Blues Traveler is an American rock, blues and jam band, formed by John Popper and Brendan Hill in 1987, from Princeton, New Jersey, U.S.

Originally formed under the moniker The Establishment by harmonicist, singer and guitarist John Popper and drummer Brendan Lee, the band’s earliest releases were in the form of cassette tapes featuring original songs as well as covers, including Van Morrison’s “Gloria". The band began jamming regularly and building a repertoire of songs before moving to New York City and performing on the club circuit, soon making a name for themselves as relentless live performers.

With a line-up consisting of Popper, Lee, guitarist Chan Kinchla, and bassist Bobby Sheehan, the band signed with A&M Records who released their self-titled debut album in 1990, and their subsequent album “Travelers & Thieves” in 1991. Following a dangerous motorcycle accident lead-man Popper was unable to perform for a number of months, however returned to release the band’s third studio album, aptly named “Save His Soul”.

The band’s fourth full-length “Four” in 1994 represented a mainstream breakthrough for Blues Traveler, despite poor sales to begin with. The 1995 Grammy Award winning single “Run-Around”, taken from the album, became one of the year’s most popular and best-selling singles and catapulted the album “Four” to popularity. Following the release the band played ’94’s Woodstock Festival and opened for the Rolling Stones. In an attempt to capture the magic of the band’s live performances they release the double album “Live from the Fall” in 1996, followed by their fifth full-length “Straight on Till Morning” in 1997.

In 1999 bassist Bobby Sheehan was found dead in his home with cocaine, Valium and heroin in his system, deemed an accidental suicide, he was eventually replaced by Kinchla’s younger brother Tad. Along with new keyboardist Ben Wilson, Blues Traveler released an EP entitled “Decisions of the Sky: A Traveler’s Tale of Sun and Storm”, followed by their sixth full-length “Bridge” in 2001.

With a move away from A&M to Sanctuary Records, the band released “Truth Be Told” in 2003, followed by another live album “Live on the Rocks” the year after. Blues Traveler subsequently released the Jay-Bennett-produced “Bastardos!” in 2005, a cover album of their own songs “Cover Yourself” in 2007, “North Hollywood Shootout” on the label Verve Forecast, and the group’s 11th studio album “Suzie Crack the Whip” in June 2012.

Live reviews

If you like the blues, chances are you’re gonna like Blues Traveler- and if you’ve never heard frontman John Popper’s second-to-none harmonica-playing skills before, prepare to be blown away.

The band formed in the early 1990s, along with the wave of Grateful Dead-esuqe jam bands like Phish and Widespread Panic, and have been playing the blues and, erm, travelling (back in the day they gained a reputation for non-stop tour schedules), ever since. Their blend of psychedelic rock, old-school blues and habitual improvised on-stage jamming makes their shows something continually unique, even with their playing nightly for months at a time.

Blues Traveler have made an annual occurrence of playing at the beautiful and iconic venue, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, for the last 20-odd years, and this was were I caught the travelin’ band of Princeton blues rockers a couple of years back. They played amidst fireworks (!), and their close to 2 hour set consisted of solid classics like ‘Save His Soul’ (a rarity in their current live set), and the foot-stomping ‘Love Of My Life’, for which Popper traded his harmonica for guitar. The highlight though, had to be the band’s spectacular opener, a raucous cover of Jimi Hendrix’s unforgettable version of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’. This was a uniquely awesome show in a venue to match, and Blues Traveler are still doing what they do best, even two decades on.

Blues Traveler are one jam band that I actually like. I saw them at H.O.R.D.E. Fest a few times back in the day and they were always awesome. In 2013, they performed Save His Soul in its entirety to celebrate the 20th anniversary of that album, and again, they were awesome. Last year they were also very good, but I just couldn’t get into their collaborative selections with 3OH!3. Unfortunately, it seems they have gone even further down that electronic/jam/hip-hop fusion road over the past year. The show started out great, with “Things Are Looking Up” followed by “Dropping Some NYC” and “But Anyway”, but then control was handed over to Rome Ramirez. I like Rome, but I found it strange that Popper was taking a step back from his own show. “Run-Around” put the train back on its track for a minute, but then it was time for another collaboration with Hanson…as if we hadn’t had enough of them. Covering “What I Got” with Rome provided a good taste of what’s to come at Reggae on the Rocks this year, but again, wasn’t this a Blues Traveler show? - See more at: http://ilistensoyoudonthaveto.com/2015/07/06/4th-of-july-red-rocks-07-04-15/#sthash.9PBpEXKt.dpuf

Blues Traveler, the name is a great clue to the kinds of music they make, traditional blues with a wonderfully free spirited vibe. Although the genre of Blues is very much at the core of what the band does, there is influence from the genres of psychedelica, rock, folk and soul.

A band unmatched in musical passion, having toured their discography for over twenty years they appear to get better with every single show. Classic tracks such as 'Hook' have been re-imagined and developed to include more complex instrumental and is delivered in a generally more sincere manner. The crowd watches on in almost complete silence whilst the band works onstage and only make themselves heard to cheer loudly at the closure of each track.

By the time the band performs 'But Anyway' every musician onstage is quietly prepared to perform to their extreme for the audience and use all of their musical ability that is required for this folk heavy piece of Blues. Blues Traveler are very much an act who's values and processes do not appear to have changed in their 25 year career span.

Excellent show. Brothers Keeper were the supporting band - John Popper sat in with Brothers Keeper on their last number, before he came on with Blues Traveler. After the concert, we went into the Downtown Saloon where a local blues band were playing. When they finished, John Popper and Brothers Keeper got up and gave an impromptu concert in the pub! Brilliant! We had come to Leesburg from the UK to hear Blues Traveler - When We told John that he bought us a drink! Great guy!

The band was amazing!!! The venue was cool because its small and intimate. Good sound. The only complaint was the assholes that attended. Some of the audience were disrespectful and obnoxious...which happens at concerts, but this took the cake. Maybe because its Reno?

A very nice show but too few songs of the past. It was nice they played stuff from their up-coming album, but there's nothing better then the good ole rock and roll. It was a good night except for the security personnel who were a little too pushy.

They put on a great show, lots of fun great music. The bass player is one of the best I have seen. John Popper just gets better with time. I can't wait to see them again.

The crowd was up moving and singing with them.

John Popper on 30 years of Blues Traveler and heading out solo

The band, which has played with guitar virtuoso Carlos Santana and opened for the Rolling Stones, comes to Seattle on Sunday, Nov. 12.

Share story

Several decades ago, Blues Traveler was among the new generation of young jam bands following in the mighty footsteps of the Grateful Dead. As Blues Traveler celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, frontman John Popper wonders where the time has gone.

“It’s pretty amazing,” says the singer-songwriter and harmonica player, calling from the road. “We can’t believe we’ve gotten to this point.”

Popper, 50, says he’s learned a few life lessons while traveling the long musical road.

“There’s a certain kind of confidence that comes with being older that you can’t fake when you’re young,” he says. “I remember opening for the Neville Brothers when we were in our 20s. Art Neville played only a cowbell. We were amazed how he stood there and ran the room with this little piece of percussion. He had this authority that we — being young — just couldn’t fake.”

Now a music veteran himself, Popper has been busy marking his band’s anniversary with several projects. Blues Traveler has been on the road all summer on a tour that will continue through part of the fall and winter. The tour stops in Seattle on Sunday, Nov. 12. The band is currently finishing a new record that will release in 2018.

“The album is so new we haven’t even decided on a definitive title yet,” he laughs.

Popper is also performing a number of solo dates. These stripped-down performances give him the opportunity to explore a wide range of material in a quieter setting. He’ll be accompanied by his bandmate Ben Wilson on piano and backing vocals.

“It’s really exciting,” Popper says. “This is something Ben and I have always wanted to do.”

The idea for the smaller shows first occurred when the band was finishing up its 2012 album “Suzie Cracks the Whip.” One of the songs, “Cara Let the Moon,” was a spare, bittersweet ballad that featured Popper’s soulful voice accompanied only by stately piano chords. The number was a muted departure from the band’s trademark punchy blues-rock.

“I call it my torch song,” Popper says about the tune. “There are a bunch of songs I’ve written through the years that sound really good that way. Getting to go through the entire history of all the songs — and encapsulate that 30 years into a solo show — is really a treat. That’s the fun part of it for me.”

Popper feels he has now accrued the maturity and seasoning to interpret his own material in fresh new ways.

“If it was 20 or 25 years ago, I don’t think I could do this solo performance that I’m doing now,” he says. “I needed to have perspective.”

Popper was a teenager when he formed Blues Traveler in the late 1980s in his parents’ garage in Princeton, New Jersey. Not long after that, he and several bandmates moved to New York for college and studied music at the New School in Manhattan.

The young Popper and his bandmates also started playing music at local open-mic nights. They soon met people in the blues scene, including vocalist Joan Osborne and guitarist Johnny Allen. For the members of Blues Traveler, it was a heady time split between learning from esteemed faculty in the classroom and jamming with up-and-coming musicians in the clubs.

“By day we were in this program at the New School with the best jazz musicians in New York showing us their secrets and teaching us the aesthetics of playing,” Popper recalls. “At night, we would go out to these clubs and learn how to play live music, get people dancing and sell booze.”

Blues Traveler was soon working steadily and playing gigs at blues venues, restaurants and campus fraternities. They were also developing a grass-roots base of devoted fans.

“The way we got our audience was very organic,” Popper says. “A lot of our friends were going to school at the same time. Some of them were social chairmen and chairwomen in charge of parties and they would hire us to play. Ten years later, these same people would hire us to play work functions. So we always had that work.”

Blues Traveler’s early success “was very word of mouth,” he continues. “We let people tape our shows and share those tapes because we felt our live performances were for the people. We took a very Grateful Dead attitude toward that.”

The band signed to the A&M Records label in 1990. Their 1994 breakthrough album “Four” yielded the hits “Run-Around” and “Hook.” The jam band found a big fan in late-night talk-show king David Letterman and became a recurring musical guest on his television show.

Over time, Blues Traveler found itself collaborating and sharing stages with some of the biggest names in music. The band played with guitar virtuoso Carlos Santana and opened for the Rolling Stones.

Popper and his bandmates founded the H.O.R.D.E. Festival in 1992. An acronym that stands for “Horizons of Rock Developing Everywhere,” the rootsy multi-artist summer tour featured legendary heavy-hitters like Neil Young and popular young jam bands Phish and Spin Doctors.

As a long-running frontman, Popper pulls double-duty as both a vocalist and harmonica player. That’s a lot of physical wear and tear on the throat. Over the years, he’s learned to adapt to the changes that come with aging.

“When I was young, I used to shriek a note and sing completely incorrectly, but I could hold a note because I had so much power in my lungs,” he says. “A person’s physical ability changes as they get older. Now I have a lot of technique, but a lot less power. That’s why (my style) lends itself to a nice acoustic performance.”

He’s enjoying the intimate audience experience that comes with a solo show. It allows for a change of pace from his hard-charging gigs with Blues Traveler.

“You see so many people (at band shows), it can get overwhelming and distancing,” he says. “That’s what’s great about the solo shows — there is a direct relationship with the audience again. I really love that.”

John Popper Interview: Blues Traveler Frontman Talks New Album, "Hurry Up & Hang Around"

Written by Marc Parker and Melissa Benefield Parker , Posted in Interviews Musicians

John Popper

John Popper is a founding member of Blues Traveler, serving as the band’s frontman with lead vocals and harmonica. They are known for such hits as “Run Around,” “Hook,” “But Anyway” and “The Mountains Win Again.” Other current band members are Chan Kinchla, Tad Kinchla, Ben Wilson and Brendan Hill. Bobby Sheehan, a co-founder of Blues Traveler, passed away in 1999.

In 1999, Popper released a solo album titled Zygote , and he has performed with Dolly Parton, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Paul Shaffer, Metallica, Cee-Lo Green and the Dave Matthews Band, just to name a few, on vocals and harmonica. Blues Traveler’s latest album, Hurry Up & Hang Around , is slated for release October 12, 2018. Popper is on solo acoustic tour in September, and Blues Traveler will be touring in October and November of this year.

"Throughout this entire process, we had nobody to hang onto but ourselves, but we pulled together. Dang if we didn’t write a really good album."

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : John, how’s the tour going?

John Popper : It’s going pretty good. I fell down some stairs a few weeks ago and broke my shoulder, so that’s kind of annoying. A broken shoulder’s never fun, but apparently, I can work. I can sing and play. As long as I don’t do any of my world famous choreography, I ought to be fine. Yep. No cartwheels. None of my backflips. The bus ride is the worst. You bounce all over the place.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : What was going on at the time you decided to write new music?

John Popper : It was our 30 th year as a band, so we knew we wanted to make a record for that. I’m always fond of saying it’s in the “being-in-a-band” handbook. You know, it’s in the union bylaws. So we wanted to make an album, but we were so late because we were dealing with a previous manager, and it rolled around. It was 2017, and here we are as a band. We’re 30 years old, and we had no logistical setup or plan to make this record.

So we got another manager in a hurry, and he lasted about three months before he couldn’t take it anymore. He was our manager long enough to get us set up in a house where we writing what became this album. We were also auditioning new management, and that’s where we met Jeff Castelaz and his people. Throughout this entire process, we had nobody to hang onto but ourselves, but we pulled together. Dang if we didn’t write a really good album.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Yes. It’s some really great music.

John Popper : Oh, thank you.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Some of the songs were previously written before  you worked on this album?

John Popper : Well, yeah, there’s a couple. I think we were saving some of our good stuff because the album before was a collaboration album with various artists, so we couldn’t just bust out our own songs. We had to write songs fresh with somebody . We did stuff with Jewel, Bowling for Soup and Plain White T’s, just a bunch of different bands. You wanted to go into each song fresh and write a song with that person. We couldn’t use songs that we’d been writing and had on us, so the best ones of those wound up getting saved for this album.

For me, it was one song in particular, which was “Ode From the Aspect,” that I wrote in 2013. That’s a song with just me and a keyboard, and I sort of felt like I owed the crowd that song. Some of them were bits and pieces of lyrics or song parts we were saving, then we’d get together and fuse them together with the other song parts that the other guys had.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : How did “Accelerated Nation” come about?

John Popper : That is an example of a song by Chan Kinchla. He had a great guitar riff, and he sewed it together. He got with the guys, and we whipped that into a song. I had a few lyrics that led me to finish the lyrics that fit to that. That’s how that song came to be.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : One of my favorites is “She Becomes My Way.

John Popper : Oh, yeah. That one was my wife straight up asking me, “How come you haven’t written a song for me yet?” (laughs) So that puts the pressure on when somebody’s  demanding  a song. But luckily, I had the idea, so it just came like that. That was me trying to do my best Jackson Browne.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : You answered her “demand” quite well (laughs). I heard a tinge of gospel in the song. In fact, the entire album is a mixture of sounds from rock to soul and blues.

John Popper : Well, thank you. I think a lot of it had to do with us going with Rollings. Matt Rollings is such a great producer, and he has that gospel aspect in him and knows how to bring that out of us, what gospel we have and what blues we have. He made us reach out rom beyond what we’re used to out of our comfort zones. But there’s such great harmony to him. He really made us come up with stuff that had stability to it but was also really new for us. We got really lucky that we got a hold of him.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : “Daddy Went a Giggin” sounds like a takeoff on “Frog Went A- Courting,” the old folk song.

John Popper : Yes. It was intentional. I think I even said, “Sword and pistol by his side,” at one point. There was a point to that. I was trying to do that. Yeah. I was trying to make it sort of like a lullaby for my daughter.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Is she three now?

John Popper : Two and a half.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Does she listen to daddy’s music?

John Popper : Oh, yeah. She likes it. I’m not her favorite though. I think her favorite is “Got My Mind Set on You,” by George Harrison. It seems to be her favorite these days.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : She has good taste.

John Popper : Oh, yeah. And Steve-O. She loves Steve-O, too.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : You had an early interest in becoming a comedian?

John Popper : Yeah. I always wanted to be a comedian, but I’m not quite funny enough. I’m just funny enough to know I’m not funny.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Why did you pick the harmonica?

John Popper : It sort of picked me. It was the Blues Brothers on Saturday Night Live , so I got fascinated by that instrument. I had played a bunch of instruments before and had to sit there and practice. Whereas, the harmonica came really easy for me.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Maga zine) : So it just came natural, and you never needed to practice?

John Popper : Both. The first day, I could play songs on it. I played almost immediately. I would sit in my basement with the TV at half volume and just play until I got tired, watched TV and played some more. I must’ve spent years doing that. So it was both.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : I play the piano, so how long would it take for you to teach me the harmonica?

John Popper : It would be pretty quick. Exhale, you get a C major chord. You inhale and get a G dominant chord. Right there, you’re already kind of laying out what sound you have to work with. Inhaling and exhaling, you can get scales out of that. It’s a cross between a piano and an auto harp.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : At what point, did you feel that Blues Traveler had “made it” in the music business?

John Popper : (laughs) I’m still not entirely certain we have.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Okay. Very funny. I believe that you have made it (laughs).

John Popper : I’ll take your word for it (laughs). There are two times I can remember specifically. When we were doing the H.O.R.D.E. tour, and after the gig was over, we went to a local Burger King and they were out of food. That meant we’d brought enough people in to the town to come see the show that we wore out the local fast food joint. That’s definitely a sign that we were doing something right. The other time is when you get a gold record or something you can show your parents. You can say, “Look. I have a job.” They can’t argue with you because it’s official.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Were your parents supportive of your music career?

John Popper : Oh, very. All of our parents were supportive of all of us in the band. They wanted us to go to school, so they basically said, “If you go to school, we’ll support you. If you want to do this band, you have to get a job.” So we all just pretended to go to school, then skipped school, and that’s how we supported ourselves in the early days. As soon as we were paying our rent, we all quit school. The idea was to try and avoid actual work as much as possible.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Do you still feel that rush of excitement performing live as you did 30 years ago?

John Popper : Yeah. You get addicted to the terror of it. I always have this fantasy that I’m gonna walk out there and just urinate, forget how to speak English, fall on the floor and go fetal. But it never happens. But that’s what gets me out there, like you want something disastrous to happen.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Really?

John Popper : Well, in a way. It’s like you’re daring it to happen. But it never really does. I’ve had nights where it has gone horribly wrong, but it’s never as bad as you think. But in your mind, it’s the worst thing that could possibly happen at the time. You’re like, “Oh, my God, what could happen now? I could forget all the words.” I’ve had nights where I’ve forgotten all the words.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Was Gregg Allman a great influence on you?

John Popper : On all of us. He taught us a lot. He was a sweetheart if you caught him at the right time of day. I think overall he was a sweetheart. But, yeah, Gregg was complicated.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Who do you listen to?

John Popper : I like Tom Waits. I like Jimi Hendrix. It’s hard to stray from the Beatles. They’re kind of perfection. Lucinda Williams. There you go. I like Brandi Carlile. I like singer-songwriter stuff. Growing up, I was all  about the instruments, John Coltrane and Hendrix. That was all about the discipline of that. But it all stemmed from the Blues Brothers. That led me to Paul Butterfield. Somebody said Dan Aykroyd sounded like Paul Butterfield. Butterfield led me to Elmore James, and then I found Jimi Hendrix. From that point, everything was open. All possibilities were available.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : About your political views, I’ve read that you call yourself a libertarian.

John Popper : Well, yeah. Ron Paul was running for president a couple of years back, and I went to that. But it’s still just a mob of people who are angry at everybody else (laughs). So I tend to shy away from politics a bit now. I think I’m real suspicious of any group that says, “We know what we’re doing.”

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : You’ve had some rather colorful experiences on Twitter.

John Popper : (laughs) Yeah.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : Do you like  social media?

John Popper : I think Facebook’s where I actually get to be me, and Twitter’s where you go to fight somebody. Twitter’s like a weird schoolyard where you’ve got to throw your belt at somebody. And I don’t know why that is. But if you say anything or take any position of any kind, somebody will be very  angry at you.

I think the sport for people on Twitter is to be angry at people they know. They want to build you up. They want to tear you down. That’s what they always say show business is, but it happens over and over again on Twitter so fast that you just kind of hold still and it’ll be back around (laughs). You’ll be popular and hated in another five minutes.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : What do you see in the future for Blues Traveler?

John Popper : Well, being Blues Traveler, we’re kind of who we are. So in a sense, we just celebrate that and grow as a band and as a family and keep finding new ways to express that. But I’m also going to go do solo stuff and see what I can do there. Basically, Blues Traveler is a base of operations. And from there, you go out and find new stuff, and you bring it back to the band.

Melissa Parker ( Smashing Interviews Magazine ) : In addition to the Blues Traveler shows, you are also touring solo?

John Popper : Yeah. That’s me with the piano kind of singing songs torch style. It’s some new stuff and some old stuff. It’s actually a pretty fun show because I get to talk more to the audience. I get to be a little funnier. I’m not quite a comedian, but it’s a fun show.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
