the sun travel bag

Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian

What sets the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian apart from all other travel bags is the integrated leg set that, when extended, supports the entire weight of the bag and its contents, making it incredibly easy to navigate through airports, hotels and parking lots. The unique design regularly elicited stares – but given how much easier the Meridian makes traveling with your clubs, we think you’ll be seeing far more of these in the future.

The wheels roll smoothly (no resistance here!) and the pivoting front wheels on the legs make it quite maneuverable. This bag saves you from tired arms, shoulders and backs from pulling it behind you, and you don’t have to deal with picking up and putting the bag down again over and over as you snake through the check-in line. Pop the retractable legs out and you’re ready to roll (pun intended). Our only minor quibble on the legs is that you have to snap them back into place when getting on an escalator, and then pop them back out when you’ve reached the top.

We had such a pleasant experience traveling with the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian travel bag that our overall assessment is just, “Why the heck didn’t we think of that first?”

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

The Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian is primarily made of nylon, with a hard plastic tray covering the bottom back 2 feet of the case into which the legs retract. There are two in-line skate wheels at the base of the case that allow it to be pulled even when the legs aren’t extended, in the event you’re going over large curbs or using an escalator. The legs don’t extend past the molded plastic tray when they are folded in, and a relatively strong internal spring holds the legs firmly in place, so they aren’t likely to be accidentally extended out and damaged during travel.

Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian Travel Case

There is thin padding throughout the bag, with additional foam padding at the top to protect the clubheads where they extend from your golf carry bag. There is a two-way zipper that runs the length of the bag. With internal dimensions of 52″ x 14″ x 12″, the bag easily accommodated our set of clubs, including our longest woods.

We haven’t experienced damage to any parts of the Meridian from travel, though the exterior nylon material, along with the various handles, zippers and rivets, don’t seem to be quite as durable as some other bags featuring Cordura or hard plastic exteriors.

The design of the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian also includes:

  • a covered slot with a snap button to hold a business card (in case your Meridian hops a flight in a different direction)
  • two internal straps to secure your golf bag (adjustable to accommodate any size bag), including one that fits around the top of the bag and one at the base
  • three handle positions: two straps that snap together at the top of the bag and form the primary handle used when pulling the bag, two straps that attach and form a handle at the middle, and one handle at the base of the bag that is helpful for lifting the bag into and out of vehicles
  • two in-line skate wheels that extend slightly beyond the base of the case, that can be used on their own when pulling the bag, or combined with the wheels on the legs for four-wheeled travel
  • a reasonable set of four color options: all black, or black with lava (aka orange), baltic (blue), or red.

Sun Mountain does not offer a stiff arm insert to further protect the clubs while traveling. The Club Glove Stiff Arm should fit, though we didn’t test it (nor was it designed for use in non-Club Glove bags).

We tested the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian with a standard sized carry bag, tossing in some additional clothes and shoes, and were pleased with the interior capacity. For those looking for even smaller bags, or one that accommodates staff or multiple carry bags, there are other Sun Mountain ClubGlider versions to consider:

  • Sun Mountain ClubGlider Journey: A streamlined version of the Meridian. Two pockets (interior access only). 12.8 pounds. Check price for the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Journey Travel Cover at Golfsmith
  • Sun Mountain ClubGlider Cascade: Smaller than the Meridian. Four pockets (interior access only). 13.2 pounds.
  • Sun Mountain ClubGlider Pro: The largest of the ClubGlider line, built to carry a staff bag or two carry bags. Four pockets (interior access only). 15.6 pounds. Check price for the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Pro Travel Cover at Golfsmith .

TRAVEL IMPRESSIONS

If you couldn’t tell from our introduction, we are huge fans of traveling with the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian. While it isn’t the lightest travel bag we tested (the case weighed in at 14.6 pounds), the additional weight doesn’t matter much when you’re rolling it through the airport. On the other hand, your back might complain a bit more when you’re hoisting it into and out of the trunk of your car. The legs extend to support the weight of the case for easy rolling while traveling .The legs can be extended by pulling them down and then out away from the bag in one motion – it’s easy and quick, and can be done while holding the bag vertically with the other hand. As mentioned above, the legs have a spring-loaded system, so if they are not fully engaged they will retract back into their molded tray. To retract the legs you need to pull the legs out away from the bag, and then push them down back into the molded tray. You’ll generally need to use two hands for this, with one steadying the bag as the other pulls the legs away.

Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian Travel Case

The wheels rolled easily and smoothly…it required so little effort to guide the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian through the airport that we wondered why all travel bags don’t have this feature. It is possible to push the bag, but the pivoting wheels on the legs make it much easier to pull the bag instead. And when we say “pull”…it really requires so little effort that you can’t compare it to pulling normal travel bags, where you must support a significant portion of the 40+ pound weight of the case and its contents.

The Meridian had ample capacity for our set of clubs and carry bag, with room left over for some additional clothing. There isn’t as much interior space as in some comparable bags (such as the Club Glove Last Bag ), but there’s enough to fit the basics. The dual pockets on either side of the bag sit relatively flush and extend primarily to the interior of the case when filled, so you don’t really gain storage space by packing items here. The pockets are accessible either from the outside or inside of the bag, so if you need to grab something out of the pockets when you’re at the airport, you don’t need to unzip and open the entire bag.

Unlike the Club Glove Last Bag , which tapers at the top to be more snug around the clubheads and provide more packing space around the body, the Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian has a uniform shape. The bag is easy to stand on end (vertically) even though it lacks a plastic base. As a soft bag, it benefits from having some give to it when you’re trying to wedge it into the trunk of your car, and can be folded over for more compact storage when not in use.

The only suggestion we can think of would be for Sun Mountain to add clips or carabiners by the center handles to allow travelers to attach additional baggage to the ClubGlider and offload the weight of those bags on to the rolling case as well. It’s such a benefit to have the case support 100% of the weight that it would be great to be able to leverage this for anything else you might be carrying.

The Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian retails for $339, placing it among the more expensive travel cases in our tests. At this price, what you are paying for beyond all else are the legs that support 100% of your clubs and case and allow you to easily wheel the case as you travel. The warranty covers any damage to the bag itself for one year – there isn’t any warranty covering damage to the clubs inside of the bag (of the bags we tested, the SKB Deluxe is the only one with that additional warranty). The Meridian doesn’t have a hard exterior shell or Cordura fabric to protect your clubs that other travel bags do, but then again, that isn’t the focus of this bag.

You can find other bags for much less than the Meridian, of course, but you just have to ask yourself…what is the value of a bag that supports 100% of its own weight? For us, quite a bit.

REVIEW: Sun Mountain Golf Kube travel cover

the sun travel bag

Maybe you’ve seen the Sun Mountain Kube before. I hadn’t. New in 2019, a media friend of mine showed me one and I thought it was a suitcase.

“That’s my golf travel bag,” he corrected. (Seriously?) It was too small and cute for that to be true.

“That 12 x 12 cube fits all your golf clubs in it?”

It’s 14.5 x 13, but, yes, it does. The practicality blew my mind. It’s the first time I’ve ever sat and played with someone else’s golf bag like it was a puppy. ‘Wow,’ I thought, imagining the possibility of no more golf buddy trips with a cluster of bags all over. Hard shell on one side, padding on the other, looking like a block from Super Mario World, it’s an amazing concept and it works so perfectly.

NEW FEATURES: Sun Mountain’s newest travel bag meshes hard, ballistic-style nylon material with plastic half-shells to protect your clubs in a uniquely rock-soft utopia. Once you remove your clubs though, the bag gets even more practical, packing neatly into a lightweight (6.8 pound) cube.

the sun travel bag

DEFINING FEATURES: Golf travel bags can’t get much more practical, or portable, for that matter. With clubs inside, the heavily padded bag’s dimensions are 52" x 14" x 14", and with solid wheels it rolls easily in any direction. With clubs removed, the bag condenses into a tight, 9” x 13” x 14.5” cube in any of eight bold colors. Solid snaps lock the sides in place, and you could stack 12 of these in the trunk of a compact car. (Note: Squeezing 12 people into a compact car would overcorrect said lack of perspiration.)

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES: Multiple materials, each with their own intentional and complimentary purpose make unfolding, packing, unpacking and folding-back-up all a breeze. (Someone at Sun Mountain got an A+ in physics, and hopefully a raise!) If the bag has a weakness, it’s that it lacks the middle padding and molded tray of their Clubgliders. If it has another weakness, it’s that it’s so cool looking it may get stolen. That’s bad if it happens, but good if your insurance gets you new clubs. (And another Kube bag.) There is no shoe pouch specifically, but that’s not necessarily a deterrent.

COMPARABILITY: As a frequent golf traveler, I’ve gone through several travel bags. My hard-shell cases have had failing clasps and broken wheels. The soft-shells have had wonky zippers and weakly stitched (easily worn) pressure points. Sun Mountain addressed and anticipated those faults well, placing extra fabric reinforcement in specific spots to prevent excessive wear and tear and by adding full-length, heavy-duty, two-way zippers. Is it better than the Clubglider? To be honest, they are actually incomparable.

COST AND VALUE: Retailing at $230, the bag isn't inexpensive. That said, novelty is certainly part of the price, and practicality is probably the rest. I don’t know what price I’d have put on one of these ($150 maybe) but I do know that I’m unlikely to need (or want) a different golf travel bag this decade so, that extra $80 is worth it to me.

This is a beast of no burden, except for the initial cost.

“Revolutionary” is an overused word when it comes to new product lines, but it fits properly here. I remain in awe of this carry bag and encourage everyone to check them out. I’m not sure how I’d react to someone coming up to play with my golf travel bag, but I’m thankful I did that myself, because it led me to owning this mini box of mucho mojo.

Accessory Reviews

Review: sun mountain clubglider meridian travel bag.

the sun travel bag

Pros: Sun Mountain’s ClubGlider Meridian is the only golf travel bag that comes equipped with four wheels — one pair with retractable legs — that hold 100 percent of the weight. That provides stability and convenience while transporting clubs through airports, hotels and parking lots.

Cons: With an MSRP of $289, it resides in the higher price range of travel bags.

Bottom Line: The ClubGlider travel bag from Sun Mountain makes traveling easier with a set of added wheels and retractable legs, keeps clubs safe with thick foam padding on the interior and protects against wear with reinforced vinyl on the bottom of the bag. There’s plenty of value here.

My previous foray into a golf travel bag was a hard-side model reminiscent of X-Cargo pods you see on the roofs of cars. It was clunky, difficult to transport and store, but it did keep the clubs a bit safer (after I wrapped the club heads in towels and cushioned the entire shell with soft goods, that is).

Soft-sided, durable and maneuverable are the way to go these days and for this, I took a look at a recent offering from Sun Mountain, the Club Glider Meridian . The travel bag is lightweight, attractive and trim. Measurements are 52 inches long by 14 inches tall by 12 inches wide. This is spacious without reaching cumbersome. Internal and external straps secure clubs, two external pockets provide light storage and two sets of wheels (one set on retractable legs) unite to belay all weight from the shoulders and arms of the user.

SunMountain3

The top of the club case (where the club heads go) is surrounded with thick foam padding, ensuring that the business end of the clubs enjoy pillowy comfort during the journey and loading/unloading phases. If you’ve seen the bag men at airports toss around your luggage, you know why this matters. The bottom of the bag, where the majority of the wear area occurs, is reinforced with vinyl for extended protection against wear.

For carry and pull, the Meridian comes equipped with a series of handles. One attaches to the padded, club head end of the bag, allowing its owner to tug or lift with greater leverage. A second handle is formed when two, mid-bag, duffle-style straps snap together over the zipper.

SunMountain2

The four wheels of the transportation apparatus work in tandem in pairs. The larger, rear wheels provide stability while the extendable, forward caster wheels rotate 360 degrees and allow the traveler to maneuver through airports, parking lots or hotels. The Meridian comes in three color variations: black and red, black and royal blue and solid black.

One drawback of the ClubGlider is its necessary length from top to bottom, which provides complete protection for our tools of the trade. It doesn’t fit easily into the trunk of a sedan (at least, my sedan), but it does negotiate the width of the back seat. Larger vehicles offer enough trunk or hatch space to situate a full ClubGlider Meridian.

In addition to this model, Sun Mountain also offers three separate models: the Journey , the Pro and the Tour Series . Each offers unique amenities so taking a tour through all four models would be a smart idea before you make a decision to purchase.

Bottom Line

The Sun Mountain ClubGlider travel bags are sure to make golf vacations easier with four sets of wheels that hold all the weight of your golf bag. Added protection, vinyl reinforcement to protect against wear and three color options make this an effective and stylish bag to keep your clubs safe in your travels.

At $289, ClubGlider still provides great value and takes the hassle out of lugging around your golf clubs.

4 1/2 stars again. Really. Just like every product review on GWX

“some people call me the space cowboy, some people call me the gangster of love…”

Some readers respond to words, others crunch numbers. We provide both.

dot dot, it’s not easy being perfect. Just ask the companies with equipment, apparel and gear we have up for review. Ask them if the investments of time, money and resources in research and development allowed them to produce the exact product they envisioned, or if some things had to be sacrificed, altered or discarded along the way.

As I recall, this bag received a 4.6 for storage, the lowest of the three categories. Why is that? The bag is sleek. If it were bulkier, it would have more room for storage. Is it a suitcase? Shouldn’t be. Could the side pockets be larger and fit more? Perhaps. Then it would be bulkier. See where I’m going?

In the flexibility of use category, in order to build a flexible base, they had to make it a bit longer, a wee bit clumsy in the loading. That’s meta-storage. Would I have liked a few more tweaks? Yes. That’s where the other .2 came off.

Protection is the most important attribute of a bag and this one protects. The flexibility needed for storage of the unit causes the unit a bit of weakness in the midsection, but not anywhere near the amount that would place bag or clubs at risk.

You can’t have it all. Not even God can hit a one-iron. If you have the need for a new travel bag, you can rest at night after purchasing this one. Could you design and build a better one? Perhaps. Maybe a 4.8.

Jul 31, 2014 at 8:18 am

Ya missed the point Ronnie. There is rarely a review less than 4.5 stars. Are these reviews or adds.

Jul 31, 2014 at 11:28 am

Bear with me, dot dot.

When I was a younger reviewer, I remember a couple of products that flat-out sucked. I wasn’t with golfwrx at the time. I emailed the manufacturer and told him that I couldn’t in good faith review his product, because it had no market value. I could do that because it was my own, small, no-advertiser site.

What comes with a site that is not my own, is larger and has advertisers and a large following, is the need to be totally transparent and to evaluate fairly all of the products assigned to me. I’m attempting to do that here, so I don’t mind answering your questions.

It has been ten years since I have seen a bad product. While every product may not be for everyone, if I give it a 4.7, then it’s a 4.7.

Believe it or not, I’m tempted to give nearly every product a 5.0. I begin with the assumption that it is perfect, be it a ball, shirt, DVD set, or travel bag. From that tape, I begin to chip away at the perfection until I reach my evaluation point.

Jul 31, 2014 at 11:52 am

As long as that explanation allows you to live with your rational I certainly accept it. You don’t owe me or anyone else an explanation. I have elected at this point not to give any weight to the reviews on this site due to their overwhelming tendency to be far to generous. It just makes sense to me that any pack of dogs will have a runt somewhere. I haven’t seen that “runt” review yet on this website. The news can’t always be good, Suspicious mind? Yep. Advertisements masquerading as reviews, seems like it to me. No offense intended you are a prolific and gifted writer, I wish you only the best in your writing career. That’s my totally transparent opinion.

Jul 30, 2014 at 5:43 pm

Feel you! Lightweight and flexible. Hard to find anything substantial to complain about. Thanks for writing. Keep it up!

Insider photos from tiger woods’ launch event for his new “sun day red” apparel line.

the sun travel bag

On Monday evening, inside the swanky, second-story “Coach House” event center in the Palisades Village, just minutes down the road from the 2024 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, Tiger Woods and TaylorMade officially announced their new apparel/footwear/accessory line, called “Sun Day Red.”

The Sun Day Red website officially launched on Monday night during the event, and the products are set to go on sale starting May 1.

The “Sun Day Red,” or “SDR” name will be self-explanatory for most golf fans, since he’s been wearing a victory-red shirt on Sunday’s for his entire professional career, but Woods explained the meaning of Sun Day Red at the launch event:

“It started with mom. Mom thought – being a Capricorn – that my power color was red, so I wore red as a junior golfer and I won some tournaments. Lo and behold, I go to a university that is red; Stanford is red. We wore red on the final day of every single tournament, and then every single tournament I’ve played as a professional I’ve worn red. It’s just become synonymous with me.”

The Sunday Red outfit has worked to perfection for his 82 PGA Tour victories, including 15 majors, so why not make an entire apparel line based on the career-long superstition?

As I learned at Monday’s launch event, the new Sun Day Red line includes much more than just clothing. To go along with a slew of different golf shirt designs and colorways, there were also windbreakers, hoodies, shoes, hats, headcovers, ball markers and gloves on display.

The upscale event was hosted by sports media personality Erin Andrews, with special guests David Abeles (CEO of TaylorMade) and Tiger Woods himself.

As explained by Abeles, the Sun Day Red brand is an independently-run business under the TaylorMade umbrella, and is based in San Clemente, California (rather than Carlsbad, where TaylorMade headquarters is located), and it’s run by a newly-formed, independent group. Brad Blackinship, formerly of Quiksilver and RVCA, is the appointed president of the new brand.

As for the logo itself, obviously, it’s made to look like a Tiger (the animal), and is comprised of 15 tiger stripes, which correspond with Woods’ 15 major championships. While the logo may need a 16th stripe if Woods adds a major trophy to his collection, it makes perfect sense for the time being.

The golf/lifestyle line is meant to combine premium precision and athletic comfort, while still having plenty of wearability and style off the course. Like Woods said on stage at the event, he wants to be able to go right from the course to dinner wearing Sun Day Red, and that was exactly the aesthetic on display at the event on Monday.

Following the official announcement from Woods and Abeles, they revealed multiple pieces of clothing, accessories and footwear for the event-goers to ogle (and photograph). Check out a selection of product/event photos below, or head over to our @GolfWRX Instagram page for video coverage…OR, head into our GolfWRX Forums for even more photos and member discussion.

GolfWRX Spotlight: Motocaddy M7 Remote and M5 GPS DHC electric cart review

the sun travel bag

I have been thinking about electric golf push carts, or trollies, ever since I started playing in my league seven years ago.

Motocaddy has been making high-quality electric, and non-electric, carts since 2004 and has a couple of great options for the golfer who loves to walk. Motocaddy was nice enough to get their M7 Remote and M5 GPS DHC in my hands to try out on the course for a few weeks.

I have had a lot of people stop me to ask about the carts, and the one thing I keep telling them is that these carts are just flat out fun to use on the course.

the sun travel bag

Motocaddy M7 Remote

The M7 Remote was very easy to get set up right out of the box. All you have to do is charge the battery, install the wheels, and you are pretty much ready to go. The M7 folds up pretty small, just a little larger than the 3-wheel pushcart that I had been using for years. Getting it to the course should be no problem with just about any trunk space. Now, the one downside to an electric cart is the weight when moving it around, and both carts come in at around 35 pounds each. Even with that extra weight, I didn’t have much trouble lifting them in and out of the back of a pickup.

The M7 unfolds quickly with the flick of two levers and extends the front wheels automatically. Once unfolded, you drop in the battery, plug it in, and secure your bag. If you own a Motocaddy bag, they have developed a really nice system called EasiLock that involves two metal studs that fit into the bottom of the cart. This system also includes a molded base that prevents the bag from rotating at all, even on the roughest terrain. You can still use the M7 with almost any other golf bag as it includes elastic straps that wrap around the top and bottom of the bag.

As soon as you plug in the battery the LCD screen comes to life and you are ready to go. You can use the M7 without the remote by using the dial on the handle to control the starting, stopping, and speed. But the M7 has a remote that is activated by a simple press of the power button to get going. The remote is very simple with just five buttons to control where the M7 goes.

Getting a feel for the M7 takes no time at all and by the time you drive it from your car to the 1st tee you will be in complete, and confident, control of the cart. You simply press the “+” button to start moving forward and the cart takes off gently without any rattling of your clubs, and you can press that same button again to increase the speed. The cart will go from a slow crawl, for bumpy or tight areas, too, as fast as I could run with just a few presses of the button. The big red “stop” button in the center stops the cart immediately, and when stopped it is locked in place, even on steep hills. You don’t have to worry about remembering to set the brakes or anything because it is done automatically.

Steering is just as easy: simply press the right or left button to turn the cart. Small, quick presses will just slightly adjust the cart as it moves down the fairway while a long hold of the button can make it turn on a dime to the right or left.

Almost everyone asked me how stable the cart was and if it would tip over. I can proudly say that it has stayed upright even on some unseen bumps at maximum speed. Side hills, ruts, and even curbs are handled with ease with the help of the small rear wheel.

I really enjoy strolling down the fairway with nothing but the M7’s remote in my hand — it just makes golfing more fun!

the sun travel bag

Motocaddy M5 GPS DHC

After using the M7 and its fancy remote, I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t like not having it. But to be honest the M5 was just as fun to use, but for a different reason.

As the name suggests, the M5 has a built-in GPS with 40,000 courses preloaded into it. The screen is a good size, pretty responsive to the touch, and easy to read in direct sunlight. Having the GPS directly on the cart is great, you drive up to your ball and immediately have yardage to the front, back, and center of the green as well as bunkers and hazards. You can easily toggle between screens on the GPS and it offers a couple of different views to help navigate the hole. The M5 can also keep score and let you know shot distances right on the screen. Motocaddy even includes nice little touches like a screen protecter kit to ensure durability.

Driving the M5 is just as easy as the M7 with using the dial on the handle. And speaking of the handle, the grips have a great tacky rubber that grips well even in hot and humid conditions. To start the M5 you just press the dial down and the cart will gently start down the fairway. You can turn the dial to increase or decrease the speed — I found between 5-6 to be the most comfortable for me. But the speed can go up to a very fast pace if you are looking to set a record for fastest round of the day.

As you walk down the fairway, or rough, stopping the cart is as simple as pressing he dial again. When stopped the M5 engages a parking brake automatically so you don’t have to worry about it running down a hill without your approval. The M5 has tons of power to go up just about any hill and the Down Hill Control (DHC) keeps the speed consistent even when going down a steep decent.

Since the M5 has so much power, and it is a little heavy, I thought steering would be a little bit of a challenge. It wasn’t, at all. Guiding the M5 took very little effort and slight adjustments going down the fairway were very easy. Really tight turns took a slight bit more effort as the torque can want to go forward a little more than turn. Again, once you get the M5 from the car to the first tee, you will be a master at driving it.

the sun travel bag

Overall, Motocaddy has created two great carts that provide additional enjoyment to walking your favorite 9 or 18. Having the ability to walk without carrying or pushing your bag, clubs, and whatever else goes with you. I like them so much that it is going to be hard to get the M7’s remote out of my hands when I go play!

GolfWRX Spotlight: Crossrope weighted jump rope & app

the sun travel bag

An 18-hole round of golf averages out to just under five miles of walking, which on its own is a good workout. Once you throw in some potential uphill trekking you get some serious cardio too, but if you all looking for a quick workout between rounds of golf look no further than Crossrope.

Crossrope – The details

the sun travel bag

Crossrope is a system of the weighted jump rope that allows you to quickly switch the weight of the ropes you are using to boost your workout—they range from 1/4 lbs all the way up to 2 lbs depending on the kit you start out with. There is an accompanying app that helps you go through multiple workout routines and is available free, or you can upgrade to the entire library of workout routines along with more workout tracking options.

This is NOT your middle school jump rope

The handles are heavy duty and feature precision bearings to allow the rope to move smoothly around as you go through a routine. They are also ergonomic and fit into your hand naturally, which making gripping easy, something that is really nice when you’re swinging a 2 lbs coated steel cable around. The handles also come with a fast clip system to make changing cables depending on your selected workout easier too.

the sun travel bag

The ropes themselves are made from braided steel and are almost impossible to tangle, allowing them to be easily transported and stored when not in use. All in you are getting a premium piece of workout equipment that is effective and easy to store—hard to same the same thing about a treadmill.

When it comes to a workout, skipping rope is one of the most effective cardio workouts you can do, and with Crossrope, you can get both cardio and low impact weight training when using the heaviest ropes, and follow along with the guided workouts.

As someone that hadn’t used a jump rope in over a decade, starting out lighter was a nice way to ease in before moving up, and I was pleasantly surprised how easy and fun some of the workouts in the app were. If you are looking for a fun way to add something to your workouts, or you just want to try something new to get you into golf course walking shape, this could be right up your alley. Sun Mountain Eco-Lite EWP 14 Way Stand Bag Review

Sun Mountain Eco-Lite EWP 14 Way Stand Bag

Our expert review:

Reasons to buy

Reasons to avoid.

Going a step further than the Eco-Lite, Sun Mountain have also introduced an EWP version of the bag. The difference between the two models is the EWP moniker in the product names. EWP stands for Enhanced Weather Protection and, as such, it is fully waterproof, making it a bag you can use all year round.

The EWP design performed just as well as the regular model, with it being extremely comfortable, lightweight and convenient to use. Importantly, it provided ample storage, making this a top performer in the stand bag market.

One final positive worth mentioning is that the bag is made from Repreve fabric, which is made using recycled plastic bottles. Approximately twenty-five 20-oz bottles go into the material, which is a design element worth applauding.

Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Stand Bag

Sun Mountain H2NO Lite stand bag

There’s no question the H2NO Lite is one of the best golf bags in the Sun Mountain range and indeed one of the  best waterproof golf bags  on the market. Testing the H2NO Lite over a series of rounds, in differing weather conditions, we found it to be a bag that’s difficult to fault.

Providing great looks, with the color being not too garish, it really is a unique aesthetic. The quality of construction was also immediately obvious, as it’s made from a TPU-coated waterproof fabric that ensures no rain penetrates the interior, which is a significant advantage wherever you are in the world. What’s more, all the seams are taped and sealed and the high-quality YKK waterproof zippers further bolster protection.

Once again, it has a lightweight feel and weighs in at just 2.3kg. Certainly it’s easy to carry, even when it’s packed to the rafters with your golf gear. There's also plenty of storage, as six pockets provide ample space for your belongings.

Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Speed Stand Bag

Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Speed Carry Bag

Within the range, there are five colours to choose from, with this very striking electric blue and white option being the choice for our test. The first thing to appreciate though is quite how light this bag is. Weighing just 2kg, there are still bundles of space with a four-way top.

Using this bag, we were seriously impressed by the layout, with it seemingly designed by someone who plays golf. Everything was in the correct place and we were very pleased with the particularly sizeable ‘hydration pouch’, which has room for a large bottle of whatever takes your fancy.

To carry, it has an X-Strap fitted dual strap and there’s even a padded hip part so the clubs aren’t constantly clanking against your body. Other nice touches are a small hook to attach your club-cleaning brushes or your bag tags, and your umbrella can easily be hidden away.

Sun Mountain Two5 Plus Stand Bag

The Sun Mountain Two5 Plus Stand Bag

A brand synonymous with high-quality, Sun Mountain's Two5 Plus bag is a model that certainly lives up to the premium, performing name. In testing, the first thing we noticed was the styling, which is modern and looks great. As you can see, the model we tested was finished in white, black and red, a more muted design, but there are several other funky finishes too.

There is a lot to like about this bag, with one of those things being how lightweight it is. Despite being equipped with a full set of golf clubs, golf balls and the pockets bursting with other pieces of golf gear, it was incredibly easy to carry and is easily one of the  best lightweight golf bags  around. Speaking of carrying, the X-Strap system was another excellent feature.

Equipped with five pockets, it has a 4-way divider and a very reliable stand that won't cause any issues out on the golf course. Too often, we have tested bags that have stands which do not protrude out far enough. This means, in windy conditions or uneven lies, they lose balance and fall over easily. We had no such issues here.

Sun Mountain Eco-Lite 2023 Stand Bag

Sun Mountain Eco-Lite Stand Bag 2023

For golfers who like to carry their clubs, having a bag that is lightweight is vitally important, and the Eco-Lite from Sun Mountain is one of the best for this. It weighs just 4lbs and provides superb comfort whilst carrying.  This is thanks to the padded straps, which can be adjusted easily.

In weight, it’s akin to a Sunday or pencil bag but, in storage, it does compromise a touch when compared to other stand bags. The bag has four pockets, including a valuables pocket and larger pocket on the outer side. The pockets aren't particularly large, so for golfers who like to carry lots of extra layers or drinks, the pocket space fills up very quickly.

Although it isn’t fully waterproof, it is made using water-resistant fabric, which we found offered reasonably extensive protection. It wasn’t until the heavens really opened that some water began to penetrate the fabric, and even then it was minimal.

Sun Mountain C-130 Cart Bag review

Sun Mountain C130 Cart Bag

It’s not surprising that the C130 is Sun Mountain’s best-selling cart bag as it delivers all the features you would expect from a high-performance product, with the bag designed exclusively for cart use.

We found that the storage is extensive, as 13 well-placed and ample sized pockets mean you could even pack to go for a two-week vacation using the storage space in this bag. All the pockets are front-facing, meaning they’re easily accessible, with that accessibility guaranteed by the cart strap pass-through system.

In addition, a smart strap system attaches the bag more firmly to a cart with two Velcro straps to prevent twisting and movement.  The 14-way top, which also has an oversized putter well, means that clubs will be fully separated and so prevent shafts from clashing.

Sun Mountain H2NO Lite Cart Bag

A totally weather-proof golf bag for ladies

There’s an awful lot to love about the Sun Mountain H2NO Lite cart bag, especially if you're looking for a lightweight but spacious option to fit on your trolley. For starters, there’s the fact that this bag is completely waterproof, with the thick nylon fabric making the rain run off the surface.

The zips and seams are also cleverly taped to ensure that all your belongings remain dry, even in the harshest of weather conditions, making it one of the  best waterproof golf bags  we've tested in recent times.

At just 2.6kg, when empty, it’s only a little heavier than lifting two bags of sugar and, even after you add your clubs, golf balls, waterproofs, drink and accessories, it’s more than light enough.

Sun Mountain Boom Bag

The Sun Mountain Boom Bag on a green background

Equipped with speakers and a bluetooth transmitter, this Boom Bag from Sun Mountain will split opinion on the course. It's a nifty bit of kit though, with the sound surprisingly decent. We thought that it was nice and loud, if you want it, but it doesn’t have the deepest bass, something which will benefit groups who are in close proximity to you.

Featuring vinyl panels that can be wiped clean, a velour-lined valuables' pocket with multiple slots to hold your Bluetooth controller, 10.5-inch top with five individual club full-length dividers (although there’s also a 14-way top available) and a dedicated putter compartment, this bag is stacked full of useful features that will make you stand out on the golf course.

Lastly, it is extremely well made and feels sturdy, just like every other Sun Mountain bag, plus it has plenty of room for whatever you want to bring with you, with the speakers sleekly built in near the top.

Sun Mountain Club Glider Meridian Travel Cover pictured at an airport

Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian Travel Cover

In our opinion, the ClubGlider Meridian is easily top of the tree when it comes to the  best golf travel bags . To begin with, the experience of airport queuing was made easier thanks to the bag having wheels and legs. This meant we didn't have to constantly keep picking it up and moving it a couple of yards to progress.

Just like the name suggests, it simply glides around the airport and takes away any stress from your back, arms and wrists when manoeuvring it. The legs are also very sturdy and the wheels roll easily.

The frame of the legs is housed in the hard back, which gives you peace of mind that your clubs are protected in a safe shell, whilst the padding around the top of the bag is very thick and should mean that there are no accidents with your driver and fairway woods.

How we test golf bags

Our testing process for all golf gear, let alone golf bags, is rigorous and comprehensive.

As far as our  methodology  goes, if we say we have reviewed a product, that means we have used it out on the golf course and put it through its paces in different conditions. We also endeavour to use all the features on the golf bag, for example, if the valuables pocket claims to be waterproof, we pour water on it to find out.

We should also say that manufacturers cannot pay for a good review because we tell things how we see it.

As far as the testing team goes, the Golf Monthly team is a mixture of ages and handicaps, and most are members at golf clubs so regularly put golf gear to the test in fun rounds as well as competitions.

How to choose a new golf bag

There are several key factors to consider when thinking about buying a golf bag and we have gone into those below...

Bag Type -  What kind of bag do you want? Stand bag? Cart model? Pencil bag? All of these types of bag have their positives and negatives and you should think about what you think is important to your golf.

Stand bags are built for those who want to carry their clubs around the golf course which means factors like comfort and weight are very important. Stand bags also have to offer waterproofing as well as strength and robustness. The two negatives most associated with stand bags are they require more effort to use, and they usually don't offer as much storage as cart bags.

However, that being said there are several stand bags above that can also be used on golf carts as well so maybe that is a way of killing two birds with one stone.

Cart bags are for those who want to use golf carts on the golf course. If this is you, then you'll likely want a stable model that is not only easy to lift and move around, but also one that sits firmly on your cart. One big advantage we have found is that cart bags also tend to offer ample storage for accessories, apparel, valuables and all the other golf paraphernalia you might need during the round.

The main negative is they are just bulkier and have to be taken off the cart before and after the round, whereas stand bags offer a bit more freedom.

Pencil bags are obviously very light and perfect for quick rounds but obviously limited in terms of storage.

Storage -  Speaking of storage, it is important because a good golf bag has to offer pockets for lots of different things as we mentioned above. Cart bags tend to have larger pockets because they are just that, larger. They also require less effort to use too which means players are able to carry more stuff with them if needed.

Stand bags on the other hand usually have enough to house the essentials.

However there are also golf bags out there that keep the game simple with only a few pockets so have a think about how much gear you want to take onto the golf course, and pick a bag accordingly.

Waterproofing -  If you live or golf somewhere that gets a lot of rain then this is a no-brainer really, get a bag that offers protection from the rain. Whereas if you don't, then this factor won't be as important. We should acknowledge that some models above are better than others in this regard because they have been designed as such.

Weight -  Across all types of bag, weight is important. Stand bags obviously have to be lightweight because players will be carrying them on their backs and shoulders all day, whilst cart bags should also have a degree of lightness too so they are easy to manoeuvre on the golf course, and from the car to the cart itself.

Thankfully most brands these days make lightweight models because not many players want to use a heavy bag.

Looks -  How do you want your golf bag to look? Whether it be a stand or cart model, brands try their best to create design aesthetics that stand out, or blend in on the golf course. Therefore have a think about which models you like the look of, or if some bags have different color schemes.

Budget -  Our final factor to consider is of course price. There are golf bags at every single price point so if you want to go for a premium cart model you can, or if you want a cheap stand bag you can also do that too.

What is the difference between a stand and cart bag?

The most notable difference when it comes to a stand and cart bag is the size and storage space, with a cart bag providing that little bit extra when it comes to storage. Another difference is the fact that a stand bag can be carried on the course, whereas a cart bag is usually used on an electric or push trolley.

Who makes the best golf bags?

When it comes to golf bags there are an array of companies that produce premium performing kit. Sun Mountain ranks amongst the best, as do the likes of Titleist, Ping, Callaway and Wilson.

This lightweight and chic sun hat is my new go-to vacation accessory

the sun travel bag

Every spring, I embark on a girls trip with my best friends from college. This year, we journeyed to the south for a long weekend on a small island in the Peach State, aka: good ole' Georgia. I had never been, and therefore, didn't know what to expect — but what I did know (and what I was looking forward to the most), was that it was going to be warm and sunny.

Needless to say, I made sure to pack anyone's go-to UV-protection essentials, including sunscreen and multiple pairs of sunglasses. Then, the opportunity arose to pack another item that would both shade me from harmful rays and, coincidentally, raise the bar on my southern charm style. Yes, I was given a cute sun hat to try, and little did I know it would be the star of all my outfits.

Furtalk Foldable Sun Hat

Beach Sun Straw Hat

Beach Sun Straw Hat

Colorways: 8 | Sizes: Medium-Large & Large-XL| Fabric: 90% paper straw, 10% polyester

I'm generally not a hat person. Other than my many years of softball playing (where a hat was crucial in the outfield), I never considered it as a cute accessory on me. While I was initially cautious about this floppy one, it surprised me with how stylish (and useful) it ended up being. Does that mean I should give the 15+ fun baseball caps I've accumulate over the years a try?

Why I like this sun hat

It's foldable (aka: extremely travel friendly).

I can't help but wax poetic about how flexible this hat is. As a chronic over packer (who recently had to physically sit on her carry-on to actually get it to close), I was quite relieved to find that this straw hat was capable of bending and rolling however I needed it to in order to shove it into my personal bag. Even better, it didn't unfold into an abnormal, broken shape once it was unpacked.

And although I didn't need it, the hat comes with a small instruction packet that shares how to "properly" fold it for packing. Honestly, I don't think you can get that part wrong if you tried. But if you like detailed directions for everything, Furtalk has you covered.

It's lightweight and chic

The sun hat has a few color varieties, but these mostly fall under your preferred ribbon color. I chose the white ribbon and beige base, which I knew would best match the outfits I put together beforehand. Other colorways include coffee brown and black bases, as well as black, white, brown and navy ribbons.

Whenever I see the word "straw" in the name of a fashion item, I immediately run away in fear of getting poked by uncomfortable fabrics. However, I had nothing to worry about with this hat, which felt soft and lightweight. Plus, no matter how long I had it on my head (hours, if you must know), it never flattened my hair underneath.

Finally, and most importantly, the wide brim gave me all the sun protection I needed. Despite loading up on sunscreen , my nose starting to look like Rudolph's by day two after some ill-timed tanning. So I knew the sun hat would be crucial during the remainder of my trip for preventing burns. It shaded my entire face and the upper part of my neck, keeping my tender skin from going full-on lobster shade.

the sun travel bag

What to consider

The hat comes with a strap that I find to be not only useless (the top of the hat is deep enough to stay secured), but also an eyesore compared to the accessory's chic look. The good news is that I was easily able to stuff it into the interior of the cap before putting it on to keep it out of sight.

Discovering that I'm a hat person wasn't on my 2024 bingo card, but it's a fact I'm welcoming with open arms — and into my spring and summer wardrobe. I highly recommend grabbing one of these before you next beach getaway.

Travel Bag

I borrowed this tote bag from my mother the night before my flight because I was in desperate need of a personal bag that was spacious but would also fit underneath my plane seat. This was a life-saver. It fit my laptop, Kindle, snacks, toiletry bag and so much more. One of my girlfriends was impressed by it so much, she purchased one in green before even returning home.
