Make sure your item is just as you received it: unused, with all the tags, and in its pristine packaging. Don't forget to keep that receipt or proof of purchase handy.

They charge for umbrellas - Is this 5 stars?

Stayed in Moscow for 3 nights and unfortunately it was very rainy and windy. The hotel staff make you sign a 1000roubles (approx 30dollars) deposit form when you get an umbrella at the reception. Ok, I agree with this policy, as it prevents people from simply not returning the umbrellas. But what happens if you get a rainy and windy day and return a damaged umbrella? They charge you anyway! To me, this is not 5 stars service... At least, if the umbrella was of good quality, which of course it isn't, they could argue. More

We stayed here this week, and were generally disappointed. The ground floor of the hotel is ornate and fabulous, but our floor was dingy and smelly. The carpets looked like they had been cleaned badly, and were a trip hazard- one of the maids went flying over one rucked up area whilst I was there. The room was pleasant enough, but had seen better days. The so called air conditioning did not work, and meant we had to have the window open at all times- which was somewhat risky since it opened onto a fire escape. Breakfast, like all other reviews state, is plentiful but nothing is at the right temperature- the cooked food is cold, the cold drinks warm. I think this is a general Russian lapse - I am now at a much better hotel in St Petersburg where the same holds true. I think many of these hotels aiming for 5 stars need to send their staff on trips to their European counterparts to see what tourists expect, and how it should be done. In general, I would not stay here again.

Awfull and very poor service! I would never suggest my friends or colleagues visiting this place. Not only the stuff is very rude and not welcoming, but also quite inappropriate arrogant and not helpful at all. I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and the hotels is ok. But would never suggest anyone to eat at the restaurant! The waiter was arrogant and very rude! Worst experience ever!

We did a lot of research before this trip. So glad we settled on the Savoy. Lovely staff and service, beautiful room, excellent location and introduction to Moscow. We would stay here next time. Left each morning to the Bolshoi, Kremlin, Basils, GUM, and easy walk to the area of Pushkinskaya, Cafe Pushkin (hotel offered to make a reservation for us, so nice). Close to the Metro too (clearly the world's most beautiful transport system.) Breakfast not that exciting (although the actual dining room is beautiful) wouldn't have eaten in a hotel restaurant at all except that there isn't much open in Russia before midday.

Recently we had five days in Moscow. We wanted to stay centrally in an hotel that was able to cater for a family of 5. Boy, did we get lucky. The hotel was everything we wanted in a great location and we even had a balcony! there was only one in the hotel so that was a bonus. Nice breakfast, comfortable beds, excellent staff. We couldn't fault it for what we wanted and would highly recommend it. Great to have a pool as well

We stayed for over a week in a pretty room (no view however; windows faced the back and side of the hotel) with two beds and a nice size bathroom. The hotel's location was great -- near many major sites (Red Square, Kremlin, Bolshoi Theater, etc.) and shops. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and spoke good English. Perhaps the hotel manager read previous TA comments about less-than-friendly staff, because they were quite pleasant while we were there. The buffet breakfast (included in our room price) was good, with a variety of hot and cold foods. Occasionally they ran out of certain foods but they usually (not always) got replaced. We would definitely recommend the Savoy to anyone who wants a nice hotel in a good location. Three caveats: 1. We had only one hot (by Moscow standards) day during our stay, and our air conditioning was quite weak. Not sure if it would be pleasant over several days of a heat wave. 2. The wired (Ethernet) connection worked great. But since our room was at the edge of the wireless network, it only worked if you stood at the door. So, we used wired most of the time and wireless when were leaving the room or at breakfast. 3. We never used the hotel's airport transfer service or city car services as they were overpriced. We used Go-To.ru for airport transfers (really basic but okay service) and dealt with the city's taxis and privately owned cars for getting around to sites. I guess this isn't the place to discuss the Moscow taxi system, but in a phrase, it's a PITA. In a nutshell: you tell (or show) them where you're going. They quote an exorbitant price. You negotiate from there. Be prepared to stop 2 or 3 cars before you get a decent price -- at least if you're a foreigner.
