7 Fabulous Wineries To Visit Near Dallas

  • Wine Tasting

Is there anything better than sipping a great glass of wine? In my opinion, the only thing that is better than sipping a glass of wine is enjoying that glass of wine with a loved one or a group of friends. When I am ready to do just that, I head out to some of my favorite wineries near Dallas.

Granted, wine probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Dallas, Texas, but I am here to help change that! The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is home to numerous wineries and vineyards that are just waiting to be explored.

Whether you are looking for a nice sweet wine or a great dry wine, these wineries near Dallas have you covered. Granted, all of these wineries aren’t in Dallas proper, but they are all near Dallas (within a two-hour drive), making them easy to visit from the Big D.

Let’s jump in and see what these North Texas wineries have to offer!

A vineyard in North Texas

1. Delaney Vineyards

Take a drive on Highway 121 in Grapevine and you are guaranteed to spot Delaney Vineyards. It is the beautiful French chateau surrounded by rows of vineyards right off the highway. Granted, you can hear the cars zooming by while in the vineyard, but don’t let that stop you from visiting Delaney Vineyards.

The owner, Jerry Delaney, fell in love with the architecture of the French chateaus while traveling and decided to fashion his tasting room after an 18th-century French chateau. The incredible wooden doors have welcomed visitors since 1996.

The majority of the wine served at Delaney is estate-grown either on the 10 acres in Grapevine or the company’s larger property in West Texas, Lamesa Estate Vineyards. You can participate in a wine tasting to see which of their red and white wines you like best.

During your visit, be sure to try the Texas claret wine which is a mix of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc grapes. The fruitiness and peppery finish make this a great wine to pair with food.

In addition to its wine-tasting room, Delaney Vineyard is also a premier venue for special events. Offering only one event per day, you are guaranteed to have a dedicated space for your wedding or party.

For operating hours and more information, visit the Delaney Vineyard website .

2. Times Ten Cellars

If you are looking for the perfect place for a date night in Dallas, then look no further than Times Ten Cellars on Prospect Avenue. This Dallas winery has been a neighborhood staple for over 15 years and is the go-to wine bar in the area.

Since Times Ten Cellars is a working winery, you can take a tour of the winery before settling in to enjoy your favorite wine. Their numerous rooms and patio allow for comfortable seating and a fun, laid-back atmosphere for your wine experience.

The wine at Times Ten Cellars is produced from grapes sourced from both Texas and California, ensuring they serve unique wines that are easy to drink. If you aren’t sure where to start, then enjoy one of their tasting flights that serve up red, white, or sweet varieties. They have a delicious pinot noir, a zesty tempranillo, and a fabulous cabernet sauvignon.

In addition to the wines offered at Times Ten Cellars, guests can also enjoy specialty wines and beverages. These offerings include ciders from a local brewery, prosecco, and ports.

For more information, please visit the Times Ten Cellars website .

Lost Oak Winery in Texas

3. Lost Oak Winery

Head about 45-minutes southwest of Dallas to the small North Texas town of Burleson, and you will find Lost Oak Winery. Situated on 52 acres, Lost Oak is more than just a winery, it is a true wine experience. Lost Oak Winery prides itself on being one of the family-friendly wineries in North Texas. This is evident when you visit and enjoy the hiking and biking trails, multiple vineyards, event venue, and fabulous wine-tasting room.

Visitors can take a winery tour to learn all about growing Texas grapes and the production of award-winning wines before trying some of the great wines for themselves. Whether you are choosing a guided tasting in the tasting room, or are going to enjoy your wine out on the patio, you will feel right at home at this Dallas winery.

The high-quality wines produced at Lost Oak Winery range from semi-sweet wines to dry red wines. If you aren’t sure what wine you would like, then be sure to do a tasting at Lost Oak so that you can experience a little of everything. Their popular sweet wines include Orange Muscat and Dolce Rouge. Their popular dry wines include a delicious Montepulciano and a variety of white wines.

I love visiting Lost Oak Winery during its special events. Offering up everything from “Girls’ Night Out” to concerts on the lawn, there seems to always be something going on at Lost Oak. Their fun events are the perfect time to meet up with a group of friends, drink wine, and laugh the night away.

For operating hours and a calendar of events, please visit the Lost Oak Winery website .

4. Arché Winery

Arche Winery is set in the beautiful rolling hills of the Red River Valley, about 1.5 hours north of Dallas. With a focus on Texas grapes, Arche Winery is a unique Texas winery as it is one of the few wineries in the state to grow chardonnay grapes. Combine that with their focus on other French varieties, including syrah and Roussanne, and you know that you are going to be enjoying some good wine!

The winemaker at Arche Winery prides himself on producing high-quality wines that are reminiscent of the wine produced in France. The winemaker uses its Texas grapes to replicate wines produced in the Rhone region of France. They even age their wines in French Oak to ensure the best quality possible. If you are interested in learning more about the winemaking process at Arche, then be sure to sign up for a winery tour during your visit.

Their wine-tasting room is set in the middle of the vineyards so guests are treated to beautiful views as they enjoy their wine. You can do a wine tasting and enjoy four different wines to determine your favorite. Some of my favorite wines at Arche are the chardonnay, Mourvedre, syrah, and the yellow rosé.

Please visit Arche Winery for more information including operating hours and tasting prices.

4R Ranch Winery in Texas

5. 4R Ranch Vineyards And Winery

If you are looking for a North Texas winery that serves up delicious wines while offering a fabulous view, then consider visiting 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery in Muenster, Texas. Honestly, I couldn’t believe the view the first time I visited!

Setting high atop a hill overlooking valleys covered in trees and vineyards, one might think they are in Napa Valley when they visit this beautiful North Texas winery. The winery, which is powered by, “the sun, earth, and wind,” according to their website , offers up the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a glass of wine.

Cozy up to the wine bar inside of the Wind Shed Tasting Room to taste some of the delicious wines produced by 4R Ranch. Of course, like most wineries, you can do a traditional tasting, but if you want a unique experience, why not try one of the barrel tastings offered by 4R? This one-hour tour allows you to learn more about the winemaking process and sample four wines straight from the barrel.

In addition to fabulous, award-winning wines, 4R Ranch also offers guests the opportunity to stay on the ranch. You can rent out the 4R Gasthaus, which is a three-bedroom, two-bath house located on the property. In addition to the guest house, there are also campsites available for rent. During your stay, enjoy a bottle of wine after you finish riding the 9 miles of mountain biking trails on the property.

My 4R Ranch recommendations include the viognier, the rosé, and Nectar, their award-winning sweet white wine.

6. Eden Hill Winery And Vineyard

Dallas farmers market and celina.

Eden Hill Winery & Vineyard is an award-winning winery producing Texas wines from Texas grapes. This family-owned winery prides itself in providing high-quality wines in a sophisticated, yet comfortable atmosphere.

The Celina, Texas location of Eden Hill provides visitors with the opportunity to tour their Eden Hill Estate. The estate, which consists of a 10-acre estate, tempranillo vineyard, cellar bar, and patio, is the perfect place to enjoy wine while relaxing in the Texas countryside.

In addition to the vineyard in Celina, Eden Hill also has a wine-tasting room in the Dallas Farmers Market in Downtown Dallas. Here you can enjoy their delicious wines paired with a tasty dish like their artichoke dip and chips or a luscious chocolate mousse.

My recommendations from Eden Hill Winery include the Montepulciano, the Garden Red, and the Temptation sparkling wine.

Blue Ostrich Winery in Texas

7. Blue Ostrich Winery And Vineyard

What started as a premier ostrich breeding and ranching facility has now become one of the premier wineries near Dallas, Texas, Blue Ostrich Winery & Vineyard. Don’t worry though, if it is the ostrich you are looking for, there are still a few on-site that serve as the winery’s mascots.

The vineyards surrounding the tasting room produce tempranillo, viognier, and cabernet grapes, all yielding some delicious Texas wines. If you are unsure what type of wine you want to purchase, then choose from one of their three tasting options — the Blue Ostrich (all white), the Red Ostrich (all red), or the Black Ostrich (all sweet).

In addition to wines, the Blue Ostrich Winery also serves up some light food options including hummus, a smoked salmon plate, nuts, chocolates, and more. The family-owned and operated business prides itself on providing high-quality wine and a fabulous guest experience. To make the most of this, grab a bottle of your favorite wine and head out to their wonderful patio to enjoy views of the vineyards, and, if you’re lucky, some live music!

Visit their website for more information.

Pro Tip: Many of the wineries on our list are part of the North Texas Wine Country. For a fabulous and fun experience, take part in one of their wine trails to experience the wineries and enjoy a tasting for a discounted price. You can find more information here .

The North Texas Wine Trail: Discover 40+ wineries near Dallas with a special pass

A $50 pass entitles you to tasting flights all october long..

Dr. Fred Cummings runs Edge of the Lake Vineyard in Valley View, Texas.

By Tina Danze

There’s a misconception that Texas wine country is by definition The Hill Country. Sure, The Hill Country boasts more wineries and tasting rooms than any other Texas region. But award-winning wineries are all over the state — some in bucolic settings close to Dallas.

As for vineyards, the Texas High Plains in the Panhandle accounts for 90% of the grapes used by wineries throughout the state. Admirably, many North Texas wineries have planted vineyards and are making estate wines, as well as wines made with Texas High Plains fruit. We’ve highlighted four noteworthy wineries, below.

Want to explore dozens more? North Texas is home to more than 40 wineries within 100 miles of Dallas, including some up-and-coming wineries in the Texoma AVA — one of eight designated viticulture areas in Texas.

Although you can order many North Texas-made wines online, visiting the wineries immerses you in scenic wine country — an unexpected find so close to Dallas. Besides tastings, winery visits can include other experiences, from mountain biking at one, to tours, fishing, games, live music, and picnics at others.

Fall is an ideal time to visit local wineries, says Shari Richter, president of the North Texas Wine Association. From October 1-31, the association hosts one of several North Texas Wine Country events: the Fall Wine Trail. A $50 pass, valid all month, entitles you to tasting flights at more than 40 participating wineries. For tickets to the Fall Wine Trail — or the Drink North Texas wine and music festival on Nov. 5 — visit northtexaswine.com . On Saturday, Oct.15, the Windsong Wine and Music Festival ( windsongwinefest.com ), will feature select North Texas Wineries at Windsong Ranch near Prosper.

Besides festivals and other events, northtexaswine.com suggests day trips and itineraries to follow any time of year. Below are four award-winning wineries to include on your North Texas Wine Trail itinerary.

Hidden Hangar Vineyard and Winery, Denison

Nestled on a beautiful 277-acre property in Grayson County, this is the only North Texas winery that makes only estate-grown wine. Its 50-acre vineyard is the largest in the Texoma AVA. Once home to a barnstorming airport from 1928 through the 1950s, the property was planted with vineyards in the 1990s and currently grows cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, petite verdot, riesling, syrah, and malbec.

In 2017, after years of providing fruit to other Texas winemakers, Hidden Hangar decided to build a winery and make its own wine. “We opened in November of 2019, just in time to close for COVID,” says owner Stormy Cansler. The winery’s 2018 Malbec, Texoma won big at the 2022 Houston Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition, bringing home Gold, Reserve Class Champion, and Texas Class Champion awards; the 2018 Cabernet Franc won Double Gold, and Class Champion the prior year. Other Hidden Hangar Wines have won silver medals at the San Francisco International Wine Competition and the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. In total, the winery makes 17 wines, including five blends, two sparkling wines, and a late-harvest riesling dessert wine.

The winery offers tours, tastings, charcuterie, and picnic lunches for sale; no outside food is allowed, but well behaved dogs are welcome. Besides a putting green, corn hole, and other games on the grounds, there’s an 11-acre lake available for fishing.

Belt buckle awards won by Eden Hill Vineyard & Winery in Celina, Texas on June 1, 2017.

Eden Hill Vineyard, Celina

Off a country road, 15 miles north of Frisco, this winery is just a 45-minute drive from Dallas. Eden Hill grows tempranillo on its estate vineyard, and sources more than ten grape varieties from growers in the Texas High Plains. At the 2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, Eden Hill won four Double Gold medals for the following: the 2020 Albariño; 2020 Petit Sirah; 2019 Garden Red — a sweet tempranillo blend; and the 2020 “Estate” Tempranillo Reserve. Eden Hill also makes white blends, a red Bordeaux-style blend, and petite verdot.

Recently, the winery had its biggest tempranillo harvest. “It was close to nine tons - nearly double last year’s harvest,” says Shari Richter, also Eden Hill’s sale’s manager. She says the winery expects to produce some “incredible estate tempranillo and tempranillo rosé,” with the 2022 harvest.

Winery visitors have a choice of tasting experiences. Reservations are required for 90-minute tastings (1 to 6 people) in The Estate Room. Walk-in guests can enjoy food and wine at the Cellar Bar or on the patio, overlooking the pond. Guests can explore the tempranillo vineyard and grounds — where you’ll spot free range chickens — fish at the pond, and picnic. Weekends bring a variety of special events, including a bonfire and concert on Oct. 29 (tickets sold via website). The winery also has a tasting room at the Dallas Farmers Market.

Dr. Fred Cummings runs Edge of the Lake Vineyard in Valley View, Texas.

Edge of the Lake Vineyard, Valley View

Open for just 1 1/2 years, this father-and-son-owned winery and 100-acre estate sits on a peninsula surrounded by Lake Ray Roberts. Located 58 miles from Dallas, in the Texoma AVA, the winery grows tempranillo, albariño, and grenache on 15 acres of vineyards — the oldest vines being 12 years old. Winemaker, co-owner, and COO Chris McIntosh says he and his father will plant more varieties on the property’s 55 additional acres of farm land. Meanwhile, Edge of the Lake sources seven grape varieties from the Texas High Plains. It currently makes 13 different wines, of which three are estate wines.

The winery won awards soon after opening: The 2020 “Tempetite,” Reddy Vineyards (a blend of tempranillo and petite verdot) won Gold at the 2021 San Francisco International Wine Competition; and the estate grown 2020 Grenache, Texoma, won Gold as well as Best in Category at the 2021 Lone Star International Wine Competition.

The family’s sprawling home was converted into a winery and tasting room, with windows along the backside affording views of the lake and vineyards. Reservations are recommended for tastings, which last about 90 minutes. The menu includes an elaborate cheese and charcuterie board designed to complement the wines, hearty bruschettas, hummus with pita chips, and sangria.

Visitors are allowed to bring picnics to enjoy with wine on the patio or on the grounds. Guests are also welcome to wander the vineyards while sipping wine. Sunday afternoons on the patio, there’s live music ranging from country and R&B, to blues and jazz.

The winery has big expansion plans for 2023: a splashy, larger winemaking facility, lodging for overnight visitors, and a boat ramp. “We’ll be the first winery you can visit by boat,” McIntosh says.

4R Ranch Vineyards and Winery, Muenster

4R Ranch Vineyards and Winery, Muenster

This winery’s gorgeous 1,100-acre estate is in the thick of North Texas’ ilhl country — just 74 miles from Dallas. The winery made history at the 2019 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, when its 2017 Nectar Nero (a dessert wine) was the first Texas wine to win top honors — the coveted Sweepstake Medal — as well as a Double Gold medal .

The 3-acre vineyard in the Texoma AVA is planted with viognier and cabernet sauvignon, which provide fruit for 4R Ranch’s estate wines. The winery produces about 20 wines, including albariño, tempranillo, trebbiano, roussanne, and malbec, made with Texas High Plains grapes. Occasionally, the winery sources grapes from California when it can’t get enough Texas fruit. “We planted six acres of grapes that were hammered by winter storm Uri in 2021 — it got down to minus 14 here,” says Walt Roper, co-owner of 4R Ranch.

Perched on a ridge, the winery’s Wind Shed Tasting Room offers stunning, 270-degree views of the Red River Valley and the seven wind turbines on the property (hence the Wind Shed name). The restored Barnhaus — originally a hay barn — was converted into a winery production facility and event space, operating with solar energy and using geothermal technology for heating and cooling. The winery also has a tasting room in McKinney, on the historic downtown square.

Besides tours, tastings, and a food menu, the winery offers guesthouse and campsite accommodations. The estate is also popular with hikers and mountain bikers, who pay $10 to cycle the hilly Brambles Trail that winds through the ranch. Nov. 18-20, the winery will host the DORBA North Texas Mountain Bike Festival, featuring races, live music, food, wine, and outdoor sports vendors. Visitors are welcome to sip wine while watching the mountain bikers ride on Saturday, and race on Sunday.

review by - Yelp

This is a very beautiful wine place! They were very accommodating to my large party-They had set aside a special room for us! Everyone enjoyed the cuisine and ambiance! I had the cheese platter with a glass of Prosecco- throughly enjoyed myself! Great place for small and large groups!
A great location to hang out with friends and family. They have a huge patio that accommodates big groups when the weather is nice. Wednesday's they usually have a pizza truck from which you a place dinner orders and Sundays from about 4-7 they have live jazz. Their wines are great. Our favorite is their Tempranillo - grapes from New Mexico. If you sign up for their email list, you will see various monthly winespecials.
I went for a girls wine tasting and everything was perfect. We were greeted by JP who assisted us through the tasting in a private area in the back of the winery. I decided to try the sangria as well as a Cesar salad with chicken. The small salad was filling and delicious. The dressing was homemade and more of a oil based vs creamy texture. I would come back again either for a date night or a tasting event.
Ambiance is very nice with a classy vibe There are rooms you can reserve for private parties. There's wide selection of wine, I'm no sommelier therefore I don't remember the ones we tried, but all were good! Love the cheese and cracker board. This is perfect for adulting or date night.
We had a great time at Times Ten Cellars! We sat on the outdoor patio area. The wine selection was great. We also order the cheese platter and caprese salad both which were delicious! Staff was very attentive. Great place to pick up a bottle of wine or gift card.
