Our Caves of Drach Tour

From May to October this excursion is available daily. HOWEVER: WE RECOMMEND BOOKING: TUESDAY, FRIDAY AND SUNDAY. Since these are the days with fewer crowds and a more express transfer service.

What do we do on this tour?

A visit to the Caves of Drach in Mallorca is a must, they are spectacular. Our tour to the Mallorca "dragon caves" begins at around 9:30 in the morning from Palma city and finishes at approximately 14:15 in the afternoon, which means you still have time to catch some rays at the beach or to enjoy the rest of the day doing as you please, having already lived a once in a lifetime experience!

On this tour we have a local guide on the bus with you all who is very knowledgeable and will give you some information about the itinerary of the day, along with what to see and do in the caves...  The guide will be organizing all the tickets, and everything you need for a smooth visit, for you. Along with the visit to the Cave, this actually has two parts: the visit to the Caves of Drach; and the opportunity to learn a little more about the famous pearls at the Majorica.

Caves of Drach Tickets:

One of the main worries when visiting the Caves of Drach is if you will manage to get tickets or the long queues to get tickets for that same day. On our tour you don’t have to worry about this as we will have the tickets for the Caves prebooked. Once we arrive at the caves our tour guide will collect our entry tickets and pass them around to everyone on the coach, saving you queuing up. Then we will take you to the main entrance and all you must do is scan your ticket that we gave you.

The Caves of Drach visit

Once you enter the caves you´ll be stunned by the beauty of the stalactites and stalagmites . You will be following a pathway viewing all the unusual sights of the cave, sights that you never imagined being hidden away underground. The pathway inside the Caves of Drach themselves is 900 meters long and as you follow through you will pass some of the most spectacular and nicest cave rooms.

The visit inside the Caves of Drach also includes the orchestra concert and the boat trip across Lake Martel . You can see more details below.

After the visit, you will have time to relax if you need to go toilet, have a look to the souvenir shop, have a drink or something to eat at the bar…

Caves of Drach Orchestra and Concert:

This is the highlight of the tour: a live classical music concert that takes place inside the caves beside Lake Martel. This is one of the largest and most fascinating underground lakes in the world. The music paired with the scenery will be a moment you will cherish forever. The lake at the bottom of the cave and the concert from the boat will top off the whole experience perfectly.

You will then witness an extraordinary light spectacle which simulates the sunrise by Lake Martel, and to round off such a magical experience, you will have the chance to briefly go on the short boat trip inside the Caves of Drach on a small rowing boat.

Majorica Pearls

You will also have time on this tour to learn about Majorica Pearls. We will take you to discover the interesting process of the elaboration of pearls on the island. The pearl industry is what the area is known for there. Then, if you would like to, you will have the opportunity to purchase some exclusive jewellery and take some photographs.

Reviews for the Caves Drach Tour :

Thanks a lot to Marianna - super cheerful and helpful guide. The whole way to the caves and back was lot of fun. She also gave very clear instructions and guidance how to manage the whole trip and she gave very useful tips how to make the best out of the time in the Caves. Caves are magnificent, they are like a fairytale. The concert in the cave is an unique and amazing experience!

Mariana was the perfect guide. We were well informed of everything that was happening on our tour. The caves of Drach are stunning and well worth a visit. We first went to the Pearl factory and it was so reasonably priced, I treated myself to a beautiful bracelet. Mariana made sure we all had knowledge of the caves in any chosen language, she met us at the bus stop at 9.15am near our hotel and was a constant source of knowledge until we left the bus at the end of the tour. We would definitely book other tours with the company.

It was great revisiting the Caves Drach Tour with our son after having visited over 25 years ago. Mariana and 'Jumpy' picked us up in Santa Ponsa, and from the start made the journey to and from the Caves Drach a truly fun and joyous experience! We would highly recommend this tour, and this tour operator, if you're thinking of going - you won't be disappointed!

Good tour , the coach trip was ok , bit of comentry from Joe (Pepe) was interesting The caves are spectacular and well worth visiting , only queued for about 5 mins for the little boat across the lake part Didn’t bother with the pearl factory went for a short walk around the harbour instead. Everything Ran to time All in it was a good trip and worth the money

What a unique experience ! Our guide Mariana was SO fun and accommodating, and very knowledgeable. The caves were beautiful and the concert was wonderful with resonating sound and very moving choices of classical pieces. ❤️

The Caves are a MUST SEE. Mariana, the tour leader was very nice. They picked us up at the meeting point and helped us arrange the rest of the day although it was not their duty.

Great tour! Long time on the bus, but was a nice way to see outside the city centre.

The Caves of Drach are more beautiful than the ones we have in Belgium, the Caves of Han. Here on Mallorca they are bigger and longer and also deeper under the ground. Also the music spectacle is nice, but it is a pity that we couldn't take a picture of it.

Got the message for the pickup time and location. The map with location was very useful as the security guard was trying to send me away from the pick up point. When the bus arrived they checked and made sure that for that pick up point all the people for the tour got on the bus. At the caves we did not have to wait for a long time to get into the caves. Excellent service. Thank you

The Tour was amazing. Marianna the tour guide was very friendly gave a lot of information before visiting an amazing cave’s. Went beyond her duties and help to get to hotel by offering a free ride. She really deserves a golden star. Thanks from tourists from California San Francisco

Your Experience

Once you board your ship, sail away into the bustling port of Palma de Mallorca. A friendly local guide will collect you close to where your ship docks. Together, you will set off towards the east of Mallorca, where your first stop is to see the famous Mallorca pearls. Watch as unique, handcrafted jewelry is being made in front of you, and purchase some if you so wish.

Your next stop is at the extraordinary Caves of Drach. While they were already known about during the Middle Ages, it was only in 1896 that French scientist E.A. Martel discovered the cave containing the lake that bears his name today. In 1935, the cave was open for visitors and included a new entrance, building paths, stairs, and, above all, electric lighting designed by the engineer, Mr. Buigas. A tour of the cave takes approximately an hour, the length being about 1,200 meters, and includes a classical music concert and a boat trip across Lake Martel. The temperature inside is about 21°C and the humidity 80%, and the path takes you through a fascinating underworld full of stalactites and stalagmites.

If there is time, you will make a photo stop at Porto Cristo, a little, picturesque fishing village with lovely turquoise waters. After this, you will head back to the port at Palma.

Caves of Drach

8th Wonder of the World

One of the largest caves in Europe and located in Mallorca, the caves are considered by many to be the 8th Wonder of the World.

Lake Martel

Within the caves is Lake Martel, one of the largest underground lakes on the planet; which today plays host to a boat-borne classical music program; which attracts visitors from far and wide. The lake is named after French geologist Edouard Martel who first mapped the cave in 1896.

The Caves Of Drach

The caves are located on the east coast of the island within walking distance of the small town of Porto Cristo and they are extremely popular so do expect the inevitable crowd. The tour of the caves covers around 1.2km and due to the number of visitors, takes place at a very slow pace. You will be led through the many chambers accompanied by a multilingual commentary, which finishes at a vast amphitheatre and Lake Martel.

Stalactites and stalagmites

The chambers are jaw-dropping beautiful and very cleverly lit in a multitude of bright colours designed to enhance dimensions and highlight the impressive stalactites and stalagmites which adorn each chamber. There is also an underground river. It feels at times like you have been transported to a different world.

The Caves Of Drach

During your tour, you will go about 25 metres deep, which results in the caves having 80% humidity and a temperature of around 21°C.

The duration of each tour is one hour. The opportunity does exist to take a short boat ride on the lake at the end of the concert.

If you are driving to the caves, there is free parking and also picnic areas. You’ll also find a café and a souvenir shop plus free WIFI.

The caves are open all year round, offering four daily excursions during winter increasing to seven for the summer months.

Your first stop will be the Majorica factory, where possibly the finest imitation pearls in the world are made. See the manufacturing process before browsing pearl jewellery in the on-site shop. It’s then on to the weekly market in Sant Llorenç. Browse stalls stocked with everything from souvenirs to aromatic herbs and pungent cheeses. It’s a great place to try local food, like Majorca’s famous black-pig pork.

The Drach Caves are next. There are four caves and one large lake, made all the more magical by the specially designed lighting system and a classical music concert from a quartet right in the very depths of the caves – Book now

Mallorca Day Trip to Majorica Pearl Shop and Caves of Drach

BEWARE: There are TWO cave attractions in Porto Cristo. Cuevas dels Hams is much smaller than then the Caves of Drach and contrary to some of their advertising, they do not have a boat ride or concert. Their tickets are also much more expensive than the Drach caves. Many of the road signs around Porto Cristo are misleading and it is easy to think you are being directed to the Caves of Drach.

At the lakeside, you'll enjoy a small classical music concert prior to visiting a factory exhibiting Mallorca's famous man-made glass pearls.

Shortly after exploring the caves, you are driven further along the east coast on the road of Manacor to visit a man-made pearl production facility. Naturally, you'll have the chance to purchase products you find appealing. Reserve this pleasurable Palma de Mallorca tour for a truly memorable experience.
