When Brussels Tourism announced the launch of the Tram Experience, the concept was met with some scepticism. Now, almost a year in, the tram is going strong, to great acclaim. The Tram Experience is a specially re-fitted classic tram that circles the outer ring of Brussels. Diners are served a four-course meal, with drinks, while making the circuit of the city. The menu changes every few weeks, and each one is created by a different Belgian celebrity chef (many of them Michelin star holders). Besides the excellent food, one of the highlights of dining on the tram, is watching the double-takes of people who see it pass by. The Tram Experience books up well in advance, so be sure to reserve your seat long before your visit to Brussels.

Meals on wheels: Brussels tram experience returns with culinary tour

Meals on wheels: Brussels tram experience returns with culinary tour

The unique Tram Experience, which invites people aboard one of Brussels' iconic trams for a gastronomic tour of the capital, will return this September with a new concept.

Ever seen a tram rumble past you in Brussels, but instead of commuters, it is filled with people eating at tables in a romantic setting? It was most likely to have been the Tram Experience which, for more than ten years, has been transporting food and public transport lovers alike while providing them with a good meal.

Back for its 11th edition, this unique way of dining is returning this September with a new programme of the world's leading chefs, coming from all over the world, ready to bring dishes rooted in their national cuisines to the mobile restaurant.

"For more than 10 years, the Tram Experience has been taking foodies on a gastronomic tour of the capital. This year, the tram travels to the rhythm of six renowned chefs," visit.brussels announced on Wednesday. "They invite you to discover their gastronomic universes of varied flavours and horizons."

Culinary world tour

The chefs this year include Brussels' very own Giovanni Bruno, chef of the Michelin-starred Ristorante Senzanome, who will be sharing a menu of Italian cuisine fusing traditional and innovative flavours from 1 September to 15 October.

Montreal-based chef Samuel Sirois, who represented Canada at the final of the Culinary Olympics this year, will also surprise passengers with a new menu combining local products from the gastronomic capitals of Canada, Montréal and Quebec, with a touch of Belgian cuisine.

During the festive season in December, Brussels chef Mallory Gabsi – a semi-finalist in season 11 of Top Chef – will be providing a special menu inspired from his new gastronomic restaurant in Paris.

In 2024, will then be kicked off in northern Italy, with Andrea Larossa from Turin, who will incorporate the rustic flavours of mountainous Piedmont cuisine, known for its antipasti, to warm up chilly winter evenings.

JUNE / JULY

Oxana Cretu – Inima

After growing up in Moldavia and spending a few years between Romania and Russia, Oxana Cretu decided to move to France in 2006, aged just 21. Although brought up in an environment where good, hearty family cooking was the order of the day, Oxana Cretu initially had her sights set on a different career. However, at the age of only 30, she realised that her true calling was indeed in cooking, which lead her to where she is now, taking her guests on a responsible, colourful and delicate journey.

In 2018, driven by her desire for entrepreneurship, Oxana opened her first restaurant in the centre of Bordeaux, a move which confirmed to her that she had found her calling. In 2023, she renamed the restaurant "INIMA", a word of Romanian origin meaning "with all my heart", as a tribute to her roots and childhood. The self-taught chef stands out for her cuisine that is honest, free, flowery and creative. Oxana draws her inspiration from the land she treads, loving to fuse the flavours of her origins with local produce to enrich her creations with plenty of love and flavour.

“Cooking embodies both physical work and creativity. It's synonymous with freedom, as there are no social limits: you can talk about it anywhere, with anyone.” - Oxana Cretu

Menu from 21 May to 7 July 2024

Green tea wafer with spider crab and notes of kaffir lime

Oyster with jasmine and smoked pomegranate

Was geschieht mit meinen persönlichen Gegenständen?

15 injured in tram accident at Universal Studios

A group of amusement park visitors were injured Saturday evening in a Universal Studios tram accident near Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department was dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. PT Saturday and transferred 15 patients to hospitals with minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol said a tour was underway at the studio in Universal City and the tram was making a turn following the "Jurassic Park Cars" attraction.

"Due to unknown reasons, while negotiating the turn onto Avenue M, the last car of the tram collided with a metal guardrail on the right side of the roadway causing it to tilt and eject multiple passengers from the tram," the agency said.

The injuries were evaluated as "minor to moderate," the highway patrol said. Neither drugs nor alcohol are being considered as factors.

A spokesperson for Universal Studios Hollywood confirmed the accident in a statement and said a tram collided with a guard rail while it was turning left.

"Our thoughts continue to be with the guests who were involved, and we are thankful that based on agency reports, the injuries sustained were minor," the statement said. "We are working closely with public agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, as we continue our review of the incident and safety remains a top priority."

Universal said the Studio Tour has resumed "with a modified route" and the park is "reinforcing our operational and safety protocols."

Universal Studios is owned by NBC News’ parent company, NBCUniversal.

According to the park’s website, the tram tour is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary Friday.

The Universal Studios Tour offers park visitors a chance to ride a tram through behind-the-scenes locations of some of the studio's famed films while tour guides impart some of the history of the lot.

Many of the locations are still used for filming, so the locations may change. A consistently popular attraction includes re-creations of scenes such as a "Jaws"-style shark attack.
