Nice article. But please clarify my doubts: You have written safari rate is Rs.260 for adults; Is it for one person or for a group? If it is for a group, please also tell me for a group with how many people they charge this much.

260 is per person for bus safari and zoo entry. Awesome Safari. Totally worth it.

I’ve been to numerous national parks, but Bannerghatta holds a special place in my heart. Here’s why.

As I approached the park, the subtle chirping of the birds intertwined with the fresh scent of the woods. It felt like I had entered a vast emerald painting.

Immediately, I felt a wave of nostalgia – it reminded me of those childhood trips with my parents where the journey was as mesmerizing as the destination.

Bannerghatta National Park Safari Experience

The safari at Bannerghatta National Park is a highlight , offering an unforgettable encounter with nature. This experience exceeded my expectations, providing a rare opportunity to witness wildlife in its natural habitat.

This respect for the park’s inhabitants is further exemplified by the efforts to minimize noise and pollution from the vehicles, reflecting the park’s commitment to conservation.

The sight of a Bengal tiger in its natural glory was the pinnacle of the safari. Seeing such majestic creatures up close, far from their portrayal on television, was mesmerizing.

Additionally, the Butterfly Park at Bannerghatta is a must-visit. This vibrant oasis, brimming with colorful butterflies, is enchanting. It reminded me of the sheer joy of childhood, chasing butterflies, a feeling that this park magnifies a hundredfold.

Safari at Bannerghatta will cost you more

Representational Image (Photo | PTI)

BENGALURU: After a gap of two years, the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) management hiked safari rates, but did not change park entry rates. The revised rates will come into effect from January 1.

The decision was taken by the Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) and committee members at a meeting on Thursday. The proposal to hike safari rates was also proposed by Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), BBP’s safari partners.

While rates have been hiked by Rs 30 for non-AC bus safari, and by Rs 50 for AC bus safari, there is change for the six, seven and eight-seater safari jeep, Innova and AC Xylo for weekdays. However, prices have been increased by Rs 300 for weekends.

Vanashree Vipin Singh, Executive Director, BBP, said rates for family jeep safari package -- including a visit to the zoo, safari ride, butterfly park and camera charges -- have not been hiked for weekdays. “We have done this because we want to encourage people to visit BBP on weekdays. The rush is very high on weekends and sometimes, it is beyond capacity. People take leave on weekdays for family holidays. So why not spare a day for a visit to the zoo,” she said.

She explained that safari rates have been revised because of Rs 40 rise in fuel charges, Rs 40 rise in meat cost, 10 per cent increase in wages to staffers, maintenance charge hike and rise in consumer price index.  BBP is self-sustaining, and its expenditure is met from ticket revenue. The ticket for zoo visitors continues to be Rs 100 for adults and Rs 80 for children.

Bannerghatta National park Butterfly park

Everyone loves butterflies. And we all have chased them as kids; perhaps, even touched one. So, how about a garden full of butterflies? But, we’re not talking about a little, ordinary garden here. We’re talking of a 7-acre park with over 40 species of butterflies! In other words, a massive butterfly enclosure. That is the butterfly park at Bannerghatta National Park. The Butterfly Park is the first and a unique butterfly enclosure in India, established in 2006.

The butterfly park consists of various sections:

  • Firstly, there is a butterfly garden that consists of different species of butterflies.
  • Secondly, they have a captive breeding lab to conduct research and breeding activities.

Mirza hill is one hillock in the national park which is particularly stunning for its outcrops and granite rock formations. So, rock and prehistoric garden is created here. In addition to this, the area is a favorite relaxation spot for visitors coming to the park.

To add to the glory further, Bannerghatta National Park has a watchtower. The Suvarnamukhi watchtower is situated on the top of a hill. It is on the northwest side of the Suvarnamukhi Forest Guesthouse. The speed of wind at this point is very high. Therefore, electricity generated from wind turbines here is used for the functioning of the park. Visitors can also get a wonderful view of the butterfly park from the watchtower. Likewise, the zoo extension area and herbivore safari region can also be easily viewed from here.

Bannerghatta National Park Udige Bande

Udige Bande is a unique place inside the Bannerghatta National Park Bengaluru. In earlier times, when people died, their family members used to bring the corpse and leave it in this area. Consequently, the scavenger animals who inhabited the area fed on it. This ritual was practiced because the family believed that, by leaving the body as food for these animals, the soul of the deceased person would attain peace.

Furthermore, there is another watchtower in this area of the park. From here, visitors can enjoy the panoramic charm of the park. Towards the northeast of this area, in between Udige Bande and an adjoining hill, a check dam is also constructed. As a result, animals who roam around this area like elephants, sambars, and deer can meet their water requirements from this dam.

Barber's stone Bannerghatta National Park

There is a huge monolithic stone on top of another hillock in the Bengaluru Bannerghatta National Park. Interestingly, this stone resembles the shape of one that a barber used to sharpen his blade in the olden times. Hence, the name. In addition to this, the scenery from this point is breathtaking. So, this place attracts a lot of visitors.

Apart from these, the Bannerghatta National Park also houses an aquarium, a crocodile farm, a children’s park, and a reptile house. Furthermore, there are outdoor activities in the park including bird watching, fishing, trekking, and camping. The Bannerghatta Nature Camp is a surprise. Just on the outskirts of a bustling city like Bangalore with its flyovers and late nights and chaotic traffic lies 25,000 acres of carefully preserved jungle. For children and the child in you, it’s an amazing storybook destination brought to life. Bannerghatta has been used as a rehabilitation facility for tigers and lions rescued from circuses. The biggest of its kind, this facility has opened opportunities for India’s first Lion and Tiger Safari. With enclosures that recreate their natural habitat, seeing a giant cat up close, with just the safety of the jeep separating you and the beast, resonates to a very deep part of you.

Bannerghatta National Park is where you should head out when you’ve had enough of the city and would like to get up close with the wild. It has to be seen to be believed. Just about 25 km away from Bangalore and with a treasure trove of wildlife including  bears, wild elephants, deer, porcupines, bonnet macaques and a vibrant mix of bird species: it awakens you to the fact that there’s more to life than the usual rat race.

To know that nature can live in its own pace, so close to the grind, is humbling and makes us rethink our callous lifestyles. It reminds us to be a little kinder and instills in children a love for the outdoors. A popular corporate destination, the Bannerghatta Wildlife Nature Camp has all the facilities for off-sites, meetings and seminars. The conference hall can accommodate 30 people.

After you’ve met the animals  in their enclosures, you can take a guided nature trek to the herbivore area of the park. One of the Asia’s largest butterfly park is also within the Bannerghatta National Park precincts. After a good trek, there’s nothing like really good food. The Gol Ghar, in typical JLR style serves up a wonderful spread of both non-vegetarian and vegetarian delights. Though local cuisine is a speciality, Continental and Chinese food can be served upon request.

Bannerghatta shares the same climate with Bangalore; only that the green cover that the trees afford makes it more pleasant. Mid-June, July and August, the monsoons turn the trees into lush green canopies while March, April and May are the driest months. With temperatures ranging from 15°C to 28°C.

The charm of a city forest.

ಒಂದು ನಗರ ಅರಣ್ಯದ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯಾಕರ್ಷಣೆ

The temperature drops, birdcall fills the silences, a cool, comforting breeze circles around us, the tents stand quiet, and my mobile network sheds bars rapidly, a sure sign of having left Bangalore far behind for a forest weekend.

Rooted in Nature: A Day at Bannerghatta

Rooted in Nature

I’m rocking gently to and fro, toes barely grazing the ground. The breeze is ruffling through my hair and butterflies are nectaring on the yellow Copper Pod blossoms above me. On the right, a couple of squirrels are holding conference on a tamarind tree. They are wondering at the strange creature lying down on tent number 3’s hammock.
