original trilogy in Spider-Man 4 was Dylan Baker's Lizard , as Dr. Curt Connors was planned to appear. Instead, the Lizard arc got its cinematic debut in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man , with Rhys Ifans playing the villain opposite Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker.

While Michael Keaton got to play Adrian Toomes in the MCU through Spider-Man: Homecoming , Raimi almost beat Marvel Studios to the punch when it came to bringing the Vulture to the big screen. John Malkovich was initially set to be the first actor to play Vulture in live-action , as he was being eyed to serve as the main antagonist in Spider-Man 4 . Throughout the years, various pieces of Spider-Man 4 concept art and glimpses of Raimi's vision for Vulture have emerged online, but specific plot details have remained under wraps for nearly 15 years.

Before landing the role of Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises , Anne Hathaway had been eyed to play Felicia Hardy aka the Black Cat in Spider-Man 4 . Given her many allegiances in the comics, it's unclear if she would have been an ally, foe, or both to Spider-Man. The cast would have also included Maguire, Kristen Dunst's Mary Jane Watson, J.K. Simmons' J. Jonah Jameson, and, reportedly, Bryce Dallas Howard's Gwen Stacey, along with other supporting characters from the original trilogy before Spider-Man 4 was ultimately cancelled.

Spider-Man 4

Spider-Man 4 is the canceled sequel to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. Despite his plans to develop another movie starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, the director chose to scrap the project early in development, which allowed Sony to move forward with the Andrew Garfield-led reboot The Amazing Spider-Man. Ideas for the canceled fourth installment included John Malkovich's Vulture, Anne Hathaway's Felicia Hardy, and Bruce Campbell's Mysterio.
