Tool Have ‘Many Ideas’ For New Album, Reveal When They’ll Hit the Studio
Fans endured a 13-year gap between Tool albums by the time Fear Inoculum was released in 2019. With "many ideas cooking" and a firm timeline on when they'll return to the studio, perhaps the band won't make everyone wait quite as long for another new record.
In March of 2022, drummer Danny Carey loosely talked about what's next for Tool musically and how another decade-long wait (or longer) seems unlikely.
"I'm sure it won't take us this long for the next one. We even had some stuff left over from the last one that we'll develop. We have head starts on three or four new songs," he told Cleveland Scene last year.
Providing an update as a guest on The Vinyl Guide podcast, Tool bassist Justin Chancellor lays out what the band has in store for the next few months.
"We've got many ideas cooking. We haven't recorded anything yet. But we're quite busy until — I guess until after the spring of next year touring. So once that's done, we're gonna get back in the studio and knuckle down and put some of it together," Chancellor reveals (transcription via Blabbermouth ).
"We've already had a few pretty decent sessions of writing," he adds, "So we've got the ingredients in place. We've just gotta really bang it out and spend that time when we're not touring."

That studio time will likely takes place in early spring as Tool just announced a 2024 U.S. tour that stretches from Jan. 10 through Feb. 18, with support coming from Elder . See those dates here .
Pressed about whether or not Tool have leftover material from the Fear Inoculum sessions, Chancellor says, "Yeah, tons from the last album. We have tons of ideas, but not recorded to the standard we'd put on an album. Just kind of, I'd say, lots of demoed stuff. And then just tons of ideas just kind of stored away."

Tool Announce 2022 Tour
By Matthew Strauss
Tool have announced 2022 tour dates. The shows are set to begin in the United States in early January, with the North American run stretching into March. Tool will then play European and UK shows in April and May. Find the dates, including stops with Blonde Redhead and the Acid Helps, below.
Like many bands, Tool had plan to go on tour last year, announcing concerts in February. By June, however, the band formally canceled the tour.
“It is with great pleasure I get to announce our return to the road,” Tool drummer Danny Carey said in a statement. “These past 18 months have been trying to say the least but from great trials come great lessons and great rewards. We are genuinely looking forward to sharing them with you.”
Tool’s latest album is 2019’s Fear Inoculum .

Tool is getting back on the road. The band announced on Monday (Sept. 27) a massive tour spanning four months to kick off in January 2022.
“It is with great pleasure I get to announce our return to the road,” drummer Danny Carey said in a statement. “These past 18 months have been trying, to say the least, but from great trials come great lessons and great rewards. We are looking forward to sharing them with you.”
Added frontman Maynard James Keenan, “Let’s finish what we started, shall we?”
Tool's Maynard James Keenan Shares His 'Ugly' Second Experience With COVID-19
The U.S. leg of the tour will begin Jan. 10 at the Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore., where the band — like many others around the world — had to halt its 2020 tour in support of 2019’s long-awaited release Fear Inoculum due to the global coronavirus pandemic. After first delaying the tour in February 2020, Tool elected to scrap it completely a few months later in June.
After three months touring the States, Tool will take a few weeks off before picking up with the European leg, which is slated to begin April 23 in Copenhagen, and ending May 24 in Budapest.
Blonde Redhead will support the Jan. 10-Feb. 10 dates, while The Acid Helps will open the Feb. 19-March 20 shows.
Tool Army members can access presale tickets beginning Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. local time for European dates, and Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. local for U.S. shows. There will also be exclusive packages available during the pre-sale windows. Tickets for all dates go on sale to the general public Friday (Oct. 1) at 10 a.m. local time.

Donations help Poway High construction class make speedy recovery from tools theft
Freshman Quinn Lawrence helped spread the word about tool shortage

Students in Poway High School’s construction program are getting back to building storage sheds, a tiny house and other woodworking projects now that the tools that were stolen last month have been replaced through donations.
Tools the student used that were stolen the evening of April 1 have not been recovered and suspects have not been identified, said Jeremy Martin, career education specialist for the Poway Unified Career Technical Education Department.
But the community rallied to help rebuild the construction program, Martin said.
“We’ve replaced every item that was stolen and then some through donations,” he said. “This unfortunate situation has created a silver lining of awareness for our program. We can’t run the program without the tools and the facilities.”
Campus video surveillance showed that two unidentified adult males broke into the school sometime between 10:45 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. April 1, said Poway High Principal Richard Nash. Among the items stolen were hand and shop tools such as table saws, planers, radial arm saws, compressors and other tools that about 125 ninth- through 12th-grade students use in the construction technology classes, Nash said.
Each of the stolen items was worth several hundred dollars, so that loss added up to thousands of dollars of equipment.
“It has definitely raised our awareness for the need for security and safety procedures and ensuring our locations are secure,” Martin said.
Shortly after the break-in, Poway High freshman Quinn Lawrence took the initiative to raise awareness about the need for donations of cash and tools.
Lawrence, 14, said her mom had connections with Fox 5 San Diego news reporter Jaime Chambers, so she asked him if he could spread awareness about the need for donations from businesses and families.
“We talked about the program, how we started and what this means to our school and community,” Lawrence said.
Lawrence said her classmates in the construction technology and engineering class were upset when they found out the tools were stolen, but their perspective changed when they were able to start building again with donations about one week after the theft.
“It made everybody feel a lot more positive that everything turned around,” she said. “We were going to be shut down, but then we got everything back and we were able to get back to work.”
One of the large donors to Poway High’s construction program was the nonprofit Rebuilding Together San Diego. The organization provides home repairs for disabled people, military veterans and low-income families in San Diego County using mostly volunteer labor.
The nonprofit donated four drills worth a combined $600, a sawzall saw worth about $200, a miter saw valued at about $200, a pancake compressor valued at $180, a jigsaw worth about $100 and a toolbox full of gloves, hammers, screwdrivers and safety masks, said Executive Director Cheryl Keenan.
“We just dropped off the tools and hoped they were able to use them,” Keenan said. “Since they were training students on how to handle tools and work in construction it seemed like a good fit to let students know what programs are out there where their skill set is much needed.”
Martin said the community response has been “outstanding.” Through Lawrence’s efforts and community support the school has been able to replace the stolen items and has received several thousand dollars in monetary donations to support the program in the future, he said.
Cash donations will be used to purchase additional supplies and to benefit students in the form of scholarships and paying travel expenses for student experiences like field trips and competitions, Martin said.
Construction students are also excited about auctioning their first completed tiny house, begun in the summer of 2021, at a public auction this summer. Proceeds from the auction will be used to recoup the material costs of the tiny house and replenish funds to pay for additional projects, Martin said.
“I’ve been involved in most of the donations and the delivery of the donations,” he said. “Every time we show up with a new tool or multiple items, the students’ faces light up. It’s amazing to see the community come to our aid so quickly. It was truly wonderful.”

Enquirer: Salacious testimony of 1929 murder at UC rare books library
Blegen library's collection features 1929 chronicle of 'trial of century'.
The Cincinnati Enquirer highlighted a rare book in the collection of the University of Cincinnati's Archives and Rare Books Library that chronicled the "trial of the century" in 1929.
"The Murder of Theora Hix" published in 1929 detailed the sensational testimony provided during the murder trial of Dr. James Snook, a veterinarian and Olympic gold medalist on the U.S. pistol team accused of killing Hix, a student with whom he allegedly had a long-term relationship in Columbus, Ohio.
The book, subtitled "The Uncensored Testimony of Dr. Snook," is one of many rare tomes in UC's Archives and Rare Books Library at Blegen Library. The library curates UC's collection of more than 50,000 rare books, university archives, local government records, urban studies and German-Americana collections.
The trial captivated the nation's attention. The New York Times and other national newspapers published daily trial coverage with breathless headlines like: "SNOOK SWEARS GIRL MOVED TO KILL HIM; Struck Her With Hammer When She Reached for Pistol."
According to the Enquirer, the trial testimony was deemed far too salacious at the time for even most newspapers to publish verbatim, which prompted an enterprising court stenographer to compile trial testimony in a book for a national audience.
Snook was convicted at trial and was executed by electric chair in 1930.
