Not a fan of tours. Definitely not a fan of duck tours. I thought it would be a good idea to do a duck tour with some friends since we will be living here for at least 2 years. Our driver was dressed up as a pirate captain for some reason. The tour itself was too long for my liking. It lasted around 2.5 hours. I was dozing off several times, especially when it went into the water. The only cool part was when it actually went into the water (2 seconds of pure bliss and excitement). Besides that, he just talked and we listened. Oh, he let everyone in the tour bus take turns steering the boat while in the water so I thought that was nice of him...unless that's part of the tour... I wasn't expecting much, but I wasn't expecting it to be that long. It was an okay experience I guess.

Duck tours are a really fun way to see Boston. The tour is about 90 minutes long and you get to see Boston from the street and from the river. The tour is rather pricey, but it is unique and a great way to spend a couple hours in Boston. I thoroughly enjoyed the two days we spent exploring Boston. The parts of the city we visited are clean and attractive. A great mix of old and new. There are tons of parks that the residents seem to be very proud of. The Duck tours are a great way to see a lot of the city quickly. The tour helped us decide where we wanted to go on our second day. We took the Duck tour that embarks from the Science Museum. There are also tours that leave from the Aquarium and the Prudential Building. We chose the Science Museum because I was able to figure out how to get there on the Subway. When you arrive at the Science Museum, go into the lobby and follow the duck prints on the ground to the Duck tours desk. Ask for whatever discounts you can get and fork over your dough. We were easily able to get the next tour on the day we came, so no reservation was needed. The tour guides try to be fun and informative. I think they all wear some sort of costume. Our guide was not the funniest person I had ever encountered but he was entertaining by and large. After taking the Duck tour, I understand why it is so crazy to drive in Boston. It's all the Ducks and trollys and buses running around doing tours. Half the traffic and three quarters of the bad drivers would vanish if they suspended these tours. The tour drivers are nuts. Of course what's really nuts is when the bus you have been driving around in takes to the water for a nice little cruise around the river. The Ducks are amphibious craft that were used in WWII and after to land troops on beaches. Of course none of the Ducks in the Boston tour fleet fought in WWII since the U.S. did not transport out its garbage after the war, but the design is pretty much the same. The river tour was really cool for the kids since they got to drive the Duck while we were on the water. My boys thought that was soooooo cool. Both had huge smiles while they sat in the driver's seat. I recommend a Duck tour when visiting Boston. I think a good tip is to take this tour first and then decide where you want to go. You can then take a hop-on, hop-off trolly tour to explore on the ground. You and your kids will love the Ducks.

boston duck tour stroller

I will preface this by saying this was my kids' favorite part of our trip to Boston...and it IS cool to drive into the Charles River...so I give it 3 stars for these reasons otherwise, as a tour, it sucks. The seats are super uncomfortable, my back sweated and stuck to the seat...you are crammed into the duck and it really does not feel "COVID safe" -- I had pre purchased the tickets before actually seeing the DUCK in person and frankly would probably not have if I had seen the seats. I'm short, and I couldn't see much of anything from the seats out the window in the aisle seat... I think I would have over looked all of those things if the tour itself had been good, if the tour guide had been really engaging...he was not. It seems he has a memorized script which he knew really really well...and he frankly did not deviate even a little from that script...he couldn't really answer any questions (I only had 2, they were basic questions...I mean, I just googled after the fact but I paid quite a bit of money, you should be able to answer a basic question). After the DUCK tour we didn't feel like we saw much of the city at all, and so we did a Old Town Trolley tour -- which is very much a very good tour with better seats and views IMO. I think, given the price, I would have done an Old Town Trolley tour and a lunch boat across the Boston harbor instead...Though, the driving into the water is pretty cool...also, note that it IS expensive, even for what it is...overall, if it's the only tour you are doing, skip it...if you've been to Boston before or if you are doing it with other tours, then it's ok.

Boston is famous for the Duck Tours, and although I'm not generally a fan of the guided tour on any sort of vehicle, these are unlike any guided tour I've ever been on. The drivers/tour guides are all characters in themselves and make the experience hugely enjoyable whatever your age. Some of the vehicles are original WWII DUKW amphibians, but as these are getting harder to maintain there are also more recent reproductions in the fleet. The tour is well-organised, entertaining, informative and a fantastic way to be introduced to the city, although the locals must really be fed up with every passing bus-load screaming, "Quack Quack!" at them as they pass. But the kids love it. Our guide 'Jersey Shore' was knowledgeable and good fun, and if you are very lucky (and a Small Person) she might even let you steer the Duck on the river. Seeing the city from the river is what sets these tours apart from others that run in Boston, and it gives you great perspective to get things into context. We followed up the tour with a wander round visiting some of the buildings that we'd seen so we could explore them in more detail. We did this tour in May 2013 on our first visit to Boston and I would happily do it again on future visits. Definitely worth it.

We felt like total tourists, but this was a lot of fun. But part of that is luck. Your experience will be shaped by whether you appreciate your driver's particular brand of humor and who else is on the tour. For us, the guide "Clueless Joe" (variation on the baseball player Shoeless Joe) was great. Nice balance of humor and information and he looked like Steve Carell. Our fellow passengers were a high school band... from Jersey. And they were better than expected. The tour gives a nice overview of Boston and even one of our local friends learned something new. The portion of the tour in the water was longer than expected (in a good way) and overall it felt like a good value for the money. You will also have the option to drive the Duck in the water so be prepared if that interests you. I should mention that we originally planned to take the tour on a Friday afternoon, but they were sold out, so we ended up booking a couple days in advance to make sure we got the time we wanted. You may not be able to walk up and immediately join a tour. I took the Duck Tour several years ago in Seattle and felt bad afterwards. In that case there was a lot of quacking at people on the street and it became really obnoxious. Locals wrote up Yelp reviews about how much they hated the Ducks. On this tour, the only quacking was at other Ducks (a quack off) and it didn't seem nearly as bad. Although one local we met works along the tour route and said she has to hear pretty much the same joke (followed by laughter) at her window multiple times a day. Kind of like her own version of Groundhog Day.

Really great way to start off a vacation in Boston and learn about the city. Im not a huge history buff, but the tour guide made learning history fun and interesting. The tours leave several times an hour throughout the day, with several pickup locations. No need to book in advance, just book on your phone or buy a ticket in person at the location you wish. Side note- the boat has plastic coverings on the window, so even on a chilly day you are able to take the tour. Would recommend a taking a quick tour if you find yourself with some downtime in Boston.

If you are a tourist like me and want to learn a little about the history and lots of sightseeing check out this tour. I tried the 65 min tour leaving from the aquarium and it was the perfect amount of time. We got to see a good amount of Boston, plus the boat portion of the tour is an excellent bonus. Out tour guide/ex-rapper MC history was free laid back and did a good job. He even allowed my girlfriend to drive the duck in the water. Some of the sightseeing includes the famous suspended bridge, TD Garden, USS Constitution, Faneuil hall, etc. This tour definitely makes you appreciate how beautiful and well maintained this city is! I went in doing this with low expectations and I was definitely surprised and enjoyed my time. I am not sure how good the other tours are, but this is safe bet and you will enjoy it! It's great to if you don't want to spend all day on a long tour learning about every little historical fact.

boston duck tour stroller

Simply put - don't bother. Find another source to get interesting , true , factual , history about Boston. The speaker was loud , obnoxious and talked more about Dunkin Donuts and sports rather than authentic facts about this beautiful city. Maybe the trolley tour would be better , but this was not worth the money. Sitting cramped up with a large metal box that pushed out heat for 80 minutes at my feet made this trip awful. The loud speaker and boring narrator who admittedly said she made stuff up as she went along made us regret spending our time on this tour. We learned more walking the actual Freedom Trail. Ugh can't wait to get off ! Save your $ maybe for one of the 100 Dunkin Donuts she called out on the tour. We felt like guinea pigs for her awful , juvenile jokes. No one laughed and several people are actually sleeping !

Was so sad and alarmed to see not only all the staff unmasked but most of the patrons jam packed into the duck boats during a time that the CDC has recommended that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people wear protective face masks to stop the spread of Covid Delta. We were looking forward to taking one of the Boston Duck Tours during our vacation but the potential price to our health is not worth the cost.

Hi Beth- I am sorry to see that you decided not to take a tour with us. The safety of our employees and guests is our #1 priority at Boston Duck Tours. We follow all CDC requirements and recommendations. The current CDC recommendation is for face coverings to be worn when indoors. Since our tours take place outdoors, with plenty of ventilation, we are not requiring face coverings to be worn at this time. We do have face coverings available on our Ducks, free of charge, for anyone who would like one. And we continue to monitor the advice of our state, local, and federal officials, adjusting our protocols as required. I hope you enjoy your vacation in Boston and join us in the future for a tour.

Great way to see Boston by vehicle and by boat. The duck tours are amphibious vehicles that become boats and can go "swimming" in the Charles River. Great to take kids on, they get a kick out of the fact that it goes in the water too. We had a good tour guide, great historical tour of Boston. A little pricey but if you get the go Boston card it is included in some of the upgraded options. They let kids "drive the boat " when the vehicle is in the water. The tour is over an hour, so it's a lot of fun. It will be longer if you go during rush hour because the vehicle is in with regular traffic so keep that in mind when you book your tour. Once 9 o clock am hits, the streets of Boston are full of ducks quacking around. It's pretty funny actually. They've been around for a long time consistently excellent. I definitely recommend the Duck tours.
