Travel Assist

Travel Assist

Keeps you in your lane. And others at a distance.

With the optional Travel Assist, you have an extremely useful driving assistance system on board. It can keep your vehicle in its lane, keep its distance from the vehicle in front and maintain your pre-defined speed. Among other things, it uses the adaptive lane guidance system for this. This system actively keeps the vehicle in the middle of its lane. Travel Assist adapts to your driving style and can drive further on the left or right in the lane instead of in the centre. In conjunction with a navigation system, Travel Assist is enhanced with predictive cruise control and a cornering assist function. Travel Assist can adapt the vehicle's speed to the current speed limits and course of the road (bends, roundabouts, etc.). In conjunction with the dual clutch gearbox (DSG)* you can also stay relaxed when driving in traffic jams and stop-and-go traffic. * o nly in combination with an automatic transmission DSG

The specified fuel consumption and emission data are determined in accordance with the measurement procedures prescribed by law. 1 January 2022, the WLTP test cycle completely replaced the NEDC test cycle and therefore no NEDC values are available for new type approved vehicles after that date.

This information does not refer to a single vehicle and is not part of the offer but is only intended for comparison between different types of vehicles. Additional equipment and accessories (additional components, tyre formats, etc.) can alter relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, affecting the vehicle's fuel consumption, power consumption, CO 2 emissions and driving performance values in addition to weather and traffic conditions and individual driving behavior.

Due to more realistic testing conditions, fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions measured according to WLTP will in many cases be higher than the values measured according to NEDC. As a result, the taxation of vehicles may change accordingly as of 1 September 2018. For further information on the differences between WLTP and NEDC, please visit www.volkswagen.de/wltp .

Further information on official fuel consumption data and official specific CO 2 emissions for new passenger cars can be found in the "Guide to fuel economy, CO 2 emissions and power consumption for new passenger car models", which is available free of charge from all sales dealerships and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, D-73760 Ostfildern, Germany and at www.dat.de/co2 .

Given the faults you have to me it sounds like a communication issue, in this case I would assume its either software related or gateway related. This is my opinion in this particular case.

MK8 GTI travel assist not working

That doesn't sound good. Only time I got the travel assist deactivation was in bad weather when the sensors got crusted over with freezing rain, but the steering wheel has never done that to me. Sorry to hear about your hassle, so frustrating in the midst of the excitement of a new car. Let us know how it turns out, good luck.

travel assist vw golf 8

I had this happen when the sun was glaring bad and at a low angle. I was told by my dealer if the VW emblem gets dirty or accumulates snow on it it can cause an error.

I did clean off the emblem cause the owners manual did say to do that but that didn't work. I’m not understanding though why would cleaning off the radar would bring back the haptic feedback what does that have to do with turning the volume up and down for my music? Lol

mkvturk said: Hey guys just got my MK8 GTI 12 days ago and today after I pumped gas I got the yellow light for Travel assist is currently not available and all the buttons on my steering wheel are not working. I ran through what the manual said to do but no luck getting my steering wheel buttons to work the background light to them are still working but the haptic feedback is not has anyone had this issue? I’m probably just gonna bring the car back to the dealer. View attachment 147883 Click to expand...

Im guessing if its anything like newer cars it just needs reprogrammed or recalibrated.

travel assist vw golf 8

Had an issue tonight. Heavy rain and cruise cut out 3 times with the whole sensor not connected thing for travel assist. Wonder if they got faulty sensors or the wiring harness is screwy

I could have been the rain. In the touchless carwash I get all kind of parking sensor error alerts. I know the cruise will error if too much wet snow builds up on the front of the car.

Hey OP. Have you found a solution or fix for this ? Currently happening to my Mk8R. Thinking it’s the steering wheel itself and that may have to be replaced.

Mine still does this on occasion and on clear days. Goes away in about 1-5min then its good. Im thinking a bad sensor or connection. Will ask the dealership when Im in for trim repair on the 22nd

I have had occasional issues with Travel Assist, DSW, Rear Cross Traffic and others. I shut car off for 15 minutes and it clears.

Mine has already been to the dealer for this last week and it will be going in tomorrow night for it again. The first time it happened there were no adverse weather conditions I just got a warning that the travel assist was unavailable and it made the car slow down as it was on cruise and then all the steering wheel buttons on the left-hand side stopped working. The dealer said they found multiple fault codes and errors and told me that they reprogrammed the car, not sure what that meant.was fine until Friday driving down the road on cruise and the car actually actually grabbed the steering wheel out of my hand enough to make me cross maybe a foot into the other lane and then the travel assist not working alert came on The strange thing with this time was the buttons on the left-hand side were acting odd that morning, normally I have to physically push them to get them to do anything but they were acting more like a proximity touchscreen where you don’t have to touch them and they react Who knows how their related…. I’m leaving the car at the dealership overnight Monday we’ll see what the solution is.

Dealership will be replacing the buttons on left side of steering wheel and do reprograms again. Hopefully that will fix it, in doing some research on the European forums that seems to be the fix either replacing the buttons or replacing the entire steering wheel, dealership said they can get the parts quickly. I almost can’t believe that with The part shortages going around. dealership is great( Smart VW in Davenport Iowa ) about it even though I didn’t purchase the car there they gave me a service loaner.

I believe my travel assist for emergency braking and/or warning does not work. The salesman turned it on for shortest distance and assured me it works. However, in 300 miles of freeway, stop and go traffic, and city streets (even tried to set it off), never heard, saw or felt a warning or action. My steering seems to work fine, info a few glitches with touching and not recognizing. Less than a week of ownership, but still thrilled so far. (oh I don't think my drink holder button is working).

Check the front emblem, likely needs cleaning. Every time I have gotten the Travel Assist and emergency braking error message, I had a bunch of bugs splattered/caked on the emblem. After I cleaned it the error message went away.

Hmm, maybe this explains why my lane keep assist doesn't seem to be working? I haven't tried to get it fixed because it saves me from turning it off.

I've owned my 2022 for 6 months now and frankly, ready to get rid of this car due to the constant Travel Assist and Emergency Assist not available notifications that keep binging and binging while driving. I live in New England so I have to deal with ****ty weather everyday, so the whole clean the sensor thing off doesn't fly. This car is almost un-ownable up here. Anyone have luck with a lemon law return due to these issues? Dealer doesn't seem to know what they are doing when it comes to fixing the problem.. .issues started right back up a day after I had it in for service last week. This is my 3rd VW and it's breaking my heart because I'm ready to disassociate from the brand...feel like I flushed $40k down the drain.

I live in New England and I can count on one hand the number of times I've had this issue after over a year of ownership. Seems your issue is beyond just needing to be cleaned off. It does suck how unable a lot of these dealer service techs are. I don't really blame them because I imagine a lot of it has to do with VW not providing them with the tools and instruction needed to triage with the ever growing complexity. Sorry to hear your frustration. I did return a Passat under lemon law many years ago (maybe 12?) for a bad manual transmission, so it can be done.

travel assist vw golf 8

Agreed with this post 100%! jkGTI I would go to the dealer and make sure that they have the TSB numbers to have the proper updates completed. Also the number of GTI's and R's that a dealership sees is extremely small compared to the Tiguans or Atlas's so they are not as common.

travel assist vw golf 8

My car is scurrently sitting at the dealership forecourt about to be buried in a snowstorm as they now have told me it needs a gateway module to "hopefully" rectify the errors that keep on showing up. These faults have been going on now since February. I had an update done which did speed up the infortainment unit and cured the audio loss, but these bloody constant errors are fairly regular now with the latest being knock sensor errors which of course had an effect on the car's performance. I told the salesman that if this is not sorted this time round, I'm also going to lemon law the car. I'm currently driving my old 2006 Honda CRV with 215000 miles on it and it's been 100% reliable in the 16 years I've had it. Sad state of affairs.

Damn shame. The truly sad part is that I had a few long arguments with my wife about the sensibility of buying another GTI in my 30s and trying to relive the glory days. I'm getting smacked in the face with karma now. I'll buy Asian for the rest of my days...hopefully we are both successful on our lemon law returns...

I bought my Mk8 used at 1,800mi mid December, drove it for 6 days and the forward crash sensor warning and lane assist never warning never turned off. I assume that means it wasn't functioning so I decided to give it to the dealership to see if they can fix it assuming it was a hardware issue or upgrade that the previous owner didn't bother with. It remains at the dealership almost a month later a waiting a new steering wheel. They ran test after test to locate what the issue was and now they are just going to replace the steering wheel and the electrical bundle inside it. Reading on golfmk8.com it appears that there is a bit of a track record of the same issue and the problem appeared to be the sensor that recognizes a drivers hand is on the wheel is malfunctioning. They've been struggling to locate the steering wheel for it so I still wait, they don't have any loaner cars because of how low their inventory is so I've been getting very aquatinted with the trains of New England. Has anyone had to pay for this to be replaced or should this be covered as a factory defect? Just bracing myself for a bill once I get my car back

Considering the factory warrantee is tied to the car and not the owner, I'm assuming this should be covered, fingers crossed. I'm just unsure because it doesn't appear as a recall through VW and it's not the drivetrain. Idk what they consider the steering wheel and electrical systems. And I've only just started to think about trying to return it under the lemon law but haven't done any research. I'm in this deep so I will carry on and hopefully get it back soon. I had my mk7 totaled and it's funny I bought a mk8 because I didn't want to over pay for a mk7 since they are owned by people like me who aren't overly gentle to their cars so I was worried about getting something with hidden issues, if only I knew.

I would contact Volkswagen directly. You should be provided with a loaner.

Yeah I think I'll take that route on Monday if I don't get good news, supposed to have an update on the part and a potential loaner from my dealership. New update today is that apparently the old owner had apparently started the process of getting the steering wheel replaced and the part was ordered but then he decided to sell the car to an Audi dealership where I bought it. Wish I dug deeper into the infotainment center on my test drive and I might've noticed the issues but here I am. Regardless, since the part was already ordered, its being located which just adds another layer of delay. I'm just venting at this point but it really sours my opinion of VW but hopefully all of us talking about our issues helps someone problem solve when they're going through the same issue

travel assist vw golf 8

Got my new steering wheel installed today. Drove home without any issues so hopefully this solves it. I adore the car otherwise so would be great if this was the fix.

Hope the same goes for me! Best of luck

"Travel assist not working" pops up sometimes 20 times a drive for me, on going issue. super annoying, need a fix asap

Get in and get your order for a steering wheel as soon as you can. They are back-ordered a few months right now. I just happened to get lucky.

My car is back at the dealer for its 3rd visit...waiting on the final answer but it's looking like the steering wheel. Will absolutely be pursuing a lemon law return if they tell me it's a months long wait for such a major defect. I hate this car!

6-9 months? What a joke! Unbelievable. Will these vehicles even pass a state inspection in their current state? I'm picking up my vehicle from the dearler after its 3rd visit today. Supposedly some software updates were completed, but I'm not putting much faith into this resolving the problem. If I get told there is going to be a 6-9 month backlog for the steering wheel I am going to lose it.

I doubt any state will require a functional travel assist system, since it is not required by law. I would be cross if that happens to my car, but I knew all along that there is certain amount of risk involved when it comes to new tech and we need to live with the bugs till it becomes solid. We also need to be honest and say that the car is perfectly drivable without it.

Let me guess...you work for Volkswagen or something? Gtfoh

travel assist vw golf 8

I bought my 2022 GTI in March 2022 and starting in August 2022 the travel assist, SOS and Emergency assist lights keep coming on. I took it to the dealership. They reached out to Germany and was told to replace the steering wheel which they did. Everything was ok until November when it started doing it again. I took in to the dealership once again. I was told they need to replace the steering with with an updated one. They have on ETA on when the newer steering wheel will become available. I’ve open a buyback case with VW. They sold me a defective product and I want my money back!!

Unreal. I'm waiting on the ETA for my steering wheel, and I'm assuming the answer is going to be 6+ months. I'll be starting the lemon law process as soon as I get the ETA or lack thereof. This all sounds class action worthy.

Well, it's been a while since I was on this forum but during the period of my 25 months & 17 days wait for my GTE (who's counting!) I'm now back with two (2) ongoing problems. I should say that I only took ownership in September 2023, so very young. 1. I have encountered a number of messages all related to loss of sensor. I am now told it may require a new steering wheel. It's going in in early April for 3 days with curtesy car supplied. Then I asked "do you have a steering wheel in stock if require" answer no but is will only take two (2) days to get one. I've heard that before! I am grateful for all your comments on this subject and let you know what happens. 2. I have had a number of occasions, when I have tried to access keyless entry and it failed. My car is parked in a carport up to a wall on the drivers side. My access & egress is via the passenger door. When this fails I have had to access the car via the tailgate, drop the rear seat and crawl through to initiate the unlock switch on the drivers door. (it's just as well I'm fit and agile!). This works & unlocks the doors. I believe the problem is the 12V battery volts are low. On measuring the voltage on a number of occasions it is about 11.7V. I have carried out checks on charging with both the Combustion engine (Hybrid mode) and the Electric Mode. Both of these systems immediately display a voltage of 14.5V at the battery terminal (the tags under the bonnet). To me this indicates 1 of 2 things. The battery is faulty and not holding a charge or there is a drain on somewhere in the system. Anyone got any helpful thoughts. Denver Pete
