15 Creative Ways To Reveal A Surprise Disney Trip

April 27, 2021 //  by  Mckensie Shiner //   Leave a Comment

Planning to book a surprise Disney trip to gift to someone in your life? Then, keep reading! It’s everyone’s dream to be surprised with a trip to Walt Disney World. The only tricky part is, how will you tell the person the news? Will you give a countdown calendar to your significant other or tell your kids they’re visiting relatives out of town?

Whoever you’re surprising, we are sure to have a great way to make the Disney trip reveal magical for everyone involved.

1. Countdown Calendars

Personally, we LOVE this idea because we have everything you need for this! A countdown calendar is a great way to let everyone know of your surprise Disney trip! On our Facebook page, you can find some of our free countdown calendars and print them out!

Feel free to hang it in plain sight or package it up like mail and give it to whoever you’re giving your surprise Disney trip to. This is a great Disney trip reveal and doesn’t take a lot of planning.

This is a great choice for those who don’t have a lot of time or for older teens/adults who don’t require a very extravagant approach, as younger kids may need a bigger surprise.

Join our Facebook group to access free printable Disney countdown calendars for your surprise Disney trip announcement.

2. Disney surprise box

Have you considered giving a Disney surprise box for your Disney trip reveal? If you want to give a memorable trip to the person you’re surprising, this is a great way to do so!

One of our favorite websites for sending a Disney surprise box, chock-full of goodies from the Disney parks, is Pixie Dust 2 U. From this site, you can choose a boy or girl box. Some boxes have contained the following items: Disney luggage tag, color pack, Minnie/Mickey drawstring bag, non-park lightweight ears, lanyards, and other fun Disney items!

Use the code “WELCOME2U” for 10% off your first order!

3. Disney Shirts Reveal

Another great way to pull off your Disney surprise trip is by revealing it with Disney shirts! Whether you are surprising your significant other, friend, or family member, this is another simple fun way to let them know what you have planned!

In order to do this, it’s important to incorporate their favorite Disney character or movie to make it all that more sentimental for everyone involved. You can also save the shirts and wear them for your trip!

A popular design for Disney shirts is the family vacation ones which normally have the family name, month, and year.

Check out our Disney shirt post here, which is all-inclusive when it comes to the relationship with the person you’re surprising.

4. On the way to the airport

A great way to surprise kids with a Disney trip is to wait until the last minute to do so. This approach can be even more exciting since they have no idea the surprise Disney trip is coming.

As you approach the airport, ask them where they think you’re going. Drop hints such as dressing them in Disney clothing or playing Disney music in the car.

Once you arrive at the airport, let them know what you’ve planned. Their reactions will be worth the wait!

5. Scavenger Hunt

For the adventurous person in your life, a scavenger hunt is a great way to reveal a Disney trip! Start with a small note in the house and lead to the backyard, garage, etc. until you finally reveal a clue that reveals the surprise!

There are SO many of these scavenger hunts on Pinterest and the possibilities are endless with this approach. However you decide to set it up is your choice, but there are so many neat ways to really make the person wonder what you’re up to! If you’re wondering how to surprise kids with a Disney trip, this is the way!

6. Going to Grandma’s House

If you are able to commute to Disney World, telling your kids they’re going to a relative’s house is a great way to surprise them. This approach even allows you to pack clothes for them and not have questions asked when loading up the car.

This is best for small children, but older children may appreciate this one as well. It definitely depends on the child, though! Some may feel overwhelmed when planning for one thing and getting something completely different. Surely, once they get there, they will be in their element!

7. Suitcase filled with Disney items

This surprise is a great way to give the person you’re surprising some extra gear for the trip and being extra thoughtful while doing so! I mean, really, who wouldn’t love a suitcase or bag full of Disney items?

Some items to include are a pair of ears, character hand sanitizer, character masks, Disney keychains, autograph books, and anything else you can think of! Bonus points if the suitcase or travel bag is Disney-themed!

For more Disney items you could include here, try reading our article  Disney items from Amazon!

8. Mickey balloons wrapped in a large box

Similar to the gender reveal trend, this Disney surprise trip reveal involves a large box and Mickey-shaped balloons! Simply fill them up with helium (or air) and cut the box open to show your surprise!

If you decide to fill the balloons with air, you will just have to pull them out by hand. That is why this is ideal with helium balloons so they float to the top!

You can find cheap balloons at your local dollar tree! These include Mickey as well as other Disney character balloons! Read our Disney Dollar Tree post for more cheap finds!

9. Invitation From Mickey

This Disney surprise trip is foolproof and just requires some paper, a p en, and maybe some colored markers and stickers if you really want to seal the deal! Writing an invitation from Mickey is a great way to surprise someone with a Disney trip!

Since Mickey is the star of the show here, it’s only right he sends the invitations out, to be honest. There are so many different options for what to say in this letter, but including one of Mickey’s famous catchphrases like “oh boy!” Or “see you real soon,” is sure to authenticate it.

10. Disney-inspired breakfast

What better way to let someone know about a surprise trip to Disney than by bringing a little bit of Disney to them? Especially when it comes in the form of food!

Make some Mickey waffles or Gaston’s famous cinnamon rolls and let them guess what exactly it is you’re planning for them by giving them one of their favorite Disney treats as a hint.

If you’re not a great cook or baker, it’s always okay to store-buy items, too. It helps if everything is easily identifiable as Disney snacks, but if not, simply have them guess where they can find most of these tasty treats! It should be pretty obvious!

We also have a recipe for Epcot’s Violet Lemonade here , which is a great addition to whatever you decide to prepare!

11. Customized Disney Tickets

An easy at-home Disney surprise reveal involve making customized Disney tickets! With this idea, you can pretty much do whatever you would like as far as designs go. You can use construction paper or cardstock and either design them online or handwrite them!

Additionally, there are also templates online which you can utilize to carry out this Disney trip reveal. Add names and their favorite Disney items or characters to really make this one special!

Shop these adorable custom tickets on Etsy here!

11. Decorate a space in the house

What better way to announce the surprise than to decorate a spot in the house and throw a mini Disney party! This is one of the best ways to announce this since it’s pretty obvious what is coming when you set this up!

Refer to our Disney Dollar Tree post to find some awesome decorations to do this with!

Shop for Mickey decor on Amazon here!

12. Disney Surprise Puzzle

This is yet another great idea due to the creativity that comes with it. It is also a great idea for kids! Give them a blank puzzle box and tell them the surprise is in the completed puzzle. They will be so excited to put it together and even more so when they realize what the surprise is!

There are hundreds of puzzles online for this Disney surprise trip reveal! You can find puzzles like the one below on Etsy here.

13. Drop gifts as hints

Similar to the surprise box and suitcase full of gifts, this is nearly the same but a little dialed back. As you await the initial surprise announcement, you can start to give gifts that may allude to the surprise. For example, maybe give them a new Disney shirt and when they ask what the occasion is, say it’s for something coming up.

This can be done with virtually anything, such as wax melts, hats, or jewelry! Some great Disney gifts including the one below can be found on Etsy or by clicking  here!

14. Disney button

Disney buttons are an instant giveaway for a Disney trip and are perfect for anyone who doesn’t like to keep a secret for too long, or feels that the person/people they’re surprising will catch on quickly! By gifting a Disney button, you’re also giving them something to wear during the trip, which is always a bonus!

This great Disney button from Etsy can be found here.

15. Play Youtube videos as a hint

If you’re looking for another simple and. cost-effective reveal, this is the one for you! This can be as simple as playing the fireworks from Happily Ever After (which is on YouTube in HD), or maybe a clip from their favorite ride.

Even more simply, you can play a Disney promo video such as this one!

There are also hundreds of Disney surprise trip reveal videos on the site you could easily show them and then ask them what they would do if that was them… then tell them it is!

Last year, we did a huge surprise trip for a Disney Cruise . We gave big hints we were leaving from Florida and used this awesome reveal as the final gift Christmas morning. But we added a few small Christmas gifts that were Disney-themed to help them guess. One of them was a Mandalorian advent calendar. I snagged it on mega sale at the end of the holiday season, and had my boys use it the following month to countdown to our trip. The advents as a trip countdown were the biggest hit- so much so that we’re gifting bonus Disney themed Lego Advent Calendars to our kids this year with a surprise trip reveal!

The First Step: Decide When You Will Reveal the Big News

There are so many great ideas when it comes to surprising your kids with a Disney trip. The first thing you want to decide is how soon you want to announce a Disney trip: do you want them to be surprised with the news as you're heading to the airport? Do you want them to have time to be part of the planning process and tell them earlier?

Essentially you have two main options: surprising them  prior to the trip whether that's weeks/months in advance OR surprising them with ‘look we're at Disney RIGHT NOW!'

Sneak Surprise: Revealing the News en Route to Disney

For folks that are looking to surprise their kids en route to the Disney destination, you first have to make sure you don't spill the beans too soon by giving away clues. I personally could never do this because I'm not capable of keeping a secret that long! But if you have the willpower, this is surely a way to make this an unforgettable way to announce a Disney trip!

Word of caution: make sure you know that this is the right way for your kiddo to find out! Some kids don't like surprises like this. I had a friend that tried this and her son started crying in the airport! He was so shocked and excited that it just overwhelmed him. Not the fun vacation video she was hoping for! There's plenty of ‘Disney Announcement Fails' all over YouTube- it can be a risky way to announce a trip. Part of what makes up those fails is the idea of telling your kids a false destination in its place- sometimes kids might really want to go to grandma's house! You know what's best for your kiddo and if this is the right way to announce a Disney trip.

If you do decide this is the right choice, there are a few ways you can announce the trip. You can wait until you arrive at the airport and announce it prior to departure. This may be the easiest if your kids are older because most kids would be asking a million questions about where you are going. If your kids are smaller, it's easier to get away with waiting for the announcement until you literally arrive at Disneyland or Walt Disney World.

So if this is your plan- timing is everything. Consider if you can make it all the way to your flight arrival without the surprise being spoiled if this is your plan. Some airports will be covered in Disney ads or souvenir stores which might clue in older kids. If you make it through the airport with the big reveal still a surprise then you have two options: reveal the surprise en route to the hotel/at the hotel or at the Disney Park you are heading to.

If you're visiting Walt Disney World and staying in a Disney owned hotel, many of the hotels offer services that decorate your room with Disney themed toys or decor to start off the vacation in an exciting way. Over at Disneyland, you can also find plenty of local Anaheim services that take care of this for you too.

And of course, if you debut the surprise at the park entrance- you really don't need more than the magic of the Disney Parks entrance to make your kids squeal with excitement.

Advance Surprise: Announcing Your Trip

There are a few benefits to revealing your surprise in advance. For one, the announcement process can be more detailed and creative! You can also then incorporate countdown chains, calendars, or ask your children to get involved with the trip planning which can held build excitement! If you book with our travel partner, Get Away Today , you will receive tons of links to free downloads for printable vacation countdowns, packing lists, and more which can help build that excitement.

You can also consider holidays or birthdays in relation to your trip announcement. Is the trip a birthday or Christmas celebration? As experiences replacing material possessions get more popular this is one idea to tie in your trip and also make that holiday/birthday an unforgettable experience.

Think about how far in advance you want to reveal the news. I have found in my personal experience that if I reveal it too far in advance that the excitement is rather muted. ‘Oh, we're going to Disneyland?! But not for eight months….?' Time can be a struggle for kids to understand so I recommend revealing the news closer to the departure date so it's close enough to look forward to but not too far to feel irrelevant.

Creative Ways to Announce the Big Trip

Now for the fun part… the big reveal! There are so many cute ideas for announcing a Disney trip for your kids, here are some of my favorite ideas that I found.

Image result for suitcase disney

Fill a suitcase with that they will need on their trip to Disney. Make sure to include some Disney related t-shirts, Mickey ears or autograph books to help clue them in. This way the excitement is revealed and they have some goodies to enjoy right away too! Bonus points if you get them their own little suitcase- that can make the experience feel more special for kids that are traveling for the first time.

Image result for christmas disney present

If you're giving the gift of Disney for Christmas or a birthday then half the fun is in the present opening. You can give gifts that clue them in on where the trip is (Minnie ears? Stuffed Mickey Mouse? Magic Bands?) and then let them guess! Or you can be more direct and put the tickets in a small box (consider using printed out fake ones just so you don't risk damaging your real ones) and have them open it!

Wrapping Disney Balloons

This is one of my favorite ways to announce a trip! Get a big box, wrap it, and fill it with helium balloons. You can get a custom balloon done (check local party stores or go online on Etsy!) and have it announce your trip. Or fill it with Disney themed helium balloons. You could put a sign on the balloon that says ‘You're going to Disney!' or write it out on a card to put in the bottom of the box. Nothing says happiness more than balloons!

Scavenger Hunt

Create a scavenger hunt that includes clues about your trip and ends with the big reveal. You can find plenty of scavenger hunt templates on Pinterest or by searching online. For smaller kids, you can also start this into a string scavenger hunt to keep them focused and on track. Consider keeping the scavenger hunt confined to a smaller space if you want to be able to get the best video of it. I found a really neat printable scavenger hunt here to get you started.

Letter from Mickey

Imagine the excitement when your kids receive a personalized letter from Mickey inviting them to Walt Disney World or Disneyland. You can find plenty of printable options online for free or on Etsy for an additional cost. This website shares some links to free printable Mickey graphics and Mickey inspired fonts to help you create your own! You could include the letter in a large box of Disney goodies (like she did here) or you can mail it to your kids!

For some kids that have been to the parks before, they might have learned to associate certain foods with the Disney Parks. You can find some recipes online to create your own Dole Whips or Mickey waffles at home and surprise the kids with a themed meal. The Disney Food Blog always has some great recipes to try to make the most authentic Disney Parks foods right at home. This can be a delicious way to announce a Disney trip!

disneyland trip reveal ideas

If Universal Studios is on your destination list and your kids are big Harry Potter fans then you can't resist sharing the news with Hogwarts acceptance letter along with a ticket to the Hogwarts Express! Our travel partner Get Away Today shared this awesome free printable for both Hollywood and Orlando on their blog.

I recently used this when I revealed to my son we were also heading to Universal Studios Hollywood during our upcoming Disney vacation. He had been asking for awhile because he loves Harry Potter so I printed these out, rolled them up like scrolls, and attached them to a stuffed owl. I told him over dinner and he loved it! He thought for a moment Hogwarts actually sent them! A very cool memory to have.

Well there you have it, there are some creative ways to announce a Disney trip to your kids! Considering the amount of time, money, and planning that goes into a Disney trip it makes sense to dedicate some energy to the big reveal. Coming from experience of a mom that has done a few of these reveals along with a few epic fails, here is a piece of advice for those of you taking first timers to the parks: don't be disappointed if they're not that excited. If they've never been to Disney before, they may not fully know how amazing it is. The excitement will come later, don't worry!

Disney Scavenger Hunt Clues: How To Reveal A Surprise Trip To Disneyland!

Sharing is caring!

Making the decision, saving, and planning a trip to Disneyland can be such an exciting time! You are ready to make those magical memories together and take a break from the grind.

Especially if you’ve worked hard to  plan a trip to Disney on a budget  while you’ve been saving and preparing.

Yet, how do you want to tell your children about the big news? You could just yell:

We are going to Disneyland!

Or do you want to make it a surprise? The surprise element can be so much fun for everyone, even the person writing the Disney scavenger hunt clues.

That’s why I wanted to share with you some of our experiences and tips for surprising your family with a Disney themed scavenger hunt.

Disney Scavenger Hunt Clues: How to Reveal a Surprise Trip to Disneyland!

Here are some things to think about when revealing a surprise trip to Disneyland:

  • How should we tell the kids?
  • Should we tell them right away, or should we tell them the day before we leave?
  • What about making Disney scavenger hunt clues?
  • How should we reveal a surprise trip to Disneyland to the kiddos?

CLICK HERE TO READ OUR ULTIMATE LIST  OF THINGS YOU MUST BRING ON A DISNEY VACATION.

When you plan your family to have a magical vacation in Disneyland, it can be a ton of fun for everyone to make it a surprise! I can’t tell you how many families do it this way and I want to help your family reveal a surprise trip to Disneyland too.

When Should You Surprise The Kids?

Disneyland Trip

There are a few things to consider as you decide  WHEN to reveal the surprise Disney trip.

First, answer this. Do you want the kids to feel the anticipation leading up to the Disney vacation? If you answer yes, then I’d suggest revealing the surprise at least 1 month before the trip.

This will allow you to have your little one (or ones) help you plan their outfits, watch the most recent Disney movies, and maybe include them in small parts of the travel planning.

Now, if you think you are good at keeping secrets and you’d rather surprise them closer to the trip, just be prepared to hide all the evidence. That means the Disney ears and hats need to be hidden like you do Christmas presents.

That brings me to my last point regarding when to reveal the trip. If you plan to give the gift of a family Disney vacation for Christmas, then you may already know ‘when’ to do the big reveal. When they are opening their Christmas presents!

Surprise Disney Vacation

Once you decide on  WHEN to tell the kiddos, then it’s time to come up with the actual surprise part.

Your timing might not allow you to wait too long to tell them. For instance, if you plan a last-minute trip to Disneyland as we did, you will have to come up with a quick way to reveal the surprise.

I decided that making a scavenger hunt was the way to go, and I only had 1 day to put it all together .

Here are my tips on how to reveal a surprise trip to Disneyland!

How Should We Tell The Kids?

First, decide how you want to tell your kids. Take into consideration their ages and how many children you have.

You know them best, so keep that in mind while you are trying to decide if you want to make it a big surprise or a not-so-big surprise.

If your children are very young, then you could simply give them a Disney present to open to reveal the trip.

Disney Present - Reveal A Surprise Trip To Disneyland

Another option is to let the kiddos know during a conversation when the whole family is together, such as during dinnertime.

However, a very popular option is to make a scavenger hunt for the kids to follow to find out the surprise at the end. This is exactly what we did and our kids loved it!

Making a Disney Scavenger Hunt Quickly

Putting together a scavenger hunt does not have to be super extravagant. I am here to help you make a quick Scavenger Hunt.

Try not to stress so much on all the perfect details, unless that’s something you really enjoy and you have the time. I, on the other hand, did not have much time when we were planning our trip to Disneyland.

I suggest after reading this post and using our ideas, go do another quick Google search or a visit to Pinterest. You can often get inspiration and fun idea on how detailed you’d like to be on your scavenger hunt.

I’m also going to share my ideas here to help you think a bit about how you want to make your scavenger hunt.

1. Be Resourceful with the Materials that you Have

Materials you have

Use materials you have around the house. If you have access to a printer and some colored paper, you could type up the clues and print them out easily. I had access to paper and a pen so I wrote my clues out.

If you have more than one child, be prepared for them to work together as a team. The definition of a scavenger hunt often involves teamwork and not individual hunting. In all honesty, your kids will not care if the paper is beautiful or not. They are excited for the hunt itself!

2. Write the Disney Scavenger Hunt Clues

Free-writing is a quick way to knock it out and then look back and make a few changes. Once I had my paper and pen, I just began to writing things down in my notebook.

I started out by thinking of the 5 or 6 places I wanted to hide each clue. Our family is a bit unique in that we are currently living and traveling full time in a  33-foot RV . So, our space is small and limited for hiding things.

You may want to make 10-12 clues depending on the age of your children and the size of your house.

Click here to learn how to plan a trip to Disney World on a Budget!

Be sure to number the clues so that you do not get confused.

Making your hunt into a surprise Disney trip poem is also another way to make the scavenger hunt fun. However, do not be hard on yourself if you are not great at rhyming.

I found that a great way to add a little extra challenge at the end of the scavenger hunt is to make a list of some main ‘clue words’ such as: fun, outside, rides, princesses.

Then use those words in different clues and underline the main clue words. This way, if the kiddos get to the end of the hunt and still haven’t figured it out, they can look back at each underlined word on the clues and try to piece it all together.

3. Add a Few Extra Treats or Surprises Along the Way

Adding a little more excitement to your hunt can be fun.  Why not give out a piece of candy or treat with the finding of a clue?

Be aware that small toys as ‘extras’ do not always excite the children as they are thrilled to finish the hunt. I found this to be true during our Disney scavenger hunt.

Disney Scavenger Hunt Clues

We gave a bracelet to each of our 4 kids hidden with one of the clues and they didn’t even seem to care. The kids were way too excited to finish the scavenger hunt and find out what it revealed.

Oh, and if you really want to give them a Disney themed gift , wait until the finale as you don’t want to reveal the ending too soon!

Examples of Disney Scavenger Hunt Clues

– Don’t be stressed, look where you get dressed!

– You’re getting warmer, but I am not. The next clue lies where it never gets hot.

– Getting the first clue will be a joy, look inside your plastic red toy.

– This isn’t a wild goose chase if you go to the place where you can see your face.

– Be ready to be in the hot-hot sun, where I’m sure you will have lots of fun. We are going to a special place, that will be sure to lighten up the birthday girl’s face!

– To find your next clue go to the place you find your brush, the one that you use to keep your teeth from turning to mush.

** The clues do not have to be publish-worthy – you are not writing a book, just a fun scavenger hunt for your kids!

If you’re not good at rhyming, you could try writing a clue with a number code. Such as 1 = a, 2 = b, 3 = c and so on.

The Finale – How to Reveal a Surprise Trip to Disneyland!

Surprise Trip to Disneyland

There are a few ways that you can do the finale. You can have the last clue bring the kids to a  gift to open that has a Walt Disney World shirt, hat, ears etc. This will hopefully reveal the Disney trip!

Or, you can finish it off with a  final clue  to get the kids thinking.

If the kids have not figured it out after reading all the clues, then you could have them look back at each clue together and suggest that they look at the highlighted or  underlined  words on each paper.

This is what I did and it worked out great!

I underlined the words such as ‘ princess ’, ‘ rides ’, and ‘ outside ’. Then, at the end of the scavenger hunt the kids sat around our table and re-read the underlined words on the clues.

Whichever way you decide to make the finale happen, be sure to have your video camera rolling. The look on each of their faces once they realize where you are going is priceless! We are going to Disneyland!!

From Our Parent Panel: Fun Disney Trip Reveal Ideas

One of the most exciting parts of planning a family vacation to the happiest place on Earth is planning the big reveal! How do you let your kids know that they’re going to be visiting the mouse and all his friends? When do you tell your kids about their upcoming trip? There are so many options! I’m here to tell you some of my favorite reveals! Some I have done myself and some I have witnessed, as well as advised on the right time to reveal the amazing news!

First, let’s start by discussing when is the right time to reveal your trip? One thing to consider is the age of your kids and well, let’s be honest, how long do you want to hear your kids ask, “how much longer?”, “when are we going?”, etc… It’s basically the equivalent to the age old question, “are we there yet?”! If you’re prepared to start an epic countdown with your kids, or confident in your ability to keep your cool while your kids’ excitement can barely be contained, then go for the reveal early and enjoy the countdown.

If you’re feeling like you want to keep things a little more low key and give an epic surprise last-minute, then that’s the right time for you and your family! I personally love the last minute reveal! I recently surprised my kids with a Disney trip the day before we left, and the surprise and excitement in telling them that we were leaving the next day was tons of fun! However, I do think there are many fun and exciting countdown methods that make an earlier reveal exciting too! The moral of the story is that there is no right or wrong time for the big reveal- just consider the pros and cons and make the best choice for you and your family!

disneyland trip reveal ideas

Are there holidays or events coming up before your trip? Disney trip reveals can be tons of fun for Easter basket ideas, Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers, graduation presents, birthdays and so much more! Lets talk about some of these fun reveal ideas!

  • Easter Baskets! I did an Easter reveal for one of my kids’ trips to Disney World. I bought cheap carry-on size kids suitcases to use as the “basket”! Then, I filled the basket up with fun vacation-themed necessities, such as sunglasses, hats, Disney tank tops and more! Some other options to put in an Easter basket would be autograph books (when character autographs return, which will hopefully be soon), pressed penny books, Disney pins, Minnie ears, and so much more! Be creative! It doesn’t have to break the bank. There are lots of great options!
  • Christmas gifts! Another great reveal I was able to pull off with my kids was to use “Disney tickets” that a fellow agent helped to create. I put them in a small box, wrapped that box and put it in a bigger box, wrapped that box and put it into another box and so on until I had a large box the size of a refrigrator (ok not quite, but defintely large) and wrapped that and labeled it to both my kids, so that they would open it together! It was a great fun reveal that was filled with tons of screams and excitement!
  • Stocking Stuffers! The stocking stuffer reveals are very similar to the Easter basket reveal! There are so many fun, inexpensive options to put into a stocking that will have your kids scratching their heads and questioning what could all these fun Disney themed items mean? Could it be we are going to the happiest place on Earth? Let the squeals of pure Disney bliss ensue!
  • Graduation Presents! This could be a Kindergarten graduation, Middle school graduation, or for the kids like me that don’t ever want to grow up, a High School or College graduation. Disney is for kids of all ages so if you have a Mickey-loving adult child in your life, embrace it and use the celebration to make more amazing memories by taking your graduate to see the castle, the mountains, or take them around the world. . .showcase at Epcot! Use a map and circle the countries found in the world showcase at Epcot! See how long it takes your scholar to realize that they are going to be taking a trip to the place where dreams come true!
  • Birthdays! A great way to reveal a Disney trip for a Birthday is by creating a Disney trip reveal scavenger hunt! Create clues to lead your Birthday boy or girl to locations in your home or other party venue, leave another little clue, then another, until your child finds a Birthday present, unwraps it, and balloons pop out with a note attached that says, “Surprise, you’re going to Disney World!”. Hint! I would love a trip to Disney World for my birthday every year!
  • Don’t tell them! Lastly, a fun way to surprise your kids with a trip to Disney World is to not tell them at all! Pack the bags, load the car up and don’t say a word! Tell the kids to hop in the car and see how far you can make it before they ask, “where are we going?”! This one is tough but oh so fun and exciting!

Fun Ways to Reveal a Disney Surprise to the Kids

Caroline Knowles

You’ve been working for months to plan the perfect surprise Disney vacation. Your dining and FastPass+ reservations are booked. You have the packing list and everything is good to go. Now, it’s time to decide how to reveal the Disney surprise to the children. Many wait until the day of departure to avoid the “How many more days? ” questions. Others give Disney trips as birthday or Christmas gifts and count down the days. There are so many creative ways to add some extra pixie dust to your big reveal. I can’t wait to share some of our ideas with you.

Disney Surprise: The. Best. Gift. Ever!

I have planned surprise Disney trips several times for my family. As a travel agent, I truly believe there is no other greater gift than travel. I have learned from each experience the age of your children is very important when determining how and when to reveal the Disney surprise.

The first time we surprised our son he was 5.  We let him open a present full of Disney Parks items two weeks before departure. He was thrilled to open a present. Sadly, the reveal ended in tears for our son, and myself. He wanted a toy. Something he could play with right then and there. Of course he did, he was 5.  We should have waited until the day we left to avoid the disappointment. Lesson learned.

SheBuysTravel Tip :  If your child is under the age of 7, consider waiting until the day you leave to share the surprise trip. Children at this age simply do not understand time and you could end up with a tearful situation. And choose to stay in one of these magical Disney World resorts for kids.

Disney Surprise Reveal in a Restaurant

This was by far my favorite Disney surprise! We took our children to Walt Disney World  for a week in December. Yes, we are those parents who take the kids out of school to visit Disney when the crowds are low.

We told our kids we were going to see an amazing Christmas light display in Florida one evening (we live 45 miles from the state line). This was back when the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights was still in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

I packed the car earlier in the day and secured the suitcases so they could not see them. On our way to the lights, we stopped by Cracker Barrel for dinner.

My husband gave the hostess a bag containing two Mickey Santa ears previously ordered from the Disney Store. He asked the server to deliver these to the table with our drink order.

The reveal was priceless. The children were in shock when the server arrived at the table with their ears. My son (then age 13) immediately looked at me with big eyes and asked, “ Are we going on a Disney World Trip? ” My daughter (then age 5) started crying and grabbed onto me for dear life murmuring, “ Thank you! Thank you! “

All of the nearby tables started clapping, which added to the excitement. We left the restaurant and drove halfway to Disney that evening.

Disney Surprise with a Scavenger Hunt or Treasure Hunt

Surprising your children with a scavenger hunt is a very popular reveal. Warning – this will require some creativity on your part. The ultimate goal is to give the children an idea of where they are going without outright telling them. Purchase some of the items you will need for a Disney vacation (Mickey ears / Minnie ears, autograph books, backpack, MagicBands, customized Disney shirts, their favorite Disney character plush, etc.) and use them as clues.

Christmas Reveal with Elf on the Shelf

One of the best ideas I have seen for surprising children with a trip for Christmas is to use your Elf on a Shelf. Those of you who are crafty can easily create a set of Mickey ears for your elf. If you are lacking in the creativity department, you can purchase the Mickey Mouse Mouseketeer Ear Hat Ornament or the Mickey Mouse Ears Hat Keychain from the Disney Store. All you have to do is remove the string/chain and pop it on your elf’s head. Set the elf out wherever you desire and the reveal is sure to be magical.

SheBuysTravel Tip : If you are giving the trip as a Christmas gift, consider waiting until January 1 to travel. The crowds in Walt Disney World and Disneyland are at an all-time high from Christmas morning through New Year’s Eve. In my opinion, this is the worst time (crowd-wise) to visit. Alternatively, visiting the first two weeks of December is an ideal time.

Personalized Puzzle Reveal

I was kicking myself for not thinking of this when I first read about it. This is such a simple thing to do. Find an image (or create one using Canva) that shows your Disney destination with the wording “Surprise! You’re going to Disney!”  (or something similar). Once you have the perfect image, visit www.portraitpuzzles.com and turn it into a puzzle. You can select different sizes from 15 to 1000 pieces which are specified for different age groups.

  • 15 pieces: Ages 2- 3
  • 48 pieces: Ages 3-5
  • 99 or 204 pieces: Ages 5-6
  • 252 or 300 pieces: Ages 7-9
  • 513, 720 or 1000 pieces: Ages 9-up

Puzzle prices range from $34.99 and higher, depending on the size. The process is very quick. It only takes 1-2 business days for your puzzle to be created and shipped. All you have to do is give the kids the puzzle and have them put it together for the reveal.

Disguise Vacation as a Work Trip

If you aren’t very good with packing suitcases and concealing them from the kids, consider this Disney surprise.  All you have to do is tell the kids you are going out of town on business and taking them with you. It doesn’t matter where you tell them you are going. If you don’t want to tell a fib, suggest you are going to stay in a hotel for a few days. This will work with the younger kids. Simply pack up the car, or hop on an airplane and go.

If you are flying and your children are older, you may want to consider revealing the surprise at the airport. Once they see the destination at the airport, your surprise may be over. We used the work trip surprise on our son when he was 9 and waited until we were on the plane to reveal.

If your children are little, you may be able to wait until you arrive at the parks. Whether you are heading to Anaheim, Orlando, Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa, or on a Disney Cruise, the surprise trip is always a great idea.

SheBuysTravel Tip :  Be careful you do not get the children too excited about the “work trip” destination. Too much hype could end up with disappointed children when they learn they aren’t going to visit the intended destination.

Surprise! You’re Going to Disney!

Now that you know some great ways to present the big surprise, I want to share with you some of our favorite surprise video reveals.

Where to Buy Discounted Disney Tickets

We recommend purchasing your Disney tickets through Get Away Today . Not only does the company have the lowest prices, it offers a best price guarantee. If you ever find park tickets cheaper, Get Away Today won’t just match the price, the company will beat it.

If you call to make your purchase be sure to mention SheBuysTravel!

Oh man this is amazing! I love the warning on younger kids because you wouldn’t think of that otherwise. I am def going to blast this on social media as I think MANY will value this post.

Thanks Krystel! Over the years I’ve had many different people ask me for advice on how to pull of a surprise. It seemed appropriate we write an article with our recommendations.

It is definitely hard to pull off a surprise. In the long run it is worth it to see their excitement.

I love this! We’ve tried to do surprise trips, but one of us always slips up or the kids nag us until we crack.

disneyland trip reveal ideas

Surprise we’re going to Disney World! Isn’t that something that we’d all love to say to our family and friends. If you’re looking for Disney trip reveal ideas to be able to surprise your family then read on.

When you book a Disney trip of any kind, there is always the question of do you keep it a secret from the kids or family members, or do you include them in the excitement.

We have come across many ways to surprise kids with a Disney trip over the past few years after becoming frequent visitors to Disney World. These Disney trip reveal ideas work well whether you’re visiting Walt Disney World , Disneyland Paris , or any of the other amazing Disney parks.

Why not check out these FREE Disney planning printables to plan your holiday.

For us personally, we have booked four trips to Walt Disney World. Two of these have been a surprise for our daughter, and two we decided to involve her in the planning.

Spell It Out

One of the popular ways to surprise kids with a Disney trip is to spell it out. Use magnetic letters on the fridge for the children to see when they enter the room. Or cut out paper letters and stick to the wall perhaps if magnetic letters aren’t an option.

Disney's Caribbean beach resort pool

Create The Moment In DVD

You could build up the suspense by having a Disney film afternoon and tell the kids at the end of a film that they are going to go and see their favourite character from their favourite film.

Treasure Hunt

Depending on the age of the children, you could create a Disney treasure hunt with simple clues around the house. The prize could be a soft toy of your child’s favourite Disney character with a note attached to them with the news of the holiday.

magic kingdom castle hub

Certificates

Of the great creative ways to surprise kids with a Disney trip is to design a letter or a certificate for your children. Choose your moment and present it to them when you want to share the news. If you’re writing a Disney trip reveal letter, you could even post it to your child direct.

All children love receiving their own post, and when it comes from their favourite Disney character it will be amazing.

Disney reveal balloon

Personalised Balloon

One of our Disney reveal ideas we used was a large box with some Disney inspired gifts inside. We also included a personalised balloon with a message to say we were going to Disney World.

You may be wondering how to make a Disney surprise box. Just find a box that’s big enough to hold the inflated balloon. Secure the balloon string in the base of the box, and decorate the outside. When the lid of the box opens, the balloon will float out.

Surprise You’re Going To Disney Pop Up Card

A pop up Disney inspired card is a great way to catch attention from people when you want that slow recognition on their faces that something big is happening.

pressed pennies in the shape of a Mickey head

I love this ideas for children especially as they take their time to read the message you have written inside the card. You may even decide to include a letter from Mickey Mouse.

Birthday Cake

One of our Disney trip reveals was added to a Birthday Cake. We used a personalised cake delivery company and added our own message saying, “Happy Birthday, you’re going to Disney World”.

It took our daughter a few seconds to realise there was a message on the cake when she blew out the candles, and it was so much fun watching her face as she realised what was happening.

Donald Duck at Hollywood and Vine

Disney Reveal Mickey and Minnie Balloons

Can you imagine walking into a room with large helium Mickey and Minnie Mouse balloons waiting for you. This would certainly get a great reaction. Large balloons would be perfect if you were planning your surprise Disney reveal in stages.

Would the kids realise that a Disney trip was happening if they saw balloons as part of the decoration?

I love light boxes and think they have so many fun opportunities for messages. A Light box would work really well with a surprise Disney trip ideas message added to it. Perhaps it could be left to see if the recipient of the surprise notices.

Photo Message

A photo message would be a lovely keep sake for a surprise Disney trip idea. It can be personalised to include what is special to you and your loved ones going on the Disney trip with you. Perhaps it could be hidden as the final prize in a Disney scavenger hunt.

Mickey Mouse in Magic Kingdom

When putting together a surprise Disney trip reveal box, I think tickets are a good thing to give. Often now, all tickets for Disney are linked on Magic Bands , or you collect them when you arrive, so it’s nice to give something physical. Tickets are also a great prize at the end of a scavenger hunt.

Everyone loves a new mug don’t they. I often take special personalised mugs to work to use at my desk. This way I get to remember the surprise Disney trip reveal memories every time I look at it.

A new mug with a message on it could also contain some special Disney merchandise such as new stationery, or chocolate to make a lovely gift.

Animal Kingdom Entrance

Disney Countdown Plaque

Last but not least on my reveal list of surprise Disney trip ideas is a countdown plaque. These are so much fun and can then be used for the remainder of the countdown getting all the family involved.

Advent Calendar

If you’re planning your Disney trip reveal on Christmas Day, why not create an Advent Calendar for the kids. You could include small Disney treats such as mini Lego figures, themed sweets and chocolates, stationery along with hints along the way.

On the 25th December, the big reveal can be behind the last door!

meeting joy and sadness at Epcot

That’s my list of surprise Disney trip ideas for revealing a Disney trip to your loved ones. Have you done a surprise trip announcement?

You could also put lots of the smaller ideas mentioned above together and create your own Disney reveal box. Imaging the kids faces when they open the box and start taking out the contents.

I love these ideas, the look on their faces when you surprise them is just priceless. It’s so hard to keep quiet though, I remember being busting for months to tell them we were going. I just need to get someone to surprise me with a trip now !

Ah I love all these ideas. We surprised ours the second time we went. We went in May so the Christmas before they both got a Disney box filled with all things Disney and a note telling them where we were going. Their faces were a picture x

  • Best Christmas Ever – Disney Trip Surprise Ideas

We're going to Disney Surprise Box

Want to win Christmas this year? Give your family a magical vacation to look forward to! Not only will they treasure the memories far longer than any toys, you can skip the shopping madness and actually enjoy the season!

If you’re going to surprise your kids with a trip, you’ll want to make a big production out of it to maximize the fun. There are so many great ways to reveal your gift. And lots of talented folks out there making resources to help if you’re time (or creativity) starved. Here are some of my favorites:

The Bum Rush

If you’re planning on leaving for vacation right away, and your kids are young enough – you might be able to keep the secret until you get to the airport, or even all the way to Florida. Popular ploys are “we’re keeping daddy company on a business trip,” or “we’re going to grandma’s”. But make sure they won’t be disappointed when they find out they aren’t going to the original location.

Surprise via gifts

There are so many travel related items that you could gift your kids like luggage , backpacks , water bottles , toiletries . You could have them open a series of items that are not necessarily Disney related, and see if they pick up on the theme. Then progress towards more specific and revealing clues like Disney shirts or Magic Bands .

The box-within-a-box technique is a lot of fun too. Wrap a series of boxes nested inside each other until they get to the surprise. Some ideas for the last box:

  • Helium Mickey balloons that float out
  • A letter from Mickey
  • “Tickets” to Disney World
  • A pop-up custom card
  • A character plush

Surprise by clues

If your kiddos are a little older, you might want to challenge them a bit and stretch out the anticipation by gamifying it. Give out little hints daily with an Advent Calendar. Or you could create a scavenger hunt (or buy one on Etsy), have a custom puzzle made, or play a game like hangman, Pictionary or charades with the answer “We’re Going to Disney.” Examples below from Etsy:

More subtle Hints

With teens, it might be fun to get a little sneakier. Slip in some clues and see how long it takes them to catch on. Mickey shaped pancakes for breakfast, a message written in chapstick on the bathroom mirror (they’ll see when the shower steams up the room), or don some custom tees, and keep them concealed under your bathrobes until just the right moment.

Disney Reveal Box Ideas

We recently visited Disneyland Paris and OMG do I have the Disney blues!  So I decided to write about the Disney reveal box I created for the kids, as they had no clue about out trip!  We booked the trip about 6 months ago, and decided to keep it a secret from the kids!! It was so hard to not tell them, especially in the lead up as of all the last minute planning.

Instead of just telling them, I wanted to make a reveal box for them.  I didn’t want to spend a fortune, but I wanted it to be full of Disney goodies and Disney related items!  I had a cardboard box that I decided to wrap up half in Disney Princess Paper for W and Spiderman for B and Baby K.  It was really hard to wrap but I did the best I could – I really don’t think the kids cared to much about my wrapping.  At the bottom of the box, I printed several pieces of paper which I stuck down which read

We are going to Disneyland Paris….TODAY!!!

Our disney reveal box for the kids

I then packed the box with Disney inspired gifts.  Here is what I included and where from!

Disney Reveal Box item list

  • 3 sets of PJ’s.  They needed some new PJ’s anyway so this was perfect for them to wear on our trip.  I ordered Star Wars for B, Minnie Mouse for W and Mickey Mouse for Baby K all from Amazon.

3 sets of PJ's for our Disney reveal box

  • I then found some Disney snacks for Baby K (and which I though the other two would eat too!) I brought packs of biscuits and fruit bake bars and these were from the Pound Shop.  And obvs were £1 each.  We always take snack bags which I prepare before we go on our Disney trips , so this was a perfect addition to the Disney reveal box and to take with us too!

disney snacks from poundland mini biscuits and fruity bake bars

  • I wanted to include something that we could play during our journey.  So I found Disney Top Trumps which I knew we could all play together (bar Baby K who would throw the cards everywhere!)  Again, I purchased from Amazon.

Disney Top Trumps game was included in our Disney reveal box to play on our journey to Disneyland paris

  • Ok, so this may be a little weird on.  But I brought the older two Disney electric tooth brushes .  Both needed new toothbrushes and when I saw them (again on Amazon!) for half the price as I saw them at Asda, I brought them.  W’s is Frozen themed and B’s is Star Wars.  Both were really impressed with them and now happily brush their teeth!!

Disney inspired toothbrushes to use at Disneyland paris

  • Again from Poundland, I found these Disney themed bubble bath and wash sets.  I didn’t get any for Baby K just because he is that bit younger and has more sensitive skin.  But I couldn’t resist when I saw the Disney Princess bubble bath and Marvel wash set.  At £1, these were a bargain!  We took these on our trip to use, which the kids loved!

  • For W, I brought her a new Minnie Mouse tracksuit to be included in the Disney reveal box.  I also brought Baby K a new Mickey Mouse T-shirt and as B needed a new coat, I also included that in the box.  Although it wasn’t Disney, I knew he would totally appreciate it and think it was cool!  So I just saved it for the box instead of giving it to him.  I think it’s a nice idea to include a piece of clothing, whether it be a personalised Tee, or matching hoodies! W’s tracksuit was from Asda .

W's Minne Mouse tracksuit included in the Disney reveal box

  • I also included a couple of the activity booklets that Magic Breaks offer to you when you book through them.  If you happen to not book through Magic breaks, I am sure you could make up your own activity sheets to include in your own Disney reveal box.  There were great for the journey down as it included colouring sheets, crosswords and different games.

Magic breaks disney activity booklets

  • Finally, I included a pair of Minnie Ears that Willow already owned and two Disneyland Paris park maps which I was kindly sent from a member of a Disneyland Paris advice group on Facebook – thank you!

Are you thinking of making up a Disney reveal box?  What would you include?  I hope I have offered some inspiration to create one on a budget!

Disney Travel FAQs

You could totally create a surprise Disney trip scavenger hunt with clues having to do with Florida. Clues could be a map of Orlando, a Florida guidebook, glitter for pixie dust, and the final clue could be a little Mickey plush toy.

Walt Disney World is MASSIVE, which is why I recommend starting with Disneyland. However, you’ll probably want to visit the park that is geographically closer to where you live. This will make it cheaper. You might also check out which attractions you’re most interested in and figure out which park has them.

That’s a great question! One of the easiest ways to save money on a Disney trip is to travel in the off-season (when school is in session). That’s when you can get the best deals on Disney hotels. Otherwise, you can bring in your own food, find hotels that offer free breakfast, and get some Disney souvenirs on sale before your trip.

Surprise Disney Trip Reveal Ideas

If you’re looking for a way to make this Christmas one everybody will remember, take them on an unforgettable trip through Disney World or Disneyland.

Whether it’s their first time ever stepping foot into these parks and resorts in Florida or California–or if family members are frequent visitors themselves- there is plenty of fun ahead!

I have put together some ideas below (and links) so that you can start coming up with the perfect plan for surprising kids with a Disney trip.

Here are some ideas to help you surprise your family with a fabulous trip to Disney World or Disneyland this Christmas.

disneyland trip reveal ideas

Wrap a large box with plenty of tissue paper to dig through and place this “ We’re going to Disney ” sign in the box.

You can even print the sign out for each person and have them unwrap their big gift all at the same time!

And if you’ve already planned the trip, then print out an optional copy of their itinerary so they know what’s coming next.

disneyland trip reveal ideas

Print out the Disney “ tickets ” for each person and put them in their stockings as a special surprise. These tickets come with Disneyland or Disney World already printed on them, so they are perfect for both theme parks.

disneyland trip reveal ideas

Print out this letter from Mickey Mouse , roll it up and tie a pretty Christmas ribbon around it and hide it in the Christmas tree for a fun game of hot or cold. You could even “discover” it and have the kids read it to the family while you record the special moment.

Or you could give everyone in your family these printable Disney letters and tell them to open them at the same time.

disneyland trip reveal ideas

A gift bag filled with Disney-themed items for your trip like a water bottle, t-shirt, Mickey or Minnie ears with a printout of the letter, tickets, or sign is also a great way to announce the trip.

Give everyone in your family a Disney suitcase as a Christmas present. You could even fill it with matching family Disney shirts, coupons for everyone to pick a few attractions to add to the itinerary or Disney autograph books.

I hope these surprise Disney trip ideas have inspired you. No matter how you use this Disney vacation announcement printable, it’s sure to be a magical experience!

14 Ideas for Doing a Disney World Trip Reveal Surprise

14 Ideas on how to surprise someone with a Disney World trip reveal

So you’ve booked a trip to Disney World and now it’s time to share the news with your family! Do you want to do a special surprise Disney World trip reveal so that you can capture their reactions?

This is quite common with Disney World trips and they often make for some of the best videos. Who doesn’t love watching someone scream with joy or cry happy tears when they realize their dream trip is about to become a reality?

Here are some of my favourite ideas I have seen when doing a surprise Disney World trip reveal:

Mickey Balloons

This one works best if you are revealing the trip as part of a gift. It involves wrapping up a large box filled with some balloons, and some added magic is if the balloons are Mickey themed. When your family opens up the Disney World surprise box, the balloons will come flying out and you can include a message in the box (or attached to the string of the balloons) that says “You’re Going to Disney World!”

Scavenger Hunt

This one involves a bit more planning and preparation, but the result is super fun. You create a bunch of clues to lead them on a scavenger hunt and hide them throughout your house.

The kids often get so wrapped up in the fun of the game, that they don’t even realize that there may be a big surprise at the end. The treasure at the end is so worth it and will get some great reactions!

Reveal It When You Hit the Gates (Road Trip)

If you are driving to Disney World, then you can certainly pull this surprise off if your children are young. You tell them you are going somewhere else and then hit the road for Florida.

If they are young enough, they won’t pay attention to the road signs and will be unaware of where you are going. Once you are about to enter the Disney World property, now it is time to get them ready for your surprise trip reveal. Tell them to pay attention and look out the window. The Disney World gates are hard to miss and they’ll get pretty excited once they spot them.

Fake Airport Drop-Off

This surprise is for parents that are really good and covert at keeping secrets. You’ll need to keep the trip a secret from them until the last minute and also manage to pack all their stuff without them noticing. You disguise your trip to the airport as a drop-off for one of the parents for a business trip, but then you let them all in on the surprise!

Play a Fun Family Game

disneyland trip reveal ideas

Jigsaw Puzzle

Do you have a kid or loved one that loves puzzles? Time to get creative and design a special puzzle made just for them! You can create your own design for your puzzle for free on Canva.com .

Once you have your image created with the message “You’re Going to Disney World!” on it, you can upload it to a puzzle making service. You could use a site such as  www.createjigsawpuzzles.com  or Vistaprint . Then, once you receive it, give it to the one you are surprising and watch them piece it together.

Advent Calendar Surprise

Are advent calendars a big hit in your house during the month of December? Why not make your own and customize the contents? Make a homemade advent calendar and provide the kids with little hints throughout the month leading up to Christmas. You can then have the big reveal inside the day of the 25th which will make for a fun Christmas morning!

Gift Them Their Magic Bands and Disney Goodies

disneyland trip reveal ideas

Early Morning Surprise

Give them a reason to jump out of bed! If you have an early morning departure, keep the secret up until the very last minute. Wake them up when it’s time to go with their bags all packed and ready to go.

They’ll wake up feeling like they are in a dream and you will surely have no trouble getting them out of bed once you let them know where you are going!

Mail Them a Letter

Kids love getting mail. What better way to surprise them with a letter from their favourite Mouse! Send them a letter and then have them open it and read it aloud. You can find a Disney World surprise letter template online like this one from mommytravels.net.

Disney Mad Libs

Mad libs are a fun game where you have to fill in the blanks of a story before you read it aloud. Here is an example of a printable you can use to announce your trip. Have your child give you some answers for the blank sections and then give the completed story to them to read.

Organize a Disney Breakfast

Trick Them!

There are so many ways you can trick your kids and surprise them with a Disney vacation, but I really like how this mom orchestrated this one:

Box in a Box in a Box in a Box…..

This one is great if the surprise is a birthday gift. Make them work for it and wrap up several boxes in to each other making them go through several layers until they get to the very end. You could make the reveal their MagicBand or perhaps a letter saying “You’re going to Disney World!”. It makes for a really fun game and the anticipation really builds up as they open each layer.

We got plush Mickey and Minnie head easter baskets. We put in Disney shirts, their Magic bands, sunblock, a handheld fan/misting bottle, beach towels, goggles and Mickey shaped goldfish crackers. Gave them to our girls and asked them to figure out the surprise.

We have never surprised our kids with a trip to Disney, but we have surprised my best friends daughter(also my daughters best friend) and our kids that my friend and her daughter were going with us on our trip last summer. I made a video at MAgic Kingdom a couple months before her birthday and for her birthday showed the video to her and my kids to reveal that they were coming with us to Disney World. My kids knew about the trip but not that our friends were joining us. I’m planning to surprise them for our spring break trip this coming year. Hoping I can hold out until it time to wake them for the drive to the airport.

Disney Scavenger Hunt – Awesome Vacation Surprise for Kids [Printable Clues]

By: Author Kim Tate

Posted on Published: December 19, 2017

Our family is planning a trip to Disney World and I’ve considered surprising them with the trip! I’ve heard of families doing this, so I decided to put together another one of my fun scavenger hunts . This Disney scavenger hunt has clues that will lead kids around to a final announcement of a Disney vacation!

If you want to set up your scavenger hunt like I have you’ll need a few supplies: (some links are affiliate / commission links)

Disney Scavenger Hunt Supplies

  • paper mache boxes
  • craft paint (I used metallic red , matte black, and white pearl metallic )
  • foam brushes

disneyland trip reveal ideas

Disney scavenger hunt for kids – clues and boxes © Stuffed Suitcase

To help prime the paper mache for the paint I first spray painted them with a basic white spray paint. Then I started painting the boxes with the red, white, and black. I did about three coats to get them looking nice and bright and colorful. The red almost looks pink if you don’t layer up coats.

Disney Scavenger Hunt Clues

Next step is to print out the Disney scavenger hunt clues . I’ve written six clues, which I feel makes for a fun hunt. You’ll want to organize the clues to lead to each other. I wrote the final clue to lead to a suitcase. You can organize and plan how to best arrange the other ones yourself.

As you can see the clues will lead to: a clock, freezer, shoe, bathtub, tea/mug cabinet, suitcase. Again I recommend you save the suitcase for the final announcement spot!
