FAQs About Disney’s Jungle Cruise Ride at Magic Kingdom

One of the most popular rides at Magic Kingdom is the Jungle Cruise ride. But you may have questions like I did the first time I rode it in a while. How long is it? Do you get wet on the Jungle Cruise ride? And more. Here’s my list of popular FAQs about Disney’s Jungle Cruise Ride at Magic Kingdom and answers to each of them!

The Jungle Cruise ride is very popular. In fact, there can be very long lines to get on the ride as the day continues.

One of the best pieces of advice I have is to arrive early. Head straight to this ride before tackling the rest of the park if you don’t want to stand in line. That’s what we did, and we walked straight on the ride. When looking at wait times about an hour later (and again throughout the day), we were really glad we did it first! The wait was an hour long throughout most of the day.

Today, let’s dive into some of the most frequently asked questions about the Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom!

What is Disney’s Jungle Cruise Ride?

A longstanding Disney World water boat ride through the pretend waters of the Congo, the Jungle Cruise ride is a popular one for adults and kids alike!

Fake animals on the shore on the jungle cruise ride at Magic Kingdom

Visitors will pass thick fauna, lifelike elephants, monkeys, lions, zebras, and rhinos, a waterfall, and even a plane crash in this trek through the jungle. There is even an ancient temple the cruise will navigate through.

Of course, it’s nothing like being in a real jungle like we experienced in Costa Rica , but it’s also not nearly as dangerous! Haha!

Personally, I love the skippers’ tales most of all! They keep me laughing by saying things like “That’s how I landed this job” as we passed a plane crash or “The world’s most impressive waterfall” as we passed one about 8 feet tall. Corny dad jokes are always a riot!

Where is the Jungle Cruise in Magic Kingdom?

Disney’s Jungle Cruise ride is located in Adventureland in Magic Kingdom. After heading down Main Street and past Plaza Ice Cream Parlor with the castle straight ahead, veer to the left to enter Adventure Land. Pass Sunshine Tree Terrace and the Swiss Family Treehouse. The Jungle Cruise ride will be on the left across from Skipper’s Canteen .

How Long Is The Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom?

The Jungle Cruise ride is about 10-15 minutes long.

While it’s a wonderful ride, I don’t suggest spending too much time in line waiting for a ride that will be over that quickly.

Do You Get Wet on the Jungle Cruise Ride?

One of my biggest questions boarding Disney’s Jungle Cruise after several years was “Do you get wet?”. I couldn’t remember. And we had just arrived at the park, so I was not ready to be drenched!

Fake elephants spraying water on the jungle cruise at Magic Kingdom

Despite the skipper’s intimidating warnings that you will get soaked and won’t come out alive, the ride is pretty mild. You may feel the mist from the waterfall or get a few drops on you from the elephant’s trunk, but you will not get reasonably wet.

If you want to cool down and feel more of the midst on a hot day, I suggest you try to sit on the far side of the boat upon boarding. Unfortunately, though, you probably won’t be given a choice.

Summary of the Ride

The Jungle Cruise ride in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom is a popular one for good reason. Overall, the ride will be a nice leisurely (and dry!) stroll for 10-15 minutes through the pretend waters of the Congo with several laughs along the way! Hope this answers your questions about the ride!

How to Ride Jungle Cruise

Jungle Cruise has a Standby Line and Lightning Lane. There is no  Single Rider Line .

The Standby Line for Jungle Cruise is typically the lowest first thing in the morning and at the end of the evening. The middle of the day will see the longest lines with sustained wait times of over 60 minutes.

lightning lane and standby for jungle cruise

Jungle Cruise is not available during Early Theme Park Entry or Extended Evening Hours . So, if this ride is a priority for you, planning accordingly is a must.

D o I need to use Genie+ at Jungle Cruise?

Jungle Cruise is available with Genie+  and we highly recommend using it at this attraction.

Aside from Peter Pan’s Flight , the Jungle Cruise is the second most booked ride on Genie+ at the Magic Kingdom. It’s a highly-popular ride that many park guests make a must-do during their park day. Unless you hop on this ride first thing, you should plan to reserve a Genie+ time for later in the day.

Make sure you check out our  touring plans for Magic Kingdom  for more Genie+ advice.

Rider Switch/Child Swap

Jungle Cruise is for all ages and heights. Therefore, Rider Switch , the system that allows guests with small children to take turns riding bigger rides, while another person/people wait with the little one, is not offered for Jungle Cruise.

What to Expect When You Ride

The Jungle Cruise queue is completely outdoors, with most of the line covered from the sun. While the ride doesn’t have an interactive queue like many other attractions, there are plenty of sights and sounds to enjoy.

jungle cruise lotus tours poster in queue

You will find the queue decorated with prior passenger cruise logs and journals to read over. Also as you get closer to the loading station you can watch the tour boats pulling into and leaving the loading dock.

The music in the queue is also fun, including listening to what the announcer has to say.

Ride Vehicles

The ride vehicles for Jungle Cruise are small river boats. There is seating around the entire interior of the boat for guests to sit. Each boat can accompany approximately 30 guests.

jungle cruise boat with skipper in mask

There is a small 6 inch gap you must step over and down into the boat. Most guests are able to board with little to no help. There is a pole to grab on to help stabilize your boarding process in addition to Cast Members who will assist guests as needed.

You will ride in the tour boat with other groups, but your party will always be seated together next to — or at least near to one another.

There are no safety restraints, seat belts or life vests. You simply sit down and ride around inside the boat.

Accessibility Information

Guests may remain in their wheelchair/ECV while on the Jungle Cruise. A select number of boats are wheelchair accessible and have space for a single wheelchair. This includes manual, power, or ECV.

The majority of wheelchair sizes have no problem fitting on the boats. There is a separate wheelchair accessible entrance where your party can wait to board their boat.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

You’ll want to speak with a Cast Member at the attraction entrance (at the top of the path that leads to the attraction) for details and directions.

Sign language interpretation and assistive listening are also offered on the Jungle Cruise ride on certain days. To obtain a schedule listing exact days and times, visit Guest Relations in the park.

Motion Sickness

Jungle Cruise’s boats are slow-moving and don’t have any fast turns, so motion sickness seems very unlikely. That said, you are riding in a boat on the water. Feel free to check out our guide on motion sickness  that’s filled with additional information and tips.

On The Ride

Ride spoilers ahead!

Prepare to sail away on an adventure of a lifetime as your cruise boat arrives into the loading dock. After some brief safety guidelines and a clear to go, your Skipper starts the tour sailing your cruise boat away from the dock and into the jungle.

Your first cruise stop in the jungle will be the Amazon rainforest where it rains 365 days a year. Here you will see beautiful butterflies with an impressive wingspan and the rushing waters of Inspiration Falls.

gorillas on jungle cruise

Next the tour will embark to the depths of Africa on the Congo River. You will pass by your Skippers pet python snake and a camp being broken down by Gorillas.

Cruising over to Egypt your Skipper will take you to the infamous Nile River which spans about 4,000 miles. Capture photos of the African bull elephants among the boulders. Long neck cheetahs, zebras, giraffes and lions are seen resting amongst one another. A rhinoceros is seen trying to make his point, chasing a group of explorers up a pole.

Watch out for danger as you enter crocodile country. Sail past the impressive Schweitzer falls which is named after the famous Dr. Albert Falls.

lions and zebra on jungle cruise

You will enter a hippo pool which will require some expert navigation from your Skipper as you see another tour cruise boat that did not fare so well going through them. A family of chimpanzees is seen taking over another tour cruise boat.

Next up is what everyone came to see, the 8th wonder of the world — the backside of water!

Prepare for dark encounters as your cruise boat enters the Mekong River in the heart of Cambodia. Your Skipper will take you through an Asian jungle shrine where you will pass a 500 pound tiger, several cobra snakes, giant spiders, shiny gold artifacts, and Buddha statues.

jungle cruise scenery

As you exit the tunnel you will find yourself in the middle of an Indian elephant bathing pool. Feel free to take as many pictures as you like. Beware — these elephants have been known to spray the boat, so watch out!

There’s no visit to the jungle complete without a stop to see Trader Sam’s gift shop.

As your tour boat approaches the dock again wait on your Skipper to give the word to gather all your belongings and disembark.

Trust us when we say to fully experience this ride, you need to try it yourself because the Skippers add a whole new level to each attraction scene. Their puns and jokes are the point of the cruise.

Is Jungle Cruise Kid-Friendly?

Overall, Jungle Cruise is very kid-friendly, as all ages and heights are permitted to board and ride.

However, keep in mind some of the animals on the cruise are very realistic and may scare little ones. There is also a short scene in which the boat rides through a very dark, almost pitch-black cave with several animatronic snakes and tigers that could be scary for children.

Anyone riding with kids may want to tell them the animals aren’t real prior to riding.

Kids are also required to remain seated completely during the entire tour. There is no exchanging of kids from one parent to another while the ride is in motion. Due to the nature of this ride being open and on the water, the Skippers are very strict about this.

We have a full guide on several other things that might scare little ones at Disney World .

Strollers are not permitted on the Jungle Cruise boats. They can be left in the designated area near the attraction entrance or with a non-rider.

Jungle Cruise was one of the original attractions ready in 1971 on Magic Kingdom’s opening day. It was also an opening day attraction at Disneyland Park in California back in 1955.

Ironically, before becoming known for its laughs and silly jokes, the attraction as a whole was initially more of a serious tone with only a few jokes inserted here and there.

jingle cruise at magic kingdom

The original script for Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise was written by Winston Hibler and inspired by Disney’s True-Life Adventure African Lion film. This gave the ride its more serious and educational tone, but that all changed in the ’60s when Imagineer Marc Davis took over and turned the ride into what many know and love today.

During the holidays, Jungle Cruise receives a holiday overlay and becomes the “Jingle Cruise.” The ride format stays basically the same with the addition of fun holiday-themed jokes and pretty seasonal decorations.

Believe it or not, but the holiday Jingle Cruise actually hasn’t been around that long — only since 2013!

In January 2021, Disney announced that some much-needed changes were coming to the Jungle Cruise on both coasts. Those updates are now complete.

Some of the enhancements included incorporating an animatronic skipper, new characters (like Alberta Falls), adding new jokes (don’t worry, many of the classics remain), and freshening up the story by adding chimpanzees, new explorers being chased up the pole, and making the Skippers more of a focus.

Here was the concept art for these updates that were previously shared by Disney:

Most importantly, the outdated depictions and problematic scenes have been removed .

As Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Portfolio Executive Chris Beatty told D23, “This is not a re-envisioning of the entire attraction. It’s the Jungle Cruise you know and love, with the skippers still leading the way, and at the same time, we’re addressing the negative depictions of ‘natives.'”

This also means the removal of Trader Sam from the final scene of the ride. But he isn’t totally gone; Trader Sam is still part of the attraction in a unique way.

The final scene features a Lost & Found Gift Shop with a sign indicating that it is managed by Trader Sam (in place of the Trader Sam animatronic). As stated by Disney, “But, while he’s out lost and finding some new inventory, it’s the animals that get the last laugh!”

Other Fun Details

  • Rumor has it that when you enter the hippo pool, you’ll see the back half of a plane on the right, and, apparently, the front half was used in the Casablanca scene in the now-permanently closed Great Movie Ride.
  • The Jungle Cruise is not based on a movie, but it did inspire one. The new live-action Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt was released on July 30, 2021 giving nod to this classic attraction.
  • Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen is a nearby Table Service restaurant themed after the Jungle Cruise. It has a unique menu, serves alcohol, and is just as fun as the attraction. Reservations are recommended.

Jungle Cruise at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom: Everything You Need to Know

posted by Charmaine Cortes on January 10, 2023 // last updated on January 13, 2023

There are few rides as iconic to Disney World as the Jungle Cruise.

The riverboat adventure has been delighting guests since Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida first opened up its gates back in the 1970s!

Since then, the ride has only improved– and despite having one of the longest wait times in the Magic Kingdom, guests of the park continue to visit this ride on every trip. That’s thanks both to nostalgia, and the fact that no two rides are ever the same.

Now, with the release of a major motion picture inspired by the ride, new and regular visitors will be flocking to visit!

Before heading out to Magic Kingdom and hopping aboard, here’s everything you need to know.

  • What Is Jungle Cruise?

Where Is Jungle Cruise Located?

Jungle cruise ride experience: what to expect , jungle cruise ride accessibility , jungle cruise ride health and safety advisories , jungle cruise ride age and height restrictions, jungle cruise weather restrictions, jungle cruise faqs, the bottom line on jungle cruise  , what is jungle cruise  .

Jungle Cruise is one of the original Magic Kingdom attractions, running since its opening in Disney World in 1971.

The real OG Jungle Cruise opened at Disneyland in the 1950s, and versions of the ride exist in all Disney theme parks worldwide.

The ride was originally inspired by a series of 1950s movies, including ‘The African Queen’ and the ‘True Life Adventures series.

Bill Evans was tasked with creating a jungle within the park on a budget. To achieve this, he used a mix of tropical plants and plants that appeared to be tropical (but were actually local) .

He even used the trick of planting orange trees upside down, making the roots look like vines!

Marc David later made significant contributions to the design in later versions, including many of the scenes, present today.

The ride’s early renditions were more of an experience at first, like visiting a zoo or a botanic garden. However, over time the ride has developed into a funny, lighthearted attraction, and as a result, has increased in popularity.

A comedic script was added, the scenes became more humorous, and the guides were encouraged to have fun with the guests. You’ll now find them cracking jokes with guests, showing their personalities, and ad-libbing along the way!

Audio effects have been improved and modernized, the animatronics updated, new scenes added, and the jungle has grown and expanded throughout the years.

In 2010, the jungle became a self-sustaining ecosystem, after 45 years of careful care and growth. The ride has also removed elements that were offensive to native cultures.

The Jungle Cruise story was expanded in 2015 with the opening of the Jungle Cruise-themed restaurant, Jungle Skipper Canteen.

This introduced Dr. Albert Falls as the founder of Jungle Cruise in 1911. He then handed it over to his granddaughter Alberta Falls in the 1930s, where the story of the ride takes place.

The ride is full of audio-animatronic characters– mostly jungle animals– such as ones found on an African safari. There are waterfalls, a temple to pass inside, and many other scenes along the way!

All of the scenes can be experienced from within your boat, making you feel as if you’re an explorer from the thirties.

The ride is suitable for all ages and very accessible to those with disabilities. It’s a smooth, slow ride, but there’s never a dull moment thanks to the story unfolding around you and your skipper’s commentary.

‘Jungle Cruise’ is the latest in a long line of movies inspired by rides at Disney theme parks, the most notable being Pirates of the Caribbean. The 2021 film starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt and followed the general theme of the ride.

The Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise is located in Adventureland.

You can find it by going to the hub and taking the first left to Adventureland. After passing shops, restaurants, and the Swiss Family Treehouse, you’ll see the Magic Carpets of Aladdin.

From there, look to your left and you should see the entrance to Jungle Cruise!

Queue

The queue has four areas that can be opened up, depending on the size of the line. The average wait time for the ride is about an hour, one of the longest at the park.

It can get pretty hot waiting in the queue on a summer’s day, so beware if you have anyone in your party that may struggle with this. Don’t forget your water bottle, sunscreen, and hat!

As you wait in line to enter the line, it’ll feel like you’re in a colonial outpost. You’ll pass artifacts, photos, and tools from the theme and period of the ride to get you in the right headspace.

Your boat will pull up with your guide at the helm when it’s your turn. There are 15 boats in rotation, each with its memorable name (like Wamba Wanda ).

Jungle Cruise FastPass+

FastPass+ was discontinued and replaced with Disney Genie in 2021.

However, due to public outcry, it was announced in 2022 that FastPass would be coming back to the parks. At this point, it doesn’t appear to have been reinstated just yet.

Currently, you can use the Disney Genie service to get you through the queues faster with Lightning Lane entrances. However, Genie+ can no longer be pre-purchased– though you can still purchase through the app when you visit the park.

For more information on Disney Genie, be sure to check out the Disney World website .

The ride has a long wooden bench on each side of the boat, so guests face each other and sit side by side.

The bench doesn’t have a back, so if you lean back you’ll find yourself against the slightly curved side of the boat.

Plexiglass dividers are placed between sections of the bench, allowing four or five people to fit within a section. If you have small children, you may be able to squeeze a couple more in.

Once you step onto the boat, the skipper will welcome you and you’ll set sail down the river.

You’ll encounter giant butterflies, Inspiration Falls, a beach shop called “Boats, Baits, and Bites”, an African rock python, and a Gorilla-raided camp– all before you head down the Nile River.

In this new area, you’ll find African Elephants along with many other animals. You’ll pass a zebra watching a lion eat a member of its pack, and a group of lost safari goers hanging from a long pole, avoiding a black Rhino.

After passing gaters, waterfalls, and a plane crash, the boat is threatened by angry hippos. Thankfully, the skipper will frighten them off. After seeing chimps raid a ship, it’s off to the next area!

There, you’ll find yourself sailing into a temple damaged by an earthquake. Exotic animals like peacocks and a Bengal Tiger await! The ride will end just as you narrowly avoid being sprayed by a group of Indian Elephants.

While the ride is quite cruisy, the fun of Jungle Cruise lies with the skipper. There is a script, but most skippers will bring their own flare to the show– keeping guests laughing and the energy high.

The ride duration is about nine minutes long.

Jungle Skipper Canteen

After experiencing the ride, consider continuing the adventure by stopping at Jungle Skipper Canteen.

Here you can have a meal inspired by African, Latin, or Asian cuisine. Try Skipper Dan’s Dan Dan Noodles, “Hardy Har Char” Siu Pork, or Panna-Connie’s Congo Lime Delight.

There’s an extensive kids’ menu with menu items such as Junior Skip’s Macaroni & Cheese, or Chef Tandaji’s Crispy Chicken.

You’ll also find an extensive allergy-free menu here (as is the case throughout much of the Magic Kingdom), with allergy-free choices on apps, kids’ meals, entrees, and desserts.

Feeling a little parched? Choose from the selection of fun tropical cocktails, as well as their large selection of beer and wine!

Two of the boats, Bomokandi Bertha and Wamba Wanda, have wheelchair-accessible lifts. Most wheelchairs, including motorized and some ECVs, can be accommodated by these boats.

Guests in wheelchairs can choose to board the boat without their chair if able, leaving the chair at the dock. Alternatively, they can wait until one of the accessible boats arrives.

There are days when a sign language interpreter and Disney’s Handheld Devices are available.

These feature Assistive Listening, which will amplify the sound through either headphones or an induction loop. Handheld Captioning is also available on these devices, displaying on-screen text.

Disney’s Handheld Devices are available for a fully-refundable $25 daily deposit at Guest Relations. Devices are on a first-come, first-served basis, and they recommend that you bring your own headphones or an induction loop for use.

All guests should take care as they step down onto the boat from the dock, as it can bob and lean slightly while boarding. The skipper or ride assistant can offer a hand if needed.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

There are periods of darkness, and it’s possible to get damp from the mist near the waterfalls.

There is an instance of gunfire sound effects, but guests can request that it’s not played if this will trouble someone at the party.

Guests must remain seated at all times, including small children. The boat will bob some, and sea sickness is possible, but it is generally a pretty smooth ride.

There is no age or height restriction. Babies and toddlers can ride on their parent’s laps or in strollers.

Children under the age of 7 will need to be accompanied by someone at least 14 years of age.

Jungle Cruise closes during inclement weather, as most of the attraction takes place outdoors.

How long is the Jungle Cruise ride at Magic Kingdom?

The entire ride lasts for just over nine minutes.

How long does the Jungle Cruise line take?

The average wait time is about one hour. It’s a good idea to get to this ride as soon as the gates open to avoid a long queue.

During very hot days, the line can get uncomfortable and is best avoided if you are sensitive to this.

What do you do on the Jungle Cruise?

Guests ride along on a river boat with a skipper at the helm and explore various locations. You’ll see plenty of animals up to no good, and people in plenty of trouble!

The whole experience is fun and comical and suitable for the whole family.

Is Jungle Cruise a good ride at Disney?

This ride is a classic, and it’s only been made better over the years. It’s great for children and toddlers, as there are no age or height restrictions.

It’s a slow and steady ride, so its movement is not frightening. However, some young or sensitive children could be startled in the dark temple with snakes present, or by the gunshot sound effect.

When is the best time to ride Jungle Cruise?

Surprisingly, Jungle Cruise is a great ride at night! You can still see everything, and it looks even more realistic. Some riders report that the skippers tend to have more fun during sundown.

Christmas is another fun time to ride Jungle Cruise– or “ Jingle Cruise” , as it’s called– as it gets a makeover for the season and a snowman attraction is added.

The script even gets a rewrite, so it’s quite a different experience if you’ve already seen the original version!

Who is Jungle Cruise for?

Jungle Cruise is a blast for children but is also enjoyed by the young-at-heart. Some adults may find themselves rolling their eyes at their skipper’s cheesy lines, but it’s all part of the charm.

The Jungle Cruise is a delightful ride for the ages of 1 to 100.

Disney has created a fully immersive experience where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

They have taken careful measures to create a living jungle, keep the ride up-to-date, make it appealing to all– and have even hired slapstick skippers to keep you laughing!

Whether it’s your first or hundredth time on Jungle Cruise, it’s always worth a visit.

There’s no shortage of things to do when visiting the Magic Kingdom, so maybe it’s time to explore Jungle Cruise and all the other rides, entertainment, and food that Disney World offers!

Jungle Cruise Ride at Magic Kingdom (Everything You Need to Know)

Jungle Cruise is a classic attraction at Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World. This fun-loving cruise sets off through the Amazon Jungle, where you’ll behold the magic of audio-animatronic animals.

Below, we’ll ride through the attraction and share our adventures. In addition, we’ll provide details for experiencing Magic Kingdom’s version of Jungle Cruise and a few tips for the best time to ride. Keep your eyes peeled because you might spot some new characters along the way!

Here’s a chart with quick details for this exotic boat ride.

*Guests may remain in a wheelchair or ECV. Additionally, sign language, assistive listening, and handheld captioning are available for this attraction. Details for those with mobility issues (e.g., wheelchairs, and ECVs) can be found on Disney’s site.

Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom

Jungle Cruise was an opening-day attraction at Magic Kingdom and an original Disneyland attraction inspired by Walt Disney.

Initially, Walt Disney wanted to add live animals to the attraction. Unfortunately, adding live animals wasn’t possible at that time. However, that dream eventually came to fruition several decades later on the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom .

Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise sits toward the back of Adventureland. It’s on the left side of the land, immediately past Swiss Family Treehouse . Jungle Cruise has a standby entrance and an individual Lightning Lane queue. This attraction often has long lines that build fairly early in the day. So it’s not the worst use of a Lightning Lane.

As the sign indicates, you’ll board a jungle boat to travel exotic rivers of the world, guided by a witty and experienced Skipper.

The queue for Jungle Cruise is relatively long and consists of two waiting areas, so it’s difficult to gauge the wait from the outside.

an empty queue for the Jungle Cruise

Here is the other portion of the queue you cannot see from the start of the line. When I took photos for this update, the wait time was 60 minutes. Many guests were walking away when they saw the posted wait. So I decided to try it and see. Surprisingly, this portion of the queue was empty, and I waited less than 10 minutes.

part of the standby queue for Jungle Cruise

What I didn’t mention was that I got in line for Jungle Cruise around the time the Festival of Fantasy Parade had passed through Frontierland. Adventureland is partially blocked off when the parade begins, so fewer guests can enter the land. This causes waits at all of the Adventureland attractions to drop significantly. So, the best time to get in line for Jungle Cruise is immediately during or after the parade.

queue elements features a shipping office with a sign that says Proprietor Alberta Falls

Jungle Cruise has several fun elements in the queue, like these life preservers with the boat’s name printed on them. Each boat has a fun name, like Bomokandi Bertha, Kwango Kate, Amazon Annie, Ucyali Lolly, Congo Connie, Garland Gertie, Molopo Marie, and more.

Each boat has a decent capacity, which helps the line to move continuously. Cast members load up to 20 guests per boat.

Your adventure starts on the Amazon River in South America. However, you’ll soon find yourself sailing down the Nile River and through a temple that comes out on the Mekong River in Asia!

As Disney puts it, “It’s a 10-minute, 10,000-mile journey that you won’t soon forget.”

As you set sail, you’ll notice that things have gone awry, including your Skipper’s jokes. Each boat comes equipped with a Jungle Skipper escort whose sole purpose is to share terrible jokes throughout the journey.

When Jungle Cruise was last refurbished, this plane from the Casablanca scene in the former Great Movie Ride was added. You can expect a few jokes to crash land in this area.

Your skipper might also mention that a few hungry hippos are looking for dinner below you.

At this point, you’ll enter a dark temple.

A crocodile in the waters of the Jungle Cruise.

Unfortunately, it’s so dark I didn’t get any photos. But you’ll see a few snakes and tigers before you exit.

Guests sailing into a cavern up ahead.

A fun surprise awaits when you exit the temple. A parade of elephants is bathing nearby.

Per the Skipper, they are all wearing trunks.

You can’t help but smile as they enjoy their bath. All the while wondering…

two elephants who have each others backs

Is that one going to pop its trunk and douse you with water? Possibly, but don’t worry, it’s just a splash. They are only animatronics, so no elephant snot is involved.

a baby elephant

Finally, we’ve reached the end, where a new scene replaced the former Trader Sam.

Trader Sam’s gift shop and photo opp is available. Those animals will do anything to make an extra buck or two! About this time, you’ll reach the dock, and you’re Skipper will ever-so-politely ask you to–Get Out!

final scene of the Jungle Cruise with a baby elephant

As if we had not already discussed enough fun facts about the Jungle Cruise, one more thing comes to mind. Each year, between mid-November and the first of January, the Jungle Cruise transitions to the Jingle Cruise for Christmas.

This holiday overlay provides a festive touch. Cast members decorate the attraction for the holidays, and the jokes get even worse! So, of course, you’ll want to plan to experience this unique version during your visit.

Additionally, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt star in the 2021 movie T he Jungle Cruise, which was based on the Jungle Cruise attraction and the Society of Explorers.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Jungle Cruise is an endearing attraction that offers plenty of nostalgia. While the jokes are pretty bad, that’s part of the fun.

You might also enjoy these other Magic Kingdom Rides :

  • Magic Kingdom Pirates of the Caribbean (This one is a must-do!)
  • The Magic Carpets of Aladdin (Who doesn’t love a good spin now and then?)

Water Rides at Disney World – The Ultimate Guide 2023

Sharing is caring!

Wanting to know more about the water rides at Disney World? There’s nothing like a water ride to cool you off on a hot summer’s day and there are certainly plenty of great rides to choose from.

Here, we’re looking at all the water rides at the Walt Disney World theme parks and telling you all you need to know about them, including height requirement, thrill factor, and how wet you’ll get on each attraction.

Magic Kingdom Water Rides

A lot of the most popular water rides are here at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

They range from the “you are potentially going to get absolutely soaked” to the “you aren’t going to get a drop of water on you!”

Water Rides at Disney World Splash Mountain

disneyworldsplashmountain

Board a log flume and take a journey with Brer Rabbit to The Laughin’ Place which ends in a climactic five-story plunge into the Briar Patch.

Disney announced way back in 2020 that the theme of the ride will be changed.

Long the subject of controversy, fortunately, this has now been addressed. The new theme will be centered around the Princess and the Frog and will feature Princess Tiana.

When people think “Disney World water ride,” this is probably the first that comes up first in their minds. It’s a Disney classic with catchy songs and thrilling drops.

Splash Mountain is now closed for the new theme makeover. There is no official date for when Splash Mountain will reopen, but it is generally thought to be some time late 2024. This is perhaps a little ambitious for such a huge undertaking. We will have to see whether 2024 will see the reopening of Splash Mountain, or whether the timetable will be pushed to 2025.

What You Should Know About Splash Mountain

Splash Mountain is located in Frontierland right next to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

There are a total of four drops. Two are pretty tame, while one is in the dark, and the last is 5 stories tall.

If you don’t want to get wet, request the back row.

There’s a chance you’ll get a little wet, but it’s really not too bad. In the front two rows, however, it’s likely you’ll get soaked.

The height requirement is 40 in. To ride this attraction, you have to transfer from a wheelchair/electric scooter.

These aspects of Splash Mountain are unlikely to change with the transformation to the Princess and the Frog theme. These are all structural things which most likely won’t be changed in any way by the new theme.

It’s A Small World

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

Even if you’ve never been to a Disney park you’ve probably heard of this ride, along with the incredibly catchy “It’s A Small World” theme song.

On this ride, you go on a slow, gentle boat ride around the globe, where dolls, each of which represents a different country, sing their anthem of peace.

You have to experience It’s a Small World at least once as it is classic Disney.

What You Should Know

It’s A Small World is located in Fantasyland right opposite Peter Pan’s Flight.

Anyone of any age can enjoy this. Again, it’s a gentle boat ride with no drops.

Besides a few drops of water, you won’t get wet on this water ride.

There is no height requirement.

Jungle Cruise – Water Rides at Disney World

Jungle Cruise - Magic Kingdom - Walt Disney World

Take a tour on a riverboat through the jungles of Africa, Asia, and South America and see all kinds of wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, and zebras.

Something I like about this attraction is you get a slightly different experience each time you ride it as each tour guide makes up their own jokes on the tour.

What You Need To Know

Jungle Cruise is located in Adventureland, near the Magic Carpets of Aladdin and the Enchanted Tiki Room.

This ride is for all ages. It’s just a slow boat ride. You might get a couple of drops of water on you, but you don’t get wet on this attraction.

No height requirement. You can remain in your wheelchair/electric scooter – no need to transfer.

Pirates Of The Caribbean

The Auction Scene

Journey to 17th century Caribbean when Pirates ruled the seas. Explore haunted caves, sail through an explosive battle between a fort and a pirate ship, then make your way through a town being pillaged by pirates.

Not only is this one of the best water attractions at Disney World, but it’s also one of the best theme park attractions in the world!

It completely immerses you into a different world with its detailed set design, jaw-dropping effects, and state-of-the-art animatronics.

Pirates Of The Caribbean is located in Adventureland next to the Enchanted Tiki Room and Jungle Cruise.

Anyone of any age can enjoy this attraction. There is one small drop at the beginning, but it’s nothing too intense.

You may get a little wet if you’re sitting in the front. It’s nothing too bad though, and if you don’t want to get wet at all, request the back.

There’s no height requirement. Must transfer to a wheelchair for this ride.

Epcot Water Rides at Disney World

There are three water rides in Epcot. Don’t worry, You aren’t going to need a Disney rain poncho for any of these – the chances of getting wet are slight!

Frozen Ever After

Disney World: Epcot - Norway Pavilion - Frozen ever after

Travel to Elsa’s ice palace on a gentle boat through the Kingdom of Arendelle where you’ll see all your favorite characters from Frozen, such as Anna, Sven, and Olaf.

Disney really outdid itself with Frozen Ever After – this attraction is amazing. The story is a little weak, but all the animatronics and effects are outstanding.

My jaw dropped when I saw the Olaf animatronic for the first time.

If you’re a fan of Frozen, this is definitely a must-do when you go to Walt Disney World.

What You Need To Know About Frozen Ever After

Frozen Ever After is located in the back of the Norway Pavillion.

If you want to ride this attraction, make sure you visit the park early as the wait times can get pretty crazy. Or use Lightning Lane and Genie+.

People of all ages can enjoy this ride. There are two small drops, one of which goes backward.

If you’ve been on Pirates Of The Caribbean, you can handle this one.

You may get a teensy bit wet. The worst you might get though is some slightly soggy clothes – it’s nothing bad.

No height requirement. You have to transfer from a wheelchair/electric scooter to ride this attraction.

Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

The Three Caballeros are about to perform live on stage, but Donald Duck has gone missing. Now it’s up to the other two Caballeros, Panchito and José to find him.

On goes a slow, gentle boat ride that takes you to some famous landmarks and cities in Mexico as you try to find Donald Duck before the show.

Gran Fiesta Tour is located in the Mexico pavilion inside the Mesoamerican pyramid.

This is another ride that people of all ages can enjoy. There are no drops and there’s little to no chance you’ll get wet.

No height requirement. For this attraction, you must transfer to a wheelchair.

Living With The Land

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

A peaceful boat ride through Epcot’s greenhouses where you’ll see all kinds of fruits and vegetables from around the world.

You’ll also see dioramas of different landscapes, such as deserts and swamp lands.

Trust me, it is a lot more exciting than it sounds. This ride is very relaxing and it’s interesting finding out how they raise these plants, many of which are used in the Epcot Restaurants.

Living With The Land is located in the Land pavilion, very close to Soarin’ Around The World.

Anyone of any age can enjoy this (though children might find it a little boring). There are no drops and you will not get wet.

Water Rides at Disney World Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom has just two water rides, but they are both definitely worth experiencing.

Kali River Rapids

Kali River Rapids {Explored 3/15/16}

Splash your way through the jungles of Asia on this adrenaline-filled white water raft thrill ride.

The fun of this ride is you don’t know who’s going to get wet next! One minute, you think it’s the rider opposite you, then all of a sudden a huge gush comes out of nowhere and soaks you through and through.

Kali River Rapids is a perfect ride if you’re looking to cool yourself off in the Florida heat.

Kali River Rapids is in the Asia section of the park between Expedition Everest and the Maharajah Jungle Trek.

This ride includes a twenty-foot drop. I can almost guarantee you WILL get wet, no matter where you sit. It’s likely you’ll get soaked. Unfortunately, there’s no way of knowing which seat gets you soaked. You just have to hope you’ll get lucky.

The height requirement is 38 inches. You have to transfer from a wheelchair/scooter to ride this attraction.

Na’vi River Journey

A slow-moving boat ride that takes you through the mystical world of Pandora. Stare in awe at the beautiful bioluminescent rainforest glowing in under the night sky, then behold the Na’vi Shaman of Songs, one of the greatest Disney has created to date.

pandoraat animalkingdom

The Na’vi River Journey line is usually ridiculously long, but trust me it’s worth the wait. The set design is so amazing, and the animatronics are jaw-dropping.

Related Article – Disney’s Animal Kingdom Height Requirements

Na’vi River Journey is located in Pandora – The World Of Avatar, close to Flight Of Passage.

This is another family-friendly attraction that everyone can enjoy. There are no drops and you won’t get wet.

When you think of water rides at Disney World, you probably mostly think of Splash Mountain. But there is so much more than that — even in places you might not expect. Wettest Water Rides at Disney World

These attractions are rides where you are almost guaranteed to get wet. So be prepared with the right clothes and/or a ponchos and make sure your non-waterproof electronics are put away and protected in plastic bags!

Splash Mountain (Magic Kingdom)

Note: Splash Mountain is now permanently closed! It will reopen as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in 2024.

Splash Mountain is by far the most popular water ride at Disney World, with wait times regularly over an hour. Here you’ll take a log flume journey with Brer Rabbit as Brer Fox and Brer Bear play tricks on him. There are little hills all along the way until you finally get to the big drop toward the end.

You may be surprised to learn that there are added sprinklers on the ride to enhance the splash effects. These sprinklers are usually turned off or down during the winter.

If you want to get less wet, usually aim for sitting in the second or third row. The first row tends to get the wettest. But it really can be hit or miss with no guarantees or getting wet or staying dry! And sometimes water will splash up into your flume at places other than the big drop to, so be ready.

Splash Mountain height requirement: 40 inches.

Splash Mountain is one of the most popular water rides at Disney World

Pro tip: The Splash Mountain lift hill is NOT where you want to get stuck for 10 minutes with a scared 5-year-old.

Kali River Rapids (Animal Kingdom)

Kali River Rapids in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom is a ride where you will almost definitely get wet. Maybe even soaked!

This ride is a river rapids float ride that is themed after a rafting expedition along the Chakrandi River. There are waterfalls you travel under, a 20 foot drop, and plenty of spray jets with the aim of drenching guests.

If you don’t want to get soaked here, wear a poncho. There are also lockers nearby where you can store you things.

Kali River Rapids Height Requirement: 38 inches.

Kali River Rapids

Casey Jr. Splash ‘n’ Soak Station (Magic Kingdom)

This isn’t so much a ride, but since the main point of the Casey Jr. Splash ‘n’ Soak Station is to get wet, it seemed like it needed to be included on our list of water rides at Disney World.

This splash pad play area is located in the Storybook Circus area of Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom, and it’s themed after the circus train in Dumbo . If you think your kids will want to stop and play here, pack a swimsuit in your park bag! On those really hot Florida days, it might be exactly what they need.

Disney World Rides with Some Unexpected Splashes

These rides aren’t exactly meant to soak you, but you may still find yourself getting splashed unexpectedly from water jets, splashes, or themed special effects. You won’t necessarily need a towel to dry off from these rides, but just don’t be surprised if you get a little wet.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (Magic Kingdom)

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the popular rollercoaster in Frontierland of Magic Kingdom, certainly isn’t a water ride. But that doesn’t mean you’ll stay completely dry.

This wildest ride in the wilderness takes you through mines and caverns, and while most of it is dry, there are some sections with geysers and mists where you may get a little wet. But with as fast you’re traveling, you’ll likely dry off before it’s time to disembark.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Height Requirement: 40 inches.

Jungle Cruise (Magic Kingdom)

Jungle Cruise in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland is a water ride, but not one that is meant to get your soaked. Here you’ll travel through the jungle rivers of the world, from the Nile to the Amazon, with comedian skippers.

You’ll stay dry usually, but there is the possibility of catching some mist from the waterfall and an even smaller possibility of being splashed by an animatronic elephant. Generally though, whatever water you do happen to catch will likely just feel refreshing.

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin (Magic Kingdom)

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, also located in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland, is not a water ride at all — except for that pesky camel. Nearby is a gold camel that will randomly spit water on unsuspecting guests as they spin around. Whether you’ll get spit on or not is mostly luck — but know that it could happen!

If you want to avoid the water altogether, try moving your carpet to its highest position. (Much like Dumbo, you can control the height of your carpet. The controls for height are in the front seat.)

Pirates of the Caribbean (Magic Kingdom)

Pirates of the Caribbean is a popular dark boat ride in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland that takes you to witness the pillage and plunder of a band of pirates.

Although you’re not meant to get wet here necessarily, the possibility does exist. Watch out for the drop at the beginning, but it really depends on where you are sitting in the boat (people toward the front tend to get more wet).

Frozen Ever After (Epcot)

Frozen Ever After in Epcot’s Norway is a water ride that takes you through the scenes of hit movie Frozen . There are two small drops here (one of them backwards!) and you very well may get splashed. As with most water rides, it completely depends on where you sit, with the first two rows being more likely to get splashed on the forward facing drop.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (Epcot)

Disney World’s new ride in the the France pavilion of Epcot has you envision the world as the size of a rat in a Paris kitchen. It’s a fun 3D adventure that the whole family will love, but there are some moments with perhaps some unexpected water.

Since this is a 3D ride, there are a few times where things will pop out at you, and one of these, a champagne bottle being uncorked, may spray you with a little mist. It’s nothing major, and honestly on a hot Florida day it will probably feel refreshing more than anything.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

Avatar Flight of Passage (Animal Kingdom)

Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom’s Pandora is one of the the most popular rides on property, and with good reason. This incredible motion simulator will have you flying through Pandora on your very own banshee, and it truly is magical.

While you aren’t meant to get particularly wet, there is a scene where you fly through some water and past a large wave. And because Disney goes all out on immersive experiences, there is a mist of water the corresponds. You won’t get super wet, but don’t be surprised to feel a few drops of water on your face.

Avatar Flight of Passage Height Requirement: 44 inches.

Muppet Vision 3D

Muppet Vision 3D is a classic show in Hollywood Studios that is fun for the whole family. You won’t get super soaked, but there is a scene with Fozzie and his magic flower that results in the audience getting sprayed with a bit of water.

Gentle and Dry Water Rides at Disney World

These gentle water rides at Disney World won’t get you wet! So enjoy a boat cruise without worrying about drying off for the rest of your day.

It’s a Small World (Magic Kingdom)

This classic ride in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland takes you on a world tour with cute animatronic dolls and is sure to get a certain song stuck in your head.

But don’t worry about getting wet on It’s a Small World. This water ride is gentle and slow and doesn’t have any splashes.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

Liberty Square Riverboat (Magic Kingdom)

If you want to take a bigger boat ride, try the Liberty Square Riverboat in Magic Kingdom. This large boat will take you around Tom Sawyer’s Island and will give you some unique views of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Haunted Mansion. But you’ll stay dry!

Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros (Epcot)

This small boat ride in Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion takes you on a journey with José and Panchito as they search for Donald for their Three Caballeros concert. This ride is just as gentle as It’s a Small World, and you should expect to stay dry.

Living with the Land (Epcot)

Living with the Land takes you on a gentle boat ride through the greenhouse of Epcot’s The Land Pavilion. Learn about the work Epcot is doing to grow food, and then sample some of the fruits of their labors at nearby Sunshine Seasons or Garden Grill Restaurant.

This boat ride is maybe one of the most peaceful rides in Disney World, with just about zero chances of getting wet.

Na’vi River Journey (Animal Kingdom)

Na’vi River Journey takes you through a Pandora forest at night, complete with bioluminescence and the sounds of Pandora’s creatures. This relaxing and gentle ride will keep you dry.

Ready to buy tickets for your Disney World vacation? We love using Undercover Tourist ! They are an authorized theme park ticket vendor, and will absolutely save you money on the price of your tickets. For example, you could save $68 on a 4-day Park Hopper ticket .

Tips for Staying Dry on Water Rides

If you want to stay dry (or to keep your things dry!) on the water rides at Disney World, here are a few tips:

  • Use your poncho . Don’t just save it for the rain! You can use it to protect both yourself and your things on rides known to soak their passengers (like Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids).
  • Use the lockers near Kali River Rapids to store your personal items to keep them dry.
  • Pay attention to where you sit! Some seats in some rides are more known for getting soaked. Here’s some guidance on where to sit , but the usually opinion is that rows further toward the front tend to get more wet. That can change though depending on the weight distribution of the vehicle!
  • Wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. No one wants to walk around in wet tennis shoes all day, so wear something you know will dry fast (especially for rides like Kali River Rapids). (I’m ALWAYS wearing my Chacos ! )

The Jungle Cruise at Walt Disney World

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

The Jungle Cruise is a Disney classic ride where guests take a steam boat ride with The Jungle Navigation Co. through the treacherous water of the Amazon (South America), Nile (Africa) and the Mekong rivers (Asia).

The ride starts out with guests boarding one of the replica 1930’s British river tramp steam boats that have names like the one below called “Senegal Sal”.  Once greeted by your zany guide, your adventure begins.

Along the way your tour will encounter lions, gorillas, baboons, snakes, alligators, elephants, hippos and the occasional headhunter.  You’ll even see another group that literally gets run up a tree stand.  But don’t be afraid, you guide will take you the safer waters.

Humix

What makes the trip is the guide who are among the most entertaining cast members is all the Disney parks.  They really get into character and their jokes & antics are all part of the fun along this 10-minute ride.

While the tour it surely based on a general script, the ad-libbing of the different cast members really adds to the character of the ride.  We’ve been on the Jungle Cruise dozens of times over the years and we can easily say that is quite different every time.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

As usual, Disney has done an excellent job of theming and guests feel like they are in the middle of a jungle.  One of the coolest parts of the ride is when your tour boat goes behind the waterfall (you won’t get wet).  And about mid-way through the trek you guide takes you deep into a forgotten ancient temple – what out for the tiger that lurks in the darkness.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

The Jungle Cruise is located in the Adventureland section of the Magic Kingdom just adjacent to Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.  This attraction first opened in 1971 as one of the opening day attractions at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

The Jungle Cruise is suitable for all ages (other than seeing the lions eat a zebra) and there are no height restrictions.  It is a fairly slow ride but a bit dark when entering the Asian temple.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

FastPass+ is offered and highly recommended as wait times will exceed 30 to 60 minutes on a typical summer day.  There is some shade in the queue line while helps in the heat of the day.  If you can’t get a FastPass+, try to visit this experience early in the morning before the crowd levels get too high.

disney world jungle cruise do you get wet

Jingle Cruise

During the holiday season the Jungle Cruise is transformed into the “Jingle Cruise” and the attraction is fully decorated with the spirit of the season.  There is even a new holiday themed “script” that differs from the traditional one – the skippers really get into the holiday spirit.

So if you find yourself at the Magic Kingdom around Christmas time, make sure you see the “Jingle Cruise” as the holiday decor is only in place for a limited time.

Did the Jungle Cruise Ever Sink?

During early 2020 there were a number of reports that the Bomokandi Bertha sunk during the middle of a Jungle Cruise ride.  While there are rumors that this was a publicity stunt to promote the “Jungle Cruise” movie with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

We have seen the photos on Twitter and it does not look like it was staged as the boat is pretty well submerged.  It’s probably a good thing that water is only about 5 feet deep and the shore is just a short distance away!

In addition to the Bomokandi Bertha, we’ve heard that the Sankuru Sadie also had sunk back in 2004 but details on this are a little sketchy as the boat returned to service shortly afterwards.

How wet do you get on Jungle Cruise?

Earning My Ears

I read this part on the description of the ride "If you manage to stay dry by the waterfall, watch out for the elephants. Will they douse you or are you safe? Only you know the secret if you've gone on a Jungle Cruise." It really surprised me because I don't remember getting wet either time I went on this ride (1983 and 1999). We will be there in March and this was on the list of attractions but now I don't know. Tips or suggestions?

Dis veteran.

It's just hype for the ride. There may possibly be a bit of mist or spray from being near the waterfall, but you aren't directly splashed or squirted on or rained on. You won't get wet at all.

I'll second that!

It doesn't get scratched as often.

The elephants didn't spray anywhere near the boat when we went on it the last two times. It was like it was timed to spray right after the boat goes past. I have no idea if they always spray or if you ever do really get wet.

the only time ive ever gotten wet on it was when, it was raining and i was sitting in the "door way" and the roof canvas cover the door way fell and dumped all the water from the roof on DH and I.

X_Mickeys_Pal_X

They just do this to flour it up and add some excitment. When you go past the elephants they say " Speak ( elephant makes noise ) " Then..." Now squirt water" and everyone thinks there gonna get wet but nothing happens. Its a classic line.

"Today's a good day to Win a Trip to Disney World.

It is possible to get wet from the elephants but the skipper has to dilberately try to get you wet. Which would mean staying in the trottle exiting the tunnel and beating out the timing of the first elephants spray. But since they are being told from what we hear to stay to the script that's unlikely.

Jungle Cruise

A wooden engraving that says

Head Off to Adventure

Embark on a river cruise where dangerous beasts and dry wit abound. Board a canopied tramp steamer piloted by your trusty skipper, who will expertly navigate you through some of the world’s most treacherous waters.

Steam past lush foliage, butterflies and waterfalls on the Amazon in South America. Glimpse an abandoned camp overrun by curious gorillas on the shores of the African Congo.

Along the Nile, watch for bathing elephants, angry hippos and hungry lions. Be on the lookout for a tribe of headhunters recently spotted in the area. Your cruise continues down the Mekong River in Asia, home to baboons, cobras and other fearsomely life-like creatures.

It’s a 10-minute, 10,000-mile journey that you won't soon forget!

Which Rides Do You Get Wet on at Disney World?

Ashley

Disney World is a place where dreams come true, filled with thrilling rides, magical experiences, and a splash of fun. Among the many exciting rides, some can leave you with a refreshing spray of water, while others might get you thoroughly soaked. Here’s a comprehensive guide to the wet rides at Disney World, along with some handy tips and tricks to keep you dry.

The rides where you can expect to get wet at Disney World include Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids, which are known for their large splashes, and Casey Jr. Splash ‘n’ Soak Station, a water play area. Other rides like The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Muppet Vision 3D, Avatar Flight of Passage, and Jungle Cruise might get you a bit wet due to water effects or minor splashes.

The Wettest Rides at Disney World

There are several water rides at Disney World where you can expect to get wet, some of them include:

  • Splash Mountain (Magic Kingdom) – This log flume ride, based on the story of Br’er Rabbit, features a five-story plunge into the Briar Patch that can leave you quite wet.
  • Kali River Rapids (Animal Kingdom) – This river rafting ride takes you through a jungle landscape, where geysers and waterfalls can result in a potential soaking.
  • Casey Jr. Splash ‘n’ Soak Station (Magic Kingdom) – This is a water play area where everyone, especially kids, can expect to get wet.

Wet but Not Soaked

There are other attractions where you might get a little wet, such as:

  • The Magic Carpets of Aladdin (Magic Kingdom) – This ride features a spitting camel that might get you a bit wet.
  • Muppet Vision 3D (Hollywood Studios) – This 3D show has a few water effects that might cause a light spray.
  • Avatar Flight of Passage (Animal Kingdom) – This ride simulates flying on a banshee and has some water effects.
  • Jungle Cruise (Magic Kingdom) – This boat ride takes you through a jungle filled with animatronic animals and a few splashes.

Staying Dry on Wet Rides

You might be wondering if it’s possible to enjoy these rides while staying dry. Here are some tips:

  • Choose your seat wisely – Some seats, especially in the back, might stay drier than others.
  • Wear a poncho or rain jacket – This can protect your clothes from getting wet.
  • Bring a change of clothes or shoes – If you don’t want to walk around in wet clothes or shoes, bring a spare pair.
  • Use lockers – Some rides offer lockers where you can store your belongings to keep them dry.

Precautions

As with any ride, safety should be your top priority. Always follow the ride’s safety instructions and heed any warnings. For example, some rides have height restrictions, while others may not be suitable for guests with certain health conditions. Also, if you’re not a strong swimmer, consider wearing a life vest on the water rides.

Seasonal Changes

Be aware that some rides may be closed for maintenance or due to weather conditions. Always check the park’s official website or app for the most up-to-date information before your visit.

Whether you’re looking to cool off on a hot day or just seeking a thrilling experience, the water rides at Disney World offer plenty of fun. So grab your poncho, secure your belongings, and get ready for a splashing good time!

Disney World Water Rides You Get Wet On

By: Author Courtney Derqu

Disney World Water Rides You Get Wet On

Until Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens up sometime in 2024, there aren’t really too many water rides at Walt Disney World – especially those that you get really, really wet on. But that’s not to say there aren’t any that can provide that midday cooldown. So, if you’re looking for Disney World water rides you get wet on to help deal with all that Florida humidity, you’ve come to the right place because that’s exactly what we’re going to discuss below.

What is a Water Ride?

Water rides are one of the most popular styles of rides you’ll find at amusement parks. From Walt Disney World to your local water park, water rides are rides set over water. They come in many different forms, including but not limited to water slides, chutes, rafts, and log flumes. As a Disney fan, you’re likely most familiar with the most popular log flume of all time – Splash Mountain!

While Splash Mountain is currently undergoing a refurbishment to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, you’ll still have your fair share of water rides or water-adjacent rides to enjoy while visiting Walt Disney World. Because both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are water parks, all of their rides are water rides. So for the purpose of this article, we’re just going to be focusing on water rides at the four main Disney World theme parks.

Here’s a list of all the Disney rides you get wet on at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom:

Disney Rides You Get Wet On

There are three Disney rides you get wet on across the four Disney theme parks. These include:

  • Pirates of the Caribbean at Magic Kingdom
  • Frozen Ever After at Epcot
  • Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom

Read more: Disney World Height Requirements for Rides

Let’s take a deep dive (pun intended) into what these rides are and where you can expect to get splashed with water.

Pirates of the Caribbean

New Pirates Redhead

You’ll find Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland in Magic Kingdom. Pirates of the Caribbean is a log flume ride that takes you on a voyage through the high seas and seaport towns that have been ravaged by 17th-century pirates!

After you board your boat, you’ll go on a little cruise for a few minutes that eventually passes by the infamous shipwreck still being captained by one of those pirates that “tell no tales.” Shortly after passing this, your flume will plunge approximately 14 feet in total darkness, landing you in the next ride scene with the infamous Captain Barbossa.

The drop is fast. Like the former Splash Mountain, it’s kind of over before you even realize what’s happening. That being said, you can still get wet on this Disney ride, depending on where you’re sitting. For guests toward the back of the boat, you may only experience a little bit of splashing.

Guests in the front row will take the brunt of the splash, but you’re unlikely to get soaked on this ride. If anything, the most you’ll be dealing with is a few strands of wet hair and definitely some soaked bottoms because of the residual water left in the boat from previous guests.

Frozen Ever After

Disney World Water Rides You Get Wet On 1

Frozen Ever After is a lot like Pirates of the Caribbean in the sense that you will experience some minor splashing. Rarely, are you going to get soaked on Frozen Ever After.

This ride is located over at Epcot inside the Norway pavilion. It replaced the beloved Maelstrom, but still has the same ride track, which at some point, takes you backward! Frozen Ever After gets guests up close with the characters of Frozen – Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Sven and has some pretty spectacular imagery, especially when you enter Elsa’s ice castle and hear her belt out “Let it Go.” It’s at the end of this scene that her powers will send your log flume backward. This is where the first drop is, which isn’t too bad at all. This “drop” feels more like a dip.

Once you take this small dip, your boat will turn around and slide down past Marshmallow (the giant snow monster from Frozen ) and take the second drop. This is akin to the drop on Pirates of the Caribbean. As such, guests sitting in the front row are more likely to experience heavy splashing than guests sitting toward the back.

Kali River Rapids

Kali River Rapids Animal KIngdom Walt Disney World

Out of the rides mentioned so far, Kali River Rapids is likely the one you’ll experience the most splashing on, if not a total soak! In fact, the likelihood of getting soaked is so high that guests are encouraged to put their belongings in a free, two-hour storage locker before entering the ride queue.

Kali River Rapids, which is located in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom, is a whitewater raft experience that takes you through a lush jungle and past cascading waterfalls. You and 11 other guests will board your circular raft before jetting off on your rapid water adventure.

When guests first board their raft, they’ll go up a steep incline. Most first-time riders expect a steep drop at the end, but instead, your raft will just slightly dip and go into the water. Overall, this can be a pretty disappointing experience for first-timers. However, when you’re at this part of the ride, your raft will float near waterfalls and geysers, so depending on where you’re seated, you could get drenched.

You will get splashed throughout the duration of the ride simply due to the roughness of the water. After passing the logging scene, guests will experience their first and only drop. This drop is approximately 20 feet and once you hit the end of the slope, you’re likely to get pretty wet. After this scene, and toward the end of the ride, you’ll pass by some streams of water that could directly hit you. Once you pass by these, the ride is pretty much over. In total, Kali River Rapids is only about three to four minutes long.

Can Expectant Mothers Ride the Water Rides at Disney?

If you’re pregnant, the good news is that you can still ride both Pirates of the Caribbean and Frozen Ever After! Though these have drops, they are gentle and considered safe enough for expectant mothers to ride, as well as young children.

Per Disney, expectant mothers should not ride Kali River Rapids. It is generally considered to be too bumpy and unsafe for pregnant women.

If you’re traveling to Walt Disney World while pregnant or will be in a later trimester by the time your travel dates arrive, it’s recommended that you check out our blog, Pregnant at Disney World: Tips for Having a Magical Time When You’re Expecting for a list of everything you can safely ride and ways to make the most of your trip.

Remember, every pregnancy is different. So just because a ride is considered safe, it’s always recommended that you visit your doctor and discuss your upcoming Disney World trip to ensure both your and your baby’s safety.

Disney Rides You May [Surprisingly] Get Splashed On

Though these attractions aren’t technically considered to be water rides, it’s worth noting that you may actually get splashed while enjoying them.

Here’s a list of all the Disney rides you may surprisingly get splashed on:

  • Magic Carpets of Aladdin at Magic Kingdom
  • Avatar Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom
  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at Epcot
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom
  • Muppet Vision 3D at Hollywood Studios
  • Mickey’s PhilharMagic at Magic Kingdom

Magic Carpets of Aladdin

When you walk into the heart of Adventureland, you’ll come across the Magic Carpets of Aladdin. And, you know that big camel out front of the ride? Well, it may “spit” on you while you’re taking a carpet ride to a whole new world.

The camel will occasionally spit out a light stream of water, so you may get a little wet. But, don’t worry, you’ll dry off before you get off the ride. Remember, you can maneuver your ride vehicle to go up and down. So if you want to avoid getting wet, just bring your carpet all the way to the top. The water usually only hits ride vehicles that are midway up, as this is where most guests end up being comfortable flying.

Avatar Flight of Passage

Even if you’re not a big fan of the Avatar films, most guests agree that Avatar Flight of Passage is one of the most impressive and immersive rides ever built at the parks.

Avatar Flight of Passage allows you to “ride” on the back of a banshee through the world of Pandora. There is one scene in which you will fly past a large wave, and when you do you will experience some minor splashing. This is just for immersive storytelling purposes, so don’t worry – you won’t get really wet.

Read more: What to Expect on Avatar Flight of Passage

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

Like Avatar Flight of Passage, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France pavilion at Epcot does a pretty good job of immersing you in the story.

As such, there are a few moments when you will experience things such as misting and elevated temperatures. In regards to where you’ll get wet, there is a scene when a champagne bottle is opened. When the cork pops off, some “champagne” hits you. Again, this is a very gentle spray so while you will experience some misting, it’s not enough to get you wet.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

As you hop on the wildest ride in the wilderness, you will experience some light misting as you pass by some of the geysers. Because Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is primarily outdoors, this misting will dry off in seconds.

Muppet Vision 3D

Alright, so Muppet Vision 3D isn’t technically a Disney ride, but you will experience some light misting from the seat in front of you during the show.

Muppet Vision 3D is an immersive show, so when Fozzie Bear comes on screen and squeezes his flower with water in it, the audience will get sprayed. Again, this is a very light mist but it can be surprising if you’re not expecting it.

Mickey’s PhilharMagic

Mickey’s PhilharMagic has the same kind of setup as Muppet Vision 3D. It is an immersive 3D show that takes you through famous movie scenes – with one being that scene with the brooms and buckets in The Sorceror’s Apprentice . It’s during this scene that you can expect some light misting from the seat in front of you.

Again, the mist is very gentle, but it can be surprising if you don’t know it’s going to happen.

Disney Rides You Don’t Get Wet On

Disney World Water Rides You Get Wet On 2

If you want to be near the water but not get wet, you’re in luck because there are six Disney rides you don’t get wet on. These include:

  • Na’vi River Journey at Animal Kingdom
  • Living with the Land at Epcot
  • “it’s a small world” at Magic Kingdom
  • Liberty Square Riverboat at Magic Kingdom
  • Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros at Epcot
  • Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom

I had a little bit of hesitation adding Jungle Cruise to this list because there are a few scenes where, on paper, you should get wet, such as when you’re passing by the elephants who will occasionally spray water, as well as when your boat travels behind the 8th Wonder of the World, aka the backside of water!

While these sections do get guests close to being wet, I’ve personally never experienced it. Because of this, I’ve included it in this section of Disney rides you don’t get wet on.

All of these are basically boat rides that take you through different scenes and settings. Though you’re traveling through water, the water is there for the experience rather than an essential part of the ride’s storytelling, outside of the Liberty Square Riverboat, Living with the Land, and Na’vi River Journey. They’re all slow, relaxing rides that are perfect for getting off your feet and unwinding during your busy day.
