19 Best Things To Do in Branson

Updated July 12, 2023

Silver Dollar City Silver Dollar City

One of the best amusement parks in the U.S. , Silver Dollar City is a unique theme park that combines both thrilling rides and entertainment, as it embraces a down-home, late 19th-century vibe. Even while visitors scream their heads off on the newest ride, they'll still feel like they've been transported to the 1880s. Attractions like the Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train, which travels through Ozarks country, and the signature Fire-In-The-Hole roller coaster, an indoor coaster that rides through "town" and across a fiery bridge, help foster the old-time feeling. With about 100 craftspeople demonstrating heritage crafts, everything from blacksmithing to taffy pulling, visitors get a lesson in 1800s life. Travelers can even take home souvenirs made by the craftspeople, from lye soap to blown glass, along with homemade candies and candles. The food at Silver Dollar City centers around down-home favorites, including buffets and skillet meals. Along with its rides and shops, Silver Dollar City is known for its shows, which range from bluegrass pickers to gospel performers to musicals.

Although Silver Dollar City is family-friendly, some say that the park is best for kids who are 36 inches or taller since there's a height requirement for most rides. Recent travelers also mentioned the hills inside the park, recommending that future visitors be prepared to walk. Some also warned that opening weekend was extremely busy with traffic and ride lines and it's best to avoid. If you don't want to purchase snacks in the park, pack your own; Silver Dollar City allows visitors to bring in food and nonalcoholic beverages.

Sight & Sound Theatres Sight & Sound Theatres

The 2,000-seat Sight & Sound Theatres – with locations both in Branson and Lancaster, Pennsylvania – is one of the top things to do in Branson. The theater stages shows with Biblical themes and utilizes real animals in its production along with 50 actors on a 300-foot stage. Some of the recent musicals include "Jesus" and "Miracle of Christmas." Billing itself as family-friendly, the theater even has a glass-encased family room, which allows parents to care for young children and watch the performance on a TV without serving as a distraction to the audience.

But it's not just families that enjoyed the choreography and elaborately costumed performances. Reviewers of all ages consistently described the shows as "amazing," praising the high level of talent, as well as the special effects and overall atmosphere. Thanks to the stadium-style seating, many visitors said there's not a bad seat in the house (though some recommended booking a seat in the back half of the theater in the center section for the best view).

Titanic Museum Titanic Museum

When visitors enter the Titanic Museum, which is built to look like the actual ship, they're given a boarding pass with a real Titanic passenger's name on it. At the end of the self-guided tour – which winds through a recreated grand staircase and past more than 400 artifacts preserved from the sunken vessel – visitors will find out if the passenger on their ticket survived the infamous sinking. Visitors can also sit in a real lifeboat and dip their hands into 28-degree Fahrenheit water (the temperature of the ocean on that fateful night).

Recent visitors said the experience, though a bit pricey, was mostly worth the hefty admission fee. Parents, in particular, said their kids enjoyed the various interactive experiences. Though parents of younger kids advised it was a bit boring for little children. Most said the experience honored those lost and told the story of the Titanic. However, some wished there more artifacts from the actual ship on display.

In addition to water recreation, Table Rock Lake offers an amazing backdrop to more than 100 resorts at the lake (including campgrounds).

Recent travelers enjoyed shopping at the center, as well as eating at its restaurants, including Cantina Laredo and White River Fish House. More adventurous visitors highly recommended Parakeet Pete's Waterfront Zipline, which allows visitors to zip line across the lake. The light and water show comes highly recommended.

The Butterfly Palace & Rainforest Adventure The Butterfly Palace & Rainforest Adventure

The Butterfly Palace houses an exotic aviary with more than 1,000 butterflies representing as many as 60 species that live in the rainforest. Each visitor is given a filled nectar flower to entice the hungry butterflies; visitors will delight when a butterfly chooses them to roost and feed. The aviary has new butterflies emerging daily, so don't miss a butterfly release. In addition to the live butterflies, travelers can learn about the monarch's migration in 3D at the Rainforest Theater. Another resource for learning, the Living Rainforest Science Center features more than 25 reptiles and amphibians from the rainforest and offers live animal encounters. Meanwhile, the Banyan Tree Bungee Adventure and the Emerald Forest Mirror Maze are indoor active areas for all that navigate nature-inspired fun zones. The Butterfly Palace suggests wearing bright colors, especially red, if visitors want to attract butterflies to land on them. Additionally, the aviary is warm and humid year-round for the comfort of the butterflies, so it's important to dress in layers.

According to recent visitors, the aviary is relaxing (in part thanks to the tranquil music that plays in the background) and the butterflies are beautiful. Reviewers advised future visitors to call ahead and inquire when the newly emerged butterflies would be released for the day. Travelers also suggested watching the educational videos that play in the Rainforest Theater at the beginning of your visit so you can fully appreciate the butterflies.

Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery free

The Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery is a trout-rearing facility operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Travelers can tour the hatchery, which produces between 350,000 to 400,000 pounds of rainbow and brown trout annually. Visitors can also take a hike on one of four trails – which provide fishing access to Lake Taneycomo – pack a picnic to enjoy at the picnic tables and take a peek at the hatchery's conservation center.

Families traveling with kids said they enjoyed feeding the fish, but they suggested future visitors bring quarters to pay for the fish food and a cup to collect the fish food. Others highly recommended making time to view the video in the visitor center and speak to the friendly and knowledgeable docents.

Runaway Mountain Coaster Runaway Mountain Coaster

This popular alpine coaster whizzes through a forested hillside reaching speeds up to 30 mph on a specially designed track. Though if that's a tad too daring, a manual brake can keep speeds in check as each driver glides down almost 5,000 feet of track, complete with two horizontal loops and lots of twists and turns. The first mountain coaster in the Ozarks is also the longest in Branson, with a length of almost a mile.

Several recent visitors reported going on multiple rides. Many reviewers described it as a thrill ride, but assured it was still suitable for little kids. Quite a few travelers said it was the highlight of their Branson trip.

Along with a lazy river, and a 70-degree, 40-foot speed slide that takes the brave 26 feet per second, White Water Branson also contains a 500,000-gallon wave pool among its 13 acres. Families with young children will be pleased to hear there's also an area just for little swimmers called Coconut Cove.

Most travelers say White Water Branson afforded a great time, while others felt the park's attractions were average when compared to other water parks. To avoid wait times, reviewers recommend arriving to the attraction when it opens in the morning.

Promised Land Zoo Promised Land Zoo

Branson's Promised Land Zoo is the only zoo in Branson and houses many rescue animals across its 75-acre property. Among its critters are sloths, lemurs and reptiles. Admission also includes the drive-thru safari with antelopes, zebras, giraffes, camels and more. Like the rest of Branson, the zoo gets into the Christmas spirit and hosts a drive-thru lights display in November and December.

There are several ticket options for visitors to consider. Reviewers recommended purchasing the VIP Animal Adventure ticket, which costs about $55 for visitors ages 13 and older and $42 for children ages 2 to 12. With the VIP experience, visitors have the chance to feed, hold and interact with several of the zoo's creatures, including reptiles. Other included experiences range from a guided tram tour to a guided foot safari. Reviewers say the interaction with the zoo's animals make the pricey ticket well worth the money. Older visitors advised the foot safari was hard to navigate.

Branson Scenic Railway Branson Scenic Railway

All aboard the Ozark Zephyr for a memorable train ride on the Branson Scenic Railway. You'll depart from the historic depot (which dates back to 1905) in downtown Branson. A winding, 40-mile round-trip ride rolls through the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. November and December are particularly popular times since the train transforms into The Polar Express, riffing off the beloved children's book of the same name. The experience includes a live reading of the book, hot cocoa for all and a visit from Santa Claus.

Recent visitors said the train ride was enjoyable and that they learned a few things along the way about the towns that used to lie along the tracks. Others said that there wasn't an abundance of picturesque scenery to enjoy during the trip. Some parents mentioned their kids loved the Polar Express experience, while others felt it was rushed and chaotic.

College of the Ozarks College of the Ozarks free

A college visit might not usually be on a traveler's must-do list, but the College of the Ozarks is unique. Nicknamed "Hard Work U," this college allows students to graduate debt-free if they work campus jobs while they attend. In addition to being an innovative educational institution, the campus also offers travelers a handful of interesting attractions, including the Ralph Foster Museum, which tells the history of the Ozarks, Edwards Mill, which grinds whole-grain flour and meal that visitors can purchase, and the Stained Glass and Candle Shop with student-made wares for sale.

Travelers highly recommend visitors try a meal at Dobyns Dining Hall at the Keeter Center, saying the food was delicious and the student employees were kind and professional. The homemade ice cream, made from the fresh milk at the on-campus W. Alton Jones Dairy, is another big hit among recent visitors.

Talking Rocks Cavern Talking Rocks Cavern

If you're visiting Branson in the summer and are on the hunt for a cool escape, consider Talking Rocks Cavern, which maintains a comfortable 63-degree Fahrenheit temperature year-round. With an hourlong guided tour, visitors use concrete walkways and stairs to view the Talking Rock's vertical cave formations and learn about its geology. In addition to the underground tour, there are a variety of activities above ground, including a nature trail that leads to a lookout tower, a mini golf course, a shaded picnic area, family games and a SpeleoBox, which simulates what it's like to crawl through narrow cave passages.

Recent visitors enjoyed their experience in the Talking Rocks Cavern and found the guides knowledgeable and friendly. Most reviewers suggested wearing shoes with good traction since the cave is wet. Additionally, the caverns appealed to a wide range of travelers, from kids and teens to older adults. However, if you have mobility limitations, past visitors said you should reconsider the tour.

Dolly Parton's Stampede Dolly Parton's Stampede

Dolly Parton might be from the hills of Tennessee, but she has made a home for entertainment at her 35,000-square-foot Branson theater. During the show, 32 horses are paired with expert riders to entertain audiences with tricks and jumps. The show isn't all horsing around – a team of rescue dogs compete in an agility course and for the audience's heart. While horses and dogs take top billing, the show features other animal acts, such as pigs, buffalo and even a dancing chicken. For dinner, attendees enjoy a four-course meal. Though regular shows run from late February until mid-October, Dolly Parton's Stampede also hosts a Christmas show. Plan to arrive early if you'd like to stroll along the Horse Walk to meet some of the horses featured in the performance.

Reviewers said they enjoyed the show and that the animals kept little kids and teens entertained. However, reviews of the food were more mixed: some visitors loved the dishes served, while others were underwhelmed with the quality.

The attraction offers 19 unique features to explore from the air, underground and strapped into a harness. Highlights include a zip line course, a ropes course, underground tunnels, slides, a climbing wall and a repurposed water tower that's been outfitted with chain ladders and climbing nets.

Recent visitors said Fritz's Adventure offered lots to do and is worth the price of admission. Additionally, some mentioned the food served at the on-site cafe was tasty and priced fairly. Several families said little kids had fun and gained confidence on the obstacles.

The 15 Best Things to Do in Branson, Missouri

tourism in branson mo

Branson’s natural beauty and effortless Ozark hospitality have welcomed travelers for more than a century, when visitors first arrived seeking to experience the peaceful scene described in Harold Bell Wright’s 1907 novel, "The Shepherd of the Hills." Much has changed since those early frontier days, as the city has grown into an entertainment destination that lays claim to famed amusement parks, more than 100 live shows daily, and interactive museums around every corner.

Despite being the "Live Entertainment Capital of the World," Branson has managed to retain its Ozark charm and beauty, with the town's pristine backdrop of verdant hills and sparkling lakes promising adventure before and after the curtain calls.

From the family-friendly nightlife scene at Branson Landing that defies generational mores to heart-pounding adventures on Table Rock Lake—and yes, so many live shows—here are the best things to do in Branson, Missouri.

Ride the Rollercoasters at Silver Dollar City

It’s not only thrill rides that attract visitors to this 100-acre park—although it is home to some truly great ones, including “The Time Traveler” (the world’s fastest, steepest, and tallest spinning coaster) and “Outlaw Run” (the world’s first and only wooden coaster to feature a double barrel roll). There are 100 resident craftsmen that set up shop throughout Silver Dollar City , demonstrating everything from glass blowing to candy making. Live performances are held on one of the 12 stage venues or on the streets, where the smell of roasting succotash fills the air. The holidays are particularly spectacular at this 1880s theme park, but seasonal festivals—like the Bluegrass and BBQ Festival—keep things exciting throughout the year.

Get Out on At Least One of the Three Lakes

Branson’s three sparkling lakes stay warm enough year-round to avoid a full freeze, meaning aquatic adventures take place on all three lakes throughout the entire year. Showboat Branson Belle offers the easiest way to get out on the water without a boating license; transforming into a floating stage on Table Rock Lake, it features live performances that take place during an elaborate three-course meal. Meanwhile, boat rentals (speed, fishing, pontoon, etc.) and guided services are offered on the commercial docks along Lake Taneycomo and Bull Shoals Lake, where local operators can help arrange fishing permits, provide fishing gear , and point out the best spots to try to land one of the region’s famed 50-pound stripers.

Visit the Titanic Museum Attraction

The immersive experience begins upon arrival at the Titanic Museum Attraction, when visitors are given a boarding pass with the name of a real passenger or crew member who sailed on the RMS Titanic. Throughout the roughly two-hour, self-guided tour, you'll stroll the replicated halls, galleys, and cabins, viewing the museum’s more than 400 artifacts before uncovering your passenger’s fate in the memorial room. Along the way, you'll have the chance to send an SOS signal, listen to stories while sitting in an actual size lifeboat, try to balance on the sloping decks of the ship’s descending stern, and even hold your hands beneath 28-degree water.

See a Live Show

Branson Convention and Visitors Bureau / Flickr

There are upwards of 100 shows for visitors to choose from on any given day in Branson, which is exactly why it’s become known as the Live Entertainment Capital of the World. Shows at the Sight and Sound Theatre feature Biblical performances of epic proportions (i.e., trained animals take the stage alongside award-winning actors), while The Clay Cooper Theatre plays home to six incredibly skilled, Ozark-raised siblings—The Haygoods—who often perform to a sold-out crowd. There are shows for kids ( Amazing Pets ) and shows that serve food ( Dolly Parton’s Stampede Dinner Attraction )—but no matter which one you check out, each is rated family-friendly, even Russian-born comedian Yakov Smirnoff ’s hilarious standup-up comedy acts.

Look Out from Inspiration Tower at Shepherd of the Hills

This 230-foot tower rises above the same soil that inspired Harold Bell Wright’s 1907 novel, The "Shepherd of the Hills" (which became the first novel to sell one million copies in the U.S.). The Shepherd of the Hills today is a family entertainment park with an adventure park, historic farm, and live performance venue all rolled into one stunning destination. Visitors board a glass elevator to reach the top of Inspiration Tower, where they can gaze out on the raw beauty of the Ozarks before having the option of taking the Vigilante Extreme ZipRider zipline to get back down to ground level. Dinner theater shows run throughout the year, but guests should book at least five months in advance to score tickets to the popular holiday shows.

Eat Blackberry Cobbler

Farmhouse Restaurant / Facebook

In pure Ozark tradition, the best blackberry cobblers are made with local berries that stew and bubble in their pot over an open fire, just like the early settlers used to make it. Today, visitors to Branson will find countless renditions of this Ozark staple—check out the scratch-made cobbler at Gettin’ Basted or the free nightly cobbler for guests of the Savannah House Hotel . But it’s the cobbler at The Farmhouse Restaurant that holds the reputation—and the awards—as the best in town. The restaurant's version is near perfection as it is, but when served à la mode with either cinnamon or vanilla ice cream, it’s easy to see why visitors travel for miles just for a scoop of this sweet treat.

Walk the Branson Landing Boardwalk

Branson Landing is a one-stop shop for dining, shopping, and entertainment, and it’s become a family-friendly nightlife location, where distilleries and breweries share pedestrian traffic with candy shops and toy stores. The paved boardwalk extends 1.5 miles from the shops along Lake Taneycomo, offering a natural escape from the storefronts and restaurants. Guests can catch views of Canadian geese, ducks, or even bald eagles on the short urban hike, with plenty of time to make it back in time for the spectacular fountain show back at Branson Landing.

Spend the Night at The Keeter Center

This 15-suite hotel is set on the campus of College of the Ozarks (a.k.a. Hard Work U), where a tuition-free policy allows students to work for their education at any of the more than 100 campus jobs or industries. The lodge provides onsite training for College of the Ozarks students who handle the experience from check-in to check-out. In-room amenities include complimentary treats and beverages, like fresh milk from the W. Alton Jones Campus Dairy and homemade cookies at turndown (baked fresh by the culinary arts students). Check out the gift shop to bring home more Hard Work U finds—think handmade candles or freshly milled and mixed waffle mix—and support these students on their path toward higher education.

Take the Lantern Tour at Marvel Cave

Marvel Cave has been welcoming visitors into its cavernous limestone halls since 1894, when it opened as the first tourist attraction in Branson. In fact, it was the cave that eventually led to the inception of Silver Dollar City, as long lines of visitors needed entertainment during their wait to enter the cave. Marvel Cave today lies beneath the theme park and remains one of the deepest caves in the state. Admission during the day is complimentary with admission to Silver Dollar City, except for the last tour of the day (The Lantern Light Tour), which costs an additional $16 per person. The tour books up quickly, and guests are guided by the light of a lantern throughout this 90-minute experience, during which you'll hear stories and see rooms only told and displayed on this tour.

Ride the Ozark Zephyr

The Branson Scenic Railway dates back to 1902 when the first spike was placed. Over the years, the railroad has brought in both goods and tourists to Branson, but today it operates as a leisure journey through the Ozark Mountains. Guests boarding the Ozark Zephyr step back in time on the vintage passenger train for daytime excursions (March through November), dinner train experiences (Saturdays from April through October), and “The Polar Express” (after dark during the months of November and December). The Polar Express journey sells out almost immediately after tickets are released at midnight in April of the same year, but the lucky ticket holders will be in for a truly memorable hour-and-a-half experience.

Shop at Dicks 5 & 10

If it feels like stepping back in time when entering this family-owned shop, it’s because that’s exactly what’s happening. Dick’s 5 & 10 is one of the last remaining five-and-dime stores in operation, which opened in 1961 by Dick Hartley and is currently run by his son and son-in-law. The duo keeps the old-timey experience authentic with nostalgic toys, sodas, and candies, as well as kitschy gifts and practical home goods. Plan at least an hour to wander through the well-stocked aisles of this downtown shop, and, in true five-and-dime fashion, make sure to pick up a few items that you never knew you needed.

Embrace Your Inner Child at the World’s Largest Toy Museum

There are actually eight separate museums throughout the two buildings that comprise this expansive complex. Guests are greeted by two life-sized toy soldiers upon arrival, and then encouraged to explore and, yes, play among the interactive exhibits within the museum (i.e., Hot Wheels track, Lincoln Logs, etc.). Walls of Barbie dolls and Pez dispensers guide the self-guided pathways through the museum’s treasures, which include no less than one million toys. Don’t miss the collection of McDonald’s happy meal toys that range from the 19th century to the present day.

Have Some Barbecue

Gettin' Basted / Facebook

Like most things in Branson, barbecue in this entertaining town is all about the experience. Branson barbecue is a mix of Southern styles that come together on one heaping tray of flavor, with sauces and rubs sitting side-by-side. Big D’s BBQ has the awards to prove it’s the local favorite; it's best-known for its Texas-style brisket and Memphis-style ribs, seasoned in a house-made blend of dry rubs which you can bring home from the gift shop. Gettin’ Basted claims to have pioneered Ozark-style barbecue, which is cooked hot and fast over live wood coals in 55-gallon barrels. The pulled pork is tender and smoky (and especially good on the barbecue nachos), and the poblano creamed corn brulée tastes every bit as exciting as it sounds.

Play a Round of Mini-Golf

Mini-golf is far from a pastime in Branson: it’s a big deal in this entertainment-crazed town. There are plenty of options, from glow-in-the-dark courses open late into the evening to a Big Foot-themed course that traverses frozen tundra and a research lab. The animatronics at Grand Country’s Farm Mini Golf course immerses putters in the daily life of a whimsical farm, while the Cave Country Mini Golf Course at Talking Rocks Cavern puts an educational spin on the sport as visitors navigate sinkholes and waterfalls.

Ride the Branson Wheel

This 240-passenger Ferris wheel arrived in The Track Family Fun Park in 2016 after a very successful stint on Chicago’s Navy Pier. From the top of the wheel, passengers can see the whole town below and take in the sights of the lush Ozark landscape. At night, the Ferris wheel illuminates the sky with more than 16,000 LED lights that dance and move along to a five-minute choreographed musical routine (played throughout Track 4, and also on 90.9 FM) on the hour every hour after dark. Pro tip: Book your ride just before dusk to see the lights flicker on throughout town, and then make your way to the Fuel Fresh American Grill to sit back with a funnel cake or a cold beer and watch the wheel’s spectacular performance.

Branson shines brightest during the holidays, when the entire town goes crazy for Christmas. Whether you celebrate or not, it’s hard to pass up the ingenuity and the sheer number of sparkling lights that go into making the holidays magical in the Ozarks.

Even though the landscape is raw and inviting for outdoor enthusiasts, Branson will always be best known for its live entertainment.

Many visitors come to Branson by tour bus, and, although the free Downtown Trolley and shuttles/taxis make it possible to navigate the town sans car, there is definitely more freedom for exploration if you have your own set of wheels.

Shows often take place throughout the day and well into the night.

Other live performances include acrobats, illusionists, tribute shows, variety acts, and religious theater. For visiting during the peak summer season, it's recommended to browse online and purchase tickets ahead of any visit.

Marvel Cave

Silver Dollar City is a massive amusement park and entertainment space located between Branson and West Branson. The park encompasses over 100 acres and features an intricate 1880s theme with over 40 different rides and attractions.

Able to facilitate large events, Silver Dollar City is also home to seven world-class festivals throughout the year, including the annual Harvest Festival .

Interest in the area first began with the discovery of what was quickly named Marvel Cave . The deep wonders of the cave eventually generated aboveground attractions as well, leading to a thematic mining town complete with costumed characters and amusement rides . As interest grew further, roller coasters and first-class facilities were added to the mix.

Today, with the cost of admission, guests are granted guided entry into Marvel Cave . Whether it's part of the fun at Silver Dollar City, or the reason to visit, Marvel Cave still stands as the cave that helped build Branson into what it is today.

Lakeside Forest spans more than 140 acres, with hiking trails lining its interior, ranging from smooth pathways to extensive staircases. Many of these trails lead to small underground caves, which are fun and safe to explore.

Fun Summer Things to do in Branson MO

Branson, Missouri , is best known for live music and family fun. The seemingly endless entertainment district on Missouri Highway 76 has a show to suit every musical taste, along with sidesplitting comedy performances, and is dotted with family fun parks with go-karts and miniature golf. Paired with the backdrop of the Ozark Mountains, Branson has always had a wholesome, down-home vibe that draws summer visitors.

Although Branson earns its nickname “Live Music Capital of the World,” it is more than music shows. Downtown Branson might be “Lights, Camera, Action!” but there are tons of opportunities to experience outdoor fun. A popular vacation spot since the 1950s, part of Branson's charm is that anyone can enjoy this destination. It's an ideal family and multi-gen group trip since there are activities to make everyone happy, from grandparents to the smallest tots. Branson Landing is a newer, more modern area of Branson that sits along the White River and has many choices for shopping and dining that may appeal to couples and other adult-only groups.

Summer is a perfect time to visit Branson. The weather is warm and suited for outdoor activities, and there are plenty of indoor choices if the July and August heat and humidity are too much. January through March is considered the Branson off-season, with many musical acts closing up shop. Summer visitors will find everything open and the fun in full swing.

If you've been to – and enjoyed – Pigeon Forge, Tennessee , you'll likely enjoy Branson. The entertainment offerings and general vibe are very similar.

Sea the Sea at the Aquarium at the Boardwalk

Even though Branson is entirely landlocked, there's an opportunity to learn about marine life. The aquarium's entrance is graced with a larger-than-life, sparkly octopus, so the building is hard to miss. The aquarium has large tanks full of colorful fish, some with crawl-through spaces for kids so they can be in the center of the action, a touch pool, a 5D “submarine” ride, and kids' play/climbing areas.

This is a solid indoor time filler for travel groups with younger kids. It is comparable to the SEALIFE Aquariums often found in malls and other urban areas.

Titanic Branson

Titanic Branson's exterior is a replica of the ill-fated ship, which may prompt the question, “Why a museum dedicated to the Titanic in…Missouri?” The museum is owned by John Joslyn, who was part of a 1987 undersea mission to explore the ship's remains. Joslyn also owns a sister Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Although a museum dedicated to the Titanic may seem out of step with the other attractions in Branson, it is very well done and easily one of the top places to see in town.

The museum contains over 400 verified artifacts, including dinnerware and deck furniture. The museum is very interactive – upon entrance, visitors will get a card with a picture of an actual RMS Titanic passenger and will find out at the end of their visit whether their passenger survived the voyage. There's an exhibit that mimics the slant of the ship at various points during the sinking, and a pool of frigid water allows guests to put their hands in as they imagine what it would be like to be fully immersed in the icy North Atlantic. One gallery illustrates the differences between the experiences of first class, second class, and steerage passengers, and another is dedicated to the onboard musicians.

Buy tickets in advance as the museum often reaches capacity.

Branson is the newest city to offer Pink Jeep Tours, a staple in Sedona and the Grand Canyon for years. Choose from a handful of two and three-hour tours showcasing Branson's downtown attractions and more protected natural areas. The three-hour “Best of Branson Sunset Tour” includes history, off-roading, and a private spot atop Baird Mountain to see the sunset over Table Rock Lake. The guides are very knowledgeable about the area, and if you plan to participate in water activities on Table Rock Lake or Lake Taneycomo, this is an excellent opportunity to ask questions of an expert. There are also lots of spots around the lake to grab a drink and listen to music, so if you're interested, this tour is a great way to get the lay of the land.

None of Branson's currently listed Pink Jeep Tours allow kids under two or pregnant women.

Go Snow Tubing

Yes, really. You can snow tube in Branson during summer. Branson is home to the world’s largest synthetic snow tubing run . Snowflex is a high-performance polymer snow substitute that lets you enjoy winter fun all year long. Timed one-hour tickets let you whiz down the snow tube run as many times as you can until your allotted time expires.

There are also two onsite ziplining/sky bridge runs as well as a freefall option. Combo tickets that allow visitors to experience both the zipline course and an hour’s worth of snow tubing are also available.

Explore the Ozarks via Mountain Coaster

Whizzing down the mountain in one of Branson's three mountain coasters is a fun way to get your adrenaline fix without spending an entire day at an amusement park. The riders can control the speed of their car with a hand brake and choose between taking the plunge with one or two riders. There are some age/height/weight restrictions on how this is configured, so make sure you read up on requirements beforehand if you plan to go with children.

Branson's three mountain coasters are:

  • Runaway Mountain Coaster at Branson Mountain Adventure Park (ziplining and gem mining are also available);
  • The Branson Coaster;
  • Copperhead Mountain Coaster at Shepard on the Hill (dinner shows and themed dinners, ziplining, miniature golf, and a children's play area.)

Track Family Fun Park

There are three Track Family Fun Park locations in Branson, so that alone is a measure of how popular these attractions are with vacationers. The fun includes many different types of go-karts, from regular round tracks to multi-story towers like the “Heavy Metal High Rise to tracks designed just for rookie drivers. Grab tickets for the Ferris wheel if you want a bird's eye view of Branson. If this particular Ferris wheel looks familiar, it used to reside at Chicago's Navy Pier. It has been in Branson since 2016.

Other Track Family Fun Park attractions include laser tag, mini golf, batting cages, arcade games, and a variety of thrill and kiddie rides. Not all attractions are at each Track Family Fun Park location, so you'll have to move around if you want to do all the activities offered. The website provides different ticket packages and a breakdown of activities at each location.

Silver Dollar City

Silver Dollar City is a unique theme park that perfectly blends rides for everyone, musical entertainment, and resident artisans. If someone in your group needs to check the box on a big theme park with thrill rides, Silver Dollar City is it, but there's much more to the experience than coasters and things that whirl and spin. There is so much to do that you can experience a full day in the park and not ride a single ride.

Music shows include everything from Old West saloon girls doing the cancan in brightly colored petticoats to banjo pickers to modern favorites. The 100+ resident craftsmen set the park apart from other theme parks. Visitors can watch live-action soapmaking, wood carving, candy pulling, and all sorts of different crafts and skills from times past. The park is built atop a cave, and visitors can tour Marvel Cave as part of their general admission ticket.

Although the “more than just rides” list is long, the rides don't disappoint anyone. Whether you're a serious adrenaline seeker or lean toward the tamer family and kiddie rides, there will be plenty for everyone to enjoy. Silver Dollar City also has an adjacent water park, White Water, that requires a separate ticket. One day is enough to see most of Silver Dollar City, but I don't recommend making firm evening plans if that's the route you choose to take.

Branson Musical Shows

The haygoods  .

These six musical siblings – five brothers and a single sister – dazzle audiences with impressive vocals and a wide range of musical instruments. The music of the Haygoods – a mixture of classic country, rock, and pop – is enhanced with pyrotechnics and LED/fiber optic projections. This is 100 percent my favorite show in Branson, and I challenge you not to tap your toes.

Shanghai Circus

This performance features spectacular acrobatics and aerial acts set to traditional Chinese music. The costumes and LED enhancements make this show truly pop.

Dolly Parton's Stampede

Dolly Parton's Stampede is a dinner show in a 35,000-square-foot arena. You'll see trick riding, aerial stunts, musical entertainment, and live animals. Arrive early to experience the Horse Walk, where you'll get an up-close look at the horses, meet their trainers, and pose for pictures with these talented animals.

Clay Cooper's Country Express

Clay Cooper's Country Express stars Clay Cooper, his family members, and a host of talented singers, dancers, and other musicians. The show features mostly classic country and gospel songs with a bit of rock and pop thrown in the mix. Cooper's slightly corny scene-stealing humor is the common theme of the show. This is a solid  pick if you've got a large group and you're trying to choose a show everyone will enjoy.

This show features six talented brothers who make music with no instruments. These incredibly talented singers can mimic the sounds of bands and orchestras using only vocal techniques. This is currently the only a cappella performance in Branson.

Reza – The Edge of Illusion

This show often sells out. This show features blow-your-mind illusions infused with humor and charm. If you’re looking for something less focused on music, this is a great choice and often sells out.

Showboat Branson Belle

Cruise on Table Rock Lake on the 700-passenger paddle wheel river boat while enjoying musical entertainment and a three-course meal. The meal is served while warmup entertainment entertains diners from the main stage. There's a break between the meal and the main show, where visitors may explore the boat and take in the views from the deck.

This short list only scratches the surface of shows available in Branson. Explore Branson – both the website and downtown Visitor’s Center – have a plethora of information on shows and other attractions. Your hotel or Airbnb will also have information on shows and how to get tickets.

Nice to Know Branson Facts and Pro-Tips

  • Buy show and attractions tickets in advance. Shows do sell out during busy periods.
  • Arrive early everywhere. Parking lots can get congested, and most shows have lines to get inside the theater.
  • Carry a sweater or hoodie, even in summer. It’s usually cold inside the theaters.
  • If you are a veteran or first responder, ask about discounts everywhere.
  • Don’t try to do it all. Branson has an almost overwhelming amount of activity choices, and trying to fit everything in is an impossible feat.

Arkansas officials say a Missouri doctor whose body was found in a lake died by suicide

The death of a highly regarded Missouri emergency room doctor whose body was found 11 months ago in a northwest Arkansas lake has been ruled a suicide, Arkansas authorities said Thursday, in a case that fueled social media speculation about whether his disappearance had been tied to his cryptocurrency dealings.

Dr. John Forsyth, 49, was last seen nearly a year ago near the RV that he parked at the Cassville, Missouri, hospital where he worked. The father of eight who was engaged to be married didn’t show up for his shift at Mercy Hospital on May 21, 2023, prompting a search . There was no sign of him until a kayaker found his body May 30 in Arkansas’ Beaver Lake, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of the hospital.

Detectives with the Benton County, Arkansas, sheriff’s office said Thursday that Forsyth died of a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy by the chief medical examiner at the Arkansas State Crime Lab concluded the death was a suicide.

“Detectives have not been able to find any information or evidence that would lead us to dispute the medical examiner’s findings,” the sheriff’s statement said. “If objective and relevant physical evidence becomes available, those leads will be investigated on a case-by-case basis.”

The statement also said that as part of their investigation, sheriff’s officials found surveillance videos of Forsyth riding a bicycle to Beaver Lake. They said the bicycle was discovered near where Forsyth’s body was found.

--- EDITOR’S NOTE — This story includes discussion of suicide. If you or someone you know needs help, the national suicide and crisis lifeline in the U.S. is available by calling or texting 988. There is also an online chat at 988lifeline.org -—

The apparent mystery surrounding Forsyth’s death — and lack of details made public — brought his case national attention. He was engaged after divorcing a previous wife twice, and his brother, Richard, described him as excited about the upcoming marriage and a new child with his fiancee and had a plane ticket to go see one of his daughters.

Online publications covering cryptocurrency quickly took note of his death. His brother said after that before his brother’s death, John Forsyth had made cryptic remarks about being in danger.

Richard Forsyth did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment about the Benton County sheriff’s announcement.

John and Richard Forsyth founded Onfo LLC, what they called a “network mining” venture, in 2018. At that time, Onfo’s website said account holders could earn credits without putting up cash, by referring others to the company.

Richard Forsyth said after his brother’s death that the two of them were looking to give large numbers of people, including poor people in developing nations, a chance to invest in decentralized, digital currency. He said the brothers believed crypto had become driven by greed, “about Lamborghinis” and “billionaires and tax evasion.”

But the brothers’ crypto business wasn’t the only reason the case received attention as a Facebook discussion group grew to more than 1,000 members.

Only 10 days before John Forsyth’s disappearance, a judge had finalized Forsyth’s second divorce, requiring him to pay an additional $15,000 a month to his ex-wife and $3,999 a month to support four of their children. But the split was amicable, according to family members and the ex-wife’s attorney.

The sheriff’s department said the doctor was last seen walking toward his RV in the parking lot of Mercy Hospital in Cassville, 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of the Ozark Mountains tourist destination of Branson, Missouri.

But he was reported to have disappeared from the parking lot of a public swimming pool in Cassville, about a mile from the hospital where he worked, which hadn’t yet opened for the summer season. Richard Forsyth has said his brother’s car was found there, unlocked, with two cellphones, a laptop and important documents inside.
