Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Cruises from Dubai depart from fall through early summer. The chief port and commercial center of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dubai is a cosmopolitan yet exotic city. Wander the stalls of the traditional bazaars, called souks, where you can bargain for gold jewelry, Persian and Afghani rugs and more. Gold is a particularly good buy here. A guided city tour may take in the Dubai Museum, housed in the Al Fahidi Fort, Dubai's oldest building, and the Juneira Mosque, Dubai's most-photographed structure (particularly beautiful after dark when it is illuminated). Other excursions can include four-wheel-drive adventures in the desert, visits to Bedouin camps, an opportunity to ride a camel, or a cruise around Palm Island, the expansive development project on Dubai's coast.

Address to type in Google Maps or MapQuest?

Dubai Cruise Terminal on Google Maps and Port Rashid on MapQuest.   Google Map gives more detailed and accurate information in my opinion.  It also displays the hotels that are nearby.

How far is Dubai’s airport to Dubai’s cruise port?

It takes about 25 minutes to get from the airport to the port on a good day without much traffic going on.  It is a distance of about 14.9 km.  You can easily take a taxi to Dubai’s cruise port.

How much will it cost to take a taxi to get to Dubai’s cruise port from Dubai’s airport?

Keep in mind that a 20dh surcharge will be added to your fare when you are picked up from Dubai’s airport or Dubai’s cruise port.  It would cost approximately 50dh to 60dh one way.  As of today’s money exchange rate, that would be about 15 to 20 dollars in US currency.  All taxis are metered and prices are not negotiated.

An Introduction About Dubai

Dubai is a member of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. The city is situated on the north shore of the Arabia. As recently as the 1950s Dubai was a small-time trading and fishing town. Now  a soaring conurbation has appeared. All around is taller, bigger, and more spectacular. Glass towers emerge out of the bleak desert sands and dream world islands have been constructed offshore, formed like palm trees or unbelievably a map of the globe. The city is today an extensive free trade area and has become a key business center in the region. Dubai has the nickname the ‘City of Merchants’, thanks to the vast volume of business, or alternatively ‘City of Gold’, because of its vast  Gold shops. Dubai’s most characteristic aspect is its fabulously appointed hotels and its massive shopping malls, guaranteed to wow every holidaymaker. Weather conditions in Dubai are very hot to the extent that all indoor areas are air-conditioned. In wintertime, Dubai is just right, warm and balmy, wonderful for sitting on the beach. From spring temperatures can hit over 100°F and it can be oppressively muggy.

Dubai harbour cruise terminal officially welcomes first guests.

With the arrival of Costa Firenze and AIDAbella, the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal has officially opened its door to cruise passengers. The arrival of the ships coincides with the start of the cruise season and the ships’ homeporting seasons from Dubai.

The opening of the new cruise terminal represents a significant milestone in realizing  Dubai’s goal of becoming the world’s most visited city , underscored with the October launch of the highly popular Expo 2020 in Dubai.

For the occassion Carnival Corporation , the world’s largest cruise company, along with Shamal Holding, welcomed government, business and community representatives to celebrate the new cruise port in one of the most spectacular harbour skylines in the world.

As the region’s first-ever dedicated, twin-terminal cruise port, Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal is capable of accommodating two large cruise ships simultaneously. The world-class facility spans over 120,000 square meters (nearly 1.3 million square feet) and includes two purpose-built terminal buildings that offer passengers and crew a safe, comfortable and seamless embarkation and disembarkation experience. The state-of-the-art terminals are equipped with four bespoke Seaport Passenger Boarding Bridges that can simultaneously support the full turnaround of the largest class of cruise ships in the industry.

The cruise terminals, which are part of Dubai Harbour development, offer a wide array of amenities and services for passengers and crew – from ample seating areas to washrooms, currency exchange outlets, ATMs, cafes, retail outlets, duty-free, dedicated parking, taxi stands and more. The facilities are designed to be fully accessible for all visitors and complimentary Wi-Fi is enabled for guests and crew to stay connected.

The world’s most visited city

Located in the heart of modern Dubai, the new twin-terminal facility is conveniently positioned for international visitors traveling in and out of Dubai. Dubai Harbour’s spectacular backdrop, iconic vista and accessible location are combined with a wide range of living, retail and hospitality choices, as well as comprehensive berthing facilities, to comprise the region’s most unique lifestyle offering – including experiences such as Dubai Harbour Yacht Club, Dubai Harbour Pier Club, Dubai Harbour Marinas, Skydive Dubai and Zero Gravity.

As a gateway to the Arabian Gulf cruise destinations such as Oman and Abu Dhabi, Dubai has been a highly popular destination for the company’s Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises brands, which first began operating from Dubai in 2006. In late November, AIDAbella arrived in Dubai at Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal for the first time, marking the first regular cruise passenger operation for the new terminals and the start of the ship’s winter season. In addition, Costa Firenze ‘s recent arrival marked the start of the ship’s season from Dubai, where it is homeporting for the first time ever.

Costa Firenze’s itinerary, which includes long stops at the ports of Dubai (two days) and Abu Dhabi (a full day, from 9am to midnight), allows guests to enjoy Expo 2020 Dubai to the fullest. Thanks to its collaboration with the Italian Pavilion, of which Costa Cruises is a gold sponsor, the company offers exclusive visits, which are true ‘grand tours’ to discover the Italian excellence showcased at the Expo. The tours include a panoramic visit of Dubai or Abu Dhabi, after which Costa Firenze guests enter Expo without queuing up, with a privileged entrance, to discover this extraordinary exhibition which includes about 200 pavilions. At the end of the visit, participants in the ‘grand tour’ of Costa’s Italian Pavilion are guests of Bvlgari for a unique gastronomic experience.

Together, six brands from Carnival Corporation – AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises, Cunard, P&O Cruises (UK), Princess Cruises and Seabourn – will visit the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal by 2023 and in total the six brands are expected by then to make 90 calls to the new twin-terminal cruise port. Costa Firenze will be homeporting weekly at Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal through March 2022.

Costa Cruises' flagship Toscana calls for the first time at Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal

CruiseMapper logo

Costa Crises ' latest flagship Costa Toscana , which entered service last March, called on December 16th for the first time at the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal , the most modern cruise terminal in the city, inaugurated by Costa Group in December last year.

On the occasion of the first call, an event was held onboard the liner, attended by Italian and local authorities.

Throughout the 2022-2023  winter, Costa Toscana will sail on 7-day Arabian Gulf itineraries leaving roundtrip out of Dubai. There will be 13 voyages, from December 17th, 2022, to March 11th, 2023, also available with the ‘flight+cruise’ package, guaranteeing maximum comfort, without having to worry about transfers to the cruise ship/luggage at arrival at the airport.

Until January 14th, 2023, the itinerary is dedicated to Oman and the Arab Emirates, with long calls, even of 2 days and 1 night, in Abu Dhabi, Muscat, and Dubai. On the New Year’s Eve voyage , the overnight call will only be in Dubai. From January 14th to March 11th, there will be the return of Qatar among the ship's destinations, which will include Doha , Dubai, Muscat , and Abu Dhabi .

The cruise company provides a range of excursions to discover wonderful destinations from a unique point of view, combining the modernity of futuristic architecture with the ancient traditions.

The “cruise & golf” package is available for golf lovers and combines the best of cruising with the best of golf. It allows golfers to play at some of the best clubs in the Arabian Gulf during the port calls.

Costa Toscana’s onboard offerings are tailored according to the destination, starting with the gastronomic offer, signed by Angel Leon, Bruno Barbieri, and Helene Darroze. The 3 world-renowned chefs will introduce the destinations through taste, with Destination Dishes, available in the MDRs that interpret the tradition and flavours of the place to be visited the following day. The onboard entertainment program will see the debut of a spectacular show, “Essence,” inspired by the Arabian Gulf’s “Arabian Nights.”

Costa Toscana is a  sailing “smart city,” able to be powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas) and equipped with technological innovations specially designed to reduce environmental impact.

The ship's interiors are the result of a creative project, curated by Adam D. Tihany, and created to enhance and bring to life the colours and atmosphere of the Italian region in a single location. Lighting, fabrics, accessories, and furniture are “Made in Italy,” created by a total of 15 partners representative of Italian excellence.

Costa Toscana cruise ship

The onboard offer is integrated into this context: from the Solemio Spa to the entertainment areas; from the thematic bars, in collaboration with international and Italian brands, to the 21 restaurants dedicated to the “food experience.” For the youngest passengers, there is the Splash AcquaPark, with a slide positioned on the highest deck, the Squok Club, and a brand new area dedicated to video games.

Cruise ships dock at Port Rashid .

Since 2021 the new Dubai Harbour Cruise terminal is also in use, It is placed between the Palm View Marina, part of Dubai Marina, and Dubai Lighthouse. The project has two terminals, which can, at the same time, manage two turnarounds of the ships with 5000+ passengers.

Three large modern cruise terminals next to each other offer their services. Taxis are plentiful. The drive to Dubai Mall is about 10 minutes. Around 10 Euro. Return rate slightly less. If you take a taxi anywhere in the UAE, ask for the meter to be switched on even if you make a tour by taxi.

Hop on/off buses will be at each terminal, transporting you to a point where the red and blue lines meet. (Wafi Mall) Here you can take an hop on/off bus . This bus will also take you back to the port. It is recommended to buy the 48-hour ticket if you want to see most of the sights.

As the whole terminal area is fenced off, walking is not an option here and there is nothing to see anyway within walking distance.

Some shopping malls also offer free shuttles, they have a desk in the terminal. (Marcato Mall, Al Ghurair City, Dubai Outlet Mall and Burjaman, the latter closest to a Metro station.)

From the cruise terminal to Dubai airport is about a 15-minute drive. About $15 per taxi.

Sightseeing:

Known as the City of Merchants, Dubai is the second largest of the seven Emirates that make up the UAE. In the entire Gulf, there is no place quite like Dubai. Its history began in the 1830s when the city broke away from Abu Dhabi and became a center of commerce and trading in its own right. In fact, Dubai's wealth is founded on trade, not oil. When oil was discovered in 1966, it merely contributed to the city's prosperity and sped up modernization.

Modern development began at the turn of the last century with heavy import-export trading, mainly in gold. What opium was to the growth of Hong Kong, gold was to Dubai.

As the leading center for business and tourism in the Middle East, Dubai offers a fascinating kaleidoscope of contrasts in a distinctive blend of modern city and timeless desert, east and west, old and new. As an exotic destination with a cosmopolitan lifestyle, Dubai combines the comfort and conveniences of the Western world with the unique charm of Arabia. Even with a high degree of tolerance for different lifestyles, Dubai remains close to its heritage. Dubai's souqs and huge shopping malls are crammed with goods, at some of the world's best prices.

But there is more to the city than shopping. Visitors find an outstanding museum and superb recreational facilities, ranging from golf and water sports to desert safaris and dhow cruises.

As the sports capital of the Middle East, Dubai boasts four championship golf courses; it is a regular fixture on the European and Asian PGA circuits and hosts the Dubai World Cup - known as the world's richest horse race. An endless array of restaurants and nightspots offers a wide choice of cuisine and entertainment. Dubai is a place of fascinating contrasts, a distinct blend of modern city, timeless deserts, rugged mountains, and miles of sandy beaches. The streets are clean and safe. With so many attractive attributes, it is not surprising that Dubai rates highly with world-class travelers, businessmen and the international jet set.

Dubai Museum This excellent museum features a great collection of interesting artifacts from Dubai's pre-oil days when the city was known as an important pearl diving and trading center. The museum is air-conditioned and exhibits are labeled in both Arabic and English. Since its renovation, the museum has become one of Dubai's main attractions. On Fridays, the museum is closed in the morning.

"Old Dubai" is best viewed at the Creek . Around bus stop 10 (red route) one will still see ships completely loaded by hand. A huge contrast in this city of glamor, but surely a photo opportunity.

Tours Excursions Transportation:

The best way to see Dubai is by Hop on/off bus , see above. If there on a Friday take the Blue Line first and then the Red Line, as most of the downtown is "closed" in the morning.

Travel on foot is not recommended: too hot and the sights are too spread out. Taxis are very cheap!

The big thing to do in Dubai is to go to "At The Top", the viewing platform of the Burj Khalifa , the world’s tallest building. Don’t do this on a shore excursion – it’s too rushed. Instead, on the night you’re in port in Dubai , go it alone. It’s easy. Tickets are time-controlled so book online a long way ahead and time your visit for sunset. Take a cab from the port. Wander round the shops and market, watch the spectacular musical fountains and then head for At The Top to watch the sunset.

While you are there visit the Dubai Fountain , the world's largest dancing fountain and one with a very enticing display - a definite must see. The show takes place at the Burj Dubai Lake. An easy way to approach it is via the Dubai Mall. Daily 1 pm and 1.30 pm (on Friday 1.30 pm and 2.00 PM) and from 6 pm to 11 pm every half an hour.

It pays to compare your cruise line tours here .

Nearby Places:

Shopping and food.

Dubai is a shopper's paradise due to its free port status, low import duties and no taxation. Modern, air-conditioned shopping malls are found throughout the city. The more traditional souqs can be a place for bargains, ambiance, and entertainment. Interesting buys include everything from gold jewelry to designer creations, cameras, electronics and oriental rugs. Shops at the malls are open from 10 am till late at night.

The Mall of the Emirates even offers the largest indoor ski slope in the world. You have to see it to believe it!

Dubai Mall boasts over 1200 stores and eateries, a walk through the huge aquarium, huge waterfalls, an ice skating rink and the magic fountains in front of the Burj Khalifa. See above. For automobile aficionados: just watch the world's most beautiful cars being parked around the entrances of the mall.

The currency is the United Arab Emirates dirham (AED, local abbreviation dhs). The Dirham is pegged to the USD, so rate variations with this currency are unlikely.

Communication:

Free Wifi facilities in the terminal. When the crew members are using the facilities in great numbers, speeds are very slow to no connection at all. Wait till the crew has to be onboard (a half before guests boarding time) and you will find that the connections are improving. Some Hop on/off buses now also offer free WiFi.

Opening Hours and Holidays:

Shopping hours Daily 0900-1300 and 1600-2100, but many and all mall shops are open all day. Shops sometimes close for prayers Fri 1130-1330.

Dubai Cruise Port

United Arab Emirates 0 Comments 1224 Views

Dubai cruise port is considered one of the largest and the most popular cruise ports in the world in terms of passenger traffic. It is not surprising as Dubai represents the jewel of the Middle East attracting tourists with its unique beauty, breathtaking shopping, the tallest skyscrapers, and numerous holiday entertainments that you could only imagine.

You can not call yourself a real traveler if you have not been at least once to Dubai, the city of thousand and one nights, the city that respects traditions but is still constantly changing. Looking at modern Dubai, it is hard to believe that only 50-60 years ago it represented a modest settlement, a small desert outpost that rapidly grew into the dream city being today synonymous to luxury lifestyle and dolce vita. It is true that those who visited Dubai just 7-10 years ago can not be completely sure that they still know it well as the city is constantly developing and does not currently look like it used to be. Isn’t it a good reason to return to Dubai regularly to be aware of the changes occurring to it? The best way to do it is to include this magic and flamboyant city in your cruise itinerary from time to time.

Where Cruise Ships Dock in Dubai

There are two main cruise terminals in Dubai, Dubai Cruise Terminal and the recently built Dubai Harbor Cruise Terminal.

Dubai Cruise Terminal (Port Rashid)

On their arrival in Dubai, cruise ships can dock at Port Rashid which contains as many as 5 terminals intended both for cruise ships (3 terminals) and cargo vessels. It is located close to the old quarter where such areas as Karama, Bur Dubai, and Rasidiya are. Dubai cruise port has all the facilities required for the tourists so they could feel comfortable (cafes, free Internet, business center, currency exchange office, etc). The port is so large that it can receive over 25 000 passengers simultaneously. You can find more information here

Dubai Harbor Cruise Terminal

Dubai Harbor Cruise Terminal was built in 2020. It is located between Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and Bluewaters Island. This cruise terminal was constructed exclusively for cruise ships belonging to Carnival Corporation Cruise lines ( AIDA , Costa , Seabourn, Princess, Holland America, and others). This modern terminal is distinguished by outstanding comfort offering tourists free Wi-Fi, Duty-Free, Meet & Greet Lobby, VIP area, etc. For more information please consult here

How to Get from Dubai Airport to Dubai Cruise Ports?

There are two international airports in Dubai, Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). If your flight arrives at the international airport of Abu Dhabi, the neighboring city, you can use regular free airport shuttles departing from the Abu Dhabi international airport to Dubai. For more information, you can consult here

How to Get from Dubai Airport to Dubai Cruise Ports

The best way to get to one of the cruise terminals from both Dubai airports is by taxi. The thing is that you are not allowed to walk through the territory of the cruise ports and even if you get to the entrance of the terminal you will still have to use a taxi service or a bus shuttle to get to your cruise ship. That is why it makes sense to grab a taxi immediately on your arrival at the airport that will save you time and nerves (the cost is about 30 EUR depending on the port and the terminal you need).

You can also go by metro from one of the Dubai airports to the Downtown (Burj Khalifa) which will cost you approximately 8 AED (2 EUR) and there you can grab a taxi to get to the required port. This combined way will be more money-saving and not that time-wasting.

Another way to get to one of the cruise ports is through airport bus shuttles which depart regularly and stop at the bus stations Ibn Battuta (F55 bus route) and Satwa (F55A bus route). After that, you get to one of the cruise terminals by taxi (the cost will amount to 10-15 EUR).

If the airport of your arrival is in Abu Dhabi please consult theese detailed instructions .

What to Visit During Your Stay in Dubai?

It is impossible to visit all the famous city sites within your comparatively short stay in Dubai. Here is a short list of its main and the most remarkable city attractions.

Burj Khalifa is the name almost everyone knows. It is the tallest building in the world and can be called a contemporary wonder of the world. The main hallmark of Dubai is almost 830 meters (it is not that easy to imagine a building that is almost a kilometer tall!). To avoid long lines you can buy an “At the Top” ticket and enjoy a marvelous view from the observation deck. Having left the building you can find yourself in an amazing Burj Park with fountains and picturesque gardens. Burj Khalifa is worth visiting in the evening when it becomes dark. You can easily do it during your overnight stay but you should make the reservation for a definite hour in advance. For more details please see here

What to Visit During Your Stay in Dubai - Burj Khalifa

Dubai Aquarium is another man-made tourist attraction in Dubai. It is located on the ground floor of the Dubai Mall and has up to 140 underwater species. Its glass three-meter-high tunnel can amaze everyone because being inside it you are surrounded by numerous sea inhabitants and feel like you are on the bottom of the deep blue sea. Children will especially appreciate this exciting experience!

Old Dubai with its authentic atmosphere is worth visiting as well. Undoubtedly, Dubai is a modern rapidly developing city, and yet walking along old streets in the Al Fahidi Quarter can help you better feel the real historical spirit of it full of contrasts where old strict traditions exist alongside outstanding technical progress and higher standard of living.

Deira represents a part of the Old City and is a special colorful place where famous eastern markets are located. They are full of tourists and shoppers all day long. There, you can buy traditional gold jewelry, spices, and beautiful souvenirs. It is really difficult to resist the temptation to buy something, no one will leave this special place without a purchase!

If you are tired of Dubai’s sweltering heat you can cool down by going shopping at the comfortable huge and air-conditioned Mall of Emirates (located in the Al Barsha area) where you can even go skiing at the ski slope located inside. Dubai Mall is another not less popular place for shopping and entertainment. It can be found in the city Downtown, at Sheikh Zayed road, next to Burj Khalifa. Both shopping centers are conveniently located not far from the metro stations and the bus stops.

Dubai Creek represents a natural salt-water inlet separating the old and the modern cities. Traditionally it was always crossed with Abras, small wooden boats. Today people still often use this means of transportation to avoid traffic jams, whereas tourists like them as a kind of entertainment that in addition costs cheaper than cheap (less than one euro).

What to Visit During Your Stay in Dubai Cruise Port

Miracle Gardens will add more colors to your already amazing trip. It is the largest flower garden in the world that occupies a territory of more than 70 000 square meters and has more than 150 million flowers some of which form quaint miraculous huge sculptures spreading sweet pleasant smells. It is a real fairytale that for a couple of hours can come true!

Jumeirah Mosque is the most beautiful mosque in Dubai looking as if it was carved from ivory. This masterpiece represents a clear example of Islamic architectural style and is an exact copy of the famous Al-Azhar Mosque located in Cairo but eight times smaller. Visitors are allowed to enter for excursions every day except Friday (the special sacred day for all Muslims). It is located on Jumeirah Road.

Of course, the list of tourist attractions of the city of Dubai is far from being completed as it is impossible to enumerate all of them in one comparatively short review.

Where to Swim in Dubai Cruise Port and Nearby?

Beaches in Dubai deserve special attention as they are well equipped, patrolled by lifeguards, sheltered, and have clean turquoise tranquil water and fluffy white sand. All of them are man-made and very well groomed; they are distinguished by their outstanding comfort and cleanliness. Visiting one of them while staying in Dubai is a must!

Jumeirah Beach with a fantastic view of Burj-Al-Arab (the most luxurious and worldwide famous seven-star hotel) is conveniently located in the popular Jumeirah district. The beach was created for Jumeirah Beach Residence, anyway, most of its parts are open for everyone.

Where to Swim in Dubai Cruise Port and Nearby

La Mer Beach is another popular beach well-equipped and contains all the facilities required for an active pastime (various types of water sports).

Umm Suqeim Beach is a special and unique beach located on the peninsula where the amazing Burj-Al-Arab can be found. It is open 24 hours a day which means that you can easily swim at night as it is lighted. There is also Kite Beach representing the part of Umm Suqeim Beach where kitesurfers can enjoy their leisure time ‘flying’. Besides, if you spend some minutes you can easily get to the Wild Wadi Waterpark with numerous water slides and other popular water entertainment.

The good news is that to get to most of the most popular and beautiful Dubai beaches you won’t have to pay any entrance fee.

Hacks for Tourists Visiting Dubai Cruise Port

  • Although a taxi is not that cheap in case you are traveling from one of the airports to the cruise port it is better to use taxi services as it can be a problem to go on foot from the nearest metro station to the port. Although it seems that the gates of the port are near you can walk for some 30 minutes without seeing any pedestrian crossroads. So, your walk under the burning sun to the cruise port can become exhausting and unpleasant besides it is not allowed to walk on the territory of the port on foot and you will still have to take a taxi to get to your cruise ship. We recommend that you should spend your precious time on other more pleasant things which are numerous in Dubai.
  • A taxi colored completely pink or having a pink roof is intended only for women. Their drivers are women as well.
  • Taking a taxi you should insist on switching on a taxi meter (as a rule it will cost you less than if an ‘enterprising’ driver would announce a fixed price). Besides, you should know that when a taxi departs from the airport or cruise port you will always have to pay a surcharge amounting to 20 AED.
  • In case your flight from Dubai is late in the evening or at night whereas you have to leave your cruise ship during the first half of that day we recommend that you do the following. Take a taxi to the airport of your departure, leave your luggage at the luggage storage area located there at the arrival hall and explore the city using public transport. Don’t forget to plan your time with the reserve.
  • In the UAE you are not allowed to pay cash using public transport. If you plan to use the bus or metro you will have to buy the so-called Nol Ticket which can be purchased at any of the public transport stops.
  • If you are going to use the metro you should know that it is open on Fridays from 10 in the morning.

Costa Serena joins Venezia and Atlantica in port in Dubai

Costa Serena has become the latest cruise ship to dock in Dubai as she awaits her cruise restart in Asia, joining fleet mates Costa Venezia and Costa Atlantica in Port Rashid.

Costa Serena docked Thursday in Dubai, joining two other Costa cruise ships that are waiting out the last of the cruise shutdown in the Middle East’s primary cruise port.

Costa Serena, a Concordia-class cruise ship, is scheduled to resume cruises this coming September out of Japan.

She sailed from Klang in Malaysia last week, arriving in Dubai for reprovisioning and to board crew for her cruise resumption, according to officials familiar with the ship’s plans.

Costa Venezia and Costa Atlantica are also docked in Port Rashid. Both ships are due to resume cruises out of China later this year.

Dubai has become a popular holding port in recent weeks, with AIDA Cruises having used the new Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal for two of its ships last month, while Carnival Cruise Line docked two ships at the same port this month .

Carnival Spirit has since departed, while Carnival Splendor remains alongside.

Both ships are waiting to resume cruises from Australia, although unlike Costa’s Asia plans, those cruises don’t yet have any scheduled resumption date due to Australia’s ongoing COVID-19 concerns.

The Australian government is one of the few major cruise markets yet to reopen , or provide a timeline for the reopening, of the domestic cruise market.

While Costa Serena and Costa Venezia are both part of the Costa Cruises fleet, Costa Atlantica is technically not, although she retains her Costa branding and name designation.

The ship was sold to CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping in late 2019. CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping is a joint venture between the Chinese conglomerate CSSC and Carnival Corporation, which owns Costa Cruises and eight other cruise brands.

The new joint venture plans to operate cruise ships in China for the rapidly growing domestic cruise market.CSSC Carnival will begin operations with two ships purchased from Costa Cruises, Costa Atlantica in 2021 and Costa Mediterranea in 2021 or 2022.

A further four cruise ships are intended to be built locally in China and are scheduled to enter service between 2023 and 2028.

Costa Toscana Arrives In Dubai For Her First Middle East Season

costa cruise terminal dubai

With the arrival of Costa Toscana, Costa Cruises is consolidating its presence in the Dubai market.

The Costa Group opened the Dubai Harbour Cruise Port in December 2021, making it the city’s most sophisticated cruise terminal. The Costa flagship, which commenced service in March of this year, made its maiden visit to the terminal. Officials from the host city and country, in this case, Italy, were invited to a celebration aboard the ship during her first voyage.

Costa Toscana’s winter 2022/23 itinerary schedule out of Dubai will feature seven-day cruises across the Arabian Gulf. From 17 December 2022 to11 March 2023, a total of 13 cruises will be offered as part of a “flight+cruise” package that includes airfare and hotel accommodations, so guests need not bother about getting to and from the airport or carrying around heavy suitcases.

Long calls in Dubai, Muscat, and Abu Dhabi of up to two days and one night are planned for travel between now and 14 January 2023. In order to ring in the New Year in style, the New Year’s Eve cruise will make only one overnight call—to Dubai. From 14 January to 11 March, the ship will sail to several Middle Eastern cities like Dubai, Doha, Muscat, and Abu Dhabi.

Costa provides a broad selection of tours to see these great sites from a unique perspective, which blends the modernism of futuristic architecture with the attractiveness of the desert and old traditions. For example, a distinctive trip in Dubai is the helicopter tour, which provides a stunning view of this amazing metropolis. The off-road desert excursion is also not to be missed. Guests in Muscat may take a Dhow tour along Oman’s coast, a traditional wooden boat, or an excursion to the beautiful canyon of Wadi Al Arbeieen, with its lakes and pools of water sculpted out of Oman’s colourful mountains.

Guests in Abu Dhabi can visit one of the city’s three most famous theme parks: Ferrari World for those who enjoy speed and racing, Warner Brothers World for those who want to meet their favourite cartoon characters, and Yas Waterworld, a massive water park with 43 attractions such as slides, water games, and swimming pools.

Visit the Louvre, a genuine marvel of contemporary architecture where you can view pieces of art from all over the globe, or rest on the exclusive beach of Al Maya Island, a genuinely earthly paradise just minutes from Abu Dhabi.

You may combine your passion for golf with your love of sailing by booking the “cruise & golf” package, which offers guests the chance to play at some of the most magnificent Arabian Gulf golf courses while the ship is docked there.

The onboard amenities of the Costa Toscana will also be adapted to each specific port of call. Let’s begin with the chef trio of Bruno Barbieri, Hélène Darroze, and Angel León and their culinary offering.

These three Michelin-starred chefs will provide a culinary introduction to the cruise ports with their interpretations of local specialities, called Destination Dishes, served in the ship’s signature restaurants. Each of the three chefs at the Archipelago restaurant has created a menu that aims to reflect the cuisine of the region through which the restaurant is passing.

An unparalleled and stunning production dubbed “Essence,” modelled after the “Arabian Nights” atmospheres of the Arabian Gulf will make its premiere as part of the ship’s entertainment schedule.

The Costa Toscana is a floating “smart city” that runs on liquefied natural gas and has cutting-edge technical advancements to lessen its adverse environmental effects.

The interiors were designed to highlight and bring to life the colours and mood of this great Italian region. They are the outcome of an exceptional creative endeavour organised by Adam D. Tihany.

All of the furnishings, lighting, textiles, and accessories are “Made in Italy” and were designed by 15 companies, which are excellent examples of Italian design.

Everything from the Solemio Spa to the entertainment spaces, the thematic bars created in partnership with major Italian and worldwide businesses, and the ship’s 21 restaurants and “food experience” zones are seamlessly woven into this unique setting.

The Squok Club, a new video gaming area, and the Splash AcquaPark, located on the ship’s uppermost deck, are geared for the ship’s younger guests.

COSTA TOSCANA DEBUTS AT DUBAI HARBOUR

The Italian company’s flagship arrived at Dubai Harbour for the first time.

Winter 2022/23 itineraries to include 3 to 7 days cruise packages exploring the Arabian Gulf.

Dubai, 16 December 2022

Costa Cruises is consolidating its presence in Dubai with the arrival of Costa Toscana.

The Italian company’s latest flagship, which entered service last March, called today for the first time at Dubai Harbour, an extraordinary seafront district designed for a maritime lifestyle, set against the district’s unique backdrop, iconic vista and accessible location. On the occasion of this first call, an event was held on board the ship, attended by local and Italian authorities.

Throughout the winter of 2022/23, Costa Toscana will offer itineraries of different duration – 3, 4 or 7 days – to discover the Arabian Gulf. In total, there will be 13 cruises, from 17 December 2022 to 11 March 2023, also available with the ‘flight+cruise’ package, which guarantees maximum comfort, without having to worry about transfers to the ship or luggage at the arrival at the airport.

To mark the arrival, Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal Management along with public and private sector stakeholders will exchange plaques with the Ship Captain, a maritime tradition, to commemorate the ship’s arrival. Throughout the season, more than 300,000 passengers are expected to arrive at the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal, which reaffirms the bounce back of the cruise business after the pandemic.

Abdulla Binhabtoor, Chief Portfolio Management Officer, Shamal Holding said: “We are delighted to welcome our second LNG powered cruise ship for the season with the arrival of Costa Toscana. Dubai is a city where cruise ships play a crucial role in boosting the overall tourism strategy. Cruises provide distinct choices to experience the city from a unique perspective. We believe these shorter itineraries from Costa will offer tourists and residents a chance to experience maritime lifestyle, set against our extraordinary backdrop designed to offer something for everyone and anyone who loves to be on, near, in or by the sea. Across Dubai Harbour and our wider stakeholders and partners we are committed to playing our part to support achieving Dubai’s tourism strategy to become one of the most visited cities in the world.”

“Last year, we had a great season homeporting at Dubai Harbour with Costa Firenze. We are elated to be back this time with our new flagship of the fleet, Costa Toscana, our most technological and sustainable ship to date. We will offer to our Guests many different itineraries options including 3, 4 or 7 days itineraries options to experience our product and to discover the Arabian Gulf.” said Francesco Raffa, Director of Asia Region, Growth Markets and North America Costa Cruises . “We are grateful for the support we continue to receive each year from Dubai Harbour’s extraordinary location, facilities and employees. It’s great to see that we both seek to offer innovative lifestyle and hospitality experiences with our itineraries, tailor-made for all types of traveller preferences from the region, and with the hospitality and state of the art of the services at the terminal.”

The company offers a wide range of excursions to discover from a unique point of view these wonderful destinations, which combine the modernity of futuristic architecture with the charm of the desert and ancient traditions. For example, in Dubai, a very special tour is the helicopter tour, which offers a breath-taking panorama of this incredible city. Also not to be missed is the off-road desert tour. In Muscat, guests can try a cruise along the coast of Oman on board the Dhow , a traditional wooden boat, or an excursion to the spectacular canyon of Wadi Al Arbeieen , with its lakes and pools of water carved out of Oman’s colourful mountains. In Abu Dhabi, guests can choose to visit one of the city’s three most famous theme parks: Ferrari World for those who love speed and racing; Warner Brothers World , to meet famous cartoon characters; and Yas Waterworld , a huge water park with 43 attractions including slides, water games and swimming pools. Or also relax on the exclusive beach of Al Maya Island , a true earthly paradise just minutes from Abu Dhabi, or visit the Louvre , a true masterpiece of contemporary architecture, where you can admire works of art from all over the world.

The “cruise & golf” package is also available for golf lovers, which combines the best of golf with the best of cruising, and will allow golfers to play at some of the most beautiful clubs in the Arabian Gulf during the ship’s port calls.

Costa Toscana’s onboard offerings will also be tailored according to the destination. Starting with the gastronomic offer, signed by Bruno Barbieri, Hélène Darroze, and Ángel León . These three world-renowned chefs will introduce the cruise destinations through taste, with the Destination Dishes, available in the main restaurants that interpret the tradition and flavors of the place that will be visited the following day. Again, the three Archipelago restaurant menus, one by each chef, are designed to explore the sea being sailed through food. The on-board entertainment program will see the debut of an unprecedented and spectacular show, called “ Essence ,” inspired by the Arabian Gulf’s “Arabian Nights” atmospheres.

Costa Toscana is a traveling “smart city,” able to be powered by liquefied natural gas and equipped with cutting-edge technological innovations designed to reduce environmental impact. The interiors are the result of an extraordinary creative project, curated by Adam D. Tihany, created to enhance and bring to life the colors and atmosphere of this wonderful Italian region in a single location. Furniture, lighting, fabrics and accessories are all “Made in Italy,” created by 15 partners highly representative of Italian excellence. The onboard offer is perfectly integrated in this extraordinary context: from the Solemio Spa to the areas dedicated to entertainment; from the thematic bars, in collaboration with great Italian and international brands, to the 21 restaurants and areas dedicated to the “food experience.” For the youngest guests there is the Splash AcquaPark, with its slide positioned on the highest deck, a new area dedicated to video games, and the Squok Club.

Until 14 January 2023, the itinerary will be dedicated to the United Arab Emirates and Oman , with long calls, even of two days and one night, in Dubai, Muscat and Abu Dhabi. On the New Year’s Eve cruise, the overnight call will only be in Dubai, to celebrate the New Year in style.
