Things to Do

Entertainment, entertainment | dave chappelle set to headline xcel energy center in september, the comic faced a backlash after he attempted to play first avenue last summer.

Dave Chappelle poses for a fan photo.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday through Ticketmaster. Neither the venue nor the promoter announced prices.

Chappelle, 49, rose to fame as the star of Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show,” which ran for 28 episodes in the early ’00s before Chappelle quit, despite blockbuster ratings. One of the most famous sketches featured Eddie Murphy’s brother Charlie recounting a late-night basketball game with Prince. The Purple One loved it and made references to it online.

After the end of “Chappelle’s Show,” the comic mostly stepped out of the spotlight, but returned to regular touring in 2013. He has since performed in numerous local venues, including a November 2021 show at Target Center.

Last summer, he announced a last-minute gig at First Avenue that led to an online backlash due to the comedian’s numerous jokes about transgender people. In 2020, the venue adopted a code of conduct for its audience members, employees and performers that forbids “acting or speaking in a discriminatory manner or using racist, sexist, ableist, transphobic, homophobic, xenophobic or other biased language, including intentional misgendering.”

The show was ultimately moved to the Varsity Theater.

Chappelle has filmed a series of specials for Netflix and was reportedly paid $24.1 million for 2021’s “The Closer,” which he has said will be his last stand-up special for the foreseeable future.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - Dave Chappelle, the comedic force behind the Chappelle Show, numerous stand-up specials, and movies, is coming to the Xcel Energy Center in September.

Tuesday, Chappelle announced a 12-stop tour that features a show in St. Paul on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Presale tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 26, with general sale starting the following day.

For those who get tickets, cell phones and smartwatches will need to be secured in Yondr pouches during the performance, as no video or audio recording is allowed. You will maintain possession of your devices, but they must stay in the locked pouch.

'canceled' comedian dave chappelle returning to twin cities for xcel center gig.

Twenty years after his namesake TV show made him a household name and two years after sparking backlash from transgender rights supporters, comedian Dave Chappelle is returning to an arena near you.

The "Chappelle's Show" creator and renowned stand-up comic will perform at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Sept. 23 as part of an 11-city fall tour. Tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster , with presale options beginning Wednesday. Tour promoter Live Nation is not naming ticket prices.

As is always the case at Chappelle's performances, no cellphones or recording devices will be allowed into the show. Attendees will have to check their phones at the door in locked security pouches.

Chappelle, 49, sparked protest last summer in the Twin Cities with a series of "pop-up shows" that followed heavy criticism over comments deemed transphobic in his Netflix special "The Closer."

The backlash was strong enough for the comedian's longtime local club of choice, First Avenue, to cancel a planned performance. That show got moved to the Live Nation-operated Varsity Theater, where two other gigs had already been announced, and protestors picketed outside.

Chris Riemenschneider has been covering the Twin Cities music scene since 2001, long enough for Prince to shout him out during "Play That Funky Music (White Boy)." The St. Paul native authored the book "First Avenue: Minnesota's Mainroom" and previously worked as a music critic at the Austin American-Statesman in Texas.

dave chappelle fall comedy tour dates

After an explosive and contentious Netflix special in 2021, Dave Chappelle is hitting the road again.

The veteran comedian has announced the dates for a fall stand-up comedy tour, titled “Dave Chappelle Live,” which will open with twin dates at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Aug. 22-23 and conclude at Chicago’s United Center on Oct. 4.

Tickets to the tour, produced by Live Nation, will be available starting with local presales on Wednesday, July 26. The general onsale begins on Thursday, July 27, at 10 a.m. local time at Ticketmaster.com.

Popular on Variety

Chappelle has been a controversial figure following his 2021 Netflix special “The Closer,” in which he made jokes about transgender people, leading to  company walkouts  and protests last October. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos originally defended Chappelle, saying in statement that the comedian is “one of the most popular stand-ups today” and “as with our other talent, we work hard to support their creative freedom — even though this means there will always be content on Netflix some people believe is harmful.” Sarandos ultimately said he “screwed up” in his reaction to the Chappelle backlash.

The comedian made headlines again in 2022 when he was attacked on stage  while performing a comedy set during the Netflix Is a Joke festival in Los Angeles.

Lower Level Behind the Net (Hockey)

Lower level seating behind the net includes three sections on each side of the ice with up to 26 rows of seating in each section. The Wild shoot twice towards sections 109-111, making them popular with home team fans. The views on the lower level behind the net aren't the best in the arena. The other side of the rink seems kind of far away and all views of the ice are through the protective net. Sit in Row 20+ to have a better view of the other end and to be close to the concourse. Row 1 ticketholders on the glass receive complimentary food and drink.

On the Glass Seats

On the Glass Seats at a Minnesota Wild game are among the best seats at Xcel Energy Center. Ticketholders in the first row of the 100 Level get exclusive access to the On the Glass Club and its amenities. The Club Lounge is an all-inclusive space. Glass seat ticketholders receive complimentary beer, wine, soda, gourmet entrees and desserts. This is the most exclusive club in the arena with fewer than 200 patrons per game. Glass Seats tickets also come with access to the Club Level concourse on the stadium's second level.

"Good Seat at a good level with the stage "

Seat is just to the left of the stage and is at eye level with the stage making viewing comfortable because you’re not turning your head or looking up or down.

Following the news of her highly anticipated third studio album  HIT ME HARD AND SOFT , set for release on May 17 [pre-order/add/save  HERE ],  Billie Eilish  has announced arena dates, produced by Live Nation, for her HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR. Starting in September 2024, Eilish will embark on her North American leg of the tour which runs through to the end of December 2024.

Ticket Information

The tour wants to give fans, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value. To make this possible, they have chosen to use Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange. If fans purchase tickets for a show and can't attend, they'll have the option to resell them to other fans at the original price paid. To help protect the Exchange, the tour has requested all tickets be mobile only and restricted from transfer. Please note, a valid bank account or debit card within the country of your event is required to sell on the Face Value Exchange. More information on how the Ticketmaster Exchange works is available here .

For safety and speed of entry, we strongly discourage guests from bringing bags of any kind to events at Xcel Energy Center. Purses no larger than 12” x 12” x 6” are allowed at designated X-ray entry points. This applies to all purses, including clear bags. Backpacks, coolers or large totes are prohibited. Medical and parenting bags are permitted and subject to X-ray screening. Wristlet, clutch or wallets 4” x 6” x 1.5” or smaller are allowed at all entrances and subject to inspection.

Mobile Entry

Pro tip for faster mobile entry:  Add your tickets to your phone's "wallet" and have a fully charged battery. This bypasses the need for Wi-Fi or cellular data at the gates.

Mobile tickets are like an airline boarding pass which can be accessed with a smartphone via the Ticketmaster app or mobile site in a bar code format and scanned at the gate for entry. Mobile tickets are protected by  Ticketmaster’s SafeTix™  technology. SafeTix™ continually generates a new and unique barcode that automatically refreshes every few seconds so the barcode cannot be stolen or copied, keeping your tickets safe and secure. Screen shots are not accepted for entry.

Click here for more details on mobile tickets.

Cashless Payment Only

Only credit card and mobile payment (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) are accepted for concessions, retail and parking transactions. Only credit card payment is accepted for box office transactions. Cash is not accepted.

Krasnodar, Russia

Tours, Attractions and Things To Do in Krasnodar

Here we are in the South of Russia. Welcome to Krasnodar, a major economic and cultural center of North Caucasus, also called “the capital of Kuban”. Krasnodar, perhaps, is one of the most interesting resort towns of the Russian Federation. It is a relatively young city founded by the Cossacks in в 1793 on the lands granted by Ekaterina II (hence its former name was Ekaterinodar). Later, when the Soviet system rose to power, the city was re-named to Krasnodar in 1920, and it preserved this name up to date.

Krasnodar is a center of the Russia’s southern touristic zone, located of the right bank of the Kuban River, 120-150 km from two warm seas – the Black and the Azov. It is an interesting fact that the city is located in the golden section of the Earth, almost in between the equator and the North Pole, right on the 45th parallel, also called “the Golden Line” or “the Life Line”. There exists an opinion that the living conditions in these latitudes are most favorable for human.

In spite of the city’s “youth” Krasnodar has many historical landmarks, while its architectural look is various and represented by different styles from Baroque and Classicism to late Modern. In Krasnodar, there is one of the largest Russian churches – Saint Catherine’s Cathedral, built as early as in 1914 and survived by a miracle under the Soviet power. It is also worth while visiting the Krasnodar main Orthodox Church – Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Interesting and dramatic, was the fate of this, one of the Russia’s most beautiful churches, an example of Russian and Byzantine templar style. Alexander Nevsky Military Cathedral was erected in April 1853, but later on, in year 1932 it was blown up by the Communists. And it was not until May 2006 when the inauguration ceremony of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral built anew took place.

Nowadays the Krasnodar architectural variety combines the harmony of old and modern structures. Now, next to the churches there are also modern high-rise buildings (the Marriott Hotel”), shopping and entertainment centers (“Red Square”), modern concert halls (Palace of Arts “Premiere”), restaurants, and night clubs. The city also strikes with its numerous museums, theaters, art galleries. Particularly, if you find yourself in Krasnodar, we recommend you to visit the Krasnodar Regional Art Museum named after F. A. Kovalenko to enjoy a rare collection of Russian avant-garde and Dutch art of XVI century, and also attend concerts of SSAI “Kuban Cossack chorus” to listen to Kuban Cossack, Russian and Ukrainian folk-songs.

Two Krasnodar unusual landmarks enjoy wide popularity among tourists and local community: the Monument to a purse and the Monument to the doggies in love. Do you want to turn round? Then you are to the purse. It is enough to rub your purse over it, and you will have more money. But if you are unlucky in love, then the loving couple of dogs will help you, you should stroke their small paws and love will certainly come to you.
