When Brussels Tourism announced the launch of the Tram Experience, the concept was met with some scepticism. Now, almost a year in, the tram is going strong, to great acclaim. The Tram Experience is a specially re-fitted classic tram that circles the outer ring of Brussels. Diners are served a four-course meal, with drinks, while making the circuit of the city. The menu changes every few weeks, and each one is created by a different Belgian celebrity chef (many of them Michelin star holders). Besides the excellent food, one of the highlights of dining on the tram, is watching the double-takes of people who see it pass by. The Tram Experience books up well in advance, so be sure to reserve your seat long before your visit to Brussels.

Tomoyasu Kamo* – Kamo

Trammenu: 2u – 2u10 Experiencemenu: 2u45

Meals on wheels: Brussels tram experience returns with culinary tour

The unique Tram Experience, which invites people aboard one of Brussels' iconic trams for a gastronomic tour of the capital, will return this September with a new concept.

Ever seen a tram rumble past you in Brussels, but instead of commuters, it is filled with people eating at tables in a romantic setting? It was most likely to have been the Tram Experience which, for more than ten years, has been transporting food and public transport lovers alike while providing them with a good meal.

Back for its 11th edition, this unique way of dining is returning this September with a new programme of the world's leading chefs, coming from all over the world, ready to bring dishes rooted in their national cuisines to the mobile restaurant.

"For more than 10 years, the Tram Experience has been taking foodies on a gastronomic tour of the capital. This year, the tram travels to the rhythm of six renowned chefs," visit.brussels announced on Wednesday. "They invite you to discover their gastronomic universes of varied flavours and horizons."

Culinary world tour

The chefs this year include Brussels' very own Giovanni Bruno, chef of the Michelin-starred Ristorante Senzanome, who will be sharing a menu of Italian cuisine fusing traditional and innovative flavours from 1 September to 15 October.

Montreal-based chef Samuel Sirois, who represented Canada at the final of the Culinary Olympics this year, will also surprise passengers with a new menu combining local products from the gastronomic capitals of Canada, Montréal and Quebec, with a touch of Belgian cuisine.

During the festive season in December, Brussels chef Mallory Gabsi – a semi-finalist in season 11 of Top Chef – will be providing a special menu inspired from his new gastronomic restaurant in Paris.

In 2024, will then be kicked off in northern Italy, with Andrea Larossa from Turin, who will incorporate the rustic flavours of mountainous Piedmont cuisine, known for its antipasti, to warm up chilly winter evenings.

The Tram Experience

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

We had lunch on Nov 11, and the entire experience was excellent from beginning to end. The tram was an hour delayed but we were called and warned so we were able to arrive at the right time. Once on the tram, we were looked... after by very friendly staff. The food was excellent and the wines equally good. The great thing about doing this during the day was that you could see the outside surroundings which was really pleasant. I note many negative reviews, but based on our experience I can only surmise they are listening to feedback. If you have the money and want a really unique experience, I do recommend it. More

Dear, We’d like to thank you for your very nice review and for trusting us. Positive and negative comments are always welcome as they allow us to keep improving ourselves. But we’re really glad to read that you enjoyed your time onboard the Tram Experience... More

The inside of the tram is a modern restaurant. The tram takes guest all through Brussels while dining. This would be nice, but the windows fogged up 10 minutes into the ride and we couldn't see anything. It's also better to have a window that's... not covered by the name that's presented outside of the tram as this blocks ones view. The food was unique and presented beautifully. The first two courses were not that impressive, but the rest of the meal was very nice. The Cava was good, but the wine selections were very poor. I'm glad we did it, but it wasn't worth the price. More

We were 2 couples who booked a table for 4 on a cold Saturday night. We all enjoyed it to varying degrees, and nobody even remotely disliked the experience. The food was good, but not among the best I’ve had. It’s essentially a tasting menu... served in ~7 courses by very courteous, bilingual wait staff who move about the narrow aisle with practiced speed and grace. The chef seemed quite good, but with a tiny kitchen and minimal cooking space there’s only so much (s)he can do. Many of the early courses were chilled and I assume prepared prior to departure, but later courses were piping hot and tasty. The various alcohol drinks served were well-paired and quite plentiful and improved my mood greatly. We couldn’t see much out the windows because they were fogged up the entire time and it was dark outside, so the interior lights reflecting back at us further obfuscated the view. Which makes sense, but we hadn’t thought about it prior. In any case, the scenery isn’t the best of Brussels by any means (we were already familiar with the city); for that you’d want to try the hop-on/hop-off bus tours. So in the end, this was more about the novel experience of enjoying a decent tasting menu in a moving tram. The seating is tight (this is mass transit, after all) and anyone with a large body frame or significantly overweight would be fairly crammed both side-to-side as well as fore-and-aft by the close-set table. But if you’re of average build you’ll be comfortable enough. Think eating in an airplane seat. The food was the gourmet vein in the French style and as one might expect, picky eaters found more than a few dishes unappetizing to their (unsophisticated?) senses. The vegetarian option was definitely not as good as the standard meal, even accounting for the standard discrepancies you’d expect between the two. Our group was glad we went, but probably wouldn’t make a habit of it. I would go again if the cost were closer to €75 per person, but at €125 per person I would want food that was truly five-star. Nevertheless, I would certainly recommend this experience for anyone who hadn’t done it before. More

The dishes were on the whole mediocre, except for the fish which was good. The wines were almost passable, especially the red wine. Most dishes were cold which was unfortunate as it was a cold and rainy night… and it is October after all, they... should have adapted the menu. There was no atmosphere, it’s an old tram which they refitted but not very successfully. It’s uncomfortable, cold, cramped and noisy. And you can’t get off. The lights are institutional. However, most people admittedly seemed to have a good time. All the drinks are included so that explains it. PS - We took (a normal) tram home and I can confirm that it is warmer, more comfortable and less noisy. More

As other commenters have said, I spent months trying to book a table on the tram. It sounded so exciting and good value. So we booked ourselves a weekend in Brussels and got out some nice clothes. Half an hour before the appointed time, we... received a call, dinner was canceled, "a technical issue". So we booked another date, booked another weekend in Brussels. This time, though, they'd lost my phone number, so we waited in the snow for half an hour before being informed that we'd come 400 km for nothing. And in Brussels on a Friday night in winter it's not easy finding a restaurant willing to feed you around 10 pm if you haven't booked. So go if you're in Brussels, but visiting specially might just leave you with a bitter taste in your mouth. More

Prior to embarking, we had high expectations. The concept is truly great. Having a nice dinner in a tram whilst going through a city we come from is something really different. The delivery of the experience has however not been up to our expectations on... several important points. When we walked to the Museum,it was freezing outside and we were happy to arrive a the tram, until we discovered the tram did not have proper heating. When asking about that to a waiter, he told us it would get better when the tram would start moving. It was not the case, which the waiter probably knew. Then, asking to the same waiter if we could have more bread. We were politely told that the second started would be served soon.... and we did not receive bread. Quite surprising for a dinner at EUR90 per head which is expensive as per Belgian standards. Overall, food portions are generally small and to say it all, we went to a fast food after our dinner as we were starving. All in all, nice tour in the city at night... for a quite high price. More

Dear, Thank you for your advise on the Tram Experience, even if your rating seems quite severe compared to what you're writing. As the name says, our Tram Experience is a unique concept that shouldn't be compared to a normal restaurant. However, the menus are... More

The experience of having a meal on a tram is many times better than a train restaurant but the food was mediocre, the wines bad and the itinerary pretty limited. When I did the same last year (or maybe 2012?) the tram moved around the... whole city, this time it went through marginal areas and stopped twice for long time. More

We celebrated our wedding anniversary this year aboard a tram. But an "experience" it truly is, with the Michelin starred cuisine of Loïc Villers, served by a team of very knowledgeable and friendly staff. We are Brussels tram veterans; with our yearly passes, we've covered... large swaths of the city. But last night it was different; we were being served a world class meal with accompanying wines (and beer - one of the many courses was accompanied by an excellent Belgian brew, very appropriate). The Tram Experience is for special occasions, and we probably weren't the only ones celebrating an anniversary (it was a birthday party behind us). Only downside: the one toilet on board is often occupied when you want to use it (!), and we detected an odor towards the end of the two and a half hour meal/ride. But these are quibbles. An unforgettable evening. More

This was a fun Father’s Day experience. However we reserved 3 meatless meals and one meat meal. The person checking us in confirmed the meatless meals, but the servers did not seem to know. It wasn’t until we got to the third course that they... remembered. When we told them the first time, they simply pulled the strip of beef off of the grains underneath and served that to us....not ok. The rest of the evening we were served the meat entree minus the meat. In other words, they did not substitute anything else in for the meat so we got less food. For some reason they even left the creme brûlée sauce off of the desserts...not sure why as that does not contain meat. For the amount of money this meal cost, there should have been substitutions made, or they shouldn’t offer a meatless option. More

My husband and I were in Brussells for the weekend to celebrate my birthday and the tram experience was to be my birthday treat. However, I found the whole experience disappointing from beginning to end. We arrived at the tram stop in the pouring rain... and there was no indication that we were standing in the correct place, the tram should have arrived at 7.50pm, a man arrived a this time and told us it would come at 8.00 however it was ten past by the time it finally showed. We expected it to be decorated for Christmas but were disappointed by the appearance of the tram, which was just white and plastic looking. The food was ok but nothing special. The drinks were few and far between. The only thing I can say is that the waiters were very good. All in all the 'tram experience' was a great disappointment and something to be avoided. We could have had a lovely meal in a restaurant with champagne for what the tram cost. A total waste of money. More

I typically do not write reviews, but my experience with the "Tram Experience" was awful and I felt that I needed to share. The time on my boarding pass and confirmation email was for boarding at 11:50AM and departing at 12:00PM. My fiance and I... arrived to the Poeleart Tram Stop around 11:15AM to allow ample time. We waited and waited and waited but the tram never showed up. Finally, around 1:00PM, we left. Needless to say we were very upset that number 1, we wasted half of our day in Brussels waiting for a tram that never showed; and number 2, that we spent so much money for a tram that never showed. I sent an email to the email address listed on the website to find out why this happened. Later that evening, 6:55PM to be exact, I received a phone call from someone on the tram (perhaps the driver - they did not say), asking where we were. I explained the situation to him and that there was no way we could reach the tram stop by 7:00PM (that was only 5 minutes time from when I received the call). He told me that I would need to contact Visit.Brussels (which I had already done). Since it was a Sunday, I didn't expect to get a returned email until the next day. The next day came and no response so I sent the email again. I waited until Tuesday, still no response. I managed to find a different email address so I sent an email to them, again, no response. I reached out to STIB, the transit authority in Brussels, who are listed as a partner on the Tram Experience website. They responded quickly to my email, but only to say that I needed to contact Visit.Brussels. It is now Friday, July 20th, 5 days after this issue, and I have received no response, not even an acknowledgement that my emails were received. At this point, I have no desire to ever consider booking anything with this company ever again. More

The Tram experience is actually a tram refurbished into a fancy moving restaurant with excellent gourmet food. We enjoyed the ecxperience with Chef Alex Joseph and loved the food. Excellent wine pairing to go with the food and the ever changing surroundings made this a... truly different dinner from a usual restaurant. 5 stars for food and wine, only one star for the toilet where paper and water was missing.. Anyway, the experiene was great fun and the atmosphere excellent!! More

my fiancé made a reservation as a surprise for me. The food was so delicious and the waiters were very friendly. They kept refilling our drinks all the time. To look at Brussels passing by while you eat during sunset was very romantic and I... would recommend to everybody More

A team that trundles along while you eat dinner. The dinner is surprisingly good, given that they gave a very basic kitchen, and the staff are very skilled at moving in the most restricted of spaces. The tables are tight - really tight - two... large persons sitting beside each other have to be really cosy. So not the most comfortable dinner you will have or the best, but fun, especially with out of town visitors. More

The food and the overall experience was good but not worth the price you pay. Had the impression that in the beginning was more authentic and now has turned into a business machine. More

  1. Tram Experience

The Tram Experience has fixed 1 or 2-seater benches. Technical constraints linked to the fixing of the furniture on board do not allow us to offer a modular seating arrangement. The space available for this seating can therefore be relatively small (width of 40cm between the back of the chair and the beginning of the table).

  2. Practical info

The Tram Experience leaves its departure point at the scheduled time. As it runs on the normal STIB network, the Tram Experience is not able to wait for late arrivals. We refer you to the general terms and conditions of sale for the other arrangements.
