Not a great first impression. Energetic band, but clearly using a backing track and some vocals mimed? Tiresome political hot takes too. I don't think I'll be seeing them again.

Absolutely loved these guys, such a great sound which is just as good live as it is recorded. Love the fact that they incorporate the violin in a metal band, but it doesn’t sound out of place. The vocal performance is great and they interact with the crowd. If you like their music then definitely go and see them live.

MUSIC INTERVIEW: Resolve
As they approach the deadline to release their second studio album Human , French metalcore outfit Resolve are feeling more human than ever before. Their debut album Between Me And The Machine cemented their identity of big breakdowns and even bigger melodies. But second time around Resolve have found their wings, expanding and experimenting with their sound while getting the most personal they have ever been on a body of work. Flying over to Radar Festival for their first ever UK festival appearance, we sat down with Resolve bassist Robin Mariat to talk all about the band’s sonic duality, Siamese being party animals and their Radar Festival expectations.
You recently released your latest single New Colours, taken from your upcoming album Human out in September. We think from all the singles we have heard so far, including the new one, they are all so sonically dynamic from each other whilst retaining what is at the core of Resolve’s identity – big breakdowns and big melodies. How do you go about incorporating new styles and genres into your music when making new tracks like New Colours?
With Resolve , we have always had a duality to our music. Some songs are very heavy and some songs are more upbeat. I think we want to keep it that way, because it doesn’t make the album boring. We have a lot of influences and we just want to have fun making a single or an album, and that’s exactly why we want to have this duality to our music.
Looking at the album in a broader context, Human thematically has the capacity to follow on seamlessly from your previous album Between Me And The Machine. The record seems to continue on detailing the thoughts, feelings and emotional connection of humans. Talk to us about expanding on this theme and really continuing on this storyline for the album.
Well with our first album being called Between Me And The Machine and now our second album being called Human , we wanted to convey a journey. This new album is definitely a lot more personal though, but it’s still very much a continuation of Between Me And The Machine . We have hidden some Easter eggs in there for fans and have incorporated similar lyrical ideas to the first album, but this time around it feels more human.
Before we get onto your impending set at Radar today, it wasn’t long ago you guys were on your co-headliner run with Siamese, which honestly seemed like the perfect package between you guys. Did that tour seem like the perfect fit for you guys too?
Funnily enough our favourite show on that tour was Manchester. But everyone on that tour was super sick, we connected really well with the support bands on that tour, but we love Siamese too. They are just party animals and are always in the best mood. We made a lot of friends on that tour.
Speaking of Radar, this is Resolve’s first ever time playing this festival and we think you have come at a good time, especially with the festival’s move up to this new venue in Manchester. What does that feel like for you guys playing a festival overseas for the first time? Is there any more pressure or nerves added because it’s a totally new environment for you, or does that make you more excited as a band to get out there and play?
Manchester is kind of our hometown for the UK so we have some expectations for tonight, because the last time we were here was at Rebellion on that Siamese tour. Radar is actually our first UK festival ever and the UK festival circuit in particular can be hard for European bands, as it’s a very closed touring circuit. But we were just walking around and seeing the places for the first time, and we are very happy to be here and very excited to be watching and playing on the same day as Periphery tonight.
Resolve ‘s new album Human is due for release on 15th September 2023 via Arising Empire , available to pre-order HERE .

What eventually became Buzz , the third studio album by singer-songwriter and globally-renowned star NIKI, started with an urgent quake from the innermost core of her being. What surfaced in its wake was a collection of warm, stirring folk-rock songs, which crackle and flare like a bonfire between close confidantes. “I went through an identity crisis,” says the 25-year-old of Buzz . “It took a lot of trial and error, and I just stumbled upon pieces of myself along the way. I named it Buzz because it feels like I’m on the precipice of something about to happen.”
For NIKI, things have been happening progressively since she was a high schooler in Jakarta, Indonesia. As a student at an international academy, she cut her teeth scribbling lovesick poems in English class and performed acoustic guitar covers of American pop songs on YouTube. With a six-string in hand, and her family and classmates cheering her on from the audience, Nicole Zefanya then staked her claim to global stardom as NIKI.
And claim it she has – with over three billion streams worldwide , sold out shows on multiple continents, massive sets at festivals across the globe, front row seats at Paris Fashion Week, four songs on a Marvel film’s soundtrack, and some of the most phenomenal, confessional songs being released in 2024, NIKI has already established a veteran’s resume before the age of 25.
On Buzz , her songwriting remains as intimate as ever. In her initial sketches of songs for Buzz , NIKI took cues from other lane-paving women with confessional, honest lyricism soundtracked by guitars. “Joni Mitchell is my songwriting north star,” she says — and uncompromising feminist luminaries like Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon and Liz Phair. To match the wandering spirit of Buzz , NIKI cultivated her own elastic approach to guitar.
To further harness this creative and personal sea change, NIKI began enlisting producers who had worked with her favorite contemporary singer-songwriters. She tapped Tyler Chester, who’d captured tracks with Madison Cunningham and Sara Bareilles; she also recruited Ethan Gruska, who counts Fiona Apple and Phoebe Bridgers as collaborators.
Buzz reverberates with the hard-earned wisdom of a young woman who charges dauntlessly towards her dreams — but can still spare a laugh if she stumbles.

The announcement of a tour comes after the singer’s release of her new single ‘Like I Say (I Runaway)’ . The song marked the first release from the singer-songwriter since her 2022 album ‘Painless’ .
In a three-star review of her previous record , NME wrote: “Even if ‘Painless’ occasionally settles into a consistent, thudding groove at times, when Yanya goes full pelt, she’s at her very best.”
Last year saw Yanya team up with Bombay Bicycle Club on the song ‘Meditate’ from the band’s latest album ‘My Big Day’ . She was praised by NME for adding a “personable touch” to the song.

What is the Grand Tour and where are Rob and Rylan visiting?
The pair visited a trio of italian cities while tracing the historic ‘gap year’ tour, article bookmarked.

TV personality Rylan Clark and broadcast barrister Rob Rinder have joined on-screen forces to show their friendship and frolicks through Italy in the new BBC Two series Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour.
The travel documentary has been a big hitter with fans since it aired on Sunday (12 May) as the two newly single stars – who share a divorce lawyer – journey as aristocrats-past to find enlightenment in sun-drenched Europe on their own Grand Tour.
Here’s where they headed and what they did – to inspire you to take your own Grand Tour.
What is the Grand Tour?
Billed as “the original package holiday”, the Grand Tour was a historic rite of passage that became the fashion for well-to-do Brits abroad in the 16th to 18th century.
Tourists, including Romantic poet Lord Byron who died 200 years ago, travelled the trail with other Grand Tourists, including young English aristocrats, leaving Britain’s high society to find freedom in Europe.
The coming-of-age ‘gap year’ custom usually crossed the English Channel into France before starting a route in Paris that lasted from several months to a year.
Often accompanied by a guide or tutor, lessons in art, culture, classical music and bad behaviour weaved through Italian cities, including Venice , Florence , Rome , Milan and Naples .
In 1789, the French Revolution marked the end of the nobleman’s pilgrimage – now being retraced by the TV duo.
Where did Rob and Rylan visit?
For their own Grand Tour, the two kicked things off on gondolas and glitzy speed boats in Venice before drinking in the art history of one of the largest paintings on canvas in the world, Tintoretto‘s Il Paradiso oil work in Doge’s Palace. During their version of a now more hidden Venetian hedonism Rob and Rylan donned drag on the city’s famed Grand Canal, visited Venetian lagoon island Murano for lessons in the craft of glass-blowing and indulged in a classical education. The itinerary even included a bucket-list dream of Rinder’s – conducting The Four Seasons in Antonio Vivaldi’s home city.
In the Italian city where “art changed the world”, Renaissance Florence introduced the pair to the Tour’s offal and cheese-based cuisine, including cow’s stomach – a far cry from Italian food as we know it. They also dabble in calcio storico, a savage football played by Florentines, and the art of Michelangelo’s David – a 5m tall sculptural masterpiece carved from 1501. The artwork of female Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi also stars in the Florence leg of Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour.
When in Rome , where Lord Byron galloped the streets 200 years ago, Italian painters Caravaggio and Guido are king. Dubbed ‘Little Westminster’ in the 18th century due to the volume of Grand Tourists visiting, Rome’s ancient remnants, specifically the Pantheon, were a highlight of the aristocrat’s gap year and opera was all the rage – particularly singers known as ‘castrati’ famous to Baroque Rome. Here, exaggerated ‘macaroni’ fashion became a favourite of the well-travelled British men spending months in Italy.
All three episodes of Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
