  • Unfortunately, the local people in Vietnam are not familiar with German language, so that you will find it hard to speak and communicate with them. If you know English or Vietnamese, it is great but you are not, you should take some time before your trips to learn some basic English or Vietnamese words. If you haven’t got time to learn it, don’t go around without your tour guide or local friend.
  • Weather in Vietnam is very different from the weather in Germany with hotter atmosphere and more humidity, especially in the summer. Therefore, you might need to carry light clothes such as t-Shirts, short and flip flops to feel more comfortable when traveling around. Also, please bring with you an umbrella or raincoat whenever you go out to avoid getting wet from the heavy rain.
  • You should be aware of the insects in Vietnam because they are everywhere and also the tools to spread the tropical diseases like malaria, dengue fever or diarrhea. Therefore you should use the mosquito nets provided by your hotel, and buy some insect repellent in any local pharmacy. When you feel not good or signs of diseases, please go directly to the nearest hospital to examine. You should also remember that the hospital fee in here can only be paid by cash or international credit card, and your Germany insurance cannot be used in Vietnam.
  • The street vendors in Vietnam often ask for higher price of products or services to the foreigners, so you should be aware. Try to be nice with them, and bargaining is the effective method to lower the price of the goods that you intend to buy.

The procedure and process to renew your passport is exactly the same as the new passport application, except you need to fill the renewal form instead of the application form. Passport renewal can only applied in person at the local registration office, Germany embassy or consulate. Renewal fee is the same as application fee and made in cash or money order.

Visa for Vietnam

Do you need a vietnam visa.

The answer is that it depends on the length and frequency of visit. Citizens of certain nationalities can enter Vietnam without a visa and Germany is in the list of 15-day visa exemption.

Check out the comprehensive list of Vietnam visa exemptions here.

For example, Germany passport holders don’t need to apply for Vietnam visa so long as their stay does not exceed 15 days. It means if you plan to travel to Vietnam only once within 30 days, you are qualified for visa exemption. Otherwise, you need a visa in the second time onwards.

Once you meet the above conditions, please ensure that your passport has minimum 6-month validity beyond arrival date, and the proof of exit is available to travel to Vietnam with no visa.

Vietnam visa requirements

Even if you need a visa for upcoming travel, there is no need to worry because preparation for Vietnam visa application is simple. Those documents should be ready:

  • Valid passport with at least 6-month validity and 2 blank pages
  • Visa fee (can be cash or credit/ debit card)
  • Travel plan: hotel booking, air ticket booking, schedule and destination during the time in Vietnam
  • The application should be submitted at least 1 week before arrival date

I. Visa Requirement

1. A visa is required to enter Vietnam unless it is exempted.

2. German nationals do not need a visa if:

- they will not stay in Vietnam for more than 45 days, including the arrival and departure days (a proof such as an onward or return ticket may be required at the border); and

- their passport is valid for at least six (06) months upon entry.

3. The visa-free stay of 45 days is recalculated with each entry, regardless of the last entry, which happened with or without a visa. A minimum period between the last exit and the visa-free entry is not required.

4. The regulations in points 2 and 3 also apply to nationals of France, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Russia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Belarus.

5. In addition, a visa is not required:

- if the visa requirement is lifted according to mutual agreements ; or

- if the foreigner holds a valid permanent or temporary residence permit of Vietnam; or

- if the foreigner only enters a border economic zone for a maximum of 15 days, or a special administrative and economic zone or a coastal economic zone such as Phu Quoc for a maximum of 30 days.

6. At the border control, the entry of a foreigner with or without a valid visa may be refused if there are reasons provided by Vietnamese law. Entry is not permitted for minors under the age of 14 who are not accompanied by their legal guardians or their legally authorized persons.

II. Visa Types

1. Standard visas are to be issued by a Vietnamese mission. The Embassy is responsible for issuing visas to all foreigners. For the purpose of tourism, standard visas are valid for 30 days.

2. Visas on arrival are only issued for emergencies at an airport in Vietnam by the Vietnam Immigration Department, when the foreigner has already received an entry permit (approval letter) from the Vietnam Immigration Department, but cannot collect a standard visa from a Vietnamese mission. Further information can be found in the travel and security advice of the Federal Foreign Office.

3. Electronic visas are issued to foreigners who enter Vietnam through certain checkpoints  for a maximum of 90 days. The Immigration Department of Vietnam alone has the authority to issue electronic visas. If any questions or problems arise relating to electronic visas, please contact the Immigration Department directly via telephone number:  +84 24 38264026 or email:  [email protected] .

III. Application for standard visas

1. The application can be submitted to the Embassy in person or by post; online application is not possible.

If submitting in person, the application can be lodged during the opening hours of the consular section without an appointment and via a third party without a power of attorney.

If submitting by post, DHL Express with its original mailing bag or other courier service is recommended. One common envelope may be used for multiple applicants. The Embassy accepts no responsibility for loss in shipment.

2. Documents

- 01 fully completed application form ( DEU , ENG ) with a current, biometric passport photo;

- Original passport, children’s passport or temporary passport that is still valid for at least 01 month following the departure from Vietnam;

- 01 copy of the approval letter from Vietnam Immigration Department, if available;

- 01 addressed and prepaid return envelope (DHL Express or other courier recommended) if return via post is requested.

- Visa fee (*) in cash or Verrechnungscheck with the signature of the account holder (recipient: Embassy of the S.R. Vietnam, Elsenstraße 3, 12435 Berlin).

(*) The consular section is available at +49 30 53630 102/108 or [email protected] for inquiries about documents. During processing, the consular section may ask for additional documents.

3. The issuance of a visa for purposes other than tourism requires an approval letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department. An approval letter may also be required for non-European applicants for tourism purposes.

In order to obtain an approval letter, applicants need to find a family member or a legal entity in Vietnam who will undertake the invitation procedures at the Vietnam Immigration Department. For the purpose of tourism, a travel agency in Vietnam is considered inviter.

4. An approval letter alone and without other documents listed in point 2 is not sufficient for a visa. A copy of the approval letter provided by the applicant is only a reference. The visa issuance must be based on the approval letter sent directly to the embassy by the Vietnam Immigration Department.

5. The processing time is about 05 working days for a holder of an approval letter and about 10 working days for an application without an approval letter, once the full application reached the Embassy.

6. A visa holder may enter and remain in Vietnam in the period from the date of entry to the date of exit, which are directly printed in the visa. This means that he can enter later than the entry date but not leave the country later than the exit date written in the visa.

How can I get a 1 year Business visa or at least a 6 months Business visa multiple entries? What documenta do I need and how much does IT cost for me and my little child?

@Tanja, Unfortunately, it is not possible to obtain a 1-year visa for German passport holders without a sponsoring company in Vietnam. How can Citizens of Germany apply for a Vietnam visa?

Germans have two options to enter Vietnam. They can either take advantage of the visa-free entry, which allows them to stay for up to 15 days, or they can apply for an e-visa, which grants them a stay of up to 30 days.

Visa free entry – maximum 15 days

E-Visa – maximum 30 days

Germans can apply for an e-visa for Vietnam through the official website of the Vietnamese immigration service . The application process involves filling out an online form, providing the necessary personal and travel information, and submitting a digital photo and a scanned copy of the passport information page.

The e-visa has a validity of 30 days and allows for a single entry into Vietnam. Once the application is submitted and the fee is paid, the processing time is typically around three to four working days. • Consulate of Germany in Hanoi, Vietnam

Are you a German citizen planning to visit the beautiful country of Vietnam? If so, you may be considering applying for an e-visa to streamline the process. However, it’s essential to understand that not all e-visa applications are approved, as the government evaluates each application based on its own set of rules. If you’re looking for ways to increase the success rate of your e-visa application or seeking a hassle-free and guaranteed approval process, read on to discover the best options available to you.

Are German citizens exempted from Vietnam visa?

Yes, German citizens are exempted from obtaining a visa for entering Vietnam for up to 45 days. This exemption provides a convenient option for short-term visits, allowing German travelers to explore the beauty and culture of Vietnam without the need for a traditional visa application.

Are German citizens eligible to apply for a Vietnam e-visa?

Absolutely, German citizens are eligible to apply for a Vietnam e-visa, offering an efficient and streamlined process for obtaining authorization to enter the country. With the recent government resolution, the e-visa is now valid for up to 90 days with single or multiple entries, marking a significant enhancement in accessibility for travelers from all countries and territories, including Germany.

Benefits of the Vietnam e-visa for German citizens:

  • Convenient Online Application: The e-visa application process can be completed entirely online, eliminating the need for in-person visits to embassies or consulates. German citizens can conveniently submit their visa applications from the comfort of their homes, saving time and effort.
  • Cost-Effective Solution: Opting for the Vietnam e-visa presents a cost-effective alternative compared to traditional visa applications. German travelers can avoid additional expenses associated with embassy visits or third-party services, making the e-visa an economical choice for their travel plans.
  • Extended Validity and Entries: With the e-visa now offering a maximum validity of 90 days and the flexibility of multiple entries, German citizens can enjoy an extended period of travel within Vietnam. This enhanced flexibility allows for seamless exploration of the country’s diverse landscapes and attractions.
  • Time-Saving Process: The streamlined nature of the e-visa application results in significant time savings for German travelers. The simplified steps and online submission contribute to a hassle-free experience, ensuring that the visa process does not become a cumbersome aspect of trip planning.
  • Transparency and Accessibility: The Vietnam e-visa system promotes transparency and accessibility, providing German citizens with clear guidelines and requirements for obtaining their travel authorization. The enhanced accessibility of the e-visa ensures that all travelers, including those from Germany, can easily navigate the application process.

How much does it cost for German citizens to get an e-visa to Vietnam?

For German citizens, the Vietnam e-visa fees are as follows:

  • Single-entry E-visa, valid for up to 30 days: As a German citizen, you are exempted from a visa for 45 days, so there is no need for this type of e-visa.
  • Multiple-entry E-visa, valid for up to 30 days: Similar to the single-entry e-visa, German citizens are exempted from a visa for 45 days, so this option is not necessary.
  • Single-entry E-visa, valid for up to 90 days: The cost for this e-visa is US$25.
  • Multiple-entry E-visa, valid for up to 90 days: The fee for this e-visa is US$50.

It’s important to note that the fees for the Vietnam e-visa application from the government website are non-refundable in any case.

As a German citizen, you can take advantage of the 45-day visa exemption when planning your trip to Vietnam. However, if you intend to stay for a longer duration or require multiple entries within 90 days, you can opt for the respective e-visa options mentioned above.

Refund Policy for German Citizens

In the unfortunate event that your e-visa application is denied, it’s essential to be aware of the refund policy. As mentioned earlier, the e-visa application fees are non-refundable. Therefore, it’s crucial to ensure that all the required documents and information are accurately provided during the application process to minimize the risk of rejection.

In the case of a denied e-visa application, German citizens should consider reapplying with the necessary amendments or seek alternative visa options to facilitate their travel plans to Vietnam.

It’s always advisable to review the eligibility criteria and documentation requirements before submitting your e-visa application to avoid any potential issues. Understanding the fees and refund policy ensures that German citizens are well-prepared when applying for a Vietnam e-visa.

Government Website vs. Reputable Agencies

When it comes to applying for a Vietnam e-visa, German citizens are faced with a crucial decision – should they opt for the government website or turn to reputable agencies for assistance? Let’s weigh the options to help you make an informed choice.

Government Website:

  • Lower Fee: The government website offers a cost-effective solution for obtaining a Vietnam e-visa. The application process can be completed independently, allowing individuals to save money on agency fees.
  • Do-It-Yourself: If you’re adept at navigating bureaucracy and enjoy handling paperwork, the government website might be a suitable option for you. It allows for a hands-on approach to the e-visa application process.
  • Minimal Support: However, it’s important to note that the government website does not provide extensive support. If you encounter any issues or have questions during the application process, you’ll need to rely on your own resources for assistance.

Reputable Agencies:

  • Professional Guidance: Reputable agencies offer a comprehensive service that takes the hassle out of applying for a Vietnam e-visa. With their expertise and experience, they carefully handle the application process on your behalf, increasing the likelihood of approval.
  • Timely Delivery: In addition to managing the application, reputable agencies ensure that your e-visa is delivered on time. This eliminates the stress of waiting for approval and allows you to focus on preparing for your trip to Vietnam.
  • Prompt Support: Should you have any questions or require assistance, reputable agencies provide reliable online support. This means that you can seek guidance and clarification from knowledgeable professionals throughout the application process.
  • Additional Services: Beyond the e-visa application, reputable agencies offer supplementary services such as speeding up immigration clearance, facilitating urgent visa requests, and even arranging airport pickup. These conveniences can significantly enhance your travel experience.

Choosing the Right Option:

Ultimately, the decision between the government website and reputable agencies boils down to your individual preferences and priorities. If you value cost-efficiency and are confident in your ability to navigate the application process independently, the government website may be a suitable choice for you.

On the other hand, if you prioritize convenience, reliability, and professional support, opting for a reputable agency is highly advisable. Their services not only streamline the application process but also provide peace of mind, ensuring that your Vietnam e-visa experience is smooth and stress-free.

How Long Does It Take for German Citizens to Get E-Visa Approval?

For German citizens applying for a Vietnam e-visa, the processing time typically ranges from 3 to 5 working days. It’s essential to keep in mind that during peak seasons, such as holidays or high tourism periods, the processing time may extend beyond the standard 3-5 days. It’s always best to apply for your e-visa well in advance to avoid any last-minute hassles.

National Holidays in Vietnam to Note for German Citizens

It’s crucial for German citizens planning to obtain a Vietnam e-visa to be aware of the national holidays in Vietnam, as the immigration offices will not be processing e-visa applications on these days. The national holidays in Vietnam include:

  • New Year’s Day (January 01)
  • Tet Holiday
