The 2022 Tour de France begins on Friday, July 1 through Sunday, July 24 across the networks of NBC, USA Network, and Peacock. This year’s cycling event features nine new sites and stages indicated with an asterisk in the schedule below.

Additionally, there will be two individual time trials in this year’s Tour marking the first time since 2017 that the event begins with an individual time trial and the third straight year with one on the penultimate Tour stage. The 2022 Tour de France is 24 days long. There will be one stage contested per day and three rest days. The first rest day is on July 4 (between stages 3 & 4), the second will be on July 11 (between stages 9 & 10), and the final rest day will be on July 18 (between stages 15 & 16).

There will be a total of 176 riders. There will be 22 teams with 8 riders per team.

Race preview

The herculean GC battle Tour de France between leader Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) and second-placed Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) ended on stage 16 and 17 with the Dane first delivering a stunning blow in the time trial before a knockout punch on the Col de la Loze.

Vingegaard has a comfortable lead in the Tour de France GC standings of 7:29 on Pogačar, winner of stage 20 , and 10:56 on the Slovenian's teammate Adam Yates.

The penultimate stage delivered the final skirmish for riders fighting to move up in the top 10 of the general classification. Simon Yates  (Jayco-AlUla) moved up to fourth overall while Carlos Rodríguez (Ineos Grenadiers) lost one spot and is now in fifth place.  Meanwhile, Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) sealed the KOM classification.

All eyes now turn to the sprinters whose biggest day of the year is the finish on the Champs Elysées in Paris.

The largely-ceremonial final stage will explode into life in the circuits as the sun sets over Paris.

The stage is set for the greatest show on two wheels! The Tour de France returns to our screens from July 1-24, with Tadej Pogacar, Primoz Roglic and Geraint Thomas among those hoping to be cruising down the Champs-Elysees in yellow. There’s also a return to the Tour for Chris Froome, but Fabio Jakobsen has got the nod over Mark Cavendish for the sprint spot in the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team.

De eerste en enige bergrit van deze Tour de France Femmes gaat in 90 kilometer van Lannemezan via de Aspin naar de top van nog zo'n Pyreneeënreus: de Tourmalet. Dit is het moment waarop het klassement in de Ronde definitief vorm krijgt.

Het slotstuk van deze Ronde is een 22 kilometer lange tijdrit in en om Pau. Na de finish van de laatste renner zit de tweede editie van de hernieuwde Tour de France Femmes erop en volgt de prijsuitreiking.

TV van gisteren

B&B Vol Liefde blijft een ware kijkcijferhit. De datingshow van RTL4 heeft in de derde uitzendweek opnieuw meer kijkers getrokken. De magische grens van 1 miljoen kijkers werd op een haar na geslecht.

Er viel weer genoeg te beleven op tv gisteravond, vooral op het gebied van wielrennen. In De Oranjezomer maakte een bepaald moment in de tour de tongen los bij Rafael van der Vaart en Roxane Knetemann.

De 177 kilometer lange etappe van Cahors naar Rodez begint vlak, maar in de finale zitten drie zware beklimmingen. Een mooie gelegenheid voor een lange ontsnapping, bijvoorbeeld van een renner van topploeg Team SD Worx.

Het zit er dik in dat de 122 kilometer lange rit tussen Albi en Blagnac in een massasprint eindigt. Onderweg komen de renners weinig obstakels van betekenis tegen en de finishlijn is getrokken op een lange, vlakke weg.

Er liggen vier beklimmingen op de 126 kilometer tussen Albi en Onet-le-Château, maar heel zwaar is deze overgangsetappe nergens. Een mooie kans voor de niet-klimmers in het peloton om op avontuur te gaan.

De Tour eindigt met een vlakke rit van 115 kilometer. Na acht rondes over Champs-Élysées krijgt het publiek in Parijs waarschijnlijk een massasprint. Daarna worden de winnaars van de klassementen gehuldigd.

De vrouwen rijden een heuvelachtige, 148 kilometer lange rit van Clermont-Ferrand naar Mauriac. Onderweg zijn er flink wat punten voor het bergklassement te verdienen. De finish ligt een kilometer na de laatste klim.

The most convenient way to watch the Tour de France for free is by using an over-the-air (OTA) antenna to pick up your local NBC station. Unfortunately, NBC doesn’t show a lot of race coverage—mostly encore presentations of early and late stages. But it never hurts having an antenna in your TV setup.

The 110th Tour de France will stream on Peacock and air on NBC and USA Network throughout July 2023. Peacock offers the best way to watch Le Tour because it streams every stage from beginning to end. It also carries the entire women’s race, which begins the same day as the men’s competition ends.

The world’s most prestigious road cycling race, the Tour de France , is gearing up for three weeks and 21 stages of grueling competition over a total distance of approximately 2,079 miles.

USA Network, Peacock and NBC combine for live and tape-delayed coverage of the 109th Tour de France beginning Friday, July 1, with the Grand Départ from Copenhagen, Denmark. The race travels through France’s hills, mountains, towns and countryside, and includes stages in Belgium and Switzerland.

Phil Liggett calls play-by-play race action with analyst Bob Roll. Steve Porino and former professional cyclist Robbie Hunter will serve as reporters.

Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates is two-time reigning champion. Among the Americans to look out for is Sepp Kuss from Colorado, who gave the U.S. its first stage win at the event in a decade last year.

Watch Tour de France on TV: Channel, start time and how to catch highlights today

The 2022 Tour de France sees Slovenian two-time winner Tadej Pogacar aim to claim a third yellow jersey in four years, but he is up against the reigning champion Jonas Vingegaard and his formidable Jumbo-Visma team.

And while Vingegaard and Pogacar are expected to fight out the yellow jersey, there is an open race to finish on the podium.

Australia’s 2022 Giro d’Italia winner Jai Hindley, Spain’s Enric Mas, rising Danish star Mattias Skjelmose, home favourite David Gaudu, 2019 Giro winner Richard Carapaz and Pogacar’s new teammate Adam Yates are all in the running, while Ineos riders Tom Pidcock and Dani Martinez could also end up high in the general classification. Ultimately it will come down to who can cling on to the wheels of Vingegaard and Pogacar the longest.

How to watch on TV and online

Tour de France coverage can be found this year on ITV4, Eurosport, Discovery+ and GCN+ (Global Cycling Network).

Live racing each day will be shown on ITV4, usually starting around midday ( guide here ), before highlights on ITV4 at 7pm each day . It can all be streamed online via ITVX.

Eurosport and GCN+ will show every minute of every stage. It is also being shown on Eurosport’s Discovery+ streaming service.

Vingegaard zit maand na zware val weer op de fiets en hoopt Tour te halen

Vingegaard vloog vorige maand in een etappe van de Ronde van Baskenland uit de bocht. De tweevoudig Tour-winnaar hield aan de val onder meer een klaplong, gebroken ribben en een gebroken sleutelbeen over. De Deense kopman van Visma-Lease a Bike werd geopereerd en lag bijna twee weken in het ziekenhuis.

"Ik heb nog altijd een paar dingen waarvan ik moet herstellen, maar het gaat beter en beter. Ik voel me goed", zegt Vingegaard in een videoboodschap op X , terwijl hij glunderend poseert met zijn racefiets.

"Dit is weer mijn eerste trainingsronde in de buitenlucht. Het is heel fijn om eindelijk weer in staat te zijn om normaal te rijden en om eindelijk weer op de weg te fietsen. Het is geweldig. Ik kijk uit naar de volgende stappen."

Het is de grote vraag of Vingegaard op tijd fit is voor de start van de Tour de France. De Franse rittenkoers, die Vingegaard de voorbije twee jaar won, begint op 29 juni in Florence. "Ik hoop de start te halen. We weten natuurlijk niet hoe het met mijn vorm en mijn herstel zal zijn, maar ik zal er alles aan doen om daar in topvorm te staan."

Tour de Tietema wil met fietsende Twentse boer Johannink (27) naar de Tour de France

„Nog niet zo lang geleden reed Jelle nog bij een clubteam (het Achterhoekse Sensa-Kanjers voor Kanjers, red.), in de Amstel Gold Race liet hij zich tot laat in de koers vooraan zien”, meent sportief directeur Julia Soek.

„Dat zegt iets over de enorme ontwikkeling die hij heeft doorgemaakt. Wij geloven in de potentie van Jelle en willen daarom graag met hem de toekomst in.”

Documentaire

In de documentaire over de Gold Race speelt Johannink een belangrijke rol . Hij vertelt daarin uitgebreid over zijn werkzaamheden op de boerderij, zijn weg naar de World Tour en zijn ambities op de fiets. Tietema: „Jelle is de belichaming van waar wij voor staan: hij heeft een kleurrijk karakter en levert sportieve topprestaties.”

Tietema gaat verder: „Zoals iedereen weet is ons grote doel de Tour de France. Daar willen we in 2026 staan met onze wielerploeg, mediateam, community en partners. Om daar te komen, focussen we ons nu op de mooie fase die voor ons ligt en willen we volgende stappen op weg naar dat grote doel zetten.”
