What to do in Prague

Visit old town.

This is a popular spot in Prague and for good reason! It’s a great spot to take in the city’s gorgeous architecture, enjoy live music, or just kick back at an open-air café. Old Town is home to many historic attractions including the Prague Astronomical Clock, the Church of St. Nicholas, the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the Kinský Palace, among others. During the holiday season, the square is transformed into a Christmas market.

Enjoy the beauty of Petrin Park

This is one of the city’s largest parks — it’s a great place to capture beautiful views of the city and take a break from the hustle and bustle of sightseeing. There are many things to check out in the park including a beautiful rose garden (Rosarium), Nebozízek Garden, a wooden mirror maze (Zrcadlové bludiště), Seminary Garden along with a small café. You will also find something that resembles the Eifel Tower — the Petrín Observation Tower. It’s worth climbing the 299 stairs for a great view of the city. If you need a break from walking you can always take the Petrin funicular from Ujezd street in Mala Strana.

Tour Prague Castle

The imposing fortress is hard to miss as it looms overhead — no matter where you are in the city. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Prague Castle is the most famous castle in the Czech Republic and one of the largest in the world. Behind the castle is a small street called the Golden Lane. It was once home to Franz Kakfa who wrote many stories, including “The Castle” during his stay. The castle grounds are beautiful and free to check out, all other sites require a ticket. It is also a popular spot for movie filming in Prague. If you plan to visit, I suggest booking a tour , or at least purchase your tickets, in advance.

Catch a concert or just enjoy the ambiance of Wallenstein Garden

The storybook gardens outside of the Wallenstein Palace (home to the Czech Republic Senate) are filled with beautiful fountains, koi ponds, and strolling peacocks. During the summer, it is also a great spot to catch a concert.  One very eye-catching part of the garden is the eerie dripstone wall , which is quite a change from the lush greenery.

Take a day trip to the Terezin Memorial

While you’re in Prague I think it is important to plan a trip to the Terezin concentration camp. Just 43 miles north of the city is a small sleepy town where over 33,000 people lost their lives. Terezin was used as a transition camp to move prisoners to other extermination camps and as a place of “retirement” for seniors.

Many older, wealthy Jews were tricked into thinking this was a safe haven where they could stay while hiding from the Nazis. The camp also created propaganda films to show the world that no one was being treated unfairly and the living conditions were humane. You can get to Terezin on your own, but I think the best way to visit is with an official guide. There are many tours, we booked one through Viator which also allowed us to visit the museum, Jewish cemetery, and crematorium.

This is a small Czech café chain with a couple of locations in Prague. This one offers soy milk for hot drinks and has a vegan apple strudel as well as sometimes a couple of vegan muffins. For something a bit more filling, there’s a wonderfully fresh hummus plate served with warm pita bread.

As a bonus, it’s also super digital nomad friendly, with fast wifi and several power outlets. If you do decide to work there, you certainly won’t be alone, as it’s also a popular place for this among students and locals.

It makes for an ideal stopping off point while exploring the cool Žižkov area, and its proximity to the famous Žižkov Television Tower means there's more reason to come than just to see this feat of Brutalist architecture! The donuts themselves are pretty big and fluffy.

What about Rawcha: http://rawcha.cz/ The best vegan raw food in Prague!

Wow, that´s great 🙂 unfortunatelly, you missed two great places – restaurant Plevel ( http://restauraceplevel.cz/ ) – I recommend the one in Krymská Street; and Maitrea right in heart of the city center ( http://www.maitrea.cz/ ) – soooo next time 😉

Thanks for your comment, Alena! Yes, we unfortunately didn’t have time to try out every place in Prague, but we will expand the guide when we return (which hopefully won’t be long!) I heard of Plevel, but I didn’t know Maitrea, so thanks very much for that recommendation!

you should also try thai box food for vegan thai street food.

We’ll keep that in mind for our next visit to Prague. Thanks, Katcha!

Puro in Vinohradská street is also missing. https://www.facebook.com/puro.green

I will try to check out Puro on my next visit to Prague, thanks, Michael! As I only had a limited time there two months ago and I only recommend places I was able to try myself, I couldn’t fit everything in this guide this time, but I do endeavour to expand my guides when I get the chance.

Love this guide and love Prague. There are sooo many options and this makes me look forward to going back and trying more very soon! <3

I was really surprised how many options there are in Prague, given that it’s not a huge city. Veganism (and raw veganism in particular) seem to be quite popular at the moment there. It’ll be interesting to see how many new places have popped up by the next time I visit!

Palo Verde – Vegan Restaurant

Vegan mushroom tortellini from Palo Verde in Prague

  • Restaurant Type: Totally vegan
  • What to Try : Waffles, Spanish Croquettes, tortellini

Palo Verde is an all vegan restaurant and cafe that specializes in homemade pasta dishes and desserts. Additionally, they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The stunning restaurant is cozy and spacious and has a beautiful, verdant garden in the back that is perfect for an outdoor dining on a nice sunny day.

Dinner options include fresh pasta dishes like mushroom tortellini, and bolognese lasagna. Additionally, there is a tapas plate for two that comes with arancini, chickn poppers, Spanish crouquettes sin jamon, hummus, olives, and bread. An excellent starter for two. Organic wine, sparkling wine, and cocktails are also on offer.

For breakfast there are an array of options like waffles, tofu scramble, porridge, and more. If you want to visit for coffee and dessert, you’re in luck.

Their desserts are homemade and include cakes, tarts, and more. They also offer premium quality coffee and tea too.

One other thing to note, Palo Verde is located inside the Salvator Boutique Hotel . So, if you’re visiting Prague and prefer to start the day with a conveniently located vegan breakfast, it’s the perfect place to lay your head.

Pastva – Vegan Restaurant

Vegan foie gras at Pastva in Prague

  • Restaurant Type: Totally Vegan
  • What to Try:  The menu changes regularly but their pate or foie gras are always excellent

Pastva (which means grazing in Czech, not pasta) is a spectacular vegan restaurant in the Anděl neighborhood of Prague. It’s the perfect place for a celebration dinner or romantic meal. The food is absolutely phenomenal, and it’s obvious that the kitchen staff know what they’re doing!

The restaurant offers a reasonably priced daily lunch menu as well as a fantastic dinner menu with a wide variety of options to choose from. Some of my favorite items on the menu include the vegan foie gras and the lasagna. Pure heaven.

Before you leave, check out the dessert case where they have an ever-changing variety of vegan and raw sweets.

Shromaždiště – Vegan Pub in Prague

Shromaždiště Vegan Pub in Prague

  • What to Try: The fish(less) spread is incredible, but then again everything I’ve had on the menu is great!

Shromaždiště (which means assembly place or meeting point) is a vegan Czech pub in Žižkov with nicely priced beer and food.

This traditionally decorated pub is a few steps below ground and has a cozy atmosphere, and super friendly and welcoming staff. They offer Czech beer on tap, including pilsen and pale ale, and bottled gluten free beer. They also have wine, liquor, and soft drinks.

Zucchini Fries from Shromaždiště Vegan Pub in Prague

Shromaždiště has a fantastic pub grub menu with options like soup, fish(less) spread, beer battered hot dogs, soy curls with Czech dumplings, pickled sausages, and crunchy zucchini fries. Everything I’ve had so far has been delicious!

Note: Keep an eye on their Facebook page for special events and discount days, like “Thirsty Thursdays”.

Belzepub – Vegan Burgers in Prague

  • What to try : The Vegan Chili Cheese Burger.

As of January 2020 Belzepub is totally vegan!! This change isn’t really a surprise to me since they have always had some of…or maybe THE best vegan burgers in Prague.

The Zizkov bar has a variety of vegan burger options including vegan cheese and vegan mayo, as well as delicious fries, vegan onion rings, vegan fish’n’chips, vegan cheese sticks, and vegan coleslaw. Wash it all down with a frosty Pilsner Urquell (they have some of the best beer on tap in Prague in my opinion) and it’s the perfect greasy meal before a big night out.

Just make sure to check their website before you head there because they have weird hours, including not being open on Saturday or Sunday. Also, they stop serving food at 10:00 pm, so go early!

Sociální bistro Střecha – Vegan Restaurant Helping the Homeless

Vegan Schnitzel and Potato Salad from Bistro Strecha in Prague

  • Restaurant Type : Totally Vegan
  • What to try : The vegan schnitzel and Saturday brunch.

Social bistro Střecha is a vegan restaurant and cafe is a social enterprise that offers work to people who are homeless or who have recently served time in prison.

The charming, spacious restaurant is located in New Town and offers diners simple vegan dishes, desserts, fair-trade coffee, and drinks at reasonable prices.

They serve a daily lunch menu from Monday to Friday and a set menu in the evenings. They also have a Saturday breakfast offer that changes weekly.

The food is simple, homestyle cooking but will leave you feeling totally satisfied and happy you visited, especially since the bill will never break your budget.

Vegan Hot Dog from Eaternia in Prague

  • What to try : Hot dog and Fries!

Hot dogs, and burgers, and fries! Oh, my!

The all vegan EATERNIA restaurant is a junk food Mecca. This 50s diner style spot in Smíchov dishes up veganized American, Canadian, Italian, Hungarian, and Czech favorites. The menu included vegan hot dogs, hamburgers, poutine, gnocchi, langos, and fries.

In typical Czech style, the restaurant also has a daily lunch menu with a soup and main to choose from. When I went it was a potato pancake with sauerkraut and tofu.

Having had a Beyond Burger the night before I visited EATERNIA, I opted for the vegan hot dog. A choice I did not regret! The sausage was smokey, the bread buttery, sauerkraut tangy, and the mayo…mayoey?

Of course, I got a side of fries which perfectly crispy and perfectly salted…something all too often not done well in Prague.

EATERNIA also has some awesome looking desserts which I opted to leave for my next visit since I was absolutely stuffed from the hot dog, fries, and delicious Vinohradský pivovar beer I washed it all down with.

If you’re in the mood for stellar vegan junk food in Prague, EATERNIA is one of the best options in the city!

Linh’s Vegan Corner

Linh's Vegan Corner in Prague - Vegan Dragon Tofu

Linh’s Vegan Corner , recently relocated to Havelská 508/9 in Old Town, is a vegan Vietnamese restaurant, cafe, and grocery store.

It’s the perfect spot to grab a hearty and filling lunch after hitting Old Town Square. The large menu features Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, and Western dishes.

My suggestion, stick to the Vietnamese dishes, because Linh’s does it right! Especially the Dragon Tofu. It’s a dish I had nearly daily when I was in Vietnam and this version is on point. Crispy tofu, slightly spicy chilis, zesty lemongrass. What’s not to like? It’s served with rice, salad, and sauerkraut (giving it a Czech flair).

Linh’s also has a variety of homemade dessert (try the homemade mochi), bubble teas, coffee, and regular teas. Which makes for the perfect ending to an excellent meal!

After you eat, be sure to have a look around the shop for some truly fantastic vegan grocery options. Mock meats, mochi, cookies, ice cream (including Czech made Patipatti ), milks, cheeses, and more are all on offer.

Loving Hut – Cafeteria Style Vegan Restaurant

Loving Hut Vinohrady Prague

  • What to try: For a real treat, try their Vegan Pho! The buffet is always good too.

Loving Hut is a worldwide vegan restaurant chain with multiple locations scattered all over Prague.

The restaurants in Prague serve Asian style food like curries, pho, fried rice, noodles, and spring rolls. There is a vegan pay-by-weight buffet or a full menu to choose from.

Vegan Pho at Loving Hut

Country Life – Vegan Cafeteria Style Restaurant

Country Life

  • What to Try : Anything that looks good.

Country Life  has been around since 1998. It’s located a few meters from Old Town Square so it’s a great vegan food option for anyone staying in the center of Prague. It’s also located next door to a health food store by the same name.

IMG_8903

The Country Life restaurant offers a wide variety of simple , country style food to choose from. It’s a self serve dining experience where you pay for food by weight. The daily options include beans, pasta, pizza, salad, veggies, and mock meats.

To be honest, at first glance I didn’t think I was going to love my meal, but the food surpassed my expectations. It is very simple, and homey, but well seasoned, tasty, and comforting.

If you’re in Old Town and want a quick and affordable vegan meal, this is a good option.

Chutnej – Vegan Fast Food

chutnej vegan prague

  • What to try : Them burgers obviously!

When I saw Chutnej pop up on HappyCow for the first time I was not inclined to run over and give it a try. The pics on their website and Facebook page are a bit misleading. I was expecting it to be akin to a vegan version of Mc Donalds or Burger King and wasn’t enticed. After a few positive reviews from friends and some junk food cravings I decided to give it a try.

The restaurant is much larger and more open than I expected. The space is clean and has a minimalistic feel complete with unvarnished wooden tables and chairs, and the big windows at the front of the restaurant let in loads of light.

Their burgers are solid and they have nice fixin’s like vegan mayo and cheese, pickles, lettuce, red onion, and tomato. They’re a big mess and a touch challenging to eat, but what burger worth its salt isn’t? The onion rings were a bit lackluster but not bad overall, and the lemonades (what Czech call sodas) were up to any hipsters standards.

For the price – 225 kc for burger/side/drink – the quality could be higher, but if you’re craving flavorful vegan junk food and are in the neighborhood, Chutnej is a good option.

Electric Sheep Book Bar

Electric Sheep Book Bar - all vegan cocktail bar in Prague

If you’re looking for a cozy way to end the night, check out The Electric Sheep Book Bar .

This all vegan cocktail bar and English book store serves delicious, classic cocktails, specialty cocktails, and vegan snacks.

The cocktail list is looong. It includes classics like the Sazerac, Old Fashioned, Dark and Stormy, and more. They also have speciality drinks crafted in-house, including a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. If you want to know what that is, you’re going to have to go find out for yourself.

The menu changes regularly, but you can expect hearty bar snacks and sweets.

Be sure to also take a look at the wall of books while you’re there! They have new and used English books from all genres.

NOTE: Electric Sheep is currently closed for repairs. Check their IG for updates on when they reopen.

Mlsná Kavka

  • Restaurant Type: Vegetarian
  • What to Try : Daily Lunch Menu

Mlsná kavka is a straight up cozy and casual vegetarian restaurant in Karlin. When I’m in the neighborhood around lunch time it’s my go-to spot.

Their down-to-earth homestyle cooking is delightful and typically pretty healthy. Their daily lunch menu features vegan options, and on my most recent visit the dessert was even vegan!

In addition to the delicious food and lovely setting, the restaurant is a social company. They employ people who have experienced mental illness. So, when you visit Mlsná kavka, you support two compassionate causes.

Satsang – Vegetarian Restaurant

Vegan Tofu at Satsang in Prague

  • What to Try : The brunch and curry.

Satsang vegetarian restaurant has, hands down, the best vegan brunch in Prague.

Not only do they have a build-your-own scrambled tofu menu where you can add loads of different things to your scramble, like vegan cheese and homemade vegan bacon, but they also have big and fluffy vegan American style pancakes, and bottomless mimosas and coffee on the menu.

It’s the perfect weekend brunch option!

Satsang Vegan Curry in Prague

Satsang also has an excellent dinner menu with plenty of vegan options like curry, pad thai, bahn xiao (coconut milk savory pancakes), and vegan mezze. They also have vegan wine on the menu!

If you’re looking for a lovely restaurant for a cozy dinner, date, or a hearty hangover curing weekend brunch, Satsang is the place to go.

Dhaba Beas – Cafeteria Style Vegetarian Restaurant

Dhaba Beas Vegetarian Indian Restaurant

  • What to try : Make sure you save room on your plate for the vegan samosas.

Another pay by weight, buffet style restaurant,  Dhaba Beas Vegetarian Restaurant has a nice selection of vegan Indian dishes. Most of the items on their buffet are vegetarian but everything is clearly marked to show which items are vegan and which include dairy.

Dhaba Beas is a chain restaurant with 12 locations around Prague.

Paprika – Mediterranean Bistro & Bar – Vegan Falafel & Shawarma

Vegan falafel and hummus prague at Paprika

  • Restaurant Type: Vegan Friendly (Not Vegan or Vegetarian)
  • What to try : The falafel!

Another non-vegan restaurant in Prague serving up delicious vegan food.

Paprika Mediterranean Bistro & Bar serves tasty Israeli food including vegan falafel, vegan shawarma, hummus, and fluffy homemade pita bread. It’s a great spot for a quick lunch, dinner, or takeaway.

They have two locations, one near IP Pavlova and another in Andel. Head to their larger Andel restaurant if you want to guarantee a table and seat.

Arepas de Lyna – Vegan Arepas and Empanadas

Vegan Arepas in Prague

  • Restaurant Type: Vegan Friendly (not Vegan or Vegetarian)
  • What to Try : the Vegan Arepas

Arepas de Lyna is a non-vegan Venezuelan restaurant serving home made food, including delicious vegan arepas and empanadas!

If you’ve never had arepas your tastebuds are in for a real treat. They’re a type of bread/cake usually made from ground corn. They’re cooked on a griddle and stuffed with almost anything you can imagine. I haven’t had them since I was in Colombia so this was kind of a special moment.

The vegan arepas at Arepas de Lyna are served with beans, salad, avocado, and toasted sesame seeds on top. The portions are a bit small for a meal but they’re an excellent snack! Highly recommended.

Vegan Prague Guide to Vegan Pizza

manna vegan pizza Karlin Prague

There are a few places where you can get vegan pizza with vegan cheese in Prague.

To be totally honest, pizza isn’t great in Prague in general. So scoring a vegan pizza is no easy feat. But, there are a few places I recommend.

Chutnej (see above) also has tasty vegan pizzas and the restaurant is 100% vegan!

  • Restaurant Type: 100% Vegan

Pizza Letná

Pizza Letná – a takeaway pizza place near Letná park. Perfect for picnics; just grab a pizza (there are four different size options) and plop down on a patch of grass in the park. If you’re near the beer garden you can get a glass or two of Pilsner to wash it all down.

Pizza Bertoldi

Pizza Bertoldi is a pizza restaurant in Vinohrady offering four different vegan pizzas on their menu. In addition to vegan cheese, they also have vegan salami.

Le Pizze di Frankie

Le Pizze di Frankie has one vegan pizza on the menu, the Marinara, and it might not sound all that enticing to you. However, their pizzas are the closest to actual Neapolitan pizza (best pizza in the world, hands down) than any I’ve had outside of Naples.

The Marinara is a traditionally basic pizza that is crust topped with marinara sauce and garlic. Theirs is delicious, albeit simple.

Vegan Prague – More Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants in Prague

Here is a list of other vegan or vegetarian restaurants in Prague I haven’t had a chance to try, don’t like that much, or have only been to once.

  • Radost FX – Food can be hit or miss.
  • Lehká Hlava – Clear Head – Nice vegetarian restaurant with a few vegan options. Good atmosphere but a bit over rated in my opinion.
  • My Raw Cafe – I’ve tried one of their vegan desserts and it was really good but haven’t tried the food.
  • Maitrea – Nice vegetarian restaurant with a few vegan options. Good atmosphere but quite overrated in my opinion.
  • RawCHA – Haven’t tried.
  • Raw For You – Haven’t tried.
  • Vegan’s Prague – Formerly LoVeg. Restaurant was better before changing owners. It’s very touristy and I don’t really recommend going there. My dish was overpriced and underwhelming.

Friday 13th of August 2021

Wiw, thanks for this post! So much has changed in the past 6/7 years since moving to Prague and going vegan. The choice is wide, the quality of vegan food is not always high but it's getting better :) it's a great list, only a couple of these I don't know and I will be visiting them for sure. Thank you for this comprehensive guide :)

You said it! So much has changed in that time. I mean, Prague has been vegan friendly for at least the past 6 years, but there have been so many new options popping up in the past few.

I'm happy you like my article! :)

What's your favorite place for vegan food here?

Monday 6th of January 2020

Just leaving Prague now! And while they do have a very medieval vibe of meat and potatoes I was thoroughly impressed with every restaurant or food stall market I visited. I didn’t need a specific vegan eatery, every place offered a full complete meal or snack of vegan offerings. Thing perogies with veggies, cabbage and mushrooms, potato dishes for days. None of them boring to appeal as an after thought for a vegan/vegetarian rather a wonderfully flavored dish for all to enjoy.

Randi Delano, Creator and Owner, Veggie Visa

Hi Sid, Thanks for leaving this comment. Prague has indeed become more vegan friendly recently. Just curious where you ate? I'm always looking for new vegan-friendly places to add to my other article about non-vegan places that serve vegan dishes. I know that most traditional Czech places still do not serve vegan dishes and will look at you funny for asking. So curious to hear what restaurants you visited. Thanks! :)

Thursday 12th of December 2019

Krmelec Vršky has actually closed a long time ago.

I would also mention Herbivore, they are just amazing.

Friday 13th of December 2019

Thanks for the update on Krmelec Vršky... I agree, Herbivore is nice. :)

Hi there I wonder whether you could suggest one or two restaurants in Prague that are vegan 'friendly'? I'm the only vegan in my family of four and as supportive as they are they would prefer a non vegan menu when we travel. Thanks for your help Veronika

Hi Veronika, many of the restaurants in this article are "vegan friendly" non-vegan restaurants. Here they are:

Vegan-Friendly Prague Travel Guide

Vegan-Friendly Prague Travel Guide

Table of Contents

Prague is one of Europe’s most beautiful and historic cities. Not only is it a great place to enjoy a cultural experience, but there are also plenty of vegan-friendly restaurants in Prague.

Vegetarian Prague is one of the best vegan travel guides around because it showcases some of the most animal-friendly cafes and restaurants that you should try when visiting this beautiful city.

Vegan-Friendly Prague Travel Guide

Basics For Vegans In Prague

Vegetarians Prague is a vegan guide to eating in Prague and now there's no need to worry about not being able to find vegan food while you're travelling.

As someone who has been living as a vegan for years and travelled around Europe extensively, it's often hard to find good things to eat when they're travelling. There are so many places that don’t advertise vegan, but there are actually some amazing meat-free options. Vegetarian Prague, being one of the best vegan travel guides around, showcases some of the most animal-friendly cafes and restaurants that you should try when visiting this beautiful city.

How To Find Vegan Transport In Prague

No matter your budget, you can travel to Prague and have a vegan-friendly experience. There are plenty of options for public transportation in the city, and even if you fly in, you’ll find it easy to navigate the streets on foot.

The easiest way to get around is by purchasing a transport pass that includes unlimited travel on public transport within the city center. You will also save money when travelling on buses or trams with a transport pass as well.

If you’re travelling outside the center, be sure to purchase your ticket and show it upon arrival at your destination. Finding vegan food in Prague might be easier than finding vegan transport, but don't worry! We've got you covered with our top picks for the best vegan eats in Prague!

Find Vegan Hotels In Prague

In addition to its vegan-friendly restaurants, Prague also has several great hotels that cater specifically to vegan and vegetarian guests and travellers.

When you're looking for a hotel in Prague, you want to make sure that the hotel is comfortable and welcoming. One of the first issues that come up with hotels is whether or not they offer vegan options on their menu. Your accommodation doesn't have to be completely vegan (after all, not every hotel has room service), but it should at least offer some kind of vegan-friendly option like a salad or vegetable soup.

Another important consideration is the breakfast buffet. Some hotels will offer a full vegan buffet with tofu scramble, soy yogurt, organic fruit, and more while others may just include one or two items like fruit and granola bars. If you're looking for an all-vegan experience, pay attention to what's offered at your potential accommodations.

How To Find Vegan Accommodation In Prague

When planning your trip, one of the most important aspects is finding accommodation. Fortunately, Prague is a vegan-friendly city and has plenty of options for finding vegan accommodation.

There are plenty of resources online that can help you find vegan accommodation in Prague. For example, on Airbnb, there are over 118 listings in the Czech Republic with at least one listing available in Prague. Another great resource to find vegan accommodation is Couchsurfing: There are currently 113 listings for Couchsurfer hosts in the Czech Republic and 27 listings specifically for Couchsurfers who have a place near Prague.

If you’re looking for more information on how to book a restaurant or hostel, check out our guide on how to choose a vegan-friendly hotel in Prague!

Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in the world; picturesque, magical and it captures your heart within minutes of setting foot there. It’s bohemian, alternative and wonderful! The people are friendly and polite and, to top it all off, Prague is incredibly vegan-friendly too! Rachida Brocklehurst reports…

Where to eat.

There are lots of totally vegan eateries in Prague, loads of vegetarian places that will naturally cater for vegans, and you’ll also find the odd vegan option on ‘normal’ menus and at sandwich shops! It really does make life much easier for visiting vegans to the city, and there is a noticeable openness to plant-based eating, not dissimilar from the great vegan capital itself, Berlin. Wherever you stroll in the city, you won’t be far away from some scrumptious vegan food.

100% Vegan places

Vegan’s prague.

Situated near the castle, this is the place to go to enjoy veganised authentic Czech meals. I recommend the tempeh and dumplings and the traditional soup! There’s something on the menu to suit everyone, and be sure to leave room for one of the raw cakes for dessert!

Food of Love

A couple of doors down, this hidden oasis focuses on raw food (try the cakes!) and an inviting and welcoming atmosphere, you won’t want to leave.

Here you’ll find a more mediterranean-style cuisine, with homemade bread and pasta. The owners are keen advocates of zero waste eating.

This global vegan chain never lets you down, and Prague’s LH is no different. There’s an Asian-inspired flavour, and plenty to enjoy from the buffet. Note – there are several Loving Huts throughout the city.

For a quick bite

While visiting such a pretty and historic city you may want to do a lot of eating on the go, rather than sitting down to a full meal. There are lots of places where you can either grab something quick to go and continue your city exploration, or you can spend a little time people watching with a tasty light bite. These are four of the best places to stop off at and tickle your tastebuds.

Veganland – OC Fenix

Another favourite for lovers of Asian food, pay by weight and in buffet format. There’s also a small shop, and, best of all, you’ll find several Veganland locations spread throughout the city.

Etnosvet Bistro

Head here for vegan hot dogs, cheeses and nibbles to keep you going as you explore Prague. There’s also a shop to buy snacks to take away too.

The Raw Deli

Here you can grab a green juice or smoothie, or why not indulge yourself with a raw chocolatey dessert… or maybe two?

My Raw Cafe

Raw cakes, raw sweets and, of course, lots of savoury options too – including a raw four cheese pizza!

Eating out at non-vegan places

The typical Czech cuisine is not really vegan-friendly – it’s quite meat heavy if I’m honest. So turning up at an authentic Czech restaurant might result in you seeing not much in the way of vegan meals! As usual, see if there is a vegetarian option, and use your initiative and creativity to veganise it. If you find yourself at a more touristic eatery, the old faithful traditional veggie pizza without cheese is always a great fall back to rely on.

The level of English in Prague is fantastic – pretty much everyone speaks and understands English, and to a very high level indeed. The Czech people are very sweet, polite and obliging, so if you find yourself in a bit of a pickle menu-wise, just explain that you’re vegan and what you don’t eat, and I’m sure the server will happily suggest something special for you. As ever, my top tip is to have some kind of idea what you want before asking; this makes it easier for everyone and you’re less likely to end up with linguistic confusion!

Handy phrases

As I’ve said before, the Czech people are very polite, and will always greet and say goodbye to you if you enter their shop, their café, or sometimes just in passing. It’s a really good idea to familiarise yourself with a couple of key phrases. The language has different sounds to English, so give yourself time to practise before your visit. I recommend listening to the pronunciations on YouTube or Google Translate.

  • Hello – Dobrý den
  • Goodbye – Na shledanou
  • Thank you – Děkuji

It’s always wise to know the basics to make sure you get what you order, so here are the top vegan phrases to know in Czech. A huge thank you to Žaneta, Happiness Manager at Food of Love for the translations.

  • I am vegan – Jsem vegan
  • I don’t eat meat, fish, eggs or dairy – Nejím maso, ryby, vejce, mléko ani mléčné produkty
  • With soya milk please – Se sojovým mlékem prosím
  • Please use olive oil and not butter – Prosím použijte olivový olej, ne máslo. (Použijte olivový olej namísto másla)
  • Without milk – Bez mléka
  • Without cheese – Bez sýru

Top six sites to visit

There’s always something to see, so these six are just to get you started!

  • The Astronomical Clock –  Get here about 10 to the hour to secure a good spot. As the clock strikes, you’ll see a short ceremony with 12 figurines ringing in the new hour. It gets busy, so get there early! Stand in front of the tower, opposite the clock face.
  • Prague Castle –  For history you simply must visit Prague Castle. There are beautiful views of the city, you can see the changing of the guard and explore the gardens and grounds. It’s worth paying for a ticket to have access to the palaces, cathedral, Powder Tower, Golden Lane and more.
  • Old Jewish Cemetery –  A sobering experience, but not one to be missed. You can also buy a ticket for the whole Jewish Quarter.
  • Charles Bridge –  If ever there was a romantic bridge, it’s here. Get to the bridge early in the morning or later at night to avoid tourists. There’s no traffic allowed so you can stroll and lose yourself in your surroundings.
  • Lobkowicz Palace –  Situated in the castle complex, head here to enjoy an exquisite lunchtime concert and experience some music by the favourite Czech composers.
  • Mala Strana –  This is the ‘Little Quarter’ of the city and one of the oldest and most picturesque areas of Prague. This is the place to take a gentle stroll, before propping yourself up in a terrace or street cafe as you indulge in a Czech beer and a spot of people watching.

There are so many wonderful sites to see make sure you book in advance so that you can see everything and get straight to the front of queues. At Isango! there is a great selection of guided tours at Prague Castle, the Jewish quarter, around the concentration camps, and other historical sites, as well as various food and river cruises.

Where to stay

There are no vegan only hotels yet in Prague, but I recommend Hotel Pod Vezi in the stunning Mala Strana district, only 10 minutes walk to the Vegan’s Prague and Food of Love restaurants. The service is fantastic, the hotel staff understand veganism, and were very helpful. They arranged for a soya milk carton to be in the room for our arrival, and they had soya milk in a jug at breakfast, along with fruit smoothies, breads and lots of fruit. There’s also an organic supermarket near the hotel, which has vegan snacks and tofu pates.

Discover Vegan Food in Prague: A Guide to the City’s Plant-Based Delights

Vegan traveler’s guide to prague: best plant-based eateries in the city, country life, bez konzervantov.

Top Vegan-Friendly Scandinavian Countries: Which One Takes the Lead?

traveler, I have had the opportunity to explore many countries and experience their vegan food scene. One region that has stood out to me as particularly vegan-friendly is Scandinavia. However, there are slight differences between the countries in the region, and I have been curious to find out which one takes the lead in terms of vegan options.

During my travels to Copenhagen, Denmark, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the vegan food options were abundant. From street food markets to high-end restaurants, there was no shortage of plant-based dishes to try. I remember visiting a restaurant that specialized in plant-based burgers, where I enjoyed a delicious lentil burger topped with avocado and vegan cheese. Another highlight whot dog stand in the middle of the city, where I tried a delicious sausage made from seitan.

When I visited Oslo, Norway, I found that the vegan food scene was not as extensive as in Denmark. However, I still managed to find some great options. One experience that stood out to me wbakery that I stumbled upon. I was delighted to find vegan versions of traditional Norwegian pastries such as cinnamon buns and apple cake. Another highlight wrestaurant that served a delicious mushroom risotto.

Stockholm, Sweden, was a real treat for me traveler. The city had a wide range of vegan food options, including a vegan food hall with several different vendors. I tried a vegan version of the traditional Swedish dish, meatballs, and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious they were. I also visited a vegan ice cream parlor and tried some unique flavors such as salted caramel and lingonberry.

Finding the Vegan Capital of Europe: A Journey Through Plant-Based Delights

Discovering prague’s culinary gems: a vegan traveler’s guide to the city’s iconic dishes and local delights.

traveler, Prague might not be the first destination that comes to mind when thinking about vegan-friendly cities. However, upon visiting the city, I discovered a plethora of vegan options that are not only delicious but also represent the city’s unique culture and history.

Traditional Czech Cuisine with a Vegan Twist

One of the best ways to experience a city’s culture is through its food. In Prague, traditional Czech cuisine is typically meat-heavy, but many restaurants are now offering vegan versions of classic dishes.

During my visit, I tried the vegan version of svíčková, a dish typically made with beef. The vegan version was made with seitan and served with dumplings and cranberry sauce. The seitan was tender and flavorful, and the dumplings were a perfect accompaniment.

Another traditional dish I tried was smažený sýr, which is a fried cheese sandwich. A local vegan restaurant offered a vegan version made with tofu that was crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. It was served with tartar sauce and fries, and it was one of the best meals I had during my trip.

International Vegan Cuisine

Prague also offers a variety of international vegan cuisine options, from Indian to Mexican to Italian.

One of my favorite meals was at an Indian restaurant that offered a vegan thali, which is a platter of various dishes. It included chana masala, aloo gobi, and dal makhani, all of which were flavorful and satisfying.

I also tried a vegan burrito at a Mexican restaurant that was filled with black beans, rice, guacamole, and salsa. It was a filling and delicious meal that satisfied my craving for Mexican food.

Local Vegan Delights

Aside from restaurants, Prague also has a few vegan bakeries and cafes that are worth a visit.

One bakery I visited offered vegan versions of traditional Czech pastries, such as kolaches and trdelník. The kolaches were filled with fruit and topped with a sweet glaze, while the trdelník was a cinnamon-sugar pastry that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Another cafe I visited offered vegan cakes and pastries, as well as coffee and tea. I tried a vegan carrot cake that was moist and delicious, and it paired perfectly with a cup of tea.

Final Thoughts

From traditional Czech dishes to international cuisine to local delights, there is something for every vegan traveler to enjoy. So if you’re planning a trip to Prague, be sure to check out these culinary gems that represent the city’s unique culture and history.

Trip Overview

Our 10-day vegan Prague and Budapest tour begins with a shared van from the airport in Prague to our hotel where check-in is at 2pm. We’ll have a welcome dinner to get acquainted the first night and our first full day includes a walking tour of the Old Town and the Jewish Quarter, lunch, and free time to explore.

The following days we’ll take the next parts of our walking tour and explore the left bank of the city and the Mala Strana (or ‘Lesser Quarter’) on Day 3. And some hidden gems of the city on Day 4 before we have lunch and the evenings free to pursue what interests you.

Day 5 of our trip, we make our way to Budapest by private van and stop for lunch in Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava, before arriving in Budapest for an optional group dinner. On Day 6 and 7, we discover Budapest’s two sides, starting with a walking tour whose highlights include Fisherman Bastion, the Parliament building and St. Stephen’s Basilica. The next day we take the city’s cog-wheel railway to the Buda Hills where we’ll ride on a different railway staffed almost entirely by children! A high tea at a beautiful cafe will top off our scheduled time on Day 7.

Day 8 and 9, we continue exploring Budapest and get to know more hidden spots of the city. Lunch, plenty of free time and optional group dinners will follow, before our trip concludes after breakfast on Day 10.

Interspersed with all the sightseeing and activities will be all the most well-loved vegan restaurants in your destination. You will never have to worry about what you’re going to eat on a Veg Jaunts and Journeys tour. All the restaurant research will be done for you, so you can have an interesting and exciting vacation, with some time to relax too.

Salvator Boutique Hotel Hotel Medos

Our journey begins with a transfer from the Prague airport via a shared van to our hotel. Check-in at the hotel is 2 pm, but for those who show up early, the hotel is centrally located for easy exploring and there’s also a vegan market across the street to check out. Our welcome dinner will be a vegan feast where everyone can get to know each other and also get a brief tour orientation to know what to expect in the coming days.

Our first full day will begin with a four-hour walking tour, The Best of Prague, Part 1. We’ll start at the Old Town, and keep your eye out, you don’t want to miss any details of the intricate astronomical clock or Prague Orloj, attached to the Old Town Hall. The clock was built in the 1380s and features automatons, spinning statues, and other incredible details. It shows the relative position of the Sun, Moon, Earth and constellations, tells the time and date, and the featured statues move when the clock strikes each hour!

Next we’ll head to the Jewish Quarter which lays out the poignant history of this community through the centuries. The tour ends in the New Town and a visit to Wenceslas Square, where the Velvet Revolution in 1989 brought about the end of communist rule in Czechoslovakia. After lunch, we’ll have the rest of the day free to explore the city. Feel free to join in for an optional group dinner later in the evening.

Meals Included Day 1: Dinner Day 2: Breakfast and lunch

On Day 3 of our tour, we’ll complete the Best of Prague walking tour with an exploration of the left bank sights. Beginning at the Library of Strahov Monastery, which has protected volumes of knowledge for centuries, we head through Castle Town. This is one of the largest ancient castle complexes in the world, covering almost seven football fields. Then we head over to the baroque Lesser Quarter and wander across Charles Bridge. After lunch, you can continue your exploration, and join the group for an optional dinner later if you wish.

Day 4 is the time to go deep into Prague and mine for the city’s hidden gems. Our walk will take us far into side streets and passageways less traveled. The sights are just as fabulous, if not more so, especially since you will see artworks and more that are just as monumental, but not usually open to visitors. The intrigue ends with lunch, after which you’ll have free time to spend as you wish. We’ll have an optional dinner arranged for our last night in Prague.

Meals Included Day 3: Breakfast and lunch Day 4: Breakfast and lunch

Day 5 of our trip will be a travel day as we make our way from Prague to Budapest by private van. For lunch, we will stop in Bratislava, Slovakia – so you really get three countries instead of just two on this tour! We’ll stretch our legs with a short tour around this delightful city. Keep an eye out for the quirky bronze statues that adorn Bratislava’s public spaces. Upon arrival in Hungary’s capital, you’re welcome to check in and call it a night or join the group for an optional late dinner.

Meals Included Day 5: Breakfast and lunch

On our first day in Budapest we’ll discover the two cities that created it – Buda and Pest. Separated by the Danube River, the hillier Buda features Buda Castle, Matthias Church, and Fisherman’s Bastion. Don’t let the name fool you, this UNESCO world heritage site is an awe-inspiring medieval fortification with amazing river views. Across the river, in the flatter plains of Pest, we’ll visit Parliament, Heroes’ Square, and St. Stephen’s Basilica, which features a relic from its patron, St. Stephen’s mummified hand. After our tour, you can check out the many museums and other sights in the city or relax by the Danube after lunch. We’ll enjoy an optional group dinner in the evening.

The 7th day of our adventure will feature less walking, as we experience a truly memorable series of rides. First, we’ll ride the Fogaskereku, Budapest’s cog-wheel railway, up to the Buda Hills which goes almost 870 feet high in around two miles. Then we’ll take a short walk through a quaint town to the Children’s Railway. And it is what it says – a leftover from the Soviet era, this full-sized train is operated by children (with adult supervision). After a jaunt on this railroad, a chairlift ride takes you back down. To top off this unique day, enjoy a vegan high tea at a breathtakingly elegant café.

Meals Included Day 6: Breakfast and lunch Day 7: Breakfast high tea

Day 8 of our tour we will dedicate to Art Nouveau, or Secession, as the movement is known in Hungary. During the late 1800s and the early 1900s, Budapest was thriving, and the city showed it off in their architecture – from homes to post offices to theaters, you will see glorious examples of design creativity in curves, floral designs, and structured decorations and ornaments. Some will be famous, and others will be delightful surprises. You can keep the discoveries going after lunch. Or you can enjoy some people watching over an excellent coffee at one of the many cafés. Then you can join us for an optional group dinner.

For our final full day, we’ll take a walk off the beaten track. Revealing hidden enchantments of Budapest, wonders will appear in the unlikeliest places. In particular, discover Budapest’s ruin bars, where creative entrepreneurs converted abandoned buildings and structures, many pre-war, into cool drinking spots. After lunch, the rest of the day is yours. Catch some more sights or perhaps take a dip in one of the many historic baths and enjoy the natural hot springs.

Join the group for a last optional dinner together to share our experiences as our tour ends after breakfast the next day.

Meals Included Day 8: Breakfast and lunch Day 9: Breakfast and lunch Day 10: Breakfast

Amount of walking: 8-10 miles per day (approximate)

Your tour cost includes hotel (based on single occupancy; no need to share a room unless you are traveling with a partner, family member, or friend); meals indicated in the itinerary; all sightseeing and activities mentioned above; all bus and train transportation between cities; city bus and/or subway transportation; all logistics taken care of for you.

I’ve been on 2 tours – Iconic Italy and just got back from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Both tours were wonderful – well-organized, great sights, extra vegan-inspired options, yummy food, and great people. I’m so glad I met Kim and got to experience traveling with compassion.

If you are a vegan traveller you can’t find a better company than Kim’s. She takes super good care of her groups, making sure that everyone’s experience is the best. Can’t recommend her highly enough! 5 stars

Looking for vegan food in Prague? I got you! Before doing some research, I didn’t think of Prague or the Czech Republic in general, as very vegan-friendly. But I couldn’t have been more wrong! Prague is pure bliss when it comes to vegan food. There are so many vegan places in Prague you will have a hard time choosing which one to pick! Read on to discover the 15 best vegan restaurants in Prague.

Vegan restaurants in Prague

Prague, Czech Republic

The famous Prague bridges seen from Letna Park

Prague is a top destination for conscious travelers in Europe whether you go in the summertime or visit Prague in winter . As a vegan, you won’t have any trouble finding delicious vegan food in any of the city its districts. According to Happycow, Prague has 32 fully vegan restaurants and 24 all-vegetarian restaurants in the city. That is a lot, considering the traditional meat-heavy Czech cuisine.

While Prague doesn’t come close to places like Berlin regarding the numbers of vegan restaurants you can sense the vegan trend is on the rise in Prague and is surely here to stay.

Just like in Greece , the Czechs have become more aware about nutrition and health benefits in recent years, paving the way for veganism to find its way to its people. Prague also has a thriving ex-pat scene and is said to be one of the best digital nomad destinations in the world.

With its many gorgeous sights and a plethora of fun and unique things to do , it’s also one of the most visited cities in Europe.

Without further ado, let’s dive into our guide to the best vegan restaurants in Prague!

Best vegan restaurants Prague

colorful building in Prague, Czech republic

Colorful buildings in Prague, Czech Republic

Here is a list of fifteen vegan restaurants I tried and tested myself. At the end of this post, you can find some other recommendations on more vegan restaurants in Prague as some restaurants were closed at our time of visit due to various factors like changing owners or being understaffed to have their doors open.

I also skipped the restaurants in the beautiful historic center of Prague because I visited the old town and attractions like the astronomical clock on a previous visit.

I also didn’t visit the area around Prague Castle, which means I didn’t try one of the most famous vegan restaurants in Prague, called Vegan’s. It gets some great reviews on Google but I heard a few other vegan bloggers saying Vegan’s is a bit overrated so I skipped it.

Here we go with the ones I did try outside of the busy touristy center of Prague!

vegan restaurants in Prague: Pastva

Eating vegan in Prague: Best vegan restaurant Prague:  Pastva restaurant

Pastva is a fully vegan restaurant in the Andel area of Prague. Contrary to what you might think, Pastva has nothing to do with pasta but actually means “grazing” in the Czech language.

Pastva stands out from other vegan restaurants in Prague because of its attractively curated menu. What do you think about a mushroom paté as an entrance? Or a rainbow lasagna as the main course?

Aside from that, The service here is outstanding and while the decor is simple, it’s also stylish and elegant. Pastva has it all if you are looking for a good (vegan) night out.

Vegetarian restaurant in Prague: Satsang

Vegetarian restaurant Prague: Satsang

Satsang is a heavenly vegetarian restaurant in Prague perfect for a night out with pro-dairy friends. The warm wooden interior of Satsang creates a cozy atmosphere and the jazzy music at the time of our visit was excellent.

It’s clear that Satsang is very popular amongst locals. We visited on a Friday and the place was fully booked. People swinging by in the hope of finding a table were kindly declined by the owner.

On the menu, you can find delicious Pad Thai, burritos, mac & cheese and curries. If you fancy a glass of wine be sure to try the Czech Vejbar wines!

Website: Satsang

Vegan Prague: Palo verde

Best vegan food Prague: Palo Verde

Palo Verde is an all-vegan restaurant located in the Salvator Boutique hotel in the Nove Mesto quarter of Prague. Aside from Pastva, We consider this to be the best vegan restaurant in Prague!

It’s the perfect place for lunch or diner and also for brunch. The menu changes from breakfast to lunch at 1 PM so come early to enjoy something of the breakfast menu to later on change to one of the amazing main dishes like the tofu ricotta tortellini or mushroom ravioli.

The only downside of our visit was the ginger thee who was rather bland but it was all forgotten when our amazing food arrived.

Website: Palo Verde

Chutnej restaurant, Prague, Czechia

Best vegan pizza in Prague: Chutnej

Chutnej is an all-vegan restaurant with two branches in the city, one in Vinohrady and one in Letna. They serve delicious vegan pizzas and burgers, Poutine, and also sell cashew cheese with different tastes like chili and dill.

We checked out the branch in Vinohrady, which is by far the coolest neighborhood in Prague by the way, and were pleasantly surprised by the cool alternative vibe and music at this location. The interior is minimalist and the space is decorated with beautiful green plants that are planted in tin cans.

The artichoke pizza is recommended. The fried capers make the taste insanely awesome and the fresh basil gives it a fresh touch. It was also the thinnest pizza dough I had ever seen. Be prepared to eat with your hands since they don’t provide cutlery.

Website: Chutnej

Sandokan Bistro

Sandokan bistro Prague

Vegan Prague: Sandokan Bistro

Sandokan Bistro is a small eatery in the Vinohrady area in Prague. It was the place that surprised the most during our latest trip because of the outstanding fresh and tasty food.

While it is advertised on their website as a buffet, that is actually not quite true. At our time of visit, they served around ten different dishes, mainly Indian-inspired but also with other Asian influences. This is maybe a consequence of the pandemic, not allowing buffets, but we have seen buffets at the locations so maybe they just changed their concept.

On the menu, you can find Thali, Palak Tofu and Bun Cha. We tried the Bun Cha and it was delicious packed with deliciously marinated faux meat and fresh herbs. We could tell that the place is quite popular amongst locals because there was quite a line at lunchtime with people picking up the food they ordered.

Website: Sandokan Bistro

Strecha Bistro

Strecha Bistro: vegan restaurant in Prague

traditional vegan Czech food Prague: Strecha

Strecha is the place you want to go if you are looking for a homey and comfy setting serving vegan versions of traditional Czech dishes. The interior is modest but cozy and at the time of our visit, they were playing alternative music from the nineties which catapulted us back to our early teen years.

The best thing about Strecha is that it is a social enterprise. They offer employment to people who have just served a sentence and homeless people with the aim of reintegrating them into society.

On the menu you can find traditional Czech dishes like dumplings, goulash, and soy schnitzel and they also serve vegan ribs! I will surely check that out the next time I’m in Prague!

Website: Strecha Bistro

→ PRO TIP: Did you know that the tap water in Prague is safe ? No need to buy plastic bottles, just make sure to take an eco-friendly water bottle!

Forrest Bistro (permanently closed since 2023)

Forrest Bistro, Prague

Prague vegan restaurants: Forrest Bistro

If you’re looking for a cozy spot to spend a Sunday lunch or brunch with friends then Forrest Bistro is the perfect place. Hidden away in Londynska street in Vinohrady, Forrest Bistro offers a mix of traditional Czech and Asian-inspired dishes such as mushroom paté and fall rolls as an entrance and Asian fare like pho and noodles as main courses.

While the place seems to lack a little bit of natural light when you first arrive, that is soon made up by the white and wood interior and the calm and genuine atmosphere with highly attentive staff.

Be sure to check out the delicious vegan pies and cakes at the counter, that is, if you still have some room left in your belly after trying the tasty appetizers and main courses! For the fans: they also sell Kombucha.

Vegan restaurants in Prague: Mooi

Vegan fast food in Prague: Mooi

MOOI is a vegan kebab and fries place in Prague New Town. I was intrigued by this name because MOOI is a dutch word and I come from the dutch side of Belgium. Nonetheless, MOOI is run by Czechs but they wanted to offer good fries and Belgian fries of course have a reputation of being the best.

MOOI got some great reviews on Happycow, and they were not lying. I ordered the Akropolis Pita and it was large, flavorful and savory, especially garlicky, but I love garlic and it blended beautifully together with the salad and the faux meat.

I ordered my pita and fries through the delivery website Wolt and was pleasantly surprised by the fact that they not only sent me the pita and fries that I ordered but also added a delicious pumpkin soup completely free of charge! Thank you, MOOI! You’re the best!

Website: MOOI

Vegan restaurant Herbivore in Prague

Vegan restaurant Prague: Herbivore

Herbivore is a vegan bistro and food shop in Prague New Town by the Vlata river. If you are lucky, you can eat your lunch on the benches just in front of the store watching boats passing by on the river in the midday sun.

There is not much seating space inside Herbivore so it is also an excellent choice for take-out. On the menu, you can find dishes like eggplant curry, pumpkin pasta, or schnitzel with potato salad and they also offer a fairly priced daily menu consisting of a soup and a main dish.

At the shop, they offer a variety of products ranging from plant milk, vegan cheese, vegan ice cream, and a lot of alternatives for meat.

Dhaba Beas, vegan chain restaurant in Prague

Vegan chain restaurant in Prague: Dhaba Beas

There are a LOT of vegan food chain restaurants in Prague but if you are looking for the best one then it is without a doubt Dhaba Beas. Dhaba Beas has eleven branches in Prague and you will surely pass by one walking around the city.

The food is mainly Indian-inspired and on the buffet, you can find curries, grilled, steamed, and boiled vegetables, an assortment of rice and noodles dishes, and a salad and dessert bar. While Dhaba Beas states to be a vegetarian restaurant, most of the dishes are actually vegan, aside from maybe the yogurt-based dressing at the salad bar and the desserts.

Dhaba Beas is your best choice for a quick lunch! Not only is the food flavorful and as fresh as can be, eating here is also good for your wallet since you only pay around € 1 for 100 grams.

Website: Dhaba Beas

Slow Café, Prague

Vegan breakfast Prague: Slow Cafe

Reported closed August 2023. You can now check them out at Bistro Karel in the Troja Labyrinth Gardens near Prague Zoo.

Slow Cafe is a vegetarian lunch and brunch spot in Vinohrady. This is the perfect place if you are a digital nomad who likes to travel slowly and you are looking for a place to get some work done.

The decor here is simple with white walls and wooden furniture and the atmosphere is quiet and friendly and the slow attitude fits the name of the café perfectly. You can take a seat upstairs but there’s also a large space in the cellar where you have fewer distractions.

There were three vegan options on the menu at our time of visit, a porridge bowl, a quinoa bowl and vegan brownies. You can also pick your favorite plant milk (oat, soy, coconut,…) to go with your coffee!

Website: Slow Cafe

Linh's vegan corner

Linh's vegan corner Prague

Vegan delivery Prague: Vietnamese vegan Banh mi from Linh’s vegan corner.

Out of all the vegan delivery options in Prague, I found Linh’s vegan corner one of the best! The place does get some mixed reviews but they have a cool ridiculously large online menu on Wolt . With so many options, it is hard to choose but I can tell you for sure that the Banh Mi Tofu and the Black Magic Udon are good choices.

Aside from the many food options, Linh’s vegan corner also sells bubble tea, Kombucha, homemade lemonades, fresh juices and smoothies and even vegan ice cream!

Website: Linh’s vegan corner

Vegan fast food @ Forky's Prague

Vegan fast food in Prague @ Forky’s

I have seen many bloggers write raving reviews about Forkey’s so I was excited to go but unfortunately, with expectations so high, I was a bit disillusioned when I arrived. This is a typical fast-food joint, there is nothing much to say about the interior and the place was crowded and noisy at our time of visit.

That was luckily soon made up by a very tasty burger and fries. The cheeseburger was delicious and the sauce on it tasted like “giant sauce”. Giant sauce is a sauce you can get at the Belgian fast-food restaurant chain Quick and most Belgians love it so much they try to figure out the secret recipe at home but they never really get it right.

So, in the end I was really happy to have found a vegan burger in the world, with something so close resembling giant sauce, that I had to put Forky’s in my top list of vegan restaurants in Prague!

Forky’s is an international chain and has two branches in Prague.

Website: Forky’s

Blue Vegan Pig donuts

Blue pig donuts Prague

Vegan donuts @ Blue pig donuts

Looking for vegan donuts in Prague? Then the Blue vegan pig shop is the place to be. You can find the Blue vegan pig shop in the Vinohrady neighborhood.

If you have ever visited the vegan donut chain Brammibal’s in Berlin, then you know what good vegan donuts taste like. Having tried vegan donuts in different countries myself over the past years I have to say that Blue vegan pig donuts comes as a close second!

You can go to their cute little store on Francouzská street or order them through Wolt . All donuts are freshly handmade every single day!

Website: Blue vegan pig shop

Loving Bistro

Loving bistro Prague

Prague vegan food: Loving bistro

Not to be confused with Loving Hut, the vegan restaurant chain owned by the dubious cult leader Ching Hai, Loving Bistro is a small Czech vegan chain offering vegan Asian fast food.

While it can’t really match Dhaba Beas regarding quality of the food, these bright and airy eateries are a nice place to sit down and take a rest while grabbing some sushi and spring rolls to recharge before you continue exploring the city.

You can find one branch in Letna and one branch in Zizkov.

More vegan restaurants in Prague

Unfortunately, a lot of restaurants I wanted to try were closed during my trip for various reasons. Below you can find a list of vegan restaurants we really wanted to try but were not able to.

  • Moment : Unfortunately this restaurant was in the process of changing owners during our visit so we didn’t get a chance to eat here. According to their Facebook page, it did reopen again four weeks after our visit so be sure to give it a try when you are visiting Prague. It is a top-rated vegan restaurant in Praha 2. Let us know how it was!
  • Sabotage : Sabotage is a small vegan bistro serving hot dogs, burgers and sandwiches. It is top-rated on Hapycow. Unfortunately, we noticed too late that they were closed on Saturday and Sunday so we didn’t make it to Sabotage.
  • Bo de Tam : Vietnamese vegan restaurant far out of the city center of Prague. You can find this little restaurant in Prague’s little Hanoi, a large Vietnamese enclave and market. Tours are going there because apparently, the area is a maze and hard to navigate. Tours were not running when we were there, probably due to covid so we kept this for our next Prague trip.
  • Belzepub : Punky vegan burger joint. Closed on Saturday and Sunday so we had to skip it.
  • Schromazdiste : Beer pub with vegan Czech cuisine. Closed on Monday and Tuesday.
  • Eaternia : Burger and hot dog place. Skipped it during this trip because of an overload of burgers and fries and craving healthy for but on the list for a next trip!
  • Mlnsa Kavka : Social enterprise offering vegan food. Were in the middle of finding a new manager at our time of visit.
  • Dosa Dosa : Dosa Dosa is a vegan restaurant located near St Nicholas Church known for its authentic and filling South Indian cuisine. The restaurant specializes in dosas, which are thin, crispy, fermented pancakes filled with various mixtures!
  • Share Sweet and Espresso Bar : This is a coffee bar run by the people from the Palo Verdo restaurant mentioned earlier in the post. It’s one of the best vegan restaurants in Prague so the coffee shop will definitely be on the list for my next visit to Prague!

Where to stay in Prague

The center of Prague has some beautiful sights and attractions, however, I prefer to stay outside the center in one of the more local neighborhoods like Zizkov, Vinohrady, and Karlin. While there are many hotels in Prague, there’s also an abundance of cool apartments and studios that are very comfortable and come with a kitchen.

Here are some great accommodation options!

  • Botanique Hotel : This hotel in Karlin is making efforts to do good for the planet. Toiletries are organic, they make efforts to reduce plastic, there’s an electric car charger and they offer vegan and vegetarian options for breakfast.
  • Limewash apartment : Lovely apartment in Vrsovice with an excellent location near great restaurant options like Satsang, Chutnej, and Slow café.
  • Flat with Garden in Vinohrady : Cute flat in Vinohrady with amazing restaurants like Moment and Sandokan vegan bistro in walking distance.

Best Prague Vegan Food + Offline Map & Guide!

Traditional Czech food is a real meat-fest, so we’re thrilled that the vegan scene in Prague is growing so fast. Prague vegan restaurants are still a bit hit-or-miss though – we’ve had a lot of bad meals in Prague. Use our guide to avoid the worst and taste the best of Prague vegan food.

What’s in our Guide to Vegan Food in Prague?

On our recent trip to Prague, we spent more than a week exploring the sights and sounds of this magical city.

We were shocked to see just how much tourism has grown since our last trip to Prague four years ago. The sights haven’t changed much — most of them are hundreds of years old — but the prices sure have!

What was once a cheap city break has become almost as pricey as Paris or London .

More money and more tourists means more vegan food though, so we can’t complain too much! The old standbys of Prague’s animal-friendly eateries are still around and many more are sprouting up around the city.

Lucky for us, though we were travelling with Stephen’s parents, they were very patient as we dragged them around to explore the ins and outs of Prague vegan food.

I loved having their omnivore opinions to add to our own!

Prague Districts and City Layout

A quick note before we start in with the tasty vegan food!

Prague is divided into numbered districts (much like the Parisian arrondisements), so we’ve organized our guide to vegan food in Prague accordingly.

Here’s a quick trip through the districts of Prague that we mention:

The city centre, including both the west bank of the Vltava River, where Prague Castle is located, and the Old Town, on the east bank.

Includes the New Town, just south of the Old Town, and the trendy Vinohrady district. If you’re trying to decide where to stay in Prague , this might be a good area, since many of the best vegan restaurants are here and in Prague 3.

Stretches east from the city centre, non-touristy and with easy tram connections to the centre. We stayed here on our last visit, in Zizkov.

A huge district. The section directly south of Prague 1, on the west bank of the river, is a terrific place to walk and enjoy the view.

North of the river and the Old City. Tourists don’t come here very much.

North of Prague 3, runs along the south bank of the river.

Vegan Food in Prague 1, Staré Město / Old Town Area

Country life.

Vegan cafeteria at Melantrichova 463/15, Staré Město

vegan prague

Country Life is an old-school vegan cafeteria, with a buffet of hot entrees and a salad bar. They also operate a chain of small vegan-friendly grocery stores.

When we arrived, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was in a hospital canteen or the high school cafeteria, since you take a plastic tray and serve yourself from the long buffet. The indifferent staff, who didn’t seem keen to answer our questions or help us in any way, really added to the whole “institutional cafeteria” vibe.

The food was fine, but it’s the kind of place that gives plant-based food a bad reputation. I was embarrassed that it was the first vegan meal we shared with my omnivore in-laws in Prague.

We ate: I don’t really remember what we got from the buffet. Nothing exciting, that’s for sure.

Forky’s

Vegan burgers and salads at Veleslavínova 93/10, Staré Město

vegan prague

After a few dissatisfying vegan meals in Prague, I finally decided we better go somewhere I knew would be great. I first discovered Forky ‘s, a small vegan chain, when I was housesitting in Brno and was happy to go back.

Forky’s Burgers are fantastic, made with fresh ingredients and encased in perfectly toasted buns. Skip the fries though — both times I’ve had them they’ve been cold and tasteless. Forky’s also offers a range of noodle and salad bowls, plus fresh salads.

We ate: Forky’s Cheez Burger, with vegan cheddar that actually tastes like cheddar! The Buddha Broccoli Bowl, which was bland, with too many noodles and not enough toppings. The Superbowl, a huge salad bowl with toppings you get to choose, is the best value on the menu!

Lehká hlava / Clear Head

Vegetarian with vegan options at Boršov 280/2, Staré Město

vegan prague

This was the huge surprise of our trip. Somehow, I missed Clear Head in all my foodie research — Stephen’s dad was the one to suggest it. The restaurant was so busy, we had to sit in a little annex, which ended up feeling like a private dining experience for four.

We all agreed that the food at Clear Head was some of the best we had in Prague. If you’re planning on going for dinner, make a reservation!

We ate: The burger, which was a little bun-heavy, but otherwise very good. The pasta with meatballs, which were plump and chewy, if not particularly flavourful.

Vegan chain at Spálená 2121/22, Nové Město & 4 other locations in Prague

vegan prague

If you’re a frequent reader of my vegan guides, you’ll know that I’ve never found a Loving Hut I liked very much.

This branch, near Wenceslas Square, is one of the better ones. It is bright and modern inside, with friendly staff who were happy to answer our questions. They have a small buffet, which looked tasty, plus a range of Vietnamese-influenced items you can order off the menu.

We ate: Big plates of Vietnamese noodles (bun chay) with tofu skin. It was filling but lacked the flavourful sauce that you get on bun chay in Vietnam. We also had deep-fried spring rolls from the buffet which looked better than they tasted.

Creme de la Creme

Omnivore ice cream shop at Husova 231/12, Staré Město & Národní 23, Staré Město

vegan prague

This seems to be the year that vegan ice cream comes into its own. Lately, there are a few scoops of vegan deliciousness in almost every ice cream freezer we peer into.

I’m pretty picky about my vegan ice cream though – I can honestly say the vegan options at Creme de la Creme were fantastic. A welcoming ice cream shop just a few steps from the old town square, it’s a great place to escape Prague’s crowds and cool off.

We ate: The vegan salted peanut butter ice cream, which was a celebration of caramelly yum. The chocolate was creamy, dark, and dreamy.

Vegan Food in Prague 1, Malá Strana / Prague Castle Area

Vegan’s prague.

Vegan restaurant at Nerudova 221/36, Malá Strana

vegan prague

If you look south from the Prague Castle gardens, you can spot Vegan’s Prague hiding in the rooftops below. They serve veganized versions of Czech specialities, plus salads, burgers and a few international dishes. It’s the perfect place to eat after your morning visit to the castle.

We ate: The cabbage rolls, which were almost as good as my Russian grandmother used to make. A special, which was two nut- and seed-based patties accompanied by heaps of creamy mashed potatoes.

An outstanding salad bowl, chock full of whole peeled almonds, avocados, peppers and other tasty vegetables. Traditional Svíčková with dumplings and smoked tempeh. Also, the raspberry lemonade was full of fresh crushed raspberries. Yum.

Vegan Food in Prague 2

Cafe moment.

Vegan cafe at Slezská 62

vegan prague

Cafe Moment is a homey little eatery with friendly staff and cute decor.

My memory of Cafe Moment from our first visit to Prague a few years ago was hazy — I dreamily recalled a slice of heavenly hazelnut cake. Our second visit, after drinking many beers at the Prague Beer Festival , has created new tasty memories for us to take home.

We ate: The Shawarma, a fresh pita stuffed with juicy fake meat called “robi” and drizzled with a garlicky soyannaise. The chocolate cake, which was rich, crumbly, and filling.

The other desserts we had, a cookie and a slice of apple pie, were OK, but nowhere near as great as the cake.

Vegan Food in Prague 3

Donut shop with lots of vegan options at nám. J. z Poděbrad 1658/11, Vinohrady

vegan prague donuts

Don’t miss! Great news! There is such a thing as to-die-for-vegan donuts — and they live in Prague.

We are vegan donut snobs, trying them all and being repeatedly disappointed. They’re never as good as the omnivore donuts we ate BV (before veganism).

At the aptly named Donut Shop , we ordered one donut, expecting to be disappointed yet again. Instead, we gobbled it down and immediately came back for a box of four more.

Stephen’s sweet-toothed father approved of the donuts, so get ready to impress your omni friends!

We ate: All the vegan donuts! Then we went back the next morning to try the chocolate-drenched cinnamon bun, which was, arguably, even better. God, I want one now!

Vegan lunch restaurant at Šrobárova 2159/9, Šrobárova

vegan prague

Don’t miss! This independent vegan restaurant, near the Flora shopping centre, is totally worth the tram ride!

Incruenti is hidden on a residential street and caters mainly to locals. They have a changing daily menu with just three items, so you get what you get. But, if your experience is anything like ours was, what you get will be great.

Note that Incruenti is only open from 11am–3pm except on Wednesday, when they open for dinner as well, from 6pm–11pm.

We ate: What we were given! Stephen had a creamy plate of risotto. I ate a classic Czech meal made vegan — beet patties with perfect mashed potatoes.

Vegan chain in the food court at Flora Mall at Vinohradská 2828/151 Also at 5, Náměstí Míru 1220/3, Praha 2 & Plzeňská 8, Anděl, Prague 5

vegan prague

We spotted this little vegan stand in the Flora shopping centre food court and were happy to see a vegan option for hungry shoppers. There are a few other Vegg Go locations around Prague, too. They offer fresh salads, burgers, soups, snacks, and desserts.

We ate: The Vegg Burger Protein, which was a perfectly fine burger, if not terribly exciting.

Vegan Pizza in Prague 7

Pizza letná.

Omnivore take-away pizza with vegan cheese option at Haškova 3

vegan prague

Pizza Letna is an omnivore take-away pizza joint — grab your pie and walk to nearby Letna Park for a picnic.

The only speciality vegan topping they have is vegan cheese, which we didn’t order, because we’ve never had a vegan pizza cheese we liked. The crust was great, but unless you love vegan cheese or are a pizza die-hard, it’s not really worth the trek.

Vegan Pizza in Prague 8

Pizzeria manna.

Omnivore traditional pizza with vegan cheese option at Urxova 483/5, Karlín

It is an unfussy old neighbourhood restaurant that, to be honest, we really didn’t like! Pizzeria Manna still gets rave reviews from vegans online though.

On our visit a couple of years ago, we ordered a vegan pizza and were delivered a pizza with ham on it. Granted, they happily fixed the mistake. Sadly, their vegan pizza smothered in sticky oily vegan “cheese” wasn’t very good.

Still, vegans keep going back and raving about it, so maybe we just had a bad experience. Let us know if you’ve been there recently!

Vegan Hot Chocolate in Prague 5

Omnivore old world cafe at Vítězná 124/5, Malá Strana, Smíchov

prague vegan

If you want to experience the atmosphere of an old world Prague café, where philosophers, poets, and revolutionaries would gather to discuss their world-changing ideas, Cafe Savoy is a great place to do it. The only problem is, they have next-to-nothing for vegans.

I only included them in this vegan guide to Prague because of their incredible traditional Czech hot chocolate, which can be made vegan.

To get it, order the mocha with almond milk. This is a combination of melted Valhrona 70% dark chocolate, almond milk, and strong espresso. If you’ve never had hot chocolate like this before, prepare to be blown away!

We hope this guide to vegan food in Prague helps you fill your belly with delicious meals! Let us know in the comments if you have questions, updates, or thoughts on anything vegan in Prague!

Where you get vegan Czech food in Prague

Shromaždiště.

Address: 13 Krásova Street, Prague 3 GPS: 50.08292, 14.44717 https://shromazdiste.business.site/

Žižkov is the Prague district with the highest concentration of pubs. So it is no wonder that a pub specifically for vegans has found its place here. If you want to try in Prague traditional Czech food in a vegan version - goulash, svíčková, stuffed dumplings, chicken with paprika sauce... or fries in several ways and beer on tap, Shromaždiště, just a short walk from the Prague main train station, is the place for you. Just check the opening hours, which are limited on some days.

Moment Vegan Bistro & Cafe    UPDATE 2024: temporarily closed

Address: Slezská 62, Prague 2 GPS: 50.07618, 14.44732 https://www.momentbistro.cz/

A cosy, welcoming vegan café in Prague combined with a bistro, which has been taken over by the crew from the vegan restaurant Palo Verde (see tips further) and given a whole new face. Compared to Palo Verde, the menu is dominated by vegan versions of traditional Czech meals like “svíčková”, goulash or stuffed dumplings. Including draft beer. The bistro is also renowned for its delicious vegan breakfasts and desserts.

Fast & street food in a vegan style

Address: Letohradská 50, Prague 7 GPS: 50.09813, 14.42443 https://www.chutnej.cz/

A two-storey vegan restaurant in Prague focusing mainly on veggie burgers, vegan pizza and lasagne. The lunch menu is also available during lunchtime with soup. In the summer, they also lend a picnic basket and blanket so you can enjoy your meal in the nearby Letna Park overlooking the whole of Prague. Friendly and fast service is just the icing on the cake - by the way, you can also have desserts and great coffee here.

Best vegan food in Prague: Chutnej

Forky's Prague

Address: 2 branches Veleslavínova 93/10, Prague 1, GPS: 50.08775, 14.41633 Milady Horákové 16, Prague 7, GPS: 50.0994, 14.43095 https://www.forkys.eu/

Forky's is an international fast food vegan restaurant chain with two branches in Prague. It focuses mainly on vegan burgers and street food, but on the menu you can also find superbowls composed of so-called superfoods. The permanent menu is expanded with daily specials. Forky's is great proof that plant-based food is not just for vegans - everyone will enjoy delicious vegan food in Prague there.

Best vegan food in Prague: Forky´s

Address: U Rajské zahrady 14, Prague 3 GPS: 50.08248, 14.44428 http://www.belzepub.cz/

Although vegan burgers are on the menu at many vegan restaurants and bistros in Prague, for the best ones we recommend heading to this little punk pub in Žižkov. In addition to the burger, you can also get a fried-no-cheese, mac-no-cheese, no-fish with potato salad and more. With beer, of course, because without it, a pub is not a pub!

Best vegan food in Prague: Belzepub

Sabotage vegan bistro

Address: Kodaňská 651/22, Prague 10 GPS: 50.07074, 14.45837 https://sabotage-food.cz/

Little time, big hunger? Pop into this bistro for a hot dog, burger, wrap, sandwich or nachos and problem solved. Moreover, you can leave with not only a satisfied stomach but also a hat, T-shirt or patch - as the bistro has its own merch.

Best vegan food in Prague: Sabotage

More than just a vegan restaurant

Social bistro střecha.

Address: Křemencova 7, Prague 1 GPS: 50.07846, 14.41729 https://www.bistrostrecha.cz/en/

Střecha is not just a place to enjoy one of the best vegan food in Prague and good fair-trade coffee. What makes it different from other vegan restaurants in Prague is that it tries to give a new chance to homeless or post-prison people through employment and other help. Moreover, this is another place where you can order typical Czech food in a vegan version- for example, goulash, dumplings, schnitzels and even ribs. The meals are simple but tasty, and well-priced. We recommend a visit already because of that unique concept. In addition, you can also help yourself by purchasing a so-called “zavěšený oběd”, allowing a person in need to eat at the bistro for free.

Best vegan food in Prague: Střecha

Address: Nádražní 3, Prague 5 GPS: 50.06559, 14.40764 https://www.eterniasmichov.com/

Eaternia is located in the former malthouse, where concerts are regularly held, skateboarders run wild on the mini ramp and the place is generally alive. It's already clear from this that you won't find fine dining here, but a menu full of vegan burgers, hot dogs, langos or fried (no)cheese. Simply put honest junk food made from local ingredients in a vegan version. Moreover, with nice prices. This original eatery with some of the best vegan food in Prague and a friendly, completely casual atmosphere should simply not be missing from your must-visit list.

Best vegan food in Prague: Eaternia

Pay-by-weight vegan restaurants and bistros

Loving bistro and loving hut prague.

Address: more branches in Prague, see the overview on the website https://www.lovinghut.cz/ https://www.lovingbistro.cz/

Loving Hut may sound familiar to you because it is an international restaurant chain. And without doubt one of the best vegan restaurants in Prague! Like its sister restaurant Loving Bistro, they are located mainly in shopping centres. Both are vegan restaurants based on a self-service buffet concept, where you pay by the weight of your meal. The daily menu is complemented by a permanent offer of mainly Asian dishes such as pho, rolls or sushi. For a quick, healthy lunch, Loving Hut is the perfect place!

Best vegan food in Prague: Loving Hut

Dhaba Beas Prague

Address: more branches in Prague, see the overview on the website https://dhababeas.cz/

Dhaba Beas in Prague is a chain of vegetarian and vegan restaurants that is definitely not to be missed in our selection. As with Loving Hut, Dhaba Beas are self-service restaurants where you can order anything from the daily menu according to your taste and hunger, have your food weighed at the cash register and pay accordingly. The dishes are mainly based on traditional Indian, Vietnamese and Thai cuisine, but there is also Czech cuisine. Dhaba Beas is the ideal choice if you are looking in Prague for a quick, quality and at the same time affordable meal.

Sandokan vegan bistro

Address: Korunní 81, Prague 2 GPS: 50.07551, 14.45143 https://sandokanprague.cz/

A small cosy vegan bistro in Prague where even non-vegans can enjoy fresh vegan food. Especially if you like Indian food. The menu changes every day, and the bistro works on the principle of the self-service buffet, so the price depends on the amount you order. There is also a salad bar. A great choice for a reasonably priced vegan lunch! As a bonus to your meal, you will also get a dose of positive energy from the wonderful owner.

Best vegan food in Prague: Sandokan

An Veganteria

Address: OC Stromovka, Veletržní 24, Prague 7 GPS: 50.10219, 14.43072 https://anveganteria.choiceqr.com/

Do you love Asian food? We recommend going to the Stromovka shopping centre. Yes, you read it right. Although restaurants that are part of shopping malls are often considered inferior, this is certainly not the case here. An Veganteria will surprise you not only with its wide buffet offer but also with its pleasant ambience and friendly service. You can also order from the classic menu. Once you come here for a meal, you will definitely agree with us that this is one of the best vegan restaurants in Prague.

Besides Eaternia, this is another of the best vegan restaurants in Prague - Smichov. While Eaternia is a place where it's still alive and is suitable mainly for junk food lovers, Pastva is a stylish, quieter vegan restaurant ideal for a family lunch, celebration or even dinner for two. It offers a daily lunch menu and several desserts, plus a fine-tuned permanent menu combining different flavours, including Asian ones. Try the homemade mushroom pate as an appetizer and the lasagna as a main course!

One interesting fact: Palo Verde is located in the Salvator Boutique Hotel, a vegan-friendly hotel. The perfect place to stay when visiting Prague, isn't it?

No matter whether for vegan breakfast, lunch or coffee with dessert, which they bake themselves. And what does “dosa” actually mean? Address: Veletržní 57, Prague 7 GPS: 50.10087, 14.42657 https://www.ezrasbagels.com/

Just as everyone knows “chlebíček” in the Czech Republic, in America you won't meet anyone who doesn't know what a bagel is. But you don't have to go all the way to New York for great vegan bagels. Just pop into Veletržní Street and get one of the bagels on the permanent menu, or build your own. Interesting fact? The couple behind the business are from America and the idea to start a bagel bistro came from a craving for a proper bagel during pregnancy. They couldn't find a perfect one in Prague at the time, so they decided to make their own.

Why Go Vegan

Vegan Guide to Prague, Czech Republic

vegan food tour prague

I had always thought of Czech as a meat and potato heavy country, and while this still holds true, the abundance of vegan and vegan friendly restaurants in Prague really excited and surprised us.

We really loved our time in Prague, and with so many vegan restaurants in the city, it truly made our week that much more memorable.

This was our first time there, and we were definitely not disappointed by the choices. Our days consisted of eating, sight seeing, eating again, strolling, finishing up dinner, and then taking cake home. For blogging purposes of course.

Here is our Vegan Guide to Prague.

DSC00858

Puro is a completely vegan cafe in Prague serving tasty soups, sandwiches, salads, desserts, fresh juices, and coffee. Cody and I visited a few times in the morning for a quick bite before starting our day.

We also picked up a few sandwiches, a tiramisu, and chia seed pudding to go for our bus ride to Berlin.

DSC00852

We tried their toasted pesto sandwich with violife cheese, greens, and tomatoes, as well as their cheese and bologna bagel, a nice warm parsnip soup, cappuccino, and raw snickers bars.

DSC00854

Puro is a perfect place to stop and fuel up before heading out into bustling Prague.

DSC01019

Plevel is a vegan and raw restaurant with 2 locations in Prague. This warm, inviting and quirky restaurant serves veganized renditions of Czech food. We visited twice and both times the food was great.

DSC01011

The menu changes often so patrons are able to try several different dishes if they choose to visit more than once. The burger was very tasty as was their Czech dumpling dish.

VEGAN’S PRAGUE

DSC00890

Vegan’s Prague is located in a beautiful space on the top 2 floors of an old building. The rooftop floor is reached via a spiral staircase, and if you are lucky, you can sit at a table outside to admire a beautiful romantic view of the old city.

DSC00895

This restaurant does a vegan take on traditional Czech cuisine, and although we felt the portions were quite small, the food was very tasty.

DSC00896

They also serve burgers if you are looking for a casual western meal.

DSC01031

Once we discovered that Moment was across the street from where we were staying, we visited everyday before heading into the city.

Vegan Guide to Prague

Their dinner menu changes daily, and they have a nice selection of cakes. Coffees, teas, and alcoholic beverages are also served.

DSC01147

DO try the seitan and cheese bagel. And grab an anti-fur sticker from the counter!

DSC_3075

Incruenti is brand new on the vegan block, but we’re pretty positive they are here to stay.

vegan food tour prague

This restaurant has a hipster vibe minus the pretension. Surrounded by residential apartment buildings, the back patio is constructed from repurposed wood pallets-including the tables, the herb garden gives it a nice green touch, and the grumpy looking Persian cat watching you eat from his/her window just completes the experience.

DSC01217

DO try the homemade ravioli, and the cashew cream stuffed figs garnished with pistachios and a balsamic reduction.

SWEET SECRET OF RAW

DSC01134

Sweet secret of raw is a raw vegan dessert cafe with the exception of one cake that contains honey.

COUNTRY LIFE

Vegan Guide to Prague

Country Life is a specialty bio food shop that carries several vegan items from soy or coconut yogurts, to vegan vegetable pates, to vegan sausages, baked bread, and vegan power bars.

DSC00996

They also run a restaurant around the corner that is buffet style (by weight) and all the food is vegan. They sell raw vegan ice cream bars in the restaurant as well.

DSC00985

Pastva is a stylish vegan resto serving up bistro style food. Lentil loaf with potato salad, king mushroom on a bed of mashed cauliflower and potato, are just a few of the dishes to try here.

Vegan Guide to Prague

Pastva serves 3-5 new dishes daily as well as having a regular menu. The atmosphere is laid back and comfortable.

There are 3 Loving Hut locations in Prague. The food here is buffet style and by weight, but you can also order from the menu.

DSC01125

We especially enjoyed the Zborovska location run by a Vietnamese family where we joyfully lapped up a vegan phô soup.

I LIKE VEGGIE TOURS

If you have a limited amount of time in Prague, we highly recommend taking a vegan tour with I Like Veggie Tours. This is a walking food tour, and it is quite a bit of fun.

I Like Veggie Tour

Rawcha was our first stop on the veggie tour. We started lite with a beautifully presented raw cream of mushroom soup.

Raw Mushroom Soup

This raw vegan restaurant also serves pizza, mushroom burgers, zucchini noodles, teas, and fresh juices.

DSC00943

Maitrea is a vegetarian restaurant with vegan options. The space has 2 levels, and we dined on the lower level both times we visited.

The main floor resembles a regular cafe, but the lower level feels as if you are underground in a serene cave. The light shades hanging above the tables as well as on the walls had an otherworldly feel.

DSC01140

This little restaurant is extremely busy, so reservations are recommended. The menu is predominately vegetarian but there are a few vegan and raw options.

Summer Salad

DO try the vegan phô.

My Raw Cafe

A completely raw vegan bistro serving up desserts and savoury dishes like sushi, wraps and quiche. The cake display is beautiful showcasing all of their cashew based cheesecakes.

Vegan Guide to Prague

The staff are friendly, and the design of the Cafe is very sweet.

DO try the raspberry chocolate cheesecake.

Ultimate Guide to Being Vegan in Prague

Czech-Restaurant-Tour

A first glance at some of our traditional Czech meals might make you think that there are no greater meat-eaters in this world than the Czechs. But don’t get misled! Roasted duck, pork knuckle, and all kinds of sausages might be essential for our cuisine, but these are by far not the only things we have to offer.

Prague is a very progressive city and the vegan lifestyle has been positively embraced over the past few years. Sometimes it seems as if there is a new vegan restaurant opening up every day! A few of them have probably opened their doors for the first time in the time it has taken me to write this article! Even supermarkets have noticed that not everyone cares about animal products anymore and most of them have added vegan goods on their shelves. Sometimes it’s not even mixed with all the meat and cheese but it gets its own section! That’s progress for you…

If you are still doubting whether there will be anything for you to eat in this city, let me take you on a little virtual tour through the vegan side of Prague; I’m pretty confident you’ll be booking those plane tickets before you know it!

A piece of tradition

I know I said that Czech cuisine was VERY meat-based, but most of my ancestors would probably be quite surprised by such a claim. In the past, they did not slay tons of cows, pigs or chickens every day, meat was actually considered a luxury. For most of the year, if you were middle to upper class, you could afford to have a piece of meat on your table once a week. Even my grandma, who grew up on a prosperous farm, recollects meat being very rare back then and she shakes her head in disbelief every time she walks around a vegan restaurant today. It makes no sense to her that people should choose not to eat meat now that it’s all around us…

But wait a minute, what did people eat then, if not meat? Well, a lot of the same things they serve in the vegetarian and vegan restaurants around town nowadays. In fact, many traditional Czech meals, even those containing meat or other animal products, can easily be transformed into vegan versions. And what would some of these typical meals be?

A 100% vegan traditional Czech meal is the so-called  staročeský kuba . People used to eat it on Christmas Day because the tradition says you are not supposed to eat meat until dinner. Kuba consists of boiled barley, sometimes also called groats, and mushrooms. But you would have to be extremely lucky to find this on a menu of any restaurant around Prague, to be honest.

What you can definitely find, especially during the various market seasons in Prague, is the street food called  bramborák . It is basically a potato pancake, which traditionally includes eggs in its recipe, but can be made without them just as easily. You can eat it on its own, with garlic or with sauerkraut. And it’s delicious. And heavy!

While other Czech recipes usually include meat or dairy products, there are alternative ways of preparing most of these in a vegan version. This includes all the heavy-sauce-based dishes with dumplings, such as  svíčková ,  guláš  or  rajská . More and more restaurants around Prague started to put these on their menus because they know Czechs like their  knedlíky  even when they don’t eat meat. Let’s see, what the city has to offer!

Best vegan restaurants in Prague

I suppose you will want to visit Prague Castle during your stay in the city? You might as well stop for a lunch at  Vegan’s Prague , which is just a stone’s throw from there. While the prices are slightly above average (as expected for a location so close to the action), the food and the view are definitely worth it. This place is very tourist-friendly and it is perfect for trying vegan versions of some of the traditional Czech meals.

If burgers are your thing, then  Forky’s  is a must. While also being very conveniently located (not far from the Old Town Square with the famous astronomical clock), Forky’s offer both Czech and international cuisine. Very modern, very simple and very delicious. Another burger option is  Belzepub , which, although a bit further from the city centre, boasts some of the best vegan burgers in town.

Modern interior design, great prices, and a different menu every day – that’s restaurant  Pastva . They specialize in light and healthy meals such as soups, salads or pasta, but always rich in protein. You will also find a wide selection of vegan desserts, homemade lemonades, and other products from local farms. Pastva is located in the new part of town called Smíchov.

If you ever happen to wander in the hipster neighbourhood of Vršovice, you need to visit the restaurant  Plevel . This is definitely one of the most popular vegan restaurants among locals, as well as a cool hipster hangout. Their daily menu often includes vegan burgers, pasta or Indian cuisine. And if you like Plevel, I’m pretty sure you are also going to appreciate  Moment . Although designated as a café, Moment has a wide offer of vegan meals and desserts that even hard-core meat-lovers cannot resist.

The local’s favourite: Plevel, a trendy vegan restaurant in the ultra cool Vršovice neighbourhood.

Cafeterias, bistros, and chain restaurants

Being vegan is not just about your diet or lifestyle. It is also a way of looking at society; a political stance. And as such, it is often linked to other contemporary social issues. The owners are well aware of this proximity at  Sociální bistro Střecha (Social Bistro Rooftop), where they focus not only on vegan cuisine but also on social support and communal values. Employing people from difficult backgrounds, Střecha offers hope not only to animals but also to their staff. During the week, they serve mainly Czech-style dishes, while every Saturday they host international brunches.

A similar concept can be found in  Jídelna kuchařek bez domova  (The Cafeteria of Homeless Cooks). While this one might not seem exactly tourist-friendly, it is very popular among locals. If you want to try something truly Czech without compromising your vegan diet and stay on a low budget all at the same time, this is the place to go! And you will also be supporting the homeless women who work there by visiting, making it a win all round.

If you are looking for real high-quality fresh food, try vegan bistro  Sandokan . Reasonable prices and Indian flavours is what you might expect to find here. Another option is  Vegan City Bistro . This fairly new project boasts is situated in a great location with delicious food, friendly staff, low prices, and no tourists around, all in one package!

a man holding a hot dog

You have probably heard of chain restaurants such as  Loving Hut  before. While the quality of the food might not be the same as in the local-brand restaurants, it is still a very convenient, fast and affordable way of obtaining vegan food, especially while on the move. There is a couple of them around the city and they offer Asian-style buffets with price by weight.

Dhaba Beas  would be another option, offering diners more Indian-orientated cuisine. Be careful with this one though, as some of their desserts may contain dairy products, so be sure to ask before you order! A little local tip: if you come less than an hour before the closing time, there’s usually a 50% discount on the food, although the selection might be limited.

For a healthier version of a vegan chain restaurant, visit one of the  Country Life  bistros. Country Life is primarily an e-shop with healthy and organic products, but recently they started to open cafeteria-type restaurants around the city. Reasonable prices and healthy vegan food, what else does one need?

Street food

Hey, who doesn’t love a piece of pizza once in a while? Even vegans need their pizza! For that, we have  Pizza Letná . Not far from the picturesque Letná Park, this pizza stand will delight you with their vegan and gluten-free pizza options. Vegan cheese included. Yummy!

What you definitely need to try, however, are our world-renowned open-face sandwiches called  chlebíčky . You will find them at every proper Czech party and if you want a vegan version,  Chlebíček Store  is here for you. It’s as if you haven’t even been in the Czech Republic if you didn’t try one chlebíček.

a person sitting at a table with food

I bet you might crave some ice cream in the summer.  Crème de la Crème  has got your back! This gorgeous ice cream parlour in the midst of the Old Town is exactly what you need. And guess what? It’s not just fruity vegan ice cream like they do everywhere else; Creme de la Creme actually produce a creamy vegan one! Hurrah!

I already mentioned  Country Life  bistros, you might as well get some groceries there while enjoying your lunch. If you like pastry (and it’s all about pastry in the Czech Republic), try  Rozmarýna . They bake their own fresh pastry every day, but they also have a wide selection of dried legumes, nuts, and other organic products. And it’s very very local.

World Vegan  store is not only centrally located but also has just about anything you can think of. Things that you didn’t even know existed in vegan form, they have them there. And in great quality, too!

Bezobalu  is not primarily a vegan store, but their zero-waste concept is closely related to vegan lifestyle. With all the environmental crisis thriving around, zero-waste is actually a big thing in Prague right now. And you want to fit it, don’t you?

But let’s be honest, for a regular grocery shopping, you might as well go to any large supermarket. I would recommend either Tesco or Lidl, where you can find the list of ingredients and allergens next to the price tag of most products. Since vegan lifestyle is cool nowadays, most of these stores have built their own vegan sections, where you can find everything from yogurts to milk alternatives, cheese, spreads, and anything else you might think of.

a group of people posing for the camera

If you’re looking for cosmetics,  BIOOO  in the Kotva shopping mall at Náměstí Republiky will do the thing. How about some vegan fashion?  Eco Fashion Labels  have everything from shoes to vegan leather-products and stylish clothing. Pricy but smooth!  EtikButik  might be a bit more friendly towards your budget, though. And in  Bohempia  they made clothes and shoes out of hemp! That’s definitely vegan.

Vegan community in Prague

With the growing interest in vegan diet and lifestyle, people started to form little communities and societies to share their experience with being vegan in Prague. There is a Facebook page called  Veganská setkávání v Praze  (vegan meetings in Prague), which might seem rather Czech-oriented, but they organise events that are regularly visited by foreigners as well. One of these events is a  regular vegan dinner ,  that takes place once in a while and everyone is expected to bring something to share so that there is enough food for everyone.

a group of people sitting at a table in a restaurant

As for other events, there are festivals dedicated to all kinds of vegan food all throughout the year. We have  Vegan Burger Festival  in April,  Veggie Náplavka  at the beginning of May, or  Raw Food Festival  in August. If you happen to be in town around Christmas Time, we also have  Veggie Vánoce , that includes a creative workshop with inspirational tips for vegan and zero-waste Christmas gifts. Now, that’s something special!

I had an absolutely amazing tour with Helena. I booked the night before on a whim and was a little apprehensive about going alone, but I'm so glad I did. It was the highlight of my trip. The other people on the tour never showed so I ended up with a private tour and it was just perfection. Helena was absolutely wonderful, she went above and beyond. She was a walking encyclopedia on the city and gave me a tour that extended well beyond food. The next day I was able to retrace our steps and show some of the city to my husband and son. She had loads of suggestions and tips outside of the food scene and every one of them paid off. We had such a good day today because I took the tour with her yesterday. I saw parts of Prague I never would have otherwise. I got away from the tourist traps and saw real Czech life. I cannot recommend this enough. All the food was delicious, but the brewery boat marinated cheese and open faced sandwiches were my personal favourites, with the beef broth coming in a very close second. It was just the best day despite the miserable weather. If you have any doubts, dispel them and go for it, I'm so glad I did! 😍

Lukas was a fantastic guide through unique and delicious Czech food and dishes! Some favorites and some things I never would’ve tried without some help and explanation.

He was knowledgeable, personable, and funny. A great time and a great introduction to Prague and its food & culture!

Tahlee Chant

Robert was an amazing tour guide! Had such a bubbly personality and was so knowledgeable! He made the tour so much more enjoyable! I had accidentally burnt my had (being a klutz) and he was very helpful and made sure I was okay the whole time. Highly recommend him!!!

Shelby Bussey

Eva was an absolutely wonderful guide!! She made it so much more than just a food tour by sharing history about important events and buildings and even her own childhood stories about growing up in Prague. The food was amazing and you got a lot for the price. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this tour to anybody!

Andrew Chalk

Took tour on 2023-05-08. Just us and one other couple . Thoroughly enjoyed the choices and breadth of the tour. Should have taken it at the beginning of our vacation. Host very knowlegible.

Audra McMullen

Zach was great! I love a good food tour with history along the way! He says he never wanted to be a teacher, but I learned more in 4 hours than I can imagine learning in a semester at school! Non beer options were readily available. I left so full I needed a nap.

Boba Fatt

Brilliant introduction to the food and history of Prague. Robert was an excellent, entertaining and knowledgeable host. Highly recommended, especially as something to do on your first day to explore the city.

Haley DiPietrantonio

Rob and Zach were absolutely amazing! Got to see some amazing local places with amazing local food that we got to try. We also were able to learn how to pour a Czech beer and learn to make a cocktail. Definitely worth the money and would recommend to anyone wanting to step outside the crowded touristy areas!

Joe DiPetto

Rob was knowledgeable, engaging, and enchanting. He did Prague justice. I would recommend this tour to anyone with a brain. Well done!

Marianne Heck

We enjoyed every bit of this tour. Helena was a great guide who knows a lot and tells with passion. She not only told us about the local food and habbits but also about architecture, the story of the shoe brand Bata and car brand Skoda, upon all of this we have seen some great churches. Keep up the good work!

Veronika Pirozek

Amazing tour with David! Food and vibes were great ❤️

Liz Edwards

We went on the food tour today with Petra, it was great to learn so much about the food and history of Prague. Petra is very easy going and it was like having a tour with a good friend, we laughed and ate amazing food. The best egg butty I've ever had in Sisters! Thank you so much. 😊

Greta Handing

This tour was great! Portions and pacing were perfect. I didn’t leave hungry or stuffed. Food substitutions were very well accommodated. We had group members who were gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and with a nut allergy and everyone received food they could eat and enjoy. Our tour guide, Eva, was amazing. Also the restaurants on the tour were wonderful and not too crowded. We always had somewhere to sit. Plus, we got some unexpected bits of Prague history mixed in with the walks. Would highly recommend!

Cynthia Brackin

Our experience went beyond our expectations. Our guide was great - sharing history as well as introducing us to some of the most delicious food Prague has to offer. Our kids (ages 5 and 8) enjoyed themselves as well, and our guide was great with them. Overall a wonderful experience!
