RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Announces Summer 2022 European Tour

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE has announced the rescheduled dates for the European leg of the band's "Public Service Announcement" tour with RUN THE JEWELS .

All previously sold tickets for the headline shows (Vienna, Krakow and Prague) will be honored.

Fans who cannot attend and would like a refund can contact the original point of purchase until May 23.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE 2022 European tour dates:

Aug. 24 - Edinburgh, UK - Royal Highlands Centre Aug. 26 - Leeds, UK - Leeds Festival Aug. 28 - Reading, UK - Reading Festival Sep. 01 - Antwerp, Belgium - Sportpaleis Sep. 03 - Hannover, Germany - Expo Plaza Sep. 05 - Zurich, Switzerland - Hallenstadion Sep. 08 - Malaga, Spain - Andalucia Big Festival Sep. 10 - Madrid, Spain - Mad Cool Sunset Sep. 13 - Vienna, Austria - Stadthalle Sep. 15 - Krakow, Poland - Tauron Arena Sep. 18 - Zagreb, Croatia - Zagreb Arena Sep. 19 - Prague, Czech Republic - O2 Arena

This past January, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE postponed the start date of the U.S. leg of its "Public Service Announcement" tour to this summer. The North American leg of the trek was originally slated to begin in March 2020 before it was rescheduled several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The trek will now kick off on July 9 in East Troy, Wisconsin. The 19 RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE shows that were supposed to take place between March 31 and May 23 will now take place in early 2023.

The upcoming tour will mark the first time the reunited quartet — Zack De La Rocha , Tom Morello , Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford — has hit the road together since 2011.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE last played together at L.A. Rising and has resisted calls for a reunion, with vocalist De La Rocha previously believed to be the lone holdout. Guitarist Morello and his fellow RAGE bandmates Commerford (bass) and Wilk (drums) have since teamed up with PUBLIC ENEMY 's Chuck D. and CYPRESS HILL 's B-Real in the similarly styled PROPHETS OF RAGE .

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE recorded three original studio albums and one set of covers before breaking up in 2000. The group reformed in 2007 but only played sporadic gigs and never a full tour.

Rage Against The Machine cancel their 2022 UK and European tour

Frontman Zack de la Rocha has been issued "medical guidance" after sustaining an on-stage injury last month

Rage Against the Machine

Rage Against The Machine have been forced to cancel their forthcoming UK and European tour dates.

The band returned to action only last month after an 11-year absence , kicking off a North American tour with Run The Jewels   which had originally been due to start in March 2020 .

However, during the second show of the rescheduled tour in Chicago on July 11, frontman Zack de la Rocha injured his leg mid-performance . De la Rocha has since continued the tour with RATM, though he has been seated on stage while performing during each subsequent gig.

This afternoon (August 11) RATM have confirmed that, due to “medical guidance”, de la Rocha has been advised not to proceed with performing beyond their run of dates at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, which conclude on Sunday (August 14).

This means that RATM’s forthcoming UK and European tour dates, which included a pair of headline slots at Reading & Leeds next month, have been cancelled.

“It is with great disappoint that we announce this cancellation,” the band said in their statement. “Zack must return home for rest and rehabilitation [following the New York shows]. The flights, travel time and rigorous schedule in the UK and Europe are simply too much of a risk for a complete recovery.

Rage Against The Machine

Rage Against The Machine made an explosive return to the stage with their first show in 11 years on Saturday night.

The rap-metal icons kicked off their pandemic-delayed Public Service Announcement two years later than planned, with a 16-song set at the 37,000-capacity Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin on July 9.

They opened the show with Bombtrack , from their landmark 1992 debut album , and unleashed classics such as Bullet In The Head , Guerrilla Radio , Calm Like A Bomb , Sleep Now In The Fire and Killing In The Name .

While there was no new music, the band did break out their cover of Bruce Springsteen’s The Ghost Of Tom Joad for the first time since July 2000.

Rage Against The Machine bring the Public Service Announcement tour to the UK and Europe next month, kicking it off tour on August 24 at Edinburgh’s Royal Highlands Centre, before headlining the Leeds and Reading festivals on August 26 and 28.

The band, who recently returned to the live circuit after an 11-year absence, cancel on medical grounds.

Rage Against the Machine have cancelled their UK and European tour including headline slots at Reading and Leeds festival due to a medical issue involving singer Zack de la Rocha.

The US band were headlining the twin UK festivals and were also playing an Edinburgh show in less than a fortnight’s time. A statement said that de la Rocha is having to follow “medical guidance”.

Although details were not shared specifying the medical issue, last month de la Rocha injured his leg on stage at a gig in Chicago and performed following gigs sitting down.

“It is with great disappoint that we announce this cancellation,” the band said in their statement. “Zack must return home for rest and rehabilitation [following the New York shows]. The flights, travel time and rigorous schedule in the UK and Europe are simply too much of a risk for a complete recovery.

One of the most important rock bands of the last thirty years, Rage Against the Machine hit the scene hard as one of the defining acts of the 1990s, and continues to make an impact to this day.

Lead guitarist Tom Morello, singer Zack de le Rocha, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk got together in the Los Angeles area back in 1991. Introducing a style heavily steeped in heavy metal, punk, funk and rap, the band quickly caught the ears of fans with its initial twelve-song self-titled, self-released demo cassette. Belting out hard grooves with passionate political protest lyrics, the band laid down who they would be from the get-go.

Touring in support of bands like Porno for Pyros and Suicidal Tendencies, Rage Against the Machine scored a label deal with Epic Records, with a second release of its self-titled debut album. Given an unusual amount of creative control, the band did not hold back their unapologetic protest sound. The band even made the self-immolation of Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thích Quảng Đức, a self-sacrificial act of defiance against his oppressive government, into the cover image of their first LP. The record went on to achieve triple platinum certification, reaching 45 on the Billboard 200 charts.

The following year, Rage Against the Machine kept climbing in popularity. Supporting House of Pain in early 1993, followed by appearances at Lollapalooza, the band’s following quickly swelled. In addition to its many tours over the following years, the band stayed true to its political activism by appearing in a series of benefits and protest shows. The band headlined the Rock for Choice campaign and organized a show in support of imprisoned Native American activist Leonard Peltier. In 1994, it recorded the track “Year of tha Boomerang” for the John Singleton film Higher Learning, which was about college racism.

Amidst many rumors of being on the verge of breaking up, Rage Against the Machine proved the naysayers wrong with the release of 1996’s Evil Empire. Its long-anticipated second album debuted on the top spot of the Billboard 200 charts. Its appearance on Saturday Night Live in support of the record was cut short when the band hung inverted American flags from its amps in protest of the show’s host, Steve Forbes. Rage also played at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in San Francisco that year alongside fellow performers Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Smashing Pumpkins, and many more.

In 1997, the band opened for a U2 benefit concert, then headlined its own tour later that year with bands like Wu-Tang Clan and The Roots supporting. By 1999, its next full length album release would drop. The Battle of Los Angeles once again debuted on the number one spot of the Billboard 200, quickly going double platinum. That same year, Rage played in Woodstock ’99, and their track “Wake Up” appeared on the soundtrack for the film The Matrix.

In 2000, Zack de la Rocha left Rage Against the Machine due to differences, causing the band to break up. Despite this, another record came out a few months later. Renegades featured all cover songs of a wide array of acts such as The Rolling Stones, Cypress Hill and Bruce Springsteen. The remaining three members formed the group Audioslave with former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell. Audioslave released three albums before disbanding in 2007.

In 2007, Rage Against the Machine reunited for a performance at Coachella. A small tour followed in 2008 at European and American festivals. For the following years, more shows and side projects kept hopes alive for a new Rage album. But the members stopped playing together around 2010.

In 2019, the band announced its first full-throated tour in 20 years. The tour, planned over the course of 2020, was unfortunately cut short due to the Covid pandemic. Back on track for 2022, the tour was derailed again when de la Rocha suffered a severe leg injury onstage. Regardless, the band is poised to return to the road after the singer recovers.

Live reviews

I went to several Rage Against the Machine concerts in the early 2000s and went to the show at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 2011 after the band got back together and all I can say is, “Wow!” This band is utterly incredible live.

They bring an energy to the stage that very few bands can match. The concerts are not about distracting the audience with flash stage sets, illusions, or anything else that some bands do. Lead singer Zack de la Rocha demands your attention with his stage presence and vocals. He growls, screams, and sings in a way that few vocalists can. It’s incredible that, after almost two decades of this, he still has any voice left.

Tom Morello is probably one of the best guitarists performing today. Witnessing him live is a treat. Just watch his hands and how they dance over the guitar strings. It is hard to believe that a human being can make those kinds of sounds come from a guitar with only two hands!

The crowd has been electric at all of the shows I have been to. When you go in, expect to dance, jump around, and maybe even get snatched up and sent crowd surfing. There is no standing around at a Rage concert. Every song is fast, aggressive, and electrifying.

When I saw them in 2011 they played for almost two hours and covered every major song in their catalogue. The crowd ate it up and it felt like neither the band nor the crowd wanted to leave the venue. They are currently on hiatus again, but when they reunite and go on another tour, they are an act that cannot be missed.

Report as inappropriate

The only time I seen RAtM was in the early 90's. I was only like 15 or so. Not my first concert, maybe my 7th or so. Not a stadium venue, nor a nightclub venue. More of an antique theater venue. They were co-headliners with Cypress Hill with Funkdoobiest as openers. I don't remember a lot from that day, do to the high amount of...well, high. I do recall I had a great time. Never heard bass notes hit so hard and loud before, even from friend's beaters stuffed with battery killing dual 15's or what have you. The other thing I really recall was trying to comprehend how the guitarist was creating those sounds. How unconventional it seemed. It was experimental, yet held rhythm and melody. It just meshed so well with the rest of the soundscape, yet was different. New. I was lightly familiar with Hendrix by then. Seen the Woodstock VHS, and understood he took the guitar to unexplored territory. It felt like that's what I was witnessing as Morello performed. When you listen to them with headphones or in your car, you don't fully comprehend how some of those sounds are created. Seeing him yank the plug out of the jack of his instrument, then using it somewhat like a cello bow to make the noises you hear on the record was damn impressive. Other than that, I know there was a lot of energy exuded that night. Wish I could remember more. Though that might come flooding back to me when I see them next week in Cleveland nearly 30 years later.

I am grateful to have personally witnessed the high-octane holistic medicinal ballistic-spiked pure rushes of adrenaline Rage Against The Machine live at Fair Field in Dallas opening for U2 on their North American 'Pop' tour which also featured the Chelsea FC-supporting, internationally renowned maestro producer & iconic DJ, Paul Oakenfold. Most definitely amongst the best shows I've had the great pleasure to have experienced!

After bumping from 2020 to summer 2021, the Zack de la Rocha-led lyrical bomb-throwers will finally take the stage starting July 9 with a kick-off show at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin, before making their way across North America with stops in Chicago, Toronto, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and a five-night stand in New York.

The dates will then pick up again in early 2023 with another round of shows beginning with a Feb. 22 gig at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. That run of gigs will keep the band on the road through a planned two-night stand in Detroit at Little Caesars Arena in early April.

In a note the band said all tickets for the moved dates will be honored; fans who would prefer a refund have until March 15, 2022.

Rage Against The Machine cancel UK and European tour dates

rage against the machine tour uk 2022

2 minute read

American rock band Rage Against The Machine have cancelled their upcoming UK and European tour dates, after frontman Zack de la Rocha injured his leg during a performance.

The band had returned to performing last month after an 11-year absence, but de la Rocha injured his leg mid-way through a rescheduled show in Chicago.

De la Rocha had continued to perform with the band for the North American tour, which had originally been scheduled to begin in March 2020, but was seated for the remaining shows.

The band has now said that the frontman has been advised not to continue beyond their run of dates at Madison Square Garden in New York, which end on Sunday.

This means that Rage Against The Machine will not embark on their UK and European tour, which included two headline slots at Reading & Leeds festival.

In a statement on Instagram , the band said: “Per medical guidance, Zack de la Rocha has been advised that the August and September 2022 UK and European leg of the Rage Against The Machine tour cannot proceed. It is with great disappointment that we announce this cancellation.”

The statement added that the flights, travel time and rigorous schedule would be hinder a complete recovery for de la Rocha, and that fans should refer to their point of purchase of ticket refunds.

“We are so sorry to all of our fans who have waited years to see us and hope to Rage again soon,” added the band.

Rage Against The Machine have been forced to cancel the UK and European leg of their tour, including performances at Reading and Leeds festivals after their frontman was injured.

The band had been due to perform a string of dates in the UK and EU but were forced to call them off on ‘medical guidance’ after Zack De La Rocha sustained a leg injury on the second night of their North American tour last month in Chicago.

The band confirmed the cancellations on their official Twitter account, telling fans: ‘Per medical guidance, Zack De La Rocha has been advised that the August and September 2022 UK and European leg of the Rage Against The Machine tour cannot proceed.

‘It is with great disappointment that we announce this cancellation.’

They added: ‘Rage Against The Machine will be finishing their run at Madison Square Garden on August 11, 12 & 14 and then Zack must return home for rest and rehabilitation.

‘The flights, travel time and rigorous schedule in the UK and Europe are simply too much of a risk for a complete recovery.

‘We are so sorry to all of our fans who have waited years to see us and hope to Rage again soon. Please contact your point of purchase for refunds to any headline shows. Brad, Tim, Tom & Zack.’

Zack had injured his leg in the middle of the band’s Chicago show while performing Bullet In The Head.

He had briefly left the stage with the help of the crew but later returned to complete the show sitting down on a stage monitor.

The singer told the crowd at the time: ‘I don’t know what happened to my leg right now. But you know what? We’re gonna keep this f**king s**t going.

‘If I have to crawl across this stage, we’re gonna play for y’all tonight. We came too f**king far.’

Rage Against the Machine Cancel 2022 UK/European Tour “Per Medical Guidance” for Zack de la Rocha

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The post Rage Against the Machine Cancel 2022 UK/European Tour “Per Medical Guidance” for Zack de la Rocha appeared first on Consequence .

Rage Against the Machine have canceled their upcoming UK/European tour “per medical guidance” for injured frontman Zack de la Rocha.

The singer injured his leg four songs into the band’s set on July 11th in Chicago — the second show of the highly anticipated “Public Service Announcement Tour.” He’s been performing seated ever since. Overall, the trek has been a bit of a wild ride thus far — from recurring Guy Fieri sightings to an idiotic fan who rushed the stage and got tackled by a security guard who ended up knocking over Tom Morello .

According to a statement posted to Twitter , the band will wrap up its North American tour as planned on Sunday (August 14th) with its current multi-night stand at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The UK/European tour was supposed to kick off later this month and run throughout September. The full statement reads as follows:

“Per medical guidance, Zack de la Rocha has been advised that the August and September 2022 UK and European leg of the Rage Against the Machine tour cannot proceed. It is with great disappointment that we announce this cancellation.

Rage Against the Machine will be finishing their run at Madison Square Garden on August 11, 12 & 14 and then Zack must return home for rest and rehabilitation. The flights, travel time, and rigorous schedule in the UK and Europe are simply too much of a risk for a complete recovery.

We are so sorry to all of our fans who have waited years to see us and hope to Rage again soon.

Please contact your point of purchase for refunds to any headline shows.”

Fortunately, RATM’s 2023 North American tour dates remain confirmed. The jaunt with Run the Jewels is set to kick off February 22nd in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and runs through April 2nd in Detroit. Get tickets via Ticketmaster .
