Philippines snags asia’s best cruise destination at world cruise awards.

The Good News Pilipinas Team

The Philippines sails to the forefront as Asia’s Best Cruise Destination for 2023, a first-of-its-kind recognition from the esteemed World Cruise Awards. This accolade propels the nation further into prominence in the global cruise and tourism arena.

Held in Dubai at the Atlantis The Royal on October 16, the World Cruise Awards 2023 spotlighted the Philippines for its exceptional contributions to the cruise sector. The country edged out competitors including India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

According to the Philippine Department of Tourism, the nation is set to welcome cruise ships at 128 ports across 33 distinct destinations. These cruises are projected to bring in over 101,000 passengers and approximately 50,000 crew members.

Among the ships making their way to Philippine waters are the Seaborne Encore, Silver Shadow, MSC Poesia, and Queen Elizabeth, to name a few. Notably, the Blue Dream Cruise made its inaugural trip to the country this month.

“The Philippines is world-renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, pristine beaches, diverse marine life, and warm hospitality. Our archipelago of 7,641 islands offers a wide array of cruise experiences, from exploring picturesque coastlines and coral reefs to immersing in local culture and traditions,” said Philippine Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.

The World Cruise Awards is a sister event to the World Travel Awards, which also recently honored the Philippines as Asia’s Leading Dive Destination for the fifth consecutive year.

The Philippine islands of Boracay, Palawan, and Siargao have also recently earned Conde Nast Travel’s Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Islands in Asia .

SCENIC SWEEPS SIX 2022 WORLD CRUISE AWARDS IN RIVER AND OCEAN CATEGORIES, ADDING TO ITS 2022 COLLECTION

COURTESY Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours: Hollywood, Fla. & Vancouver, B.C. November 2022 – Scenic Group, parent company of Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, and Emerald Cruises, is proud to be recognized for its luxury river and ocean cruise products by winning six 2022 World Cruise Awards. The World Cruise Awards serve to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in the global cruise sector through their annual awards program.

  • World’s Best Cruise Ship for Dining 2022: Scenic Eclipse
  • World’s Best River Cruise Suite 2022: Royal Panorama Suite – Scenic Spirit
  • Asia’s Best River Cruise Ship 2022: Scenic Spirit
  • Asia’s Best River Cruise Suite 2022: Royal Panorama Suite – Scenic Spirit
  • Europe’s Best River Cruise Line 2022: Scenic
  • North America’s Best Cruise Line 2022: Scenic

We work every year to deliver to our guests the best experiences and lifetime memories – and always strive to keep improving on the prior year’s results,” responded Anna Wolfsteiner, Scenic Group’s Global Chief of Sales & Marketing Officer. “It is such a great feeling and honor for us to be recognized across so many categories as being the best of the best. It serves as a testament to the strength of our brand across the world, the quality of our products, and the delivery of excellence and luxury across both our river and ocean cruises.”

This has been a stellar year for Scenic and awards. Besides the six mentioned World Cruise Awards, Scenic has received the Condé Nast Traveler 2022 Reader’s Choice Award for Best River Cruise Line and the recently announced two Cruise Critic Awards – Best Service and Best Dining in the Expedition Category. Past awards for the Scenic Group from Condé Nast Travel and Cruise Critic have recognized its level of service, value, offered experiences and ship design.

Scenic Group, which includes Emerald Cruises, Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, and Mayflower Cruises & Tours, has grown over its 36-year history to include award-winning, river and ocean cruises and handcrafted land journeys that take guests to many of the world’s most fascinating destinations covering all seven continents. Discover the Best Cruise Destinations in 2023

DUBAI, U.A.E. – The Philippines has proudly clinched the title of Asia’s Best Cruise Destination 2023 at the prestigious World Cruise Awards. This notable achievement marks the first time the Philippines has received this recognition, building the country’s reputation as an emerging powerhouse in the global cruise and tourism sector.

The World Cruise Awards, an annual program that celebrates excellence in the cruise industry, is affiliated with the renowned World Travel Awards. The awards program recognizes outstanding contributions to the cruise industry and is a highly anticipated event for cruise professionals, media, and consumers worldwide.

Philippines Named Asia's Best Cruise Destination 2023 by World Cruise Awards

Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the award noting that “This first time recognition as Asia’s Best Cruise Destination 2023 is a big win for Philippine tourism as it reflects a resounding global preference for our island destinations.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to all our tourism stakeholders for their hard work and collaboration. The shared tourism governance between government and the private sector espoused by the Marcos Administration is bearing fruit. We are committed to maintain and enhance the Philippines’ standing as an outstanding cruise destination in Asia and the world,” the tourism chief added.

Other countries that vied for the award include India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

As of October 16, 2023, The Philippines is projected to have 128 ports of call or cruise calls in 2023 across 33 destinations across the country. These cruise ships are expected to bring in more than 101,000 passengers and some 50,000 in estimated crew.

“The Philippines is world-renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, pristine beaches, diverse marine life, and warm hospitality. Our archipelago of 7,641 islands offers a wide array of cruise experiences, from exploring picturesque coastlines and coral reefs to immersing in local culture and traditions,” enthused the tourism chief.

Among the arriving cruise ships include the Seaborne Encore, Silver Shadow, MSC Poesia, Queen Elizabeth, Norwegian Jewel, Coral Adventure, MS Seven Seas Explorer, MS Star Breeze, Silver Whisper, Oceania Cruises, Aidabella, and the Blue Dream Cruise which has made its maiden voyage to the Philippines this month.

“With Boracay, Palawan, and Siargao having recently garnered Conde Nast Travel’s Best Islands in Asia Award, the Philippines’ recognition as Asia’s Best Cruise Destination complements and reaffirms our status as a must-visit destination for cruise enthusiasts. This prestigious award is not only a testament to the Philippines’ allure as a cruise destination but also a validation of the collective dedication of the tourism industry and the Department of Tourism. This augurs well for our strategic objective to equalize tourism development, as we put the spotlight on lesser-known destinations by expanding our cruise tourism portfolio to include new tourism destinations in time to come. We are grateful that the country’s potential to offer exceptional cruise experiences is now acknowledged on a global scale,” added the Secretary.

Bon voyage! Philippines named ‘Asia’s Best Cruise Destination’ for 2023

MANILA, Philippines – Don’t you love it when we’re cruising together? Start setting those travel goals for next year, because the Philippines has just been hailed Asia’s Best Cruise Destination for 2023 by the World Cruise Awards!

In a Facebook post on Monday, October 16, the Department of Tourism (DoT) announced the prestigious win, sharing that it is the first time the country has received this recognition. According to DoT, the award will help “build the country’s reputation as an emerging powerhouse in the global cruise and tourism sector.” It is also a big win for Philippine tourism, as it “reflects a resounding global preference for our island destinations” across the archipelago.

The Philippines bested neighboring nominees like Japan, India, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Several cruise lines will be arriving soon, such as Seaborne Encore, Silver Shadow, MSC Poesia, Queen Elizabeth, Norwegian Jewel, Coral Adventure, MS Seven Seas Explorer, MS Star Breeze, Silver Whisper, Oceania Cruises, Aidabella, and the Blue Dream Cruise, which made its maiden voyage to the country in October. Norwegian Jewel’s six-month Asia season will offer cruises ranging in length from 10-14 days, and will have its first-ever departures from Manila, Boracay, Palawan, and Salomague in Ilocos.

According to DoT, as of October 16, 2023, The Philippines is projected to have 128 ports of call or cruise calls in 2023 across 33 destinations across the country, with these cruise ships expected to bring in more than 101,000 passengers and some 50,000 in estimated crew.

The World Cruise Awards – affliated with the World Travel Awards – is an annual international awards program that “celebrates excellence in the cruise industry and recognizes outstanding contributions to the cruise industry.”

In September, the Philippines’ was named Asia’s Leading Dive Destination by the World Travel Awards 2023 for the fifth consecutive year. In October, the Philippines was also named Asia Pacific’s Best Dive Destination by the 2023 Travel Weekly Asia (TWA) Readers’ Choice Awards. The award came shortly after readers of luxury lifestyle and travel magazine Condé Nast hailed Boracay, Palawan, and Siargao among the best islands in Asia for 2023. – Rappler.com

CLIA Congratulates its Hall of Fame Inductee Class of 2024

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER

Awarded to two individuals — one from the CLIA North American Travel Trade Membership and one from either a CLIA Global Cruise Line Member or River Marketing Affiliate — who are lifetime champions of cruise travel and have made monumental contributions to the cruise industry.

Christine Duffy President Carnival Cruise Line

Steering the flagship brand of Miami -based global cruise industry leader Carnival Corporation & plc. and the world's most popular cruise line, Carnival Cruise Line, President Christine Duffy leads more than 48,000 team members delivering fun and memorable cruises to more than 5.5 million guests each year. Duffy is at the helm of all operations across Carnival's fleet of 27 ships sailing from 14 U.S. homeports and two homeports in Australia , where she also oversees the operations of three ships that sail for P&O Cruises Australia.

Duffy most recently ushered the company through a rapid growth phase with the acquisition of five new ships in a period of two years. The cruise line's fleet expansion continues with two more of its largest and most innovative Excel- class ships in 2027 and 2028. She's also currently focused on the development of the cruise line's new exclusive destination, Celebration Key, which opens in July 2025 on Grand Bahama .

Under Duffy's leadership, Carnival became the first major U.S. cruise line to have its entire fleet back in operations after the industry-wide pause. Part of that restart coincided with the cruise line's implementation of Liquefied Natural Gas, with Carnival's Mardi Gras becoming the first LNG-powered cruise ship in North America . The same ship also took cruise ship attractions to new heights with the introduction of BOLT: The Ultimate SeaCoaster, a first at sea. Duffy's tenure also includes several major milestones in the company's history, including the year-long celebration of its 50th birthday in 2022 and the moment it welcomed its 100 millionth guest on board in 2023.

Expanding the company's ubiquitous brand recognition, Duffy continues to build partnerships, from inviting Shaquille O'Neal on board as the company's Chief Fun Officer and Emeril Lagasse as the fleet's Chief Culinary Officer, to meeting ambitious fundraising goals for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and supporting military families through Operation Homefront.

Duffy, the cruise line's first woman president, has served in this role since 2015 while simultaneously advocating for the entire cruise industry – including an appointment to the Secretary of Commerce to the United States Travel and Tourism Advisory Board and having also served as chair of the U.S. Travel Association, the national, non-profit organization representing all components of the travel industry, from 2020 to 2022. She joined Carnival after a successful tenure as president and CEO of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which represents the $120 billion global cruise industry. As the first woman to lead CLIA, she elevated the industry's profile before consumers, regulators, industry stakeholders and the media.

Prior to CLIA, Christine spent 10 years at Maritz Travel Company, the world's largest corporate meeting, events, and incentive travel company, where she was the company's first woman president and CEO. While leading Maritz, Christine played an important role with industry leaders and U.S. travel during the financial crisis of 2008, raising awareness about the importance of business travel and solidifying support in Washington . Her leadership led to a number of initiatives, including the first-ever public/private partnership to promote international travel to the U.S. creating what is known today as Brand USA . Throughout her career, Duffy has been a strong supporter of women's leadership in the travel industry, leading initiatives that delivered research and programs to help women advance their careers.
