The Bronx Announce 2022 Australian Tour

Los Angeles punk icons (and honorary Australians) The Bronx have announced their return to the country, plotting their first tour Down Under since 2018.

Last in the country over three years ago, a lot has happened for The Bronx since then. While COVID saw them sidelined almost completely throughout 2020, the group not only released a new record as their Mariachi El Bronx alter egos last year, but followed things up with their sixth self-titled effort ( Bronx VI , for those wondering) just a few months ago.

Now, as the world slowly continues to open up, and with live shows once again finding themselves more prevalent following years on hold, The Bronx have announced their return to the country, plotting an Australian tour for mid-2022.

Kicking things off in Perth on May 17th, the group will visit Adelaide, Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne, and Geelong, before heading across the ditch for shows in Wellington and Auckland.

Joining The Bronx on their highly anticipated return to Australia is West London five-piece Chubby and the Gang, who – after forming in 2019 by members of a number of UK hardcore bands – will be making their first visit to Australia.

Tickets to The Bronx’s upcoming tour go on sale from 10am, Friday, December 17th, while a Live Nation pre-sale kicks off at 12pm on Wednesday, December 15th.

The band will return to Australia in May alongside London punks Chubby And The Gang

Los Angeles rockers The Bronx have announced they’ll tour Australia next year in support of latest album ‘Bronx VI’.

The tour will run throughout May next year, with stops in Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Geelong.

The band will be joined on tour by London punks Chubby and the Gang , who themselves released latest album ‘The Mutt’s Nuts’ in August. Tickets go on sale this Friday (December 17).

‘Bronx VI’, the band’s sixth album and first since 2017’s ‘V’, arrived back in August after being previewed with singles like ‘White Shadow’ and ‘Superbloom’ .

Speaking to  NME earlier this year, frontman Matt Caughthran talked about how making “a big, badass rock record and having fun” drove the band’s latest album after the socially and politically-charged ‘V’.

“It’s very much a return to style,” Caughthran explained. “It feels heavy when it needs to be, but nothing feels forced. It’s got a lot of sarcasm to it, it’s got a lot of aggression but it also feels big.”

“You can’t deprive yourself of experiencing happiness within your art. You can’t block the joy out. People say positivity is death to a punk rocker but the only thing that’s death to an artist is doing the same thing over and over again.”

Josh Scogin kickstarted his small band with the big sound in 2013, naming the two-man outfit he modestly undersells as “a little rock, a little blues, a little hardcore” after his father’s old Camaro. And there’s a muscle car-sized rumble beneath the hood of what the Atlanta, Georgia native and his percussive partner-in-crime, Nikko Yamada, unleash with an array of guitar, bass, drums, keys, and pedals, careening between swinging barnburners, wild haymakers, and moody atmosphere.

The Bronx to Celebrate Their Debut Album on 2023 Australian Tour

Californian punk veterans The Bronx will head to Australia in November this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, The Bronx (I). The band will play Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on Friday, 17th November, followed by the Triffid in Brisbane, Sydney’s Metro Theatre, Adelaide’s The Gov, and finally Magnet House in Perth on Wednesday, 22nd November.

The Bronx will be joined at all dates by Melbourne five-piece CIVIC – who have just returned from a string of UK shows – and Atlanta duo ’68 . See the full rundown of dates and ticketing details below.

The Bronx: ‘False Alarm’

The band released their debut self-titled album in 2003, the first of five self-titled records that they would release. Their latest full-length landed in 2021, Bronx VI, featuring cuts like ‘White Shadow’, ‘Superbloom’, and ‘Curb Feelers’. They have deviated from the self-titled route over the years, releasing V in 2017 and Dead Tracks Vol 1 & 2 in 2019 – and by releasing albums as their side project Mariachi El Bronx .

No strangers to our shores, the band were last in Australia for a tour in 2022 , which followed their previous tour in 2018 when they circled the country with Private Function and High Tension.

“With  Bronx I , we were crazy, figuring everything out, going nuts, having a good time,” Matt Caughthran told Music Feeds in 2018 . “By  Bronx II , we’d become real musicians, going for that major label goal.  Bronx III,  we’re depressed, we’re broke.  Bronx IV,  you know, the rocky comeback –  Bronx V  it was like, okay we’re still here, still motivated.”

“I still love playing those songs, I don’t piss on that at all,” Caughthran continued. “We’re not one of those bands who are mad at people who like one record over another. It’s cool. I’m super stoked that people… still give a shit about that record.”

Fans of Californian party punks The Bronx have no doubt been enviously watching footage of the band's mammoth 20th anniversary celebrations over the past few months.

Thankfully, their unabashed love of Australia meant we knew it was a matter of when, not if, they would be bringing the show down here. Today, they've locked the dates and venues for their return, with five wild nights scheduled for this November.

The Bronx stormed into our lives with their debut album in 2003. We'd assumed its wild and pummelling brand of punk rock would work brilliantly on the live stage and it wasn't long before that was confirmed as the band made the first of many Australian visits early in 2004.

Since then, the band have given us six albums (they're all called The Bronx ) as well as a couple as Mariachi El Bronx, and brought their breakneck punk rock power to sweaty little clubs, massive festival stages and everything in between.

On their forthcoming tour, The Bronx will have Melburnian garage rock kings Civic holding down main support duties. Their two recent LPs are essential works for fans of classic Australian punk rock, as the band refresh the grimy, surfy style for the modern day.

Also on board are '68, an Atlantan duo led by frontman Josh Scogin who are described as "a little rock, a little blues, a little hardcore". It'll be their first time on our shores since 2017, so we recommend getting there early (and wearing earplugs) to experience their force.

Californian punk rock band THE BRONX have today announced their return to Australia in November 2023 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of their first album The Bronx (I). They will be joined by special guests CIVIC (Aus) and ’68 (USA) at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre, Brisbane’s Triffid, Sydney’s Metro Theatre, Adelaide’s The Gov and Perth’s Magnet House.

The Bronx formed in 2002, releasing their self-titled debut album the following year. Over the Los Angeles-based band’s 21 year career, The band has released six original albums as The Bronx, and three albums under their alter ego, Mariachi El Bronx. Both iterations of the legendary SoCal outfit have been hailed for harnessing the “unleashed cries of youthful blue-collar anguish” (Los Angeles Times), and for writing “hard-hitting and catchy hard rock tracks” (Loudwire). The Bronx is Matt Caughthran (vocals), Joby J. Ford (guitar), Ken Horne (guitar), Brad Magers (bass) and Joey Castillo (drums).

Tickets for all shows go on sale at 10am (local time) on Friday July 28

The band recently wrapped an incredible run of shows in the UK at this year’s  The Great Escape Festival as well as this past Spring’s US debut at  SXSW 2023 that had the  Austin Chronicle declaring, “CIVIC’s Tough Sound Confirms Aussie Punk Supremacy,” had Minneapolis’  The Current writing, “…CIVIC are a force on the stage…” and Philadelphia’s  Magnet stating, “If there were better bands than CIVIC at SXSW this year, we didn’t hear them.” CIVIC did not disappoint those in attendance, creating a visceral, unforgettable experience with their energetic and intense sets led by the always engaging frontman Jim McCullough.

One of the most exhilarating bands to emerge in recent years, CIVIC have reimagined the reckless intensity of proto-punk for an era of endless uncertainty. Their sophomore full-length  Taken By Force – an immersive and emotionally arresting body of work – follows their critically acclaimed 2021 debut LP  Future Forecast . The Melbourne-based band offers up a barrage of songs matching their frenetic sound with both self-aware outpouring and incisive observation of the world around them. With the new album, CIVIC joyfully obliterate the line between furious catharsis and unbridled fun, introducing a vital new energy into today’s musical landscape. ABOUT ‘68:

Josh Scogin kickstarted his small band with the big sound in 2013, naming the two-man outfit he modestly undersells as “a little rock, a little blues, a little hardcore” after his father’s old Camaro. And there’s a muscle car-sized rumble beneath the hood of what the Atlanta, Georgia native and his percussive partner-in-crime, Nikko Yamada, unleash with an array of guitar, bass, drums, keys, and pedals, careening between swinging barnburners, wild haymakers, and moody atmosphere.

The passion, the hunger, the good humor, it all connects with diverse crowds. Deliciously stripped down and vibrant, ’68 excels in intimate environments, to be sure, but is no less unignorable on giant festival stages or on the road with Bring Me The Horizon, Stone Sour, Beartooth, Avatar, August Burns Red, The Amity Affliction, and Underoath, where they’ve earned new converts every day.

In Humor and Sadness, the first album by ’68, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard New Artist Chart. Two Parts Viper followed in 2017. Grammy-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains) became a believer after just a few songs of a ’68 set.
