BILLY IDOL Announces Revised Tour Dates in October for The Roadside Tour 2022
The world’s favourite rebel Billy Idol has rescheduled The Roadside Tour 2022 with new dates now set for October 2022. All existing tickets are still valid for the revised dates.
Says Billy Idol: “As many of you know, this year has dealt me some health challenges which are nearly, but not quite resolved. While my recovery is almost complete, I have been given doctor’s orders to stay off the road until August – and so it is with great frustration that we must reschedule the UK Tour for October of this year. Thank you for everyone’s understanding and support. These shows will be worth the wait!”
Billy will come to the UK with new music and a stack of timeless classics. For his first appearances in the UK since 2018, Billy will play 6 Arena shows with the rescheduled dates listed below.
Supporting Billy Idol, and replacing The Go-Go’s on the original dates, are very special guests Television, including original frontman Tom Verlaine.
Says Billy Idol: “Sadly, The Go-Go’s are no longer able to join us. I am thrilled to share that now opening all UK shows will be Television, one of my favourite bands from the original New York punk scene and an inspiration to me throughout my career. I will be honoured to share the stage with them and hope everyone will come early to enjoy their set!”
The global lockdown of 2020 gave Billy time to reflect, and thoughts turned to his near-fatal motorcycle accident of 1990, how he dealt with it and how it related to the current crisis. “It seemed quite logical and natural to write something about my motorcycle accident,” he says. “I may have been saying, well, this is what people go through when they are in trouble. I think I was unconsciously making that connection.
“Certainly, the motorcycle accident was the catharsis, the wake-up moment. A little bit of me got left by the side of that road. Maybe I left behind the irreverent, youthful Billy and opened the door for a more attentive father and more sensitive musician. Something did get left by the roadside, but it was not necessarily a bad thing in the end.”
Billy’s reflections are captured in the lyrics of Bitter Taste, one of four tracks on his 2021 EP The Roadside, which was his first new music for seven years and as hard-hitting and relevant as ever.
Billy’s touring band features his long-time guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens along with Stephen McGrath (bass, backing vocals), Billy Morrison (guitar, backing vocals), Paul Trudeau (keyboards, backing vocals) and drummer Erik Eldenius.

For forty-five years, Billy Idol has been one of the faces and voices of rock’n’roll, with an artistic resume to match the brilliant light of the image. First as the camera-ready frontman for Generation X, between 1977 and 1981, Idol emerged with three albums that made positivity, emotional depth, and high pop synonymous with punk rock. In 1982, Idol embarked on a remarkable transatlantic/trans-genre solo career that integrated clubland throb, wide-screen depth and drama, rockabilly desperation, the bold and simple lines of punk, and rock’n’roll decadence.
Embracing the new MTV music channel, videos for White Wedding, Rebel Yell and Eyes Without A Face established Idol as one of the iconic performers of his generation, a position he still holds today.

Journey Plots 2022 Arena Tour Supported By Billy Idol, Toto
- Eric Renner Brown
- 7:19 am, Monday, 11/15/2021
Journey announced a 2022 arena tour on Monday that will take the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band to 40 cities across the U.S. and Canada from February to May.
“Freedom Tour 2022” begins at Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena on February 22 and concludes at XL Center in Hartford, Conn., on May 11.
While the run starts and ends in the northeast, its routing traverses the continent, with stops including Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum (March 12), Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena (March 28), Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center (April 5), Denver’s Ball Arena (April 11) and Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena (April 27).
Billy Idol will support the first portion of the tour, performing at dates through the April 5 L.A. gig, and Toto will assume opening duties for the second chunk of dates, beginning at San Diego’s Pechanga Arena on April 7.
AEG Presents will promote the tour, which goes onsale to the general public on Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. local time, except the Pittsburgh date, which becomes available that same day at 9 a.m. ET.
“It’s that time – time to get back to where we are used to being – on stage!” said Journey’s Neal Schon in a statement. “We are looking forward to shifting into high gear and bringing you the best show possible. The band is running on all 12 cylinders and very excited! Please come and join us once again for an evening full of rocking stage connection fun. See you soon friends.”
Journey, which was inducted into the Rock Hall in 2017, remains a strong live draw. Earlier this year, the band headlined Chicago’s Lollapalooza and performed at “We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert” in New York’s Central Park. The band’s nine-show October 2019 residency at Las Vegas’ The Colosseum at Caesars Palace grossed $5.7 million, while a four-show New Years run at the same venue in late December grossed $2.5 million.
In 2018, the group ranked No. 12 on Pollstar ‘s year-end worldwide touring chart, by way of its co-headlining trek with Def Leppard, which grossed $97.8 million.
The placement capped a robust touring decade for Journey, which appeared on Pollstar ‘s year-end worldwide chart seven times during the period, with three co-headlining showings (on top of Def Leppard, outings with Steve Miller Band and Doobie Brothers in 2014 and 2016, respectively) and four solo ones (2011, 2012, 2013, 2017).
The band also played at 2017’s Classic West and Classic East stadium events, which grossed a combined $33.1 million with a lineup that also featured Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Billy Idol reschedules UK tour as he recovers from MRSA infection
He's resting on doctor's orders
Billy Idol has rescheduled his June UK arena tour for October 2022 on doctor’s orders.
The ‘White Wedding’ singer revealed in March that he had been diagnosed with MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) in his sinuses several months earlier.
MRSA is type of superbug caused by a type of staph bacteria that's resistant to antibiotics making it much harder to treat.
Having previously cancelled a clutch of North American shows in the spring, Billy Idol has now pushed back the UK leg of The Roadside Tour 2022 by four months to allow himself time to make a full recovery.
The new special guests on the October 2022 trek are New York art-rockers Television, who replace The Go-Go’s. Tickets are on sale from Planet Rock Tickets now.
66-year-old Idol said: “As many of you know, this year has dealt me some health challenges which are nearly, but not quite resolved.
“While my recovery is almost complete, I have been given doctor’s orders to stay off the road until August - and so it is with great frustration that we must reschedule the UK Tour for October of this year.
“Thank you for everyone’s understanding and support. These shows will be worth the wait!”
He adds: “Sadly, The Go-Go’s are no longer able to join us. I am thrilled to share that now opening all UK shows will be Television, one of my favourite bands from the original New York punk scene and an inspiration to me throughout my career.
“I will be honoured to share the stage with them and hope everyone will come early to enjoy their set!”
The October tour will see Idol perform new music alongside classics from his musical arsenal, and he’ll be joined by long-time lead guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens at all shows.
The trek is named after Billy Idol’s four-song collection, ‘The Roadside EP’, which came out in September 2021 and was his first release in seven years.
Alongside Billy Idol and Steve Stevens, Billy’s band on the UK tour includes Stephen McGrath (bass, backing vocals), Billy Morrison (guitar, backing vocals), Paul Trudeau (keyboards, backing vocals) and drummer Erik Eldenius.

DANCING WITH MYSELF
The new york times bestselling autobiography.
Some thirty-three years later, I come to you again, with a story to tell. You know me as Billy Idol, the hell-raising rebel who’s lived life to the full—sometimes fuller than life would allow. But I am also William Albert Michael Broad, a working-class kid from the suburbs of London: a dreamer with his nose forever in a book, cursed with feeling too much, dreaming too big, and suffering slights too deeply. Life gave me a golden key when I fell in love with rock ’n’ roll (thanks to the music in my Irish mum’s blood), and a whole new world opened up to me. With this world came every opportunity, and every temptation under the sun; around-the-clock excess.
I am hopelessly divided between the dark and the good, the rebel and the saint, the sex maniac and the monk, the poet and the priest, the demagogue and the populist. Pen to paper, I am putting it all down, every bit from the heart. I am going out on a limb here, so watch my back. — Billy Idol
