Bill engvall to retire from stand-up, announces farewell comedy tour ‘here’s your sign, it’s finally time’.

Bill Engvall is signing off. The comedian is set to announced that he is saying goodbye to stand-up, launching the farewell tour “Here’s Your Sign, It’s Finally Time” with shows running into next year.

The comedian/actor/author, who’s also a Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum selling recording artist, is best known for his “Here’s Your Sign” routine. Engvall decided to hang the microphone up after more than 40 years in the business.

“I have been blessed with the greatest career anyone could ask for,” Engvall said. “Making people laugh is a dream job and has fulfilled my life in so many ways. I’m excited to focus on future opportunities in entertainment and spend more time with my family. I’m not going anywhere – just hanging up my hat when it comes to sleeping in the airport and in-room dining.”

To ensure the health and safety of Bill Engvall’s fans, crew, and venue staff members, the November 6th performances (of last year 2020) at Peoples Bank Theatre have been rescheduled for November 5, 2021. Your tickets for the first date are still good!

Most recently, Bill was a contestant on season 17 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and as a fan favorite, he made it to the finals. Earlier this year, Bill lent his voice to the animated comedy series Bounty Hunters, which aired on CMT. He previously starred in, and executive produced, the TBS sitcom The Bill Engvall Show. Bill was part of the enormously successful Blue Collar Comedy concert films, which sold over nine million units and received a Grammy nomination. He also starred on the WB’s hit sketch comedy show Blue Collar TV and in several solo specials for Comedy Central. In 2012 he reunited with Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy on the Them Idiots Whirled Tour, which aired as a special on CMT.

Bill’s first album, Here’s Your Sign, is certified platinum and held the #1 position on the Billboard Comedy Chart for 15 straight weeks. His second album, Dorkfish, also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Comedy Chart, as did his subsequent comedy albums. Bill has written several books, including his 2007 autobiography Bill Engvall –Just A Guy.

A native of Galveston, Texas, Bill moved to Dallas and worked as a disc jockey with plans of becoming a teacher.  While in a nightclub one evening, he tried his hand at stand-up comedy and found that making people laugh was truly his forte.  Soon after, he moved to Los Angeles and went on to star in the Showtime special, A Pair of Joker’s, hosted A&E’s Evening at the Improv and appeared on The Tonight Show and Late Show with David Letterman. In 1992, Bill won the American Comedy Award for “Best Male Stand-up Comedian.” He appeared in several episodes of Designing Women and co-starred in Delta and The Jeff Foxworthy Show. Bill Engvall is a Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum selling recording artist and one of the top comedians in the country. Bill can regularly be seen in a recurring role on the hit FOX sitcom Last Man Standing playing Reverend Paul. The series, starring Tim Allen, is currently in its ninth and final season. He was recently awarded “Casino Comedian” of the year at the 2019 Casino Entertainment Awards in Las Vegas, NV. He is currently on tour and since 2016, Bill has hosted a weekly podcast “My 2 Cents” with PodcastOne which offers his funny, thought-provoking and unique perspective on just about everything. Bill’s latest comedy special “Just Sell Him For Parts” is currently available on VUDU streaming service. In addition to acting and stand-up Bill is also the spokesperson for the insurance company Health Markets.

Bill recently wrapped production on A New Seasonwhere he reprises his role of Coach Z, from Catching Faith in 2015. He also had a role in the thriller, Monster Party, where three teenage thieves infiltrate a mansion dinner party secretly hosted by a serial killer cult for the social elite. Comedian Bill Engvall Returns to Texas for Show at Texan Theater

Alongside Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White, Bill Engvall was part of the enormously successful Blue Collar Comedy Tour concert films, which have sold more than 9 million units and are some of the most watched movies and specials in Comedy Central history.

This Saturday, Comedian Bil Engvall is appearing at the Texan Theater in Greenville, TX, and will entertain audiences at two dinner shows.

At Home in Utah

We spoke to Bill from his home in Park City, Utah, where he and his wife Gail (a native of Midland, Texas) have settled down to be near grandchildren and the mountains. Bill and Gail love animals and volunteer for Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation , a 24 hour/7 day a week facility. He and Gail rescued an owl that they recently released back to the wild. Bill said, “Doing this just makes you feel better about being a human. I have a soft spot for animals, even snakes.”

Growing Up in Texas

Bill Engvall grew up in Georgetown, Texas. He said, “Being from Texas is a great honor. No matter where I am, someone walks up to me and says ‘I’m from Texas too.’ You never hear anyone say I’m from Rhode Island.  Texans have a real pride about them and I’m a glad to be a part of that.” He added, “I hope that somewhere when my name comes up somebody says ‘he’s from Texas you know.’ I want to make ‘em proud and feel at home.”

The Engvall family lived in Richardson where Bill attended Richardson High School and was a lifeguard at a local pool. Bill said, “It was the best job I ever had next to this one [comedy]. I was a lifeguard for 5 years and fell in love with it. Greatest job on the planet.”

When asked, “Were you a funny lifeguard?” Bill replied, “I’m a big fan of kids even when reprimanding them I made it fun. I’d hang out and swim and play games. They’re all grown now, maybe with kids – I hope that somewhere in the recesses of their memory they’re thinking ‘that Bill Engvall made that fun.’”

Bill shared a story about being taught a lesson: “Every Friday after the pool closed we would have guard parties and go to the Gemini Drive In on 75 in Dallas – it’s probably a parking lot now. One Friday my dad let me use his El Camino, I just loved that car. My friend knew of a liquor store that would sell beer to an 8-year-old. So we bought a six pack of Coors beer. Later, I drove home and like an idiot, I left the card board wrapping in the back on the floorboard of the car. It was Dallas in August. My dad never said a word. He just got me up at 7 o’clock the next morning and said you need to mow the yard. Of course these are Texas yards which are huge and we didn’t have have riding lawn mowers. I’m pushing that thing, it’s 95 degrees and 100% humidity and I’m sweating out beer, I’m mowing… I finish mowing and he says that looks good, you better edge it now. We had these little grass scissors, no electric edgers… so finally at about 4 in the afternoon I’m drenched with sweat and hung over, probably finished being hung over because I’d sweat it all out, I finally finished edging and my dad came out and says it looks good. Then he said, ‘Next time don’t leave the container of beer in my car.’ He was very good at getting his point across.”

The Stupid Sign

Engvall started his career in Dallas at The Comedy Corner. The “stupid” bit was originally built around, “I thought stupid people should be slapped. One day my wife said, ‘You know, you just don’t look like the kind of guy that walks around slapping people . ‘ Later, while working in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at a comedy club, I came up with the idea of a sign that said I’m Stupid . It got really popular really fast, to the point I used to sell signs after the show that said I’m Stupid . I’d sell them for a $1 a piece or 2 for $5.”

Bill stated, “Young comedians ask how to get a good hook phrase, like: Get er done — Here’s your sign — or You might be a redneck. I tell them you don’t really choose a line, the audience determines what they get hooked into. I’m glad they did, I don’t know where I’d be without ‘Here’s your sign.’ That was the bit that got me known and the blue collar thing just put it over the top.”

The Blue Collar Network was the perfect storm – Four guys at the top of our game. It hit an audience that related to people in the middle – not an east coast or west coast thing. Bill said, “If you didn’t know me I could be your next door neighbor. I’m glad I didn’t create a character. The guy you see at the Texan Theater is the same guy you’d see at grocery store. My comedy is clean, no politics or religion. My job is to make you feel better when you leave then we you got there.”

For the first time in 40+ years, Bill’s show will reflect “the life of comedian through the eyes of my wife. She puts up with so much. It takes a special woman to be married to a comedian. Your life is kind of just out there.”

Bill shared that he is looking forward to the shows at the Texan Theater, and that the smaller intimate theaters are his favorite places to connect with his fans. He stated, “it’s like being in a living room with friends and telling stories. With my style of humor it plays better in setting where audience can be a part of the story.”

Bill Engvall is a comedian and actor from Galveston, Texas. He is best known for his work as a stand-up comedian and for his role on the television show "Blue Collar TV." Engvall began his career in comedy in the 1980s, performing stand-up comedy at clubs and colleges across the United States. In the 1990s, he gained national recognition as a member of the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour," which featured fellow comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy, and Ron White. The tour was hugely popular and led to the creation of the television show "Blue Collar TV," which aired on the WB network from 2004 to 2006.

On May 5, Kevin Hart will host the ‘Roast of Tom Brady’ at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum as part of the Netflix is a Joke Festival.

However, that’s far from the only gig the 2024 Mark Twain Prize For American Humor winner has lined up this year.

From April all the way up until December, the prolific 44-year-old comic will perform at venues all over North America as part of his ‘Acting My Age Tour.’

That includes a pair of shows at Westbury, NY’s Westbury Music Fair on June 29 as well as one-offs at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on June 30 and Poughkeepsie, NY’s MJ Nesheiwat Convention Center on July 20.

“This one is going to hit different,” Hart shared on Instagram , while describing the tour. “We’re on a different level, a different mindset.”

If you want to see what the “Ride Along” star has up his sleeve for his ‘Acting My Age Tour,’ tickets are available for all shows.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find was $16 before fees on Vivid Seats.

To be fair, that low dollar amount is a bit of an outlier (hint, hint- it’s for the Tom Brady Roast); other Kevin Hart shows have tickets starting anywhere from $55 to $389 before fees.

Netflix is a Joke Festival 2024

From May 2-12, 2024, the  Netflix is a Joke Festival  is returning to Los Angeles for over 300 (!) shows spread out across 35 venues.

And yes, one of your favorite comedians will probably be there.

Just a few of the mega names on this year’s lineup include  Jerry Seinfeld ,  Chris Rock ,  Bill Burr ,  David Letterman  and controversial crowd work wunderkind  Matt Rife .

They’ll be joined by household names  John Mulaney ,  Jon Stewart ,  Ali Wong ,  Seth Rogen  and  Sarah Silverman .

As of now, over 270 events have been announced for the  sprawling, mega event , the first since 2022.

Upcoming Kevin Hart projects

Kevin Hart can’t stop working.

On top of his upcoming tour dates, he also has eight (!) movies and TV shows set for release in the near future.

Here’s what we know about each of the future flicks.

“Planes, Trains & Automobiles”  might sound familiar. In this reimagining of the 1987 classic, Hart co-stars with Will Smith as “a pair of unlikely travel companions trying to make their destinations in time for the Holiday weekend.”

“My Own Worst Enemy”  tells the story of an agent sent on a dangerous assignment and then receives an assist from an unlikely informant. Tim Story has been tapped to direct.

“The Great Outdoors”  will see Hart star in a remake of the 1988 John Candy-Dan Aykroyd comedy where a family on vacation repeatedly gets interrupted by their irritating in-laws. Teena Lewis and Tristan Cantave are set to co-star.

“Ride Along 3”  is an extension of the popular Hart-Ice Cube franchise featuring Hart as a well-meaning high school teacher who applies to the police academy to impress the girl of his dreams (Tika Sumpter). There, he meets her tough brother (Ice Cube), who, you guessed it, takes him on a ride along to set him straight. According to  Looper , director Tim Story wants to take the ongoing series to another country in a future installment.

“Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist”  has just Hart attached now; the series will tell the story of the infamous armed robbery after Muhammad Ali’s historical comeback fight in 1970.

“Borderlands,”  based on the popular video game, takes place on the desolate, fictional planet Pandora. In this abandoned world, adventurers seek out an elusive artifact. The stacked cast features Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Gina Gershon and Bobby Lee.

“Uptown Saturday Night”  centers around a pair of pal’s night out where they chill at an illegal club, come upon a lost wallet and find a winning lottery ticket. Based on the 1974 classic featuring Sidney Poitier, Flip Wilson, Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby and Harry Belafonte. Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope,” “The Chi”) will direct from a script by Kenya Barris (“Blackish,” “Coming 2 America”).

“Monopoly,”  currently in development, finds a boy from the board game’s Baltic Avenue on a journey to make some cold, hard Monopoly cash. Tim Story will direct Hart again in a script by noted sci-fi screenwriter Andrew Niccol (“Truman Show,” “Gattaca”). Here’s hoping the movie, which has yet to enter pre-production, “gets out of jail free.”

“Die Hart 2: Die Harter” signals a return to Hart’s Amazon Prime series where he “plans an innovative action film with unscripted, unexpected scenes to cement his legacy as the greatest,” IMDb reports. Of course, high-stakes hijinks ensue. Nathalie Emmanuel, Ben Schwartz, Paula Pell and John Cena co-star.
