The Best Insulated Wine Tumblers

Different brands of insulated wine tumblers next to two bottles of wine.

By Elissa Sanci

Elissa Sanci is a writer on the discovery team. She has found that clear ice makes carbonated drinks taste better, and citronella candles don’t work.

Whether you’re sipping chilled white wine from a delicate glass or drinking an icy cocktail from a red Solo cup, you’ll eventually be left with the same dilemma: Your once-cold drink will most likely be lukewarm before you’ve had a chance to finish it. But if you sip from an insulated wine tumbler, you’ll find that each swig remains as refreshing as the first, even hours after the drink has been poured.

Double-walled, vacuum-insulated wine tumblers can accommodate any kind of beverage, whether it’s a bubbly seltzer or a warm cup of tea. After researching dozens of wine tumblers, we tested eight and evaluated them for temperature retention, lid quality, handfeel, and overall aesthetic—because you shouldn’t have to sacrifice looks for quality.

Our picks include the all-around best-in-class Yeti Rambler 10 oz Wine Tumbler , the easy-to-hold Corkcicle Classic Stemless , which comes in over 50 colors and patterns, and the budget-friendly Ello Clink 12oz Stainless Wine Glass with a built-in coaster.

The research

Our pick: yeti rambler 10 oz wine tumbler, runner-up: corkcicle classic stemless, budget pick: ello clink 12oz stainless wine glass with silicone protection, the competition, how we picked and tested.

A blue and a yellow Yeti Rambler 10 oz Wine Tumbler.

Yeti Rambler 10 oz Wine Tumbler

The best insulated wine tumbler.

With a sloped lip for easy sipping, and a smooth lid-locking mechanism, this tumbler is the most enjoyable to use, and it excels at keeping liquids the right temperature for drinking hours after they are poured. It also didn't leak during our tests.

Buying Options

Why it’s great.

The Yeti Rambler 10 oz Wine Tumbler is an all-around excellent insulated wine tumbler, but what really sets it apart is its thoughtfully designed lid; it was the easiest to drink from and was one of the few tumblers we tested that was also leakproof.

The mouthpiece is gently sloped to eliminate splash back. This Yeti wine tumbler has the only lid we tested that has this small but great feature. Also unique to it is what Yeti calls the Magslider lid: a sliding magnet that glides open and closed effortlessly, which not only feels nice to use, but creates a seal when closed that didn't leak during our tests. This, paired with the it’s superior ability to keep beverages cold (or hot) for hours, makes it the standout star of tumbler testing.

It excels at temperature retention. We found that the Yeti wine tumbler—made of durable stainless steel with double-walled vacuum insulation—was capable of keeping cold water chilled for six hours during our temperature tests. It performed just as well during real-life testing: My fiancé sipped on a whiskey cocktail with ice throughout the evening, then left the ice-filled tumbler by the sink overnight. The ice was still rattling around in it the next morning. This tumbler can also keep a warm beverage steaming hot for several hours after its poured, making it a good option for slow-sipping coffee and tea drinkers, too.

It fits nicely in small and large hands. Its matte powder coat is smooth to the touch, and the insulated tumbler is comfortable to hold whether it’s filled with slushy frosé or a steaming hot toddy.

The tumbler and the lid are dishwasher safe for easy cleanup. The lid’s Magslider and gaskets can be removed to clean any gunky buildup within the nooks and crannies.

It comes in eight simple colors, and you can customize it with a logo, text, or a monogram starting at about $6. The colors of the tumblers might be relatively basic (they have mainstays like navy, black, and white and a few snazzy seasonal colors like yellow and green). But the customization makes these great gift options for anyone; they’d be perfect for grads , bridesmaids , or groomsmen specifically. Customization is only available for tumblers you buy directly on Yeti’s site, though.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

The Yeti wine tumbler lacks a nonslip rubber bottom, so it might slide on smooth or wet surfaces. This makes it easier to knock over, but it isn’t a huge concern since we found that its lid stops spills, and its insulation prevents any condensation from forming and pooling under the tumbler.

A blue and a coral Corkcicle Classic Stemless wine insulated tumbler.

Corkcicle Classic Stemless

An easy-to-grip tumbler.

It has sleek flat sides, an anti-slip bottom, and comes in a great variety of colors—but its lid isn’t leakproof and doesn’t glide as smoothly as our top pick.

The Corkcicle Classic Stemless comes in some 50 colors and patterns—the most of all the wine tumblers we tested. It also holds 12 ounces compared with the Yeti wine tumbler’s 10 ounces, but it really doesn’t feel any bigger, and thanks to its subtly flat side panels, some might find the Corkcicle Classic Stemless even easier to hold. These features make up for the fact that the lid leaks a bit.

It’s designed to be easy to hold—and not topple over. This tumbler is almost completely rounded, aside from two small, flat panels for your fingers to nestle around, which makes it feel even more secure in your hand. It also has a small silicone bottom that keeps the cup firmly in place on smooth or slippery surfaces.

It keeps cold drinks cold and hot drinks warm just as well as our top-pick Yeti wine tumbler. The triple-insulated, stainless steel Corkcicle Classic Stemless can keep cold liquids reliably chill for six hours and boiled water hot enough to burn your tongue even three hours in. While preparing Sunday dinner, I sipped a gin cocktail with ice from the Corkcicle Classic Stemless before forgetting it on the countertop in the general mayhem of hosting. When I reached for it hours after our meal, the ice cubes hadn’t melted and the drink was still pleasantly cold.

The massive selection of hues and patterns includes neon, chrome, glittery florals, and even Disney- and Marvel-themed wraps. You’re bound to find something you like—or want to give as a gift. Personalization is also available on select tumblers starting at about $8.

  • The lid is not entirely leakproof. The lid’s slider covers the sipping port, which prevents leaks from some angles, but the gaskets around the lid don’t create a tight-enough seal to keep liquid from seeping out when the cup is tipped fully to the side.
  • The lid slider doesn’t glide as smoothly and feels flimsy. While inspecting the lid to see if it came apart for easy cleaning, I accidentally broke the slider, snapping the small plastic attachments that keep it in place. When I reached out to customer service, they let me know that the lid is indeed designed to be removed for thorough cleaning (information we couldn’t find easily on the site) and provided suggestions about how to twist and pop the lid back on; they also offered to help if that method didn’t work. I was still surprised at how easily the brittle plastic snapped under light pressure. Given that this tumbler is among the pricier options available on the market, it’s disappointing that its lid isn’t as durable as the tumbler itself. But we tested two other Corkcicle wine tumblers after the original unit broke and haven’t had any issues with the lids.
  • Not all Corkcicle tumblers are dishwasher safe. Keep in mind that the care instructions might change based on which style you choose—some, like this floral pattern , can survive a top-rack spin through the dishwasher, while others, such as the metallic dragonfly pattern , require hand-washing. Make sure to check the care instructions of your specific tumbler before washing.

Budget pick

Ello Clink 12oz Stainless Wine Glass with Silicone Protection

The best budget wine tumbler.

This inexpensive tumbler insulates just as well as its pricier counterparts and has a nifty built-in coaster to keep it from spilling. But it isn’t dishwasher safe and the lid doesn’t close completely.

The Ello Clink 12oz Stainless Wine Glass with Silicone Protection is the best tumbler we found for less than $20. It costs $10 to $15 less than the Yeti Rambler 10 oz Wine Tumbler and the Corkcicle Classic Stemless, but it insulates even better. Unlike our pricier picks, though, its lid isn’t leakproof. That flaw is offset by its textured silicone bottom that is designed to help prevent spills (and is easily removable for washing). It’s a unique feature that also looks and feels pretty cool, especially in contrast to the tumbler’s sleek metallic body.

When we tested for temperature retention, it performed even better than pricier picks. After five hours, the ice water in the Ello tumbler went up in temperature only 9 degrees (the Yeti tumbler went up 10 degrees, and the Corkcicle tumbler went up 12 degrees).

But it lacks a sliding lid that seals the sipping port, so it’s not leakproof. Still, thanks to its small sipping port that prevents splashback, we found it much easier to drink from than other open-mouthed lids.

It felt better in hand than other similarly priced options and has a built-in coaster. The removable silicone koozie keeps the cup in place and provides more grip for easy holding. Though the lid will leak if the tumbler is knocked over, this grippy silicone base prevents frequent spills.

It comes in four colors. You can choose from metallic teal, metallic millennial pink, metallic mint, and matte black.

The stainless steel tumbler and rubber coaster aren’t dishwasher safe, but the plastic lid is. We also appreciate that the lid’s gaskets and the built-in coaster can be removed for deep cleaning.

Different kinds of insulated wine tumblers with lids pictured from above.

We have colleagues who have owned and liked the Brümate Uncork’d XL , but we found it heavy and difficult to use. Though it is leakproof, the screw-top lid and sealing mechanism felt like overkill: The lid was difficult to unscrew, and the flip-top required too much effort to open and close. The Uncork’d XL comes in more than 40 colors, but not all the colors are dishwasher safe. The grippy rubber bottom on our tumbler peeled off after hand-washing it only once.

At $30, the Hydro Flask 10 oz Ceramic Wine Tumbler was one of the more expensive tumblers we tested, but it wasn’t worth the investment. Though leakproof when sealed, the lid’s sliding mechanism was difficult to push open and closed, and the one-piece lid couldn’t be disassembled for deep cleaning. The tumbler also felt small in our hands, even though it holds the same amount of liquid as our top pick from Yeti.

Stanley’s Go Everyday Wine Tumbler lid can’t be sealed completely and has a wide mouth that splashes in your face while you sip. It performs a bit better than our budget pick from Ello in terms of temperature retention, but it doesn’t feel as nice in hand and costs nearly $10 more.

The Yukon Outfitters Freedom 10 oz Wine Tumbler looks exactly like the Yeti Rambler 10 oz Wine Tumbler and feels similar in hand—and costs under $10. But its lid isn’t leakproof, the sipping port slider feels flimsy, and it can only be washed by hand.

The Contigo River North Stainless Steel Wine Tumbler was disqualified by its sliding lid cover, which wiggled when we moved it, causing it to get stuck along the way.

Six insulated wine tumblers.

We evaluated nearly 35 wine tumblers from popular and lesser-known brands and narrowed our list down to eight based on the criteria below.

  • Good temperature retention: A good tumbler should be able to keep a frosty drink cold and crisp for hours after its been poured and should stop a hot beverage from getting lukewarm too quickly. Double-walled, vacuum-insulated tumblers made of stainless steel provide the best temperature retention , so we only tested tumblers that fit this criteria.
  • Leakproof lid and spill-proof rubber bottom: Tumblers shouldn’t leak or tip over easily. For this reason, we only considered lidded tumblers; we preferred lids with sealing mechanisms that cover the sipping port and rubber gaskets that keep the lid in place and can’t be jostled open easily. We also prioritized tumblers with grippy rubber bottoms that prevent them from sliding around, though we didn’t disqualify any contenders without this feature.
  • Easy to hold and drink from: A quality insulated tumbler doesn’t feel too cold or too hot to the touch or collect beaded drops of condensation. It should be pleasant to sip from, easy to grip, and fit in your hand comfortably.
  • Easy to clean: You’re more likely to reach for a tumbler that you can stick in the dishwasher at the end of the night than one you have to hand-wash. We also preferred lids with removable sliders and rubber gaskets, which allow for easy deep cleaning.
  • Aesthetically pleasing: We preferred wine tumblers available in a variety of colors and patterns that have a greater chance of appealing to a wide range of people.

We tested the tumblers’ ability to keep beverages cold over time by filling each with refrigerated water and ice and taking the temperature with an instant-read thermometer every hour for six hours. We did the same test the next day with boiling water, measuring the temperature in hour intervals over three hours.

To assess lid quality, we filled each tumbler with water and used the built-in mechanisms to seal the sipping port. Then we knocked them over to see how much, if any, liquid seeped out. We also took apart the lids to see how easy they were to clean, then ran the dishwasher-safe tumblers through a wash cycle.

We used the tumblers with a group of friends during a dinner party, which started early in the afternoon and stretched out into the evening. Some sipped cocktails in their cups, some drank wine, and others stuck to bubbly seltzer. We considered how the tumblers felt to sip from, how they felt to hold, and how long they kept nursed beverages at ideal temperatures.

After narrowing down the eight contenders to three finalists, my coworkers and I continued to use those tumblers regularly, drinking our morning coffees and afternoon seltzers from them. We plan to keep using our picks throughout the next few months and will update this piece in the future with how they’ve held up.

Liquor / Chloe Jeong

There’s always a good reason to keep a wine tumbler around—whether you’re sipping chilled wine on a hot summer day or taking some on a day-long adventure. Wine aficionados may initially turn their nose up at the idea of drinking from stainless steel or ceramic, but sometimes you just want your bubbles to stay cold while you’re out in the sun. Because there are so many options to choose from, we're here to help break down the best wine tumblers available, from super-insulating options made for the outdoors to extra large sizes. We've carefully home-tested the top brands and have selected our favorites. Some of the attributes in which we rated each item include design, durability, the quality of materials, the effectiveness to keep drinks hot or cold, and the overall value. Backed by in-depth testing, we chose the BrüMate Uncork'd Wine Glass Tumbler as our top pick. It was clearly the best quality for the price, and the layer of copper insulated the beverage for hours. The sleek design looked high-end and it even felt upscale in the hand.

Read on for all of our testing insights and which ones are our favorites.

Best Overall

Brümate uncork'd xl wine glass tumbler.

High quality

Pricier than some models

The Brümate wine tumbler is sleek, affordable, and comes in an assortment of designs and colors. The brand's products feature a layer of copper for insulation, which has earned countless top ratings, along with the lifetime warranty.

Our tester loved the unique design, compact shape, and the product's smooth feel in the hand. During testing, we found the packaging to be concise, containing cleaning directions, and stating all of the features on its exterior. There are even little stickers on the tumbler to explain all of the locks and closures.

Choosing this as our Best Overall, our tester found the quality-to-price ratio to be 10/10. And, in addition to keeping wine chilled, the cup can double as a temperature-controlled vessel for hot beverages (coffee, etc.)

"Brümate's wine tumbler is one of the best, if not THE best, bang-for-your-buck option in the to-go wine tumbler category. 10/10 recommend!" — Vicki Denig , product tester

Best Splurge

Yeti rambler 10 oz wine tumbler.

Dish washer safe

Lid available separately

Available in a variety of colors, the YETI Rambler 10-Ounce Wine Tumbler is made from durable, food-grade stainless steel. It’s meant to be used often, whether indoors or outdoors, as this vessel is built to withstand pretty much anything (including the dishwasher).

Out of all the tumblers tested, our tester liked the color and durability of this Yeti tumbler the most. Compared to other tumblers, the Yeti Rambler is a bit heavier in the hand. The brand-name appeal and the quality is what you'd expect for the price, albeit, on the more expensive side. We recommend this favorite tumbler for a picnic or outdoor function where lids may not be necessary, as this tumbler doesn’t come with a lid, so be sure to purchase that separately if needed. Best Value:

Maars bev stainless steel stemless wine glass tumbler with lid.

Easy to hold

Easy to clean

Lid has sipping hole that doesn't close

This best-selling insulated wine tumbler offers great value. Lightweight, dishwasher safe, and portable, these tumblers come with straw-friendly lids and are available in a variety of colors. Thanks to the double-walled and vacuum-sealed construction with copper lining, your wines and other chilled drinks will stay cold for up to nine hours while hot drinks will keep for up to three hours. To put things in perspective, these are the same features you’ll get with some of the pricier name brands.

During testing, we found the tumbler to be relatively easy to hold, it felt quite durable, and was easy to clean. Our tester appreciated the quality and functionality of the tumbler for the price. She also really liked that it comes in numerous colors and is suitable for hot and cold beverages. While testing, she wished the rim was thinner, as sipping out of the tumbler felt rather clunky. There was also a sipping hole on the lid that didn't have a closure and prevented the tumbler from being totally on-the-go friendly.

"The price of this tumbler is great for the quality. A tumbler (under) $10 that's functional? Sign me up!" Vicki Denig , product tester

Capacity: 12 ounces | Dimensions: 3.75″D x 3.75″W x 5″H | Material: Stainless Steel

Best Design

S'well stainless steel wine tumbler.

Stylish, unique design

Triple-layer insulation

Lid sold separately

S'well's 9-ounce wine tumbler keeps drinks hot or cold for hours, thanks to its vacuum-insulated, triple-layered stainless steel construction. Unlike many stainless steel wine tumblers, this one has a wide mouth for adding in a few ice cubes to your drink. (The brand also offers a pop-on stainless steel lid, but that is sold separately.) For a full set, there is a 25-ounce bottle available, which accommodates a full bottle of wine and keeps it cold for up to 24 hours.

During testing, we found this tumbler to be beautiful in person. We appreciated the wine's triple-layer insulation and eco-friendly packaging, as well as its non-sweating feature. Our tester also found it to be a plus that it's dishwasher friendly, for easy clean-up. Testing proved this tumbler to be effective, attractive, and sturdy. We were still wanting a lid and were disappointed to find out it was sold separately, making this model a little pricier than the average.

Our tester would recommend this as a great picnic or outdoor option to someone looking for something with a beautiful and unique design, perfect for keeping drinks chilled outdoors, though its lack of lid might not work for someone looking for a travel-friendly option.  Read Next: The Best Wine Glasses, According to Experts

"I really loved the beautiful design of this tumbler. The pattern is chic, feels sleek in the hand, and the size is perfect. 9oz. is the ideal size for comfort, especially for those with smaller hands." — Vicki Denig , product tester

Capacity: 9 ounces | Dimensions: 3.23″D x 3.23″W x 3.74″H | Material: Stainless Steel

Best Hybrid:

Thermo-steel ceramisteel wine tumbler.

Small size is comfortable to hold

Ceramic interior

Vacuum-sealed

With the insulation of stainless steel minus the feel of metal on your lips, this 9-ounce, dishwasher-safe wine tumbler features a ceramic-coated interior, lip and rim. The space between the steel and ceramic-coated layers is vacuum-sealed for ultimate temperature preservation; both stainless steel and ceramic are non-reactive, so there won't be any unwanted flavors imparted by the tumbler's interior.

Our tester found the tumbler's slightly smaller size (9 oz. versus 12 oz. or 14 oz.) made it more comfortable to hold. She also liked the ceramic interior more than the usual steel used in some models. However, because the lid is not included with the tumbler and must be purchased separately, she found temperature control and transportation to be more challenging.

"I'd recommend (this wine tumbler) to a family member who is nervous about using glass or is looking to drink their wine chilled at home without putting ice cubes in it (the forbidden sin!)" — Vicki Denig , product tester

Corkcicle Stemless Double-Walled Glass, Set of 2

Lightweight

These Corkcicle Double-Walled Glass Tumblers are perfect for outdoor use. Made from super lightweight glass, the insulated tumblers maintain temperatures (hot and cold) well and have flat, easy-grip sides.

Our tester found the prism-colored version of this tumbler created a rainbow-like, iridescent effect that, while pretty, skewed what she was looking at in the glass. Most tumblers are colored or opaque, so that isn't that unusual. During testing, we did find the rim to be ultra thick and a bit clunky in the hand. But we liked how lightweight there were and suspect these super durable tumblers are unlikely to break very easily. Though the glasses are dishwasher safe, it’s recommended that you hand wash most Corkcicle products.

Best X Large:

Big betty stemless wine tumbler.

Anti-spill lid

Ergonomic design

Big enough for ample ice

Hand wash only

Sometimes you just need a tall pour—that’s where this 16-ounce wine tumbler comes in. Complete with a BPA-free anti-spill lid, this double-walled tumbler is perfect for both hot and cold drinks, keeping the former warm for up to four hours and the latter cold for up to eight hours. Its ergonomic design ensures a secure grip, and the lip is slightly thinner than most other wine tumblers.

Our tester found this tumbler's large size and glittery exterior striking. The extra large 16-ounce size allows for a drink that contains a good amount of ice—perfect for a summer spritz—or you can use this to carry multiple drinks. During testing, we discovered that the rubber rim on the lid was slightly flimsy and made the lid difficult to snap back on. But, once on, the anti-spill lid came in handy.

Be sure to hand wash this tumbler and let it air dry to prevent any damage. Read Next: The Best Champagne Glasses, According to Experts

Claret insulated stainless steel wine tumbler, what to consider.

Believe it or not, not all wine tumblers are created equally. Instead of just buying the first one you can find, there are certain elements that can help ensure that using the cup is comfortable and suitable to your needs.

  • Capacity: Wine tumblers typically come in 10-12-ounce capacities to hold one serving of your drink of choice. These really aren't meant for an all-day sipping situation — that's why they're great to pack for events or shorter hangouts. If you want something larger in size to serve multiple people, an insulated water bottle may be better for you.
  • Insulation: Unlike insulated containers that have a screw-on top, wine tumblers are simply equipped with a BPA-free plastic top that's held in place with a silicone gasket. That means they're not as leakproof, and the press-on top won't give you superior insulation. Your drink may stay reasonably consistent with its just-poured temperature for a few hours, but it may warm-up/cool down at a faster rate since the lid isn't quite as airtight.

Yes, there might seem like an endless amount of wine tumbler options out there to choose from — but trust us, we've only included the very best ones on our list. Able to hold so much more than just vino, these are the best wine tumblers for all of your alfresco refreshments.

  • Capacity: 12 ounces
  • Color choices: 7

If you're looking for the absolute best wine tumbler, look no further than this one. We've used Corkcicle's Stemless Insulated Wine Tumbler for 2 years, and it continues to be one of our favorite go-to drink vessels.

This 12-ounce cup is made of stainless steel and is topped with a plastic lid. As far as its leakproof properties, it does a pretty good job. When filled with liquid and turned upside down with the lid securely attached and closed, it drips minimally but not in a steady stream.

There are two other thoughtful features that we love: The Corkcicle's flattened sides help with getting a secure grip on the cup, and its silicone bottom prevents the cup from tipping over easily or scratching surfaces. It may be a little pricey, but it does its job flawlessly.

Amazon's favorite wine tumbler doesn't disappoint. It's generously sized, has a sealable lid, and is available in a wide variety of colors. The cup even comes with its own bent stainless steel straw and cleaner. It's also super affordable and does its job well, which is exactly why people love it so much.

One small drawback? Users say that its wide base isn't cupholder-friendly.

  • Cup capacity: 10 ounces
  • Color choices: 6

This is the ideal wine tumbler set for pool parties or BYOB dinner gatherings. The cups themselves are made of stainless steel and glass. They're a little more fragile than other sets, but they feel more like regular wine glasses because of that heft.

The set also includes Vinglacé's Wine Bottle Insulator, which is a double-walled vessel that is made to hold a regular 750-milliliter bottle of wine. There's no need to decant your wine into this vessel — just pop the chilled bottle into the base and screw on the top, and you're good to go. Both the glasses and bottle insulators are sold separately, as well.

  • Color choices: 10

There's nothing worse than a drop of your favorite sparkling wine tumbling out of your tumbler. Gasp ! Prevent that crisis with this sleek, insulated Champagne flute from BrüMate.

Its built-in flip-top lid helps ensure that your bubbly will stay bubbly (and chilled) until you're ready to sip it.

  • Color choices: 14

For BYOB hangouts, this set of six wine glasses is a thoughtful way to serve drinks without having to resort to disposable drinkware. Bonus: They even come with stainless steel straws, so you're getting extra points for eco-friendliness .

Although their lids aren't sealable, the vessels themselves are insulated and sweatproof, so the drinks will stay cold (or hot!), even if there's a slight chance of spillage.

  • Capacity: 13 ounces
  • Color choices: 5

Slightly larger and wider than some of the other picks on this list, Coleman's 13-ounce Claret Wine Tumbler is ideal for a heavier pour.

Its no-sweat design is meant to keep your drink chilled for 6 whole hours. And although there's no lid included, reviewers say that the stainless steel build does an impressive job on its own. It also has a thin rim (so you won't feel like you're drinking out of a tin camping mug) and a rubberized bottom that helps it sit sturdily wherever it's placed.

Best Wine Tumblers Buying Guide

Wine glasses can be made of different materials, such as glass, silicone, plastic, or stainless steel. Most wine tumblers are made of stainless steel because they provide insulation to keep wine cold.

You can take stainless steel wine glasses or tumblers anywhere because they are robust. They don’t usually affect the drink’s taste, but some reported how their wine would have a metal aftertaste when stored in stainless steel tumblers. This factor may have something to do with the brand as well.

In contrast, the other materials mentioned are rarely used for wine tumblers. Still, they are utilized for other wine glass types. Glass is reserved for more formal vessels such as red wine glasses , whereas plastic wine glasses can be stemmed or stemless. The latter is similar to wine tumblers, but the difference is that they don’t have lids.

Silicone is probably the least nerve-wracking to use because it essentially doesn’t break, but it lacks stability. Plastic is the standard material used for picnic wine glasses .

Usually, wine tumblers can hold 8 to 20 ounces, the standard capacity being 12 ounces. You don’t have to follow the standard, so purchase the wine tumbler that keeps the drink amount that suits your needs.

Insulation is what keeps the wine inside the tumbler fresh. Wine tumblers with double walls are highly recommended, as this will prevent the drink from warming up quickly. Some are also designed with a thin layer of copper that contributes to the overall insulation.

If you plan on using a wine tumbler outdoors, you better get one that comes with a lid. An air-tight lid is valuable and important because it prevents spilling and splashing. Also, it protects your wine from any debris or insects.

Innovative and creative wine tumblers are the trend. They help elevate the product to appeal more to younger buyers. Designs may vary according to shape, size, color, pattern, etc. You can even customize your wine tumbler.

Wine Tumbler FAQ

1. what is a wine tumbler used for.

Wine is usually served in a wine glass which is stemmed, bowl-shaped, and transparent. It’s made from thin crystal or lead-free glass, making it prone to breakage. Meanwhile, wine tumblers are usually made of stainless steel, allowing you to drink wine outdoors. These vessels are also insulated, ensuring the coldness of your drink.

2. What are the benefits of using a wine tumbler?

Wine tumblers are portable and convenient for traveling. Bringing a wine glass in an informal setting can be a hassle. Wine tumblers are easier to carry, and you won’t need to worry about spillage or breakage.

3. Are wine tumblers only used for wine?

One of the advantages of wine tumblers is their versatility. Wine tumblers aren’t limited to wine; you can also use them to hold other cold drinks like cocktails, juices, or sodas. They are also handy for storing warm beverages such as coffee or tea.

4. Can you wash your wine tumblers in a dishwasher?

Yes, wine tumblers are dishwasher-safe as long as they are made with durable materials such as stainless steel or hard plastic. You can wash a wine tumbler in the dishwasher together with its lid, but you need to clean its straw by hand.

After multiple washes in a dishwasher, you may find your wine tumbler’s insulation to be not as efficient. Some brands recommend hand washing them to preserve their coating or paints longer.

5. How long does wine last in a tumbler?

It depends on the type of wine, but it is recommended to finish the drink in a wine tumbler within the day. It will start to go bad after 3 - 5 days.

Wine tumblers are perfect for those who don’t partake in outdoor wine drinking because of fear of spillage or breakage. They are also ideal for traveling, so you don't have to be conscious about packing your wine glass because these vessels are not fragile at all.

One excellent example that showcases the durability of wine tumblers is   YETI Rambler Wine Tumbler   . Its construction saves you from the risk of having broken glass everywhere. Meanwhile, SUNWILL Wine Tumbler lets you have a firm and comfortable grip without compromising your drink’s temperature. Finally, the BrüMate WineTumbler is excellent in both appearance and functionality. Its slide tab lid also allows you to bring any drink you want during your travels.

Serious Eats / Eric King

Straight to the point

Our favorite wine tumbler that had a lid with a sliding cover was the CamelBak Horizon 12-Ounce Wine Tumbler . The best one without a sliding lid cover? The Stanley Everyday Go Wine Tumbler . And for the best, cheapest wine tumbler, we had to choose the high-performing Simple Modern Wine Tumbler , at only $11.

For when you want to bring along some vino ( or Diet Coke! ) to your next outdoor concert, beach bonfire, grill session, or camping trip, but you don't want to risk handling actual, breakable glassware, there are wine tumblers. A little sporty and outdoorsy, but also a touch refined, these adult sippy cups promise to keep beverages cold or hot, prevent splashes or spills, and stand up to drops (and the elements) with their hearty stainless steel construction.

To find out which insulated wine tumblers lived up to these claims, we tested 13 of them. We evaluated how each tumbler on our list kept wine cold (yes, we added ice, please don’t yell at us), recorded how they stood up to falls and other wear and tear, and, of course, noted which ones were pleasant to hold and drink from.

The Winners, at a Glance

The best wine tumbler with no sliding lid, stanley everyday go wine tumbler.

This no-frills model from Stanley came in first place at keeping wine coldest the longest. It’s easy to hold and use, durable, and falls pretty squarely in the average price range for this lineup.

The Best Wine Tumbler with a Sliding Lid

Camelbak horizon 12-ounce wine tumbler.

If you are trying to prevent splashes—or bugs from getting into your beverages—you might consider this lidded model from CamelBak. It kept wine very cold for four hours, was easy to hold, and resisted dents and scratches.

The Best, Cheapest Wine Tumbler

Simple modern wine tumbler with press-in lid.

Despite its super simple construction, this tumbler (with no slider on the lid) kept wine almost as cold as the Stanley model, was easy to use, and stood up to falls with no denting or other damage. It’s not dishwasher-safe, but it is just $11.

  • Insulation Test: We placed three of the same bottles of white wine (a Sauvignon Blanc) in the refrigerator overnight. Then, the next day, we poured six ounces of wine and one cube of ice (24 grams each) into each tumbler. We let the tumblers sit with their lids on (if any) and any sliders (if any) covering the openings. Using an instant-read thermometer , we recorded the temperature of the wine every hour for four hours.
  • Drinking Test: We then filled each tumbler with two more ice cubes, allowed them to sit for a few minutes, then drank from each. We noted how comfortable the tumbler was to hold, whether it became cold on the outside, and how pleasant it was to drink from.
  • Durability Test: For each tumbler, we removed and replaced the lid 15 times, noting the difficulty of the task. Then, we dropped each from hip height onto a hardwood floor to see if they would dent or scratch. To see if and how much the tumblers with lids leaked, we filled each with six ounces of water, capped them, closed any slides or tabs over the hole, and tilted each on its side over the sink.
  • Cleanup Test: We hand-washed each tumbler and lid, noting how easy they were to clean.

What We Learned

Slider lids vs. non-sliding lids vs. no lids.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the tumblers without lids mostly performed poorly at cold retention, *but* the one that came in last (Vinglacé) was fitted with a slider lid, and the one that came third to last (Corkcicle) had a slider lid as well. The top four slots went like this:

  • Stanley (lid, no slider)
  • Simple Modern (lid, no slider)
  • YETI (lid, slider)
  • Brümate (lid, a flip tab with a locking mechanism)

It should also be noted that Brümate was the only model with a screw-on lid. Because of these results, we have to think that while lids helped keep drinks cold, whether or not they have sliders or close tabs wasn’t the only determining factor when it came to cold retention.

What Else Made a Difference in Cold-Retention?

Whether they boasted about being “triple” or “double-walled” in their product descriptions also didn’t seem to impact cold retention. In the description for the Simple Modern model, it talks about one feature the others didn’t mention: a copper-coated insulation layer. “The exterior of the inner wall, in the vacuum sealed area,” it reads , “is coated in a thin layer of copper for added insulation.” This could be the secret behind its stellar performance—only losing 7.8°F in four hours and finishing just .3 °F behind our favorite from Stanley. It appears as though YETI, which also performed well at cold-retention, shares this feature .

Another common feature of low-performing models was an interior made of something other than stainless steel, like ceramic or glass. The ceramic-interior tumblers, Hydro Flask and CeramiSteel , came in 9th and 10th, respectively. And Vinglacé , with its removable glass-interior, came in last for cold retention.

As far as tumbler shape and cold retention, we found that, in general, models that seemed to have a larger gap between the inner chamber and outer insulation layer performed better. On the other end, Hydro Flask, Ceramisteel, and S’well , all low performers in insulation, seem to have very slim gaps in between the inner and outer layers.

Which Lids Prevented Leaks, Spills, and Splashes?

There were only two models that fully avoided any leakage: Brūmate and Vinglacé. Brūmate had a screw-on lid that also had a rubber gasket for a tighter seal. That model also had a (fairly complicated) tab mechanism that flipped down and then locked its slider into place. This made opening it somewhat like solving a puzzle box, but gave us confidence that one could pack it up in a picnic basket and not worry about soaking their brie.

Vinglacé had a simple slider with rubber gaskets that covered its lid's opening, and spouted no leaks whatsoever. (We have less confidence that this one would remain leak-free over long periods, as it’s not screw-on.) Swig Life shared a similar style lid closure and, for the most, part resisted leakage, but did dribble just a bit when tilted over the sink.

As for the rest of the wine tumblers, the other lids that had sliders leaked. And lidded models with no slider, well, those are really only meant to prevent splashes from getting out, and bugs and heat from getting in.

The Criteria: What We Look for in a Wine Tumbler

Our favorite wine tumblers have a few things in common. We preferred models with lids, as opposed to ones without, for their leak-, spill-, and splash prevention—as well as cold-retention and a barrier against bugs. As far as which lid style is better, it depends on what you’re doing. If you’re enjoying a your iced coffee in the backyard, there might not be a need for a lid with a slider. However, if you’re on-the-go, a slider can help prevent splashes and huge spills (although you can read above which ones were actually, totally leak-proof). Importantly, the lids and their respective closures (if any) had to be easy to open and close smoothly.

We preferred models that were stainless steel inside and out—no ceramic or glass interiors. No difference in taste was detected, but the ceramic or glass models had poor cold retention. We also liked models that had silicone bases to help with stability and prevent scratches and dents.

The Best Wine Tumblers

The best wine tumbler.

What we liked: Right off the bat, this tumbler plunged our wine to the coldest temperature after one hour (32.9°F) and kept it the coldest over four hours landing at 41.1°F. At no time other than hour two did any model best Stanley at cold-retention: YETI by only .9°F.

The Stanley's slimmer profile made it the most comfortable to hold and we liked its angled (versus rounded) bowl, which was easier to grip. Unlike other models, the lid sits completely in the tumbler with a little tab sticking up and over the rim, which makes it very easy to remove.

We were impressed by this tumbler's resistance to dents and scratches, too. After dropping it from hip height we noted no visible damage. Its silicone base also helps with durability—as well as helping it stay put on the countertop.

What we didn’t like: While the lid is by far the simplest out of the lineup (it’s just one solid piece of Tritan plastic with some rubber gaskets) it is slightly finicky to press back into the tumbler once it’s out. And, also, the lid leaks when tilted 90 degrees—not just out of the mouth opening, but also out of the sides. To us, this isn’t a huge deal because lids like this are meant to just prevent splashes or to stop a small spill from becoming a big spill.

  • Materials: Stainless steel; plastic
  • Capacity: 10 ounces
  • Weight: 7.8 ounces
  • Care instructions: Dishwasher-safe

What we liked: While this model didn’t beat the other slider-lid model in the cold retention test (YETI) they were neck and neck at 40.2°F in hour three. CamelBak’s other features, though, helped it grab the top spot in this category.

The lid is easy to remove and replace, and the slider is different from any other wine tumbler we tested. It has three positions: open, half-open, and closed. This meant the drinker could control the flow of wine.

A slimmer body and angled bowl make it more comfortable and stable to hold, as you can support and lift from the bottom side without your hand sliding up and down. As with Stanley, this model stood up to drops from hip height—receiving only barely visible dents. We also appreciated the silicone base for added stability and protection.

What we didn’t like: While we love the functionality of the “tri-mode” slider lid, it isn’t the most elegant to look at or the smoothest to use. And like almost every other slider lid, this one leaked when we tilted it over the sink. Bottom line: most slider lids aren’t meant to prevent splashes and big spills—and you should keep your wine tumblers upright to avoid major leakage.

  • Materials: Silicone; stainless steel
  • Capacity: 12 ounces
  • Weight: 6.5 ounces
  • Care instructions: Dishwasher-safe
  • Features: “Tri-Mode” slider lid for flow control

What we liked: We were impressed by this very good, very affordable tumbler. With almost no bells and whistles, a slim construction, and a slider-less lid, it managed to come in second place overall in our cold-retention test (just .3°F warmer than the Stanley model).

This was the tallest model we tested at five inches tall, but it’s also one of the slimmest, which made holding it comfortable. The slider-less lids pops on and off with little effort, and the medium-sized mouthpiece makes for a pleasant drinking experience, ensuring a steady, nice flow of wine.

What we didn’t like: Well, it’s not dishwasher-safe and the opening is more narrow than other tumblers, which made cleanup tougher. We also wish that, like our other favorite models, this one had a silicone base to help with stability.

  • Weight: 7.2 ounces
  • Care instructions: Body is hand-wash only; lid is dishwasher-safe
  • Features: The exterior of the inner wall is coated in a thin layer of copper for added insulation

The Competition

  • Swig Life 12-oz Insulated Wine Tumbler with Lid : This is a good tumbler. Its silicone bottom is designed to be popped off and replaced and while we liked some of the features of the CamelBak more, we think this is still a great slider-lid tumbler.
  • YETI Rambler 10-oz Wine Tumbler : This was the model that kept liquid ice-cold the longest, rising from 33.6 to just 33.9°F from hour one to hour two in our cold retention test. But we found that, even for big hands, its wide, rounded exterior made it the hardest tumbler to hold. The slider, which is uniquely powered by magnets, puts up a good fight at preventing leaks, just barely dribbling, but the tumbler dented easily and didn’t have the silicone base we like on other models
  • BrüMate Uncork’d XL Wine Tumbler : At 14 ounces, this tumbler had the largest capacity in our lineup. It was also one of the two models that prevented any leakage whatsoever, thanks to its (admittedly clunky) screw-on lid and (admittedly complicated) flip tab that locked in place. However, it was difficult to hold, and its lid made it more trouble than it was worth to clean and use.
  • Ello Clink Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Tumbler : A very standard tumbler that performed average in the cold-retention test, but with one feature that separates it from the rest: a silicone base that comes one-third of the way up its sides. This made it easy to hold and durable when dropped. However, we worry that the silicone could attract hard-to-remove stains.
  • Hydro Flask 10-oz Insulated Wine Tumbler : This was one of the two models with a ceramic interior, but we couldn’t tell a difference in taste. While we loved its small size, it didn’t perform well in our cold retention test and we didn’t like that the opaque black lid didn’t allow you to see how much liquid was left. It also dented easily when dropped from hip height.
  • Corkcicle Insulated Wine Tumbler with Lid : While we liked this model’s flat sides, it performed third to last in cold retention. Plus, its lid sports a flimsy slider and spurts out wine way too fast.
  • SUNWILL Insulated Wine Tumbler : Performing middling in our cold retention test, this model’s lid produced an uneven flow.
  • CeramiSteel Ceramic Wine Tumbler : This tumbler was both lidless and had a ceramic interior, making it unique. The ceramic coating didn’t affect taste, and despite having no lid, it beat out two models *with* lids in the cold retention test, coming in 10th place.
  • S’well Stainless Steel Wine Tumbler : The smallest tumbler in our lineup, and one of two without a lid, this was nice to drink from and the easiest to hold—but performed second to last in our cold-retention test.
  • Vinglacé Stainless Steel Stemless Wine Glass : Coming dead last in our cold retention test (by 3°F!) this big, bulky model has a removable glass chamber (that only holds 10 ounces).

Can a wine tumbler be used for coffee?

While wine tumblers can hold more than just wine, we don't recommend it. "I tested wine tumblers when I worked for America's Test Kitchen and found that the heat retention of wine tumblers wasn't as good as, say, a thermos (most kept coffee above 130°F for about an hour)," says associate commerce editor Grace Kelly . "I also found that the coffee flavor tended to permeate the cup, making sips of wine taste slightly like stale coffee (ick!). Plus, if the tumblers sported slider lids, the steam buildup from the hot coffee often caused them to spurt when you opened it. Overall, I'd recommend using wine tumblers for cold drinks, and saving the hot stuff for a thermos."

How many ounces is a wine tumbler?

Most wine tumblers range from around 9 to 12 ounces—with some models holding up to 14 ounces.

Does the Yeti wine tumbler come with a lid?

The Yeti wine tumbler does come with their proprietary Mag-Slider lid. According to reviews on their site from over two years ago, it appears they were initially not sold with lids.
