Game design [ ]

The user could start the program from one of three experience levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Experienced. As the game progressed, more options for customizing a ship and newer missions were available. Different "logins" were also available, allowing multiple users or multiple fleets to exist without drawing on the crew pool or credits of another login. The interface was modeled after the TNG era LCARS format, with Judi Durand providing the voice of the computer .

Screens [ ]

Class screen [ ].

From this screen, a user picked a class to build, or was able to manage and refit ships already added to the fleet. Different ships cost varying amounts of "credits," the Miranda -class being the cheapest and the Galaxy -class being the most expensive.

Structure screen [ ]

Upon the purchase of a ship hull, the ship whose hull had been purchased was added to the user's fleet inventory, and the user proceeded to the structure screen. Typically, there were three or four different prefabricated component designs for the primary hull , secondary hull , and warp nacelles of the ship which could be combined in any fashion, although parts from different classes could not be intermixed.

Assembly screen [ ]

This screen showed a three-dimensional representation of the ship, which could be inspected from any angle.

Naming screen [ ]

Once the user had chosen a satisfactory design for the ship being built, it was named and a five-digit registry number randomly assigned, or a four-digit one for the Constitution -class . The ship was then recorded into the fleet inventory.

Systems screen [ ]

For the Beginner and Intermediate levels, the new ship generally came already equipped with a number of vital systems; they could be further customized at the Intermediate level, but not to the extensiveness offered at the Experienced level. The user had to fit the ship with a number of vital systems, such as warp drive , impulse engines , life support , and a navigational deflector . Optional systems included shuttlecraft , weapons, and holodecks among other things. The systems were organized into main categories, such as propulsion, then into subsystems, like warp engine, warp core , impulse engine, and fusion reactor . Detailed information could be accessed concerning a particular system by selecting the "info" button. Certain systems, like engines or crew quarters, could only have one version of the component installed, while others, like sciences labs and torpedoes , could have a variety of different types and be installed in different numbers.

The success of a mission sometimes depended on the presence or absence of a system or component. For instance, a certain mission might have required the use of a class-8 probe . Additionally, one component generally depended on another; for example, a shuttle could not be launched without a shuttlebay , and a powerful warp drive could not be supplied by a weak warp core. Not all systems were available to all classes; small ships or ones with limited profiles like the Defiant -class only had a small choice of available systems, while large multipurpose systems such as the Galaxy -class had a large variety of subsystems.

Components also had a credit cost; more advanced and elaborate systems cost more than basic ones. Also, energy requirements prevented large amounts of equipment from being installed. A heavily-loaded ship would generally be much slower and less responsive than one with a more balanced complement.

Custom crewmembers could be created through import of a formatted text file and a *.bmp or *.pic image.

Crew screen [ ]

After a ship had been fitted with its on-board systems, personnel of a crew could be assigned. The crew screen had two aspects: a command-crew aspect and a complement-breakdown aspect.

Command-crew aspect [ ]

In the command-crew aspect of the crew screen, there were several available positions, including captain , first officer , science officer , chief engineer , chief medical officer , counselor , and communications officer . Only the assignments of a captain and a chief engineer were actually needed to make the vessel flyable, but missing personnel in other areas could harm mission performance. The user could select a variety of Starfleet personnel as crew, ranging from the main characters to minor characters from the four Star Trek series that existed at the time. (The game was released before Star Trek: Enterprise premiered.) Assigning them to a position had an associated credit cost based on the experience of the officer in a particular area; the more experienced the officers were in a position, the more expensive they were to recruit for that position.

Certain officers, mostly the main characters, were restricted to either the captain or first officer position and their position from their respective series; for instance, Geordi La Forge could only be placed in the captain, first officer, or chief engineer roles. Also, crews from the TOS and TNG eras could not be intermixed. The Constitution -class could only be crewed with TOS-era personnel and the Miranda class was restricted to one era or the other. Also, crewmembers could be assigned to multiple ships within the same fleet.

The Biographies of available characters that have been killed in canon, such as Lieutenant Tasha Yar 's, either omit or contradict details of their untimely demise.

Complement-breakdown aspect [ ]

The other aspect of the crew screen, the complement-breakdown aspect, allowed the user to devote a certain percentage of crew to different disciplines, such as command, sciences, security, medical, and operations. The number of personnel in the crew complement was determined by the number of crew quarters units that had been installed at the Systems screen.

Fleet screen [ ]

All vessels in the fleet could be managed from this screen. A summary of the ship's systems and assigned crew could be reviewed, reports from past missions accessed, a new mission selected, and vessels selected for refit, repair, or decommission. Once a ship was taken to this point, it was possible to go back to each and every previous screen and modify each of the parameters. Once a ship was decommissioned, the appropriate amount of credits were refunded to the user account. Also, custom missions could be imported, while ships could be exported to a file for import within another login or transfer to another computer. This ability was the source of a cheat, as the same ship could be imported and decommissioned multiple times, in each instance refunding the same amount of credits to the user's account.

Mission screen [ ]

After a mission had been selected from the fleet screen, it was run from here. The ship traveled across a two-dimensional grid, while symbols and icons related to the mission appeared on the grid. Systems activity and communications between the crew were listed in a dialog box to the bottom of the screen. A pop-up window could be opened which showed damage and injury reports and systems status and efficiency.

Sometimes, the main grid would cut away to different animations related to the mission. The mission could be run in real time or slightly accelerated. If a ship entered battle or a hazardous situation, it could take damage. That damage would remain until repaired; faster repairs could be effected if a more experienced engineer or larger crew complement had been assigned aboard. Crew members, including senior officers, could be injured as well; again, their recovery depended on the skill of the chief medical officer, the sickbay technology available, and the number of medical staff. Severe injuries could result in death, which would remove the crew member from the roster on the crew screen and assignment on other starships.

Very little input was needed from the user since the mission scripts were not designed to be interactive; the mission simply ran until completion or until a systems failure or lack of equipment caused the mission to end. The mission could be aborted at any time, returning the user to the fleet screen. Also, the program could be minimized and left to run in a small window, called "stealth mode." Upon successful completion of the mission, the user was given the choice to keep the ship at its present location or return it to the home starbase; a certain amount of credits were also deposited in the user's account.

Customization [ ]

In addition to the aforementioned ability to import custom crewmembers, a user could also script custom missions. The program came with full instructions on how to create missions using Starship Markup Language or SML. A mission could be written with SML, saved to a text file, and then imported into the program under the Mission screen.

Follow-ups [ ]

Star Trek Starship Creator Deluxe

Cover art for the deluxe version

The basic Starship Creator program was followed by an add-on pack, reissued with the original Starship Creator as Star Trek: Starship Creator Deluxe. (The add-on pack could also be purchased on a separate CD which required the original Starship Creator program.) New features included three new starship classes – Akira , Oberth , and Prometheus , several new missions, the ability to assign custom registry numbers, the ability to import .jpg file types for crew portraits, new commands for custom missions, the ability to run two ships on the same mission simultaneously (yet independently), and a number of bug fixes which had plagued the original program engine.

Warp II [ ]

In 2000, a new edition, called Star Trek: Starship Creator Warp II , was released. The program was quite similar to the original Starship Creator but featured a number of new features and a slightly rearranged ship lineup. However, ships and missions that had been created for the original Starship Creator were fully compatible with Warp II, and they could be used by importing certain files from the original CDs. In Warp II it was also possible to export the created ships and import them into Dominion Wars .

Build Your Own Starfleet With These Customized 3D-Printed Star Trek Ships

In Star Trek Online, aspiring captains can take the helm of one of more than 400 different ships that can be further personalized with custom color schemes, materials, shields, and capabilities. And now thanks to Eucl3D , a 3D printing company, those ships can be brought into the real world.

Related Content

If you’ve spent countless hours, weeks, even years, playing Star Trek Online, it only makes sense that you’d find yourself feeling a certain attachment to the ship you’ve commanded all that time. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed for the new service, but using full-color 3D printers—the closest thing we have to Star Trek’s replicators—Eucl3D will turn it into a 12-inch replica you can proudly display on your desk. Or, more likely, fly around your office while making warp engine sound effects.

You’ll have to look real close at these models to see the telltale signs of 3D printing: those subtle lines created during the additive layering process. But otherwise there appears to be a tremendous amount of detailing reproduced, and each ship includes a display stand. There’s no word on availability yet, or if you have to be a registered Star Trek Online player to order one. But hopefully anyone can visit the Eucl3D site and create the Starfleet ship they’ve been envisioning since they were a little kid.

3D Print Your Ship - Available Today!

By Ambassador Kael | Thu 15 Mar 2018 08:56:22 AM PDT

star trek starship creator online

Do you have a favorite ship in Star Trek Online? The one that’s always carried you through, no matter how tough the fight? The one that you’ve lovingly built and rebuilt again and again, chasing that perfect set up, and just the right colors? The ship that you proudly call your home among the stars? We’re happy to announce that, starting today, Captains all over the world can begin the process of bringing that ship to life. You’ll be able to order a 3D printed, high quality collectible of your ship to keep with you at work, at home, or wherever you want to see the ship you love.

Here’s how it works: Ready the starship you want printed, and head to the ship tailor. You’ll find a brand new button that reads, “3D Print This Ship.” Clicking on this will bring you to the option to learn more about this process, or to print this ship. Once you’ve chosen to print the ship, it’ll upload directly to our partner, Mixed Dimensions. You’ll be able to pick from three different options:

  • Base Price: $350
  • Captains can commission one of the company’s master artists to hand-paint a premium, full-colored resin model of their starship, which includes detailed shading. Exceptional artistry and focus is placed on each individual ship.
  • Base Price: $225
  • Captains can order a 3D-printed model of their starship, painted in either gold, silver, bronze or black. The model is polished, finished and ready for display.
  • Base price: $200
  • Model painters and hobbyists can order a primed model of their favorite starship, coated in a base layer of primer and ready to be painted.

*Please note that costs for all three options may vary according to ship size and customizations. A stand will be included with every order and all ships will be delivered in customized packaging.

To celebrate the launch of Star Trek Online’s starship collectibles, Mixed Dimensions will offer introductory pricing for a limited time. Please visit http://www.gameprint.net/startrek  for additional details.

star trek starship creator online

Interested in more information on the process? We’ll be holding an AMA on our Official Forums and the Star Trek Online subreddit  to answer your questions on Friday, March 16th at 10am PT.

Since every customized starship is individually crafted and hand-painted, these ships will only be created in batches of 100 units at a time. When players place their order with Mixed Dimensions, they will be notified of the estimated time it will take to create and deliver their starship. In addition, captains will also receive photo updates of their ships in real time, notifying them when their collectibles have been printed and painted.

For those who don’t have access to the PC version of Star Trek Online, Mixed Dimensions will be offering completed models, replicating 20 of the game’s most popular starships. These hand-painted starship collectibles will be available soon.

There is a small selection of ships that will not be offered as 3D Prints. Those ships are:

  • Crossfield-class Science Vanguard
  • Walker-class Light Exploration Cruiser
  • Sarcophagus Dreadnought Carrier
  • Vesta-class Multi-Mission Surveillance Explorer
  • Herald Baltim Raider
  • Herald Quas Flight Deck Cruiser
  • Herald Vonph Dreadnought Carrier
  • Na'kuhl Acheros Battlecruiser
  • Na'kuhl Daemosh Science Vessel
  • Na'kuhl Tadaari Raider
  • Sphere Builder Arehbes Destroyer
  • Sphere Builder Denuos Dreadnought Carrier
  • Sphere Builder Edoulg Science Vessel
  • Tholian Tarantula Dreadnought Cruiser
  • Son'a Collector Science Dreadnought

  • Delta-class Shuttle
  • Atrium: Forest, Islands
  • Saucer: Vesta
  • Hull: Vesta, Rademaker, Brigid
  • Nacelles: Vesta
  • Stanchions: Vesta
  • Saucer: Horizon

With our huge selection of ships and the complex export process involved, players may find that printing is disabled for other ships.  If you are unable to print a ship that is not on the above list, please let us know on our official forums. That maybe a technical issue we can resolve in the future. Please also note: Captains who use Lighting 1.0 will not be able to 3D print a ship at this time. If you are able to switch to 2.0 long enough to export the ship, you will still be able to.

Shipping is available in most of North America, Europe, Australia and several other territories. For a list of countries where shipping is unavailable due to international restrictions, please visit the FAQ section of the Mixed Dimensions website. In addition, customers who place orders outside of the United States may be responsible for taxes and/or dues required by law within their territory.

We can’t wait for you all to get the chance to own a high quality collectible of the ships that have carried you through eight years of Star Trek Online. We’ll see you in game.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MATERIALS USED FOR MANUFACTURING THE 3D MODELS MAKE THE 3D MODELS SUITABLE ONLY FOR DECORATIVE PURPOSES AND THEY ARE NOT SUITED FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE. THE 3D MODELS ARE NOT SUITED TO BE USED AS  TOY S, OR TO BE GIVEN TO CHILDREN. THE 3D MODELS SHOULD NOT COME IN CONTACT WITH ELECTRICITY OR FOOD OR LIQUIDS AND SHOULD BE KEPT AWAY FROM HEAT.

What is star trek.

Star Trek is a science fiction universe that started as television series. The original series is from the 60s but since then they made quite a few more series, films, novels, games, etc. The original series, and also quite a few of the sequels, are based on the crew of a starship exploring the galaxies.

Some of the series and characters are:

Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS, 3 seasons) tells the adventures of the crew of starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) while exploring the galaxies. Captain James T. Kirk (played by William Shatner), Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Doctor McCoy (played by Jackson DeForest Kelley), Scotty (James Doohan), Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) and Hikaru Sulu (played by George Takei) are some of the members of the crew.

Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG, 7 seasons) tells the stories of the crew of USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) a different ship than the previous and also a century after The Original Series. Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Steward), William Riker (played by Jonathan Frakes), Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), Worf (Michael Dorn), Beverly Crusher (played by Gates McFadden), Deanna Troi (Martina Sirtis), Data (Brent Spiner) and Wesley Crusher (will Wheaton) are some of the staff on the starship.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9, 7 seasons) is based on a space station rather than a starship. It overlaps with the last years of The Next Generation series. Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks), Major Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor), Constable Odo (played by René Auberjonois), Worf (Michael Dorn), Quark (played by Armin Shimerman) and Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) are some of the crew members on the space station.

Star Trek: Voyager (7 seasons) tells the story of the ship USS Voyager that gets transported to a distant region of the universe and have a trip of 75 years to come back home. It happens roughly at the same time as Deep Space Nine. Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), Chakotay (Robert Beltran), B'Elanna Torres (played by Roxann Dawson), Neelix (Ethan Phillips), The Doctor (played by Robert Picardo), Tuvok (Tim Russ) and Seven of Nine (played by Jeri Ryan) are some of the crew members and main characters of the series.

Star Trek: Enterprise (4 seasons) is a prequel to The Original Series and tells the stories of the crew of the Enterprise (NX-01). Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula), T'Pol (played by Jolene Blalock), Phlox (John Billingsley) and Hoshi Sato (played by Linda Park) are some of the crew members of the starship.

Star Trek: Discovery is a direct prequel set about 10 years earlier to The Original Series and it is based on what happens to Lt. Commander Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green). Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs), Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Saru (played by Doug Jones), Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Hugh Culber (played by Wilson Cruz), Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) and Ash Tyler / Voq (played by Shazad Latif) are some of the characters she encounters during the series.

Star Trek: Picard happens some time after The Next Generation and focuses on the character of Jean-Luc Picard. Jean-Luc Picard (played by Patrick Stewart), Dr. Agnes Jurati (Alison Pill), Soji Asha (Isa Briones), Elnor (played by Evan Evagora) and Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) are some of the other characters on the series.

Any way to force this to run windowed?

I got it from an Iomega ZIP. In addition to Rekordit, this game was also included on a 100mb disk. A Quicktime was installed under Win98.

How do you play this game without the CD disk on windows 10?

CuriousCursor 2020-02-24 6 points

To fix the choppy sound issues, you'll want to upgrade QuickTime. DON'T uninstall the version included with the ISO, though, since the game looks for this version specifically when it loads, and won't even try to run if it doesn't find it. Instead, what you need to do is to install the updated version of QuickTime on top of it. Check OldVersion(dot)com for different versions to test. Version 6.52 worked for me, but YMMV. Whatever version you go with, make sure you include QuickDraw 3D in the components you install, or the game will complain about not being able to render all the ship displays. Because of this, I don't recommend any version of QuickTime 7, since Apple stopped using QD3D around the time of that update. Good luck.

Original ‘Star Trek’ Enterprise Model Is Found After Being Missing for Decades

The 33-inch model surfaced on eBay after disappearing around 1979. An auction house is giving it to the son of Gene Roddenberry, the creator of “Star Trek.”

  • Share full article

A model of the U.S.S. Enterprise stands on a wooden base against a black backdrop.

By Emily Schmall

The first model of the U.S.S. Enterprise, the starship that appeared in the opening credits of the original “Star Trek” television series , has been returned to Eugene Roddenberry Jr., the son of the creator of the series, decades after it went missing.

“After a long journey, she’s home,” Mr. Roddenberry wrote on social media on Thursday.

For die-hard Trekkies, the model’s disappearance had become the subject of folklore, so an eBay listing last fall, with a starting bid of $1,000, didn’t go unnoticed.

“Red alert,” someone in an online costume and prop-making forum wrote, linking to the listing.

Mr. Roddenberry’s father, Gene Roddenberry, created the television series, which first aired in 1966 and ran for three seasons. It spawned numerous spinoffs, several films and a franchise that has included conventions and legions of devoted fans with an avid interest in memorabilia.

The seller of the model was bombarded with inquiries and quickly took the listing down.

The seller contacted Heritage Auctions to authenticate it, the auction house’s executive vice president, Joe Maddalena, said on Saturday. As soon as the seller, who said he had found it in a storage unit, brought it to the auction house’s office in Beverly Hills, Calif., Mr. Maddalena said he knew it was real.

“That’s when I reached out to Rod to say, ‘We’ve got this. This is it,’” he said, adding that the model was being transferred to Mr. Roddenberry.

Mr. Roddenberry, who is known as Rod, said on Saturday that he would restore the model and seek to have it displayed in a museum or other institution. He said reclaiming the item had only piqued his interest in the circumstances about its disappearance.

“Whoever borrowed it or misplaced it or lost it, something happened somewhere,” he said. “Where’s it been?”

It was unclear how the model ended up in the storage unit and who had it before its discovery.

The original U.S.S. Enterprise, a 33-inch model, was mostly made of solid wood by Richard C. Datin, a model maker for the Howard Anderson Company, a special-effects company that created the opening credits for some of the 20th century’s biggest TV shows .

An enlarged 11-foot model was used in subsequent “Star Trek” television episodes, and is now part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum , where it was donated by Paramount Studios in 1974.

Mr. Roddenberry, who said he gave the seller a “reward” for its recovery but did not disclose the terms, assembled a group of “Star Trek” production veterans, model makers and restoration specialists in Beverly Hills to authenticate the find.

The group included a “Star Trek” art supervisor, Michael Okuda, and his wife, Denise, an artist on “Star Trek” television series and films, and Gary Kerr, a “Trek x-pert” who served as technical consultant for the Smithsonian during a 2016 restoration of the 11-foot model.

“We spent at least an hour photographing it, inspecting the paint, inspecting the dirt, looking under the base, the patina on the stem, the grain in the wood,” Mr. Roddenberry said.

“It was a unanimous ‘This is 100 percent the one,’” he said.

Gene Roddenberry, who died in 1991 , kept the original model, which appeared in the show’s opening credits and pilot episode, on his desk.

Mr. Kerr compared the model to 1960s photos he had of the model on Mr. Roddenberry’s desk.

“The wood grain matched exactly, so that was it,” he said on Saturday.

The model went missing after Mr. Roddenberry lent it to the makers of “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” which was released in 1979, Mr. Maddalena said.

“This is a major discovery,” he said, likening the model to the ruby slippers from “The Wizard of Oz,” a prop that was stolen in 2005 and recovered by the F.B.I. in 2018, and that Heritage Auctions is selling.

While the slippers represent hope, he said, the starship Enterprise model “represents dreams.”

“It’s a portal to what could be,” he said.

8 Coolest Starships in Star Trek: The Original Series

Star Trek: The Original Series held plenty of impressively creative starships, used by a variety of different alien life, and enjoyed by fans.

  • Star Trek: TOS starships range from bizarre to iconic, showcasing the creativity and innovation of the show's artists and creators.
  • The Tholian Starship and Romulan Bird-Of-Prey are among the many unique vessels encountered by Captain Kirk during his galactic explorations.
  • The USS Enterprise, designed by artist Matt Jefferies, remains the most well-recognized starship in popular culture due to its innovative appearance.

Star Trek: The Original Series features some memorable quotes , uncanny aliens, and plenty of questionable fashion choices. Yet one of the show's most important aspects is its starships, which are used to both explore the galaxy and confront its various threats.

Star Trek: James T. Kirk's Best Friends, Ranked

Technical and budgetary limitations meant that many Star Trek : TOS starships were depicted as smears of light; luckily, the 2007–2008 remasters enhanced the show's visual diversity. As such, the weird and wonderful vessels encountered by Captain Kirk owe as much to the artists who worked on the remasters as they do their original creators. From doomsday weapons to massive flagships, The Original Series is full of inventive designs.

8 Lazarus' Ship

First appearance: "the alternative factor" (season 1, episode 27).

While TOS features some classic episodes , not all installments can be winners, as demonstrated by "The Alternative Factor". This first-season clunker sees the Enterprise crew dealing with two versions of the same man, Lazarus, from different planes of existence—if the two men touch, the universe goes boom.

The silly premise is not without its silver lining. Lazarus' dimension-hopping vessel is a brilliant piece of sci-fi kitsch thanks to its bubble-dome cockpit and retrofuturistic styling. This cute starship is also one of the most technically advanced to appear in the series: the Enterprise may travel through space (and sometimes time), but Lazarus' ship is a rare example of a craft that can move through dimensions.

7 The Planet Killer

First appearance: "the doomsday machine" (season 2, episode 6).

Long before Star Wars tested the destructive potential of the Death Star on Alderaan, Star Trek had its own planet-busting superweapon. Kirk's Enterprise crosses paths with the so-called Planet Killer while attempting to recover a damaged Starfleet ship, the USS Constitution . The only surviving member of the Constitution 's crew, Commodore Decker, explains that he has been investigating several ruined star systems, and that the Planet Killer is responsible for their destruction.

Star Trek: 6 Worst Things Done By The Federation, Ranked

The Planet Killer's antiproton beam represents one of the franchise's most devastating offensive technologies, easily disabling a top-of-the-line Constitution -class starship. The motives of the Planet Killer are more obscure—however, various Star Trek novels and comics have offered their own explanations for the powerful vessel. According to one questionably canon source, the Planet Killer was designed as an anti-Borg superweapon, while another novel sees the damaged ship reactivated and used to destroy an enhanced Borg cube. Whatever its purpose, it represents one of the greatest threats to the Federation.

6 Tholian Starship

First appearance: "the tholian web" (season 3, episode 9).

The Tholians are one of Star Trek 's most mysterious races. These apparently crystalline arachnids appear in only three of the franchise's more than nine hundred episodes, but this lack of screen time does nothing to detract from the threat posed by these xenophobic aliens.

"The Tholian Web" sees the Enterprise investigating the wreckage of another starship, the USS Defiant , which appears to be phasing in and out of existence. However, the Enterprise finds itself snared in the eponymous Tholian web when two alien starships weave an energy field around the Federation vessel. Although the Enterprise is able to escape, narrowly avoiding capture or destruction by this bizarre alien power, fans are sure to remember the unusual vessels responsible for Kirk's predicament.

5 The Fesarius

First appearance: "the corbomite maneuver" (season 1, episode 10).

The spherical Fesarius encountered by the Enterprise in "The Corbomite Maneuver" is the flagship of the First Federation (not to be confused with the United Federation of Planets). Its unusual, simplistic design sets it apart from the sleeker ships usually seen in the series; in many ways, it is a more rounded precursor to the Borg cube seen in The Next Generation . However, luckily for Kirk and his crew, the Fesarius is more interested in exploration than assimilation.

6 Biggest Retcons To Star Trek History

In addition to its impressive appearance, the Fesarius is also home to the alien Balok, played by Clint Howard. This was Howard's first Trek role—he would go on to make frequent appearances throughout the franchise, most recently in a 2023 episode of Strange New Worlds . The Fesarius itself would also reappear, albeit off-screen, as the ship plays a central role in a Shatner-authored novel and a Star Trek: Voyager short story.

4 Eymorg Starship

First appearance: "spock's brain" (season 3, episode 1).

To call "Spock's Brain" divisive is perhaps being too kind to an episode that many fans consider as the nadir of The Original Series . This campy caper involves the theft of Spock's brain (his body is turned into a robot by Doctor McCoy) and a race against time to retrieve the organ from the mysterious Eymorg civilization . Fred Frieburger, who helped to write the episode, is often accused of ruining Gene Roddenberry's utopian series—based on "Spock's Brain", the fans might be right.

However, even the worst episodes can feature interesting starships. The Eymorg vessel responsible for abducting Spock's brain is an inspired design that perfectly fits the show's bold, retrofuturistic aesthetic. There are two different versions of the Eymorg ship: a rocket-shaped vessel seen in the original episode, and a more spherical design created for the TOS remasters. Of the two, the latter is more interesting, as it draws upon contemporary ion-powered spaceships while retaining the classic sixties feel.

3 Romulan Bird-Of-Prey

First appearance: "balance of terror" (season 1, episode 14).

The Next Generation 's D'deridex-class warbirds maybe Star Trek 's most memorable take on Romulan starships, but the precursors seen in The Original Series are also worthy of examination. The hull and nacelles combination of the warbird recalls the design of many Federation ships—indeed, a line of dialogue cut from "Balance of Terror" suggested that the Romulans had stolen the blueprints from the Federation. The Bird-of-Prey encountered by Kirk in the Neutral Zone is more than capable of taking on the Enteprise , and is even superior in some respects.

For example, the Bird-of-Prey possesses cloaking technology, allowing it to conceal itself from enemy vessels. This makes the starship ideal for sneak attacks and hit-and-run strikes against the Federation, a strategy perfectly suited to the scheming Romulans. Furthermore, its arsenal of nuclear warheads may be relatively old-fashioned, but it is nonetheless effective.

2 Klingon D7 Cruiser

First appearance: "day of the dove (season 3, episode 7).

Despite being one of Star Trek 's most iconic starships, the Klingon D7 cruiser is rarely seen in The Original Series as broadcast. Indeed, the recognizable model is absent until the show's final season, as Klingon ships are instead represented by indistinct smears on the Enterprise 's screen. This shortcoming is remedied in the noughties remasters of the series, which insert CGI models of the cruiser into several earlier episodes.

8 Coolest Starships From Star Trek: The Next Generation

The D7 is primarily associated with the Klingon Empire , but this well-armed vessel also sees service under the Romulan Star Empire. For instance, a D7 is one of several Romulan-aligned ships that confronts Kirk's starship during "The Enterprise Incident", suggesting an alliance of sorts between the Klingon and Romulan states. Like many other ships under Romulan control, the D7 possesses a cloaking device, making it a deadly threat to the Federation.

1 USS Enterprise

First appearance: "the cage" (unaired pilot).

The Starship Enterprise has undergone numerous redesigns and reiterations since its debut in The Original Series , but Kirk's version of the Federation starship remains the most well-recognized version in popular culture. This is due, in part, to the hero ship's innovative appearance—Gene Roddenberry's design rules prevented the vessel from being just another generic flying saucer.

Yet few people deserve more credit for the Enterprise 's design than artist Matt Jefferies, who played a crucial role in crafting the Constitution -class starship. Jefferies' finest work has come to define the franchise, with this version of the Enterprise appearing throughout the Star Trek canon. Of all the ships to appear in The Original Series (and in Trek ) as a whole, none is more iconic than Kirk's USS Enterprise .

Kirks Starship Enterprise Returns In Star Trek: Discovery - With A Big Twist

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, Episode 5 - "Mirrors"

  • The Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise, last seen in Star Trek: The Original Series' "Mirror, Mirror," makes a shocking return in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5.
  • Star Trek: Discovery filmed scenes on the USS Enterprise set of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
  • The ISS Enterprise now exists in the 32nd century, offering a new glimpse into the alternate reality of the Mirror Universe.

Captain James T. Kirk's (William Shatner) Starship Enterprise makes a shocking return in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5, but with a jaw-dropping twist - it's the ISS Enterprise from Star Trek: The Original Series ' "Mirror, Mirror"! Written by Johanna Lee & Carlos Cisco and directed by Jen McGowan, Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5, "Mirrors," sees Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Cleveland Booker (David Ajala) enter interdimensional space to pursue Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis) and the next clue to the Progenitors' ancient treasure. What Burnham and Book never expected to find was the Mirror Universe's derelict ISS Enterprise.

Star Trek: Discovery picked up the mantle of the Mirror Universe from Star Trek: The Original Series , Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , and Star Trek; Enterprise. Discovery 's season 1's game-changing Mirror Universe arc introduced Emperor Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), who would enter Star Trek 's Prime Universe and is now headlining Paramount+'s upcoming Star Trek: Section 31 movie. Star Trek: Discovery deepened the saga of the Mirror Universe, but the alternate reality's final appearance was in Star Trek: Discovery season 3. Thanks to Star Trek 's Temporal Wars , it's now impossible for the Prime and Mirror Universes to cross over in Star Trek: Discovery 's 32nd century.

Individuals who both time travel and cross from Star Trek' s Prime and Mirror Universes suffer a lethal medical condition, such as what happened to Emperor Georgiou.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Returning Cast & New Character Guide

Star trek: discovery brings back kirks mirror universe starship enterprise, the iss enterprise last appeared in star trek: the original series' "mirror, mirror".

The Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5 is the same Constitution Class starship from Star Trek: The Original Series season 2, episode 4, "Mirror, Mirror," which was the ISS Enterprise's only prior canonical appearance. The ISS Enterprise was trapped in interdimensional space and abandoned by its crew, who were refugees and freedom fighters attempting to flee the Mirror Universe for Star Trek 's Prime Universe in the 24th century. As Captain Burnham later learned, the refugees made it to the Prime Universe, and one scientist even became a Starfleet Admiral.

In Star Trek: Enterprise season 4's "In A Mirror, Darkly", the 22nd-century Terran Empire gained control of the Constitution Class USS Defiant, which crossed over and time traveled from the 23rd-century Prime Universe.

In Star Trek: The Original Series ' "Mirror, Mirror", the ISS Enterprise was commanded by Captain James T. Kirk who assassinated its prior Captain, Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter). "Mirror, Mirror" saw the Prime Universe's Kirk, Lt. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), Dr. Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley), and Scotty (James Doohan) switch places with their Mirror counterparts due to a transporter accident during an ion storm. Before switching back, Prime Kirk planted a seed with the goateed Mirror Spock (Leonard Nimoy) to take control of the Terran Empire and institute reforms to prevent the inevitable destruction of the Empire.

Mirror Spock's reforms were successful but ultimately weakened the Terran Empire, which was conquered by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance, as seen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Star Trek: Discovery Filmed Season 5s Enterprise On Strange New Worlds Set

Star trek: strange new worlds was on hiatus after season 2..

Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5, "Mirrors", was filmed on the USS Enterprise set of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds . When Discovery season 5 was in production in late 2022, Strange New Worlds was on hiatus after completing season 2 filming in June . ( Strange New Worlds wouldn't begin season 3 production until December 2023.) Sonequa Martin-Green, David Ajala, Eve Harlow, and Elias Toufexis shot on Strange New Worlds ' sets, which are located in Toronto where Star Trek: Discovery also filmed.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is in production, and the series has been renewed for season 4.

Star Trek: Discovery redressed Strange New Worlds ' USS Enterprise set to become the ISS Enterprise. Scenes were filmed on the Enterprise's bridge, hallways, and medical bay. Interestingly, by using Strange New Worlds ' Enterprise set, which depicts the USS Enterprise before Captain Kirk assumes command, Star Trek: Discovery season 5 establishes that the ISS Enterprise, which crossed into the Prime Universe decades after Star Trek: The Original Series , is the same ship as in "Mirror, Mirror" despite the very different interiors.

Star Trek: Enterprise recreated the sets of Star Trek: The Original Series ' USS Enterprise for the interiors of the USS Defiant.

What Happens To Mirror Universes Enterprise In Star Trek: Discovery?

The 32nd century just got another 23rd-century starship.

Captain Burnham and Cleveland Booker piloted the ISS Enterprise out of interdimensional space and into Star Trek 's Prime Universe with the help of the USS Discovery. Afterward, Burnham assigned Lt. Commanders Kayla Detmer (Emily Coutts) and Joann Owosekun (Oyin Oladejo) to fly the ISS Enterprise to Federation headquarters, so that the Mirror Universe's starship could be put into "storage". However, there are now fascinating ramifications to the ISS Enterprise existing in Star Trek: Discovery 's 32nd century .

Amazingly, the ISS Enterprise is also now the second 23rd-century starship in 3191 along with the USS Discovery itself.

Although the ISS Enterprise is obsolete by 32nd-century standards, it's still a bonanza of Mirror Universe technology that the United Federation of Planets has now acquired . This would certainly be of interest to Dr. Kovich (David Cronenberg). The 23rd-century ISS Enterprise is a window not just to 900 years ago, but also to the alternate reality, especially since the Mirror Universe is now sealed off permanently from the Federation. Amazingly, the ISS Enterprise is also now the second 23rd-century starship in 3191 along with the USS Discovery itself. Perhaps the ISS Enterprise will reappear and play a role in the second half of Star Trek: Discovery season 5.
