Cam Ranh, Vietnam
Paradise in a bay, Cam Ranh is ready to steal crowns as it skyrockets towards becoming South Vietnam’s top resort destination. With 5-star resorts, fine dining, exceptional beaches, and a relaxing atmosphere – Cam Ranh has it all. The only thing that is noticeably missing is the crowds.
As a recently opened destination, tourism is still blossoming in Cam Ranh. Beaches and resorts are frequently uncrowded, so visitors can enjoy a luxury getaway in private. However, news spreads fast and tourism is likely to soon explode in Cam Ranh. For trailblazing travelers, there is no better time to explore Cam Rah because, in the coming years, uncrowded beaches will be a thing of the past.
Beautiful Bay in Khanh Hoa Province
Located in Khanh Hoa Province , the city of Cam Ranh is structured around a natural bay in South Vietnam’s Central Coast region. Cam Ranh is the second-largest city in the province, and it has worked diligently to revamp its image to become a luxury resort destination. Situated on a peninsula, Cam Ranh Bay is technically an inlet on the South China Sea.
The oceanfront location has helped Cam Ranh establish port trading, fishing, and tourism-based economies, all of which support the local people and their families.
From Ho Chi Minh City, Cam Ranh is 242.3 miles (390 kilometers) to the east. Driving between the two southern cities takes about 7 and ½ hours. In an effort to boost tourism, Cam Ranh City built a new international airport. Flights from HCMC are easy to book and the time spent in the air is less than 1 hour.
Trains are another affordable option for travelers and they can be a little faster than driving. Most train journeys to Cam Ranh from Saigon will take less than 7 hours.
Geographically, Cam Ranh sites on a narrow portion of Vietnam’s continental shelf. This allows deep water to come closer to shore, which in turn gives large ships easy access to the sheltered port. Recognized as Southeast Asia’s “finest deep-water shelter”, Cam Ranh’s geological features have attracted ships, both trading merchants and military, for many years.
Before the resorts, Cam Ranh City had been a significant base for many foreign militaries. French colonizers first used the bay for their navy as they spread throughout Indochina. By the early 1900s, the Russians began to use Cam Ranh Bay for their Imperial fleet.
The Japanese set their sights on the bay in the 1940s during World War II, however, they would ultimately be defeated by the Americans and the bay would be abandoned. The last military operations to use Cam Ranh as a base were from the United States. Starting with the Air Force, the US Army and Navy were eventually stationed in the bay during the Vietnam War.
The bay was a tactical fighter base for the American military. In 1972, after the end of the Vietnam War, all facilities in Cam Ranh Bay were given to the South Vietnam government to control. Today, Cam Ranh acts as an international military base where foreign warships can dock for repairs.
With militaries withdrawing, Cam Ranh City decided to makeover its image to become an international resort destination. Now, the deep-water bay is lined with manicured resorts, glimmering pools, and wide-open sand beaches. A stunning destination, travelers will feel their stress melt away as they enjoy their time in Cam Ranh.
- Cam Ranh has an estimated population of 121,050 people
- Cam Ranh’s airport ( Cam Ranh International ) is the 4 th busiest in Vietnam
- Lobster farming is a lucrative business in Cam Ranh with some local families earning billions of dollars
Main Attractions
Aside from the gorgeous setting, Cam Ranh is a one-of-a-kind destination because of its eclectic mix of attractions and activities. The resort atmosphere of Cam Ranh focuses on rest and relaxation, while other venues allow visitors to chase their thrills. With plenty of attractions open both day and night, Cam Ranh ensures that guests are entertained.
On top of the humanmade activities, it is impossible to overlook the peninsula’s beaches. So, whether you’re lounging at a resort, seeking epic thrills, or socializing in a club, Cam Ranh has something to satisfy every traveler.
Resort Highlights
Every resort is different, yet with so many 5-star options, it’ss safe to assume that every resort aims to provide luxury services to their guests. Grandiose swimming pools, 18-hole golf courses, and premium quality spas are frequently the most used attractions at resorts. For guests of the resort, many of these facilities are included with their stay.
The resort should be clear to communicate to their guests about any additional charges. Guests from off the resort may pay to access the resort’s features too by asking the front desk about a day pass or appointment. Resorts with top-rated spas include the Anam, Fusion Resort Cam Ranh , and the Radisson Blue Resort Cam Ranh.
For golfers, the KN Golf Links is an upscale club that was designed by world golfing legend, Greg Norman. The golf club boasts an 18-hole course with 3 miles (5 kilometers) of the property sitting on the oceanfront. Golfers will need to reserve their golf time prior to their arrival at the club. Reservations can be made online through the club’s website or by phone.`
Sand, Sun, and Surf
Cam Ranh’s extensive coast is lined with some of the best beaches in Southern Vietnam. Adding to the uniqueness of Cam Ranh, beaches in the bay are both manicured and wild. This means that visitors can relax on a resort’s private beach or head down the coast to find, often deserted, public beaches.
Guests staying at resorts should have access to the property’s private beach. Perks to visiting a resort’s beach include clean sand and permission to use additional amenities like lounges or umbrellas. Visitors in Cam Ranh who are staying at a different resort or those who want to explore more of the area’s private beaches can pay a resort for day access to their property.
Day rates differ between resorts, although most have reasonable prices. Public beaches, which have not been fenced off, are an option for visitors who do not want to pay. Northern Cam Ranh has a few public beaches that are clean and often uncrowded – if not entirely empty.
Another great spot to go beach hopping is on a new road, which branches off from the main road before the Vinh Hy-Binh Tien pass. Stretching for 10.5 miles (17 km) along the coast, many of the beaches are public and are walkable from the road. There should be a worn path to indicate where to go.
Adventure Parks in Cam Ranh
For bigger thrills, cam Ranh has a Rope Park. The park features 45 obstacles of varying difficulty and it is suspended 35 feet into the air. Officially a part of the Mövenpick Resort Cam Ranh, non-resort guests can pay for access to the Rope Park. Participants of the course are encouraged to be fit and healthy because of the height challenges presented in the obstacles.
At the Golden Peak Resort, there is an indoor and outdoor water park. Designed to be safe for all ages, the Golden Peak Resort Water Park is a hotspot for families with young kids. Highlights in the park include the Hawaii Aqua Playground, Boomerang Slide, 9D Cinema, and Food Center.
Tour the Peninsula
Much more than resorts and adventure parks, Cam Ranh is located in a spectacular area of South Vietnam. Visitors are encouraged to go beyond their accommodations and explore the area. Local guides are the most knowledgeable and they can take visitors on a boat, surfing, paragliding, snorkeling, or kayaking tour.
Tours that venture around and outside of Cam Ranh can also be arranged. In Cam Ranh, the Tu Van Pagoda has become a sightseeing hotspot. Constructed out of seashells and coral, the pagoda is quite the sight to behold. Visitors can explore the grounds of the pagoda, including its caves, and interact with the local monks.
Out in the bay, Binh Hung and Binh Ba Island are beautiful day trip destinations. Accessible by boat and only a short distance away from Cam Ranh, the islands are famous for their beauty. Most travelers will visit both islands in one day, though you could easily spend a full day on each. For beaches, Binh Ba is the better choice, but Binh Hung offers plenty too.
Seafood is abundant on both islands with same-day catches highlighted on the menu.
Further outside of Cam Ranh, visitors may choose to take day trips north to Nha Trang or south to Phan Rang-Tháp Chàm. Both locations are cities along the coast with their own bays. Nha Trang is an extremely popular resort area that frequently draws in large groups of tourists. Phan Rang-Tháp Chàm has become a major tourist destination because of its historical pagodas and Cham culture.
Accommodation
Resorts have become the powerhouses of Cam Ranh with their all-inclusive packages, luxury features, and beachfront locations. With dozens of options, there are only a handful of resorts that consistently rate amongst the top tiers. Be that as it may, not all travelers are attracted to the resort lifestyle. For those who want to avoid the resorts, Cam Ranh has plenty of hotels too.

Peony Hotel – Away from the beach and in town, the Peony Hotel is the perfect hotel for budget travelers. Air-conditioned rooms, free Wi-Fi, private parking, and friendly staff are amongst the hotel’s premiere offerings. Rooms have private bathrooms and include a flat-screen TV with a desk.
The in-town location also gives guests the chance to explore more of Cam Ranh’s culture and cuisine.
Thai Binh Cam Ranh Hotel – Located 1.1 miles (1.9 kilometers) away from the center of town, the Thai Binh Cam Ranh Hotel is small in size and big in character. Landscaped with a sun terrace, balconies, garden, and swimming pool, the hotel has a reputation as being a beloved landmark of the city.
Once travelers have stayed here, they frequently choose to return because of the friendly service and excellent location.
As Cam Ranh’s popularity grows, the city is becoming a beacon for local and international cuisine. Resorts often have at least one if not multiple restaurants on-site for their guests, so travelers won’t have to go far to find a high-quality meal. Resort guests are less likely to travel off-site for food, but for those who do, the city is host to a myriad of restaurants too.
Blu Lobster – A part of the Radisson Blu Resort Cam Ranh, the Blu Lobster restaurant is the resort’s signature restaurant. Nestled on the beach, the restaurant is famous for its locally sourced seafood and rotating menu. While the restaurant caters to resort guests, anyone is welcome to walk in or make a reservation for lunch or dinner.
Also included on the menu are premium cuts of meat, traditional noodles, and Asian-inspired beverages.
Hai San Kim Van – Affordable dishes exploding with flavor, the Hai San Kim Van is an excellent choice for budget travelers. Similar to many of the restaurants in Cam Ranh, seafood is the staple ingredient of many dishes. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is a favorite amongst locals.
The Floating Lounge Cam Ranh – Situated high in the sky, the Floating Lounge Cam Ranh is a top-rated restaurant and bar with incredible views of the bay and city. Serving Vietnamese dishes featuring fresh seafood, the restaurant has become the talk of the town.
Visitors from far and wide eagerly place their reservations, day and night, to ensure that they don’t miss out on this Cam Ranh experience.
Special Events
Perhaps some of the only times that Cam Ranh truly feels busy is during festivals. While most of the year the peninsula is a quiet haven, festivals are a time when the streets come to life in celebration. Cam Ranh is host to many festivals with local and national events.
Celebrate Têt Trung Thu – In Vietnam, Têt Trung Thu or the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival is held during the 8 th month of the lunar calendar, which typically is during mid-September. A celebration of the full harvest, the Tet Trung Thu is a time for friends and families to come together to share meals and partake in festivities. The ever-popular mooncakes are a staple for the festival.
Ocean Power – One event that happens every two years is the Sea Festival. Also called the Whale Festival, the celebration stretches along the coast starting in Nha Trang. Cam Ranh partakes in this festival with special markets, exhibitions, and tournaments. The festival is normally held during the month of June.
Since this is not an annual festival, it is considered to be a great honor for outside visitors to join in on the celebration.
Spread out along the bay, perhaps the only downside to Cam Ranh is the distance between attractions. While tourists can easily walk to areas like the beach or in town, it is recommended to arrange your transportation if you plan on traveling between the resorts, town, and sightseeing hotspots.
Taxis are common in Cam Ranh, but most guests prefer to arrange transportation with the help of their accommodation.
Resorts may provide free transportation to their guests, while smaller hotels will be happy to arrange for a taxi. Bicycle rentals are also common. Guests should inquire at the front desk of their accommodation, as hotels and resorts may provide affordable or free access to bicycles for their guests.
Unlike most of the country, Cam Ranh and the surrounding province have a long-lasting dry season and relatively less rain. From February to September, the months are dry and hot. Rain begins in October and lasts until January, though most storms are nothing more than an afternoon downpour.
The biggest downside to the rainy season is that the typically clear ocean will turn murky. The busiest times of the year for tourists are during the summer months and winter holidays.
With the potential to become South Vietnam’s number one tourist destination, Cam Ranh is on the cusp of a major breakthrough. International recognition is growing, and Cam Ranh is fully in the spotlight. Spoiling its guests with silken beaches, wondrous activities, and outstanding accommodations, this tropical destination needs to be at the top of your bucket list.
Tranquil and mostly vacant now, booking a stay won’t be so easy in the future as Cam Ranh’s waitlist begins to grow.

Cam ranh, vietnam – things to do & complete guides.
Cam Ranh Bay tourism is still new and remains many interesting things for visitors in Vietnam vacation to explore. Coming to Cam Ranh, you can immerse yourself in the poetic natural scenery with the wild landscapes.
Best Things to Do & See in Cam Ranh, Vietnam
Bai dai beach.
Although only 20 km far from Nha Trang city center and about 12 km from the airport, Bai Dai has a pure natural space. In addition to the road from the airport to the spacious city center, which is paved and planted with flowers, this area has nothing called modern. On this 10-kilometer beach, there are only blue sea and white sand. Along the coast are high white sand dunes. Rarely does it have such white sandhills?
The beach here is smooth, clean and especially not much impact of human hands. The sea here is quite shallow, so it is very safe for visitors including those who cannot swim. The feeling of swimming here is also different from swimming in Nha Trang beaches because you will not be affected by the noise of the engine on the street, the water motor and the guests walking on the beach…
Sealife Amusement Park
The Sealife amusement park has a total area of 5,000m² of water in Cam Hai Dong commune, Cam Lam district, Khanh Hoa province, located in the beautiful sea with fine sandy beaches at Bai Dai. Coming to this amusement park, you will be surprised with the largest floating park in Vietnam, up to 2000m² wide with many new experiences.
Here, you will experience sea sports services such as parachute flying, jet skiing, water skiing. In addition, you can go scuba diving to watch corals, go banana buoys on the sea, watch marine fishes on basket boat … Sealife has become a familiar destination for many young people who love thrilling games at sea.
Although officially put into operation not too long but the sea amusement park Sealife is really a new entertainment destination, attracting many young people love to experience at Cam Ranh beach. Coming to Sealife, you can enjoy relaxing moments watching the long sandy beaches, taking a dip in the cool blue sea or tasting the fresh seafood in the beachside huts.
Tu Van Pagoda
Tu Van is a pagoda built in 1968 on 3/4 road, Cam Ranh City. Due to the reason that the temple is built mainly from snail shells and corals, the temple is also known by the name of Oc Pagoda (Snail Pagoda) or San Ho pagoda (Coral Pagoda). Thanks to its unique architecture, the pagoda has become an attractive attraction. The most impressive thing is that the 39-meter Bao Tich tower is recognized as the highest blessing tower in Vietnam. The tower has an elaborate structure with 49 pyramidal pyramids on the outside, each of which has a statue of a thousand hands and a thousand eyes; At the top of each pyramid, there is a small stupa. Therefore, hundreds of large and small Buddha statues are meticulously arranged on this tower.
In addition to the tower, the journey down to “18 floors of hell” is a very interesting experience at Tu Van Pagoda. The road down to “hell” is only about 500 meters long but is still marvelously built from coral stones, snail shells, outside covered with eye-catching dragon shapes. Penetrating deep underground, the path here is dark, narrow and tortuous. Along the path are 12 plots that record the crime of the world and the punishment at the prison, like the advice for people to live good and be kind. Sometimes you will be startled because of the scene of “creepy torture” hidden in the flickering light.
Hon Ba Natural Reserve
Hon Ba is a mountain located between Khanh Phu commune, Khanh Vinh district, and Suoi Cat commune, Cam Lam district, quite close to Cam Ranh. Hon Ba is 1578m high compared to the sea, the road from the foot of the mountain to the peak is winding, looking from a distance like a snake wrapped around the summit, the average slope here is 8 degrees, so it is quite easy to run to the top of the mountain.
At a higher altitude than Dalat, the temperature in Hon Ba ranges from 10-20 degrees Celsius and is cloudy all year round. The way to Hon Ba is said to go through a primeval forest but now there are only a few old trees, the rest are low-grade trees. More than 8 years ago, Hon Ba was opened by Khanh Hoa province and Yasaka Nha Trang hotel invested to develop tourism but up to now, Hon Ba is almost just a destination for people to visit the place where Dr. Yersin once lived and worked.
Foods in Cam Ranh Bay
Can cake cam ranh.
The first specialty in Cam Ranh that we cannot miss when coming here is Can cake. What is more interesting than eating a crunchy hot cake filled with a bowl of sour-tasting broth in the cool atmosphere of the coastal city.
Can cake Cam Ranh is made from rice flour and onion oil, accompanied with shrimp, squid, quail eggs or minced meat,… However the cake is delicious or not, besides depending on the ingredients of the cake, it depends on the bowl of sauce. Sauce for Can cake is usually divided into 2 types: sweet sauce and seasoning sauce served with kohlrabi cut into small pieces, green mango, and a little spicy hot pepper.
Mango Rice Paper
In addition to lobster farming, Cam Ranh land is also famous for the immense mango gardens. You can find mango rice paper in many provinces in Vietnam, but mango rice paper at Cam Ranh is very delicious and special. Enjoying mango rice paper does not need to be too sophisticated and complicated. You can eat directly to feel the sweet taste mixed with sour, fragrant, subtle in the nose.
Fine Rice Vermicelli with Pig’s Tripes
In Cam Ranh, the fine rice vermicelli with pig’s tripes is used for breakfast, this dish is so popular that even going to any big or small market, they all sell this dish. When eating, the cake is spread with chopped onions or shredded chives, sprinkled with a little onion, depending on the preferences of each person. The piece of white rice vermicelli cake is chewy and has a fragrant smell of rice and onion.
The cake is served with pig’s tripes and sauce mixed with chili, garlic and a few drops of lemon juice. The pig’s tripes plate is served with fine rice vermicelli that has enough heart, liver, kidney, and bacon.
Quang Noodle
Quang noodle in Cam Ranh is skillfully processed, the noodles are very soft but do not create a feeling of being dull and the sauce cooked with bone should have a sweet and charming taste. A full bowl of noodles includes chicken, pork, shrimp, salads, peanuts, and rice paper. You just need to mix them up and enjoy your delicious breakfast.
Pointed-Chicken
In recent years, pointed-chicken emerged as a new type of Cam Ranh’s cuisine. The reason for the name “pointed-chicken” (also called chicken buffet) is when visitors come to the restaurant there will be the right to point to choose the chicken they want, the restaurant will process according to each guest. Normally, soft meat hens will be processed in ways such as boiling, steaming; Heavy bone roosters are often used for baking. Chicken can be processed into various dishes such as steamed, boiled, grilled, cooked with giang leaves, cooked to porridge, fried with fish sauce or squeezed in the salad,…
An interesting feature in pointed-chicken restaurants is the style of decoration and eating extremely rustic. In the meantime, visitors can lie back in the hammock, in the middle of the green and fresh garden, then grill your own chicken on the dining table with family and friends.
Squid Pancake
Squid pancake is one of the famous specialties of Cam Ranh, locals often sell this dish in the evening. If in other provinces, before putting in cakes, squid is often marinated with spices, at Cam Ranh, the squid will only be washed, sliced, then put into a cake mold that has been coated with thin powder. When eating, each squid is still fresh, crispy, sweet and full of sea taste.

Cam Ranh and Nha Trang 3-Day Itinerary (Complete DIY Guide)
If you have 3 days to spare away from Saigon, the South-Central coast of Cam Ranh and Nha Trang would probably be the best option for a beach getaway; it is best in terms of pristine beaches unspoiled by tourism, hidden waterfalls and amazing scenic motorbike routes. I had the chance to explore this spectacular p part of Vietnam on a 3-day chilled itinerary, spending as little as 1 Million VND (45 USD)
Getting To Cam Ranh
Cam Ranh and Nha Trang are only 1-2 hours away and share the same airport at Cam Ranh International Airport. A cheaper alternative to flying though is taking the sleeper bus at night and arrive there by morning.
Real Quezon River Rafting Is Now Open! Are you and your friends vaccinated? You can now try River Rafting in Real Quezon! Dec-Feb is the perfect time to visit because of the rapids! We are now offering again Joiner and Private tours. Message us to inquire. Posted by The WanderWalkers on Friday, November 19, 2021
I took the Gia Phuc bus, the cheaper but slower option since Phuong Trang’s only night departure (8pm) to Cam Ranh was already fully booked. My friend who lives near Gia Phuc station booked for me, but you can book Gia Phuc bus for 165K VND online here . The bus left the station (258 Le Hong Phong – P.4 – Quan 5 – Ho Chi Minh) on time at 8:15 pm. The ride was comfortable and a little slower, which caused me to sleep better. It arrived to Cam Ranh City at 5am. That was a total of 9 hours in the bus!
Phuong Trang also has an 8pm sleeper bus to Cam Ranh for 185K VND with an online booking option here . I figured out that this bus is more popular and gets fully booked fast. I took Phuong Trang going back to Saigon from Nha Trang and arrived in less than 9 hours because it was going faster.
Moving Around Cam Ranh
Once in Cam Ranh, the best thing to do first is to rent a motorbike. I got mine for 100k VND for a day because my friend haggled. I think the original price is at 150K, but they will whether send the bike to where you are, or pick you up and bring you to their place for you to see where you will be returning it. Also, after you return the bike to their address, they will send you to where you need to be. Assuming that you’re returning the bike after your 2-day exploration of Cam Ranh, I suggest you ask them to send you to the bus station for your ride to Cam Ranh.
Day 1 AM: Bãi Dài Nha Trang
After arriving in Lan’s place, we head out for an amazing Bun Rieu breakfast (25K VND), a cheap but deliciously refreshing Mangosteen smoothie (less than 25K VND). Then we headed to Bãi Dài, a wavy beach on the way to Nha Trang (around 45 mins from Cam Ranh town proper).
Unlike in Mui Ne where all beachfronts are privately owned by resorts, in Nha Trang and Cam Ranh, beaches are government-owned; therefore, anybody can enjoy his own spot without paying an entrance fee. While it’s an amazing beach mostly enjoyed by the locals, it’s not as crowded as other good beaches in Vietnam; I’m talking about Vung Tau, Nha Trang and Mui Ne. There are plenty of shades to hide from the scorching sun (for Asians like me, lol) and local vendors selling amazingly fresh seafood! The waves could also be harsh, so you should only swim if you’re experienced. I think this is also an amazing spot for surfing; there were a couple of white people surfing while we were there.
Day 1 PM: Beach Camping at Cam Lap Peninsula
In the afternoon, I went on my own to camp in one of the beaches in Cam Lap, a short ride from Cam Ranh town. Prior to coming there, I’ve read a lot first from my favorite Vietnam independent traveler site, VietnamCoracle . I enjoyed the scenic route that leads to its beaches.
Since I have my own sleeping bag with me, I decided to camp in Dao Hoa Vang resort which charges only 50K VND for camping if you have your own tent. You can also rent a bed in their dorm for 120VND. It has a chillax beach environment and the beach restaurant offer seafood for a cheap price!!! The receptionist was also friendly and could speak English well, so communication was not a problem. I went there during a holiday so there were more locals than the resort usually host. There were also a bunch of foreign backpackers staying there. Hammocks are abundant, just protect yourself from mosquitoes. The beachfront of the resort also has an amazing view of the sunrise, so make sure you’re awake to catch it.
Day 2: Nui Chua Park Coastal Loop and Waterfalls
After eating my seafood breakfast from the restaurant, without taking a shower because of the anticipation of a refreshing waterfalls ahead, I left the resort to drive south to the Nui Chua Coastal Road and made a loop back north to Cam Ranh town. The sun was extremely hot during my trip; I couldn’t be more grateful for having sunblock and sunglasses! What rewarded me were amazing spots along the coastal road. Empty beaches, blue waters and mountainous plateaus.
The Hidden Waterfalls
First stop was the refreshing waterfalls (suối Nước Ngọt ) marked by a trail to the right prior to hitting a bridge. I parked my motorbike off the road, walked for less than 5 minutes and ventured through the rocks to find a twin waterfalls intertwined with big rocks. I easily spent 2 hours here. There was a couple having a pre-nup photoshoot with the theme of Adam and Eve; what a creative idea! The waterfalls is not managed by any local, and there were also no locals residing around the area. It’s entirely beautiful and free!
After a satisfying nature shower, I continued driving down south to Vĩnh Hải where I found an amazing beach, probably the most beautiful and bluest one I have seen in Vietnam so far (I haven’t been to Con Dao nor Phu Quoc yet, save the best for last). I stayed there to have another seafood lunch, took some pictures and moved ahead. There are also a floating restaurants which you can reach by boats easily available at the beach.
Heading down to the bottom tip of the Nui Chua National Park (the area marked by green in google maps), I looped around it to reach QL1A. The road absolutely provides stunning view of the countryside, especially the green fields back-dropped by Nui Chua mountain ranges. I started the entire trip at 9am and reached back Cam Ranh town early at 3pm because I needed to meet up with my friend for a trip with her relatives.
Along the coastal roads, there are a lot of beautiful and empty beaches that are easily accessible, time-permitting. A whole day is more than enough to explore this loop.
Day 3: Nha Trang Beach and Ba Ho Waterfalls
On my last and final day in this province, Lan took me with her family to Nha Trang. It was a chilled itinerary so we were not hurrying to arrive. We reached Nha Trang at about 11am and found some palm trees to shade us. We spread the car cover as picnic mat, and I hanged my hammock from the trees. At this time of the day, only foreigners are enjoying the beach under the scorching heat of the sun. By late afternoon, the coast gets (really) crowded by locals.
I didn’t wanna leave Nha Trang without trekking or doing anything adventurous. So, I googled and found Ba Ho waterfalls, just 45 minutes by car or 1 hour by motorbike from Nha Trang center. It’s a long stream of fresh water studded with big rocks. We had to trek for 30 minutes before reaching the 3rd level where we did cliff jumping.
My bus ride back to Saigon left Nha Trang at 8pm and arrived at 4:30am. In total, I only spent around 800K VND. Read further for the breakdown of expenses.
Suggested 3-Day Itinerary

My spending while I was in this trip was really trimmed because I stayed in my friend’s home for one night, and her family generously hosted me during meals that we spent together. I also brought my amazing hammock which I used for beach camping, which also reduced my spending. I’m itemizing my expenses below while giving you also a ballpark of how much a trip without a host would cost.
My actual expenses excluding food: Bus to Cam Ranh (Gia Phuc bus) – 165K VND Motorbike rent for 1 day – 100K VND Gasoline for 1 day – 60K VND Beach camping fee at Cam Lap – 50K VND Bus from Nha Trang to Saigon (Phuong Trang) – 185K VND Ba Ho Waterfalls entrance – 40K VND Total 600K VND
Additional expenses for you: Homestay or beach camping fee for 2nd night – 100-150K Bus from Cam Ranh to Nha Trang – around 25K VND Motorbike rent in Nha Trang – 100-150K VND
Items To Bring
Your own hammock if you want to beach camp Sun protection (sunblock, sunglasses, hat) Trekking sandals for the waterfalls trek Downloaded map on your phone to navigate the motorbike routes Gadgets (camera, powerbank, phone) Swimming clothes for 3 days
Recommendations
I highly recommend Cam Ranh for travelers who either want to do adventures or just sit back and relax. It’s easily accessible by bus, food and drinks are good and cheap, and it’s studded with things to do. It’s good for those traveling solo and with companion.
You can also check out my 2-day budget itinerary in Mui Ne , where you can enjoy everything Mui Ne has to offer in less than $30.

An independent travel guide to Cam Ranh Bay
Great beaches
Published/Last edited on 14th October, 2016.
Located on the south central coast of Vietnam, Cam Ranh Bay is one of the finest deep-water harbours in the world. The bay has been touted as the next big tourist thing for years now, and it’s not difficult to see why: there are miles upon miles of stunning and largely unspoilt coast. Despite this beauty, and its proximity to Nha Trang, most travellers pass it by, zipping through Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) on their way to the big smoke further north.
While the city still has very little tourist infrastructure, Cam Ranh however will appeal to intrepid travellers who love beaches and aren’t afraid of independent exploration. There are adequate (though by no means fancy) hotels in town and, like Nha Trang to the north, Cam Ranh benefits from a long dry season, lasting from around February to September. The rainy season is short, from October until January. Though this usually just means a short afternoon downpour, there is risk of typhoon. Run-off from the rains will also turn the typically blue waters murky.
Cam Ranh Bay has a long history of military use – it was one of the US military’s largest bases during the Vietnam War. When the US packed their bags and went home, the Soviets moved in and adopted the facilities until their presence was scaled back and the Russian base was eventually closed in 2002. Today it’s controlled by the Vietnamese military and it remains one of the most important strategic bays in Asia, which has countries enviously jockeying for position in a complicated tug of war between Russia, China, the United States, Japan and other Southeast Asian countries. Disputes over the “South China Sea” flare up every so often and in 2015, US officials weren’t so happy when Vietnam struck a deal with Russia to use Cam Ranh Bay to refuel Russian nuclear-capable bombers that were conducting “provocative” flights near an American air ... Best things to do in Cam Ranh Vietnam
Canh Ranh, which used to be a U.S. air and naval base during the Vietnam War, is less crowded than neighboring Nha Trang but has some unique attractions.
It has Vietnam’s fourth busiest airport, a pagoda built from dead coral and sea shells and a nature reserve.
BEST TIME TO VISIT CAM RANH
The best time to visit Cam Ranh is between April and August when the dry warm weather makes it ideal for trekking and adventure sports.
The average annual temperature is 28 degrees Celsius.
Cam Ranh has a long dry season lasting from February to September, which makes it a magnet for vacationing western tourists. But August to November is the storm season.
WHERE TO STAY IN CAM RANH VIET NAM
Along Long Beach lies a series of high-end hotels such as Radisson Blu Resort Cam Ranh, The Anam Cam Ranh, Mövenpick Resort Cam Ranh, Alma Resort Cam Ranh, and Cam Ranh Riviera Beach Resort & Spa with rooms costing VND2.1-5.3 million a night.
For budget tourists, there are mid-range places such as Navy Hotel Cam Ranh, Thai Binh Cam Ranh Hotel and Thanh My Cam Ranh Hotel at prices starting from VND300,000.
HOW TO GET CAM RANH
Cam Ranh is the fourth busiest airport in Vietnam after HCMC, Hanoi and Da Nang.
From Hanoi and HCMC the easiest way to reach Cam Ranh is by air with all local carriers like Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air and Jetstar operating daily flights at fares of VND1.4-2.5 million.
Cam Ranh is 242.3 miles (390 kilometers) northeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Driving between the two popular tourist hubs takes about seven hours.
Trains are another affordable option. Most trains to Cam Ranh from HCMC take less than seven hours.
Around 12 kilometers from Cam Ranh Airport, Bai Dai (Long Beach) stretches for 13 kilometers with turquoise waters and is uncrowded.
Since a 21km long road through a mountainous pass between Nha Trang and Cam Ranh Airport opened in 2004, Bai Dai area has been becoming a resort paradise with a series of luxury projects coming up along the beach.
Sealife Bai Dai tourist complex spreads over an area of 5,000 square meters including a 2,000 sq.m water park. It is situated in shallow water to ensure safety, especially of children, and offers a number of adventure activities for both adults and kids.
A diving tour to see the coral reefs and marine ecosystem costs VND500,000 (US$20.19) per person while a coracle tour is priced from VND140,000.
An underwater walking tour through beautiful coral reefs and schools of colorful marine creatures costs VND800,000 per person and a paragliding ride costs VND500,000.
Tu Van Pagoda on April 3 Street is a fascinating sight to behold with its 40-meter-high tower built entirely of dead coral and sea shells.
The pagoda was built in 1968 by Buddhist monks though it was only in 1995 that they began to build the famous tower using marine debris that is abundant along Cam Ranh’s shores.
There are hundreds of idols of the Buddha and deities on the tower while its inside features the Goddess of Mercy, a deity with 1,000 eyes and arms.
A highlight of the pagoda is its tunnel system called ‘the 18 layers of hell’ that takes approximately 40 minutes to one hour to walk through. It is dark and narrow, and so it may be best that claustrophobic travelers sit this one out. The tunnel is also elaborately decorated with rock, coral and shells between the stark displays of hellish torture.
Sixty kilometers to the southwest of Nha Trang lies the Hon Ba Nature Reserve at more than 1,500 meters above sea level and with a cool climate all year round.
There are 274 species of animals here with 56 featuring in Vietnam’s Red Book of endangered species.
Their habitat is a sublime primeval forest that instantly captivates one’s heart.
Dr Alexandre Yersin established a research station in Hon Ba in 1915, and numerous studies on its medicinal herbs have been carried out since then.
The reserve has preserved a two-story wooden house where Yersin used to stay.
A tour of Hon Ba costs $80-100 that takes visitors on foot through the forest to the top of Hon Ba Mountain to camp overnight or simply have a BBQ.
Some locals serve food at home along the way comprising rice, noodles, vegetables, and meat.
Suoi Tien sheep farm in Cam Thinh Dong Commune has emerged as a popular tourist attraction in Cam Ranh since opening in 2019.
The entry fee is VND30,000 and visitors can take photos with the flock of 100 white sheep there.
Nguyen Ngoc Truc, the owner of the farm, said, in 2008, when he drove a motorbike to tourist sites and saw Cam Ranh’s beautiful sights, he dreamed of building a wild tourist site raising sheep and growing flowers.
He saved money and borrowed some from friends to invest in the place.
Though Cam Ranh is famous for its pristine islands, some like Binh Ba and Binh Hung are off-limits to tourists for security reasons.
But you can tour Binh Lap Island , around 50 kilometers from Cam Ranh Airport and still off the beaten track.
You should stay overnight here though tourism services remain rudimentary.
A bungalow costs for around VND2 million a night at Ngoc Suong Resort, or you can rent a tent on the beach for VND400,000.
Another popular place to stay in Binh Lap is Sao Bien eco-tourism area where rooms cost VND2 million and a tent on the beach is VND500,000.
It has hammocks, table tennis, kayaks, and water slides.
Cam Ranh is around 40 kilometers from Vinh Hy Bay where you can take a glass-bottom boat to see the marine life and colorful coral reefs is a great experience.
A one-day tour takes visitors to Cape Ca Ong, Yen Cave and Turtle Islet and the boat also stops at the coral reef preservation area that has more than 350 species.
Through the vessel’s glass bottom, visitors can see sea urchins, starfish and other creatures thanks to the bay’s crystal clear blue waters.
The tour costs VND700,000 ($30) for a group of four.
There is a small fishing village in Vinh Hy where locals have started offering homestays and fishing boats on rent.
WHAT TO EAT IN CAM RANH
Banh can , a central Vietnamese specialty consisting of crunchy small rice pancakes made with quail eggs, fresh and dry pork and seafood — usually shrimp or squid — is a signature dish in Cam Ranh.
The cakes are cooked in a small clay pan on glowing charcoal and usually sold in pairs.
Banh can is served with a fish sauce, lemon juice, chili, and garlic dip. Some places also serve herbs, pork balls and raw mango as sides.
A portion with all these costs around VND60,000 ($2.62).
You can try it at Ms Tham’s stall at 2066 Hung Vung Street, Ba Ngoi Restaurant at 2420 Hung Vuong and Ms Le’s stall in Cam Loc District.
A bigger and thinner version, banh xeo , is a must-try dish in Cam Ranh Peninsula.
Similar to how banh xeo is made elsewhere in the central region, the cook pours the mixture into small iron molds and adds fresh squid, bean sprouts and onion in the middle. An important ingredient that provides the dish’s unique flavor is the freshly caught squid.
The dipping sauce used for squid banh xeo is fish sauce with chili and garlic.
The dish can be found at Hai Sy’s stall at 204 August 22 Street and Cam Ranh Restaurant in Ba Ngoi Ward.
Another dish not to be missed in Cam Ranh is noodles served with fish that can be found along tourist streets in the beach town. The fish used in the dish is tuna or sailfish with thick, sweet chewy flesh. The restaurant owners remove the bones, chop the fish into pieces and drop it into the broth.
Some restaurants also add fish cakes and jellyfish to the bowl of noodle soup, which comes with bean sprouts, lettuce and herbs, and add a little lemon juice, fish sauce or shrimp paste.
You can try the dish at 96 Hung Vuong Street in Ba Ngoi Ward.
Cam Ranh is blessed with seafood like shrimp, sea urchins, squid, crab, jellyfish, and shellfish.
Seafood fans can sign up for a tour to Binh Lap Island where lobsters are served at an affordable price. Binh Hung lobsters are famous for their freshness. There are red lobsters (long legged and spiny), blue lobsters (blue spiny) and tropical rock lobsters here. The lobsters are grilled, steamed or even eaten raw.

From Nha Trang city , take the National Highway number 1 for about 40km to the south, then turn to the east, go over the Long Ho bridge; you've arrived in Cam Ranh Bay. Cam Ranh Bay is about 100 km2 with five to six km width, nearly 15 km length and a depth of 15-20m.
With the advantages of being a close, wide and deep bay (because it is surrounded by mountains from three sides, and the water is calm throughout the year), Cam Ranh Bay is able to harbor large-tonnage ships of about 10 thousand tons right to the port and 20 thousand tons to the bay door. Cam Ranh Bay's beauty has been well known for a long time. Mountains and sea are combined to form a masterpiece of the natural marvels throughout Cam Ranh. The bay maintains major contrasting colors: the white color of sand, the blue color of the sea and sky, and the green from mountains and trees all year long.
Cam Ranh used to be very noisy and bustling in the past, but now it is quiet and calm. The streets are crowded in the daytime but then become incredibly quiet at night. Fishing villages are located along the coast, nestling themselves in dense coconut or evergreen forests. Coming to Cam Ranh, tourists can enjoy the unique scenery of mountains, sea and landscape. Along the coastal line is a lovely series of residential areas: Ba Ngoi, Da Bac, Bao Gieng and the peninsula across the bay, including the communes of Mi Ca, Binh Ba, Vung Nom and especially the Thuy Trieu lagoon that has a shallow water tide, and is a breeding ground for blood cockle. The blood cockle’s wonderful taste can be compared to the legendary taste of lobster from O Loan lagoon in Phu Yen province, as a poem from long time ago says:
Lobster in Binh Ba Dried deer meat in Dien Khanh Snakehead fish in Vo Canh Blood cockle in Thuy Trieu
If you have a chance to visit Cam Ranh Bay, you can take a 40-minute boat ride from the port of Da Bac (Ba Ngoi) to Binh Ba, the place of sea breezes all year long and beautiful scenery. You can also visit Vung Nom - a bustling fishing village - located on the bank of a peaceful and calm river and surrounded by big gardens of coconut and longan trees. It's also rich with different types of food, most notably lobsters in Binh Ba, which can reach enormous sizes with almost 1-metre antenes. Some can weigh up to seven or eight kilos. In addition, Cam Ranh also has different kinds of seafood, such as snail, crab, seaweed, squid, fish, etc, which are very delicious and reasonably priced. Coming to Cam Ranh in summer, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy an original variety of mango fruit, small but extremely sweet.
Cam Ranh Bay has great economic and touristic potential. All of the beautiful landscapes around the bay, such as the sand, fishing villages, the hills of the peninsula in the extreme southern region, and yellow apricot blossoming all year round always warmly welcome visitors. Cam Ranh Bay is also considered one of the national major gateways to export products from the central Highlands, such as forestry products, rubber, tea, coffee, tobacco, sugar and fruit. Sand from Ba Ngoi is white and contains sillic, the material for chemical industry and producing glass and crystal. Cam Ranh Bay can also be an ideal place to establish shipping industries, fishing and seafood processing to supply hotels and export. Therefore, Cam Ranh Bay will become one of the largest industrial centers in a near future.
If tourists in Vietnam Travel have chance to visit Khanh Hoa Province , Cam Ranh Bay is a must-see place that should not be missed!

Very friendly staff, clean rooms and nice views. They gave us good service all the time. Massage was really nice too.
Clean, new and like the designer theme with sea waves colour.
The room was very comfortable, the outside area very clean and beautiful.
All the staff was very helpful and super nice. They'll assit you right away just after a call. We book villa with private pool and could tell pH from the water is not too high which i really like it. Breakfast was good and lucky that they have shuttle bus go to Nha Trang city or pick up from the airport, super easy and convinence for us. And to compare with another resort that i have research, this one was reasonable.
Pool villa is STUNNING. Staff are amazing, great breakfast and drinks in the Executive lounge. 5 minutes from the airport
To start with the staff was extremely welcoming and accommodating. They all went out of their way to make sure my stay goes smoothly. Special thanks to Kien from F&B and Trang from Front-Desk for always checking about my stay in a very friendly and courteous manner. Also the room was perfect with a good size and an incredible view straight on the sea. The resort itself is an oasis of peace and calm which was exactly what I needed on this trip. Everything was so good that I cut my stay short in Nha Trang (very noisy and chaotic city, crawling with tourists) and I booked a second stay in Radisson in order to finish my visit in Vietnam.
Great resort for family with children. The room is spacious with ocean view and very comfortable. Love the bathroom
The hotel is amazing, the facilities and the area are stunning! We've been welcomed by the director himself, and what we liked the most was that we came with a newborn and the room was really comfortable, we will definitely come back.
The place is beautiful! They provide bikes that you can use in the property and around. The pools are very nice, even a swim lane is provided and the gym is super well equiped. Great breaky too!!
We stayed as half board. Breakfast and dinner is both excellent. Seafood and fruits are so fresh.
