Review for a Bahamas Cruise on Anthem of the Seas

Having been to Port Canaveral we just decided to take the Disney Bus Transportation to and from the Ticket and Transportation Center. It was a 1 hour ride, we were not going to any parks as the 5 hours there would be wasted waiting on lines. Instead we chose to Resort hop. A 10 min walk to the Polynesian, monorail to The Floridan, walk to the main Magic Kingdom entrance the a walk to the ... Read More

Review for a Bahamas Cruise on MSC Meraviglia

Port Canaveral has the Kennedy space center which if you can book that it's a really good time. There are also Manatee excursions and other excursions as well. We had a rental car and could have managed that better. I dropped four off at the shop and two were meeting us separately. We were some of the last to board. Disney Magic

The 2,713-passenger Disney Magic is the oldest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet (it first launched in 1998). It was last refurbished in May 2023, when it received updates like a "Soul"-themed lounge, concierge-level upgrades and a new "Encanto" live show. The ship also features family favorites such as the AquaDuck waterslide, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique dress-up shop and Edge, an interactive game center for tweens.

Disney Magic features diverse entertainment, including live shows, an open-air Wide World of Sports deck, three pools and a splash area for children younger than 3. Unique to the Magic is the teens-only Chill Spa. When it comes to dining, the ship offers eight eateries, including an adults-only specialty restaurant and buffet options. Recent cruisers gave the food quality mixed reviews.

In terms of lodging, 70% of cabins offer ocean views or verandas. All cabins are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, sitting areas and bathrooms with separate showers and tubs. Suites include extra perks such as concierge service and media libraries. Past cruisers noted that the service on this ship is up to Disney's standards, but so is the price tag.

Disney Magic sails from Galveston, Texas ;  San Diego ;  Miami ; Fort Lauderdale, Florida ;  New Orleans ; and  San Juan, Puerto Rico . It visits destinations across the Bahamas , the Caribbean, Mexico and the Panama Canal.

U.S. News Insider Tip : Once per sailing, guests are invited to watch Tangled: The Musical in the Walt Disney Theater. This Broadway-style show retells the story of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider with three new original songs, puppets, and beautiful costumes. This show is very popular, so it's best to get to the theater about an hour before the show starts to get a good seat. Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime. – Megan duBois, Contributor

Staterooms are designed with families in mind. Inside cabins can accommodate up to four guests, and over 85% of the ship's cabins have an ocean view or a veranda. All cabins are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, minifridges and iPod docking stations.

Onboard entertainment is just as family-oriented, with Goofy’s Sports Deck activity center, a virtual sports simulator (for an extra fee), nightly live performances and 3D movies. While younger guests play in age-appropriate youth clubs, adults can relax at the Quiet Cove Pool or enjoy an evening at an adults-only bar or lounge.

Disney Wish

The fifth Disney Cruise Line ship, Disney Wish made its maiden voyage in July 2022. The 4,000-passenger and 1,555-crew-member ship features the first Disney attraction at sea – AquaMouse – which takes thrill-seekers through 760 feet of water tubes high above the cruise deck.

Family-friendly cabin options include Concierge, Verandah, Oceanview and Inside staterooms. Rooms feature a 43-inch flat-screen TV, ample closet space and individual climate control. For fun, kids can head to Hero Zone recreation space (inspired by the movie "The Incredibles"), Vibe (an exclusive teen space) or the onboard nursery. Guests loved the variety of kid-friendly activities.

For adults, there are retail shops, spas, bars, live entertainment and 10 pools and water play areas – including the adults-only Quiet Cove Pool. A welcome escape among older cruisers, some passengers wished the adults-only spaces were bigger.

When it comes to food, travelers can enjoy California cuisine at 1923, French cuisine at the adults-only Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement or steak at the adults-only Palo Steakhouse. The ship also has interactive dining experiences based on several Disney films. Feast at the first Frozen-themed theatrical dining – Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure and enjoy Norwegian-inspired cuisine. Or, explore the Worlds of Marvel with the Avengers: Quantum Encounter, featuring international dishes alongside superheroes like Ant-Man, Captain America and more.

Disney Wish sails to the Bahamas  from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida.

U.S. News Insider Tip : The Disney Wish features Disney's first infinity pool in the Quiet Cove. Unlike Disney's other ships, the Quiet Cove is located on Deck 13 all the way in the back of the ship, so it feels more intimate and doesn't see kids walking through the space throughout the day. – Megan duBois, Contributor

Allure of the Seas

The 6,826-passenger Allure of the Seas, unveiled in 2010, is among the largest cruise ships in the world. There are a whopping 2,054 crew members on board to cater to passengers' needs. Along with signature line amenities like rock climbing walls and ice skating rinks, the ship houses seven unique neighborhoods with a variety of activities, shows and dining options. The ship underwent a $165 million refurbishment in 2020, which added approximately 50 new staterooms, the Ultimate Abyss (the tallest slide at sea), redesigned kids and teens spaces, new dining venues and more.

Other standout features include a zip line that descends 10 decks, two surf simulators and a science lab. Plus, with 19 dining options – and a Starbucks at sea – every member of the family will be satisfied.

In terms of lodging, about 65% of cabins feature balconies, and all staterooms are appointed with TVs and minifridges. Interior staterooms are the most economical option, but those who splurge on Suites are granted larger balconies and concierge service. Crowd-free areas might be difficult to find due to the outrageous capacity of the ship, but some recent cruisers praise the nonstop activity and entertainment.

Allure of the Seas departs from Miami, Orlando, Florida, and Galveston , Texas, for sailings in the Caribbean.

Cabin categories include Inside, Ocean View, Veranda and Suite rooms, and all are appointed with flat-screen TVs, 24-hour room service and sitting areas. Suites offer extra perks like afternoon appetizers and butler service. Past cruisers assured that even if you don't splurge on a butler-serviced room, you'll still receive individualized attention, as everyone from the room stewards to the restaurant servers were friendly and helpful.

Celebrity Equinox offers a variety of itineraries in the Caribbean and Europe.

Sky Princess

Debuted in October 2019, Sky Princess can accommodate 3,660 passengers and 1,346 crew members. With so much space, you'll find plenty of things to do on board. Spend your days playing ball at the sports court or swimming in one of three pools, or shop until you drop at the onboard boutiques. Nightfall brings deck parties, movie screenings under the stars and live performances at the theater by musicians, comedians and magicians. Kids won't be bored, either, as there are clubs designed specifically for three different age groups.

Sky Princess features traditional Interior, Oceanview and Balcony staterooms, as well as a number of Suite-category cabins – some of which are equipped with the largest balconies at sea. Every room comes fitted with a queen-sized bed or two twin beds, a refrigerator, a flat-screen TV and complimentary 24-hour room service.  The biggest accommodation on board are the Sky Suites. They are approximately 1,873 square feet and provide guests with 270-degree panorama views while cruising. The suite also comes with additional amenities such as complimentary balcony breakfast and dinner, luxury balcony furniture and a deluxe telescope for stargazing at night.

When it's time to chow down, cruisers will have their choice of nine inclusive dining venues and five specialty options. In the main dining room, passengers can choose between a set dinner time every evening or the line's Anytime Dining option, which will allow them to dine whenever – and with whomever – they want. You'll also find a complimentary buffet, a pizzeria, a seafood bar, a gelateria and afternoon tea. For a specialty dining experience, consider the intimate Chef's Table Lumiere or Bistro Sur La Mer by Emmanuel Renaut, a three-starred Michelin chef.

Sky Princess sails throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe and the Mediterranean. The ship also completes some transatlantic sailings.

Carnival Mardi Gras

There's a good reason why Carnival named one of its newest ships Mardi Gras. The ship – which launched in July 2021 – is not only named after the first Carnival ship that entered service in 1972, but also features amenities and activities that keep guests entertained and the atmosphere energized. Carnival designed the ship with six different zones, each with a unique flair. Kids can play all day in the Ultimate Playground, which features WaterWorks (the onboard water park), SkyCourse (a ropes course) and Bolt: Ultimate Sea Coaster, an onboard roller coaster that travels up to 40 mph. Meanwhile, adults can take advantage of Lido, where the RedFrog Tiki Bar flanks one of the ship's pools. Additional activities include a comedy club, a casino, Family Feud Live (yes – it looks like the famous show's set) and a spa.

As you might expect from its large-scale amenities, Mardi Gras is sizeable: It accommodates up to 6,465 passengers and 1,745 crew members. To keep up with demand, the ship offers close to 20 different dining venues serving everything from sushi to burgers to fried chicken. When travelers need refreshments or a nightcap, they can visit one of seven bars and lounges.

Following a full day of fun, cruisers will need a quiet retreat to rest their heads. Staterooms feature Carnival Comfort Collection linens, TVs and a dedicated room steward. Upgraded rooms may include perks like exclusive access to ship amenities, bottles of water, in-room coffee makers and priority check-in and disembarkation. Rooms range in size from 158 square feet for interior staterooms to the massive 1,120-square-foot Carnival Excel Presidential Suite.

Catch Mardi Gras in Caribbean locales like San Juan, Puerto Rico ; Cozumel and Grand Turk .

U.S. News Insider Tip: To dine at Bonsai Teppanyaki (available on Celebration , Horizon , Panorama , Venezia and Mardi Gras), make your reservation as soon as possible. The restaurant only seats 16 people at a time, so reservations go fast. –  Karon Warren , Contributor

Norwegian homeports two ships here: Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Sun. (Norwegian Escape also sails from this port part of the year.) Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy sail from here.

Here are the ships sailing from terminals A and B. (Note: All addresses are in Cape Canaveral, Florida 32920.)

Nearest airports

For cruising out of Port Canaveral, most people fly into Orlando International Airport (MCO) , which is about 45 minutes by car from the cruise terminal. It's the closest airport to the terminal with the most flights from gateways across America.

Airlines that serve MCO include Alaska Airlines, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Silver Airways, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, Sunwing and United.

The number of airlines offers plenty of potential for a good deal on airfare.

You can use the companion certificates that the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card ( how to use Alaska's companion fare ) offers as well as several Delta cobranded credit cards .

JetBlue offers frequent flash sales, as does Delta on both cash fares and those purchased with Delta SkyMiles . Watch American's Reduced Mileage Awards to see if MCO is on the current list.

Or if you've got Southwest's Companion Pass, you can bring a friend to MCO with you for just the cost of taxes and fees. And don't forget about Frontier's Kids Fly Free and Friends Fly Free promotions.

Hyatt Regency MCO entrance (Summer Hull / The Points Guy)

MCO isn't your only option when it comes to flying in for a Port Canaveral cruise. Allegiant Air flies into Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB), which is 40 minutes from Port Canaveral.

If you don't mind an hour's drive and you're coming from Atlanta, Charlotte or Philadelphia, you can choose Orlando Melbourne International Airport (MLB) . It's got nonstop service from those cities on Delta and American. Or, if you're flying in from Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando-MCO, Detroit, New York LaGuardia or St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, you can fly nonstop to Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) on Delta, American or Sunwing.

How to get to the port

Cruise line transfers.

Purchasing a transfer from your cruise line is an easy way to get from the airport to the cruise terminal (or your hotel). However, transfers are often only for cruisers who've purchased airfare from the cruise line. Call your cruise line to inquire about purchasing transfers. Carnival Cruise Line sells transfers from MCO and MLB airports to Port Canaveral and back. The per-person, one-way prices are $35.99 and $39.99, respectively.

Hotel shuttles

If you plan to stay near the airport the night before your cruise, you'll find plenty of hotels that offer free shuttle pickup service from the airport. But because of the distance from the airports to Port Canaveral, you won't find free shuttles to the cruise terminal (there are some paid options). For free airport transfers, you need to stay at a hotel close to Port Canaveral.

There are also points hotels offering paid shuttle service to Port Canaveral. They include:

  • Homewood Suites by Hilton Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach: 40k Hilton Honors points per night; $6 per person shuttle to the port; a park-and-cruise package includes on-site parking and round-trip shuttle transfers to the port
  • Hampton Inn Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral: 44k–50k Hilton Honors points per night; $7 per person shuttle to the port ($12 round-trip)
  • Residence Inn Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach: 35k Marriott Bonvoy points per night on standard dates (Category 5); $8 per person shuttle to the port plus discounted long-term parking if you want to leave your car in the parking lot during your cruise
  • Radisson Resort at the Port: From 38k Radisson Rewards points per night; $6 per person shuttle to Port Canaveral (kids 6 and under are free); there is also a Cruise & Park package for those driving in the day before a cruise

GoPort is an interesting option for transport, hotel and parking packages that dovetail with your Port Canaveral cruise. It's available for travelers flying into and out of MCO, SFB and MLB as well as those driving into the Port Canaveral area the day before their cruise. Select from two options: Fly Snooze Cruise, which includes airport transportation, hotel accommodations and transfer to the cruise terminal, and Snooze Park Cruise which packages hotel accommodations and cruise parking in one price.

Independent van and car services

From MCO, there are several shuttle services, including Busy Traveler Transportation , Cocoa Beach Shuttle, Melbourne Airport Express (also out of MLB) and Mears . To get an idea of price, we asked for a quote on a one-way trip from MCO to Disney Cruise Line at Port Canaveral. A luxury sedan for a family of four cost $160. Upgrade to an SUV for $188.

There are also plenty of car services to hire. Look locally or go with Groundlink. The estimated cost from MCO to Port Canaveral is about $114 one-way for a standard vehicle that accommodates three people. Add $20 if you need a car seat for a child. A van accommodating up to 10 people priced out at $161.

Taxis and ride-hailing services

Taxis are plentiful at airports and can be a simple way to get to Port Canaveral. The one-way price from MCO is $115.

Uber and Lyft operate out of MCO, MLB, SFB and DAB. An UberX ride from MCO Airport to the port costs about $62. The ride from Orlando Melbourne airport costs about $75. You're looking at about $83 from SFB and $119 from Daytona Beach airport.

Public transportation

There are a few ways to arrive at Port Canaveral via public transportation but none of them are attractive. Amtrak's Silver Service (New York-Washington, D.C.-Charleston-Savannah-Jacksonville) stops at the Auto Train Station in Sanford, Florida, about an hour from Port Canaveral. Take a taxi or Uber from there.

You could also theoretically take a Greyhound bus to the area but the closest station is in Titusville, about 25 miles from the port. Not a great solution.

Port parking

Each cruise terminal has plenty of parking. CT1 has 1,007 covered spaces and CT3 has 1,800 covered spaces. CT5 has a brand-new garage with a covered walkway on the second floor that brings passengers directly into the terminal. CT6 is a covered parking garage right next to where your ship docks.

The parking situation at Port Canaveral's Cruise Terminal 3. (Image courtesy of Port Canaveral)

Note that CT8's 1,000-space parking garage is exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. CT10's parking was recently upgraded so you can pick between outdoor parking or a six-level parking garage.

You can pay for parking with credit cards from American Express, Visa, Mastercard and Discover.

Tip: Parking is free in certain cases. If you have a disability and a vehicle equipped with ramps, lifts, foot or hand controls, parking is complimentary. That also holds true if you have a Florida Toll Exemption permit or a Florida Disabled Veteran license plate.

Parking rates are as follows:

Cruise Terminal 8 for Disney Cruise Line is considered "Preferred Parking," so you'll pay $20 more than the standard rates listed above.

Parking at Port Canaveral is the most convenient, but you can save a few bucks by parking in nearby lots, like Park Port Canaveral ($10.95/day), Canaveral Cruise Parking ($8.95/day; also rents mobility scooters), Cruisetime Parking ($8/day), 528 Parking ($8.70/day) or Park N Cruise ($10.95/day).

Each of these lots offers free shuttles to Port Canaveral (at some lots, though, there may be a charge of a few dollars for more than five passengers in one car). And look online for promo codes that can reduce the costs even more.

Where to stay near the port

You've got a lot of options when it comes to booking a pre-cruise overnight hotel. You can choose to stay near whichever airport you flew into, book an Orlando resort for the night or head to the Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area and stay there. Here are three options near the port:

Hotel closest to the port

If the distance to the port is your No. 1 concern, Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Port Canaveral, Florida , is your best bet. It's about three miles, or a six-minute drive, from Norwegian's cruise terminal.

Rooms have a microwave and a fridge. Book a cruise parking and shuttle package so you can leave your vehicle at the hotel during your voyage. Double rooms feature two queen beds -- a bonus over hotels that only offer double beds, a less-than-family-friendly arrangement.

The hotel also offers a free hot breakfast (such as make-your-own waffles), Wi-Fi, cookies, coffee and tea.

Stay on the cheap

There are plenty of inexpensive places to stay near the port, including Days Inn by Wyndham Cocoa Cruiseport West at I-95/524 . We've seen rates around $60 to $95 per night there and that includes free Wi-Fi and a hot breakfast. It won't be anything special, but it will give you somewhere to sleep the night before a cruise. The hotel is a 25-minute drive to the port and the Days Inn offers a shuttle.

With cash rates this low, you probably wouldn't want to use your Wyndham Rewards points but you could if you're flush with them. A night's stay costs 15,000 points.

Full-service hotel

There aren't any swanky luxury hotels nearby. Near the port, your best option is the Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront (47,000 to 50,000 Hilton Honors points per night). It's a full-service property with a restaurant, bar, beach grill and coffee shop so no matter what time you arrive, you should be able to grab a meal or a snack. The hotel is on the beach and many rooms have beautiful views. It's a 15- to 20-minute drive to Port Canaveral.

Where to shop near the port

If you need to pick up last-minute items before embarkation, there are a few stores nearby. At the cruise terminal, you'll find the Seaman Centre Port Canaveral supermarket. It's mainly designed for crew but you can get a toothbrush or snacks for your cabin. It's about a three-minute walk from Cruise Terminal 5 and seven minutes from Cruise Terminal 6.

Closer to Terminal 1, look for Sunrise Marina, which has a bait-and-tackle shop that also sells some clothing, sandals and sunglasses, plus souvenirs.

If you need to do a lot of shopping, drive to Merritt Square Mall (777 E Merritt Island Causeway, Merritt Island) or Walmart (1500 E Merritt Island Causeway, Merritt Island). Both shopping centers are about 20 minutes from the port.

Where to eat

If you're sailing out of Terminal 1, Royal Caribbean's terminal, you can walk to a few waterfront restaurants, including Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar (500 Glen Cheek Drive, Cape Canaveral). It's fun to sit on the deck with your cruise ship docked nearby. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. At lunch and dinner, expect specialties like tuna poke, fried shrimp and fish, jalapeño poppers, chowder and more. Plus, if you want to learn about the lionfish invasion of Florida's waters, Grills can fill you in and serve it to you as well.

Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill (610 Glen Cheek Drive) is also walking distance (5-10 minutes) from Cruise Terminal 1. It's open daily for lunch and dinner plus brunch on Sundays. Similar to Grills, Fishlips features a seafood menu with things like lobster bisque, spicy gumbo, shark bites, peel-n-eat shrimp, wings and more. The baked lobster dinner and fried seafood combo platter are especially popular.

Two additional restaurants within the port complex are Rising Tide Tap & Table (523 Glen Cheek Drive), across from Exploration Tower (more on that below), for pizzas, salads, burgers and sandwiches, and Rusty's Seafood & Oyster Bar, the place for Alaskan king crab legs and Key lime pie (628 Glen Cheek Drive). Both are open for lunch and dinner and are closest to Terminal 1.

Sights to see

There are a few tourist attractions near the port and some that are a short drive away. Here are a few spots that should be on your must-visit list.

Exploration Tower

Head to the indoor and outdoor observation decks at Exploration Tower (670 Dave Nisbet Drive, Port Canaveral) for panoramic views of the cruise port, Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral. In addition to a cafe and gift shop on the first floor, the tower has exhibits about the port and Florida's environment on each floor. There's even a fun interactive experience where you can "pilot" a cruise ship into Canaveral Harbor.

Exploration Tower is an incredible place to be during rocket launches. Check the website for VIP rocket launch viewing tickets . General admission is $6.50 for adults, $4 for seniors or members of the military, and $3.75 for kids 3-10. Parking is free.

Manatee Sanctuary Park

This lovely 10-acre riverfront park is located at 701 Thurm Blvd., Cape Canaveral (about six minutes from the port). It's got a boardwalk (you can see cruise ships in the distance from the path), a half-mile walking trail, a playground, 10 exercise stations, horseshoe pits, bike-share station, picnic tables and viewing platforms from which you can look for manatees in the Banana River. There's no guarantee that you'll see one but it's a good place to try if you don't want to drive up to Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. The sunset views from the park are spectacular.

Kennedy Space Center

If you've got a few hours or an entire day, Kennedy Space Center (Space Commerce Way, Merritt Island) is worth the visit. It's about a 25-minute drive from Port Canaveral. Through exhibits, rides and interactive experiences, you'll learn about America's space program. You can even have lunch with an astronaut (for an extra fee). If you go, check out Space Shuttle Atlantis as well as the Rocket Garden and Kennedy Space Center bus tour.

Admission is $57 per person for those 12 and older, $50 for seniors and military personnel, and $47 for kids 3–11.

Cocoa Beach

If you're old enough to remember "I Dream of Jeannie," you probably remember that Cocoa Beach was the home of Jeannie and her astronaut love interest. Cocoa Beach isn't actually one beach but consists of a string of beaches that range 72 miles along the Atlantic Coast.

Here are just a few of the Cocoa Beach beaches you can visit (from north to south). Jetty Park and Cheri Down Park are closest to Port Canaveral.

  • Canaveral National Seashore, Playalinda Beach -- secluded beachfront on a barrier island
  • Jetty Park at Port Canaveral -- three acres of beach featuring the 1,500-foot Malcome E. McLouth Fishing Pier plus covered pavilions, picnic tables, showers and restrooms (you can rent chairs, umbrellas, kayaks and boogie boards from vendors on the beach)
  • Cherie Down Park -- 200-foot boardwalk along the dunes
  • Cocoa Beach Pier -- great for surfing and there are some restaurants and shops on the pier
  • Alan Shepard Park -- five-acre oceanfront park with picnic areas and a bathhouse
  • Sidney Fischer Park -- 10-acre oceanfront park that's a hit with families because of the picnic pavilions, showers and restrooms

Orlando's theme parks

The major theme parks are further afield, but you probably are flying into Orlando anyway, so why not spend a few days exploring them? We are especially fond of:

  • Walt Disney World -- Don't miss the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
  • Universal Orlando -- Enter the ever-popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
  • Legoland Florida -- It has new rides and themed rooms at its hotel.

Bottom line

Cruising out of Port Canaveral can be an excellent value since you can often find terrific flight deals to MCO and hotels in the Port Canaveral area that are reasonably priced. Four of the industry's most popular cruises lines -- Carnival, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean -- sail from the port. Take a look at the available itineraries and we bet you'll be booking a cruise soon!

6 Best Cruises Out Of Port Canaveral

By Zachary Laks | Published on April 9, 2024

It's time to start planning your next big vacation. Whether you're looking for a weekend getaway, a family-friendly vacation or an extended voyage, you'll find cruises out of Port Canaveral, Florida that tick all your boxes.

When considering one of the cruises out of Port Canaveral, plan extra time before and after your sailing to soak up all the fun that the area has to offer. There's so much to do in Orlando that you could stay for several days and never get bored — music to your ears if you're traveling with children. One of the best things about Orlando cruises is that you have your choice of theme parks to round out your vacation. They're expansive and immersive escapes into playful worlds, not unlike a great cruise. I love tacking on an extra day or two at an Orlando theme park, usually before my cruise departs. I always appreciate the days of racking up thousands of steps traversing a theme park before boarding a cruise, where I know I'll be able to lounge on a deck or relax in a hot tub.

Not far from Port Canaveral, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is a great place to spend a day admiring the vast scope of NASA. The center offers one-of-a-kind immersion into space exploration, including the chance to strap into a rocket launch simulator for an adrenaline-pumping thrill.

For those seeking a more peaceful retreat before boarding their cruises out of Orlando, Port Canaveral is near the white sands of Cocoa Beach. Spend the day enjoying calm, low waves — great for year-round swimming, learning to surf and kayaking alongside manatees and dolphins. Or take a seat on an airboat ride through the wetlands for encounters with alligators and, depending on the season, bald eagles, herons and osprey.

Ready to book a cruise to Port Canaveral? Here are the six best cruises from Port Canaveral.

Serene Clear Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral, Florida

1. Best For A Long Weekend

Coco Beach Club Beach Cabanas Mom and Daughter Tanning, Perfect Day at Coco Cay

Set to launch in the summer of 2024, Utopia of the Seas ℠ will be the sixth Oasis Class ship, Royal Caribbean's class of ships packed with adventure and entertainment. The new ship will focus on three- and four-night cruises from its year-round home port in Port Canaveral, with onboard upgrades that include reimagined pool decks, a Giovanni's℠ Italian Kitchen that spans two decks (try the osso buco!) and the new Pesky Parrot tiki bar, serving fruity cocktails on the Royal Promenade. This itinerary  to the Bahamas on Utopia of the Seas ℠ is the best for a long weekend exploring the highlights of The Bahamas, with a day in Nassau followed by a day at Perfect Day at CocoCay , Royal Caribbean's private island destination.

2. Best For Beach Lovers

Colorful buildings along the coast, Willemstad, Curacao

This exquisite itinerary to the Southern Caribbean on Adventure of the Seas ® routes you to the farthest corner of the Caribbean for some of its best beaches. Sailing on the Adventure of the Seas ® for eight nights from Port Canaveral, you'll stop in ports such as Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curaçao; and Kralendijk, Bonaire. Each port will welcome you with easily accessible, powdery sand beaches primed for world-class swimming, snorkeling and diving. You'll have your pick of 86 dive sites at Bonaire National Marine Park with more than 350 recorded fish species known to frequent the waters.

3. Best For A European Adventure

Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Boats Docked

Transatlantic sailings make for such a special vacation, and this 13-night Transatlantic Azores itinerary on Adventure of the Seas ® packs four remarkable ports into the crossing. You'll cruise the Atlantic for the first nine days, living it up on a ship that is packed with ways to play and relax. You'll arrive in idyllic Tenerife in the Canary Islands on the tenth day. Immerse yourself in the local Spanish culture by spending part of your day exploring the Museum of Nature and Archaeology or the Basilica de Candelaria shrine. The cruise continues to Lanzarote, Canary Islands, where picture-perfect colonial mansions line cobblestone streets, then on to the adventurous mountain island of Madeira, Portugal before completing your journey in the charming streets of Lisbon, Portugal.

4. Best For Private Island Getaways

Hamilton, Bermuda Horseshoe Bay

This unique Port Canaveral cruise itinerary  to Bermuda and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Adventure of the Seas ® visits both of Royal Caribbean's private destinations, where paradise is just steps away from the ship. On an eight-night journey, this ship will first cruise to Labadee, the cruise line's private peninsula adventure park and beach. Soak up this private spot by relaxing on the beach, enjoy the destination's signature cocktail specialty, the Labadoozie (a fruity rum cocktail) or opt for a zip line ride that will send you soaring over the ocean. The next private island destination is Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's oasis in The Bahamas. Here you'll port within short distance of pristine beaches, a thrilling water park and countless ways to unwind beneath the palm trees. There's also a stop in Bermuda, home to pink-sand beaches and rum swizzles.

5. Best For Foodies

Authentic Cozumel Shrimp Tacos

Foodies will delight in fresh, authentic Caribbean dishes on this itinerary to the Western Caribbean and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Wonder of the Seas ® . In Cozumel, Mexico you'll find lunch specialties featuring locally caught seafood, often grouper and red snapper fried on a plate with rice and a vibrant salad. In Roatán, Honduras, ceviche is the local favorite, along with fried plantains and baleadas — tacos made with soft flour tortillas. The ship's final port is Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico, a charming fishing village where the salbutes  (fried corn tortillas topped with shredded chicken) make a great appetizer to the catch of the day, served hot off the grill.

6. Best For Variety

Aruba ATV Off Road Track, Oranjestad, Aruba

This seven-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary  on Wonder of the Seas ® is a top choice if you want to change things up and go on a unique adventure in each port. Your first destination is Philipsburg, St. Maarten, where you can tour the island on an ATV, sample rum from a local distillery or end the day with a sunset horseback ride on the beach. When the ship arrives in the U.S. Virgin Islands at Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, head straight to Magens Bay, often short-listed as one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Or dive into a snorkeling tour to get face time with some sea turtles and coral reefs. On your final stop, Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay, everyone in your group can enjoy a seemingly endless array of activities. If the beach is calling, grab a spot on one of the many cushy beach loungers close to a bar serving up island cocktails that go great with the ocean view. For the adventurous ones, Daredevil's Peak® waterslide is North America's tallest and promises an adrenaline rush.

These people no NOTHING of helping handicap people with scooters Made us wait 2 shuttles 45 min. Because they didn't understand that it breaks down to size of suitcase We have used them in the past with no issues and they were of little help and no understanding. DO NOT USE IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE! Had to load my Scooby self.

This is the worst company to deal with, they are not a company it's one person answering the phones and driving, when I received my receipt it only had the amount paid, that was after I called to receive confirmation 3 hours later, call the next morning at 9am to make sure he had the right hotel for pickup, was told their was a women coming in at 1030 am to notify me, well that didn't happen. Called back at 130 spoke with Paul, supposedly spoke with him the day before but instead of being able to make reservations right there a then , he told me to go online and make reservations, after waiting for 3 hours ,told me because it was raining, that he was unable to call me back, Replied by asking him because it was raining he could not call back, he told me it was none of my business, AND HUNG UP ON ME, SO USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. If I could give it a zero, I most definitelywould do that

Wish I would have known how terrible this shuttle service is! We got off the ship and had to wit over 30min on our shuttle. Other shuttle companies were pickinging up nonstop. I called their main office to find out if a shuttle was on the way & they couldn't tell me?? Very incompetent business!

Photo of D M.

I am an ex employee , i want to let everybody that is thinking of taking this shuttle to be carefull because this company is shady and they really dont have a million dollar insurance policy , and he isnt registered with the DOT and he isnt registered at MCO airport for pick ups which is why he askes everybody to wait at arrival bagage claim door B31 and A4 so just because its cheap doesnt mean its better ... the owner doesnt have any costumer service skills and is very disrespectful .. and i was told he was waiting for me on monday morning with a gun incase i showed up to pick up my last paycheck .. so please be careful when choosing this company when on vacation to port canaveral ..

"Travel you can trust" Do not trust them with your luggage. If you decide to ride Go Port Canaveral. Please do not let the incompetent driver put your luggage under the shuttle always have your luggage in your Iap. I understand my luggage was not labeled, however, it was my 1st cruise, and I was going to carry- on my luggage as I do with all my excursions. The driver was asked if it was required at the time of the arrival to label my luggage (going to the port from MCO) he stated it was not necessary after 3 people told him I was going to Carnival Liberty. When I got off the 3rd stop with Go Port Canaveral my luggage was NO where to be found for my cruise. The incompeten driver proceeded to smoke a cigarette, give me a number that do not work, and go on about his day as if he did not inconvenience and ruin someone's trip. The port services and Carnival have been very helpful and supportive within this process. However, Go Port Canaveral is now refusing to even give me a copy and/or a letter regarding the incident so that I can keep it for my records and give it to the insurance calm company. The motorcoach company decided that the case is closed eventhough I clearly did not have my luggage at the time and/or a reimbursement so the case was not closed. Inside the motorcoach there's a sign that reads " Warning :NO materials left on the motorcoach is the companies responsibility." This is the policy that was quoted to me by one of the supervisors. However my luggage was not left on the bus like a cellphone, coat or a carseat, my luggage was removed prematurely from under the shuttle that there employee put there. That is two different things. Go Port Canaveral has only offered me their sympathy, No monetary reimbursement, a phone call, or even a free ride back to the airport.. This major error has now been rectified but Go Port Canaveral HAD NOTHING to do with the FINDING, SHIPPING, HANDLING, DELIVERING of the luggage to the owner. In fact Go Port Canaveral stated they did everything in their power to find my luggage and it was no where to be found. But the Port, both cruise lines and this shipping receipt says different. And it does not negate the fact that it ruined my vacation. So if you must ride Go Port Canaveral just be uncomfortable for 45 minutes to an hour and carry all your stuff in your lap. Because they see no fault in 2500 dollar error made by their employee

2 hours late. Won't go to agreed drop-off point. Don't answer my calls. Definitely won't be my "First Choice". Or could be... from the bottom.

I wish I would have read the other review on Yelp prior to making a reservation with this company... My husband and I made reservations to go to Port Canaveral for a Cruise, from the Orlando International Airport. The original reservation I made was for 10AM. My husband and I got to the airport around 10AM, when I looked at my reservation and it said 11AM. With this in mind, we called the company and they said they had no reservations for 10AM and that we were scheduled to be picked up at 11AM and that the driver would call or text when he was close. I thought this weird, remembering that I made the reservation for 10AM, and when I checked my email, the original email I received from them said that my reservation was for 10AM. At this point, I was okay with getting picked up at 11AM, because a 1-hour difference was nothing to get worried about. When 11AM rolled around and no one called, my husband I were getting concerned. Around 11:10AM, we called the company to find out where the driver was, and they said that he was running a half-hour late. When 11:30AM rolled around, we discovered that there were at least 6 other people waiting for the same shuttle, all from original reservation times of 10AM and 11AM. Finally, at 11:50AM (almost 2 hours after our original reservation time, 50 minutes after they claimed to come pick us up), the shuttle finally arrived. The driver loaded all the luggage and we started on our way to Port Canaveral. On top of being extremely late, and never being contacted by the company to let us know they were going to be late - Once we were on the shuttle, the driver notified my husband and I that our credit card was declined, and we owed them $70. I told him I had a receipt verifying payment and he insisted I call their headquarters to discover what the issue was. After 20 minutes on the phone, between me and my husband, calling the bank, etc. we discovered that the company, Port Canaveral Cruise shuttles, entered the credit card info incorrectly, thus declining my card. Needless to say, that after that entire ordeal, and waiting almost 2 hours to be picked up by them, I did not want to risk the delay in getting to the airport for our return flight home. Instead of taking Port Canaveral Cruise Shuttles, we ended up taking a taxi to the airport on our way back. Normally, I am not a person to complain about service, as my husband and I have both worked many years in the service industries. But I feel I should warn people about this company. I will NEVER use them again, and I strongly advise people to not waste their money on them.

Photo of Stephanie K.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!! They stranded myhusband and I at the Orlando airport. We were not the only ones stranded, as there was another couple and a trio of patrons who needed to find transportation. They do not answer the phones, reply to messages on their answering machine or answer emails. I am out $150....$70+tip for the service never recieved and $62.50 plus tip for the cab ride we caught with the other stranded couple.

Photo of Terri M.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! I would give them zero if possible. I should have read the reviews. I booked this service through their website. They had dropdown times listed, one was 8:30 AM from Port Canaveral back to the Orlando Airport. My flight home was at 11:10AM so in comments I noted that it was vital that I get back to the airport on time. I received an email that said they do not have 8:30AM pickup (then why have it as a choice on the website?) I replied that if they were able to pick me up at 9:00AM it would work for me. The next thing I knew I had a confirmation ( and $ 70.00 charge) from them for 9:00 to 9:30 AM pickup. I NEVER authorized anything at 9:30...I said 9:00AM would work. When I arrived at the airport at the beginning of my vacation I got a call from the driver (who was a nice polite young man) & waited about 15 minutes for his pickup. Before we could proceed to Port Canaveral, however, we had to stop and get gas. He told everyone to feel free to get anything they needed at the gas station. Other passengers on the shuttle were livid. One man said he had waited 45 minutes to be picked up. He received a call from friends who used another service & were already on the ship. This shuttle passenger said "what next, do we stop for a lube job & oil change?" When my cruise was finished I decided that I could not risk waiting for these people & got a taxi back to the airport. This was based on the total disregard for their passengers time that I had experienced on the afore mentioned trip with them from the airport to the ship. I called them and said I wouldn't be using their service back to the airport & requested a credit for half of what they had charged my credit card. The woman on the phone said she was just transportation & I would have to email them, which I did. I received a reply to that email advising that I should check my confirmation for their cancellation policy. There was no cancellation policy on the the email I received, so I called them. I spoke with a very rude man, with a thick accent, who said cancellations must be made 72 hours in advance. He told me that if I needed a pick up on time I should not have booked a cheap rate. That I should have booked a private car & driver. He said it was not his problem that their driver called me at 9:45AM that morning (much too late to get to the airport on time) that if I were not cheap there wouldn't have been a problem. When I advised I was going to post this review & file a complaint with the Attorney General he said he would charge my account $ 400.00. I have NEVER experienced anything like these people. I can't imagine they will be in business long with this type service. Bottom line I paid for a service they could not deliver & they seem to think it is okay for them to be paid for doing nothing but being rude.

Photo of Heidi A.

This company is sketchy at best. They took my credit card info yesterday, said they would email a confirmation last night. They didn't. I called today to confirm and BOTH their LOCAL AND 800 NUMBERS WERE DISCONNECTED!! Great timing...I should have believed the awful reviews. I called my credit card company, the Port Authority and told them that these people are more than likely frauds. Next is calling the Sheriffs Dept. I sent an email cancelling our reservations and advising them that should there be any charges on my card, fraud charges will ensue. Oh, and my husband is a Police Officer.

Carnival cancels 2 planned cruises from Port Canaveral after ship catches fire

Passengers on a Carnival cruise ship that caught fire over the weekend disembarked at Port Canaveral on Monday.

▶ WATCH CHANNEL 9 EYEWITNESS NEWS

Videos sent to Ch. 9 show dark smoke and flames coming from the Carnival Freedom’s exhaust funnel on Saturday.

Carnival says lightning may be to blame.

In response to this fire, the next two cruises on the ship have been canceled.

Read: 2 crew members killed on Holland America cruise ship during incident onboard

The ship was scheduled to depart from Port Canaveral on Monday, and then again on Friday.

The fire was reported while the ship was near the Bahamas.

Passengers reported seeing lightning strike the boat, but the investigation is still underway.

Read: New cruise line coming to Port Canaveral this year

Carnival Cruise Lines released the following statement:

Carnival Freedom experienced a fire in the port side of the exhaust funnel on Saturday. Our onboard team acted quickly to contain and put out the fire. While we continue to investigate multiple eyewitness reports of a lightning strike, our technical team completed a thorough assessment during the ship’s visit to Freeport today. Regrettably, the damage is more than we first thought and will require an immediate repair to stabilize the funnel, resulting in the cancellation of the March 25 and March 29 cruises from Port Canaveral.

The funnel has been stabilized for the ship’s return to Port Canaveral overnight to disembark guests, and then it will go to the Freeport shipyard on Monday afternoon to begin the required repairs.

We sincerely regret the impact to our embarking guests, as we know they have been looking forward to their spring break vacation. We are providing all guests on both cancelled cruises a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit so they can come back and enjoy a future cruise with us. We also greatly appreciate the terrific guests who are currently sailing with us, for their outstanding cooperation and support.
