The 22 Best Instagram Travel Accounts To Inspire You
Instagram is simple, it’s visual and it creates a quick emotional impact! It’s also a great way to discover new places around the world. No wonder I’m always seeking the best Instagram travel accounts to follow!
Even though I despise the direction Instagram is going, with self-proclaimed influencers spreading like wildfire ( beautypreneurs is a thing now…) I confess I do spend a significant amount of time there .
Sometimes double tapping cat videos. Sometimes stalking my friends. But I’m especially interested in new travel inspiration. And now I’m sharing them with you (the travel content, not the cats).
Best Instagram Travel Accounts to Follow >>
For this list, I tried to avoid hollow influencers who only use travel as a way of getting new backdrops for their own photos. The world needs valuable content, interesting things to learn and see and especially people who truly love to travel.
With no particular order, these are my favorite Instagram travel bloggers to feed your wanderlust (list updated May 2019). They are travel bloggers, Youtube stars, journalists or simple amateurs sharing real, honest, and interesting content.
Let’s get inspired!
1 @paulodelvalle
Paulo’s was one of the first accounts I followed in Instagram. He’s a Brazilian travel photographer, but mostly a storyteller. His amazing photos in the most varied landscapes inspired me to follow my own wanderlust dream.
Estou muito impressionado com a beleza dos templos e santuários japoneses. Cada um mais bonito que o outro! 😍 I’m really impressed with the beauty of the japanese temples and shrines. Each one prettier than the other! 😍 Tokyo, Japan. 🇯🇵 w/ @marlonduque A post shared by Paulo del Valle (@paulodelvalle) on Jan 3, 2016 at 6:11am PST
2 @youngadventuress
Liz is one of my favorite travel bloggers out there and Young Adventuress is a BIG SUCCESS in the travel blog world. What I particularly enjoy about her is how down-to-earth and unpretentious she is.
Her gallery in Instagram has bits and bobs from everywhere in the world, but mostly from the awe-inspiring New Zealand outdoors.

3 @treyratcliff
What I like the most about Trey’s body of work is that he’s not afraid of color. In fact, he’s all about color!
You can sneak peek his travel photography blog , displaying more of his amazing pictures.

4 @Tourist2Townie
I’ve been a follower of Gareth’s videos on Tourist2Townie’s Youtube channel for quite some time. I’ve always been a fan of the very down-to-earth and humble way he approaches travel, still managing to be informative and truly helpful.
His his Instagram “is secondary” (his words, not mine), but still very much worth it if you ask me.

5 @danielkordan
Daniel is a landscape photographer who shoots STUNNING pictures in remote places like Japan , Russia or Norway .
I have to confess I think this is one of the most inspiring Instagram accounts I’ve EVER come across. After all, 1M followers can’t be wrong.

6 @bemytravelmuse
I found Kristin’s Instagram very recently and made an impact on me. It’s one of those accounts you can’t stop scrolling down.
Once a former investment banker in the corporate world, Kristin is a now a travel writer exploring the world full-time. You can follow her on her blog too. Judging by her gallery, I’d say she chose the right path!

I’m going to be honest: I don’t know much about whoever is behind this account. In fact, I know nothing.
All I know is that the pictures here are breathtaking and make me want to go places. Apart from the visual element, there are also several inspiring descriptions. So Andy , whoever you are, you are awesome!

On her blog she writes in Spanish mainly, but her pictures on Instagram speak by themselves!

9 @AlexStrohl
What I like about Alex’s gallery is how impactful his pictures can be. A photographer keen on the more remote destinations, he is able to translate the wilderness of incredible nature landscapes directly into his shots.
Alex is one of my top favorite Instagrammers out there, so I strongly suggest take a peek at his account. His photos will surely wow you!

More than being just another National Geographic photographer, Krista has the amazing ability of telling a story. She’s in this list because of in-depth descriptions of her photos, which make the captures really come alive . With such an interesting gallery, she makes it so easy to travel along with her!
View this post on Instagram It was so normal in Myanmar to pass groups of young monks or nuns on the street or in temples….I even got cut off in traffic by monks on motor scooters! On my last night in Mandalay, I had just left the Sandamuni Pagoda when I came across these young Buddhist nuns draped in pink. I climbed Mandalay Hill into the sunset and who knows where they ended up. It is amazing how such disparate lives can pass in a flash…and how we smile at each other in our shared humanity. Thank you, Myanmar, for being friendly, welcoming, beautiful, and mysterious. I’ll be back and I hope that whatever changes as the country is opened to the world, that it doesn’t take the joy from the spirit of the beautiful Myanmar people. // #FujifilmX_US @FujifilmX_US @bhphoto #mywinteraway #FujifilmXT1 #Fujifilm @NatGeoCreative @NatGeoTravel A post shared by Krista Rossow (@kristarossow) on Mar 5, 2016 at 8:32pm PST

Originally from Hong Kong , Melissa Hie started this project because she felt awkward asking strangers to take pictures of her. So she started taking food selfies! On her Instagram you can find a bag of dutch fries in Amsterdam a corn bread in Indonesia , or this koulouri in Greece . I’m hooked!

Unfortunately there’s no simple answer and there’s no secret overnight success tip. . With that said, I truly believe ANYONE can do it if that’s what they really want to do! It just requires some hard work, and passion. 💪🏽 . There’s soo many things you can do online these days, there’s an infinite amount of opportunity, and so many resources to help you achieve goals. . So whether you’re a travel business who is looking for guidance on how to amp-up your Instagram account and reach new potential clients OR you’re a travel-lover ready to get inspired for your next world adventure, read on. These are 13 travel Instagram accounts you are going to want to follow.
13 Travel Instagram Accounts To Follow For Serious Inspiration and Wanderlust

If you enjoy jaw-dropping scenery and adrenaline-pumping adventures in the great outdoors, then Adventure Culture has just what you need. The creative agency equips active travelers for world travel and wild adventures.
2. Conde Nast Traveler: @cntraveler
For those of us who enjoy the finer things in life—like delectable cuisine and luxurious abodes—Conde Nast Traveler’s Instagram is sure to be a favorite. This travel company has been inspiring people through their stories for years, so it’s no surprise that their Instagram account is just as powerful.
3. Travel and Leisure: @travelandleisure
Want to know where the most beautiful places in the world are? Just take a look at Travel and Leisure’s Instagram. Their powerful photography makes for potent visual storytelling.
4. Australia Tourism Board: @australia
This is hands-down the best tourism board on Instagram. When recently working with a client in Israel, this is the sample account I used to demonstrate what a travel Instagram account that works actually looks like. If you’re a travel or tourism business, go get inspired to create similarly breathtaking images.
5. Explore Canada: @explorecanada
Another tourism board with enticing photographs that make me want to get on the next plane to Canada. Explore Canada does a particularly wonderful job at portraying all aspects of the country, from cuisine to architecture to landscapes.
6. Travel Channel: @travelchannel
Another iconic name in travel, the Travel Channel’s Instagram account lives up to its reputation by truly inspiring people to travel through gorgeous images.
7. National Geographic Travel: @natgeotravel
Because can you really have a list of top travel Instagram accounts without including National Geographic? Not only are their photos beautiful, but the post descriptions provided detailed descriptions and information about the location the image was captured.
8. Royal Caribbean: @royalcaribbean
You don’t have to be a cruise ship aficionado to take one look at Royal Caribbean’s Instagram account and want to start planning your next trip at sea. Royal Caribbean truly excels by showcasing all aspects of what a cruise with them looks like, including the adventures, the food and the stunning locales.
9. Lufthansa Airlines: @lufthansa
Lufthansa is my favorite airline, so I was excited to see that their Instagram account also excels with high-quality travel photos. But what I really love about Lufthansa is that they actually respond to comments on their photos with real, personal messages. Too many businesses forget that social media is all about creating a community. Take the time to show your followers that you care, and your business will reap the benefits.
If you don’t have time to respond to questions and comments, consider hiring a social media manager. The personal touch is a surefire way to increase your followers.

13. New York Times Travel: @nytimestravel
The New York Times has multiple Instagram accounts for the different niches and topics that they cover. Their riveting travel photos actually make me want to head to their website to read more about the stories behind them.
For my world travel adventures and business inspiration, make sure to follow me:

From hidden waterfalls in the jungles of Bali to the best bars in NYC , these adventurous souls should be your go-tos. Be prepared to get major travel envy. These travel Instagram accounts are no joke. Here are our favorite ones in no particular order.
1. Beautiful Destinations
Credit: Beautiful Destinations
Founded by Tom and Jeremy Jauncey, Beautiful Destinations is the award-winning creative agency behind one of the largest travel pages on social media. More than 13.5 million people in over 180 countries tune in to their channels to be inspired. BD boasts 11 million followers on Instagram alone. Their mission is pure – to celebrate the beauty of the world and its amazing places, people, and experiences. Of all the travel Instagram accounts out there, this is our favorite.
The team at BD champions positivity, inclusion, and vibrancy in everything they do. It shows through the work they create. On their feed, you’ll find some of the most jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring locales. We love that they emphasize more than just being a traveler.
When you engage with their content, you are always pushed to grow, challenge yourself, get outside of your own head and your own experiences, and learn from others around the globe. Isn’t that what travel is all about?
2. Earthpix
Credit: Kyrenian
Want more travel Instagram accounts to drool over? Here you go. Serving as a feature page for talented photographers and videographers, Earthpix has amassed an Instagram following of 12.9 million. This account offers endless swoon-worthy locations to start a wanderlust fire in any eager soul. Whether you’re looking for snow-covered mountains, dramatic landscapes, an urban jungle, or a desert daydream, you’ll find it all here – and more.
3. Do You Travel
Credit: Do You Travel
Jack Morris started one of the most iconic travel Instagram accounts. Do You Travel boasts a whopping 2.8 million followers. Just a few years ago, he worked as a carpet cleaner before he sold all his possessions and bought a one-way ticket to Thailand. From there, he began to run promotional pages for businesses. They took off and quickly began accumulating a large following. Jack decided to put that same effort into something he was passionate about. From there, Do You Travel was born. It just happened in the right place at the right time.
Now, he’s got an impressive collection of stamps in his passport book. He’s currently living in Bali with his other half, Lauren Bullen (aka @gypsealust). Their feeds are they very definition of relationship goals.
4. Gypsea Lust
Credit: Gypsea Lust
Have you ever spent your Tuesday envying Lauren Bullen’s life? We’re right there with you. Every other picture she posts on Gypsea Lust , she has a glowing tan and is laying on a remote beach. With a following of over 2.1 million, she is one of the top travel influencers on the market.
Last year, Travel and Leisure reported that she and her partner Jack make well over $100k a year for their travels and paid promotions. Can they adopt us? Lauren didn’t care for her day job either. A self-taught photographer, her account began to pick up steam a few years back when she was approached by a tourism bureau in Queensland, Australia to accompany them on an influencer-led trip.
For those aspiring to travel more and have a passion for photography, she offers this advice. Try to capture authentic photos. Second, a little editing and good gear go a long way. Lauren and Jack use a Canon 5D Mark IV and edit with Adobe Lightroom.
5. Chris Burkard
Credit: Christ Burkard
Chris Burkard is an American self-taught photographer and artist, based in California Central Coast region. Burkard’s work is layered by landscape, lifestyle, surf, outdoor and travel subjects.
Go ahead and treat yourself. Take a look at his lovely Instagram. Burkard is known for images that are punctuated by untamed, powerful landscapes. Through social media, he strives to share his vision of wild places with millions of people and to inspire them to explore for themselves.
His visionary perspective has earned him opportunities to work on global, prominent campaigns with Fortune 500 clients, speak on the TED stage, design product lines, educate, and publish a growing collection of books. Along with his team, Burkard is based out of his production studio and art gallery in the Central Coast of California.
6. Emmett Sparling
Credit: Emmett Sparling
We’re sure you’ve heard of the adventurer and photographer Emmett Sparling . His vibrant photos and videos are nothing short of love at first sight. This crisp and surreal photography tells the story of a young man who’s come a long way in developing his skill set and seen some of the most magical places on earth. If you take a closer look though, you’ll see something else. There’s a lot to this Vancouver creative. Somehow, he’s managed to carve out a distinct image for himself among the millions of travel bloggers.
7. Captain Potter (aka Sam Potter)
Credit: Captain Potter
We absolutely love Sam Potter’s Instagram. His zeal for life, passion for people, and authenticity shine through. He’s certainly made a name for himself among travel bloggers. The mountains, ocean, and world around him have all become an integral part of his personhood.
Sam takes stewardship seriously; he appreciates cultures from all over the world. Growing up roaming around Kauai, he realized an impetus to travel. His love for creating has brought him around the globe.
He says, when you travel, you’re always being introduced to new things, sounds, mountains, the ocean, the people who surround you. And you’re left better for it. It’s not just your home. It’s who you are. A large part of what he wants to change about the travel industry is going just for a trend.
The secrecy of a place is what keeps it magical – respecting the land, protecting traditions. Whenever Sam meets someone new and finds himself in a new place – if it’s quiet and there’s no one around, he does his part to keep it that way. It’s so important to enter with respect and the knowledge that now that you found this place, you have a responsibility to it.
Make sure it never loses its magic. Keep the quiet places quiet. Follow along on his adventure via the Captain’s Log on YouTube and be sure to check out his page on Instagram.
8. Chelsea Kauai
Credit: Chelsea Kauai
Here’s more island wanderlust for you to enjoy courtesy of Chelsea Yamase. In recent years, this Hawaii native has been traveling the world as an athlete, model, and writer. Her account has amassed 577k followers and it’s easy to see why. She lets her passion for life run wild in the hopes that people will chase after their own. She chooses to view the world as precious and connected rather than fierce and unfamiliar.
Across her feed, you’ll find adventures of a lifetime – swimming with sharks, running along narrow canyons and cliffs, bungee jumping. This girl is living life to the fullest and going places (all pun intended). Her self-expression and creativity will not disappoint.
Credit: Zoe Laz
Cute lifestyle blog meets travel inspiration. We first found Zoe’s page through a collaboration with Urban Outfitters. Right now, she’s roaming through Tuscany, Italy with her boyfriend, spreading travel inspo to her loyal following of 318k. Like Zoe, her page is cheerful, fun, and easy going.
Whether she’s standing on the Spanish Steps or exploring the great outdoors in Utah, her authentic photos make you feel like you’re along for the ride. She’s honestly got one of the best travel Instagram accounts.
Credit: Fursty
Of all the travel Instagram accounts out there, Dylan Furst’s is a breath of fresh air. While most travel influencers flock to post pictures from the same few locations (e.g. Bali, Iceland, Thailand, Greece), Dylan pursues beauty in the simple things.
Hailing from Bellingham, WA, this PNW native has made a name for himself. His backyard near the Rainy City has heavily influenced his style as a photographer. Specializing in outdoor, adventure, and travel photography, he’s had the opportunities to experience a variety of landscapes, countries, and cultures through the portal that is his camera. Dylan strives to show unique perspectives and tell meaningful stories through his art.
11. Earthy Andy
Credit: Earthy Andy
Is this a healthy eating account or travel account? It’s both! Earthy Andy is everything #familygoals and #travelgoals. A self-professed Earth admirer, she travels all over Hawaii and the rest of the globe with her husband and two kids. Besides making mouth-watering vegan recipes, she raises awareness about eco-friendly and sustainable living practices. We’re absolutely in love with the beautiful images she creates and the life she lives.
12. Rory Court
Credit: Rory Court
We’re surprised Rory Court’s IG hasn’t blown up by now. While he’s got a steady following of 11.6k and counting, the quality of images he produces are on the level BD shares. Keep your eyes on this Canadian photog + traveler.
13. Joonas Linkola
Credit: Joonas Linkola
Are you’re more of a winter wonderland kinda person? Go follow Joonas Linkola . He’s got one of the best travel Instagram accounts. Just browse through his feed for a good ten seconds and you’ll be hooked. From epic aerial shots over tall pines and surging rivers to serene campsite tents and the crackling of a warm fire, his feed makes you crave an adventure in the great outdoors. If you find yourself craving a cozy cabin escape in the heat of June, you’ll know who to blame.
14. Ockey Dockey
Credit: Ockey Dockey
Lauren Riboldi and her Insta are a pocketful of sunshine. It’s hard not to smile when you look at her photos. Every one makes you feel like you’re let in on a special moment. We love the authenticity behind them. Her feed shouts lucky in love; scroll through for adorable couples pics with her and her husband around the Hawaiian islands.
Needless to say, the scenery is perfect too. Hawaii certainly isn’t a bad backdrop. Waterfalls, jungle roaming, and shimmering underwater bokeh effects with dolphins fill the feed. As if that wasn’t enough, her captions are refreshingly honest and meaningful. While Instagram is notoriously a place to show only the highlights of your life, she lets you in on her struggles and raw journey. That alone is worth a follow.

Lauren focuses on solo female travel – she has been EVERYWHERE and has the pics to prove it!

Favourite travel memory: I was recently solo travelling in Peru, and took a day trip from Cusco to Rainbow Mountain. I was so nervous for the high altitude hike, finishing off at an elevation of just over 17,000 feet, but I managed to make it on foot instead of taking the horses they offer along the way. It was challenging, rewarding, and the views of Rainbow Mountain itself were absolutely stunning.
Sshh!... This is a secret

Favourite travel memory: Realising that overcoming your own fears is the best moment ever. Jumping in the sea to swim with a whale shark, jumping out of a plane or hiking in the mountains for three days – priceless.
Favourite destination: Since I did an exchange year, which made the country part of me, it will always be New Zealand. Open minded, friendly people, breath-taking countryside and countless memories.
3. jetsetchristina
Luxury travel blogger Christina has been to 55 countries. Think tanned skin, beaches, and crystal clear water – you’ll want to book a trip to paradise ASAP.

Favourite travel memory: If I could combine a few of my favourite travel memories into one perfect day, it would be waking up to a seaside breakfast on the cliffs of Bali, snorkelling in Brazil, walking with lions in Mauritius, hiking Cinque Terre in Italy, soaking up the sun in Saint Tropez, sipping on painkillers at Soggy Dollar bar in the BVI, having dinner in the Eiffel Tower, and dancing all night in the Gili Islands.
Favourite destination: Cape Town and Italy. Cape Town, South Africa blew me away. It has everything. A vibrant African, British and Dutch influenced culture, majestic landscapes at the edge of the Atlantic and Indian oceans, wildlife like no other place in the world, unbelievable beaches (some with penguins roaming around), and an incredible wine country. Italy is pure magic. It’s no question why it’s the world’s most popular tourist destination. Italy is so perfect that it doesn’t even feel real. Walking in Venice feels like you’re walking in a dream. Boating in Lake Como feels like you’ve swapped lives with George Clooney. Jumping off the rocks of the Amalfi Coast feels like you’re diving head first into the best day of your life. Listening to accordions play “that’s amore” feels like you’re starring in an old Hollywood romance. Walking the streets of the Vatican feels like you’re living in a Renaissance painting. And drinking wine in Tuscany feels a little like falling in love.
4. heartmybackpack
Silvia chose Norway as her country after travelling the world and focuses on solo female travel, with beautifully themed feed from snowy mountains to colourful cities to beaches.
Followers: 52.3k
Favourite travel memory: I loved hitchhiking along the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan. The landscape is stunning, and the people there were just so kind. One of the days my friends and I caught a ride with a truck driver who drove us for about 10 hours, stopping in each village we drove through to pick up local delicacies like pears and bags of boiled meat for us to try.
Favourite destination: It’s so hard to choose! I’ve fallen in love with most every country I’ve travelled through, but I guess Norway will always hold the top spot in my heart, as this is the place I’ve chosen to call my home. But I also really love Central Asia, the Caucasus, Iran, and Siberia.
5. saltyluxe
Sarah focuses on adventure and solo female travel – think soft filters, palm trees, and oodles of wanderlust.
Followers: 37.6k
Favourite travel memory: Cruising the Californian coast in our vintage Kombi Van. We were on the road for 6 weeks, met the most amazing people & experienced scenery that blew us away like Joshua tree National Park, Big Sur, Yosemite & the surf coast of San Diego! We still laugh about our time spent in our trusty van, sleeping out the front of peoples mansions in Malibu, mechanical breakdowns in the desert & no showers for a week. This to me is real travel, rich in memories & good vibes to cherish forever!
Favourite destination: Belize (no doubt in my mind the best place I’ve ever been!) I could talk about this endlessly!
6. thisbatteredsuitcase
Canadian Brenna has been to 93 countries – she focuses on solo female travel with bright bold colours and an endless diversity of locations – you’ll never get bored scrolling through her feed.
Followers: 15.3k
Favourite travel memory: I’ve been very fortunate to have made some incredible memories over 11 years of travelling, but one of my favourites is also one of my most recent. Although I travel solo most of the time, I recently travelled around East Africa with my mother for six weeks. Visiting that part of the world had been my number one travel dream since I was a little girl, and we were lucky enough to see lions, cheetahs, rhinos, giraffes, leopards, and more. I’ll never forget how to felt to be surrounded by a hundred elephants as they grazed in Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park, especially with my mum by my side. It was one of the most special moments of my life so far.
Favourite destination : Picking one favourite destination is always going to be a difficult task, but the fact that I keep wanting to go back to Italy must mean something. I’ve been about a dozen times now and I never seem to run out of places I want to go, things I want to do, and food I want to eat! I love how geographically diverse the country is – from mountains to cities to the sea – as well as how deep-rooted the history and culture are. Not only that, I’ve always had an amazing time with the people I meet while there. And really, any country where it’s acceptable (or maybe expected) for me to eat pasta and drink wine all day is always going to come out on top.
7. earthexpedition
Owen is an adventure and nature junkie – his account is rife with mountains and hiking and will make you want to get out into the wild.

Favourite destination: Sailing the Cayes of Belize, catching fresh lobster, and camping on a tiny private island.
8. wearekingingit
Craig & Aimee are an adorable vlogger couple who play with unusual perspectives and shots…Insta heaven!

Favourite travel memory: Swimming with whale sharks on the Philippines – it was breath taking, it was scary and it was the most exciting time of our travels to date.
Favourite destination: Definitely Iceland, you can’t compare it to anywhere on earth, it has waterfalls, geysers, mountains lakes and whales!
9. explorista
Milou says she is “scared of everything but doesn’t let it stop her”. She showcases gorgeous city shots that make travel seem a possibility closer to home.
Followers: 5.9k
Favourite travel memory: One of my favourite travel memories was when I surprised my parents by popping up in California. They had been in the US on a road trip for two weeks, and were going to California to meet family who lives there. What they didn’t know is that I booked a flight, got on a train, traveled for over 24 hours, and was waiting behind the wall in the kitchen to surprise them when they showed up. I still smile when I think about the look on my dads face when I tapped on his shoulder and he turned around.
Favourite destination: London! I was lucky enough to live there for seven months and I just keep going back. I’ll take any excuse! It’s the place in the world where I feel most at home. London has anything you could ever want, whether you are in the mood for a party, some great food or a visit to some world class museums… it’s all there. And the vibe is just so vibrant and accepting that it was very easy for me to blend right in. I’m really hoping I’ll have another stint there in the future.
10. the_globbers
Gay travel couple Luca and Ale’s feed is filled with gorgeous filters in some of the world’s most stunning places, all shot with a fantastic camera.
Followers: 30.1k
Favourite travel memory: Climbing the Poem Mountain to see Halong Bay from the top. One of the most exciting adventures we took during our 7 month journey around SEA.
Favourite destination: Bali. Something about this destination gives us a feeling of great peace, freedom and serenity that is very hard to find here in Western countries. That’s why we choose Bali as our home now.
11. florabaker
British writer and traveller Flora explores solo female and off-the-beaten track travel, including visiting Syria.
Followers: 11.4k
Favourite travel memory: It’s hard to pinpoint, as it changes with each destination! But a recent fave was when I was walking through Longyearbyen (in Svalbard, Arctic Norway) last summer. It was past midnight but the sun was still shining bright: I was walking down the centre of the empty main road, keeping a vague eye out for rogue polar bears, and suddenly couldn’t believe how lucky I was to be in such an inaccessible and surreal place. That feeling of happiness and ‘right’ness is definitely a memory to hold onto.
Favourite destination: Has to be Colombia. It’s such a beautiful and diverse country, but the best part for me is how generous and friendly the people are – after my first visit I made such immediate close friendships with Colombians that I ended up returning at least three times over the course of the next year!
Koby is a photographer, so as expected, her shots are AMAZING. We won’t lie, the envy is strong on this one!
Followers: 53.7k
Favourite travel memory: Looking forward to free bowls of guacamole, salsa & corn chips every time you sit down to eat in Mexico! Is it just me or is food one of the best parts of travelling?!
Favourite destination: Cuba was a highlight, such a challenge & cultural experience especially having had no Spanish lessons! Having a lot of the tourist attractions and scenes all to yourself, with such a beautiful variety of countryside, beach & city! Plus who doesn’t love a pink convertible?!
13. pausethemoment
Ryan showcases beautiful bright beach pics, perfect for a rainy afternoon when you wish you were somewhere balmy.
Followers: 27k
Favourite travel memory: Each year I join a Greek Island voyage with a company called Sun Fun You and we cruise around the lesser known Greek Islands in the east on a custom built Turkish gulet. It has been the highlight of my year since 2015.
Favourite destination: Mexico (I call it my home base and I simply can’t get enough of it).
14. offthepath
We are IN LOVE – adventure traveller Sebastian showcases STUNNING nature and cities with his girlfriend that makes for addictive scrolling.
Followers: 32.5k
Favourite travel memory : 2 day canoeing trip down Athabasca River in Alberta and camping on a deserted island while hearing bears and wolves in the distance. Such a crazy adventure!
Favourite destination: South Africa – so much to see, affordable and beautiful.
15. tourist2townie
Gareth likes to travel slowly and deeply to understand the people & cultures of a country – it definitely reflects in his stunning snaps.
Followers: 26.5k
Favourite travel memory: I lived in Brazil for a year around 2014, and my primary goal was to somehow, some way find a job at the World Cup. Long story short, I managed to join an Australian tour company, shooting daily videos over the course of 21 days during the tournament and was able to attend five World Cup matches. It was a dream come true.
Favourite destination: While it is fresh in my mind, my most recent “Travel Deeper” adventure in Japan was as eye-opening as it was life-changing. Culture, food, intrigue – Japan is an explorer’s paradise.
16. everysteph
Italian Stefania likes green, responsible and fashionable travel and finds beauty in every place, be it a tiny street or a coffee shop.
Followers: 21.2k
Favourite travel memory: Aaah so hard to choose! My recent favourite one is when I took a mountain flight in Nepal and flew over Mt. Everest. I felt goosebumps and I felt so small in front of the magnificence of the nature.
Favourite destination: Thailand – people are so friendly, the non-touristy islands still idyllic, and I feel just at home there!
17. adventuresofsophh
Sophie has one of the fewest followings in our list but is one of our faves. You can’t help but ‘like’ all her shots – every pic is simply gorgeous and makes you think ‘I HAVE to be there’.
Followers: 2.2k
Favourite travel memory: Would take me back to the first solo trip I did to Thailand back in 2014 when I was 19. I had just arrived in Bangkok after a long flight full of turbulence and was planning on catching a train straight to Chiang Mai. After getting to the Bangkok train station at 11pm, I was told that there were no tickets left for the next train, leaving me stuck by myself, completely clueless in the middle of the night in a foreign place. I made the decision to catch a taxi into Bangkok city, where I spent the next hour walking around the streets with my backpack trying to find a spare bed. At 1am, I found a hostel, where I spent that night in complete awe of what had just happened. Although it was one of the scariest memories I’ve had travelling, it was the moment that I realised just how capable I am of achieving things on my own, and that feeling is something that cannot be beaten.
Favourite destination: Slovenia captured all of my senses and definitely filled a gap in my heart. From the exquisite scenery to the friendly faces, there wasn’t a time spent in Slovenia where I was looking for more or was unsatisfied with my decisions. I also loved that there was a lack of tourists, especially when compared to the surrounding Mediterranean countries.
18. oneworldjustgo

Favourite travel memory: Being invited by Sri Lankan fishermen (we were on a beach walk & it was very spontaneous) to help them pull a giant fish net from the ocean. It’s a tremendously hard job that lasts about an hour and takes a village (literally!). Learning that they do it 3 times a day was very humbling.
Favourite destination: Hands down Japan – I love everything about it, from the people and food to the culture, rural areas and big cities.
20. christianlongnecker
Christian’s shots are seriously epic – adventurous, breathtaking and picturesque all at once.
Followers: 15.9k
Favourite travel memory: Went on a 18 day road trip going from NY to La. Best memory of that trip was the unreal and surreal feeling bombing this hill at monument valley on my Penny skateboard during one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. It was me and three other people and we luckily had the entire place to ourselves.
Favourite destination: All time top favourite is Kauai Hawaii – one of the prettiest landscapes I’ve ever seen, in my opinion better than Bali, Aus, Europe, and North America. Absolutely stunning on the NaPali Coast!
21. alongdustyroads
Brits Andrew and Emily are a travel couple whose pics explore the culture of each country and new ways of seeing things, with great diversity to satisfy every traveller.

Favourite travel memory: We travelled Latin America for two years and, from that trip alone, we have travel memories to last a lifetime! The fun part is trying to create a new favourite memory on all the adventures which are yet to happen.
Favourite destination: Mexico vs. Colombia. If food is to be the tie-breaker, then Mexico wins.
22. wewanderasia
Hugo & Noemie, from Canada and the Netherlands, showcase perfect pics that reflect the true beauty in this world, using different angles and objects to really tell a story.
Favourite travel memory: We haven’t got one certain favourite travel memory as we’ve seen so many amazing things, for us the feeling of being together on a scooter somewhere on the edge of the world is truly our favourite memory – again and again – as it makes us feel more free than anything else in this world
Favourite travel destination: Sri Lanka

Favourite travel memory: In August 2015, I quit a career in marketing, sold everything I owned, and left Texas on a one way flight to Spain. One month later, I was volunteering at a vineyard in Tuscany, staying in a villa, eating real Italian food and drinking Italian wine from the vineyard. The experience of working with my hands and stepping into a new role, if only for 2 weeks was an incredible and life changing experience.
Favourite destination: Picking a favourite destination is impossible, but I loved the 7 months I spent in New Zealand bungy jumping, helihiking, swimming with dolphins and enjoying the gorgeous scenery!

Laura’s favourite countries are Sweden and Norway for their landscapes, mountains and cosy evenings. Claire’s favourite countries are Spain and Italy for their bustling cities, nightlight and balmy evenings.
28. globetrottergirls
Dani’s fascinating, gritty shots aren’t all picture postcard perfect, but that’s what makes them so good – she gives a real insight into the culture of each place she visits.

My favourite travel memory: My favourite travel memory? It’s hard to pick only one after 7.5 years of full-time travel but one trip that stands out is my trip to Cuba earlier this year. The country is fascinating, some of the towns feel like they’re stuck in a time warp, and while it was initially frustrating not to have internet access because of how limited it is by the government, in the end I embraced the involuntary digital detox, because it allowed me to be more present during the trip, to take it all in, instead of wasting time on Facebook or trying to get the perfect Instagram shot. What I loved about Cuba was how friendly the people were, how colourful the towns were, how life takes place in the streets instead of behind closed doors and windows, and the simplicity of life there. The beaches were divine and the scenery was spectacular – I highly recommend visiting Cuba.
Favourite destination: I always say that I have several favourite destinations – which include Italy, Guatemala and Cambodia – but the one country I keep going back to is Mexico, so I guess that’s my No 1 destination! I love the pristine beaches on the Caribbean coast, the Spanish-colonial towns, the diverse landscapes which range from desert in the north to jungles in the south, with plenty of mountains and volcanoes in between, I love the people and the food, of course! I don’t think I’ll ever tire of visiting Mexico and finding new gems there. As for cities, my absolute favourite city in the world is New York City.

Traveling is a huge niche with so many sub-niches you can focus on. The different types of travel niches are adventure travel, luxury travel, health and wellness travel, gastro tourism, themed cruises, tropical/island travel, hiking, winter destinations, and so on. Picking one (or if you can blend a couple of other sub-niches through your content), can help you establish authority over the subject.
An example of a travel Instagrammer in the adventure sub-niche would be posting content related to exploring mostly wild, outdoor, and exotic locations that requires a bit of adrenaline. The images and videos in adventure travel give a high focus on non-touristy places, destinations that are still unknown to the masses. Trolltunga, the now popular site in Norway, reported an increase in their tourism from 500 to 40,000 between 2009 and 2014. The spike in tourism credits the rise of Instagram between this period. Another example of a sub-niche in the travel niche is luxury travel. To be regarded as a go-to influencer in this sub-niche, your travel Instagram would have to be filled with luxury travel content. Examples would be pictures or videos flying in first class, or staying in luxury hotels, or traveling in style that people aspire to achieve someday.
Build Your Instagram Brand
Digital branding is key to helping your travel Instagram page stand out from the many other successful travel influencers. Many creative travel influencers have spectacular content through their stunning travel photography and inspirational videos. With the number of travel influencers out there today, you need something more than great content to stand out. With that said, digital branding gives you that extra edge to compete with other travel Instagrammers vying for travel campaigns via Instagram sponsorship . Building a digital brand is part of a travel influencer becoming an aspiration and inspiration.
Perhaps loyalty is the most significant advantage and benefit of creating an aspiring and inspiring digital brand. When you have a loyal following, they are more likely to engage and interact with your content, which is critical if you want to grow the followers of your travel Instagram page. A way to create an inspiring and aspiring brand for your travel Instagram page is to post visually striking images or videos consistently. If your content doesn’t capture your followers’ attention, they will just scroll past your post and be buried among the rest. Another strategy to create an Instagram brand is through your voice. Do your captions tell a meaningful story that engages your audience to think, and inspire them to join the conversation? We spend quite a lot of time ensuring that our captions on each of our posts reflect our brand and represent our voice.
Take Great Photos
Instagram is a visual platform, so it should not be a surprise that taking great photos is a massive part of becoming a travel influencer. But don’t think you need to be a professional photographer to create visually striking imagery to inspire your followers about your travels. It’s about knowing the simple tips and tricks of creating a beautiful image and finding your style of photography. Once again, being a travel influencer doesn’t require you to invest money to study photography. However, it does require you to study the basic rules of photography and find a style that works for you. For example, every travel influencer I know is familiar with the rule of thirds, where the basic idea is NOT to place your subject and focus on the center of the image.
Another photography basics are lighting, where travel influencers mostly shoot during a specific time of day (mostly in the early morning) to have the softest lighting possible. Apart from learning the basics of photography , many travel influencers use Presets to improve their pictures. These days, it’s pretty rare for a travel influencer not to have a preset of their own that they sell so that you can easily copy their feed. If you prefer not to spend money on presets, you can still improve your pictures by knowing some tips and tricks on how to improve Instagram filters . Lastly, taking exceptional photos also doesn’t mean having the fanciest and most expensive equipment. For us, we do use a professional camera that helps us create some of our best content. However, there are also moments where a picture looks just as great as using an iPhone.
Take Great Videos
Mastering Videos is another medium that travel Instagrammers need to master. We especially like to take videos on our travels and make it a point to post on our feed. Videos allow us to capture our experience on our travels better than images can. Editing is one of the necessary skills in creating a powerful Instagram travel video. Great editing would quickly tell a story and draw your viewers to keep watching the video. Focus using some of your best shots on the first five to ten seconds of your video to ensure you captivate your audience’s attention. Consider using video editing apps such as Adobe Premiere Pro , or edit videos directly on your phone with apps such as Videorama . Both of these editing apps are user friendly and easy to follow and master.
After you’ve mastered the editing portion, the next step is selecting the right music that goes along well with your travel videos. Some of the equipment to use to build our Instagram travel pages are drones, a professional camera, and an iPhone. We especially love drone shots because it allows us to capture certain angles that would otherwise be impossible. Professional cameras can capture quality videos as well and are high on the ground level. Lastly, iPhones are also excellent quality for capturing videos for stories.
Travel Instagram Stories
Instagram stories are, without a doubt, one of the platform’s popular outlet. Considering that editing photos and videos take time, posting on Instagram stories about your travels allows you to give a preview of what’s to come. For us, we rarely post our content on our feed immediately following our travels. The amount of time it takes to edit a video and photograph just takes too long.
As a result, content creators use Instagram stories to share their content immediately. The posts are typically instantaneous and don’t require editing effort. Instagram stories also allow their followers to get an instant glimpse of their travels, and allow content creators to document everything that is happening during their travels and share them with their followers. It’s fun and a great way to interact with your followers. Instagram stories are such a powerful medium to take your travel Instagram to the next level because it allows you to go off-brand. Regardless of being a travel influencer, posting content not related to travel is entirely acceptable and won’t be seen as ‘weird.’ Posting content not related to your niche allows you to show off a little bit about yourself and other things that your followers can relate to.
Use Hashtags
Travel Instagrammers who get hired for paid travel campaigns, the use of hashtags in almost always part of the deal of the job. It means that for every post we make about the travel campaign, we have to use that specific hashtag related to that campaign. Using hashtags can make a difference in getting your content discovered and ultimately land on the explorer page. The hashtag allows Instagram to identify people who are not following you but may be interested in your topic. In other words, you could be gaining a lot more followers if you use hashtags correctly. So use hashtags effectively, whether on your feed posts or stories, chances are your content will reach a new audience you’ve never had before!
Collaborate with Other Travel Influencers
Part of the job of travel Instagrammers is to network off Instagram. Not many realize that part of the hustle is to meet other travel Instagrammers and collaborate on creating content. They tend to tag each other on stories and on static posts, which creates an opportunity to be introduced to a brand new set of audiences and grow their accounts. For us, the best part of meeting other travel Instagrammers is getting an opportunity to be invited to other travel campaigns. If a travel campaign is looking for 15 other content creators, you can potentially get an invite your new travel Instagrammer friend endorses you to be part of the campaign. Collaborating with other travel influencers also allows you to learn from each other. There are so many creative strategies and knowledge that influencers can share with each other – from little tricks on taking pictures, or how to edit videos, or possibly learning the business side of having a travel Instagram page – networking with other influencers is a crucial part of their growth in the business.
Starting a Travel Instagram Hub Account
Many might be surprised to know that you can still start a travel Instagram account even if you don’t have a lot of personal travel content to post. You might have just said ‘How?!’ Many Instagram travel pages are created to repost other travel content creators. It’s a curated travel page where they repost other travel pictures or videos while giving credit to the original poster. It’s a great strategy to build your travel content and followers in the beginning if you don’t have a lot of travel-related content to post yet. Some of the Instagram accounts that are travel hub accounts that you should check out our @theglobewanderer , @welivetoexplore , @beautifuldestinations , and @earthpix to name a few. The travel hub accounts mentioned amassed followers in the millions, and followed by some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, both in the US and abroad.
Final Word To Start Your Travel Instagram
There you have it! Traveling while getting paid is possible with Instagram. It’s a dream that many wanderlusters aspire to have given the freedom to pursue your passion for traveling while getting paid to do it. It’s totally doable, but it seriously takes a lot of hustle, consistency, and dedication to achieve the lifestyle of traveling the world while getting paid. It’s also important to add that a certain level of professionalism is required to achieve success in the business. Besides creating content, travel influencers have to become business savvy and know how to pitch and negotiate when it comes to paid Instagram sponsorships – it’s all part of the game!

How To Find The Perfect Travel Theme For Your Instagram
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question – the perfect theme for your travel page on Instagram will vary depending on what type of content you plan to share, who your target audience is, and what aesthetic you’re going for.
However, there are a few general tips that can help you narrow down your options and find a theme that works for you.
Now let’s get started… There’s a lot to unpack…
At A Glance
Define Your Goals And Target Audience
Clean and minimalist:, vibrant and colorful:, whimsical and playful:, intense and focused:, use filters and edits to enhance photos, follow others who inspire you the most, request feedback from your followers, create something unique to you.
Before you start looking for themes, it’s essential to have a clear idea of what you want your page to achieve and who you want to reach with your content. Take some time to brainstorm what kind of images and information you want to share and who you think would be most interested in following your page.
Being a travel influencer is a great way to work on your own time , but things need to be planned out to be reliable. It’s a good idea to set up a content schedule for yourself so that you have a plan for what you’ll be posting and when. This doesn’t have to be overly complicated – a simple Google Doc or Excel spreadsheet will do the trick.
Once you have a rough idea of your page’s appearance, you can start searching for themes that fit your vision. You may find that your idea of the perfect theme changes as you get a better sense of what content you want to share.
Once that vision has come together, you’ll want to look into targeting your page. You can do this by using hashtags, geotagging, and other location-based targeting features on Instagram. This will help you ensure that your content is seen by people who are likely to be interested. Instagram is a huge marketing tool , so make sure you take advantage of its benefits by creating a unique style!
Choose A Theme That Reflects Your Travel Style
Once you know what kind of content you want to share and who you want to reach with your page, you can start thinking about the overall aesthetic of your page.
Do you want your page to have a clean and minimalist look, or are you looking for something more colourful and vibrant?
Some of the most popular travel Instagram pages have a specific style or theme that they stick to, so it’s worth taking some time to browse through different accounts to see what appeals to you.
@tourdelust
If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few popular travel Instagram themes to get you inspired:
If you want your page to have a clean and polished look, consider sticking to a white or light-coloured theme. This will help your images stand out and make your page look more professional. This sort of theme is great if you want to connect with a more general audience or if you plan on sharing a mix of images and text-based content.
If you’re looking to add a bit of personality to your page, go for a theme with brighter colours and patterns. This is a great way to make your page stand out from the crowd and show off your unique style. Be careful not to go overboard – too much colour can be overwhelming for your followers.
If you want your photos to tell a story and transport your followers to another world, consider a more whimsical and playful theme. Think dreamy landscapes, pastel colours, and magical moments.
If you want your followers to really feel the emotion in your photos, then go for a darker, more intense theme. This can be a great way to add drama to your images and make them stand out.
Once you’ve decided on the overall aesthetic of your page, you can start looking for specific themes that fit your style. There are many great resources for finding Instagram themes, but some of our favourites include Creative Market, Etsy, and SpoonGraphics.
Once you’ve found a theme that you like, it’s time to start thinking about how you can make your photos look even better.
One of the best ways to do this is by using filters and edits to enhance the colours, contrast, and overall look of your images. There are tons of excellent photo editing apps, but our personal favourite is VSCO . VSCO has a wide range of filters and editing tools to help you achieve the perfect look for your page.
If you’re not sure which filter to use, start experimenting with different options until you find one you like. To get the perfect look for your page, try playing around with the other settings once you’ve found a filter that you like (such as exposure, contrast, and saturation).
And don’t forget to add your own personal touch to each photo! A little bit of editing can go a long way, but it’s also essential to make sure that your photos still look like they were taken by you.
One of the best ways to find new themes and ideas for your page is to follow other travel Instagrammers who inspire you. Take some time to browse through different pages and see what kind of content they’re sharing and how they’re presenting it.
As you’re browsing, make a note of any pages that stand out to you and that you think you could learn from. Then, take some time to study their pages and see what makes them so successful.
Once you’ve found a few pages that you like, start following them and pay attention to the photos they’re sharing, their hashtags, and the captions they’re writing. These are all great things to learn from and can help you improve your own page.
Although many of your followers may be travellers, some may also be Instagram experts! So, don’t be afraid to ask your followers for feedback on your page. Some users (like yourself) are pretty savvy with the app and may have some great suggestions on how you can improve your page.
You can do this by posting a photo and asking people to share their thoughts or sending out a survey through Instagram Stories. Either way, you’ll get some great insights that you can use to improve your page.
One of the most effective ways to get feedback is by holding a contest or giveaway on your page. Ask your followers to leave a comment with their best tip for improving your page, and then choose a winner at random. This is a great way to get some helpful feedback and take on board any other recommendations your followers may have.
You may find that they have some great Instagram services you can buy or even some past experiences to help with your current challenges.
Once you’ve taken all of the above advice, it’s time to start thinking about what makes you unique. What can you do to make your travel Instagram page stand out from all the rest?
You can break down your content plan and see if you can find any gaps that other pages aren’t filling. For example, are there any specific niche markets or topics that you could be covering that no one else is?
Alternatively, think about how you can put your own spin on the content you are sharing. Can you share your photos differently or add your own personal commentary to them? Maybe you could have a day of the week where you share photos that are black-and-white only or start using a specific hashtag for your page.
The possibilities are endless, so just take some time to brainstorm and create something that will make your page unique.
Now that you know a few different ways to find the perfect theme for your travel page on Instagram, it’s time to get started!
The best way to get started is by experimenting with different filters and editing tools until you find a look you like. Don’t forget to add your own personal touch to each photo, and make sure to follow other inspiring travel pages for more great ideas. And finally, don’t forget to ask your followers for their feedback and create something true to your goals!

Take Your Best Ever Photos on Vacation: The Essential Gear You Need
From cameras and filters to bags and tripods, this is the gear you should take for pro-standard travel photos.
- Shortlisted for British Photography Awards 2022, Commended in Landscape Photographer of the Year 2022
Vacations can provide amazing opportunities for gorgeous travel photos, whether you're jumping on a jet to a tropical island, hiking into the mountains or spending a long weekend away in your local countryside. And with powerful cameras stuffed into phones like the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Galaxy S24 Ultra , along with a plethora of amazing mirrorless cameras from the likes of Canon, Sony and Fujifilm, getting great images doesn't mean hauling a huge kit bag with you.
I've been a professional photographer for over a decade and have traveled the world taking photos. Here, I'll take you through the essential gear you need to bring with you on your trip. I'll also recommend some extras to consider if you want to return home with creative pieces of art, rather than just holiday snaps.

Choose the right camera
While you're unlikely going to buy an entirely new camera system just for an upcoming trip, if you're in the market already for a new camera then an imminent vacation is a great excuse to invest. While traveling with a camera used to mean hauling a bulky DSLR in your backpack everywhere you go, modern mirrorless cameras are typically much smaller and lighter, making them superb for traveling. I took just my Canon R5 and a small, lightweight 50mm f1.8 lens on a three-week trip to Sicily and loved the shots I got from this compact setup.
The R5 doesn't come cheap, nor is it the smallest camera around, but it offers stunning image quality from its full-frame sensor, amazing video skills and has pro features like in-body image stabilization. Want something a bit smaller? Look towards a micro four thirds camera like the Fujifilm X-S10 or the fixed-lens X100VI. Check out my guide to the best cameras if you want inspiration on which model to go for.
Keeping your lens choices to a minimum will help reduce the weight. A standard zoom like a 24-70mm gives a great range for capturing wide, sweeping vistas, while providing enough zoom to get closer up on your subjects. I'd also recommend packing a small prime lens (like the 50mm f1.8) as these tend to be lightweight and compact enough to always have in your bag or slung around your shoulder for whenever inspiration strikes.

But maybe you don't need a camera at all -- today's top phones can take amazing images and can shoot in raw format allowing for the same sort of editing you'd typically do with images from regular cameras. The iPhone 15 Pro Max takes gorgeous images -- especially using Apple's ProRaw format -- and its multiple rear lenses give creative shooting options for whatever scene you find yourself in front of.
Canon's EOS RP offers full-frame quality but in a very compact size, particularly when paired with the tiny 50mm f1.8 lens.
The best travel tripod
A tripod certainly isn't essential for all travel photography, but when the light fades and you need to slow the shutter speed to several seconds to get a good exposure, you'll need one to secure your camera. You'll definitely need a tripod if you want to nail those nighttime shots overlooking a gorgeous bay, capture the stars above those snowcapped mountains, or pull off those artful long exposures of waterfalls.
By using a sturdy tripod, I was able to slow the shutter speed right down to capture the motion of the water and clouds over the Forth Bridge.
Again, size matters and you should look for a compact, travel tripod that can easily fit in your backpack -- or attach to the outside of it. Modern materials like carbon fiber will keep the weight down, but they also tend to be more expensive, so you'll need to decide how much you're willing to shell out.
As its name suggests, the Peak Design travel tripod is a great tripod for traveling, thanks to its small size when folded down and its light weight. I've done all-day hikes with this strapped to my back and barely noticed its presence -- something I can't say for most tripods. Make sure to check out my full roundup of the best tripods you can buy . Or, if weight is really an issue, you can even try using your own DIY tripod .
A proper adventure backpack
A dedicated photo bag should be high on your list. After all, you don't want your fancy new gear getting knocked around and breaking, do you? A good bag will have compartments to keep your camera safe and secure, but will also let you access it quickly. It's important, too, to find one that also has plenty of space to keep other items you'll need while out and about.
If you're going to be out with it all day, I recommend a backpack with two shoulder straps, rather than a single-strap messenger bag. It'll spread that weight over both your shoulders and keep you comfortable longer. Look for things like side-access zips, so you can quickly get your camera out when inspiration strikes; plenty of additional pockets for batteries and snacks; weather-resistant materials; and mounting points to help carry your tripod.
I've done a lot of the hard work for you in rounding up my top photography backpacks . There are options for all kinds of photography, from short city breaks to multiday hikes with lots of gear. Have a read through that list, and make sure that what you're taking is suitable for where you're going.
Always keeping your camera handy means you're ever ready to shoot when you see a good opportunity.
The important extras
The list above is really the essential stuff you'll need to take with you. How much more you bring will depend on how seriously you take your photography and the sort of images you hope to take. Those of you going on wildlife safaris, for example, will benefit from packing a big telephoto zoom lens. Always consider having multiple spare batteries and a charger, as even the best cameras will tend to give you only a day of photos. There's nothing worse than getting to a beautiful afternoon destination only to find you exhausted your power in the morning. Keeping a spare in your bag will let you swap it out and keep on shooting into the evening.

The same goes for storage. It's easy to take hundreds of raw images a day in a beautiful location and all those shots can quickly fill up your card. Thankfully, SD cards are pretty cheap these days, so it's worth buying a few 64GB or 128GB cards to keep with you.
Then there's the wide array of photographic filters that may help you get certain shots. A circular polarizer can be used to help make blue skies more vivid, or reduce the reflection on water, while a neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to use long exposures to blur the motion of water, cars or people.
By using a neutral density filter, I was able to blur the motion of the water until it became a smooth and silky surface.
If you want to shoot video on your travels, you may need additional equipment, such as microphones, higher-capacity, faster storage cards and perhaps even video tripods or gimbals for smoother, professional-looking footage. Check out my guide to the best accessories for video production for more info.

Find the best gifts for men by category:
For the frequent flier, for his closet, for the outdoors enthusiast, for the gadget geek, for the self-care newbie, for the foodie, for the homebody.
At Condé Nast Traveler , we spend a lot of time debating, researching, testing, and re-testing the best stuff when it comes to travel accessories , luggage, and more. If you’re looking for the best suitcase to buy your guy this season, look here . But if you’re looking for something a little different, or perhaps a little unusual that will absolutely rock his travel routine for years to come, check out some of the gift ideas below. Dr. Dennis Gross’ peel pads are a cult favorite among skincare enthusiasts, and an effortless way to look refreshed and dewy after a red-eye. Small touches like a beautiful passport case or a capacious leather weekender are luxurious upgrades he’ll cherish forever. And in case of emergencies, a good ol' fashioned flask will more than do the trick.
Clothes are a tough gift. Everybody is different, every body is different, and a lot of guys are just downright picky when it comes to what they get dressed in everyday. That being said, there are a few tricks of the trade to consider here—when gifting clothes, don’t go too big, too outré, or too outlandish. The secret is to select timeless, quintessential pieces that travel well, age well, and can be styled into any wardrobe. That’s how you’ll end up giving a gift that can find a home in literally any guy’s closet (or suitcase). Who could say no to a versatile, eco-friendly jean, or a quarter-zip sweater knit from recycled oyster shells? A quilted Barbour jacket looks as good in the West Village as it does in West Yorkshire. And a classic pair of folding Persol sunglasses works as well for beach vacations as they do for ski trips .
Lovers of the great outdoors are a funny bunch to shop for. They typically have all of their most treasured gear ready to go in their quiver already, so this is a demographic for whom you need to be on your A-game. Gifts for outdoorsy types need to be the newest of the new with smart details, category-leading engineering, and unassailable durability. Think a lightweight Norwegian cooler that keeps drinks cool without any ice (that’s right—no ice), or a rechargeable glow light that doubles as a mosquito repellent. Outdoorsy folks will say that they can never have too many puffy layer-type things (so go ahead and consider a puffer blanket, or the iconic Arc’teryx Atom Insulated Hoody), and if all else fails you can get them a beautiful Stanley bottle to keep their favorite beverages warm by the fire.
Here’s the thing about men: There’s a part of us that never really grows up, and will always appreciate having a new toy to play with. This category is for he who will appreciate a wild card gift and savor the element of surprise. A perfect pair of travel-sized binoculars made from the best optical-grade crystal in the world? Jackpot! A wearable tech bracelet to quantify how well (or not well) we’re pumping at the gym? Bingo! A bird feeder with a motion-sensing camera so you can get live updates on which winged friends are snacking in your backyard? Why not?
We hate to stereotype the genders—but a lot of self-care products out there are marketed more heavily toward women, leaving the average guy in the lurch. He may not know the benefits of investing in a Dr. Barbara Sturm skincare regimen, or how regular use of a sauna blanket can help improve sleep and recovery patterns, or that Athletic Greens’ enormously popular AG1 powder also comes in convenient travel-sized packs for on-the-go vitamin pick-me-ups. There’s a whole world of self-care products out there! Here we’ve gathered some of the best items to kick-start his journey—sometimes all it takes is a pair of “Wicked Good” shearling slippers from L.L.Bean to get the ball rolling.
Food is one of our favorite ways to experience travel. If you’re not quite ready to gift someone a full evening at Eleven Madison Park , or a trip to sample authentic prosciutto di Parma straight off the bone in Italy , the good news is that the marvels of modern packing and shipping have made some of the world’s tastiest foods closer than ever. A single-origin Spice Passport livens up tired airplane food anywhere, while Flamingo Estate’s Instagram-famous tomato candles and olive oil feel particularly ripe for gifting this year. And if you aren’t able to snag a table for two at Carbone , the restaurant's store bought signature sauce is absolutely fine.
Home gifts can be a tricky gift to navigate—you really need to know a person to make an informed decision. But no matter what the recipient’s sense of style is, there are certain things that show you care and are likely to fit in to most any home. In an age when photos live on our phones and are lost to the cloud forever, for instance, a custom acrylic photo block has a nice physicality to it. Beautiful linen sheets are always in style. A crisp-smelling candle from a small business in Hudson, New York , warms up any space. And when in doubt, the flourish of a fabulous Brazilian jacquard hammock has the right air of whimsy to it to grace any bachelor pad.
