Michael, our tour guide, was patient, friendly, and flexible with different age travelers and physical abilities by adjusting the activities for them. The Best of Korea tour's itinerary was very full. I think many of us enjoyed the itinerary and the experiences we had. I, particularly, enjoyed the various transportation methods which added to the experience. The War Memorial Hall of Korea museum is a big museum and had very important history. Most of us needed more time. I think this activity could of come at the beginning of the tour for us to have better knowledge of Korean history. On the tour's last day, after the museum, most of us thought there was going to be a group dinner. The tours I have been in the past had end of the tour dinner to say good bye and show our appreciation to the tour guide. It's nice to have a closure after spending a week together. We were disappointed that the day just ended after returning to the hotel. After the DMZ visit, we had a very nice lunch at a well known restaurant. This time could of have been a good opportunity to say good bye but I think due to limited time, food came out late, we didn't linger.

Our tour was 7 days of history, culture, camaraderie, feasts, and total immersion into Korea. Our tour director, Jay was very knowledgeable about his country, and he shared tidbits of information along the way. From the sights, the pre-set meals, the hotels, he did an excellent job of scheduling everything.

Our tour guide was Jay! He was super nice and funny (He wasn't exactly fluent in English but he spoke enough that we understood him just fine) We had a full group of 30 some people and a lot of people with different dietary needs. He did his best at each restaurant to make sure people had the right thing to eat. This tour wasn't perfect (I never expect any to be perfect) There were times we were left a little confused at a restaurant on how to cook the food or if we should even cook the food ourselves or wait for the staff to do it. I wish sometimes there would have been more clarity on things. Other than that though the tour was AMAZING. I loved all the different attractions we went to (So much that at different stops I wish we had all day to explore them when we only had like an hour but I get this is so we can fit in a lot of other different attractions) The food was amazing! I loved that it was all very authentic Korean food. The hotels were actually WAY better than I thought they would be. Probably some of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. The buffets for breakfast were amazing, they had a huge selection for both Korean food and what you would think of for more of a typical American/British breakfast (Which was nice for me to be able to break up a lot of Korea food as to not upset my stomach). The bus fit our huge group and still had some extra seats so it didn't feel stuffy. The best part of the tour was probably how quickly we got to know our group. We all different ages from all around the world but by the 2nd day we already felt like a family. There were people in the group that had traveled quite a bit before and said this was probably once of the nicest tours they have done especially for the price. Overall HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour. I will def be telling all of my friends and family if they ever want to go to Korea and be able to explore the country to take this tour.

Fantastic introduction to Korean food and culture. This trip had a great mix of walking, eating and chillin. If you’re an expert in Korean food, this may not be the best tour since it’s an intro with slightly more western tastes in mind, but we did try exotic things like murder hornet soju! Haha everything was good and the group was awesome. Everyone got along well, and the guide Michelle made the tour go very smoothly. Some days were >20k steps so def being comfortable walking shoes. One thing to remember is that the dmz visit is not a part of the tour, and in general the dmz is not available on Mondays… so if adding on, you’d have to stay until Tuesday or do it Sunday before tour starts.

I have way to many positive things to mention about this trip. First of all Jacob our tour guide went beyond being an amazing leader. The first few days by myself in in Seoul were overwhelming but having Jacob who knew what he was doing in the city made it feel like our group was part of the city, and we felt safe and comfortable walking the streets Jacob's amount of knowledge about the food , history and hidden gems made the days fly by. All accommodations and restaurants were fantastic. I absolutely recommend this tour. The only problem with the tour was that it ended too early. Because of this tour I am absolutely coming back to South Korea and hope Jacob can be my tour guide. Thanks for an amazing trip.

Wasting so much time for bilingual translations for the last 2 weeks. Tour guides and busses keep changes every 2-3 days with no reason even all buses goes the same direction. Not sure about Spanish side, but English was awful from all 4 guides we had throughout those 2 weeks. You better pick other companies who would provide a single bus with a single tour guide and ONLY with your language. You’re getting what you're paying for, 100%.

It was a great trip! We kept busy the entire time while also having some free time, had a lot of really great traditional Korean food at spots you would probably never find otherwise. And did a lot of activities! A lot of tours tend to be less focused on food/activity and more on museums/things to see. So it was nice to get one to keep me active! Everything was nicely planned and alternatives were always ready should there be bad weather.

We had a wonderful time on an excellent culture trip with a wonderful group,- really like a family. Our local tour guide Sam showed us a lot of cultural and historical sights with background information. He looked for the group like a father and showed us a really southful South Korea with a lot of heart and soul. Thank you, Sam. It was an amazing, unforgetable time for us and we will keep it in good memories. It was a pleasure to travel with all of you.

I really hate giving a bad review and liked Frank Shinn. He tried to do his best but his English was lacking. He did not explain much or give any information or interesting stories about places we were going or while on the way to. It seemed we were on our own and not led to the more interesting spots that were in the tour. The bus driver was excellent and felt very safe with his driving. Of the four hotels, the Commodore was the worst, bad food, and hot rooms.

Frank Shin was such a nice man but his English was not proficient enough to lead an English speaking tour. He worked very hard and went out of his way to be helpful, however, there was very little information given about each site we visited. The tour was quite disappointing because we were pretty much left on our own to navigate each stop. While he tried to give us information, it was all so basic and uninteresting. I was envious of other tours that had better guides who directed their guests to the best spots to see or take photos. We actually had a Spanish speaking tour guide, Cathy, who lead a family of five on our bus, and she was often directing them to the best places to go. I feel like we wasted a lot of time trying to figure out where to go. We’ve been on many other tours in Europe, Japan, and the US, in which we were very entertained with unusual or unknown anecdotes about the places we visited. I hate to leave a negative review, because I truly liked Frank as a person, but I would not recommend this tour to others. He was truly so sweet. Another thing about the tour that was unfortunate, was that on two occasions we were taken to lunch and had to pay out of pocket. We didn’t mind the added expense, but we did not have a choice of where or what to eat. We all had to go, and it was a set meal. I think they could have just added that to the price of the tour since there wasn’t an alternative. It was a hassle to have to wait to pay. Also, the timing of the trip was strange. We had a lot of time in some uninteresting places and had very brief times in fascinating places. Meaning we were often either bored or rushing around. The timing was just really off. Perhaps tour company is trying out new route? The last two nights of the tour, we got to the hotels so late at night that we had no choice but to just eat at the hotel instead of venturing into town to experience the local flavors. The hotel dinners were meh. For the most part, the hotel rooms and breakfasts were fine. However, do not expect to adjust temperature in your room. It is set, so we had some warm-ish nights. The Yeosu Ramada was the best. Newest, most comfortable. The worst was the Commodore Gyeongju, and it was pretty bad. Old. Worst breakfast. All in all, it wasn’t horrible, but I wouldn't book a Bamba/Tour Radar tour again. I am sorry to write such a critical review, but I hope this helps the tour company to improve. We spent a week in Seoul on our own, and I think we will travel independently the next time we visit South Korea.

He would always make sure we were ok and enjoying the tour ! So in summary, we had an unforgettable trip to both Tokyo & Seoul and if we travel in the future, I will definitely use Odynovo again ! Overall planning was great ( flights, hotel, pick up from the airport, guide). Few areas for improvement would be knowledgeable updates on tourist visa information, distance between locations were widely miscalculated and generally took an hour or more to get to our destinations between cities, the number of stops between drives was too frequent also causing delays, location of hotels wasn’t in the best locations (generally out of the way) and it would have been helpful to let us know we would be responsible for our tour guides lunch and snacks and that we would be taking lunch with them for all our lunches.

Most of this tour’s destination were just ok, only 2 locations were better and the duration of stay per location can use some improvements. For example, they gave us over 2 hours at one temple and not enough time at the national park. Most of our lunch times were pressed short, everything is in Korean so we have to google translate after waiting in lines after we find which place we want to order from. And it went on like that throughout our week. I read the itinerary when I signed up but their details were not very clear. We take at least 1 multi day tour if not more during our vacations and this tour did not compare at all. After this tour ended, we had a few extra days left and trained back to Busan, bought a day tour in Busan and it had so much more to see. The good parts of this tour was that we got to visit all the different villages and learned some of their history.

A trip of a lifetime !!. We had the most incredible tour guide Damien who has the most warm energy always willing to answer and help out. The intenary was amazing as well I feel that there was something for everyone. I only wished we would have done the cruise to Jeju island and spent more time there but of course, I think that the flight arrangement after it wasn't possible was prompt and very efficient. I enjoyed this trip and feel very lucky to have had the most incredible professional and fun tour guide who we will always remember and a lovely tour group.

Geograhy and environment.

South Korea is located at the south end of the Korean Peninsula, between the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. Separated from   Japan   by the Korean Strait and demarcated from the state of North Korea by Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), South Korea's terrain is a mix of flat lowlands and forested mountains. The coasts of South Korea are rocky and jagged, with thousands of islands (mostly inhabitable) scattered off the coastline.

Culture and customs

South Korea draws some traditions and customs from other neighboring countries in Asia, with a culture that stems from Confucianism. This system of philosophical and ethical teachings was introduced to South Korea in the 4 th century through Chinese scholars and was quickly embraced by the wider population until it officially became the state ideology in the early 1900s.

Confucianism emphasizes respect for aging, elders and ancestors, an intrinsic hierarchy that runs through work and social life, and upholds traditional family roles so you’ll often see families living together in one house.

During your travels around South Korea, you’ll also see plenty of traditions such as the act of bowing when greeting people, women wearing traditional dress (hanbok) and the practice of taekwondo (Korean martial arts). As well as ancient beliefs, new generations of South Koreans are embracing a modernized culture, one full of K-pop, Korean cosmetics and popular foods like kimchi and tteokbokki.

History and government

South Korea’s had an often turbulent history dating back to around 8000 BC when it was known as just Korea, but the country’s most impactful conflict began in the 1500s with the attempted Japanese invasion. Korea went on to become a Japanese colony in 1910 following its annexation of the Korean Empire, which ended in 1945 at the conclusion of World War II.

The country was then divided into two parts, the northern part which was protected by the Soviet Union and the southern part which was protected largely by the United States. Both the northern and southern parts of Korea officially became North and South Korea in 1948 when the two regions failed to agree on forming one, united government.

In 1950, North Korea set in motion the Korean War which was intended to unify the two countries under communism. But after much destruction to infrastructure and loss of human life, a cease-fire was called in 1953 with both countries signing the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement. The two countries have since agreed to work towards a final settlement (The Peace Treaty on the Korean Peninsula) to formally and officially end the Korean War.

South Korea now enjoys a fully prosperous economy with a capital economic standing similar to that of countries such as the United States, Japan, and various countries in Western Europe.

When is the best time to visit South Korea?

Autumn and spring are considered the optimal times to holiday in South Korea, as the extreme temperatures that are present during summer and winter can make travel uncomfortable at times. Korea Tour Planner is a travel agency that provides private tours of South Korea. It was founded by Yujin Yu and me, Jay Jung. I am also the main guide for our agency. Nice to meet you!

Our aim is to provide our guests with the most flexible, customized private tours of South Korea, a country of dynamic history. We understand that each traveler has different wants and needs. You’re the factor that makes each of our trips special. Our job is to be a facilitator between you and the place! Feel free to tell us what you require: special needs, a particular place of interest, your favorite dish, something off the beaten path, etc. If you’re interested in going to places that most other travel agencies don’t go, you’ve come to the right place.

With over 20 years of experience in the field, we are quite capable of accompanying you to your destination safely. In addition, we are experts in local culture and history. We are a registered tourism business certified under the Tourism Promotion Law.

Unlike big package deals offered by large agencies for a suspiciously low price, we will not take you shopping at commissioned gift shops or lock you into a fixed itinerary – a big waste of your time, in our opinion. Your visit wil remain personal and memorable.

It’s up to you! But we are always available to give suggestions and options, or course. Planning a smooth route from one place to the next takes skill, and that’s what we have. • Click on the gray flag on top – next to the name – this ‘marks’ the place as interesting. You can ‘unmark’ by clicking the flag again.
• Once you’re done, close the gallery frame by clicking the X on the top-right corner (or anywhere else outside the box).
• Keep searching the map for what looks interesting! 
• When you’re done looking through all the sites, you’ll see that the places you marked will have turned red on the map.
• Once you’re ready to reach us, click open the ‘Questions?’ section below.
• The places you’ve marked are already filled out on the inquiry form! Cool, no need to type out those weird names.

2 . Are Koreans allowed on trips?

Korea Travel Mate tours are primarily supported by the Korean government for foreigners. As a result, we will be unable to accommodate your Korean friends. However, we do occasionally organize tours in which Koreans can join. This information is always available in the signup form for each trip.

3 . How to pay for the trips?

Payment Options:

4 . Do you provide only weekend trips?

Korea Travel Mate trips are mainly operated on weekends either a day trip or an overnight trip. However, we occasionally run trips on weekdays as well.

5 . Are there overseas tours too?

About once or twice a year, Korea Travel Mate ventures out of Korea to take you on some great travel adventures to neighboring countries, such as Japan.

6. Who can join the trips?

Any foreigners who are living in Korea or traveling to/in Korea.

7. Do you provide private tour packages?

Yes, private tours can be organized and run while keeping Korea Travel Mate's policies and strategies in mind. As a result, if you have a community with whom you would like to have your own customized tour, you are only a phone call, email, or message away from getting it started.

8. Do you provide private rooms if needed?

Yes, on most of the trips private rooms can be provided for the extra cost that is mentioned in the signup form of the specific trip.

9. Do you provide Halal or Vegetarian/Vegan food?

We always do our best to provide food that suits the specific needs of each individual, however, please keep in mind that Halal meat is not provided on our travels since we travel to rural locations where Halal meat is not available, also it is not in our tour budget. If you require Halal, please consider yourself a vegetarian on our trips. Where feasible, we do our best to cater to everyone's needs but as it is always indicated in our signup forms "at some points you may be obliged to pick and choose from what is supplied".

Our Friendships group went for a short 4 day vacation and we are very happy with this tour and our English speaking tour guide Charlie is quite good and have superb patience, always on time. Elvis and Jina were great help in arranging for what chosen itineraries we wanted. The van used for us 9 pax were comfortable and clean. we had a great time in Korean Folk Village, Petit France, Nami Island, City tour of Seoul, Dongdaemun, Myeongdong,A wonderful Kimchi making and Hanbok wearing experience too. PLUS shopping haven in Donghwa and Lotte duty free.We stayed at Ibis Hotel in Myeongdong. Thank you for the great service! I was a little concerned about booking with a company I didn’t know, especially because I was going to the other side of the world! My concerns were gone within a few minutes of arrival and being met by the driver! Let me assure you, I loved this company and so will you. Jina, the manager, was very pleasant to work with and was able to book a 6 day tour for me last minute. She even took time to meet us .The price is reasonable and definitely worth every penny for what you are getting! All the hotels were great and had an amazing location. The one in Seoul was within walking distance to several things you can do like great original Korean restaurants, local shopping, mall, museums, and plenty more. The one in Busan was one block from the beach, surrounded by the main street, local restaurants, shops, and a huge mall with brand names. The transportation was provided in a modern van with air conditioner. All of our tours were accompanied by an English speaking guide. Our guide Yoon was the BEST EVER! He is so much fun and ALWAYS went above and beyond! Everything we asked for or had interest in doing, he took us to do! He was very attentive and answered all of our million questions and was very patient. Yoon didn’t rush us from place to place and took us to awesome local restaurants and made sure we tried the traditional Korean dishes. I can’t complement him enough. History is one thing that will not be left out. All of our drivers and guides were very knowledgeable in Korean history. They were very eager to share it with us and during the drive they pointed out interesting buildings and cool facts! I felt safe on this trip at all times. Oh and if you are wondering why Korea is spelled with a “C” on wowcoreatour.com then look it up online (has to do with history)  I had a great experience and would recommend wowcoreatour 100%. You will not be disappointed.

We usually do not use a tour operator but since we wanted to get outside of Seoul and the language barrier was going to be real for us – we decided to use one. S. Korea to issue travel ban on Haiti amid intensifying gang violence

SEOUL, April 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will impose a travel ban on Haiti next month due to increasing safety concerns as gang violence is escalating in the Caribbean nation, the foreign ministry has said.

The Level 4 travel advisory, the highest of the four-scale system, will go into effect Wednesday, and it will be applied to all areas of the island nation, the ministry said.

The ministry cited the security situation in Haiti that has recently worsened due to the deadly attacks led by a gang coalition and the leadership vacuum following its prime minister's resignation.

In March and early April, South Korea helped some 13 of its nationals in Haiti leave the country, with the cooperation of the Dominican Republic.

Separately, South Korea also warned against travel to Myanmar's Rakhine State on the west coast, as the armed conflict between the military and anti-military forces has been intensifying, the ministry said.

Since November 2023, South Korea has banned travel to parts of Myanmar's northeastern regions over the political unrest.

North Korea Unveils Supersonic Missile in Display of Military Might

Kim jong un's new strategic deterrent.

According to state-controlled media, the test aimed to verify the technical specifications and reliability of a hypersonic gliding warhead equipped as the missile's payload. However, the actual performance details, such as the achieved speed, remain undisclosed, leaving room for speculation and doubt.

The launch was reportedly aimed at demonstrating a controlled trajectory and speed by limiting the warhead's range to approximately 621 miles and reaching an altitude of 62.7 miles before separating and continuing its glide to the target.

Contrasting views came from the Japanese Coast Guard and the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, who reported shorter travel distances and concluded that the warhead ultimately landed in the Sea of Japan. This discrepancy highlights the challenge of verifying claims from North Korea's tightly controlled information sources.

This occasion marks the third instance of North Korea announcing a type of hypersonic weapon. The first and second weapons, Hwasong-8 and Hwasong-12Na(B) were introduced on September 14, 2021, and July 26, 2023, respectively, showcasing a progressive development in this advanced armament category.

The latest test also marks a significant step in combining solid-fuel rockets with ballistic missiles equipped with maneuverable reentry vehicles (MaRV), which would offer strategic advantages by reducing launch preparation times and improving target precision.

Despite these advancements, the current range of North Korea's missiles falls short of posing a direct threat to U.S. territories such as Guam. Experts remain skeptical that North Korea's missiles, with actual combat loads, could achieve the necessary range to be considered a formal threat.

The main development this morning was the rise in the number of people killed in a Russian strike on Odesa yesterday to five.

At least two people have been killed in another Russian strike, this time targeting the northeastern city of Kharkiv, local officials say.

Six more have been wounded in the attack, which Governor Oleh Synehubov says was carried out using guided bombs, according to preliminary information.

The attack damaged a residential building in one of the city districts, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. 

Emergency services are on the scene, local officials say.

Yesterday, a woman was reportedly injured after a "series of explosions" hit the city, according to the mayor.

Russia denies targeting civilians in the war that is now in its third year.

As we reported yesterday, a Russian missile attack targeted an educational institution in a popular seafront park in the Black Sea port of Odesa.

The number of victims from that airstrike has risen, with five people now reported to have died. 

Local officials had initially said four were killed.

Regional governor Oleh Kiper said in addition to those killed in the attack, one man died after suffering a stroke attributed to the strike.

Another 32 are said to be injured, eight of whom seriously - including a four-year-old child.

A pregnant woman and another child are also among the injured.

"Monsters, beasts, savages, scum, I don't know what else to say," Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov said.

"People are going for a walk by the sea and they are shooting and killing."

Video footage, which could not be immediately verified, showed people receiving treatment on the street alongside pools of blood. 

One photo showed officials examining part of a missile.

Ukrainian navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said the strike was conducted by an Iskander-M ballistic missile with a cluster warhead.

Odesa has been a frequent target of Russian missile and drone attacks, particular port infrastructure.

Yesterday a Russian attack on the port city of Odesa killed at least four people, while dramatic footage showed a massive education facility ablaze in the aftermath. 

Here are the other key events to get you up to speed on from the past 24 hours:

• More than 30 Ukrainian conscripts have died while trying to cross the border illegally to avoid mobilisation, a Ukrainian official said;
• The Duchess of Edinburgh met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ukraine, in what marks the first visit to the country by a member of the Royal Family since the war begin;
• Debris recovered from a missile that landed in the Ukrainian region of Kharkiv on 2 January was North Korean, according to the United Nations;
• NATO secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg visited Kyiv for a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy;
• In a joint news conference, Mr Stoltenberg said NATO allies had "not delivered" on their military aid pledges to Ukraine in recent months, saying that "serious delays" had led to negative consequences on the battlefield;
• Mr Zelenskyy also called for the delivery of Western weapons to Kyiv's troops to be sped up;
• Russia's defence ministry claimed its forces have taken control of the village of Semenivka in the eastern Donetsk region;
• European Council president Charles Michel said the Russian invasion of Ukraine has given "new impetus" to calls for the EU to be enlarged beyond the 27 members;
• Germany's public prosecutor's office said it was assessing whether a political motive was behind the killing of two Ukrainian soldiers in Murnau.

As we reported a short time ago, the Duchess of Edinburgh has met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ukraine, in what marks the first visit to the country by a member of the Royal Family since the war begin.

Sophie met the Ukrainian president and first lady Olena Zelenska and delivered a message to them on behalf of the King, Buckingham Palace said.

Throughout the day, we've been reporting on a Russian attack on the city of Odesa in Ukraine, which has killed at least four people. 

These images show a burning educational institution building, which was struck. 

Airline Finnair has said it is pausing flights to Tartu in eastern Estonia for the next month, due to GPS disturbances in the area.

"Finnair will suspend its daily flights to Tartu, Estonia, from 29 April to 31 May, so that an alternative approach solution that does not require a GPS signal can be put in place at Tartu Airport," the Finnish airline said in a statement.

Finnair last week had to divert two flights back to Helsinki after GPS interference prevented the approach to Tartu airport, although a spokesperson said the company did not now where the interference came from.

However, Tallinn seems certain as where the issues are originating. 

"It is a fact that Russia affects GPS devices in our region’s airspace," Estonia's foreign minister said via a spokesperson.

Margus Tsahkna added that Estonia will raise the issue of GPS interference with its neighbours, and intends to discuss it with the EU and NATO. 

GPS jamming and spoofing have grown worse in eastern Europe, the Black Sea and the Middle East, all areas close to conflict zones, according to industry group OpsGroup. 

More than 30 Ukrainian conscripts have died while trying to cross the border illegally to avoid mobilisation, a Ukrainian official has said.

Andriy Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service,  told Ukrinform that some men are prepared to pay "large sums" of money to groups promising to smuggle them across the border safely.

"Then they are faced with the fact that the route runs along a mountain river," he said.

Many conscripts have lost their lives after realising they didn't have the strength to swim the river, Mr Demchenko added.

"In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, about 30 people have died trying to cross the border illegally," he said.

Such attempts occur "every day", he said.

For context: Ukraine has been under martial law since the Russian invasion in February 2022.

It lets draft officers call up men of a certain age to fight on the front line.

In April, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed off a new law lowering the age of draft-eligible men from 27 to 25, in a bid to boost troop numbers in his depleted ranks.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ukraine, in what marks the first visit to the country by a member of the Royal Family since the war begin.

Her visit is aimed at demonstrating "solidarity with the women, men and children impacted by the war and in a continuation of her work to champion survivors of conflict-related sexual violence", the palace said.

Three women and a man have died after a Russian attack on Odesa.

A further 28 people have been injured, including two children aged five and 16. A pregnant woman has also been hurt.
