A Mount Teide Tour with cable car that has everything you need

On this organised Mount Teide Tour with cable car return tickets with a digital audio guide of the trails , you’ll discover Teide National Park : the most visited national park in Europe. You’ll also be visiting the park in a sustainable way.

From the comfort of our bus and accompanied by an official guide , you will discover scenery that will leave you wide-eyed with wonder as you ascend towards the peak. Because Tenerife is an enormous mountain in the middle of the ocean. Its roads climb to reach the heart of the island: Mount Teide. Along the way, you will pass through different bioclimatic levels.

As you leave the coast, made barren by endless sunshine, the proximity of the sea and the lack of rain, you will enter the mid-altitude zone . This contains the finest agricultural land, chosen by the European settlers as the site for Tenerife’s historic towns. A series of towns is strung like a necklace at a mid altitude of between 400 and 500 metres above sea level: Arona, La Orotava, Santiago del Teide… All still conserve a historical legacy worth discovering.

If your Teide excursion takes you up the north side, the likelihood is that from 600 metres above sea level you will be engulfed by dense fog. You will be in the belt below the area of direct impact of the moist trade winds that blow in from the north-east, forming a sea of cloud . Here, laurel woods clothe the scenery in a rich green colour, and you will feel a coolness that will make you reach for your coat. Soon, at an altitude of 1,000 metres, the laurel woods give way to dense, humid pine forests, that extend up to 2,000 metres. But if your ascent takes you up the south side, where the sea of cloud struggles to form, you’ll be in the pine forest from an altitude of 600 metres.

When you reach the high mountain area, you will see the sea of cloud at your feet, and you will feel as if you are flying above it. The flora of Las Cañadas comprises broom, laburnum and a vast array of other plants, most of them endemic to these peaks. Here, the extreme climate, with significant fluctuations between summer and winter, and even between day and night, determines the pattern of life. Scrub clothes the slopes of the Las Cañadas cirque, and those of Mount Teide itself. But as you make your way towards the peak, it gradually disappears... Only the beautiful Teide violet survives at 3,000 metres on the volcano.

And throughout your trip to Mount Teide, you will see the volcanoes that formed Tenerife, some as old as the island itself, and others more recent.

Furthermore, since cable car tickets to go up Mount Teide are already included, you don’t have to worry about missing the chance to book your seat. We have thought of everything so that you can enjoy your Teide Tour without worrying about a thing!

Enjoy spectacular views of Tenerife and some of the neighbouring islands on this excursion to ascend Mount Teide

Our Teide Tour includes tickets for the ascent and descent with a digital audio guide of the trails to take you up to an altitude of 3,555 metres so that you can enjoy stunning views of Tenerife and some of the neighbouring islands, whilst at the same time seeing one of the world’s most extraordinary volcanic landscapes. On Las Cañadas, you will see different types of lava and volcanic rock formations, beginning with Mount Teide itself, a stratovolcano of the Vesuvian type .

Mount Teide was formed gradually, as eruption followed eruption. Each eruption added another level to the volcanic edifice. Mount Teide began as a small volcanic cone at the base of Las Cañadas 150,000 years ago, and reached a height of 3,718 metres 1,000 years ago, when its most recent eruptions occurred; these formed the current peak and the streams of black lava that flow down its slopes. Now Mount Teide is the highest peak in the Atlantic region, the highest peak in Spain, and the third highest volcano on Earth measured from the sea bed, from where it reaches a height of 7,500 metres.

When you reach the cable car upper station, you can choose which views you’d like to enjoy and which audio guide tracks to listen to:

  • Admire Siete Cañadas and the Ucanca valley from La Rambleta viewpoint
  • Follow the La Fortaleza trail and enjoy spectacular views of northern Tenerife
  • Choose the Pico Viejo viewpoint trail and admire views of southern Tenerife with the impressive 800-m-diameter Pico Viejo crater at your feet and, if the weather permits, the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma on the horizon.

Come on a Mount Teide Tour with cable car and visit Mount Teide in a sustainable way

Forget the car and contribute to a sustainable Teide . By reducing atmospheric pollution, you can help in the fight against climate change.

By choosing group transport you’ll help to beat overcrowding in the vehicle parking zones inside the National Park which, as a conservation measure, are small and unsuitable for expansion.

Did you know that by choosing to visit the National Park and ascend Mount Teide by cable car on this excursion you can forget having to circle around in your car until you find a parking space?

Can you imagine a better excursion than this Mount Teide Tour with cable car?

We already know which will be your favourite excursion: Mount Teide Tour in Tenerife!

Live the Teide Legend at the Teide “Science and Legend” exhibition!

The Teide Tour with Cable Car Tickets includes free admission to the “Science and Legend” exhibition which you will find at the Teide Cable Car Visitors’ Centre.

Teide Legend Exhibition included in the cable car ticket

You will learn about Mount Teide’s last major eruption (around 1,000 years ago) which the indigenous Guanches probably interpreted as a fight between mythological deities —an explanation far removed from that which science now attributes to volcanic eruptions.

The characters of the legend of Guayota, both gods and humans, will show you their vision of the stages of the eruption that took place back then, and which formed the pylon at the summit of Mount Teide, known locally as “el tapón del Teide” [the Teide cap]. A magical story in which good and evil join in an epic battle. Along with the legend, you will be shown reliable data to illustrate the scientific interpretation of the eruption. Although the two perspectives may seem diametrically opposed, they are in fact closely connected.

In addition, you can have a great time at our Visitors’ Centre, where you can find brilliant mementoes of your visit to the legend of the Teide National Park at our official souvenir shop . And you can relax and enjoy a culinary experience with panoramic views of the National Park in Spain’s highest restaurant and snack bar , whose badge of identity is the distinctly Canary Island character of its food and drink.

Good excursion and tourist guide

Everything was fine!!!

Bus trip through Teide National Park. We were picked up in Candelaria. Guide spoke three languages (Spanish, English and German). Multiple sight-seeing stops but none long enough to do any walking or hiking.

Take a public bus instead, a lot cheaper

Brilliant. Well timed and lots to see. I wish that there were more trips from Santa Cruz, but as a whole would recommend the Volcano Teide experience

The tour guide and driver were good. It should be pointed out that all trails after reaching the cable car station on top are on rugged rocks. Nothing is well paved. Not easy if you are not used to hiking. The pick up point “ Bus Stop Parque Maritimo” indication was misleading as there was no such bus stop. The coordinates we received sent us to a different spot. Hope the company can find a better pick up spot for those staying near the central bus station.

I was very happy and fully satisfied with excursion to El Teide, interesting, very well organized, great guide Lucy, proffessional, friendly and very kind !!!! I can recommend this excursion very highly to everyone who visiting Tenerife,it is worth to take this trip, unforgetable.

A good trip well worth doing, very informative guide and Mount Teide was fascinating. Would highly recommend this trip.

Really enjoyed this trip, our guide was informative and friendly, and my family (2 adults, 2 children aged 3 and 6) had a great day visiting Mt Teide.

A good trip. The time at the upper station is limited to one hour, which was not enough for us, but I realise that this is governed by the National Park/cable car operator.

Great guide and driver, comfortable bus Beautiful location Shame we couldn’t stay at each stop longer, felt a little rushed and was slightly shorter than advertised, otherwise amazing

Excellent tour

Even though we are experienced walkers we were both hit by the effect of lower oxygen levels at 3500+ metres. Care is needed

A very good experience overall! The bus ride was efficient and relaxed and the stops were appropriate and well-timed. We would have appreciated a bit more time at the Roqas des Garcia, 20 minutes wasn’t quite enough to take it all in! Very much enjoyed the cable car experience, even with a 5 year old (though we should have packed a few more warm clothes for him). A memorable and well-executed operation - thank you!

Excellent, experience was amazing, great amount if people, guide was fantastic as was driver.lots of knowledge was shared.great drive up scenery amazing.

Nice to be picked up next to your hotel, and brought back again.

Not enough time actually at Teide. About 10 minutes at the top after you have queued for the cable car and no time to have lunch which we had hoped to be able to do while soaking in the view. Most of the seven hours was spent on the coach

Well organised trip with timely breaks. Full time allowed up Teide followed by visit to another nearby photo opportunity. Could have better integrated the app we’d been encouraged to download for trails. Time well spent!

Excellent tour. Convenient pick up, friendly & knowledgeable guide, breakfast stop on the way, cable car tickets organised for us, enough time at the top, then a further stop at the Visitor Centre which included a film and time for lunch and more sightseeing. Guide Adrian was exceptional.

Well organized, good trip.

Timings were correct for pick-up, drop-off and trip duration. Both the driver and our guide were very friendly and welcoming. An informative trip and a couple of very interesting stops along the way.

As provided on the previous screen.

Pick up location close to hotel, excellent information about pick up etc, guide phoned to inform of slight delay in collection. Guide was very informative and agreeable tour was interesting with sufficient rest stops. Exposition at cable car not our thing but good for kids. Didn’t check out visitor centre but trail was a nice walk dropped off in good time.

Amazing view, perfect location and organization !

Very interesting trip to the National Park with an informative guide.

The trip was advertised as half a day and we were out for 7 hours, 2 hours of which was picking up and dropping off. Going up Teide was an amazing experience but we wished we would have done it independently.

The bus was very punctual. The guide and driver were nice. The experience with the cable car was neat and I had zero problems with my visit.

Good trip and god guide who gave many useful informations.

Take warm clothing and beware the altitude

Great views, just shame about the pickup journey hours driving around all the pickups

Very good. A bit pricey but nice

Easy to book. Plenty of opportunities for trips to choose from. Smooth and easy pick up. Great guide in Maxim with information provided in different languages. Adequate stops build in for comfort. Smooth onto cable cars… up to top… walk of about half hour to viewing point and back in private with own party and plenty of photo opportunities.

Only 30 min at the top of cable car due to long queue ascending and descending. Disappointing not to be able to go to pico vejo! 5-6 people did not care about the time given and showed up with 40 min delay. So everybody could have had 1 h at the top. The guide did not adjust to the queue situation and did not tell them anything! Also it would have been good to know yhe schedule before booking

Very interesting day out

To help you plan your adventure, here are the 8 best tours of Teide :

  • OPTION 1 : Tour with cable car ride
  • OPTION 2 : Tour with cable car ride and access to the summit
  • OPTION 3 : Tour through the Cañadas del Teide
  • OPTION 4 : Hiking tour to climb Mount Teide along the Montaña Blanca route
  • OPTION 5 : Night hike through the Cañadas del Teide
  • OPTION 6 : Stargazing tour in Teide National Park
  • OPTION 7 : Tour to Mount Teide and Masca
  • OPTION 8 : Tour to Mount Teide, Icod, and Garachico

1. Mount Teide tour with cable car ride

One of the most popular excursions to Teide includes transportation to the base of the cable car and a ride to La Rambleta. While this tour doesn’t go to the volcano’s summit, it’s still quite impressive because La Rambleta is 11,660 feet above sea level.

Depending on where you are staying, you can book this excursion from the north of Tenerife or this one from the south. You’ll travel by bus from the meeting point to Teide National Park, about 7,730 feet above sea level. From there, you’ll board a cable car and ascend to La Rambleta, enjoying lovely views along the way.

Cable car Mount Teide, excursion teide

Once at La Rambleta, you’ll have an hour to explore the trails and viewpoints in the area. Keep in mind that this Mount Teide tour doesn’t go to the summit since a special permit is required. Also, an hour isn’t enough time to hike the trail to the volcano’s peak.

  • Highlights : Bus ride to Teide National Park, cable car ride, La Rambleta
  • Duration : 8 hours
  • Price from : $75
  • Departure : North and south Tenerife
  • Description : Enjoy round-trip transportation by bus to Teide National Park, where you’ll ride a cable car to La Rambleta. There, you’ll have one hour to enjoy the views and walking paths .

2. Mount Teide tour with cable car ride and access to summit

One of the best excursions to Teide , if you want to reach the summit, is this tour . Along with the special permit to access the summit, the excursion includes a guide and cable car ride; so this is this is the tour we recommend no matter you’re planning a week itinerary in Tenerife or you have just 5 days to explore Tenerife .

On this Teide tour , you’ll hike on Trail 10 or Telesforo Bravo, the only route that goes to the summit. The trail is less than half a mile, but it has an elevation gain of over 650 feet, so it’s only recommended for experienced hikers.

Mount Teide, Tenerife, teide excursions

The excursion also includes transportation from different parts of Tenerife to the cable car entrance, and a cable car ride is also included. The ride is less than 10 minutes and leads to La Rambleta, where you’ll begin the hike to the summit.

During your hike, you’ll witness the spectacular landscape of Mount Teide, such as the volcanic rock formations. As you get closer to the peak, you’ll smell sulfur in the air, another indication of the volcanic activity in this area. Without a doubt, this is one of the top excursions to Teide , especially if you love hiking and you want to see Spain’s ultimate apex.

Moreover, the tour company handles all the special permit requirements, so you won’t have to worry about it.

  • Highlights : Bus transportation, cable car ride, and hike to the summit of Mount Teide
  • Duration : 5 hours
  • Price from : $97
  • Departure : Areas in northern and southern Tenerife (see the different points here )
  • Description : Enjoy round-trip transportation by bus to the Mount Teide cable car. Your tour includes a cable car ride to La Rambleta, where you’ll begin your hike to the top of the volcano, following the Telesforo Bravo trail. Permit access to the summit is also included .

3. Tour through Las Cañadas, a cheap excursion to Teide

Within Teide National Park, at the foot of the volcano, you’ll find Las Cañadas, an expansive area, and site of several volcanic eruptions. It is believed that this region was created after the caldera that’s also here, although there is still much debate about that. Regardless, if you want to tour Mount Teide and see this part of the park, I recommend this tour from the north or this one from the south.

Las Cañadas del Teide, teide tours

3. Tour through Las Cañadas, a cheap excursion to Teide –  Efrén Yanes

On this excursion in Teide , you’ll be able to witness the desert landscape surrounding the volcano, including rivers of lava and volcanic rock formations like the Roques de García. Throughout the journey, you’ll get lovely panoramic views of Mount Teide.

Depending on the time of year, you may see the  tajinaste rojo , or the tower of jewels, a bright red plant that only grows in Teide under special conditions. Also, there isn’t any difference between the tours from the north and the south, as they both cover the same areas. Besides, the price is quite low, so this is a good, cheap Teide volcano tour to consider.

  • Highlights : Las Cañadas del Teide
  • Duration : 4- 5 hours
  • Price from : $31
  • Description : Enjoy round-trip transportation by bus to the Cañadas del Teide, where you’ll take a guided hike and explore the flora and views .

4. Hiking tour to Mount Teide’s peak (Montaña Blanca route)

We reached the summit of Mount Teide by taking Trail 7 or the Montaña Blanca route, one of the best hikes in Tenerife . If you love to hike, this is the best way to get to the volcano’s peak. Although we did it on our own, you can book a Teide excursion that does this route, like this tour .

This excursion takes all day and goes from the Cañadas road, where the ascent begins. Part of what makes this Teide tour the best is that you’ll discover unique places along the route. One of these is the Huevos del Teide, two huge black rocks behind the White Mountain. You’ll also pass through the Altavista refuge and the cable car station. The ascent is done on foot, while you’ll descend down the mountain by cable car, and the tickets are included.

Mount Teide, mount teide day trip

The terrain is quite steep since you’re walking on solidified lava, so this is a difficult hike that I don’t recommend for people who aren’t in good physical shape. That said, if you can do it, it’s an incredible Teide day trip that will reward you with amazing panoramic views and landscapes.

On this excursion, you’ll hike the Telesforo Bravo trail, the only one that leads to the summit, and the tour company handles permit access.

  • Highlights : Hike along Trail 7 (Montaña Blanca) and Telesforo Bravo
  • Duration : 1 day
  • Price from : $178
  • Departure : Hotel pick-up in Los Cristianos, Las Américas, or Costa Adeje
  • Description : Take a guided hike along Trail 7 (Montaña Blanca) to reach the peak of Mount Teide. The tour includes a guide, accident insurance, cable car ticket, and permit access to the summit .

5. Night hike through Las Cañadas, the best Mount Teide tour at night

Tenerife, specifically El Teide, undergoes a drastic change at night, so doing a Teide night tour can give you a completely new perspective of this otherworldly landscape. If you’re interested in this kind of experience, I highly recommend this tour .

Teide at night, mount teide night tour

5. Night hike through Las Cañadas, the best Mount Teide tour at night –  Efrén Yanes

The excursion begins at the Parador de Cañadas del Teide (one of the best paradores in Spain ), where you’ll meet your guide and embark on a 3-mile hike under the beautiful starry sky. Moreover, this evening Mount Teide tour will take you to some iconic places, like the Roques de García, all while basking in the glow of the moon and stars.

To make the most of your time, I recommend spending the night at the Parador Las Cañadas del Teide hotel, since you’ll be starting and end the tour there anyway. If it’s already booked, you can find other hotels to stay in Tenerife close to the meeting point.

  • Highlights : Las Cañadas del Teide at night
  • Duration : 3 hours
  • Price from : $22
  • Departure : Parador de Cañadas del Teide
  • Description : Take an evening hike through the Cañadas del Teide and see some of the most popular sights in the area while enjoying the night sky. The tour includes a guide, snacks, and flashlights .

6. Stargazing tour in Teide, one of the best nighttime excursions in Teide

Tenerife is a designated Starlight Tourist Destination since it has all the perfect conditions to enjoy the night sky. So, if you’re looking for an impressive night tour in Teide , I suggest booking this one .

You’ll experience a Night Sky Star Safari in Teide National Park, where you’ll observe the stars through a telescope. Meanwhile, an expert guide will tell you all about the visible planets, the moon, stars, and much more. Best of all, this Teide excursion includes a glass of cava while you watch the sunset, as well as a traditional Canarian meal.

Stargazing at Teide, teide night tour

6. Stargazing tour in Teide, one of the best nighttime excursions in Teide –  Efrén Yanes

Another great nighttime excursion to Teide that you can book is this one , which includes stargazing and a visit to Reverón Wineries, located 4,640 feet above sea level.

Regardless of the tour you book, I suggest reading our guide on how to photograph the Milky Way so you can make the most of it!

7. Tour to Mount Teide and Masca, the best day trips to Teide

If you’re looking for excursions to Teide from Puerto de la Cruz in northern Tenerife, one of the best is this tour , which includes a visit to Masca.

You’ll travel in a 4×4 across volcanic formations in the La Orotava valley and Teide National Park. Along the way, a guide will explain the events that caused the volcanic eruptions in this area, and the impact they had on the island’s geology. For example, the village of Garachico was practically buried when Chinyero erupted.

Mount Teide, Tenerife, teide tenerife tour

7. Tour to Mount Teide and Masca, the best day trips to Teide –  Efrén Yanes

Then, you’ll reach the beautiful town of Masca, located 2,460 feet above sea level. It has one of the best viewpoints in Tenerife, thanks to its popular ravine. Without a doubt, it’s one of the best full day trips to Teide .

If you’re in the southern part of Tenerife, don’t worry because this tour departs from Las Américas and is nearly identical to the other excursion. The only difference is that you’ll start in the south of the island, so you’ll go to Masca and Vilaflor, another charming village.

These are the best tours to Teide, Tenerife if you want to explore the nearby areas and learn more about volcanic activity there.

8. Teide, Icod, and Garachico, a complete Mount Teide tour

For those who want a complete tour of Mount Teide, I recommend this tour , as it’s one of the few trips that combine Teide , Masca , Icod , and Garachico .

This tour departs from northern Tenerife, but you can also book this option if you’re in the south. Depending on your starting point, the order of the stops may vary.

One of the places you’ll visit on this Teide tour is the Cañadas del Teide National Park, an area that was created after the volcano erupted. Today, it boasts rivers of lava and characteristic rock formations like the Roques de García. Moreover, from here, you can see Mount Teide in the distance and get a better idea of its full grandeur.

Ancient Dragon Tree, excursion teide

You’ll also stop at Santiago del Teide and Masca, the latter of which is known for its ravine and viewpoints that overlook the region from 2,460 feet above sea level. The excursion’s two other stops are the historical town of Garachico and the municipality of Icod de Los Vinos , where you can see ten Ancient Dragon Tree, considered by many to be a National Monument.

Again, these Mount Teide tours are the perfect choice if you want to take advantage of discovering other points of interest in Tenerife.

  • Highlights : Teide National Park, Masca, Garachico, and Icod de Los Vinos
  • Duration : 8- 9 hours
  • Price from : $43
  • Departure : Pick-up at your hotel in Puerto de la Cruz or from south Tenerife (El Médano, Callao-El Paraíso, Ten Bel, Los Gigantes, Golf del Sur, La Caleta, Las Américas, Los Cristianos, and Chayofa)
  • Description : Enjoy a complete tour through Teide National Park and see the volcanic geological formations. Then, travel to some of the most popular towns in Tenerife, like Masca, Garachico, and Icod de los Vinos.

Mount Teide tour prices

If you’re still not sure which excursion to Teide you want to do during your vacation in Tenerife , here is a comparison of the different prices for each tour:

In addition to the climbing tours on Teide , there are many excursions from Tenerife that will take you to different corners of the island. Of course, to learn more about this stunning island and to make the most of your trip, I recommend reading our guides on things to do in north Tenerife and places to visit in south Tenerife . Regardless of which part of Tenerife you visit, Mount Teide is a must! However, if you’re traveling without renting a car in Tenerife , you should know that there are many e xcursions from Puerto de la Cruz so I recommend staying here.

Finally, I hope that you feel more confident about booking your excursion to Teide . If you have any questions, leave me a comment below and I’ll help you as much as I can. Have a safe trip!

Make sure to bring warm clothes when you visit Mount Teide. In January, the average temperature is 4°C and in August, 18°C. Nights are even colder, so bring a jacket, even in summer.

The Legend of Mount Teide

The guanches (Tenerife natives) used to say that a powerful creature is living inside the volcano and that it has the power over sun and fire.

How to go to Teide Tenerife, view from Mount Teide of landscape covered by clouds

I admit that sometimes, I am not in the mood for adventure.

But the good thing about visiting Mount Teide is that you don’t need to be a proficient climber to enjoy the beauty of this natural attraction.

If you only have limited time at your disposal and can’t, or don’t want to do too much physical effort you can cut the short trip with a car.

I recommend driving by car through the Teide Natural Park to the viewpoint Roques de García .

You can also book a taxi to Mount Teide. I found renting a car in Tenerife particularly cheap and I recommend checking Discover Cars for the best deals.

It is the most visited viewpoint as you get a spectacular view of the volcano and the distinctive rock formation Roque Cinchado .

This view was even printed on the Spanish peseta currency. It’s thus a must to take a picture here.

There is parking space for a few cars, but which can be occupied by buses too.

If you have a bit more time at your disposal and don’t want to leave Teide Natural Park right away.

I recommend lunch or dinner with a view of the emblematic Parador Las Cañadas . Their cuisine serves refined traditional Canarian food.

You can even spend the night in Parador de Las Cañadas del Teide *** and have the Natural Park all for yourself in the early and late hours of the day.

It is considered one of the best Paradores in Spain .

Mount Teide Trips for Soft Adventurers

Best trips to Mount Teide, A cable car ascending Mount Teide On the island of Tenerife, with the old lava flows visible below.

If you want to get the feeling to have climbed up Mount Teide without going up to the peak, I recommend taking a ride with the spectacular Mount Teide cable car.

It’s one of the most popular attractions in Tenerife, thus I highly recommend booking your tickets in advance .

It is definitely one of the best ways how to go to Teide, Tenerife, and you can also do a Mount Teide tour with cable car.

I have several friends who couldn’t visit because they didn’t purchase their tickets in advance.

I also recommend going as early as possible (the cable car opens at 9 am).

Book here your fast-track cable car tickets to Teide volcano

The lower cable car station is located at 2.356 m above sea level and already provides jaw-dropping views on the surrounding peaks.

There are parking spots to leave your car (open from 8 am – 6 pm).

The lower station also comes with a souvenir shop and a cafeteria where you can plan your route.

Be ready for the temperature change at the upper station! The ride takes you in 8 minutes up to 3.555 m.

The upper station offers spectacular views and is home to the highest public phone in Spain.

A Mount Teide tour with the cable car is definitely a great option for soft adventurers.

From here, you can decide whether you want to continue your adventure and hike one of the 3 trails:

  • Route Nr.10 (40 min, strenuous) –  The route takes you to Spain’s highest peak, passing by La Fortaleza Vantage Point . The route is not easy due to the altitude and the strong sulfur smell. The view from the peak is glorious as you’ll be able to spot other Canarian Islands: La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, and with some luck even Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
  • Route Nr.11 (25 min, average) – The route takes you to La Fortaleza Vantage Point from which you’ll enjoy a spectacular view of the northern part of Tenerife and the lush Anaga mountains. The path is flat but due to the latitude, the hike can be very tiring. Don’t underestimate it!
  • Route Nr.12 (30 min, average) – The trail takes you to the Pico Viejo Vantage Point from which you’ll be overlooking southern Tenerife. It’s thus the perfect spot to enjoy a view on La caldera , the Pico Viejo crater, and Mount Guajara . From here, you’ll spot La Gomera and La Palma.

Please note that you’ll need a permit to access the Mount Teide peak and crater which is not included in your cable car ticket. You need to apply for a free permit here .

If you want to go hassle-free, I recommend booking your guided hike up to Mount Teide peak from the cable car station (including the special Mount Teide permit).

Book here your hiking tour to Teide

You can also opt to spend the night at the Refugio de Altavista del Teide (very basic, but does the thing), get up early, and enjoy the sunrise at the Mount Teide peak.

You’ll be rewarded with a unique experience during which the enormous shadow falls into the ocean.

They say that it’s the most beautiful sunrise and sunset in Spain.

How to Visit Mount Teide for Hikers and Adventurers

Unique Mount Teide trips and excursions, large rock formations with a view of Mount Teide

If you are a proficient hiker, an adventurous spirit, or simply enjoy traveling slow, I highly recommend climbing Mount Teide without using the cable car!

Even if it’s the most demanding way to explore Mount Teide, it will provide you with the impression of nature’s magnitude.

There are several routes to climb Mount Teide, but the most popular one is probably the one starting at Montaña Blanca .

The highly difficult route takes you from 1.367 m to 3.718 m and takes you to the Refugio de Altavista del Teide.

Here, you can spend the night, get up early and experience Spain’s best sunrise at Pico de Teide (the peak).

Please, always make sure to check the weather forecast and Mount Teide weather when preparing for your hike.

The trail will take you along places of geological interest and lava canals to get to the Mount Teide crater.

Wear suitable clothing and footwear and take food and cold drinks. I recommend taking warm layers to ward off the early morning cold.

You should consider that this is a risky outdoor activity, and I recommend getting travel insurance upfront with Safety Wing in case something goes wrong.

It is considered one of the best cheap travel insurance to Spain .

Calculate 6 h to hike up from Montaña Blanca to the Refugio de Altavista del Teide. You may want to descend by cable car.

Don’t forget to book your bunk bed in the Refugio de Altavista del Teide in advance.

Book here your stay at the Refugio de Altavista del Teide

Please, note that you’ll need a permit for Mount Teide to access the peak.

If you love to hike, don’t forget to hike your way through the Masca Valley hiking trail , which is one of the top things to do in North Tenerife .

Mount Teide Tenerife Trips for Couples

how to get to Teide, couple on top of mountain taking a photo of the view

Did you know that visiting Mount Teide can be the ultimate romantic thing to do in Tenerife?

Yes, you heard right! Due to the unique stargazing conditions, you and your beloved one will want to spend hours watching the sky of Tenerife.

Indeed, Tenerife boasts very low light pollution (especially near Mount Teide!) and thus the star-sprinkled sky creates the perfect setting for a romantic excursion by night.

I particularly love visiting Tenerife in October for the stargazing as it’s even less polluted with the tourists gone and not too cold yet.

There are several ways to create this special experience.

Some include dinner and champagne, while others offer a romantic cable car ride at sunset. Mount Teide by night is definitely a very romantic activity.

Here is the selection of my favorite romantic Teide excursions:

  • Mount Teide Sunset & Stars with Optional Transfer & Dinner
  • Mount Teide Stargazing Experience – Telescope Observations
  • Tenerife: Mount Teide Sunset Cable Car Ride
  • Teide Night Experience with Dinner and Stargazing

Mount Teide by Night Excursions

How to get to the Mount Teide hike, sunset view of Mount Teide in distance surrounded by clouds

If you want to know what is Tenerife famous for , Mount Teide is one of the answers.

Visit Teide National Park during the daytime and visiting Teide Natural Park at night are 2 completely different worlds.

One of my favorite ways to spend my time after work was driving with my work colleagues to Teide Natural Park and laying down on a blanket to observe the stars. Unforgettable memories!

Depending on your interest in astronomy, you can visit the National Observatory and learn more about the stellar constellations in Tenerife’s sky.

The island boasts some of the best stargazing conditions in the world due to its low light pollution and geographic location.

Did you know that the Teide Observatory is the world’s largest solar observatory?

These excursions include a visit to Teide Observatory:

  • Mount Teide Observatory Guided Tour
  • Private Tenerife, Teide Tour and Observatory

If you just want to enjoy the experience, I recommend booking a Mount Teide by-night excursion so that you can visit without any hassle or stress.

  • Mount Teide Romantic Sunset Stargazing
  • Tenerife: Stargazing at Mt. Teide

Make sure to take (several) warm layers to your Mount Teide trips. The surroundings of Mount Teide get very cold at nightfall, even during the summer months!

Visiting Mount Teide by car

How to visit Mount Teide, road leading towards Mount Teide with yellow car on it

When they arrive on Tenerife, many visitors wonder how to get to Mount Teide. Fortunately, you can drive to Mount Teide from either airport on the island.

The main road to Mount Teide is the TF-21, which runs all the way from La Orotava in the north down to Granadillo de Abona in the south.

This will also take you to the Mount Teide cable car for a quicker ascent to the summit.

Trips to Mount Teide by car are short. No point of interest on Tenerife is more than 40 miles from Mount Teide!

Rent a car on Tenerife for a day trip to Mount Teide

Mount Teide trips from las Americas

There are so many activities to add to your El Teide hike.

From a delicious dinner to stargazing under a clear night sky, visiting national parks, or just exploring other parts of the island, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Sometimes the best way to visit Mount Teide is to dive right into all Tenerife has to offer as well! Choose from such trips from las Americas as:

  • Full-day Teide jeep safari
  • Romantic sunset and stargazing tour with dinner
  • Mount Teide tour with cable car
  • Teide national park stargazing experience

Mount Teide trips from Puerto de la Cruz

day trips to Mount Teide, Playa Martianez, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

One of the best things about this Tenerife mountain is that it is centrally located on the island.

That means that it is as easily accessible from the north coast as it is from the south coast.

Anyone staying in or near Puerto de la Cruz still has access to some high-quality tours to Mount Teide, such as:

  • Teide and Northern Tenerife: Grand Tour
  • Teide and Masca VIP Tour

Short FAQ About the Best Mount Teide Trips

Can you climb mount teide.

Yes, you can. Proficient climbers have a choice of several routes, with the most popular being the Montaña Bianca trail. However, it is also the most demanding way to climb Teide as it is entirely on foot.

For those who wish to have an easier time hiking Mount Teide, I recommend taking the cable car to the top.

Either way, be prepared for the increase in elevation and the cooler temperatures at the summit – you will be 3,715m above sea level!

What is the best time to visit Mount Teide?

This will depend on your preference, but in my opinion, the best time for a Mount Teide hike is when the weather is favorable and there are fewer people. This is normally in the May to September period.

Climbing Mount Teide in January will mean lower temperatures and more rainfall, so this would normally be attempted by experienced climbers.

April and October have the sunniest days of the year, as well as higher temperatures.

Can you drive to Mount Teide?

Once you get to the island, you can drive to Mount Teide. Tenerife has a road network that will lead you to Mount Teide from almost anywhere on the island.

Driving from the South Airport takes just over an hour, and driving from the North Airport takes slightly longer.

Those with Mount Teide cable car tickets can park at the cable car station. Parking is available for over 200 vehicles at the lower station and is open from 8am to 6pm.

Excursion through the Teide National Park from Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje.

Visit the Teide National Park and enjoy the best views of Mount Teide, the tallest mountain in Spain at 3817 metres high.

Teide tour

Mount Teide is actually a volcano, the third largest in the world, and on our excursion you will see the best views of Teide and the surrounding area.

Get to know the National Park in comfortable buses while accompanied by an official guide who will tell you about the highlights along the route, as well as the history and culture of the island in general.

During the journey, while climbing from the southern part of the island (Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje) to the Cañadas del Teide, we will see large expanses of Canary Island pine forests and observe the Chinero volcano, whose last eruption in 1909 is the most recent on the island.

teide excursions

When you arrive at the Teide National Park, you will appreciate why it has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a Natural Monument for its geological, historical and scenic value.

We will make various stops so that you can contemplate Mount Teide from different angles. From one vantage point you will also be able to see the volcano next to Teide, Pico Viejo (“Old Peak”). Although its height is lower, at 3135 metres, the diameter of its crater is 800 metres, 10 times greater than that of Teide.

Teido Pico Viejo volcán

The basic route will take you up to approximately 2300 metres, but if you want to ascend to 3555 metres, almost to the summit of the volcano, we recommend that you choose the excursion with the cable car option when you book.

Teleférico Teide

You won’t have to queue for long and you will be able to enjoy the wonderful views of Tenerife from this height. We recommend you always bring a warm jacket, as it can get quite cold at this altitude.

Teide top cable car

There will be times when the cable car does not operate because of the wind. We will not know if this is the case until we arrive at the ticket office, as there may be no wind at all in the southern regions of the island while it is windy at the foot of the cable car, or the other way round. In any case, if it is not possible to go up, we will make another stop along another part of the route and we will refund the amount you have paid in advance for the ascent.

Another stop on the route is at Roques de García, where you will have a spectacular view of Teide from these huge rocks at the base of the volcano. In fact, the view from one of these giant rocks, Roque Cinchado, was the image that appeared on the old 1,000 peseta bill.

Excursiones Tenerife Tour

Our last break will be observing the impressive Ucanca Valley, a large plain close to the volcano.

Valle de Ucanca Tenerife

Exploring the Teide National Park and its great attractions is sure to be one of the best memories of your stay in Tenerife. We hope that you can share it with us by rating your experience, both at the time of booking and later on at the end of the tour.

Important – conditions for the cable car ascent

It is not permitted for children under 3 years of age, pregnant women, people with cardiovascular problems and people with physical or motor disabilities to ride the cable car.

If you are at Teide’s upper station and the cable car stops working for technical or unexpected reasons, the descent will be made on foot along steep mountain trails.

In the event that is not possible to ascend in the cable car, a refund of 27 euros per adult and 13.5 euros per child will be given.

Three day Teide tours from Tenerife South

Two sunset teide tours from tenerife south, all the tours at a glance.

To make things easier, we’ve divided our Teide excursions from Tenerife South into two groups: tours that take place during the day, and at sunset and night. You can visit the Observatory, ride the cable car, ascend to the volcano’s summit, go stargazing, watch jaw-dropping sunsets... Get ready, because here we go!

Let’s start with the tours that you can enjoy in the full light of day. We have three different day Teide tours from southern Tenerife to choose between and each one takes you to a different place on the volcano.

Cable car and choice of trail

The most comprehensive and exclusive of our Teide tours from Tenerife South includes the cable car and transport for small groups. You’ll be collected from your hotel and transported to the cable car base station, then you’ll enjoy the beautiful 8-minute ride up the slopes of Mount Teide. From there on, you choose!

The top station, also known as La Rambleta, is at an altitude of 3,555 m and is the start of a series of trails that let you explore different fascinating areas of the volcano.

The three best-known trails are La Fortaleza, the trail that takes you to the Pico Viejo viewpoint and the trail that takes you to the highest point in Spain, the crater of Mount Teide.

The third trail isn’t available on this excursion (it is on the following tour) but the first two are and they are definitely worth it!

Both include sulphurous fumaroles, volcanic rocks, paths where the lava ravaged the Earth’s surface years ago, unique landscapes in Europe and, at the end, a viewpoint with different views depending on which trail you choose. What you would like to appear in your photo of the Atlantic Ocean, the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma or the Anaga mountains and the whole north side of Tenerife?

Here’s a taster of this Teide tour from Tenerife South with choice of trails:

Here’s a summary of everything that is included in this Teide tour from Tenerife South:

  • Collection from your hotel in transport for small groups so you avoid overcrowding (common in other modes of transport) and unnecessary time-wasting while collecting other travellers: total comfort.
  • Cable car tickets (ascent and descent).
  • Official guide.
  • Time to hike the freely accessible route of your choice, setting off from La Rambleta.

Ascent to the Peak of Teide by cable car

On this Teide tour from Tenerife South you’ll definitely reach the highest point in Spain (3,718 m) and this is how:

The stunning trail, known as Telesforo Bravo, that leaves from La Rambleta and reaches the crater of Mount Teide is only open to travellers who have a special permit issued by the National Parks Booking Office .

Obtaining the permit is complicated and you can even find that there is a months-long waiting list. If you have already booked the dates of your holiday in southern Tenerife, Volcano Teide gives you the option of a Teide tour with an ascent to the peak and collection from your hotel or nearby point.

That’s right: we work as official National Park guides and therefore have access to a number of these permits; we’ll take charge of the booking process for you on this excursion so you can reach the summit. That means you’ll spare yourself both the process of requesting the permit and the hassle of making it fit to the timing of your cable car tickets, if you’re buying them yourself. And that’s not all: on this Teide tour from Tenerife South you’ll be joined by an official guide for the whole experience who will be there to answer all your questions.

Here’s a glimpse of the tour that takes you to the summit:

This Teide tour from Tenerife South to the peak includes the following:

  • Official permit to access the Telesforo Bravo trail that leads to the summit of Mount Teide.
  • Cable car tickets (ascent and descent) included in price.
  • Official National Park guide to answer all your questions.
  • Transport from your accommodation or nearby point. You’ll travel in a small group so both the outward and return journeys will avoid the overcrowding typical to other modes of transport and any unnecessary time-wasting while collecting other travellers meaning you’ll travel in greater comfort.

Hiking Teide volcano with permit included Tenerife

Description

The Mount Teide Summit Hike with Teide permit included is an unforgettable trek located in Tenerife, Spain. At 3,718 meters high (12,198 ft), Mount Teide currently stands as the highest point of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as forming the tallest mountain in Spain and the third-highest volcano worldwide. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 and now requires a special permit - the Teide Permit - to access this protected zone.

Officially known as Parque Nacional del Teide, it’s one of the most-visited national parks in the world - and with good reason! From the hundreds of volcanically-formed cones seen during the hike to the fantastic panorama of the island available at the Mount Teide summit. It is surely an adventure worth embarking on.

Within the national park, both the Mount Teide summit and the Pico Viejo volcano can be found. The entire area is filled with geologically unique formations a diverse ecosystem, and several lower-level hiking trails to be enjoyed.

Mount Teide Tour Description

The Mount Teide Summit Hike with Teide permit & Cable Car package is a relatively easy hiking tour that includes arrangement of a time-specific ride in the Mount Teide Cable Car (also known as the Teide Teleférico) as well as the Teide Permit required to access the protected summit. Cable car tickets are not included and payable apart from the tour fee.

Group tours meet at the lower Teide cable car station (at a height of 2300m / 7545 ft) then take the Mt. Teide cable car to the upper station where the only path to the summit is located.

Trail NR-10 is the only way up to the peak of the Teide volcano.

Through booking the Mount Teide Summit Hike with Teide permit & Cable Car, access to the summit is provided via a group Teide permit. The group will ascend via this path after passing through a checkpoint.

The one way hike takes between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your physical condition. At the summit, a wonderful view of the entire island can be seen and are an ideal location for taking pictures (and taking a rest!). On clear days, five islands can be seen from the summit - Gran Canaria, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, and, of course, Tenerife. If you’re taking the Teide summit tour in the evening, you can’t miss the fantastic sunset covering the entire island.

Afterward, the group will descend via the same path and take the Mt Teide cable car to descend back to the volcano’s base. Hiking enthusiasts may then choose to continue to the Rocks of García (Roques de García) walking down through the caldera via the Old Peak or the Montaña Blanca hiking trails.

The Mount Teide summit hike is of moderate difficulty, mainly due to the high altitude and a near-constant slope.

At the same time, if you wish to have a challenging full Mt Teide hike, from the base to the Teide peak, it is also possible, but only in the private tour option. The Private Teide Peak Tour with Permit included also includes hotel pick-up and private transportation from and then back to your hotel.

Important to know:

  • Don't forget your passport of national ID-card attending this hiking tour - it's also required to make your Teide permit and checked on your way to the Mount Teide summit.
  • Take cash for the remaining balance - tour guide cannot charge a card.
  • Take money for the Cable Car return tickets. Cable car ticket is not included in the tour price. At the same time, you shouldn't book cable car, by yourself. Your hiking guide will have reserved a time slot for the group and will have tickets for the exact time slot for everyone in the group.
  • Organize your own transportation to the meeting point.

Prepare yourself to the Peak hike:

  • Take at least 1.5 L of water to avoid dehydration - the air at the Mount Teide summit and in the National Park is extremely dry.
  • Wear proper clothes depend on the season of the year.
  • Make sure you have with you the same travel document as the one which number you've sent to to the provider to make your Teide permit.
  • Wear full shoes with a good grip.
  • Always take sunglasses and suntan cream with high UV-filter.

What to see on the Mount Teide Summit Hike

Undoubtedly, the landscape is the most notable part of the hike. The distant ocean contrasting the volcanic landscape is a sight to see. Upon taking this tour, Tenerife and the other islands can be seen the top of the summit.

Within the Teide National Park is an enormous caldera - Las Cañadas del Teide - from which both Mount Teide and the Pico Viejo rise up to form these two volcanic mountains. This part of the Teide crater can also be explored via the indicated hiking trails.

Besides the breathtaking volcano Teide, Tenerife is also home to an extraordinary observatory ( Observatorio del Teide ) nearby which can be visited. You may also go to the visitor center to learn more about how Mount Teide was formed.

Mount Teide Flora & Fauna

If you choose to come in the springtime, there are several botanical particularities native to the park. The red bugloss is a beautiful plant with bright red flowers and the Teide violet is a rare plant that can only grow in areas above 2,500 meters. This is the namesake plant of the area, although it is quite rare to find.

The area is also full of plenty of species endemic to the area , such as lizards, geckos, and plenty of birds. The only mammal native to the park is a Canary big-eared bat. However, several species were introduced to the area, namely feral cats, rabbits, and African hedgehogs.

There is also a wide range of insects native to the region, particularly spiders, beetles, and butterflies. Although this shouldn’t alarm you, as there are no dangerous species in the area.

What not to do on Mount Teide

In order to protect Mount Teide, Tenerife, and the surrounding ecosystem, there are a few instructions that we kindly ask you to follow.

Most importantly, we strongly recommend you to stay on the signaled path while hiking up to the summit or through any of the several other trails. As it is a protected zone, the hiking trails are indicated both on the trail and on the map to protect both you and the park. Please do not climb on any rock formations that are not part of the walking trail.

Likewise, we urge you to not take any stones with you - however tempting it may be! We understand that the volcanic stones are a wonder for all, but constant removal of these precious stones eventually damages the ecosystem and could result in irreparable damage to this natural wonder.

Finally, we ask that you take care of yourself and of your belongings during the hike. Please be sure to pay close attention to where you step and to use reasonable caution when hiking. We must work together to maintain this beautiful landscape for everyone. If you bring any snacks or bottles of water, please keep them with you and dispose of them in appropriately labeled containers. Spain has very convenient recycling systems - yellow bins are for plastic!

Mount Teide Permit Requirements

The Mount Teide National Park is a protected area known for its biodiversity and geological singularity. In order to reduce any potential damage to this breathtaking area due to excess levels of tourism, special permits are required to access the summit. The Mount Teide access permit is essential to protecting and maintaining the beauty of the ecological wonder. The official name of this permit in Spanish is known as the “Permiso de acceso al pico del Teide”.

When booking the Mount Teide Summit Hike with permit to the Teide Peak, a special group Teide permit is generated, allowing you access to Europe’s most visited national park. During the day of the Teide tour, it is imperative you bring a form of ID with you.

Those from the EU, Norway, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Iceland may bring their national ID cards as an acceptable form of identification. People from any other country must bring their passport or they may be denied the Teide peak permit.

How to access Mount Teide excursions

To begin the hike up to the Mount Teide summit, the Mount Teide Peak Tour group will meet at the lower Teide cable car station. All members of the hiking group will meet at this start point before heading off.

When booking the package, please the time you choose will be the start time of the Teide hiking tour. In order to avoid any potential trouble, we highly recommended arriving at the Lower Cable Car Station 30 minutes prior to the time on your ticket. If arriving by car, this will give you ample time to park at the Teide Cable Car Station, as well as locate your guide.

All participants must find their own transportation to the area from their hotels. If you are coming from a hotel in Tenerife South - La Caleta, Costa Adeje, Las Americas, and Los Cristianos, you can easily locate a taxi, or a rental car to the meeting point.

Once all participants have gathered at the meeting spot, we will all begin the excursion via the cable car, which will take us to the upper station at an altitude of 3550 meters (11,646 ft). From there, we will then pass through the checkpoints with our forms of ID to verify the permit to ascend the peak of Teide. From there begins the approximately 40-minute hike.

When to book Teide Peak Hiking Tour

It's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to book the Teide Peak Hiking Tour as far in advance as you can. Ideally, 2 months in advance to guarantee availability. If you book online between 2 months and 3 weeks in advance, you still have a practically guaranteed chance of hiking Teide, but it also depending on the season and availability.

We urge you to not attempt booking the tour at the last minute or the day of. It is highly likely that the tour is already full and the maximum daily permit amount of 200 people has been reached and, therefore, we would need to refund your booking deposit.

As mentioned, Teide National Park in the Canary Islands is one of the most popular European attractions, so prior planning is essential to a smooth hiking experience!

Mount Teide Seasonal Changes and Preparation Recommendations

April - October

From April to October, the weather in the Canary Islands can be quite hot, especially in the summer months. If you’re planning on climbing Teide, make sure to wear proper clothing - hiking boots / comfortable hiking footwear, a hat, and sunglasses.

Solar radiation is incredibly strong in Spain, even more so in the Canary Islands. Do not forget to wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water with you. On your climb, peak temperatures may easily reach 40 C / 104 F. It’s also recommended to bring a light snack such as trail mix or fruit.

The trail will consist of loose and stony ground, so closed-toed shoes are recommended. Depending on the season, a light jacket or raincoat may be necessary in case of rain. Regardless of the time of access, summit temperatures may change rapidly.

October - April

In the winter months, there may be extreme weather conditions on the Tenerife volcano tour.

From October to April there are often strong winds in the upper parts of the atmosphere and Teide cable car may close without notice for your safety. We have no influence on the weather and in the event of cable car closure and the cancellation of the Teide Peak Hiking Tour, we will refund you the full cost of the tickets.

In the event that the Teide Peak Hiking Tour begins and we ascend up through the cable car, but on the descent, the cable car closes due to weather changes, then we will go down via an alternative hike in the Teide National Park and no refund will be possible.

Please note that if booking the Teide Peak Hiking Tour in the period from November to April, you must understand the risk of cancellation and bad weather conditions. Due to the high altitude, there are often snowstorms, icy path formations, and powerful gusts of wind.

Of course, in the Canary Islands, you can go from the hotel to the beach, swim in the ocean, go tanning under a palm tree, and just enjoy the sun overall, but unfortunately, in the heart of the island, it’s possible there could be a snowstorm or subzero temperatures. Welcome to Tenerife :)

STRICT CANCELLATION POLICY

WARNING! Strict Cancellation Policy applies to this tour! No refunds in the case if you cancel the booking after it was confirmed, no matter what the reason is. I was wondering if the remaining balance to pay is including the cable car tickets?

Hello, as it described in the tour information, the cable car is NOT included. It’s paid separately to the tour guide together with the remaining balance.

The scheduled meeting time stated on voucher was 8:45AM. To our surprise, all the other guides started boarding the cable car and our was nowhere to be found. When I called the agency, it was obvious, that I had caused a mini heartattack because they had clearly forgotten about us. So I found out that the meeting time was rescheduled to 9:45AM and no one bothered to inform us in advance. We had to wait another hour for our guide - that we could have done at our hotel during breakfast... After he arrived, everything went well and we were happy to get up top. But apart from "sorry", which didn't even sound sincere, we didn't receive any other refund.  Hide review

Our guide Andres met us outside cafe, by the cable car station, collected cash for the cable car and remaining balance for the hike. He then gave us return cable car tickets. He was friendly and provided interesting information about volcano and Tenerife. There was only 4 of us in the group. After cable car trip and before entering the path to the top, we were asked to show our passports. Hike to the top is easy and took us about 30 min. You can really feel the air is getting thinner at that altitude and it slightly affects your breathing. Views from the top are amazing. If the sky is clear, you can have 360 degree view of the whole island and see other islands too. Although there is no open crater, you can smell sulfur and see the steam come out of the ground. During the hike and at the top we had a little break to take pictures and then started descent. The hike ends when you come back down and reach upper cable car station, then you're free to explore the area. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and service and also great to get a discount when signing up with TripsPoint.  Hide review

He explained everything perfectly in a very entertaining way with touches of humor and in a way that everyone could understand. Did you know that Tenerife is home to one of the most important solar telescopes in the world? On our Teide Stargazing Tour, you'll discover this incredible instrument and attend a workshop in the Teide National Park.

Explore Tenerife

Between 2:15 and 4:30 pm, we'll pick you up from your chosen meeting point and leave South Tenerife behind to head to the Teide National Park . Spain's highest peak awaits!

The minibus will take us to the Teide Observatory , an astronomical complex consisting of several laboratories and different solar and night telescopes . We'll take a guided tour of its facilities to learn all about the important discoveries that have been made here.

As we explore the Teide Observatory, we'll explain why Tenerife is one of the best places in the world for astronomical observation . Here's a hint! The altitude of the island and the absence of light and air pollution have a lot to do with it.

From the observatory, we'll admire a breathtaking sunset. We'll watch as the sun dips behind the sea of clouds around the Teide and causes the sky to glow with the gentle colours of the sunset.

We'll then hop back into our vehicle and head to the base station of the Teide cable car . When we get there, we'll rest for 30 minutes and have a picnic meal that'll include a sausage and cheese sandwich, a sweet treat and a bottle of water or a soft drink.

Once it's dark, we'll begin a stargazing workshop that'll last 1 hour 15 minutes. We'll try to find the night sky's main constellations and spot the  International Space Station . You'll also get to use  long-range telescopes to get a close look at different celestial bodies.

Our adventure will come to an end between 10:15 pm and 12:30 am when we drop you off back at the starting point.

Tour with or without food

If you don't want to have the picnic meal during the tour, you can book the option without food. In this case, you'll need to bring something with you to eat.

This tour includes pickup from the main hotels and different central points in Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Playa Las Americas and other areas in southern Tenerife . When making your booking, you'll be able to see the complete list of the places included. We'll contact you to let you know the exact pickup time, as this will depend on your location and the sunset time on the day.

  • Maps57540904054 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles A dull, overlong tour We took the tour on a cloudy day where someone fell ill along the way, so there were extenuating circumstances. But the guide made what could have been fascinating a very boring experience - way too much talk, with lots of random, uninteresting facts. We told the guide we had to get to the cable cars at a certain time - nevertheless he ran way over for no apparent reason and made us late. One to avoid. Read more Written May 24, 2023
  • BackinBracknell 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Really interesting, professional and well-organised We were picked up from our hotel in Los Cristianos exactly on time at 4pm. Had a number of other pick ups before setting off for Teide which is a long drive but interesting to see how the landscape changes as you drive up the mountain. There was a short stop at the Roques de Garcia viewpoint which was a bonus, and good toilets here as well, then on to the Observatory where we arrived about 6.45pm. We had the opportunity to look at the sun through a special telescope set up outside, followed by a tour of the Observatory with our guide who was exceptionally knowledgeable. He explained all about the research going on and the different countries involved. It's amazing how many projects there are and the guide took us inside one of the domes to see the mechanics close up. The Observatory is situated 2400m up so the sunset was spectacular. There was some cloud around which produced amazing colours. Once it started getting dark we were taken to the base station of the cable car where we had about half an hour to eat and use the facilities. We had pre-purchased the "picnic" which consisted of a ham & cheese baguette, a muffin and a small bottle of water. It was actually very good. If you don't go for the picnic option you really need to bring your own food as nothing was open by that time although there are a couple of vending machines. The final part of the tour was the night sky viewing using 3 telescopes set up in the car park. By then it was about 10pm and we had about an hour there. Luckily the cloud had cleared away and we had an unobstructed view. As well as looking through the telescopes the guide was explaining about the constellations and the stars and planets that were visible. You do have to stand around for the whole time and some of the group were tiring by this point. It was also getting cold. Viewing through the telescopes was a bit underwhelming as they are not hugely powerful and we didn't see any galaxies or planets in detail...but wow there were so many stars! Finally we had the long drive back and we were not back at our hotel until just before 1am, so it was nearly 9 hours out! The tour was very professionally run and quite scientific with a lot of factual information and very detailed explanations . Well worth the price for what you get. Would recommend if you are interested in astronomy but only suitable for older children if they have a real interest. Read more Written May 19, 2023

  • DaniAndreia 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great visit (Climbing the Teide Crater), but a bit rushed We weren't able to get the permit to go up to the Teide crater on our own, so we purchased the tour "Climbing the Teide Crater" from Volcano Teide Experience. We were picked up close to our hotel and drove on a bus to the cable car station. There was a guide along the way providing some information, but we didn't find this part of the tour particularly insightful (it did however save us from having to drive all the way up ourselves). Once at the cable car station we joined another guide that took us to the crater. She gave us a lot of information about the volcanic activity in the island and how that impacted the landscape in front of us as well as advising us on how to safely deal with walking in altitude. Despite enjoying having a guide for the walk to the crater, we would rather have done this visit at our own pace and spent a bit more time in the Teide National park. Everything felt a bit rushed. • Dave H 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Location is amazing - a must do if you're in Tenerife We really enjoyed this day out. The landscape and scenery is amazing. You are above the cloud level, looking down into a dormant volcano. The cable car is slick, clean, professional and well organised. All excellent. We only downgraded it by one star for the trip itself. Overall that too was very good. The tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. One thing we really liked was that we were first to be picked up so had to sit through a couple of hours collecting other people. They took us a different route back which meant we were one of the first to be dropped off which was a nice consideration. However, we ended up stopping off somewhere when we were nearly home to wait for another bus to drop off one passenger to ours. That was a wasted over half hour which felt like it could have and should have been better spent giving us longer at one of the scenic stops by the visitor centre that felt really rushed. We're not sure why that wasn't better coordinated and planned. Otherwise, all good! Read more Written February 2, 2023
  • ChrisDAberdeen 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Cable Car + Guided tour Pico Viejo viewpoint We drove to the park and it was amazing to be able to stop and take our time with short walks and photo opportunities. We did the Cable Car + Guided tour Pico Viejo viewpoint - it was brilliant. Thank you to Pedro our guide who was knowledgeable and witty. It’s not a difficult walk if you are fit but with the thin air and a slight hip problem I did need to take my time on the way back with regular breaks to get me heart rate back down. It was a brilliant trip and worth every euro and the aches and pains today:, Read more Written January 31, 2023
  • Chrysovalantou L 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Memorable hiking-bad guide To hike this mountain is a memorable experience! We started early in the morning having Davinia as our guide. She was very rude especially to me because I was very slow to the hiking in her opinion. I believe if you are giuding a team of seven people you have to respect there personalities and their rhythm. I would avoid her, if I knew that from the beginning. At the end we ended up arriving on time at the cable car. Check the option before you go and consider maybe to hike without a guide. • GroundedKiwi 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles False advertising, appalling service - avoid at all costs On the recommendation of our hotel, Ritz Carlton Abama, we booked the Mount Tiede Night Tour. As you can see by the screen shot below, this tour is advertised as 3 ½ hours long - a bit much for our nine year old, but we made sure he had a nap. When we met the bus we found out that the real tour length was 7-8 hours and ended at 1-2am! Clearly totally unsuitable for a child, so we chose not to board. Volcano Tiede's response is that that is is our problem and have refused to offer a refund. They take no responsibility for their false advertising. Appalling. They have now changed their website to show the correct time - so they demonstrate guilt but still keep our money! Speaking to ur hotel further they agreed that this tour is not suitable and would have recommended a different one for us - from our experience and lots of similar reviews on Tripadvisor - suggest that you do the same. Avoid. Read more Written September 2, 2022
  • 324AlexC 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A fantastic Experience. Myself, my wife and my daughter went on the star gazing experience on Mount Teide. We were picked up from our hotel in Adeje at 6.45pm. After a few more pick ups we were off up the mountain. We stopped off to watch the sun set which was really peaceful and great to see. We were above the clouds so we had a great view. After about 20mins we were on our way to the cable car station where the Star Gazing would take place. After exiting the coach the first thing you realise is that at 2000m + above sea level, its a bit cold. Now they do give you plenty of warning before the day that it will be cold, so trousers and jumper at least would be a good idea. On a side note there are toilets and at this point you are encouraged to use them if needed. After adjusting to the cold you are taken to a cafeteria. If you have prepaid they will give you a picnic box, if not there are vending machines which are on the expensive side ( everything is at least 2 Euro). After 45mins wait you are taken outside and you meet up with a guide who speaks your language. At this point it is heavily stressed that there is to be no lights at all, none, nothing. They will switch off all lights so you have the best view. Now comes the magic part. Once they switch off the lights, the sky lights up with stars and its breath taking. You can see the clouds weaving there way through the milky way and its truly something to behold. At this point you will have the opportunity to view 4 items in the night sky through 4 separate telescopes. You are advised not to take too long looking through the telescopes as everyone needs to have a turn. They are not pushy at all, but they just make you aware. The next part of the experience is a guided tour around the night sky. The guide will point out constellations and give an in depth depth talk around what the Read more Written August 29, 2022
  • Anna R 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Absolutely amazing experience! 100% recommend Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. We booked the sunset & stars experience with a transfer from the north. We were picked up directly outside our hotel in Puerto de la Cruz and driven all the way up to the cable car - the views from the bus during this trip were truly stunning as you pass through the clouds and the guide was very friendly and helpful. We were then able to ascend the volcano in the cable car and watch the sun set over la gomera in the distance. We came back down the mountain as the sun disappeared and experienced the amazing night sky over Teide. I've never seen so many stars! The guides throughout the whole experience were wonderful and the star gazing was pitched at exactly the right level for beginners like us! The views just kept getting better throughout the experience. We brought our own food and the 'picnic' didn't really seem worth the extra cost. Honestly, a once in a lifetime experience, definitely well worth the money! Read more Written July 4, 2022
  • mrspumpkinred 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Stargazing at the highest mountain of Spain We were picked up by bus and they took us to the National Park El Teide we're the highest mountain in Spain is placed there. The first thing that we did was watch the sunset over the sea, and we had the chance to see three more islands: La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro. The sun was going down over La Palma and it was really special. After that, we were driven to the Cable Car where we learned how to find the northern star among other constellations. Finally, we watched with telescopes the sky and we saw 4 different Galaxies and Star Clusters. The only thing I would recommend to the company is to have a secondary option if something come up with the transportation. The door were broken of the bus, and not only we went down with the door open, but we lost 1h more and with a loud noise on the bus. Best of the experience: all what we have learned and the beautiful landscapes. Worst of the experience: The problem with the transportation. Read more Written May 15, 2022
