CRASH PADS

What is a crash pad? A crash pad is a house or apartment where commuting Flight Attendants and Pilots rent a bed to use before, between and after work trips but do not live in their base full time. Traditionally they will use these beds 4 – 8 nights a month. There are two types:

Cold Beds : A Cold Bed is rented for a monthly fee usually paying a one-month security deposit like you would with an apartment. Generally there is storage for your own bedding, food, clothing, luggage, etc. Most are furnished with a shared kitchen and bathroom for personal use. Average prices range from $275 - $325 depending on how many beds there are per room, taking into account top or bottom bunk, location, and amenities.

  • Hot Beds : A Hot Bed is rented for single night use. Some require a monthly rental to reserve a bed, and the bed is not exclusive to you. Hot Beds usually require you to travel with your own bedding or sleeping bag and generally do not have a designated place for you to permanently store belongings. They too have shared kitchens and bathrooms. Contacting the host to “reserve” the bed before your arrival is generally required. Average prices range from $35 -$65 per night or $125 - $150 per month. Even if you pay monthly, you still need to reach out to reserve the hot bed.

Pass Travel

As a Delta employee, you have many different options for leisure, commuting, and company business travel. The chart below shows the different travel benefits you and your pass riders can access. Please note that some of these travel benefits may be temporarily paused when on (sick) leave or OJI.

screen_shot_2021-12-01_at_4.38.26_pm.png

Non-Rev / Standby Travel (NRSA)

One of the amazing benefits you have as a Delta employee is that you and your eligible family members/companions can travel on standby on all Delta flights either free or for a reduced rate.

Eligibility Delta Flight Attendants can start enjoying pass privileges as soon as their documentation and eligibility are verified and loaded into Delta’s HR system. You may also share your pass privileges with your eligible family members, such as: spouse/domestic partner or travel companion, (non)-dependent children, and parents. All pass travel is standby travel.

Boarding Order / Pass Travel Code Upon check-in for your non-rev flight, you’ll be presented with a selection of different pass travel codes. The codes your pass riders have access to, in order of highest to lowest priority, are as follows:

  • S1A (Emergency Travel - Manager Approval Needed)
  • S1 (Relocation - Manager Approval Needed)
  • S2 (Higher Priority - Each employee and parents OR spouse/domestic partner/travel companion will have six S2 travel days per year, starting at the date of employment).
  • S3 (Standard Priority - Unlimited use per year)
  • S3B (Parents, Nondependent children, retirees - Unlimited use per year)
  • S4 (Buddy Passes)

If multiple employees are checked in for the same flight with the same Priority Code, the employee with the highest company seniority will be given a seat first.

Travel Procedures

  • You and your pass riders can check up to two bags at 50 lbs for free each. The weight limit of free checked baggage is based on the same rules for main cabin revenue customers. Check out the resources tab as there are some exception markets.
  • Nonrevenue customers can check-in either at the airport or on the Delta website (some international airports excluded). The same check-in deadlines which apply to revenue passengers also apply to pass riders. If you choose to change your standby code after check-in, you may ask an agent to change it before the local check-in deadline, however, agents may not be available to help pass riders due to operational needs. A pass rider's standby code cannot be changed after the local check-in deadline.
  • At most locations, pass riders will receive their seat assignments at the boarding gate. Many airports are equipped with overhead gate information display screens which will show when seats have been assigned to standby passengers, but you may also check the standby list on Travelnet or the Fly Delta app. Standby customers must arrive at the gate at least 35 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes prior to departure for international flights.
  • All pass riders must comply with a dress code. Check out the resources tab for a link to the portion of Deltanet that addresses this.
  • Pass riders traveling on international routes are subject to any applicable international taxes and fees. The amount of these fees depends on the city pair flown. These are payroll deducted from active employees or billed to inactive and retired employees' home addresses.
  • Do not list on multiple flights at the same time (example: booking MCO-ATL and MCO-JFK for the same travel date).

Listing Procedure You must list yourself and your pass riders prior to checking in for the flight. The easiest way to do this is through Travelnet on Deltanet.

  • Go to Deltanet and click on “Travelnet” in the upper right corner
  • Fill out the airport codes in FROM and TO and select either one-way or round-trip.
  • Select the departure and/or arrival date and click “search”
  • A list of possible flight options will appear sorted by departure time. Under Available/Authorized you may see multiple numbers. These numbers are the open seats for that particular cabin of service (example First Class 1/3 means that there’s 1 more open seat in First Class, but Delta can book 3 more customers in First Class, meaning they can overbook this cabin if they have to. Economy Class -2/-2 would mean that the Economy Cabin has been oversold by 2 customers and since it’s oversold, Delta will not allow any more customers to be booked in this cabin as it shows -2.). It’s best to look under Total Avail to see how many open seats are really available for that flight.
  • The icon under “Stby List” will allow you to see how many employees are listed for this flight. First, you’ll see all employees and pass riders listed with their potential category (active, parent, retiree/other, buddy) and their hire date. When you click on “view airport standby list” you will see all standby customers that are currently checked in for the flight. This list will update as early as 24 hours prior to departure all the way until departure time.
  • When you find the flight you want to list for, click the button in front of the flight and click at the bottom of the page on "Continue to Listing."
  • On this page, you have the option to “Add More Flights” and follow the same instructions above to add more flights or you can continue to select the pass riders you want to book this flight for. Additionally, fill out your email address and your phone number and click on "Continue."
  • (This step is only for international travel where local taxes are involved): If your travel is internationally and involves local taxes to be paid, you will now see the total price which will be payroll deducted. You can click on “continue” and follow the next step.
  • You will now see a screen with TSA Passenger Name Validation. It’s important that you fill out all pass riders full name as it appears on their photo ID and their date of birth. If you have a Redress Number or Known Traveler Number, you can enter it on this page as well. Now click on "Create Listing."
  • The listing has now been created and your booking code appears at the top of the page. You should also receive an email confirmation of the listing.
  • To change or cancel your listing go to the top of the page under “Manage My Account” and click on “Find Listings and Reservations”. By simply clicking on the record locator you can make changes to your itinerary.

Cabin Jumpseat

On most mainline Delta flights, cabin jumpseats are available to be booked by Delta Flight Attendants. Jumpseats may be used for personal travel (including commuting). The number of jumpseats available per aircraft type is determined by aircraft configuration and crew staffing. Jumpseats are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis but could be canceled by Delta if a jumpseat is needed for operational reasons.

Eligibility Flight Attendants must have current FAA qualifications to occupy a cabin jumpseat. Aircraft-specific qualification isn't required; however, if not familiar with aircraft door operation, the jumpseat rider must receive an instructional briefing by a working flight attendant. A valid passport and applicable visas are required for all international jumpseat travel. International jumpseat travel may require applicable international fees and charges to be paid locally at the ticket counter.

Booking parameters The purpose of travel will determine when booking opens for the flight attendant jumpseat:

  • Reserving a cabin jumpseat ahead of time for commuting to work may be booked no earlier than 5 days plus 11 hours before the day of the flight regardless of departure time. (Example: Flight is on Monday, you can book the jumpseat on Tuesday at 13:00 ET).
  • Reserving a cabin jumpseat for personal travel may be booked no earlier than 3 days plus 11 hours before the day of the flight. (Example: Flight is on Monday, you can book the jumpseat on Thursday at 13:00 ET).

Here’s a Tip! Set an alarm to book your jumpseat for commutes to or from work.

Reserving a jumpseat The easiest way to reserve, view, or cancel a jumpseat booking is by using the MiCrew app or icrew.

  • Simply click on the “Jumpseat” option at the bottom of the app.
  • Personal: Leisure travel or commuting back from the base.
  • To Work: Commuting to work from any airport to the base you are reporting to for your next assignment (within 1 calendar day of sign in).
  • Select the date of intended travel
  • Fill out departure and arrival airport
  • You may fill out the flight number, but if you like to see all departures between the city pair, please leave this area blank
  • Click “Search Available Jumpseats”
  • You will now see a list of flights, click on the flight you’d like to list for.
  • Answer the safety question and click on “Book Jumpseat”.
  • A listing has been made and your booking code is now visible for the jumpseat listing.
  • Once in iCrew go to the “Flight Info” tab and click on “Jumpseat”
  • Click “Book Jumpseat”
  • Fill out the flight number.
  • Click enter
  • If a jumpseat is available, click on the green button “Continue Request”
  • Fill out the Captcha code on the screen and click “OK”

Jumpseat Attire Your Delta CREW ID must be displayed at all times while sitting on the jumpseat, when not in uniform. If not wearing a uniform, the dress code for jumpseat travel is business casual - no jeans or shorts. In addition, closed-toe, closed-heel shoes must be worn - no open toed shoes/sandals or sneakers.

Jumpseat riders must be present at the gate at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure for a domestic flight and 45 minutes prior for an international flight, or your jumpseat reservation will be subject to cancellation. Be sure to check in with the gate agent to establish the best time to board and check in with the crew. If you check luggage, an agent at the ticketing counter will check you in for the jumpseat. Note that agents are unable to tag your checked luggage onto a connecting flight.

Resources: Programs & Policies Handbook: Chapter 7 - Cabin Jumpseat:

Delta Flight Attendants may occupy the cabin jumpseat on certain Endeavor-operated flights. This should be a last resort option as there’s a lot of uncertainty with this type of travel. You can only occupy the cabin jumpseat on Endeavor’s CRJ-900 fleet. Therefore it’s important to check the operating aircraft. Listing for the jumpseat can only be done at the departing gate. The jumpseat will not be confirmed by the agent until 15 minutes prior to departure as prior to that time any active Endeavor Flight Attendant may take priority in the jumpseat. Check out this page on Deltanet for more information >

Flowback On Other Airlines

The flowback agreement allows Delta Flight Attendants to list themselves on a space-available basis on select US carriers. This program is free for domestic flights and although this agreement is great for those commuting, it may be used for leisure travel as well. At the time of this writing Delta Flight Attendants have access to the flowback program on the following airlines:

  • Air Wisconsin (United Express)
  • Alaska Airlines
  • Allegiant Airlines
  • American / Envoy Air (formerly American Eagle)
  • Frontier Airlines
  • Great Lakes Airlines
  • Horizon Air
  • Mesa Air Group
  • Piedmont Airlines
  • Spirit Airlines
  • Sun Country Airlines
  • United / United Express

Eligibility All current and active Delta Flight Attendants are eligible. Flight Attendants who are on furlough, leaves of absence, sick, OJI or who are retired are not eligible to use the flowback agreement.

Listing / Travel Procedures Procedures vary by airline. On Deltanet search “flowback” followed by the airline name for up-to-date information (example: “flowback Hawaiian”). Some airlines allow Flight Attendants to book international travel under the flowback agreement, however, local departure/arrival taxes do apply.

ZED / Interline on Other Airlines

Delta employees can take advantage of the ZED/Interline agreements for nonrevenue or reduced-rate travel of over 100 other airlines from around the world. Nonrevenue and reduced rate travel on other airlines is a great option for leisure travel.

This is 6 months from the first day of flight attendant initial training for most new hire Delta Flight Attendants. Children age 23 or older, Buddy Pass Riders, Nondependent Children, and Travel Companions are not eligible for ZED/Interline travel. Parents of Delta employees may enjoy this benefit but may be required to pay a higher fee than the Employee and their Spouse/Domestic Partner.

Listing / Travel Procedures All airlines Delta has a ZED agreement with can be found on myIDtravel. In order to list for a flight follow these instructions:

  • On Deltanet click on “Travelnet” at the top of the page.

  • If you find the flight of your liking, simply click on “Select” under the flight.
  • Click “Continue” to confirm

  • Economy Class vs Business Class Listing

All ZED/Interline travel is listed as Economy Class, with the only exemption Virgin Atlantic. Airlines may upgrade the employee to a higher class of service at their discretion, but this is not a common practice. Delta Employees and eligible pass riders will be listed in “Upper Class” on Virgin Atlantic-operated flights.

What to Know About the Delta SkyMiles Program — Including How to Earn Status and Redeem Miles

Here’s everything you need to know about Delta's loyalty program.

How to Earn Miles

Delta medallion status tiers, redeeming miles, mileage valuation, how to get the most out of your skymiles.

Courtesy of Delta

Delta Air Lines offers a frequent flier program called SkyMiles that's designed to reward loyal passengers with various benefits and privileges to enhance the travel experience.

Members of the SkyMiles program can earn miles through various activities, including booking flights with Delta and its partner airlines, as well as using co-branded credit cards. These miles, which never expire, can be redeemed for a variety of rewards, such as free flights, seat upgrades, and access to exclusive airport lounges.

The program also offers elite status tiers, including Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond Medallion, each providing additional perks like priority boarding, complimentary upgrades, and waived baggage fees.

Delta frequently offers promotions and bonuses to help members accumulate miles faster, making it easier for travelers to enjoy the program's benefits. Whether you're a frequent flier or an occasional traveler, here’s everything you need to know about the Delta SkyMiles program.

How to Sign Up

Signing up for Delta SkyMiles is a straightforward process that can be completed online through Delta's website. Visit the SkyMiles enrollment page and enter the requested personal information, including your name, contact details, and a valid email address.

Once the basic information is submitted, you’ll create a secure login and password for your SkyMiles account. Choose a strong password — your miles are essentially a form of currency, so you'll want to protect them. Additionally, you can opt-in to receive email updates and promotional offers from Delta.

After completing the enrollment, you’ll receive a unique SkyMiles number that you can use to earn and redeem miles. With a SkyMiles account activated, you’ll begin accumulating miles on Delta flights and participating partner airlines, so long as you attach that number to your bookings.

One of the primary ways to earn SkyMiles is by flying with Delta or one of its partner airlines, the majority of which are part of the SkyTeam alliance . When you book Delta-operated flights, you earn SkyMiles based on the base price of your ticket. Different elite status tiers earn varying bonus miles per dollar spent.

For example, as a general member, you earn five miles per dollar spent, while a Diamond Medallion member can earn up to 11 miles per dollar spent. These miles are accrued when you fly on Delta, SkyTeam alliance members, or other partner airlines.

Note that earning on SkyTeam alliance or partner airlines works slightly differently — miles are often granted based on a percentage of the distance flown, with a bonus for higher fare classes. For instance, a Silver Medallion member flying a round-trip business-class ticket on Air France from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport would earn 20,356 redeemable miles — 7,270 miles for the distance flown with the remaining miles a result of both a fare class and elite status bonus.

Credit Cards

Delta also offers co-branded credit cards in partnership with American Express. These cards provide numerous benefits, including earning SkyMiles with every purchase. Cardholders can earn bonus miles for spending on Delta flights and receive benefits like lounge access, priority boarding, and free checked bags.

The Delta credit card lineup includes options like the Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum, and Reserve cards, each with its own perks and annual fees. These cards often come with welcome bonuses, adding a significant number of miles to your account upon approval.

Delta made changes to the Skymiles program earlier this year after receiving backlash on some proposed adjustments, including lounge access.  "There's overcrowding at Delta Sky Clubs due to the success of their credit card partnerships," Gilbert Ott, director of partnerships at Point.me , tells T+L. "This is being worked on daily, and the new clubs are actually so nice now that they're worth going to."

Other Ways to Earn

  • Transfer Points: You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points directly to Delta at a 1:1 ratio, though this is generally not recommended due to differences in point valuations.
  • Shopping Portals: Delta has an online shopping portal where you can earn SkyMiles for everyday purchases. By shopping through the portal with affiliated merchants, you can accumulate miles. The miles earned vary depending on the merchant and ongoing bonus offers.
  • Dining Programs: Delta's SkyMiles dining program allows you to earn miles when you dine at participating restaurants. You can earn additional miles by linking your credit card to your SkyMiles account and dining at eligible establishments.
  • Promotions and Partnerships: Keep an eye out for special promotions and partnerships offered by Delta, which can provide opportunities to earn bonus miles. These can include promotions with hotel chains and car rental companies.
  • Flying with Partner Airlines: Delta is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, and you can earn and redeem miles when flying with SkyTeam partner airlines. Additionally, Delta has partnerships with non-alliance airlines like Hawaiian Airlines and WestJet, providing more opportunities to earn miles.

Each Delta Medallion status tier offers progressively more benefits and privileges. The airline’s status tiers are subject to annual qualification requirements — historically a certain amount of flying plus a certain dollar spend. Starting in 2024, status will be determined only by dollar spend. Achieving higher tiers brings additional perks, such as complimentary upgrades, priority services, and bonus miles earned per dollar spent.

Delta's loyalty program underwent significant changes in 2023 that were largely poorly received by its elites. Though Delta rolled back some of those changes, additional ones will likely be announced in 2024. So if you’re gunning for status, stay up-to-date via Delta's website on the specific requirements and benefits for each status tier.

You can redeem miles for free flights, though you'll still have to pay taxes and fees. In terms of how many miles you'll need to redeem for a free flight, that varies. Delta no longer publishes award charts, but instead uses dynamic pricing for award tickets. That means the number of miles required for redemption will vary based on factors like the route, date, and cabin class. There is an upside here — passengers have the ability to use points on most days with few blackout dates, points out Ott. “There's almost always a points price, rather than binary yes or no, and upgrades are simple to process using points in the app," he says. "The price may not be ideal, but it's usually there.”

SkyMiles award tickets are fully refundable, allowing you to redeposit the miles and receive a refund of the taxes and fees if your plans change. You can also rebook an award ticket if the mileage price drops, and you’ll receive a refund of the difference in miles. Delta also offers eligible co-branded credit cardholders a 15 percent discount on award tickets for Delta-operated flights.

You can sometimes use SkyMiles to upgrade to a higher cabin class, such as Main Cabin to Comfort+ or even Delta One. These upgrades will be presented to you in the app or on the website. Complimentary upgrades are also available for elite members, with priority based on your Medallion status.

Partner Airline Redemptions

Delta is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, allowing you to redeem SkyMiles for flights on SkyTeam partner airlines, including Air France, KLM, and Korean Air. You can also redeem SkyMiles for flights on non-alliance partner airlines, such as Hawaiian Airlines and WestJet. Partner award ticket pricing is subject to dynamic pricing, and the exact number of miles needed varies based on partner, booking class, and other factors. You'll have to redeem the miles through Delta's website, not the partner airline's website.

Other Ways to Redeem Miles

In addition to flights, you can use SkyMiles for other redemption options, such as:

  • Hotel stays
  • Car rentals
  • Delta Vacations packages
  • Delta Sky Club access
  • Delta gift cards

The value of SkyMiles varies depending on the specific redemption. On average, SkyMiles are valued at around 1.2 cents per mile, but this can change due to dynamic pricing. The exact value of your miles depends on the route and cabin class.

Delta frequently runs SkyMiles flash sales, offering discounted award flights to various destinations, which can boost the value of your miles. Some sweet spots include short-haul domestic flights, where you can sometimes book for under 4,000 SkyMiles one-way with the co-branded credit card discount.

Stay informed about promotions.

Watch for Delta's frequent promotions, flash sales, and bonus mile offers. These can provide excellent opportunities to maximize the value of your SkyMiles.

Use co-branded credit cards.

Consider applying for one of Delta's co-branded credit cards, such as the Gold, Platinum, or Reserve cards from American Express. These cards offer benefits like priority boarding, free checked bags, and earning bonus miles on everyday purchases.

Unlimited Flight Pass 2023 Delta Airlines: Everything You Need To Know: Everything You Need To Know

delta worldwide pass travel privileges

Let’s talk about the unlimited Flight Pass 2023 Delta Airlines. This enticing new ticket option allows travelers to take an unlimited number of flights to any Delta destination worldwide, opening the doors to unlimited adventure.

If you’re short on time, here’s a quick answer to your question: Currently, Delta does not offer unlimited flight passes. However, it regularly updates and revises its offerings, such as promotional deals, loyalty programs, and different types of tickets, depending on the market and customer preferences. Multi-trip passes, flight subscriptions, and frequent flyer programs are all examples of offerings.

What Is Unlimited Flight Pass?

The Unlimited Flight Pass is a unique offering in some Airlines that allows passengers to enjoy unlimited flights within a specified period of time. This pass provides travelers with the flexibility to fly as often as they want, to any destination within the airline’s network, without having to worry about the cost of individual tickets.

How Does the Unlimited Flight Pass Work?

The Unlimited Flight Pass works on a subscription model, where customers pay a fixed fee upfront for unlimited flights during the specified period. Passengers can choose from various options, such as monthly or annual passes, depending on their travel needs.

Once the pass is purchased, passengers can book flights through the airline’s website or mobile app, just like they would with a regular ticket. The pass covers the cost of the flight itself, but additional fees such as taxes, baggage fees, and seat selection may still apply.

Benefits of the Unlimited Flight Pass

The Unlimited Flight Pass offers several benefits for frequent travelers. Here are some key advantages:

  • Cost savings: The pass allows travelers to save money compared to purchasing individual tickets for each flight.
  • Flexibility: Pass holders have the freedom to book flights without worrying about the cost, making it easier to plan multiple trips or spontaneous getaways.
  • Convenience: With unlimited flights, passengers can easily change their travel plans or explore new destinations without any additional expense.
  • Premium experience: Pass holders may also enjoy other perks such as priority boarding, access to airport lounges, and other exclusive privileges depending on the pass type.

Things to Consider

While the Unlimited Flight Pass offers great benefits, there are a few things to consider before purchasing:

  • Availability: The pass may have limited availability and may only be offered to a certain number of customers.
  • Blackout dates and restrictions: Some passes may have blackout dates or certain restrictions, so it’s important to review the terms and conditions before purchasing.
  • Travel patterns: It’s essential to evaluate your travel patterns and determine if the pass aligns with your travel needs. If you don’t plan to fly frequently, the pass may not be worth the investment.

For more information about Delta’s Unlimited Flight Pass for 2023, you can visit their official website here .

How Much Does 2023 Unlimited Pass Cost?

The Unlimited Flight Pass offers travelers the opportunity to fly as much as they want within a specified time period. It’s a great option for frequent flyers or those who have a busy travel schedule. But how much does this pass actually cost? Let’s dive into the details.

Price Options

Airlines offer different price options for their Unlimited Flight Pass , allowing travelers to choose the one that best suits their needs. The prices may vary depending on factors such as the duration of the pass and the type of flights included (domestic or international).

Whether you’re a business traveler who frequently flies between major cities or a leisure traveler who enjoys exploring different destinations, there is a pricing plan that fits your needs.

The cost of Unlimited Flight Pass is determined based on factors such as the number of flights you plan to take, the duration of your pass, and the type of flights (domestic or international).

It’s important to note that prices are subject to change, so it’s always a good idea to check a specific airline’s official website for the most up-to-date pricing information.

Value for Money

Here’s Delta’s Internal Program To Convince Employees To Leave

by Gary Leff on May 28, 2020

American had planned to notify non-union workers today of their options to leave voluntarily, along with what an involuntary separation would look like as they push to shed at least 30% of these staff.

Delta also shared their offer today as well. Here’s what the Atlanta-based carrier offered to employees, and how they pitched it. First, a memo from CEO Ed Bastian, explaining their need to also cut about 30% of staff.

Employees with more than 25 years at Delta are being offered a retirement package, while most employees are being offered a voluntary ‘early out’ that should be more attractive than being let go when CARES Act restrictions lift. (Pilots are unionized and so there’s more to work through there, an offer should be made to them next week.)

To: Delta Colleagues Worldwide

From: Ed Bastian, CEO

Subject: Protecting Our Jobs and Our Future

The summer travel season has officially begun, and it will be a season like none other in Delta’s history. While we’ve seen some small but welcome increases in our passenger volume, our expectation that the pandemic will have a meaningful effect on air travel and our business has only deepened. It will likely be two to three years before we see demand recovery on a large scale.

During that time, Delta will have to be a smaller airline as we adjust to reduced demand and the need for distancing and safety during travel. A smaller Delta unfortunately means fewer people will be required. The payroll protection we received under the CARES Act allowed us to commit to no involuntary furloughs through the end of September. As I mentioned in my memo last week, furloughs are a last resort, and it is our top priority to avoid them if at all possible.

Tomorrow morning, we will be announcing the details of two voluntary programs that provide the options many Delta people have asked for, while also allowing us to become a temporarily smaller airline and protect jobs. One is an enhanced retirement package for long-term employees who are nearing retirement age or have more than 25 years of service. The other is a voluntary opt-out package that covers most of Delta’s eligible employees.

We are in discussions with the pilots’ elected representatives regarding a similar early retirement plan for our pilots, and expect to offer the plan details over the next week.

Both programs have generous benefits that you told us are most important, including cash severance, fully paid healthcare coverage, and enhanced travel benefits that include positive space passes. The details of each package will be available on Deltanet, and you’ll be receiving emails as well with more information. The election window opens June 10, with most retirements on Aug. 1.

I urge everyone to read the information and consider whether a voluntary departure from Delta makes sense for you and your family. While we never dreamed just a few months ago that we would be talking about a smaller Delta – this was expected to be a year of growth, after all – this is the reality we’re facing. Every voluntary departure helps to protect the jobs of those who most need them.

I can’t emphasize enough how challenging the environment is, and will be for the foreseeable future. Earlier this week, our partner LATAM became the latest airline to file for bankruptcy. While it was disappointing to see, none of the Latin American countries LATAM operates in was prepared to provide them government financial support to this point – which necessitated the decision to file. We have the utmost confidence in the LATAM team, and remain firmly committed to our partnership, which will be important when we rebuild our international network in the recovery.

When I’m out traveling, or taking your questions during our virtual Town Halls, I’m often asked for specifics about how small Delta will need to be over the next couple of years. The fact is, right now we simply don’t know. We’re working to expand job functions and have been bringing in work that had previously been performed by vendors, but ultimately, we will have a work force commensurate with the demand for flying. The only thing we can be sure of today is that the more people choose to depart voluntarily, the greater our chances for avoiding furloughs this fall.

I continue to be inspired and heartened by the incredible number of you who raised your hand and volunteered to take short-term unpaid leaves. More than 40,000 have sacrificed to help Delta navigate the early months of the crisis, and the entire Delta family owes you a debt of gratitude.

Even in the age of social distancing, the human connection that Delta people provide to our customers is making a huge difference. Just consider this short but appreciative feedback we received from one customer recently:

“Delta is innately in tune with the customers’ need and desire for safe and comfortable travel. Extreme care and consideration emotes through both pilot and flight attendant announcements. Flying Delta is a wonderful experience.”

I am prouder than ever before to be part of the Delta family. Thank you for your passion, your professionalism and your dedication. I’ll be in touch soon with another update.

Here are details of the offers, along with a Q&A, from Delta HR:

5 things to know about the 2020 Delta Voluntary Departure Programs Published Date 5/28/2020 8:05 AM

By HR Communications staff

Two new voluntary programs were announced today: the Enhanced Retirement Program and the Voluntary Opt-Out Program. These programs were designed with Delta people in mind, providing benefits you’ve asked for and enhancements to better support you as you consider your next chapter.

Here are five things to know about these voluntary programs:

1. Employees electing to participate in either program receive a cash severance payment.

Transitioning from Delta to the next chapter in your life is a significant step and we understand that finances play a big role in your decision. For employees who elect to participate in either program, Delta will offer a generous lump sum cash severance payment. The amount you receive is based on your completed years of consecutive service as of Dec. 31, 2020, and weekly pay rate as of April 1, 2020. Visit Self-Service to see your personalized statement.

2. Both programs offer continued healthcare support.

For both programs Delta will pay medical, dental and vision premiums for a period of time for employees eligible for Delta healthcare coverage – up to 12 months for the Voluntary Opt-Out Program and up to 24 months for the Enhanced Retirement Program. In addition, Enhanced Retirement Program participants will receive a Retiree Medical Account of at least $100,000 that can be used to reimburse eligible healthcare expenses in retirement. These RMA values can be used to cover continued Delta coverage (COBRA or retiree medical), Medicare premiums or out-of-pocket costs.

3. Both programs offer eligible employees active pass travel for one year after separation.

The 2020 Delta Voluntary Departure Programs provide active travel priority for one (1) full year after separation, including S2s. Once that year is over, those who elect the Enhanced Retirement Program, as well as Voluntary Opt-Out Program participants with at least 10 consecutive years of service and combined age and service equaling 55 points as of Dec. 31, 2020, will qualify for standard retiree pass travel privileges, including the new annual allotment of six (6) S3A flight days per PPR member per year – Delta’s enhanced retiree travel standby priority. Other Voluntary Opt-Out participants will have a maximum of 10 years of continued S3B Yield Fare travel.

4. Employees electing to participate in either program receive positive space passes.

Those electing to participate in the Enhanced Retirement Program receive eight (8) positive space passes in total to be shared among their PPR members. Participants in the Voluntary Opt-Out program will receive two (2) Delta Departure positive space passes. These passes are round trip and have no expiration date. You can use them to fly anywhere Delta flies. Like Delta Spirit Passes and Delta Difference Passes, these passes are available for upgrades on a standby basis.

5. Most U.S. based Delta employees are eligible.

Ground, flight attendant and merit employees on active payroll status at least one day from Nov. 27, 2019, to June 9, 2020, are eligible for one of the two programs. Employees eligible for the Enhanced Retirement program must meet the following requirements:

· Employees eligible to retire (52 or older with 10 or more years of service)

· Or 25 years of service regardless of age or with at least 10 years of consecutive service and age + years of consecutive service totaling 70 or more “points”

You’ll have a variety of tools to help evaluate the right decision for you and your family, including the Alex tool, available in June, to help walk you through program details and considerations. Employees considering retirement can also connect with a Fidelity representative for one-on-one discussions. These representatives are educated and trained on the details of the programs to help you better evaluate the decision that’s right for you.

If you are eligible for Medicare (age 65), or are about to be, take advantage of the UnitedHealthcare Medicare Concierge. These UHC plan advisors are knowledgeable of the Enhanced Retirement Program details and can help explain your options, how Medicare works and more.

Additionally, the 2020 Delta Voluntary Departure Programs Resource Hub provides quick access to program details, FAQs and access to submit a question via the new Ask HR tool. Eligible employees can also join the conversation and participate in weekly town halls and learning sessions in our dedicated 2020 Delta Voluntary Departure Programs group on SkyHub.

And don’t forget, you can review your personalized eligibility statement in Self-Service. Full program details will also be mailed to eligible employees before election window opens on June 10.

delta worldwide pass travel privileges

It’s sad that it’s come to this. Delta’s projections for a smaller workforce are in line with those of United and American. In the end I wouldn’t be surprised to see more employees let go by one or more of those airlines beyond what’s been outlined so far.

I have to say that Bastian’s memo is about as well written as one of these things can be. Gave the facts, expressed his sorrow at being force to downsize and gave what seems to be an excellent explanation of the options being offered.

Sad to see, but I guess giving the tenured employees an option is better than pushing them out the door.

I’d say he’s doing it about as right as can be done. Better than the jackwads running AA, BA and UA.

Outstanding memo. He articulated everything quite well.

Having gone through 3 layoffs in the tech world this is a really good and charitable offering from an employer. If I were in retirement consideration at DL I’d jump on this

My question is when will the funds be payed out.

How Airline Employees and Their Families Fly Free

delta worldwide pass travel privileges

If you know somebody who works for an airline, you've probably heard them talking about their flight benefits. One of the perks of working for an airline is "free" travel to anywhere that carrier or its partners fly, but there are plenty of conditions.

Traveling for Free as an Airline Employee

The most important point to clear up is that airline employees do pay for their travel unless they are commuting for work. Even though they may not be responsible for covering the airfare that you would normally pay to fly, they are responsible for paying the taxes and fees on their tickets.

Airline employees traveling for pleasure are referred to as "non-revenue passengers." In other words, the carrier isn't making any money off them, so they're prioritized below the lowest paying revenue passenger (including those traveling on award tickets). Most airline employees also fly standby, so they won't know if they're going to make it on a flight until after everyone else has made it on board. With unpopular routes, there shouldn't be any trouble, but if they're traveling on international flights to cities that the airline only serves once each day, and the flight is full, they'll have to try again. If they have prepaid accommodations or tours, standby travel can actually end up being very costly.

Even with their benefits, the taxes and fees alone—which include security fees, international fees, and fuel surcharges—can total hundreds of dollars on an international itinerary. And while their total travel costs are lower most of the time, they hardly get to fly for free.

The good news for employees is that in certain situations, any seat may be up for grabs. If there's a first class or business class seat that hasn't been sold, they may end up getting to sit there for the same "price" as traveling in economy, or for a little extra. Of course, there's no guarantee, and even passengers using upgrade certificates or miles to move up to the next cabin have a higher priority.

Discount Travel for Friends and Family of Airline Employees

Sometimes friends and family can get in on the "non-revenue passenger" travel. Each airline has different policies and procedures for an employee's "non-revenue" guest, ranging from buddy passes to full-out booking options. Here are the policies of four major airlines in the U.S.

American Airlines Buddy Pass Policies

Qualified American Airlines employees are allowed to fly for free, along with their registered guests and companions. Retirees who pass the "65-point plan" (a minimum of 10 years of active service, and the retiree's age plus years of service must equal or exceed 65) also qualify for "non-revenue" travel. Those who wish to travel business class or above must pay an additional fee, based on their itinerary. Fees for premium domestic travel inside the United States are based on distance, while international premium cabin travel is a flat fee based on the destination.

What about friends or companions that aren't parents, spouses, or children? Qualifying American Airlines employees are allocated a certain number of "buddy passes" each year. Buddy pass travelers receive lower boarding priority than American employees on vacation, other employees and eligible travelers, retirees and parents.

Lastly, American Airlines employees can opt to buy full price tickets, to which a 20 percent employee discount is applied; this ensures an assigned seat and is considered a full fare ticket.

Delta Buddy Pass Policies

Much like American, Delta employees get to extend their travel privileges to friends and family. However, how it applies is a different policy than their Dallas-based counterpart.

After successfully working for Delta for 30 days, employees are allowed to use their free travel benefits to see the world. Additionally, spouses, minor-dependent children up to 19 years old (or 23 for full-time students) and parents may also receive reduced-rate travel. That doesn't extend to everyone: non-dependent children, travel companions, extended families, and guests are only eligible for reduced-rate travel.

When flying on a Delta buddy pass or as part of an airline program, everyone is boarded on a standby basis. If there is room available after all other passengers have been accounted for, then the benefit flyers can board. According to the employee benefit page, domestic flights are "free" but travels to international destinations are subject to government and airport fees.

Southwest Airlines Buddy Pass Policies

Even though it's open seating, Southwest Airlines passengers are allowed to snag open seats on flights as part of their benefits package.

Employees receive free, unlimited travel privileges and can offer their Southwest travel benefits to their eligible dependents: spouses or committed registered partner, eligible dependent children 19 or younger (24 if they are full-time students), and parents. While Southwest has agreements with other airlines for benefits, traveling "non-revenue" is not always a free experience, as fees can apply based on the carrier and destination.

Southwest employees also have the benefits of "SWAG Points." When employees are recognized for their good work or take part in incentive programs, they can earn points that can be exchanged for buddy passes, frequent flyer points, or event tickets.

United Airlines Buddy Pass Policies

At United, employees still get to hand out buddy passes to their friends and family, but the scope is very limited. According to the airline, employees and their families may receive travel privileges which include discounted rates and unlimited standby travel.

What does the program actually look like? A bulletin from the Association of Flight Attendants outlines the program in detail. Employees must select their friends eligible for "non-revenue" travel in December for the next year. After the deadline passes, no friends can be added to their list. Employees can also elect to receive 12 buddy passes every year to distribute among friends.

What kind of pass also matters at United. Enrolled friends traveling with the employee, retiree, or their spouse are given the highest boarding priority, while those flying alone on a buddy pass are given the lowest priority.

What to Know About Buddy Pass Travel

Friends of airline employees get to fly for a cheap price if room is available—sounds like a good deal, right? Unfortunately, it's not as easy as having your airline employed friend book a ticket, passing the TSA checkpoint , and going on vacation.

As noted above, flyers on a buddy pass are the lowest passengers on the standby list. If their flight is just about full, there's a good chance they won't make it on board. Buddy pass passengers are usually only permitted to fly in coach, but the policies vary by airline.

In addition, buddy pass flyers are considered representatives of the airline, no matter how old they are. As a result, they must adhere to a strict dress code, which often includes business-casual dress standards. If they do not meet these strict criteria, they may be denied boarding with no sources of repayment.

The Worst Times to Fly as a Non-Revenue Passenger

Using free or buddy pass travel is a terrible idea during peak times, such as:

  • The Sunday after Thanksgiving
  • Holiday weeks (Christmas week, Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.)
  • Any time that there's inclement weather , like the winter months

If a flight is canceled, all of the displaced passengers will be accommodated on the next scheduled flight. If it's full, they'll end up on the standby list above non-revenue passengers. As an example: If a plane that holds 250 passengers isn't permitted to fly, that could mean 250 people ahead of you on the list (although that's an extreme example).

"Non-revenue" travel can be quite rewarding, but it's important to remember that you may end up not flying that day, or you could be stranded in a city that you weren't planning to visit. If that happens, you're on the hook for meals and hotel rooms—the airline won't help at all. Before you ask your friend for help and try your hand as a "non-revenue" flyer, be sure to weigh the pros and cons of every situation. In some situations, it may be cheaper to pay for your ticket instead of flying on a buddy pass.

Simple Flying

Delta thanks employees with two free travel passes each.

Every Delta Air Lines employee is getting a sweet Christmas bonus, in the shape of two flight passes to anywhere in the world. All staff members are getting a pair of tickets each, even those who are on leave from the airline at the present time. CEO Ed Bastian said the offer is a thank you for all the efforts employees have put in during the COVID pandemic.

Free flights anywhere in the world

Delta Air Lines wants to make 2020 a year to remember for its employees, and for better reasons that might have been expected. While the airline has struggled with sizeable losses, it wants to thank its employees for all their efforts during the COVID pandemic. As a thank you to staff, the airline is offering every single person two tickets to fly anywhere in the world.

The generous gift was revealed in a memo obtained by Fox News today, in which Delta’s CEO Ed Bastian stated,

"I hope these passes will help with your own healing as we move into the future, whether it’s to connect with family, experience a brand-new part of the world, or embark on an adventure with a loved one."

The flight passes, called the ‘Delta Difference’ passes, will be extended to all employees of the airline, including those who are on leave from the company . They will be valid for travel anywhere, either domestic or international, and have no expiration date, meaning staff can hold on to them until they feel comfortable to travel again.

But don’t Delta employees get free flight perks anyway?

Some might argue that this is a regular perk of the job for Delta staff, but the Delta Difference passes are a whole step better. Delta employees can access free flight benefits on a select range of flights, and discounted fares on others. However, these are ‘standby’ flights, or ‘non-revenue’ travel, which means they will only get a seat if one is still free once all paying passengers have boarded.

The Delta Difference pass is more like a pre-paid ticket. It is what’s known as a ‘positive space’ pass, so employees will be able to book a specific seat on a specific flight, with no concerns about not getting on the plane. That lends a valuable level of creditability to the offer by Bastian. The CEO told his workers,

"Those of you who have worked consistently throughout the crisis have done so under conditions that were unimaginable a year ago, and you still provide the best service and professionalism in the industry."

While a travel-hungry Delta worker might be tempted to go as far as possible with these free tickets, somewhere like Cape Town or Shanghai , for instance, these very long-haul flights are typically the easiest to get non-revenue spaces onboard. An experienced flier will be more likely to cash in this perk for domestic travel during peak periods, such as Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Either way, it’s a generous offer from the airline boss, particularly given its current challenges. And with the middle seat blocked until the spring next year, they can even guarantee a whole group of three seats to themselves.

Delta Platinum vs. Delta Reserve: Which is better for frequent Delta travelers?

Travelers who like flying Delta Air Lines and its partners can gain SkyMiles rewards, flight benefits, and more with a co-branded Delta card from American Express.

Among these cards, the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card and Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card offer the longest list of potential benefits — but they also carry the highest price tags.

Before you take your next trip with Delta, use this guide to help you decide whether one of these rewards cards is right for you.

Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card Overview

Here are more details you should know about the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Amex card:

This card has a $350 annual fee (see rates and fees) .

Welcome offer

You can earn 50,000 bonus SkyMiles with your Delta Platinum card when you spend $3,000 within the first six months of account opening.

This card offers a combination of rewards on Delta spending and everyday purchases:

3x miles on Delta purchases

3x miles on hotel purchases (made directly with hotels)

2x miles on dining (including U.S. takeout and delivery)

2x miles at U.S. supermarkets

1x miles on all other purchases

The Delta Platinum card has many added benefits, good for travel and at home. We’ll go through them all, first looking at travel benefits specific to Delta and then general perks.

Delta benefits:

One annual companion ticket for Main Cabin on a domestic, Caribbean, or Central American round-trip flight (not including taxes and fees)

15% discount when you use miles to book flights through Delta

$2,500 Medallion Qualifying Dollars (MQDs) each Medallion Qualification year as a head start toward Delta Medallion status

$1 MQD toward Medallion status for every $20 you spend with your card

Up to a $150 annual statement credit for prepaid hotel and vacation rental bookings through Delta Stays

First checked bag free

20% back as statement credits on in-flight purchases

Complimentary upgrade list access, even for non-Medallion members

Other benefits:

Up to $10 per month ($120 per year) in statement credits for eligible U.S. Resy restaurant purchases

Up to $10 per month ($120 per year) in statement credits for select U.S. rideshare purchases

Fee credit every four years for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry (earned as a statement credit after you pay the fee with your card)

Complimentary Hertz Five Star status (with enrollment)

Travel and purchase protections

Why we like it

We like the Delta SkyMiles Platinum card from Amex for its blend of premium airline benefits and everyday savings.

If you’re looking to earn miles toward Delta flights, this card can help you maximize your spending no matter where you are. The card’s benefits offer a similar flexibility. While there are plenty of ways to save using the Delta Platinum card when you fly, annual credits for Resy and rideshares can offer up to $240 in annual value even when you’re not traveling.

Finally, the annual companion certificate makes this card great for families, couples, or anyone who often flies with loved ones. This isn’t the most common benefit among other co-branded airline cards, and it holds a ton of potential value. Despite the Delta Platinum card’s relatively steep annual fee, this perk alone can go a long way toward making up the cost.

Delta SkyMiles Platinum perks

Companion certificate: Depending on how you use it, this card’s companion certificate benefit could be valuable enough to offset the annual fee on its own. If you have a partner, friend, or family member you fly with, this is a great way to save on yearly travel expenses.

Everyday and travel rewards: Despite being a co-branded airline travel credit card , the Delta Platinum is pretty flexible when it comes to earning rewards. You’ll get bonus miles on hotels as well as dining out and shopping at supermarkets in the U.S., making this card a solid choice for both frequent travelers and those who only fly a few times each year.

Delta SkyMiles Platinum potential drawbacks

Not as much value for non-Delta travelers: This card is most valuable for people who like flying with Delta Air Lines and its partners. If you don’t fly often or you’d rather find a great deal without sticking to a single airline, there are other card options with more flexibility for earning and redeeming travel rewards.

High annual fee: While it does have the lower fee between these two cards, Delta Platinum’s $350 annual fee is still steep. If you’re not a Delta regular who’s able to take advantage of all the travel-related benefits this card offers, you may find another card offers better value for the price.

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card Overview

The Delta SkyMiles Reserve Amex Card is the most premium between these co-branded credit cards. Here’s everything it offers frequent Delta travelers:

You’ll pay $650 annually for the Delta Reserve — putting it among the most costly travel cards available today (see rates and fees) .

With the Delta Reserve card welcome offer, you can earn 60,000 bonus miles after you spend at least $5,000 in purchases within the first six months.

You’ll only earn bonus rewards on Delta spending with this card, though you’ll still get the baseline 1 mile per dollar spent elsewhere.

Just like the Delta Platinum card, the Delta Reserve has a long list of added benefits. Here, we’ve broken them down by benefits you’ll get when traveling with Delta and other perks the card offers.

Complimentary access to Delta Sky Clubs (15 visits per year starting on Feb. 1, 2025, though you may earn unlimited visits through spending and purchase additional visits)

Four one-time Delta Sky Club guest passes per year for family and friends

Access to The Centurion Lounge when you purchase your flight with your Delta Reserve

Annual companion certificate: One annual companion ticket for Main Cabin, Delta Comfort+, or First Class on a domestic, Caribbean, or Central American round-trip flight (not including taxes and fees)

Medallion Qualifying Dollar boost: $1 MQD toward Medallion status for every $10 you spend with your card

Up to a $200 annual statement credit for prepaid hotel and vacation rental bookings through Delta Stays

Upgrade priority over other Medallion members (within the same Medallion level and ticket fare class as you)

Up to $20 per month ($240 per year) in statement credits for eligible U.S. Resy restaurant purchases

Complimentary Hertz President’s Circle status (with enrollment)

Concierge service

We like the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Amex for the major value it offers frequent Delta travelers. It won’t appeal to everyone, in part thanks to the very high annual fee. But for loyal Delta customers, it has enormous potential value.

To start, the 60,000-mile welcome offer can save you a lot of money on future Delta travel. Delta has dynamic pricing for award flights, so there’s no standard value for each SkyMile — but 60,000 miles can surely go a long way toward your next travel booking. Plus, the 15% discount on award flights you book with miles can stretch that bonus even further.

On top of that, you’ll get airport lounge access, faster paths to Medallion status, discounts, and the annual companion certificate that applies to not only Main Cabin but Comfort+ or First Class fares, too.

Delta SkyMiles Reserve perks

Welcome offer: If the $5,000 spending requirement is in your budget over the first six months you have this card, you’ll get a lot of value from the welcome offer of 60,000 bonus points. You can get hundreds of dollars toward Delta flights with this welcome offer.

Airport lounge access: With access to both Delta Sky Clubs and The Centurion Lounge using your Delta Reserve, you’ll save a lot of money if you’re a frequent flyer who prefers to spend your preflight time eating and relaxing at airport lounges. Plus, get even more value with guest passes for those traveling with you.

Delta SkyMiles Reserve potential drawbacks

No everyday rewards categories: The only bonus rewards you’ll earn with this card are on purchases you make with Delta; everything else earns just 1 mile per dollar. If you’re looking to maximize your everyday spending, you may want to consider a different rewards credit card .

Not as flexible as other premium rewards cards: Only a few premium travel cards today carry as high an annual fee as the $650 Delta Reserve. But some of those other premium card options have more flexible rewards programs and bonus categories. If you’re looking for a card that can help you earn points or miles to redeem for non-Delta travel, this may not be the best pick.

Should you get the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Amex?

You should have a preference for flying Delta if you’re considering the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card — and given the $350 price tag, you should fly at least a few times each year to get the maximum benefit.

One big reason to get the Platinum Delta card if you’re deciding between these two is the added value you’ll get on your regular spending. The 2x miles you’ll earn on dining and groceries, for example, can continually boost your SkyMiles balance over time.

For example, let’s say you spend about $5,000 per year flying with Delta, but your budget for dining out and grocery shopping is a combined $15,000 annually. With this card, you could earn 15,000 bonus miles and 30,000 bonus miles, respectively, on that spending. Ultimately, your regular food budget would result in many more miles earned per year than Delta spending alone.

Should you get the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Amex?

If you’re thinking about the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card , you should both prefer flying Delta and do so regularly. This card is best suited for loyal Delta customers who want a premium experience when they fly.

That’s because so many of this card’s perks are designed to make your Delta travels more comfortable and efficient. Among all of the Delta co-branded cards, the Reserve is the best option for securing Medallion status, which can get you upgraded seats, priority boarding, and more when you fly. Access to airport lounges will most benefit travelers who tend to arrive for flights early and want the space to relax away from bustling airport gates. And while both cards offer an annual companion certificate, only the Reserve expands booking options to Comfort+ and First Class.

If you prioritize flying Delta and want your card to help you gain access to the most premium travel experiences — even if it comes at a premium cost — Delta Reserve is the option to consider.

Should you get both cards?

You don’t need both of these cards in your wallet. They have many overlapping benefits and rewards categories, and you won’t want to pay both annual fees for the limited differences between these cards.

Instead, consider which one may serve you best based on your individual spending habits and how you prefer to travel with Delta. For example, if you like airport lounge access and upgrades, you’ll be better off with the Reserve. But if you don’t mind flying Main Cabin and tend to arrive at the airport shortly before boarding, you’ll probably get more use out of the Platinum Delta card.

Other cards to consider

Here are a few more travel credit card options we like:, american express® gold card.

Why we like it: The Gold Card from American Express has a lot of everyday benefits that you can use toward future travel — and though it earns Membership Rewards points , you can transfer your points to Delta SkyMiles at a 1:1 ratio. This card has a $250 annual fee (see rates and fees) and a welcome offer of 60,000 bonus points when you spend $6,000 within the first six months.

Amex Gold earns 4x points at restaurants and U.S. supermarkets, 3x points on flights booked with airlines or through Amex Travel, and 1x on everything else. Plus, you’ll get benefits to help offset the annual fee, including up to $120 Uber Cash each year ($10 per month) and up to $120 dining credit (up to $10 per month in statement credits) when you make purchases with Grubhub, Goldbelly, Wine.com, or at The Cheesecake Factory, Milk Bar and select Shake Shack locations.

Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card

Why we like it: If you’re a loyal Delta traveler but don’t want to shell out for the annual fee costs of the Delta Platinum or Delta Reserve, the Delta SkyMiles Gold Amex may be a better choice. For $150 annually (waived the first year; see rates and fees ), you’ll earn 2x miles on Delta purchases, dining, and at U.S. supermarkets. Everything else earns 1 mile per dollar, and the welcome offer is worth 40,000 bonus miles after spending $2,000 within the first six months.

Benefits include a $200 Delta flight credit when you spend $10,000 with your card in a calendar year, a 15% discount on award flights booked with SkyMiles, priority boarding, a $100 credit for prepaid hotels or vacation rentals through Delta Stays, and more.

Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

Why we like it: If airport lounge access and travel rewards are your top priority in a premium travel card, the $395 Venture X may be a good option. It has a welcome offer of 75,000 Capital One Miles when you spend at least $4,000 within the first three months. Rewards include 10x miles on hotels and rental cars through Capital One Travel, 5x on flights through Capital One Travel, and a flat 2x miles on everything else.

To help cover the annual fee, you’ll get a $300 annual travel credit to use on Capital One Travel bookings, as well as 10,000 bonus miles each year on your account anniversary. Plus, airport lounge access includes both Capital One Lounges and Priority Pass and Plaza Premium Group partner lounge networks.
