How To Choose The Best Anti Theft Crossbody Bag

When traveling, you are more likely to be in environments you’re not used to—ones that can potentially be dangerous for you. Having great anti theft crossbody bags makes it easier for you to be safe in these situations. There are three parameters, in particular, you should look out for.

The material of your bag is very important. For indoor use, you can go for cotton, nylon, and canvas materials. Fabrics like polyester and leather are best for outdoor use since they also protect you from the rain. The more resistance your exterior has, the safer the bag will be.

Although RFID is an amazing feature, it needs to be up-to-date. Just because an RFID system is there doesn’t mean the bag is theft-proof. Look for hidden RFID pockets, up-to-date systems, and quality materials in your bag.

Having a lot of pockets is a great thing in crossbody bags. Multiple compartments, slip-in pockets, and zippered pockets allow you to keep all your wallet contents without the need for a physical wallet. This also means more organization and easy access for you!

RFID systems are built to protect your cards and phone from being hacked by digital thieves. In simple terms, they block the signals emitting from the microchips, making it difficult for hackers to have control of your items.

An excellent anti theft bag has high-quality RFID protection, many compartments, and top-notch exterior materials.

Good safety features include RFID protection, hidden pockets, easy-access pockets, and more.

Best Anti-Theft Purse For Travel: My Top 9 Travel Bag Picks

The best anti-theft purse is the one that foils pickpockets every time.

And if I’d had one of these clever items when I visited Beijing, I wouldn’t have looked like such an idiot… or worse, a criminal.

Man pickpocketing woman and stealing her wallet

That’s exactly how I felt as I tried to convince embassy officials to  please  let me in to get a new passport – because mine had been stolen, along with my money.

But I didn’t have a pickpocket-proof purse, and I had committed the cardinal sin of travel: I had put my passport into an unsecured daypack.

Believe me, this is the kind of mistake you only make once, and I’d love to make sure you don’t have to make it at all!

So I now have not one, but  several  of the best anti-theft travel bags on the market. I never travel without one. And yes, my passport is now snugly secure.

Today I want to focus on day bags designed to  ward off pickpockets . I’ve been testing several of these during my travels and to paraphrase the well-known ad, I would ‘never leave home without one’.

There are two big names in anti-theft travel bags for women: PacSafe and Travelon. The last time I searched for “PacSafe” and “Travelon” on Amazon I found hundreds of results for these brands. While the two giants dominate the market, I’ve also looked at others and have added those further down this page.

These  travel accessories  range from tiny clutches to roomy purses and every color under the sun, so try to narrow down your choices before you shop by asking yourself:

  • Are color and style important to you?
  • Do you need something ultralight because you have back issues or is heavy fine?
  • What do you plan to carry – just a wallet and phone or do you need space for your tablet, paperback book, glasses, keys, tissues, pens and a notebook for quick notes, a small camera… you get the picture!
  • Will you be heading into the rainy season? The material could be an issue.
  • Do you need oodles of pockets or do you like to have it all mixed up at the bottom of your purse?

Make sure you answer some of these questions before you shop!

Meantime, though, here’s a comparison chart for my top 9 bags.

Best anti-theft crossbody bag: comparison table

What should i look for in the best anti-theft bags.

Each bag will be different, but each will have specific anti-theft properties that make them attractive.

The best crossbody bags should have as many of these characteristics as possible:

  • Slash-resistant or slash-proof fabric (typically wire mesh)
  • Strong fabric (canvas, nylon)
  • Anti-slash straps (usually wire-reinforced)
  • Locking zippers or closures OR hidden zippers
  • RFID blocking pockets /compartments
  • Multiple interior pockets with separate closures (like zippers)
  • Non-flashy design or colors (to blend in rather than attract attention)
  • Compact enough to be worn under a cardigan, jacket even a large pashmina, making it hard for thieves to spot.

Daypacks  are also good for use as travel purses, but under certain conditions:

  • That they are designed specifically to thwart thieves
  • That you wear them on your chest instead of your back (I do dislike that but that’s my personal bias)
  • That you avoid putting anything of value in exterior or unlocked pockets.

Some find that the best anti-theft backpack purse is the one that is versatile enough to act as both a backpack and a handbag in different situations.

Standard Pacsafe purse features

Every Pacsafe bag (or most) shares a few features that set the brand apart from others:

  • Stainless steel wire mesh in fabric and wire-reinforced straps
  • Locking clips and zippers, turn and lock security hooks.
  • RFID blocking pockets and compartments

My three most highly rated Pacsafe bags are described below.

Pacsafe Women's Citysafe Cx Anti Theft Convertible Backpack-Fits 10" Tablet, Black

  • Cool detachable shoulder strap (adjusttable, of course) allows you to lock it to something solid while you go to the counter to pay your bill.
  • There’s no way anyone is going to cut through the steel mesh surrounding this pack.
  • Interlocking zippers make it difficult for thieves to reach into your backpack.
  • Like all Pacsafe products, lots of pockets, inside and outside.
  • Perfect as a daypack but equally useful as a weekender.
  • Water-resistant, of course, you won’t need to fear the r

Pacsafe Citysafe Cx Anti Theft Convertible Crossbody, Blush Tan

  • Perfect if you want to go out in the evening without returning to your room to change bags. This one converts from a day bag to an evening purse.
  • Metal-reinforced strap can be locked to anything - a radiator or table.
  • Great if you’re out for the day - will fit your phone, camera, cash and cards, papers, keys and the like.
  • Plenty of pockets, including an RFID blocking inside one.
  • Plenty of pockets, including an RFID blocking inside on

Pacsafe Cruise 8L Anti Theft All Day Crossbody, Black

  • One of Pacsafe’s all-time classics. You’ll put in on and forget it’s even there, it’s THAT comfortable.
  • Lightweight steel mesh is embedded in the fabric, which makes this purse virtually thief-proof.
  • No one will unhook it without your knowing - you can lock the strap in place.
  • Will fit your iPad Mini in its padded sleeve.

Standard Travelon purse features

Most Travelon bags are made to foil pickpockets and tend to share certain characteristics:

  • Slash-resistant mesh body panels and shoulder straps
  • RFID blocking pockets
  • Locking zippers and compartments

These two are among the most highly rated Travelon handbags by women who travel with them.

Travelon Anti-Theft Active Small Crossbody, Teal

  • It’s comfortable enough to wear all day.
  • This is the right purse if all you want to carry are your essentials - a large iPhone, identification, even a camera.
  • Slip your identification into the main RFID compartment for a worry-free day.
  • You can slip your phone into the outside drop pocket.
  • A small LED light is included to help you find what you’re looking for ins

Travelon Anti-Theft Metro Crossbody, Gray Heather, One Size

  • This is definitely larger than the bag above, if you need to carry more with you.
  • It includes inside space for a water bottle or umbrella.
  • Plenty of space inside for everything else, including the little iconic LED light so you can find everything.
  • The external zippered compartments are convenient if, like me, you’re always reaching for something in your purse.
  • This purse has a more designed look than your average travel purse, if you’re looking for something a bit more stylish.
  • Of course it has all the usual safety features, from locking zippers to RFID pock

Pacsafe vs Travelon: who wins?

Let’s talk Travelon vs PacSafe. Both PacSafe and Travelon offer a wide range of bag styles from compact backpacks, to wallets, to purses. Both incorporate great anti-theft features like slash-proof fabric/straps, RFID-blocking pockets and ways to lock zippers and closures. Both have highly-rated bags that people swear by.

So what are the biggest differences between PacSafe and Travelon? Price, color options, and overall style.

Pros and cons of Pacsafe

In general, PacSafe bags are more expensive than bags of similar quality (often by $20 or more, depending on the sales and bag in question), and they come with fewer color options. There are exceptions, of course, but PacSafe tends to put safety and practicality before fashion in their bag designs.

In this case, safe really does equal boring, which can be great if your main priority is to transport your things securely and not be noticed. They are also sturdy and buying one means you may have to stick with it for a long time because it won’t wear out.

✔ Durable and practical ✔ Will not draw unnecessary attention ✔ Highly-rated and trusted by travelers

✖ More expensive than other bags of equal quality ✖ Fewer color choices/More “boring” designs

Pros and cons of Travelon

Travelon isn’t a designer purse but the brand does have a range of handbags with quaint stitching, stylish fasteners, and bolder color choices.

If you’re budget-conscious, Travelon bags cost less overall. That said, the flashier colors and accessories might attract more attention, which could backfire if the point of buying an anti-theft bag was to deter thieves from snatching your things.

✔ Durable and practical ✔ Budget-conscious option ✔ Highly-rated and trusted by travelers ✔ More color choices/Fancier styles and designs

✖ Could attract unnecessary attention ✖ Sadly, the ‘plainer’ designs have the highest user ratings

It really is up to you. My own personal choice is Pacsafe, which I find the most reliable and neutral, a feature I like for traveling. They’re also well made (mine seem indestructible) and well thought through. If you’re in need of a small and a larger travel anti-theft purse, you could decide to buy one of each (I don’t need much of a nudge to buy an extra bag for travel!)

The next best anti-theft bags

If you aren’t a fan of PacSafe or Travelon, then these are the next best anti-theft bags for travel made by other reputable brands. Whether you’re looking for a stylish anti-theft purse, or a slash-proof purse, these will suit or travel bag needs.

Whichever bag you choose, make sure it is comfortable on your body because no matter how secure it is, if you don’t enjoy wearing it, you won’t.

Top 10 anti-theft crossbody bags, backpacks and accessories that stop pickpockets

Andrea M. Rotondo

Here at TPG, we aren't fearmongers. We steadfastly believe that travel brings the world just a little bit closer together.

That being said, we do get a lot of questions about how to thwart pickpockets in popular vacation destinations around the world. No matter what big city you may visit — here in the U.S. or beyond — someone may want to part you from your wallet, cellphone, passport or other valuables. Don't make it easy!

With one of the busiest summer travel seasons upon us, be aware of your surroundings and select a few travel accessories that will give you an extra layer of protection — and peace of mind — as you travel the globe.

Here are several TPG-approved anti-theft crossbody bags, backpacks and accessories to slow down and stop thieves from taking your personal items.

Crossbody bags

Security experts say that crossbody handbags are a good bet since you can easily keep an eye on your belongings. With these bags, your items are safely secured to the front of you or your side via bag straps that go all the way around your body. The design is both practical and comfortable, stopping passersby from yanking your bag off your shoulder or out of your hand as you're out and about for hours on end.

To find the right crossbody bag for protecting your items, look for a bag that has a wire threaded through the straps (so they can't easily be cut) and a steel mesh liner between layers of fabric (so the bag is slash-proof). Pockets that block radio-frequency identification, which scammers can use to access your credit cards, passport and other forms of ID, are also a must. Locking zippers are essential, too, as they make it harder for someone to quickly retrieve items stored inside.

While several brands make anti-theft bags, popular manufacturers include Travelon and Pacsafe. Both of these companies prioritize quality, appearance and functionality when producing their bags.

This particular Travelon bag is a solid option for frequent travelers, as it's compact enough to fit the essentials without adding bulk. I've had it for about a year now and really like it for specific uses: transiting through an airport when I'm also wearing a backpack, visiting a museum where larger bags are not permitted, heading to dinner and going on a half-day tour that doesn't require lugging bigger items.

While this bag, which measures 8.5 inches by 7 inches by 2 inches, can fit the items I always have on me — two pairs of glasses, my iPhone, a Vera Bradley ID/card wallet, two passports, keys, a pen and a pill case — it won't accommodate much more. Still, it has all the important anti-theft features to look for, including slash-proof steel mesh sandwiched between the fabric layers, a locking main compartment zipper and a cut-proof, wire-reinforced strap that has a locking carabiner so you can thread your bag through a post, chair or table leg to prevent someone from snatching it while passing by.

On the outside, you'll find a front flap with a magnetic snap closure. I usually stash any sightseeing tickets or papers I need in there so they're easy to access. Behind the front flap sits a slip-in pocket that comfortably fits an iPhone. There's also a zippered back pocket that's ideal for storing a few dollars so you don't need to unlock and access your wallet inside when buying a drink or something small.

Inside the bag, you'll notice a main compartment with three RFID-blocking credit card slots and a passport pocket. Additionally, there are an internal zippered pocket and an attached key ring loop with an LED. The latter comes in handy for securing items like my pill case.

If appearance is important to you, odds are you'll appreciate that this bag is available in four colors. Choose from neutral hues like black, smoke (dark gray) and sable (tan), or go for a deep pop of color with the ocean (navy blue) option.

best travel bags rfid

At 8 inches by 10.5 inches by 2 inches, this bag is a little roomier than its sister bag, the Travelon Anti-Theft Signature Quilted Slim Pouch . Like the Signature Quilted Slim Pouch, the Classic Small East/West Crossbody doesn't have any side pockets to store water bottles or umbrellas. However, its wider design makes it possible to store select miniature umbrellas inside.

This bag has all the same anti-theft features previously mentioned. There are locking zippered pockets on the front and back, plus a main compartment (also with a locking zipper) that has RFID-blocking credit card slots and a passport pocket. The interior also has a pocket for a phone and a tethered key ring with an LED.

Those who love bolder colors will like that this Travelon option comes in a few nontraditional hues, including spruce (deep green), purple and midnight (dark blue). Neutrals like black and nutmeg (brown) are available as well. If you prefer a textured fabric, opt for the quilted version in the wine rose, geo sunflower or painted floral pattern.

During Amazon's Prime Day sale, you can get this bag for abut $35 versus the usual $49 retail price.

If you're looking for a large bag with two zippered, mesh side pockets that can comfortably fit water bottles, umbrellas or sunglasses, the Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Messenger could be the right pick. It has all the same anti-theft features noted in the above bags but in a more spacious design.

Measuring 12.5 inches by 9 inches by 3.5 inches, this larger option from Travelon has a magnetic flap closure in the front that hides a locking zippered pocket. There's also a back pocket with a locking zipper closure that reveals four RFID-blocking credit card slots, a larger slot, a pen loop and a removable key clip with an LED when opened. Four wall pockets and an additional pen loop are tucked within the main compartment.

Color options range from solids like black, midnight blue and nutmeg to patterns like black with white stripes, black with white flowers and AV stripe (multicolor).

Pacsafe says it's the original anti-theft bag brand, and all its products — including the Metrosafe LS200 Anti-Theft Crossbody Bag — come to the table with all the features you seek. Security details include a cut-proof strap with a TurnNLock security hook so you can attach the bag to a chair or table for additional protection, a slash-resistant lightweight steel mesh layer, RFID-blocking pockets and locking zippers.

While the high price tag is a drawback, most reviewers love this bag, especially its locking zippers. Pacsafe's locking zippers are widely considered the safest in the business, as they don't unfasten as easily as those from Travelon (which act more like clips). If you're nimble with good dexterity, this shouldn't be a problem, though the extra effort required to open the zippers may make them difficult for those with arthritis or other hand-related health issues.

Featuring Econyl regenerated nylon, a product made from recycled materials like fishing nets and plastics found in the ocean, this bag is a great environmentally friendly option for those who need to store various items on the go.

Measuring 11.4 inches by 9.3 inches by 2.8 inches, the bag comes with a handle at the top for easy grabbing, as well as a wide shoulder strap, a zippered back pocket and two side pockets with snaps for smaller water bottles, umbrellas or sunglasses. Inside, you'll find an RFID-blocking zippered pocket and a padded sleeve for storing an 11-inch tablet.

Color options are limited, but both are ideal for coordinating with various outfits. You can choose between black and ocean blue.

Anti-theft backpacks have many of the same attributes that the best anti-theft crossbody bags have: cut-proof straps, slash-resistant fabric, RFID-blocking pockets and secure zippers. The main difference between the two is that the backpack design keeps your items safely stored on your back instead of in front of you or on your side.

There are many brands that offer travel backpacks , but Nomatic, Baggallini and Travelon stand out when it comes to anti-theft backpacks. These traveler-approved manufacturers take great strides to ensure the backpacks they offer are not only harder to steal but also stylish, well made and practical.

If you're more concerned with keeping your things safe during airport, train or bus transit, consider the water-resistant Nomatic Travel Pack. Available in 14- and 20-liter sizes that weigh 3.5 pounds and 4.2 pounds, respectively, this bag has backpack-style straps, handles similar to those on carry-on bags and luggage trolley sleeves.

Unlike most backpacks, the Nomatic Travel Pack opens like a traditional carry-on for easy packing. It also has a backpack-style zippered pocket on the front with plenty of interior pockets, including a lockable RFID-blocking security pocket, multiple mesh zipper pockets and a notebook pocket. The side pockets are large enough to fit bottles up to 3.5 inches in diameter.

Noteworthy details include the zipper expansion feature, which lets you add up to 10 liters of extra space so you can fit souvenirs and other items you pick up during your travels, and the hidden back pocket, which is capable of fitting a 16-inch laptop. There are cord pass-through holes in each compartment, too, so you can charge your devices or easily access your wired earbuds.

Whether you choose the smaller 14-liter bag (which is 17.5 inches by 11 inches by 5.5 inches, making it small enough to pass as a personal item on airplanes) or the larger 20-liter bag (which measures 18.5 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches), know that there is only one color available: black.

best travel bags rfid

This backpack from Baggallini acts more like a purse than a traditional backpack you use for storing everything you own, as it only measures 13 inches by 10 inches by 3.5 inches. But if you don't mind the smaller capacity that may not fit your laptop, odds are you'll like this fashionable alternative to standard anti-theft backpacks.

Safety features include slash-resistant panels, cable-reinforced straps, sleek locking zippers on the front pockets and an RFID-blocking pocket for credit cards. The back of the bag features another zippered pocket that opens to reveal four more credit card slots and two interior zippered pockets. There are also two side pockets designed for water bottles, umbrellas and other items.

Made with a lightweight, water-resistant material, the Securtex Anti-Theft Vacation Backpack is one of the lightest options available, weighing only 1.1 pounds.

As for colors, you'll have several options that go beyond the standard shade of black commonly found on travel bags. In addition to black, you can purchase the bag in charcoal, pacific (deep blue), ruby red or portobello (beige/brown). Two dark prints — black cheetah and midnight blossom — are available as well.

Few backpacks come with a wide zippered pocket at the top like the one you'll have with this Travelon bag . From a bird's-eye perspective, it lets you easily see what's in the bag while it's standing upright.

The zippered front pocket is spacious, revealing a pocket for your phone, a tethered key ring clip with an LED, and RFID-blocking pockets for three credit cards and a passport or two. When unzipped, the front pouch gussets extend so you can pack thicker items like a pocket-size guidebook in there as well.

The main part of the bag has a section for an iPad or tablet, plus a second larger compartment and a small open pocket. One side has a pocket for a water bottle or umbrella, while the other has a zipper compartment that reveals a mesh pocket.

Like Travelon's crossbody bags, this backpack has adjustable straps that are cut-proof. Additionally, every compartment is lockable and all four sides feature slash-resistant mesh lining, adding extra layers of security while you're traveling with your bag.

Available colors are similar to what you'll find for other Travelon bags, too. You'll have three solid choices — black, midnight and nutmeg — in addition to prints like black with white flowers, black with white stripes and geo tile.

Accessories

For some, a crossbody bag or backpack will suffice for travels near and far. However, traveling with smaller anti-theft accessories like money belts and neck wallets may be the way to go when you have a lot of items in tow. These accessories let you safely store credit cards, cash, passports and more beneath your clothes so pickpockets can't grab them on the fly.

You'll find various brands selling anti-theft accessories, but some of the most popular manufacturers include Alpha Keeper, Venture 4th and Zero Grid. Travelers favor these brands due to their safety features, high quality and comfortable, breathable designs.

best travel bags rfid

This Alpha Keeper money belt works great for various vacations, especially ones that include visits to places that require checking larger bags before entering, such as museums. It's a hassle-free option for meals, too, as you can dine out without having to constantly keep an eye on a purse or wallet.

Despite the product description saying the money belt fits waists from 25 to 45 inches, it actually stretches to 55 inches, making it a terrific option for all kinds of travelers, including those who are plus size. If your shirt isn't long enough to fully cover the money belt, you can wear it outside your clothes or tucked into your pants.

The wallet, which is 10.7 inches by 5.3 inches, is made of ripstop nylon and a triple layer of fabric that blocks RFID. It has two zippered compartments on the front, the smaller of which is ideal for storing a few credit cards, cash or sightseeing tickets; behind the larger pocket, you can fit three passports, a smartphone, additional credit cards, cash and more. There is also a breathable mesh back pocket, though keep in mind that this pocket does not block RFID.

Designed for both men and women, Alpha Keeper's money belt is available in four neutral colors: black, brown, beige and gray.

best travel bags rfid

If you don't like the idea of wearing a money belt under your clothes, a neck wallet is another option. Just load it with your valuables before placing it around your neck. To keep it from dangling and flopping as you move from point A to point B, tuck it inside your clothes.

Venture 4th's version of a neck wallet has several features that make it ideal for safely storing your travel documents, credit cards and cash. The pouch, which measures 8 inches by 5.5 inches, is made of lightweight ripstop nylon material, and the front has a clear window where you can place your ID, your travel insurance card or another small document. Two vertical zippered pockets on the front are good places to stash your earbuds, tickets or other small items.

At the top is a velcro flap that hides two larger compartments: one that's just the right size for your phone and another that can fit passports, money and other documents. The exterior back panel is made from breathable mesh fabric.

One downside to this neck wallet is that the strap is not cut-proof. However, it is made from a soft material with a toggle to adjust its length, giving you the flexibility to tweak where it sits so it's fully hidden under your clothes.

Available colors are all neutrals, though you'll find more options than other brands offer. Pick from black, pure black, beige, brown, gray, green, navy blue and silver.

best travel bags rfid

Not all money belts are designed for frequent use. If you're more concerned with hiding important items like spare cash or an emergency credit card, then this option from Zero Grid may work well for you.

Measuring 38 inches by 1.5 inches, this travel security belt has a zippered compartment that's hidden inside the belt. To access its contents, you need to take it off to expose the pocket.

Because of the narrow design, you can't use this twist on a traditional money belt to store wider items like passports. However, it could work well for a photocopy of your passport; you'll just need to fold the photocopy first so it fits. The same is true for any cash you wish to hide within it.

This belt is approved by the Transportation Security Administration, meaning you can wear it while transiting through airports. Some reviewers were particularly impressed with the fact that it didn't set off the alarm when they were going through airport scanners.

Note that this belt only comes in one color: black. Perhaps the lack of different hues is a good thing, as the standard black color prevents the belt from sticking out while it's being worn.

anti theft travel bags and travel purses

In today’s world of cyber technology and highly trained criminals , it’s easy to have your valuables compromised. You need more than a money belt to keep safe, and these anti theft travel bags will help you do that while looking good!

In this article, we explain what to look for in an anti-theft travel bag, options for choosing the right anti-theft travel purse, and reviews of the bags that we have used ourselves.

Table of Contents

What is RFID Skimming?

anti theft travel bags deb at airport

RFID Skimming It is a form of theft using wireless transmitters to gain information to your credit and debit card identification chips. They can decode personal information like your name, address, phone number, and private social insurance and social security numbers. Once somebody has that information, they can do anything from gaining access to your accounts to stealing your identity.

RFID protects your credit cards and personal information from being swiped by cybercriminals. If people want to, they can get your bank and credit information and wipe out your accounts in an instant. That’s why it’s important to think about anti-theft travel bags, purses and wallets when planning your trip abroad.

Check out our Ultimate Travel Packing List to Help you Prepare for your next trip.

The Best Anti-Theft Travel Purses

anti theft cross body purses

When looking for a good purse for travel, an over the shoulder slashproof bag with RFID protection is a must. Having your hands free for travel lets you enjoy the little things. And with a shoulder strap crossing your body, you never have to worry about someone grabbing your bag.

Anti Theft Crossbody Bags and Purses

There are many types of anti-theft purses and bags that you can use to travel safe and we wanted to outline some of the latest designs to help travellers protect their valuables and their personal identities.

Pacsafe Citysafe LS400 RFID Travel Tote

secure travel purse

If you are looking for something on the larger side, this is a great option. I love carrying large bags when traveling because I pack a lot of stuff to go out each day. This Pacsafe Tote holds my camera and even my computer when flying. The inner compartment is large so I can rummage through to find what I need.

It has reinforced locking zippers, eXomesh Slashguard stainless steel wire mesh embedded into the fabric to protect from a slash and grab, a slash guard strap and turn and lock security to fasten my bag to a secure fixture at an airport, patio, or restaurant.

Having zippers reinforced and lockable in your travel bag is a must. Take it from us, we’ve had people rummage through our bags without us noticing stealing our valuables. No matter how much you keep an eye on your bags, things can easily go missing.

Travelon Anti Theft Classic Messenger Bag

travelon anti theft bag

If you are looking for a different style and more compact the Travelon Antitheft Bag is a classic messenger bag design with anti-theft security. It has all the same features and functions as the classic Travel Bag, with the added feature of two outside pockets for water bottles and an umbrella.

Travelon Anti Theft Purse

anti theft travel purse

Travelon Anti-Theft Purse – This classic Mini Shoulder Bag is a classic one size fits all travel bag that has all the antitheft functions you need. It also has a removable LED light and a mesh expansion water bottle holder that you can open when needed.

  • Locking zipper compartments
  • Slash-proof construction
  • Adjustable, cut-proof shoulder strap attaches to post or chair
  • RFID blocking pocket for credit cards and passports.

When walking through a crowded market, I can lock my zippers so that nobody can rummage through my valuables. I used to constantly walk with my hand on my zipper or squeeze my bag under my arm pit. Now I walk with a little more comfort.

Pacsafe City Safe Antitheft Travel Purse -Small Crossbody Bag

security purse for travel

The PacSafe Women’s Citysafe Cs100 Anti-Theft Handbag Travel Cross-Body Bag is a smaller version of the travel tote I mentioned at the top. I like to use this bag when I’m just going out sans camera.

This is more of a purse than a travel bag, but it is a great option to pack in your suitcase and bring out at night or while sightseeing. It doesn’t hold a large camera or computer, but it has all the antitheft functions and is still large enough to hold everything you need.

Small Secure Crossbody Hip Travel Purse

security travel purse

If you are looking to dress things up a bit, this Pacsafe Crossbody Safety Purse gets rave reviews. Its long shoulder straps work for everyone, it mixes fashion with function but is big enough to hold what you need.

Minicat Cross Body Purse

This doesn’t look at all like a travel purse and when traveling to places like London or Paris it is exactly what you need to blend in in the city. It’s small, so you can’t take along the normal travel gear you want, but if you are heading out to the clubs or shopping on the Champs-Élysées, you’ll look good and keep safe. This travel purse has the usual RFID lining and secure cross body straps, and covered zipper. It has a built in wallet to keep your cards secure.

Choosing the Best Anti Theft Bags

Travelon and Pacsafe are both great options for safe and secure travel bags. Travelon has more options for small travel purses and more urban designs, but Pacsafe has more options for functionality and travel specific uses. Take a look at both brands to see what features best suit your needs.

Anti Theft Purse Backpacks

For the longest time I avoided purse backpacks because I felt vulnerable having my valuables on my back. But with all the new anti theft technology, things are much safer. Dave and I both carry a lot of camera gear and I used to always only use a messenger bag. But now, when we are going out, I need to save my back and evenly distribute the weight. A backpack is great for this.

Look for a backpack that has locking zippers, steel mesh lining, and slash proof straps – You are now good to go. Check out these options for cute nights out to full day packs.

Sherpani Sojourn, Anti Theft Convertible Backpack

crossbody bag anti theft convertible backpack

This versatile backpack, purse and tote is a great option to change things. up when you travel. It can be a backpack, tote or cross body purse offering different options for any occassion when traveling. Plus it has all the anti theft security features you are looking for. It comes in a small version as well.

Baggallini Convertible Backpack

Anti theft sling bags

If you want to dress up your anti theft bag a bit, this backpack is trendy and cool looking. It will blend with your wardrobe for a night out or a day of sightseeing. It’s cute and is small enough for those places that don’t allow large bags or backpacks and stylish enough to wear out at night.

Anti Theft Travel Bags for Men

Anti Theft Backpack

safe bag for travel anti theft backpack

We are fans of the Pacsafe Design and a great option for an anti theft travel backpack is the Pacsafe Venturesafe EXP45 Anti-Theft Carry-On Travel Backpack . The 45-liter size is small enough for carryon and it has the anti-theft features you need for opeace of mind. Reinforced zippers can all be zipped to one central point to secure the backpack to a fixture. This is great when sleeping on trains or overnight buses.

You have peace of mind that everything is closed, locked and secure. The wire mesh fabric protects from slash and grabs, and it holds, laptops, and all your travel gear and clothing if you pack light. This is a great option for backpacking through Southeast Asia.

Anti Theft Camera Backpack

pacsafe anti theft bags

While Dave has a very set system with his camera gear using Shimoda, there are great backpacks specified to camera gear. If you want a camera bag made for professional photography that holds several lenses and camera bodies, you will want to go with something else. Check out Dave’s Travel Photography Gear Guide

But this is a good camera backpack option. We recommend a backpack over a cross body messenger bag as camera gear can be very heavy. We are fans of PacSafe – and the PacSafe Camsafe X17 Anti-Theft Camera Backpack is a good option to carry all your camera gear with the usual anti-theft features.

Anti Theft Bag Accessories and Alternatives

Pacsafe travel organizer.

pacsafe wallet anti theft travel accessories

I don’t want to always carry my tote or travel purse, so this folding wallet turns into a nice anti theft travel purse. (even though it is really a wallet). I’ve put my cellphone, a portable charger, and a charging cord into this handy organizer to go out at night. It’s RFID secure and there is a strap that I fasten to my wrist so nobody can grab it out of my hand. It’s not exactly a handbag, but I use my Pacsafe Travel Organizer as a clutch purse at night.

Leather RFID-Blocking Thinfold Wallet

wallet anti theft wallets

Dave rarely carries a wallet these days. I’m his designated wallet carrier. Thankfully I have all those secure purses and bags to keep everything safe . But when he does, he also makes sure his credit and bank cards are safe with RFID Technology. It easily holds all his credit cards and money.

Pickpocket Proof Pants

To keep his wallet safe, he wears pickpocket-proof shorts or pants . (basically pants with button pockets) These pants have come a long way baby. When traveling, you don’t always want to carry a bag, sometimes we just want to go for a walk through town with a few items and some cash. The Pickpocket proof pants are the answer with deep pockets that are protected with a zipper and button for extra protection.

FlexSafe Aqua Vault

This is a great idea when hanging out at the pool of a resort or when on a lounge chair at the beach. Read: Things to do in Daytona Beach

We all hate going into the water and having to hide our belongings. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in the water fretting over my valuables.

Well, now you can lock them to your lawn chair and enjoy our time in the pool!

PacSafe Anti theft Travel Bag Protector

pacsafe anti theft alternatives

The Pacsafe Travel Bag protector put our minds at ease when travelling on the train and when leaving our beach bungalow. This item is excellent for securing all valuables in one place.

Often when traveling on trains in Asia, your bags will be stuck somewhere else. With a Pacsafe protector, you can wrap a lightweight steel frame around your bag and lock it to a pole. We could sleep soundly knowing that our valuables were locked securely to a pole inside its own vault like safe. When we stayed in some questionable accommodation on the beach, we locked our computers and cameras up inside a bag and locked it to the bed frame.

It can add extra weight to your luggage , but we didn’t regret the extra weight when traveling through India. We used it all the time as we were on a tight budget and our accommodations never felt completely secure. With the pacsafe protector, we locked everything and enjoyed our day.

Luggage locks

luggage lock anti theft travel accessories

We like to lock our luggage when in transit. Even while standing in line, people can easily get into your zippers. Luggage locks give you that extra protection to deter thieves. We always say, “ why make things easy for people ?” Thieves look for easy targets. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stood in a queue and noticed my fellow passengers dragging bags behind them that are wide open.

Be it a carryon roller, backpack, or rolling duffel bag anyone can stick their hand in and rummage through your things. Luggage locks are lightweight and easy to open, help to make things difficult for criminals.

Other Anti Theft Products

Let’s face it, sometimes you don’t want to carry anything but your cell phone when going out on the town or going sightseeing. These are some anti theft alternatives to carry some cash and credit without having the fear of being pickpocketed.

  • Bra Wallet – Great for keeping ID, money, and credit cards safe. Clips to your bra letting you enjoy a night on the town hands-free. Note: It is not big enough to hold a phone.
  • Security Belt – RFID Blocking wallet that clips to your waistband. It holds credit cards, ID, and money. It is not big enough for a cell phone.
  • Travel Scarf – Go hands-free to the market with a zip-locked secure travel scarf to carry your ID, cash, and credit cards. It is also big enough to cover your head and shoulders for going into temples or places where you need to cover up.
  • Money Belt – A good old fashioned money belt lets you carry passports, and other valuables under your clothing. But this money belt has a modern touch with flexible spandex fabric and enough space to store phones.
  • Neck Wallet – Don’t want the bulk of a money belt? A neck wallet lets you go through the airport handsfree with enough space to hold all your travel documents.

Luggage tracker

We can’t always be with our luggage when flying. Even when traveling carryon only, you sometimes have to check a bag on smaller planes. If luggage does get lost, it’s a bonus to have an extra set of security to track your luggage. It has automatic Worldwide Tracking with Cell-tower Connected Technology.

Travel Tips for Anti Theft Bags

travel tips for safe anti theft bag uses

Well, you’ve made it this far, let’s go over the best practices to keep you and your valuables safe when traveling.

  • Split your valuables between bags – It’s a great idea to put some valuables in your travel purse, your backpack and your carryon so if something does go missing, you’ won’t lose everything.
  • When sightseeing, don’t carry your passport with you. Keep it safe and secure in your hotel room safe.
  • Leave behind a credit card so you have a backup in case of emergency at your hotel. Don’t carry every credit card and all your money at all times.
  • Choose a cross body purse or travel bag to avoid slash and grabs.
  • Keep your over the shoulder bag close and in front of you in public markets and transit. (pickpockets are good and can get into reinforced zippers)

Thanks for providing such wonderful tips. These tips really gonna help us lot while traveling.

Just some small things. Most bags/cases have two zips that close using flat tabs attached to the ‘pullalong’ part of the zip. Using multi-tools/pliers, destroy the tabs – they’re easy to bend/break as they’re connected by small circles of weak wire – & substitute suitably-sized spilt rings. **In cold weather you can easily put a finger in each split ring to open your bag quickly, & for security you can link the rings using a travelling padlock. Memorize the number but don’t label the bottom of the lock**. If you use a rucksack, attach a large split ring to each loop used to pull down the straps when you put the bag over your shoulders It’s so much faster. For compartment zips on the ruck sack, remove the loops & use split rings for the reasons given above(**) Have secure holidays !!

I have a question do you think it is possible to hack data when my laptop is off and it is in my bag?

Although I would prefer to be safe, rather regret it later.

Great advice you guys! Love the beach shots, too! Looks like Daytona Beach down here in Florida! 🙂

Very helpful Article,You Are Collecting Useful Points here, thanks for sharing us….

You’re welcome, cheers1

It is unbelievable how people can theft your personal details out of your credit and debit cards . I had no idea about RFID skimming. Thanks for the information. I must say it is very informative and people should be aware of it for safe travel.

These are some great ideas. I never heard of RFID until now. It is a scary thought. I will certainly look into some of these items. Luggage locks were something that I used to use until Airline Security broke my locks in order to get into my luggage to check it for any terrorist threats. They left a note in my luggage that they did this and then re-secured the luggage with a nylon tie. I realized that if I bought a new lock to put on my luggage, that they would just break that one too. So I stopped using luggage locks and just used nylon ties like the airlines do. I guess sometimes security items can be compromised for the sake of security.

By the way, I agree that Apple computer products are the way to go. There are less hackers on these computers than there are on PCs. All my computer products are Apple.

My mom had been telling me about RFID for about a year or so and I didn’t really listen. She had a pocket that the bank gave her, but it’s awesome to have a full wallet now. I think it’s going to become a real problem in the future.

Didn’t realize they now have RFID wallets. I need to get one that can hold passport. I found a good one on the Travel Smith, thanks. Also it was nice meeting you guys at Thursday’s Travel Massive event.

There are RFID passport holders and wallets combined. I have a large passport holder wallet, but there are other options that you can buy that aren’t quite as big as mine. Since I carry a purse, I can have a larger wallet.

Thanks for providing useful information, we used PacSafe Bag Protector when we travelled within India.

Hi Dave, Very helpful article. I now know what to do and what not to do while traveling. Pankaj

Great article. Keeping everything safe is always something really important to us but it’s also important to keep our luggage contents down. I saw an RFID over shoulder satchel only last week and considered very seriously making the purchase. I might go back and revisit it now.

We’ve been lucky enough to never have anything stolen while travelling (except that one time when Stephen was mugged at knifepoint in an alley in Spain, I guess).

One security tip I love is to keep a little cash in a scrappy wallet and use that when you pay for things. I have a hand-made duct tape wallet that looked like something a 12-year-old would carry and it helps give off the impression that I don’t have anything worth stealing if that’s what my wallet looks like. If someone does decide to pickpocket me, they only get a little cash. Meanwhile, I still have my cards and other cash either tucked away deep inside a bag or a money belt.

It has worked so far, but as we get older and travel to more expensive places, we might just need to invest in some nicer gear so thanks for the reviews.

The idea of a RFID thief scares the crap out of me … thnaks for bringing it to my attention!

It really is crazy how people can scan your card to get information like that. It’s easier to prevent that from happening than to fix it after the information has been stolen, so be prepared! It’s worth spending the money on protective gear.

Thank you so much for the tips. Very useful when traveling.

Thanks for providing useful information, as we lost our luggage in Miami last year.

Traveling often involves switching up your regular bags and purses to lightweight, safer, and more protective vessels to keep your most prized possessions safely by your side.

Whether you are worried about pickpockets, concerned about skimmers, or simply want to keep your bag by your side while also keeping your hands free to explore, a travel crossbody bag offers the perfect blend of practical safety features and stylish good looks on the go.

When you are out and about, being able to keep your hands free is an absolute game-changer. No more having to place your bag on the counter or the floor while you pay for your goods, or worrying about your backpack being attacked from behind. Crossbody bags are stylish, comfortable to wear, and help to distribute the bulk evenly without weighing down 1 shoulder as a traditional tote bag can.

As an experienced traveler, one of the greatest benefits of using a crossbody bag is the feeling of security it affords you . You can swing the bag around to the front of your torso, making it very hard for would-be criminals to access or snatch along the way.

These types of bags are also lightweight and easy to access, making it super-convenient to reach inside and grab your wallet, room key, phone, and any other essentials while you are on the move. Perfect for days out in busy cities, they are also just as useful on your morning commute, while still being stylish enough to wear with your best dress on a night out.

If you find the right crossbody bag, you will quickly appreciate just how well it strikes a perfect balance between style and functionality.

Bottom Line: Whether you choose a super-fancy designer version or a cheap one from the internet, crossbody bags can see you through from day to night, without ever having to compromise on style or practicality.

Things To Consider With Crossbody Bags

Crossbody bags

Your crossbody bag needs to be big enough to hold everything you need to take out with you, without being so big and bulky that it weighs you down.

Because you want to be able to wear your bag slung low across your hips, crossbody bags are generally smaller and more compact than tote bags , backpacks , shoulder bags, or even sling backpacks . With this in mind, keep a lookout for a crossbody that is compact but still has enough space to hold your tablet or e-reader , your wallet , cell phone, cards, passport, and any other day-to-day essentials.

Crossbody bag material

Most crossbody bags that are designed with travel in mind are often made of nylon. This is because nylon is strong, durable, and easy to keep clean. Really well-designed bags often have lighter-colored fabric on the inside, so it is easier to see what’s inside the bag when you are fishing around for your purse, wallet, keys, or cell phone.

Many of the very best crossbody bags have extra components hidden behind the stylish exterior. These include slash-proof mesh hidden in the fabric or steel ribbons running through the straps and handles. This makes them slash-resistant and less attractive to thieves, and therefore more likely to last for a great many adventures than regular cotton, canvas, or even leather bags.

If you are planning on carrying your crossbody around with you for longer periods of time, it will need to be super-comfy. As it is worn across 1 shoulder, the strap must be padded and soft enough to rest without digging in, no matter how heavy your bag gets, and the buckle should remain far away from your skin.

Hot Tip: It is also helpful if the bag has some padding to keep your belongings from bouncing off your hips as you walk.

Crossbody bag pockets

Because crossbody bags work better when they maintain a slim silhouette, you may expect them to have fewer compartments than your traditional backpack or tote bag. Expect to find at least 1 main internal compartment for keeping the majority of your belongings in, including your tablet or e-reader, and then additional sections for pens, phones, and other essentials.

You will most likely be able to utilize space on the outside of your crossbody bag by way of extra zippered pockets on the front of the back of the bag, as well as useful little side pockets for carrying water bottles and other essentials.

Crossbody bags security

Many of the excellent crossbody bags in this list feature so much more than just good-sized compartments and great looks. Anti-theft mechanisms are an integral part of the success of travel bags, and the space where you keep your most prized possessions should be the safest of all.

You’ll want to look for lockable zippers, slash-proof material strengthened with mesh, straps with stainless steel inner ribbons, and RFID technology to protect your cards and passports from scans and skimmers. All of these will help to protect your gear from would-be thieves and criminals.

When you are out and about, it can be easy to get caught out by the weather. Water-resistant crossbody bags offer some protection against damp conditions and the occasional light splash, but they are not fully waterproof.

Hot Tip: If you feel you need a bag that offers complete protection against heavy rain or the risk of submergence in water, look into waterproof bags designed for outdoor activities instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wear a crossbody bag as a shoulder bag.

There is no reason why you physically couldn’t switch a crossbody bag or purse to your shoulder and wear it as a shoulder bag. However, by doing this, you would be negating the benefits of having it secure around your body, avoid it slipping from your shoulder, and positioning it easily to your front in crowded places.

Why are crossbody bags for travel so popular?

There are 2 main reasons crossbody bags are so popular for travel. The first is that they look fashionable and can look and function just as well as the handbag or purse you use at home. The second reason is the security features most travel crossbody bags have, such as slash-resistant straps and sides, RFID-blocking material, and lockable compartments.

What length should a crossbody bag be?

The length of your crossbody bag really depends on the length of your torso. A crossbody bag strap should come from your shoulder and sit comfortably on your hip on the other side.

Are crossbody bags good for your back?

A crossbody bag will never be as good for your back compared to a backpack that allows equal weight distribution across both shoulders. However, crossbody bags and purses are usually small for everyday essentials, so they won’t be too heavy and affect your back too much.

What is the best purse to travel with?

The OGIO Women’s Brooklyn Tablet Purse is a unique-looking crossbody bag that is practical, stylish, and designed with the needs of the traveler in mind. Featuring 2 large main compartments and a front flap that is designed to hide a zippered pocket in plain sight, your belongings will stay well-protected while still being close at hand.

Wallet for AirTag

Best Leather AirTag Wallet

Ekster wallet for airtag.

Below, we’re rounding up the best AirTag wallets we’ve found as well as what you should consider before buying one and why you should trust Good Housekeeping. Consult our guides to the best smart wallets , laptop sleeves and iPhone cases for more tech finds.

Featuring a pebbled exterior, this Typecase wallet is made from cowhide leather, according to the brand. What sets it apart from other wallets is it has two pockets to safely secure an AirTag : one allows you to keep an eye on the tracker from the exterior and the other is a more discrete flap if you prefer your AirTag to stay hidden. It also has two bill compartments, six horizontal credit card slots, two vertical pockets and an ID window with a thumb slot.

To feel more secure, there’s a RFID-blocking layer that claims to keep out radiowave interception of personal data without interfering with the AirTag signal. Some reviewers state that the interior AirTag compartment interferes with the room in the bill compartment, but there should still be enough space for bills. We also love that it comes in eight sleek leather colors and the bifold design makes it easy to tuck into a pocket or purse.

Coming in nine different hues, including a light blue and pink, this minimalist wallet is slim enough to fit in a back pocket. Although it’s compact, it still manages to hold one ID card, five credit cards, six folded bills and an AirTag. The built-in holder is at the front of the wallet, so you can keep an eye on it and see that it’s still there. Made of faux leather, it only clocks in at around $12 and it’s easy to wipe down clean. Although it’s not built with RFID-blocking technology, reviews say they still feel secure with it.

Designed to fit in most cardholder slots, this AirTag holder measures a svelte 0.1-inches in thickness. The holder also won't disrupt your AirTag's signal, and we like that you can use water for easy-cleaning without getting the AirTag itself wet. Although this option doesn't hold other items like your credit card or cash, it conveniently keeps your AirTag in one place so that it doesn't slip out of your wallet. It's made of durable plastic and even has a key ring hole, so you can clip the holder to your key chain.

If you only want to add an AirTag to your current wallet rather than purchasing an AirTag-specific wallet, this insert is your best bet. While slipping the tracker in a regular wallet can result in some bulging or put the AirTag at risk for falling out, this slim, flexible insert can fit in a card slot discreetly and securely hold an AirTag. It’s shorter than a credit card so it won’t pop out and is about the thickness of two cards, according to reviews.

For those worried about their AirTag slipping out of your wallet, this one is for you. With the included screwdriver, you’re able to r emove the outer plate of the wallet and securely place the tracker — plus there’s two included stickers to prevent the AirTag from scratching. Made of aluminum, it also features RFID-blocking and has the capacity to hold up to 15 cards. It doesn’t have a cash strap, but you can purchase an upgraded model if you need one.

A sleek polycarbonate exterior combined with RFID-blocking technology in this wallet will make you feel like both your money and AirTag is secure. Because the wallets itself is made of aluminum, you can feel extra secure knowing you can see the RFID-material in action. It holds up to 12 cards in the interior, and a stretchy strap over circular silicone pads holds bills in place. You can pop your AirTag in the detachable polycarbonate cover so you’ll never misplace your wallet, which is especially important considering its slim size.

A bifold wallet is great for someone who carries a lot of cash or cards, and this AirTag-compatible option allows for the tracker to slide into the front of the wallet, which also has six card slots, an ID window and a bill pocket . Some of the cards can be seen from the exterior of the wallet, but you’ll also feel secure knowing there’s RFID-blocking built-in. It’s made of a soft horse leather that comes in a rainbow of 14 colors to best suit your style.

When traveling internationally, your passport is the last thing you want to lose. This passport/wallet/AirTag holder combo is the perfect solution to calm any travel worries . Made of vegan leather, it has three card compartments, one passport pocket and one vaccine card slot. You also have two options for stashing your AirTag: a pocket attached to the snap closure or a keychain you can hook onto the passport holder — or elsewhere if you'd like. It has a slim profile too, but some reviewers state it can be a tight squeeze if you add too much.

Adventurers need to keep a hold on their wallets too! This wallet for WXM might look a bit bulky but the brand claims that it’s made of military-grade materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum alloy that makes it durable and surprisingly lightweight. Aside from withstanding a couple of drops, it can hold up to 15 credit cards, has a money clip, uses RFID-blocking technology and has a slot for your AirTag. It comes in nine different color options, including brighter ones to balance out the rugged vibe.

It's pricey, but this longer wallet is made with premium American leather, has a high-quality option feel and is available in black or brown. It features a custom pocket to tuck your AirTag into to track your wallet that adds nothing more than an imperceptible bulge. It can hold up to 12 cards, features RFID-blocking technology and has a money clip for cash. The neatest feature might be the sliding pop-up cardholder that lifts up the cards with the push of a button.

How we chose the best AirTag wallets

line break

To find the AirTag wallets that were up to par, our editors considered a variety of sizes that would still be able to fit in a pocket or small purse. When choosing the best ones, we assessed where the AirTag was held, read reviews and looked over product claims to assure that the closure was tight and the construction wouldn’t create too much of a bulge in the wallet itself.

With about four hours of research and product consideration, there were a few key factors we looked into. While we considered all materials like leather, aluminum and polycarbonate to offer options at different price points, we favored those that were durable and high quality construction that wouldn’t fall apart. We prioritized models that feature RFID-blocking technology for an extra level of security. To accommodate for different kinds of people (cash vs. card), we choose both bifold and cardholder options.

What to look for when shopping for AirTag wallets

line break

Before picking an AirTag wallet there are a few things to consider to best match your lifestyle and how often you’ll likely need to search for your wallet.

✔️ Material: The material you choose is both reflective of your aesthetic choice and the durability of the wallet. Leather is one of the most popular options and is quite durable, and aluminum is one of the strongest ones. For something a little cheaper, you may want to opt for synthetic materials like polyurethane, though they may not last as long.

✔️ Size: You want your wallet to easily fit into a pocket or purse, but not be too small to misplace (although that’s what the AirTag is for, right?). Thickness is also important; anything thicker than 0.5 inches might be too large to fit into a back pocket, especially after filling it with cards and money.

✔️ Security: To protect your credit card data from being stolen we recommend using a wallet with built in RFID-blocking, which uses a thin layer of carbon fiber or aluminum to block the electromagnetic signal emitted from your card. This can help you protect the personal and financial information that is stored on your credit cards from being accessed from thieves. Typically it's hidden under the leather material of the wallet or is built into the metal material, depending on the kind you choose.

✔️ Type: Some of the most popular options for wallets include bifold, card holders and money clips. If you’re someone who wants to carry cash, bifolds offer more storage for paper money. A cardholder will offer more slots for cards and some have clips to stash a few dollars as well. They might not hold as much, but they’re typically sleeker and more minimal.

✔️ Capacity: Depending on how many cards you have, card capacity for smaller wallets can be around three, while a larger wallet can hold nearly a dozen. Note that the AirTag slot can take up room where a card could be held as well.

What we love most: As with everything Rothy's, it's sustainably made and machine washable.

Best crush-proof bag

Image may contain: Cylinder, Tin, and Can

This crush-proof canister-style crossbody is meant to protect your essentials—like a favorite pair of sunglasses, a tube of hand sanitizer, or a fragile film camera you love to travel with—in a lightweight, streamlined design. The water-resistant interior will also keep everything dry, just in case. What we love most, though, is the chic, retro, monogrammable style—nobody will ever believe it's practical, too.

Best for hiking

Whether you're hiking , biking, or heading out for a game of pickleball, this convenient and compact water bottle holder saves you the hassle of lugging around a heavy, full-size bag. My favorite feature is the insulated and water-resistant interior, but it also comes with multiple pockets, a detachable shoulder strap, and a drawstring closure—a nice touch when you're on the move. It's available in more than a dozen colors and fun patterns.

Best for holding your phone

If you're looking for something that holds your ID, phone, and not much else, say for runs, hikes, or walking around a cruise ship, turn to this slim crossbody from Béis. It's available in the brand's signature beige and black.

Best for parents

MZ Wallace designs some of our top editor-recommended sling bags and duffels . We equally love this lightweight, diamond-quilted crossbody bag that's ideal for busy parents or travelers on the move who need something reliable. There's an exterior zippered pocket for easy access to items like your phone or wallet, and the bag is water-resistant and washable.

FEIG ELECTRONIC: Moscow-City Skyscrapers Streamline Parking Access and Control with Secure RFID

Feig electronic partners with isbc group to deploy ucode dna rfid security and parking access control solution in moscow business district.

Weilburg, Germany  — December 3,  2019  —  FEIG ELECTRONIC , a leading global supplier of radio frequency identification (RFID) readers and antennas with fifty years of industry experience, announces deployment of the UCODE DNA RFID security and parking contactless identification solution in the Moscow International Business Center, known as Moscow-City, one of the world’s largest business district projects.

The management of Moscow-City not only selected long-range, passive UHF RFID to implement in its controlled parking areas, it also chose to implement UCODE DNA , the highest form of secure RAIN RFID technology, developed by NXP Semiconductors.

“Underscoring NXP’s innovation and leadership in developing advanced RAIN RFID technologies, our UCODE DNA was chosen to be incorporated with the FEIG and ISBC implementation of the contactless identification system in the prestigious Moscow-City,” said Mahdi Mekic, marketing director for RAIN RFID with NXP Semiconductors. “This exciting project represents yet another successful deployment of NXP’s contactless portfolio, and showcases our continued ability to meet the high-security requirements of highly demanding applications without compromising user convenience.”

“UCODE DNA is considered the only identification technology to match the physical protection of a barrier with the cybersecurity necessary to truly protect entrances from unauthorized access,” said Manuel Haertlé, senior product manager for FEIG Electronic. “As a respected contactless payment technology company, FEIG applies security know-how from its payment terminals, which are fully certified according to the latest high-class security standards, into our RFID systems. FEIG vehicle access control RFID readers incorporate advanced secure key storage elements, supporting various methods for secure key injection.”

FEIG’s partner ISBC Group provided the knowledge and support for this successful implementation using  FEIG’s long-range UHF RFID . The resulting system enables authorized vehicle entry into areas reserved for private residential use or corporate tenants, while also allowing availability of temporary, fee-based visitor parking. Thanks to the cryptographic authentication of UCODE DNA, both the tag and reader must go through an authentication procedure before the reader will validate the data from the tag, which is transmitted wirelessly. This level of authentication is typically used in the most secure data communication networks.

“The system’s two-step authentication means that only authorized equipment can handle the secure protocol and the data exchange with the UCODE DNA based tag. Without the required cryptographic secrets, other readers would query the tag in vain, because the tag’s response cannot be interpreted or understood,” said Andrey Krasovskiy, director of the RFID department at ISBC Group. “On top of this, each data exchange in the authentication process is unique, so even if a malicious actor were to intercept the communication, the transmission is only good for a single exchange and the tag’s unique identity is protected from cloning.”

Established in 1992 and still growing, Moscow-City is the revitalization and transformation of an industrial riverfront into a new, modern, vibrant and upscale business and residential district. A mix of residential, hotel, office, retail and entertainment facilities, it is located about four kilometers west of Red Square along the Moscow River. Twelve of the twenty-three planned facilities have already been completed, with seven currently under construction. Six skyscrapers in Moscow-City reach a height of at least 300 meters, including Europe’s tallest building, Federation Tower, which rises more than 100 stories.

Partnering with ISBC and deploying FEIG Electronic RFID solutions, the Moscow International Business Center is delivering security and access control to its city center today, as it grows into the city of tomorrow.

About FEIG ELECTRONIC

Founded in Moscow in 2002, ISBC Group provides knowledge and support to integrators for their successful implementation of RFID and smart card-based solutions. The company specializes in the distribution of smart card equipment, contact and contactless card manufacturing, smart card and RFID personalization services, and information security.  Its Research and Design Center is focused specifically on RFID, primarily HF and UHF solutions with NXP tags, and software development for the smart card industry. For more information visit:  https://isbc-cards.com/

Moscow Travel Guide: Best Things to Do + More [2023]

· everything to know about visiting moscow, including the best things to do and how to get around. ·.

Moscow is Russia’s vibrant capital city, and it also happens to be the largest city in all of Europe. The city’s long and infamous history makes it one of the most unique places we have ever visited.

The architecture ranges from centuries-old palaces to uniform, gray concrete buildings. The people range from cold and private to warm and welcoming. Moscow is a city is strong juxtapositions, and we learned a lot during our time there.

This post will break down all you need to know about visiting Moscow, including the best things to do, how to get there, how to get around, and more.

The Best Things to Do in Moscow

1. explore the red square.

The Red Square is the heart of Moscow. Most of the city’s top attractions can be found here, including just about everything on this list. The Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral, and Lenin’s Mausoleum are all located here, and the State Historical Museum and GUM are not far from here, either.

The Red Square is a common home for parades, protests, and seasonal celebrations. There are massive Christmas celebrations here, with food vendors and carnival rides set up in numbers.

2. Check Out the Ziferblat

The Ziferblat is a café in Moscow that is unlike any café we have ever been to. While most cafes charge you for your drinks and food, the Ziferblat charges you for your time.

Upon arrival, you are given a clock. When you leave, the barista calculates how much time you spent in the café and charges you accordingly. This concept was created to help visitors to be more intentional with their time, and the cafe itself is incredibly charming.

For a detailed look at everything you need to know before you visit, make sure you read my post about visiting the Ziferblat Cafe in Moscow .

3. Marvel at St. Basil’s Cathedral

St. Basil’s Cathedral is one of the most iconic churches in the world, and it was the single thing we were most excited to see while in Moscow. Built almost 500 years ago, St. Basil’s Cathedral is recognized by its colorful domes and whimsical style. The church is of the Russian Orthodox faith, and the inside is just as wondrous as the outside.

St. Basil’s Cathedral is located on the edge of the Red Square, making it incredibly convenient to visit. Entrance for non-worshippers costs 800 rubles, and tickets can be bought at the church

4. Explore the Kremlin

The Kremlin is the largest active fortress in Europe, and it is the site of most of Russia’s government affairs. In addition to government buildings, the Kremlin Complex is filled with courtyards, towers, and museums that are open to the public. If you have the time, you could spend a couple of days fully exploring all that there is to see in the Kremlin.

5. Walk Through Lenin’s Mausoleum

Vladimir Lenin is one of the most important figures in Russian history, and his body is located perfectly embalmed in a mausoleum in the Red Square. The Mausoleum is open to the public to visit, and as long as you are willing to go through a few security checks, it is easily one of the best things to do in Moscow. Its convenient location in the Red Square makes it a can’t miss attraction.

There is absolutely no photography allowed inside the Mausoleum. Do not test this rule.

6. Wander Along Arbat Street

The Arbat is a very popular street in Moscow that is lined with stores, cafes, and other touristy attractions. It is one of the oldest streets in the city, dating back to the 1400s. This street is both quaint and trendy, and there are many walking tours that introduce tourists to the neighborhood’s wonders and highlights.

7. Catch a Show at the Bolshoi Theatre

As a lover of the arts, it is hard to think of Moscow and not think of ballet. Russia has always been a top dog in the world of fine arts, and Bolshoi Theater is one of the best places to catch a performance. We were lucky enough to attend an Opera here, and it is a venue that you don’t want to miss out on if you enjoy opera, ballet, or orchestral performances.

8. Visit the State Historical Museum

The State Historical Museum is one of the most respected museums in Moscow. Despite its name, it is not really focused on the history of Russia as a nation. Rather, it contains a collection of artifacts from all throughout Russia’s history.

The museum’s collection is very broad in nature. It houses some items from indigenous tribes that used to occupy the region, pieces collected by the Romanov family, and more.

9. Wander Around GUM

GUM is an absolutely massive mall within walking distance of the Red Square. It isn’t just the size that draws visitors here; it’s the sense of luxury. The mall is so beautiful inside, much like the metro stations.

While visiting a mall might not sound like it belongs on a bucket list, this mall does. You will not want to miss out on visiting GUM while in Moscow.

10. Admire the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour

While St. Basil’s Cathedral is the most iconic church in Moscow, it isn’t the only one. The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is absolutely stunning, with massive golden domes. It is the tallest Orthodox church in the world, and it is the seat of the Orthodox Patriarch of Moscow.

It is located just about a mile from the Red Square, just south of the Kremlin Complex. You can walk to it from the Red Square in about 20 minutes.

How to Get to Moscow

Flying to moscow.

Moscow has three major international airports: Sheremetyevo (SVO) , Domodedovo (DMO) , and Vnukovo (VKO) . All three of them are directly connected to downtown Moscow by the Aeroexpress trains, which leave every 30 minutes throughout the day. By Aeroexpress train, you can expect to get to the city center in 25-45 minutes depending on the airport that you fly into.

Sheremetyevo is the biggest and busiest of the three airports, and it is the one you are most likely to fly into – especially if you are coming from outside of Europe or the Caucus region. We flew into Sheremetyevo on a direct flight from New York City.

I usually provide backup airport options, because flying right into the city isn’t always the cheapest way to get where you’re going. Unfortunately, when it comes to Moscow, don’t really have a choice other than to fly right into Moscow. It is a very remote city, and it is usually the cheapest place to fly into in Russia as a whole.

Since Sheremetyevo is so busy, you will probably find a great flight option anyway. I wrote in  my post about finding cheap flights  that using hub airports will lead to more affordable airfare, and the same logic applies here. Even though Russia’s national airline, Aeroflot, is no longer a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, Moscow is still a major hub connecting passengers from all over the world.

Train or Bus to Moscow

Trains and buses are one of the most popular ways to get around Europe. However, they’re of very little use when you’re trying to get to Moscow.

Moscow is hundreds of miles from the nearest major cities. The only major European city that can even be reached within 8 hours on the ground is St. Petersburg, and even the Baltic capitals of Riga, Vilnius, and Tallinn are over 12 hours away.

If you want to get to Moscow, the best option is almost always to fly. While the train routes to Moscow are scenic, they simply take forever.

How to Get Around Moscow

METRO | TROLLEYS | TRAMS | BUSES

Moscow has one of the most memorable metro systems in the world. Its metro lines are very deep underground, and the stations are absolutely stunning. Each station has its own unique style, but all of them contain escalators that seem to go on forever.

turned-on chandelier on ceiling of moscow metro

The system was built in an effort to showcase the power of the Soviet Union and its bright future. The plans were a form of propaganda, but they resulted in what is still one of the most visually appealing subway systems on earth.

Moscow’s metro system isn’t just pretty. It is also very useful and accessible. The system has 17 lines that connect the city and its surrounding area.

But wait; there’s more!

The Moscow metro system is also incredibly affordable, with each ride costing less than a dollar. The metro is by far the best way to get around Moscow, as it is almost impossible to beat the connection times and the low cost to ride.

Tickets can be bought at electronic, English-speaking kiosks in stations, or directly from ticket counters at certain larger stations. There are also day passes available, which are a very solid option if you plan on riding the metro several times per day.

The metro is by far the best way to get around Moscow.

In addition to the metro system, Moscow also has a network of buses, trams, and trolleys. This system is nowhere near as convenient or well-connected as the metro, though, and is likely of little use to you during your trip. There is no Uber in Moscow, but a similar app named Yandex is available if you need a ride in a pinch.

How Many Days Do You Need in Moscow?

Moscow is the biggest city in all of Europe, and it is absolutely loaded with things to do. You could spend weeks in Moscow and still find new things to do. Of course, most travelers don’t have that kind of time to spend in one place!

I recommend spending no less than three full days in Moscow, and ideally closer to five or seven.

Moscow is very spread out, and it can take some time to get from one major point to another. There are also so many places that are nice to just sit back and relax, which is hard to do when you’re in a hurry trying to cram activities into just a few days.

If you only have a week to visit Russia, I’d advise spending all of the time in one city. If you decide to split your time between Moscow and St. Petersburg, I recommend not trying to squeeze in any day trips beyond those two cities.

When Is the Best Time of the Year to Visit Moscow?

There are two different ways to approach this question. Personally, I think the best time to visit Moscow is around Christmas and New Year’s Day. While the weather will be absolutely freezing, Moscow is a surreal winter wonderland in December and January.

We were in Moscow right before Christmas. While it was very cold, you can always bundle up. Exploring the Christmas markets and pop-up ice skating rinks throughout Moscow is one of my favorite memories from anywhere I’ve traveled, and I dream of going back to do it again.

If you aren’t fond of the cold, Moscow is beautiful in the summer. It tends to get pretty cold in the shoulder seasons, so if you want warm weather, you should plan to visit in the summer. Moscow actually gets pretty warm in July and August, and there are a bunch of fantastic places to soak up the sun within the city.

The best time to visit Moscow is either around Christmas or from late May to August.

Is Moscow Safe to Visit?

While Moscow is a truly wonderful city, there’s no denying that visiting Russia comes with risks. As the country is run by an infamous communist dictator, concerns about visiting are valid. While we didn’t experience any sort of threat or negative treatment during our time in Moscow, we visited in a peaceful time.

In our experience, Russia doesn’t seem to detain normal Americans or Westerners to use as pawns. As a regular person, as long as you don’t commit any crimes, there is a slim chance you will run into any issues. However, Russia will not hesitate to enforce its laws against foreigners, and illegal behaviors will likely land you in a very compromising position.

Russia will not hesitate to enforce its laws against foreigners, and illegal behaviors will likely land you in a very compromising position.

To make matters worse, Russia has a bad reputation for gang violence. While the Russian mafia has very little interest in normal Western tourists, they won’t hesitate to pick a fight with anyone who ventures into their sphere of influence. If you seek out illegal substances or activities, you could be a target of the mafia.

If you seek out illegal substances or activities, you could be a target of the mafia.

Finally, since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, things are all very different. Russia is currently at war, and there are battles raging within 8 hours of Moscow. While it is still relatively safe to visit, that could change at any time as the war with Ukraine continues.

Is Moscow Worth Visiting?

Without a doubt, Moscow is worth visiting. It is one of the most unique major cities we have ever visited, and we hope to make it back one day. The Russian Orthodox churches are stunning, the city’s history is unlike any other, and the food is to die for.

While many visitors prefer St. Petersburg to Moscow, I think Moscow deserves a lot of hype of its own. Moscow is the beating heart of Russian culture and history, and it’s a place I highly recommend checking out if you have the chance.

Travel + Leisure

Taking any trip is amazing — but taking a trip with peace of mind? Even better. Safety is of utmost importance when traveling, but even more so when you’re solo or traveling through dense, packed cities that are known for pickpockets.

Thankfully, there’s a ton of effective travel safety gear out there that can make your time on the road just a bit more secure and comfortable. We identified 15 popular products that are gaining traction with travelers — and best of all, they’re all available at Amazon, so they’ll be shipped to your door with just a click, often in just a matter of days. Take comfort in knowing you’ve covered all your bases with your vacation planning, and enjoy your days off. That’s what a trip is all about, right?

She’s Birdie Personal Safety Alarm

If you’re traveling — and in particular, if you’re traveling solo — this T+L staff-trusted She’s Birdie personal safety alarm could be the most important thing you buy. A loud siren will play and a strobe light will flash when the safety alarm is set off, which is easy to do — just remove the pin from the top. To stop it or deactivate it, you just replace the pin. The alarm can be used multiple times and will continue for up to 40 minutes on one battery (batteries are replaceable). It comes in a ton of colors and attaches easily to your keychain or purse strap, etc. Plus, 5 percent of the profits are donated to organizations that focus on women’s safety.

Ace Mining Portable Door Lock

Add an extra level of protection to every stay with this Amazon No. 1 best-selling portable door lock. With this easy-to-install gadget, no one from the outside can get in, and you can rest (and sleep) easy knowing you’re safe and sound inside your Airbnb, hotel, or other home away from home. It can be installed in seconds, is small and easy to pack, and has two holes to fit pretty much any door. It’s made of stainless steel and will work time and time again.

Veger Portable Charger

There are few things more unsafe than letting your phone die, especially if you’re on your own. Make sure that doesn’t happen by keeping this portable charger juiced up and on hand. It’s an all-in-one charger, with an AC port and attached chargers for iPhone, Type C, and Micro USB, plus USB and USB C inputs so you can bring cords should you need. It’s perfectly thin and fits great in any tech organizer; just throw it in a bag or purse when you’re on the go.

StashBandz Unisex Running Belt

This running belt is great for everyday wear, keeping all your essentials on you while working out, but it also works great as a travel companion — stashing things like passports or keys out of sight while on the go. Especially great for areas that are heavy on pickpocketing, this undetectable money belt has stashable pockets, including a zippered front pocket. And with its extra-wide band, it can store quite a lot. It’s got moisture-wicking technology to keep things (a.k.a. you) from overheating, and is also great for holding medical gear.

Travelon Anti-Theft Bag

If you’re looking for a fantastic travel bag that’ll keep everything safe and secure, this is the one for you. It can be worn crossbody with an adjustable shoulder strap (for harder access for pickpockets and thieves) and also has an interior organizer with RFID-blocking material to protect your passports and credit cards. Even better, there’s a front zippered pocket under a magnetic flap for maximum security, a tethered interior key clip with an LED light, and locking zipper pulls.

Munio Self-Defense Keychain Kit

This self-defense tool that was created by a Martial Arts master and endorsed by police goes right on your keychain and can help in the event of an attack; keep it in your hand while walking and use the end to jab an attacker. The discreet design fits comfortably in your palm, and on the outside, it just looks like a decorative keychain. The company provides a free E-book and downloadable videos to show how to use the tool, and it is perfect for travel since it’s actually allowed on a plane.

TravelMore TSA-approved Luggage Locks, 4-pack

Not your average TSA lock, this one is sleek and well-designed, made with Zinc Alloy for extra durability. Lock them onto your luggage for security, while still being TSA-compliant (they can open and close them without issue). Because they’re so sleek, you can also use them for things like duffel bags, purses, and backpacks, making hiking, train travel, or going to high-trafficked areas more secure — basically a breeze.

Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector

You’ve heard the horror stories of carbon monoxide poisoning on trips (and if you haven’t, save yourself the Google and just know that it’s real). This No.1 best-selling portable carbon monoxide detector is the perfect thing to keep in your luggage and set up as you unpack. It comes with two AA batteries and can be placed on any flat surface. “It’s so small we take it everywhere with us,” said one reviewer .

Homotek 2-Pack Wedge Rubber Door Stops

Another easy way to stop an intrusion before it happens is placing a door stopper underneath the hotel room or Airbnb door; this will help prevent or make it difficult to open the door from the outside. It’s also a great item for making sure doors stay open (and you stay safe), while doing routine things like taking out trash from an Airbnb or seeing what the rooftop views are from your rental.

Gorilla Grip Mini Flashlight

Yes, most of us have a flashlight on our phones — but that doesn’t quite help in the case of an emergency in which your phone dies. This mini flashlight will keep you cool and calm in any scenario, including navigating dark streets, figuring out power outages, and more. It’s also great to blind an attacker or use as a jabbing tool should the need arise. This one also features a strobe setting, which would be great for (god forbid) if you need to try and get someone’s attention. It’s made to sustain drops as well as water submersion and has an anti-slip handle.

LifeStraw Water Bottle

If you’re traveling to a destination where water could contain contaminants — or hiking, camping, and the like — you’ll want this water bottle. LifeStraw is known for its technology which filters out everything that could harm you (and obviously improves taste), and it’s been independently lab-tested to meet the protocols established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The filters last for lots of uses, and it’s easy to clean and super durable.

Thrive Mini First-Aid Kit

Don’t travel anywhere without a first-aid kit. Seriously. This one is super compact and easy to travel with and contains everything from antiseptic wipes and alcohol pads to gel burn packets and bandages. It also contains a first-aid guide that explains how to treat common injuries (ideal for when you don’t have technology right by your side). It’s an easy thing to throw and keep in your luggage trip after trip.

Apple AirTag

Where’s your suitcase? Where’s your purse? Where’s your wallet? With an AirTag, you will know exactly where everything is and how to get to it — perfect for not only keeping an eye (er, location tag) on things but also should something be stolen; you’ll be able to (hopefully) track it down (and alert authorities). It’s one of those things that you don’t know you need as much as you do until you have one.

FurArt Slim Wallet

With RFID-blocking technology, your credit cards and IDs are safe and sound from identity theft, and with its minimalist design, you can keep this on your body (instead of your bag or purse) should you want. This wallet also ensures you only take what you need on a trip, and you can leave the rest at home (or in a locked safe). It comes in a slew of colors and features a see-through ID pocket so you don’t even have to remove the ID, plus a buckle that you can hook to a keychain, carabiner, or lanyard.

Amazon Basics Portable Lock Box

This portable lock box will keep your valuables stashed, including passports, jewelry, keys, and more, and has both a combination lock and opening cable to use and lock how you wish. Most reviewers comment on how “ sturdy and solid ” this item is, and how it can fit a ton more stuff than you might think. It’s great for keeping in your carry-on and storing your valuables during a trip.
