Flisadam Pointer

When he’s not dodging random items tossed at him on stage, Drake is being buried with massive bras at each stop of the It’s All A Blur Tour . Despite the tour’s rough start, including accusations by fans that Ticketmaster price gouged tickets and reported logistical issues that caused the Memphis date to be canceled , it’s one of the most sought-after tickets for a rap performance.

According to Touring Data, of the nine shows reported, the tour has brought in $41,195,428 in revenue — or, on average, $4,577,270 per show. The tour has 55 concert dates across North America. Ticket prices range, but the outlet shared that the medium cost is just above $284.

Drake Makes History As He Pulls In Over $5M From Just One Show

Drake Makes History As He Pulls In Over $5M From Just One Show

Drake is no stranger to making history in music, and now he’s added another accolade to his decorated résumé when it comes to touring.

The 6 God’s It’s All a Blur Tour rumbled through Washington, D.C. for a pair of shows on July 28 and 29, which made him the first rapper to eclipse $5 million in revenue from a single arena concert in U.S. history.

According to Touring Data , the Capital One Arena concerts each banked an average of $5.032 million in ticket sales, which amounts to a combined $10.064 million across the two nights.

The back-to-back sold-out concerts drew a reported 34,303 attendees, with tickets prices averaging $293.40.

These huge figures mean his July 28 stop in D.C. is also the highest-grossing concert of Drake’s career.

Drizzy even referenced the $5 million-for-a-show bag during his tour stop in Montreal last month while performing his 2013 hit “Started From the Bottom,” on which he rapped about getting $500,000 for a show.

If Drake keeps up this pace, the It’s All a Blur Tour is likely to eclipse Kendrick Lamar’s Big Steppers Tour, which currently holds the top spot for the highest-grossing Hip Hop tour of all time.

K. Dot broke Drake’s Aubrey & The Three Migos Tour record earlier this year after his 2022 trek pulled in $110.9 million from 929,000 tickets across 73 shows.

The Big Steppers Tour began in July 2022 following the release of Kendrick’s long-awaited fifth album  Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers  and came to an end that September.

With support from pgLang protégés  Baby Keem  and  Tanna Leone , the tour initially took place across North America, before heading to Europe and Australia and New Zealand.

Drake’s tour picks back up in Milwaukee on Friday (August 4) and will be followed by a brief intermission as his August 6 show in Memphis has been canceled due to “logistically impossible” production demands.

“Due to the magnitude of the production of the Drake concert, it is logistically impossible to bring the show as designed to the FedExForum on August 6th. Unfortunately, the show is cancelled,” a statement from the FedExForum read.

Travis Scott will also take his shot at usurping the touring throne later this year when he’s expected to go on tour in support of his new album UTOPIA .

Drake’s Summer Sixteen tour is the highest grossing in hip-hop history

The rap superstar will begin the UK leg of his Boy Meets World Tour later this month

drake tour money

Drake ‘s Summer Sixteen tour has been named the highest grossing tour in hip-hop history.

The Toronto rapper was joined by Future on the dates, which ran across the US over three months. They performed 54 shows between July and October and it is claimed tickets brought in $85 million (£69,173,177).

The data was calculated by Poll Star Pro , but, as  XXL points out, the tour could have made even more money. Drake injured his ankle towards the end of the run of shows, resulting in cancellations that otherwise would have upped the total money made.

Previously, the title of highest grossing hip-hop tour went to Jay Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne tour. The pair made $75 million (£61,035,156) between October 2011 and June 2012.

The overall highest grossing tour of 2016 went to Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, whose 66 shows raked in $268.3 million (£218.4m).

Earlier this week, Drake was revealed to top GQ ‘s list of the 50 best-dressed famous men – or “sartorial superheroes” – in the world.

Recommended

“With Drake’s latest looks trending away from bright yellow top-to-toe tracksuits and towards customised sports luxe, he’s proving that it’s possible to look cool in an outfit that, in a cheaper guise, might otherwise never leave the sofa,” GQ reasons. “Drake has been keenly and consistently developing a unique look over the last few years, which combines grime-y terrace fashion inspired by Italian menswear brand Stone Island, with preppy American court-side sportswear.

“If men can wear incongruous, colourful, even cosy clothes out and about without losing an iota of their masculinity, it’s mostly thanks to Drake,” its tribute continues.

Other musicians featured in the list include Skepta , A$AP Rocky and Tinie Tempah.

According to reports, Drake has been sampled on the forthcoming new album from The xx . The band will release third LP ‘I See You’ on January 13, with the song ‘Naive’ – which is said to sample Drake – listed for its deluxe vinyl release.

Meanwhile, the rapper will return to the UK later this month for his Boy Meets World tour. The trip includes eight nights at London’s The O2. Young Thug is reportedly joining him as support for the shows.

Drake will play:

Glasgow, The SSE Hydro (January 25, 26) London, The O2 (January 28, 30, February 1, 2, 4, 5, 14, 15) Leeds, First Direct Arena (February 8, 9) Manchester, Arena (February 11, 12) Sheffield, Arena (February 17) Birmingham, Barclaycard Arena (February 22, 23)

Is Drake Still with Cash Money? A Detailed Look at Drake‘s Record Label History and Net Worth

The short answer is no – Drake is no longer signed to Cash Money Records. But his career started on Lil Wayne‘s influential hip hop label back in 2009. Drake has since risen to become one of the world‘s best-selling artists.

In this guide, we‘ll explore Drake‘s journey into the music business. You‘ll learn how he leveraged owning his recordings to build an empire and amass astounding wealth.

Drake‘s Origin Story: Signed to Cash Money Records 2009

Let‘s rewind to 2009. A 22-year old Drake was trying to catch his big break in music. That opportunity came when rap legend Lil Wayne signed Drake to his powerhouse label Cash Money Records.

Cash Money Records had already produced mega-stars like Juvenile and Lil Wayne himself. With their distribution deal through Universal Records, Cash Money had the infrastructure to launch Drake to the top.

In 2009, Cash Money released Drake‘s breakout mixtape So Far Gone . His single "Best I Ever Had" rocketed up the charts, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Drake‘s debut studio album Thank Me Later followed in 2010, debuting at #1 with platinum sales.

Drake‘s early albums were a resounding success. But tension brewed below the surface between Drake and Cash Money Records.

Drake‘s Frustrations with Cash Money Records

Drake soon grew frustrated with his situation at Cash Money Records. In later interviews, Drake revealed he felt cheated out of music royalties by the label.

As an ambitious young artist, Drake yearned for more creative control over his work. But Cash Money still owned the rights to Drake‘s master recordings during this period.

In 2012, Drake tried to gain more leverage by founding his own record label OVO Sound. But he was still under contract with Cash Money, which limited his options.

The rift between Drake and Cash Money Records – especially co-founder Birdman – continued to worsen. Something had to give.

Drake Departs Cash Money – What Sparked His Exit?

In 2014, tensions boiled over into an all-out legal dispute between Drake and Cash Money Records.

Drake alleged that Cash Money withheld over $17 million in royalties owed to him. He requested to be released from his recording contract so he could take control of his career.

But Lil Wayne himself soon sued Cash Money for $51 million in unpaid royalties. This signaled even bigger problems behind the scenes.

In 2015, Drake finally left Cash Money Records for good. He signed a new $19 million contract with technology company Apple to release his next albums.

What sparked Drake‘s messy exit from Cash Money? In short – money and creative control. Drake knew his true earning potential was being capped by Cash Money.

How Leaving Cash Money Raised Drake‘s Earning Power

By leaving Cash Money Records, Drake escaped what he viewed as an unfair record deal. He was now free to record on his own terms.

Owning his new master recordings meant Drake could collect the lion‘s share of his music profits. His previous record royalties flowed mostly to Cash Money.

Just look at how Drake‘s income shot up after cutting ties with Cash Money:

  • Drake earned $17 million in 2013 while still with Cash Money, according to Forbes.
  • By 2017, his income rose to $50 million after building his own OVO label.
  • Drake made $95 million in 2020 at the height of his success.

Drake knew ownership was the key to wealth in the music industry. His bet on himself clearly paid off in the form of massively escalating earnings.

OVO Sound – Drake‘s Record Label Empire

After leaving Cash Money, Drake‘s own OVO Sound label became his new vehicle of success. While still partnering with Apple and Universal‘s Republic Records, OVO afforded Drake much greater control.

OVO Sound enabled Drake to sign emerging artists like The Weeknd, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan and dvsn. Drake also leveraged OVO‘s in-house team of producers like Noah "40" Shebib.

OVO Sound became one of hip hop‘s most influential independent labels. Drake now had a platform to release music on his own terms and keep the profits.

Between album sales, sold-out tours, and endorsements, Forbes estimates Drake earned an astounding $50 million in 2016 alone. Cash Money Records was clearly holding Drake back from reaching his true potential.

Just How Rich is Drake Today?

Drake‘s current net worth is estimated between $250 million and $500 million. That puts Drake on par with hip hop‘s biggest money-makers:

Much of Drizzy‘s wealth stems from owning his masters and launching side businesses like his OVO clothing brand and Virginia Black whiskey.

His business manager Oliver El-Khatib estimates Drake can easily clear over $100 million annually from his varied income streams.

Drake‘s Massive Real Estate Portfolio

With all that wealth, Drake spends lavishly on his true vice – real estate. He owns stunning homes across North America:

  • A $100 million palace in Toronto sprawling over 50,000 square feet
  • A $4.5 million Hidden Hills estate in California
  • A $6.7 million Toronto waterfront mansion
  • Multimillion dollar condos in Beverly Hills and Toronto

Drake‘s real estate portfolio is valued at over $200 million. His custom-built "The Embassy" mansion in Toronto cost a record $100 million, making it one of Canada‘s largest and most expensive private homes.

Clearly Drake is living in luxury befitting of one of music‘s greatest hit-makers.

Just How Much are Drake‘s Master Recordings Worth?

Owning masters to his recordings is the foundation of Drake‘s wealth. But just how valuable are his master rights?

According to industry experts, Drake‘s entire music catalog could be worth over $300 million . That‘s just for his existing collection of hit albums and singles.

His forthcoming recordings under his new Universal deal are also massively valuable. Drake reportedly negotiated a stallion-sized "LeBron James" sized deal with Universal for future music rights.

These master recordings earn Drake income every time his songs get played or licensed commercially. As his catalog grows, so does the earning potential.

Given how prolific Drake is, he could easily add hundreds more commercially successful songs to his catalog over the next decade.

Drake Earned $50 Million From Streaming in 2021 Alone

To put it into perspective, streaming accounted for over $50 million of Drake‘s income in 2021.

His monthly revenue from Spotify and Apple Music is estimated between $5 and $10 million. On Spotify, Drake gets around 3 to 4 cents per stream from his back catalog.

In total, Drake amassed an absurd 52.5 billion streams across all music platforms just in 2021. That‘s over 1 billion streams per month. It demonstrates the power of retaining rights to your creative work.

Drake‘s ‘Boy‘ Ad Campaign Earned Him $10 Million

Beyond music, Drake earns big as a brand pitchman. He teamed up with Nike subsidiary Air Jordan on a major ad campaign and merchandise deal.

The iconic ads feature Drake sporting OVO-branded Air Jordan‘s while DJ Khaled calls him the "boy". Drake pockets an estimated $10 million annually from this collaboration alone.

He also signed a blockbuster $20 million endorsement deal with T-Mobile in 2022. Look for Drake to keep cashing in through more big-money brand partnerships.

On Tour Drake Earns Up to $2 Million Per Show

Drake‘s live tour revenue adds up quickly too. According to Billboard Boxscore, his 2018 "Aubrey and the Three Amigos" tour with Migos grossed $79 million .

Across 42 shows, that comes out to around $1.9 million per night . And that‘s not even counting merch sales and sponsorships on top.

During his 2022 "October World Weekend" residency in Toronto, Drake reportedly grossed over $100 million from ticket sales.

Between his dedicated fanbase and hits for days, Drake can expect to earn elite money on tour for decades to come.

Key Takeaways on Drake‘s Journey to Wealth

To recap Drake‘s prolific career:

Drake signed to Cash Money Records in 2009, releasing his first studio albums Thank Me Later and Take Care

Frustrated with label politics, Drake founded OVO Sound in 2012 while still under Cash Money contract

Drake‘s masters and catalog could be worth over $300 million given their massive earning potential

Expect Drake to keep building his fortune in the years ahead through music, business deals and investments

Drake took control of his career by any means necessary. That ambition has paid off with an estimated half billion dollar fortune while still in his 30s. Now he sets the blueprint for generation wealth through music ownership. Cash Money Records certainly helped launch his career. But Drake‘s determination to bet on himself took him all the way to the top.

See Everything Drake Spent $400,000 on Gifts to Fans During It’s All a Blur Tour

Drake 's It's All a Blur Tour with 21 Savage has been filled with many memorable moments, but one notable aspect of the tour has been Drizzy's generosity toward his fans. His supporters have shown love in numerous ways during the extensive trek. Most notably, it's been through  an extensive collection of bras  women have given Drake, which he's collected along the way. Throughout the tour, the rapper has done his best to pay it forward. While Drake's shows have been memorable for having a larger-than-life figure of the late Virgil Abloh and a look-alike from the rhymer's childhood, it was his gift-giving abilities that seemed to catch fans' attention most.

There have been many occasions during the tour when Drizzy paid back the fans who shelled out some serious cash to see him perform. Other times, he's provided gifts in the form of purses. As a result, The Boy has given away $400,000 in straight cash or various presents to his supporters. Drake's philanthropy takes many shapes on road. He  most recently gifted a fan $50,000 to ease a broken heart after the man disclosed that his girlfriend dumped him right before the show. Drake also  flew out a die-hard fan  in first class to his show in Atlanta, and even opted to pay for a newlyweds' honeymoon.

With Drake's new album,  For All the Dogs , set to arrive on Friday (Oct. 6), there's a chance the 6 God may be giving his fans even more down the line. For now, XXL  takes a look at the generosity Drake has shown on his It's All A Blur Tour. Hopefully, there will be more to come as the tour continues through the end of the year. Check out the whopping $400,000 total he gave to fans in some way below.

$230,000 Fine for Breaking Curfew

While Drake didn't exactly give his Detroit fans $230,000 during his July 8 show, he essentially did in order to perform a little bit longer for them.

In a video captured of his performance at Little Caesars Arena in the city, the rapper can be seen telling the audience he is knowingly violating the venue's curfew. Drizzy claimed that he’d be fined $10,000 per minute past the allotted time slot, but said he'd take the blow for his fans.

“It’s $10,000 a minute to stay in this building past curfew,” he said to the audience. “But I don’t give a f**k. We’re doing this whole song. Let’s go.”

While there has since been some debate as to whether Drizzy actually violated any curfew, it's a generous sentiment nonetheless.

$30,000 Birkin Bag Gifted to a Lucky Fan

Drake didn't just give away cash during his time on the road. The 6 God also handed out a few pricey bags to some lucky ladies in the audience. During a show at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif. on Aug. 16, Drake sauntered out on stage with a $30,000 bag in his hand. He then casually gifted it to a woman in the front row, and asked security to make sure she left the venue safely at the end of the night.

"Drake ain't cheap," Drake said before finding the lucky recipient. "Give this to her right here. Give her that nice little Birkin bag. Give that girl that nice little Birkin. Take that home with you. Make sure she has security on the way out, too, so nobody robs here for it."

$50,000 to Fan Who Spent Furniture Money on a Ticket

He also dropped $50,000 on another fan after spotting their sign at his sold-out Las Vegas show on Sept. 2. The fan in question claimed to have opted for a ticket to see Drake over furnishing his own home , and Drizzy thought it best to reimburse them.

"Drake I spent my furniture money on your two shows, OVO for life,” Drake read from the fan’s sign. "My manager is my DJ, right. Is he over there? He’s right there? You know what? My man, your furniture money, I'ma give you 50 bands tonight ’cause I love you. Make sure he gets his money tonight."

Drake continued: "That’s real s**t. I f**k with you. Aye, listen! Listen! This what life is about. I’m tryna teach you something tonight. I want you to understand something tonight. You never know what the next person is going through. You never know what the person in front of you, to the left of you, to the right of you, behind you is going through!"

Estimated $10,000 Chanel Bag to Pay Fan Back for Four Tickets

A celebration was had for one of Drake's super fans during a show in Houston on Sept. 17. The fan bought four tickets to see Drizzy and 21 Savage perform, and claimed that she had to give out an extra 50 Brazilian waxes in order to purchase the tix. So, he returned the favor by handing her a new Chanel bag.

"So, you own a spa or something?" Drake said into the mic. "She said, ‘I had to wax 50 pussies this week.’ Give her the Chanel bag."

The bag Drake's gave his loyal supporter sells for around $9,600.

$10,000 and First-Class Plane Ticket to Super Fan

During one of his shows in Houston on Sept. 18, Drake noticed that he had seen a person in the front row before. It appeared that the super fan had traveled from Brooklyn all across the country to see her favorite rapper perform, and Drake thought it best to pay it forward .

"It's this girl right here," he said while pointing at the concertgoer. "I swear, I don’t know what kind of effort you put in, but I see you every show." Like, you are standing right here every single show. I see all the shows you’ve been to Brooklyn, Dallas, Dallas, Houston, Houston, and you got one more in Atlanta."

Drake went on to say that the next show was on him.

"Alright, I’m going to fly you first-class to Atlanta," he said. "I'ma let you watch the show from the VIP, like, we’re gonna put you somewhere real nice. And I’ma give you 10 bands so you can spend it… You’ve been reppin’ real hard this whole tour. Yeah, I f**k with you. That's what I love to do. I love to show love."

Estimated $2,000 for Newlyweds' Honeymoon

Drake's Atlanta show on Sept. 28 saw the 6 God paying homage to the city's late hometown hero Takeoff. He commended the city for being the " most important place in rap music ." Drake also took a moment halfway through the show to shout out two fans who are newlyweds. They disclosed to the 6 God that they had skipped their honeymoon in order to be in the audience.

"She brought a sign to the show that says we canceled our honeymoon for this," Drake said. "Since we in Atlanta tonight and I'm feeling all the love from everybody. One of my favorite places in the world, you know what it is? It's a place called Turks and Caicos. I'm gonna send y'all to Turks and Caicos."

If Drake were to send the couple on a round trip flight from Atlanta to Turks and Caicos Islands, it would be an estimated $1,900.

$50,000 to Man Who Got Dumped by His Girlfriend

Drake demonstrated his philanthropic spirit most recently to a heartbroken concert attendee in Miami on Sept. 29, whose sign caught the Toronto native's attention.

"Aye, I gotta read that sign, I like that sign,” he said upon noticing it. “That’s a good sign to pick tonight. Usually, I’ll do something nice for a lady. I’d do something nice, I’ll give away a bag or some s**t like that."

The sign read, "I spent all my savings buying tickets for me and my ex, but Honestly, Nevermind, it’s really Her Loss." Drake supported the fan's use of his two previous album titles in order to convey his message, and said he was gonna help him "flex on her tonight."

"You know what? She’s gonna feel real f**ked up ’cause I’ma give you 50 bands so you gon’ flex on her tonight," Drake told the roaring crowd. "That’s how we doing it tonight, big dog! It’s your night tonight! And I won’t say it how y’all said it, but f**k that young lady."

Music Career

Drake made millions from his successful career as a rapper.

Drake brings in an estimated $50 million annually from music, according to an estimate by Variety. Drake's 2016 album Views spent 100 consecutive weeks as the number one album on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Before Drake launched his career as a rapper, he was known to the world as Jimmy Brooks, in the early 2000s Canadian teen drama, Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Drake was 14 when he landed the role on Degrassi and was known by his birth name, Aubrey Graham, at the time. Drake acted in seven seasons of the show, and made $40,000 a year from the show, according to a 2013 article by GQ.

Every time Drake tours, he definitely adds to his net worth. According to Celebrity Net Worth, he has $250 million. So it's safe to say that he's raking it in with every single concert. How much money did Drake make from his 2023 tour? And why is there a class-action lawsuit against him?

How Much Money Did Drake Make From His 2023 Tour?

Since Drake's 2023 tour includes 29 dates, it's possible that he has made a great profit. And as seems to be the case these days, the tickets aren't cheap. This definitely makes sense given Drake's high profile. And although the singer tried to hide who he is , he's always going to be a major star who grabs attention everywhere that he goes.

The first night of the tour will be in New Orleans in June. After that, the singer will travel to Memphis, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Montreal, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, and more. He will also play two concerts at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto in October 2023. Ticket prices do vary depending on the venue. But it's fair to say that Drake is doing well as a result of the tour.

According to Seathub.com, tickets for Drake's Toronto shows will cost fans several hundred dollars. The cheapest tickets start at $356. The most expensive tickets are almost $2,000.

If fans want to see Drake in Memphis, they can find a ticket for $156. That is a little more reasonable. But it still might not be in everyone's budget.

The final figures for Drake's 2023 tour aren't available since it's happening this summer and fall. However, fans can guess what he will earn based on his 2018 tour.

Drake's Aubrey And The Migos Tour made $79 million , according to Forbes. Fans purchased 678,410 tickets and Drake performed in 43 cities. When Drake toured in 2016, he went to 54 cities and made $84 million.

Forbes reported that several other artists made more money from their tours than Drake did. Beyoncé and Jay Z's tour earned $254 million, Taylor Swift's earned $345 million, and Ed Sheeran's earned $432 million. Still, $79 million is a lot of money.

Although Drake last toured in 2018, he has continued to record albums. In September 2021, his album "Certified Loverboy" came out. And "Honestly, Nevermind" came out in June 2022. Fans loved the songs "Massive" and "Sticky from Drake's most recent album and it will be fun to hear him play these tunes live.

In a 2023 interview with Yachty that fans can see on YouTube, Drake talked about the future of his music career. He talked about how it can be easy to fall into the "competition" of this kind of career. And it sounds like he doesn't want to compete anymore.

Drake said, “what’s left for me is just to find a way to gracefully continue making projects that are extremely interesting, and hopefully cherished by people, and then to find the right time to say 'I can’t wait to see what the next generation does.' I will still be around to work with people or do a show here or there, but I’m not going to force myself to compete.”

Since Drake is going on tour in the summer and fall months of 2023, it seems that performing is still part of his plan.

What Is The Class-Action Lawsuit That Was Filed Against Drake?

Although many fans were thrilled to buy tickets to Drake's 2023 tour, not everyone was pleased. There is currently a class-action lawsuit against Drake . According to NME.com, LPC Avocat Inc. is representing a fan from Montreal, Quebec.

The Toronto Star reported on the lawsuit, which is about Ticketmaster selling expensive Drake concert tickets. LPC Avocat Inc. wrote, “Ticketmaster unilaterally decides which tickets it advertises and sells as ‘official platinum’ based on a given event."

The lawsuit continued, "The result is that most, if not all, of the tickets advertised and sold as ‘official platinum’ are neither ‘premium tickets’ nor ‘some of the best seats in the house’ and are, in fact, just regular tickets sold by Ticketmaster at an artificially inflated premium in bad faith.”

It's definitely upsetting to buy expensive tickets... and then learn that the seats are super high up. It's also upsetting to spend a lot of money on tickets and then find out that it was possible to get a deal. And that is exactly what happened to one fan.

The Star reported that when the fan purchased two Drake tickets, they spent $789.54 per ticket. They were called "official platinum." The fan said that a day later, the tickets were several hundred dollars cheaper.

In April 2023, the lawyer working on the class-action lawsuit, Joey Zukran, was interviewed by Toronto Life. He talked about whether musicians actually want ticket prices to be this high.

Zukran said, "I want to be very careful what I say—obviously I don’t want to get sued by Drake. Do I suspect that the artist gets a percentage of sales and that they would have an interest in the tickets selling for as much as possible? Yes, but I don’t know for certain. That is something we will find out as the case continues."

Zukran also told Toronto Life, "When we launched the class action, we tweeted about it and tagged Drake, but so far he hasn’t said a word, which is disappointing, especially when you look at recent comparable examples with prominent artists."

Zukran mentioned that when Taylor Swift fans were upset about Ticketmaster selling high ticket prices, Swift did talk about it. She was honest about how problematic she thought this trend was. Drake, however, doesn't appear to have spoken about the subject.

See Drake Hold Young Money Reunion With Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj in Toronto

  • By Daniel Kreps

Drake held a Young Money reunion with Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj Saturday night in Toronto as part of the rapper’s October World Weekend shows. The gig marked the first time in eight years that the former label mates appeared together onstage.

The concert — which had been delayed one week after Drake tested positive before the original date — opened with some levity as the video screens stated “Unfortunately, Lil Wayne had some troubles at the border. Luckily, Drake runs the border.” Lil Wayne then took the stage to deliver a hits-filled set that featured appearances by his Young Money counterparts.

“I’m standing onstage with the greatest rapper of all time,” Drake said, motioning to Lil Wayne. “And I’m standing onstage with the other greatest rapper of all time, she’s over there with the pink hair. By the way, like, are these bitches serious? Like, nobody can fuck with Nicki. She’s like the originator – it starts here, ends here, all that shit.”

Before ending the concert, Lil Wayne had one last proclamation: “I’m working on Tha Carter VI , coming soon.”

Young Money, Lil Wayne’s imprint of the Cash Money label, launched both Drake and Minaj to stardom. All three rappers, as well as other artists on the label, appeared on three Young Money collective albums, the last one being 2014’s Rise of an Empire .

Will Drake be going on tour across the UK and Europe?

Drake accidentally revealed he is set to tour the UK and Europe in 2024 after a livestream in December 2023.

The rapper said his new year's resolution is to "travel more" without it being work related, and when asked if he would come to Europe, he replied: "I think I'm going to go on tour in Europe."

Drake then said: "Oh, that's maybe an exclusive, I'm definitely going on a Europe tour next year."

When is Drake's London Show in 2024?

Nothing has been confirmed as to whether Drake will be embarking on a tour across the pond to the UK, however as a London lover, we hope Drizzy will announce something soon.

He’s got money to drop. Drake’s net worth is off the charts as he is embroiled in a diss battle with Kendrick Lamar. The two have made several songs about their hatred of each other.

The beef started when J. Cole and Drake ranked themselves, with Lamar, as the “big three” in hip-hop in the song “First Person Shooter.” J. Cole further dissed Kendrick in “7 Minute Drill” on his surprise new album, “Might Delete Later. He later apologized a couple of days later. After the release of “Like That” with Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar, the latter artist  stood his ground  and said that it’s just him up there in the ranks. Drake, however, took it further and the Compton-born and Toronto-born rapper have released rapid-fire diss tracks—one after the other from “Pushups” to “Taylor Made Freestyle” to “Not Like Us.”

In one diss track, called “6:16 in LA” Kendrick raps, “It was fun until you started to put money in the streets / Then lost money, ’cause they came back with no receipts / I’m sorry that I live a boring life, I love peace / But war-ready if the world is ready to see you bleed.”

So how much money does Drizzy actually have? Let’s take a look at Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar’s net worth.

Drake's Net Worth

Drake’s net worth is estimated to be $250 million according to Celebrity Net Worth. The Toronto-native rapper mostly gets his earnings through his music but has also ventured into other businesses.

In an interview with XXL, money means to him as “less than the dollar value. It’s just more about the idea of growth and a business mindset: $25 million at the time seemed crazy to me, but when you start becoming a headlining touring act and brands want to get involved with you and you can go do private events and whatnot, you’re capable of making it.”

Drake's Music Earnings

Drake’s music earnings are what got him to the top. According to Celebrity Net Worth, he has an annual salary of $70 million as founder of his label OVO Sound. His latest album For All The Dogs sold 402,000 equivalent album units in its first week including 391,000 streaming equivalent album units (514.01 million on-demand streams of the songs), 10,000 in album sales, and just a little over 1,000 in track equivalent album units.

Drake is currently tied with The Beatles for a record of 19 No. 1s on the Billboard 200.

Drake's other ventures

Drake has a ton of endorsements ranging from Sprite, Nike, and Apple Music. Does anyone remember that weird Drake robot Sprite advertisement? But he lucked out in his Apple Music endorsement when he signed an exclusive deal that amounted to $19 million.

Of course, he dabbled in acting ( Degrassi: The Next Generation ) and producing ( Euphoria ). He’s also the owner of DreamCrew Entertainment, 100 Thieves, MoonPay, and Ovo Clothing.

Drake has a ton of properties

In 2012, Drake purchased the YOLO mansion in Hidden Hills, California which included six bedrooms and ten bathrooms house for $7.7 million. He listed the property for $12 million in 2022. He’s also sold a pair of ranches to Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and sold three homes after moving to Beverly Crest earlier this year, spending $75 million on a 20,000-square-foot home on 20 acres owned by English singer-songwriter Robbie Williams.

He also keeps a residence in his hometown of Toronto. Amid the Kendrick and Drake diss battle, a shooting took place outside Drake’s house around 2 a.m. and Toronto Police Service officers found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound when they arrived at the scene, according to Inspector Paul Krawczyk of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force at the Toronto Police Service.

Kendrick Lamar's Net Worth

Kendrick Lamar’s net worth is an estimated $75 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.

In 2014, the good kid, m.A.a.d City rapper got candid about his biggest fear of losing money. I’ve got this thing where I’m scared I’ma lose all my money,” he told Complex. “I be talking to a few of my partners that’s doing they thing. A few of them don’t feel the same way but it’s like a real deal for me. I treat myself every now and then, but for the most part I be wanting to be smart about it. If my music were to stop today, how would I make this stretch for the rest of my life? My kid’s lifetime? Hopefully my grandkids. If I stopped today, how would I do that?”

He continued, “Of course, I treat myself but that’s always in the back of my head. This could be your last moment and your last shot to keep that revenue coming. I got a lot of people to support, a lot of people to inspire.”

Kendrick Lamar's Music Earnings

According to  Celebrity Net Worth , the 17-time Grammy Award-winner and Pulitzer Prize winner made $9 million in 2013; $9 million in 2014; $12 million in 2015; $19 million in 2016; $30 million in 2017; $60 million in 2018; and $39 million in 2019 for a total of $178 million over the course of seven years.

Kendrick’s latest album Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In 2023, The “Big Steppers Tour” became the highest-grossing rap tour of all time earning more than $110.9 million across 73 shows with nearly a million tickets sold.

Kendrick Lamar's Properties

Kendrick Lamar currently owns a $8.6 million four-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn, NY, which Drake mentioned in “Taylor Made Freestyle.” He also bought a $16 million home in LA’s Bel Air neighborhood.

Kendrick Lamar's Other Business Ventures

Kendrick Lamar has several endorsements with Reebok and Nike. In 2020, Lamar announced that launch of his “artist-friendly service company” PGLang with music producer Dave Free. “[PGLang] is not a record label, a movie studio, or a publishing house. This is something new. In this overstimulated time, we are focused on cultivating raw expression from grassroots partnerships,” Free said in a press release for the company. In 2022, news also broke that Kendrick and Free were set to produce a comedy film with  South Park  creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. According to the press release, the film will “depict the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man, who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum, discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.”

Drake and Kendrick Lamar Get Personal on Simultaneously Released Diss Tracks ‘Family Matters’ and ‘Meet the Grahams’

Kendrick Lamar Drake

The war of words wages on between Drake and Kendrick Lamar , and this time it’s personal. After the latter released his new diss track entitled “6:16 in LA” earlier this morning, both rappers dropped response tracks, one after the other, on Friday night (May 3), with Drake putting out “Family Matters” and Lamar releasing “Meet the Grahams.”

Drake was first up with “Family Matters,” where things take a very personal turn. “You mentioned my seed now deal with his dad,” begins the Toronto native on his seven-minute track. “I gotta go bad, I gotta go bad.”

Popular on Variety

On Lamar’s “Euphoria,” he name-checks a Toronto Chinese food restaurant called New Ho King, and in the video for “Family Matters,” Drake appears at the restaurant itself. “Kendrick just opened his mouth / Someone go hand him a Grammy right now / Where is your Uncle at / Cause I wanna talk to the man of the house,” he sneers.

“A cease and desist is for hoes / Can’t listen to lies that come out of your mouth / You called the Tupac estate and begged them to sue me and take that shit down,” he says. He finishes on a dark note referring to their children: “Our sons should go play at the park / Two light-skinned kids, that shit would be cute / Unless you don’t want to be seen with anyone that’s Blacker than you.”

Lamar got just as personal on “Meet the Grahams,” on which each verse is addressed directly at Drake’s family members including his son Adonis, mother Sandra, father Dennis and apparently a daughter that Drake has never addressed. “Dear Adonis, I’m sorry that that man is your father, let me be honest It takes a man to be a man, your dad is not responsive,” he begins. “I look at him and wish your grandpa woulda wore a condom / I’m sorry that you gotta grow up and then stand behind him.”

His second verse talks to his mother and father. “Dear Sandra, your son got some habits, I hope you don’t undermine them / Especially with all the girls that’s hurt inside this climate.” He moves on to his father, who he states “gave birth to a master manipulator” and claims that he “raised a horrible fuckin’ person.”

And then, he addresses a “baby girl” that he implies Drake had and has kept secret. “Should be teachin’ you timetables or watchin’ ‘Frozen’ with you / Or at your eleventh birthday, singin’ poems with you / Instead, he be in Turks, payin’ for sex and poppin’ Percs.”

This has been a whirlwind for anyone who’s been keeping tabs on the beef. It all started when Lamar fired at Drake and J. Cole on “Like That” for words on their “First Person Shooter.” The beef has since progressed at a rapid pace, involving everyone from Rick Ross and Metro Boomin to the Weeknd and Future.

Drake and Kendrick’s rap beef explained: is this a ‘forever thing’?

Simmering feud between two of hip-hop’s biggest names exploded this week, with allegations of infidelity and child sex abuse

It’s the most talked about event in pop culture right now, with experts and fans calling it “the defining hip-hop beef of the 21st century”.

The long-simmering feud between two of the world’s most famous artists – Drake and Kendrick Lamar – finally erupted this week.

“Artists taking lyrical shots at each other is keeping fans on their toes,” Joseph Patterson, editor of Complex UK and Trench magazine said.

“It’s exciting dissecting the lyrics, and it allows listeners to see their favourite rhymers in a completely different headspace. They’re able to show off their lyricism in ways that a traditional song or setting might not always afford.”

So for the uninitiated, here’s everything you need to know:

Why is everyone talking about this beef?

Drake and Lamar are two of the most successful musicians in the world. Drake , a 37-year-old Toronto rapper, has five Grammys and 29 Billboard awards under his belt. He is the most streamed male artist on Spotify of all time. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Lamar, from Compton, California, has won 17 Grammys from 50 nominations and is the only musician outside the classical and jazz genres to be awarded the Pulitzer prize.

The pair have used rapid-fire diss tracks to sling mud at each other. It began with insults but quickly took a darker turn with allegations of serious crimes such as domestic abuse and paedophilia. Both men deny any wrongdoing.

The tracks have racked up millions of streams, and Lamar’s Not Like Us is Spotify’s most streamed song at the moment, with 12m plays a day.

On Tuesday, a security guard was shot and seriously injured outside Drake’s Toronto home, which appeared on the cover art for Not Like Us (investigators are yet to determine a motive). The following day, a person was apprehended after they sought to access Drake’s home.

What’s the background?

Drake and Lamar actually began their relationship collaborating together. Their sounds are quite different: Drake incorporates a more poppy sound that appeals to mainstream audiences. Lamar’s music is more lyrical and conceptual.

In 2011, they were both predicted to become the next rap superstars after the success of their debut albums, Thank Me Later and Section.80. Drake even invited Lamar to open for him on his Club Paradise tour and the pair appeared together on tracks including Poetic Justice from Lamar’s second album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City .

But their relationship soured after Lamar featured on Big Sean’s track Control in 2013. In it, he called himself the “King of New York” and named checked contemporary rappers including Drake, saying “I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you.”

In an interview soon after, Drake responded: “I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform.”

They went on to make subtle digs at each other over the subsequent years.

When did the current tensions arise?

In March, Lamar appeared on the track Like That by rapper Future and the producer Metro Boomin. He hit back at Drake and J Cole’s collaborative single First Person Shooter, in which Cole referred to himself, Drake and Lamar as “the big three” of modern rap, saying there was no big three, “just big me”.

He also called himself the Prince to Drake’s Michael Jackson. Future and Metro Boomin went on to release two albums that featured a host of Drake’s past associates sharing a dislike of the rapper – something Drake called a “20 v 1” fight.

When did the new diss tracks drop?

On 13 April, Drake’s track Push Ups leaked. It included attacks on Lamar’s height, shoe size and business dealings. On the follow-up song, Taylor Made Freestyle, he taunted Lamar for being scared to release music at the same time as Taylor Swift.

Drake also used AI voice filters to mimic Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg imploring Lamar to properly represent the West Coast. The song was eventually removed from all platforms after Shakur’s estate threatened to sue him.

At the end of April, Lamar used his first diss track Euphoria to call Drake a “master manipulator and habitual liar”. The song also criticised Drake’s rapping, appearance, racial identity and standing as a father. Lamar claimed it was Drake’s use of his partner’s name Whitney in Push Ups that had crossed a red line.

Lamar then released a second, Instagram-only track, 6:16 in LA, in which he called Drake a “terrible person” and hinted he had a mole in Drake’s team.

That same night, Drake released Family Matters, in which he accused Lamar of domestic violence and infidelity. “They hired a crisis management team to clean up that fact that you beat on your queen,” he rapped. He also claimed one of Lamar’s children is being fathered by his business partner.

Lamar’s Meet the Grahams was released just 20 minutes later. Lamar accused Drake of being a sexual predator, and said he and Harvey Weinstein “should get fucked up in a cell for the rest of their life”. Less than 24 hours later, he followed up with Not Like Us, doubling down on his allegations of Drake’s inappropriate relationships with minors and calling him “a coloniser” for exploiting Black artists and culture.

On 5 May, Drake released The Heart Part 6, in which he denied ever being with “anyone underage” and boasted that he had planted fake information about his hidden daughter that Lamar had used.

“Both parties hit below the belt,” Patterson said. “As soon as kids were mentioned, I knew this beef would be a forever thing. If you think they’re going to one day shake hands and hang out at brunches together like Nas and Jay-Z you’re in for a shock.”

What are the criticisms?

Some have accused the rappers of using women’s pain and trauma to bolster their own reputation.

“These men are casually rapping about child sex abuse, domestic abuse and harbouring secret children that they’ve presumably known about for years, but only chose to reveal when they were fighting,” wrote Tayo Bero in the Guardian .

Estée Blu, R&B-Jazz artist and founder of Blu Wav artist wellbeing, said: “I was disturbed by the series of allegations concerning the abuse of Black women and children in particular, that have been used for entertainment purposes.”

She said the beef had highlighted “the imminent need to prioritise the safety of women” and the need for “strong and enforceable safeguarding protocols” across the music industry.

“These figures have global reach, money, power, resources and inter-generational impact that should be used more responsibly,” she said.

Breaking Down Everything Kendrick Said About Drake on “Meet the Grahams”

There’s a lot to unpack in Kendrick Lamar’s “Meet the Grahams.” Here’s a thorough analysis.

So much is happening right now. Mere minutes after Drake dropped his “Family Matters” diss song, Kendrick Lamar responded with “Meet the Grahams,” and the battlefield is now decimated.

In his nuclear response, Kendrick goes after Drake by addressing each of his immediate family members in a 6-minute song, where he accuses the Toronto rapper of having a daughter that he’s been hiding from the world, a substance addiction, a gambling addiction, engaging in various sex crimes, and several other dark revelations. The title of the song references the way Dot structures each verse, speaking directly to members of Drake’s family, and it could be a double entendre about how he possibly exposes another child of the Toronto rapper.

“Meet the Grahams” arrived very shortly after Drake accused Dot of domestic violence and infidelity in “Family Matters” on Friday night. The similarity in the subject matter (and titles) of the two songs suggests that Dot might have already known “Family Matters” was going to come out, so he prepared “Meet the Grahams” in advance.

None of the allegations on either side have been verified with concrete evidence or receipts, but before another diss track drops, here’s a full breakdown of everything Kendrick Lamar said about Drake while addressing each of his immediate family members on “Meet The Grahams.”

The cover art

drake tour money

The artwork for “Meet the Grahams” is a zoomed-out photo of the cover art for “6:16 in LA,” which now reveals even more items laid out next to each other, including a bottle of Ozempic prescribed to Drake, a business card for celebrity jeweler Nadine Ghosn (who has worked with Drake), a receipt for Popular Jewelry in New York City (a store that Drake has been seen shopping at), black leather Maybach gloves from the “6:16: in LA” cover, and a shirt.

According to DJ Akademiks , the items came from Dennis Graham's suitcase, and Kendrick somehow got a hold of it. Kendrick raps about each of these items in different ways throughout the song, saying Drake has substance and spending problems, before doubling down on claims that he uses Ozempic.

The jewelry receipts could also be a direct response to rumors that the ring featured in Drake’s “Family Matters” video was his fiancé’s engagement ring. This might be Kendrick’s way of suggesting that Drake simply bought a copy from one of his go-to jewelers, instead of getting his hands on the real thing. Alternatively, it could also connect back to Kendrick’s line on “6:16 in LA” when he rapped, “Find the jewels like Kash Doll, I just need you to think.”

The Adonis Graham Verse

Drake in concert wearing a black jacket, performing with a microphone

Kendrick dedicates the first verse of the song to directly addressing Drake’s son Adonis, as a way to speak to the rapper.

“ Sometimes our parents make mistakes that affect us until we grown/ And you a good kid that need good leadership/ Let me be your mentor, since your daddy don't teach you shit/ Never let a man piss on your leg, son ”

After offering to be the father figure that Adonis does not have, Kendrick makes references to an alleged incident in 2015 where T.I. said that his late friend urinated on Drake in the club.

“ Never fall in the escort business, that's bad religion/ Please remember, you could be a bitch even if you got bitches/ Never code switch, whether right or wrong, you a Black man/ Even if it don’t benefit your goals, do some push-ups

This is where Kendrick starts to throw around heavy accusations that Drake is involved in the escort business, while continuing to take jabs at the rapper’s biracial ethnicity. Dot is satirically saying that Adonis will grow up to be a “Black man,” so he should embrace it, unlike his father, who Kendrick is insinuating only wants to be Black when it’s convenient.

“ Get some discipline, don’t cut them corners like your daddy did/ Fuck what Ozempic did/ Don't pay to play with them Brazilians, get a gym membership/ Understand, no throwin' rocks and hidin' hands, that's law/ Don't be ashamed 'bout who you wit,' that's how he treat your moms/ Don't have a kid to hide a kid to hide again, be sure/ Five percent will comprehend but ninety-five is lost ”

First, Dot implies that Drake has had cosmetic surgery and uses the weight loss drug Ozempic. Then he advises Adonis not to “have a kid to hide a kid to hide again,” which is his way of alluding to later allegations that Drake has been hiding his first-born child this entire time. The five percent bar is a double entendre that references the Five-Percent Nation as a way to say that only five percent of listeners will fully understand the truth of his previous bar about Drake hiding another child.

The Sandra & Dennis Graham Verse

Singer performing on stage with a microphone, wearing a casual outfit with a necklace

Kendrick addresses both of Drake’s parents together in the second verse, which might be a jab in itself because the two have been separated since the rapper’s youth. Kendrick uses them as vessels to dive deeper into more serious allegations he has against Drake, including his relationships with underaged women and how he operates in the celebrity world.

“ I think niggas like him should die/ Him and Weinstein should get fucked up in a cell for the rest they life/ He hates black women, hypersexualizes them, with kinks of a nympho fetish / Grew facial hair 'cause he understood bein' a beard just fit him better/ He got sex offenders on OVO that he keep on a monthly allowance”

Kendrick makes the severe implication that Drake is similar to Harvey Weinstein, a man who has been accused of sexual assault by multiple women, saying the Toronto rapper deserves the same fate in jail. Kendrick adds that Drake “hates Black women,” which is a sentiment that’s been thrown his way many times in recent years for several reasons, including the unfavorable way he’s spoken about women like Megan Thee Stallion and Rihanna in his music for seemingly no reason.

The “sex offenders on OVO” that Kendrick is referring to could possibly be Baka Not Nice who was arrested and charged with prostituting a 22-year-old woman in 2014 (and plead guilty to assaulting her in 2015) but there’s no way to be certain.

“ I been in this industry twelve years, I'ma tell y'all one lil' secret/ It's some weird shit goin' on and some of these artists be here to police it/ They be streamlinin' victims all inside of they home and callin' em Tinder/ Then leak videos of themselves to further push their agendas ”

The music industry has been filled with stories of sexual misconduct, grooming, and other heinous crimes for decades, and Kendrick Lamar is implying that Drake has used his home for something deeply nefarious (like a sex trafficking ring), insinuating that the rapper’s leaked nude from February was being used as bait. These allegations come shortly after Diddy’s home was raided by the Department of Homeland Security while being investigated for sex trafficking.

“ Katt Williams said, ‘Get you the truths,’ so I'ma get mines / The embassy 'bout to get raided, too, it's only a matter of time/ Ayy, LeBron, keep the family away, hey, Curry, keep the family away/ To anybody that embody the love for they kids, keep the family away”

Dot references Kat Williams’ viral episode on Club Shay Shay where the comedian suggested that he knew about some of the inner workings of the entertainment industry, which is Kendrick’s way of saying that he’s now going to peel back the curtain on Drake as well. Kendrick believes that Drake’s home, dubbed “The Embassy,” is going to get investigated and raided, similar to what’s happening to Diddy right now. Then Dot warns celebrities like LeBron James and Stephen Curry (who both have daughters) not to bring their children around Drake.

The Hidden Daughter Verse

drake tour money

In one of the most salacious parts of the song, Kendrick accuses Drake of having an 11-year-old daughter that he has been hiding from the world (a claim that Drake immediately refuted on Instagram ). Kendrick also uses the verse to discuss Drake’s drug addiction and double down on calling him a deadbeat dad, similar to what Pusha-T did on “Story of Adidon.”

“ Should be teachin' you time tables or watchin' Frozen with you/ Or at your eleventh birthday, singin' poems with you/Instead, he be in Turks, payin' for sex and poppin' Percs ”

Kendrick reveals how old Drake’s alleged daughter is, making her five years older than Adonis. If the math is accurate, she would have been born right around the time Frozen came out, since the film was released in Nov. 2013. Then Kendrick says that Drake is busy going on vacations to Turks and Caicos (a destination he often raps about on songs like “Jumbotron Shit Poppin” ) and doing drugs, instead of being a present father.

“ His father prolly didn't claim him neither / History do repeats itself, sometimes it don't need a reason/ But I would like to say it's not your fault he's hidin' another child/ Give 'em grace, this the reason I made Mr. Morale/ So our babies like you can cope later ”

Once again, Kendrick suggests that Drake is an absentee dad because his own father wasn’t in his life as a child, using the same verbiage of “hiding a child” that Pusha-T did on his infamous “The Story of Adidon” diss track. Kendrick maintains his position as a therapist figure as he references his last album Mr. Morale, where he has songs like “Father Time” that directly address his own troubled upbringing with his father and how he learned to overcome his “daddy issues.”

“ I'll tell you who your father is, just play this song when it rains / Yes, he's a hitmaker, songwriter, superstar, right / And a fuckin' deadbeat that should never say ‘More life’ ”

The closing bars of this verse might be an allusion to J. Cole’s track “4 Your Eyez Only,” where he leaves a message to the daughter of his slain friend. Kendrick mirrors those sentiments to Drake’s alleged child by telling her that her father is a “hitmaker, songwriter, [and] superstar.” But this is a deeply personal diss record, so Dot closes the verse by also reminding her (and him) that he’s a deadbeat, turning Drake’s album title More Life into a double entendre against him, saying that he should never use it as a catchphrase or create any more children.

The Aubrey Verse

Silhouetted performer with arms extended on a concert stage, engaging with the audience

Kendrick saves The Boy for last, addressing his adversary directly as he explains that all of this could have been avoided if Drake never brought up his family throughout their beef.

“ Dear Aubrey, I know you probably thinkin' I wanted to crash your party / But truthfully, I don't have a hatin' bone in my body / This supposed to be a good exhibition within the game / But you fucked up the moment you called out my family's name ”

Kendrick opens the track by acknowledging that he stomped on Drake’s diss track “Family Matters” by dropping his response immediately, but clarifies that he didn’t have any real animosity towards him until Drake brought up his wife’s name on “Push Ups” when he rapped, “I be with some bodyguards like Whitney.” That bar sparked rumors that Kendrick’s wife had an affair with his bodyguard, in the same way that Whitney Houston did in The Bodyguard . Dot confirms that once his family was brought up, it stopped being a friendly match between the two.

“ You got gamblin' problems, drinkin' problems/ Pill-poppin' and spendin' problems, bad with money, whorehouse/ Solicitin' women problems, therapy's a lovely start ”

Kendrick succinctly summarizes all of his implications from earlier in the song, calling Drake a drug addict who solicits sex from women and needs therapy. Drake’s “gambling problems” have been discussed by others before, in part because of how often he works with the betting app Stake. The jewelry receipts and pill bottles on the cover artwork also feed into Kendrick’s narrative that Drake has a spending and substance problem.

“ You a body shamer, you gon' hide them baby mommas, ain't ya? You embarrassed of 'em, that's not right, that ain't how momma raised us / Take that mask off, I wanna see what's under them achievements / Why believe you? You never gave us nothin' to believe in”

On “When To Say When,” Drake rapped , “Baby mama fluke, but I love her for who she is,” and now Kendrick is implying that Drake has even more children with women that he’s ashamed to be around in public. Dot challenges Drake’s integrity and questions the persona he’s built up around himself, thanks to all of his awards and achievements. Then he goes into all of the things he believes Drake has lied about, including his religious beliefs, referring to Drake putting out a massive hit “God’s Plan” before more recently questioning his faith on “Wick Man.”

“ You lied about your son, you lied about your daughter, huh/ You lied about them other kids that's out there hopin' that you come/ You lied about the only artist that can offer you some help/ Fuck a rap battle, this a long life battle with yourself ”

Kendrick closes the track by planting even more seeds about Drake being a liar and having children that the public doesn’t know about. Then he brings the song full circle by saying that Drake lied about him and his family throughout their back-and-forth, which is what forced Dot’s hand to get extremely personal and say “fuck a rap battle.”

Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s feud got heated and ugly. Here’s what happened.

The rappers’ beef dramatically escalated over the weekend.

It was one of the wildest weekends in hip-hop history: two heavyweight rappers, five new diss tracks, one music video and millions of fans either squirming or holding popcorn as it all went down.

Since Friday, Drake and Kendrick Lamar have released songs aimed at each other at a rapid clip, igniting pro-sports levels of spectating and driving hip-hop media personalities into overtime.

A feud between the two rappers has simmered for years, but the heat turned up in March after Lamar took direct aim at Drake and J. Cole in a guest verse on “Like That,” a track on the Future and Metro Boomin album “We Don’t Trust You.”

At first it was a free-for-all : Cole released a response track before retracting it 48 hours later. A bevy of hip-hop figures entered the fray, including Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky and producer Metro Boomin, who offered a free beat to the person who recorded the best verse for “BBL Drizzy” — a track the producer released on SoundCloud to poke fun at Drake.

The Style section

But Drake vs. Lamar remained the main event. In April, Drake responded with a pair of diss tracks, including one that used A.I. to re-create the voices of Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg and triggered a legal threat. (Drake pulled the song.) And Lamar fired back with a dense, six-minute epic, “Euphoria,” that called Drake a scam artist and an absent father.

Many users on social media have reveled in the feud, declaring that it’s restored urgency to hip-hop and elevated each rapper’s artistry. “Kendrick got Drake to rap like it matters again and Drake got Kendrick to drop consistently,” one user commented on Instagram . “we eating so good (right now).”

This weekend extended that excitement — but also marked a darker turn in the feud, with Lamar and Drake lodging serious accusations against each other. It was a showcase for two of the most acclaimed rappers of their generation, an unburdening of long-steeping resentments and a tangle of insinuation and innuendo. Information-rich (fans quickly worked to decode every bar) and likely misinformation-dense (with the rappers denying some of each other’s claims), it was a classic rap feud with a very modern flavor. Here, track by track, is what fans heard.

Kendrick Lamar drops “6:16 in LA”

Days after dropping “Euphoria,” Lamar released an Instagram-only single called “6:16 in LA” — a callback to Drake’s timestamp tracks (like “8am in Charlotte”). Internet sleuths applied Swiftie-grade levels of scrutiny to the release, suggesting alternate explanations: A reference to Tupac’s birthday on June 16, perhaps; the day the late O.J. Simpson’s trial started in 1995; Canadian Father’s Day (Drake is Canadian); the date of Lamar’s last tour stop in Drake’s hometown of Toronto; and the series premiere date of HBO’s “Euphoria,” which Drake executive produces.

“6:16 in LA” samples an Al Green ballad and is co-produced by Taylor Swift’s frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff — a tongue-in-cheek response to Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle,” in which he taunted Lamar for collaborating with pop artists like Swift.

In the song, Lamar warns that he’s war-ready, accuses Drake of hiding behind memes and Twitter bots and even stokes intrigue about Drake’s inner circle.

“Have you ever thought that OVO is workin’ for me? Fake bully, I hate bullies, you must be a terrible person. Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it,” Lamar raps, suggesting that there’s a mole among Drake’s friends and affiliates of his brand October’s Very Own. “Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it.”

Drake releases “Family Matters”

Hours later, Drake responded with “Family Matters,” a 7-minute track that directly insults Lamar, Metro Boomin and the Weeknd — though most of his ire is directed at the Compton rapper. The song claims that Lamar called Tupac’s estate to have Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle” removed from content platforms. It also accused Lamar of putting on activist airs.

“Always rapping like you ’bout to get the slaves freed,” Drake raps. “You just acting like a activist, it’s make believe. Don’t even go back to your hood and plant no money trees.”

But in some of the song’s most serious accusations, Drake made specific allegations about Lamar and his longtime partner, Whitney Alford, involving domestic violence and infidelity. Publicists for Lamar did not immediately respond to The Washington Post’s email requests for comment.

In the song’s accompanying music video , imagery shows a car crusher destroying a Dodge Caravan, which resembles the one featured in the cover art of Lamar’s acclaimed album “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.”

Lamar immediately follows with “Meet the Grahams”

Fans and hip-hop media had less than an hour to digest “Family Matters” when Lamar circled back with “Meet the Grahams,” a song in which the rapper speaks directly to Drake, his parents and his son, Adonis.

The track, layered over an eerie piano beat, involved allegations regarding Drake’s rumored relationships and family.

In another verse, Lamar tells famous NBA stars to stay away from Drake and his team: “Ay, LeBron, keep the family away, hey, Curry, keep the family away / To anybody that embody the love for they kids, keep the family away / They lookin’ at you too if you standin’ by him, keep the family away.”

And again with “Not Like Us”

Lamar wasn’t done. Less than 24 hours passed before he was back again with “Not Like Us” — a catchy West Coast hip-hop song that accused Drake’s team of criminal behavior and went harder at insulting the Canadian rapper, going so far as to accuse him of pedophilia.

In another verse, Lamar continues: “Ain’t you tired? Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A-Minor.”

Publicists for Drake did not immediately respond to The Post’s email requests for comment.

The song grabbed hold of the internet, with many fans declaring it an instant bop for a rapper who has been known for his conscious and cerebral rap rather than commercial and club hits like Drake’s.

Footage uploaded to social media over the weekend showed DJs playing “Not Like Us” in clubs. Other fans overlaid the track’s audio onto various hip-hop dance videos.

Drake fires back with “The Heart Part 6”

Just as Sunday came to a close, Drake had the final word (for now), releasing “The Heart Part 6” — a callback to Lamar’s own five-part “The Heart” series of songs. In the nearly six-minute rap, Drake denied the allegations that Lamar had thrown against him, while also claiming that he and his team had fooled Lamar’s camp into thinking Drake had another secret child.

“We plotted for a week and then we fed you the information/a daughter that’s 11 years old, I bet he takes it,” Drake raps. “We thought about giving a fake name or a destination. But you so thirsty, you not concerned with investigation.”

Drake also referenced abuse that Lamar opened up about in a past song. “Ahh, wait a second, that’s that one record where you say you got molested,” Drake raps. “ … I just made the whole connection. This about to get so depressin’. This is trauma from your own confessions.”

While their feud has long turned ugly, many users felt that Drake’s reference to molestation was a new low. They also say he misinterpreted Lamar’s song “Mother I Sober,” which references abuse his mother experienced as a child.

“Drake taking a song about Molestation and making it a joke is tone deaf,” one user wrote on X.

In a tweet , Drake further provoked Lamar: “And we know you’re dropping 6 mins after so instead of posting my address you have a lot to address.”

Lamar so far has not responded. But for now, many fans and music outlets have already declared Lamar as the victor. The crown goes to Compton, Rolling Stone proclaimed.

“Safe to say Kendrick Lamar already won,” one X user wrote. While another user on Instagram suggested Drake buried his own grave. “Admitting that you had to plot with your [people] to take down Kendrick is admitting you lost.”

Taking the toll of Drake and Kendrick Lamar's vicious, gripping psychological warfare

Kendrick Lamar performs during the Rolling Loud hip-hop festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 2023 and Drake performs during Day 2 of Lollapalooza Chile 2023. Last week, the two rappers' long-running feud exploded in a flurry of diss tracks.

In the waning moments of Drake 's "The Heart Part 6," the isolated Toronto plutocrat, deflated and humbled, waves the white flag. With the latest song (at the time this was written) in a string of diss tracks on which he has butted heads with Kendrick Lamar , dating back to March, when Lamar appeared on Future and Metro Boomin 's "Like That," he seems to all but tip over his king on the chessboard, but not before complaining about the rules of engagement: "Just let me know when we're gettin' to the facts / Everything in my s*** is facts / I'm waitin' on you to return the favor," he says, addressing Kendrick directly.

Can rap beef exist when no one agrees on what's being fought for?

Can rap beef exist when no one agrees on what's being fought for?

On 'Euphoria,' Kendrick Lamar is Drake's biggest hater — and proud of it

Kendrick Lamar is Drake's biggest hater — and proud of it

There are no favors in beef, and one of Drake's great miscalculations in this situation was thinking that he and Kendrick were playing the same game. In pursuit of the scandalous scoop, both artists seemed to lose sight of the opponent, thinking primarily about the impressions. When Pusha T changed the state of play for Drake — and the rest of us — forever with "The Story of Adidon," which turned the classic battler form into a Maury episode, he opened the door for "truth-telling" as an effective mode in an arena made for tricksters and spin artists. This has led to a rap climate that mirrors our political one — disinformation campaigns and murky intelligence coloring perception wars waged online, as isolated audiences filtered into the same arena to spectate. But they weren't just bearing witness, they were taking part.

For years now, the archetypes that Drake and Kendrick Lamar embody have been fixed in public opinion. On To Pimp a Butterfly 's "Hood Politics," Kendrick, our era's chosen rap sage, presented himself as a galvanizing force: "Less you askin' me about power, yeah, I got a lot of it / I'm the only n**** next to Snoop that can push the button," he rapped, as if in command of a cultural nuclear arsenal. On For All the Dogs ' "Stories About My Brother," Drake, the perpetually paranoid rap king, seemed to look out over his castle walls and see an impending siege: "N***** so down bad, they makin' alliances up / Cliquin' up with haters that was thinkin' of signin' to us," he rapped, implying a mutiny was afoot, orchestrated by a cabal of envious, impotent debtors.

Both of those perceived realities came to a striking head over the weekend, as a bubbling feud between the two biggest rappers of a generation reached its tipping point. In a new turn for this kind of exercise, the final exchanges between them played out at breakneck speed, with songs disseminated as YouTube links or posted straight to social media. It's a beef that expected a certain inside-baseball knowledge, and even then your mileage may vary depending on how familiar you are with names like Chubbs, Cash, Duval Timothy or Dave Free, and what Delilah means to you. But that tangle of background players could not disrupt the mass appeal of such a furiously entertaining sequence of attacks from the headliners.

When Kendrick released the frenzied rant raps of "euphoria" last Tuesday, it could have been another relatively isolated shot across a frosty battlefield, but then he took a page from the Drake playbook, not waiting for a response before following with the accusatory, clock-watching Instagram exclusive "6:16 in LA" on Friday morning, starting a chain of five songs released in a 72-hour span. That night, Drake dropped the epic heel turn "Family Matters," only to have all momentum undercut by the Kendrick response, the morose intervention "meet the grahams," which was out less than an hour later. With the upper hand, Kendrick doubled up again by dropping the floating, coast-rallying knockout punch "Not Like Us" Saturday afternoon; Drake's unofficial concession arrived Sunday night. Across these songs, Kendrick overwhelmed his opponent with a blitzing game plan, and the story he told was more compelling than Drake's.

Charting the beef and assessing its blast radius tells us a lot about how rap drama in 2024 feeds off narrative distortion. As a neutral observer long critical of Drake, I found something about this whole thing exhausting. From the beginning, the terms of it pointed in a specific direction: the built-in projections of the two stars overlapping in perfect harmony to cast a particular judgment against him. (I wrote weeks ago that playing this game could only diminish him.)

There is some tension between what Drake is owed and what he deserves. He has been too omnipresent, too excessive, too unprincipled, and his machinelike consumption at the commercial apex of hip-hop's food chain has bred a lingering desire to see him shamed and discredited. Kendrick, as a more private figure with a scrappy disposition and a perceived moral authority, is the perfect candidate for such a ceremonial execution. It was fair for Drake, having learned the importance of oppo research from his battle with Pusha, to believe that, in playing the game on those terms, he would be graded on the same scale, and the truth of that puts me in an uncomfortable alignment with the self-proclaimed 6 God, who should be taken down a peg (or two) after stepping on everyone else on his way to the top.

The bad blood between these two traces back more than a decade, to Kendrick's frag grenade verse on Big Sean 's "Control," which prompted a yearslong cold war between the artists as they became heavyweights in different spheres. Drake was drawn into open conflict with Kendrick now, not simply by the "Like That" verse, which was more of a scattershot than a snipe, but by a throng of former Drake collaborators rallying around producer Metro Boomin in its wake to share his disdain: The Weeknd , Rick Ross and A$AP Rocky have all taken their whacks as if lining up beneath a piñata. In view of this onslaught, Drake used his initial response, "Push Ups," to reframe the attacks as peons revolting against their master, and he framed his purported lead over Kendrick as a numbers game, his usual tactic. Cocksure and swaggering, he depicted Kendrick's former TDE label boss Top as a slave driver to whom the rapper was still paying dues. Drake suggested that all of the acclaim Kendrick has received was merely to spite him, and he ended with a comparative analysis of the two stars as mainstays and earners.

By this stage, J. Cole , the other (lesser) target of Kendrick's "Like That" verse, had bowed out of any potential conflict and left his two peers to hash it out themselves. The move affirmed what some of us already suspected: That beef is only for a particular kind of unrelenting rapper, and that Drake and Kendrick, as the two left in the ring, solidified their dyadic bond at rap's poles. The beef became about awareness early on — Cole realized his limits, and Drake saw an opportunity. With "Push Ups," he put Kendrick in the middle of a conspiracy to unseat him as the sole rap front-runner, situating his rival within the rest of the pack ("You ain't in no big three, SZA got you wiped down / Travis got you wiped down / Savage got you wiped down") and implying that he was only emboldened by the strength in numbers.

Believing he had the high ground, Drake circled back with "Taylor Made Freestyle," a bizarre bit of roleplay in which he donned voice filters for Kendrick's OGs, Tupac and Snoop Dogg , trying to goad him into a response, suggesting the Compton MC wanted out of a squabble he started. A cease-and-desist from the Tupac estate got the song taken down from social platforms, which felt like a mercy for all of us — not only was it cringe-worthy and stilted, it felt particularly poorly timed .

It took nearly two weeks for Kendrick to finally respond with the venomous "euphoria" last week, but he immediately shifted the stakes from pissing contest to grudge match. Kendrick identified a demarcation line between them as artists ("electrifying vs. pacifying," explaining away the numbers disparity) before presenting himself as the inheritor of all of Drake's ongoing beefs, including those of Pusha and Pharrell Williams , drawing from that well of negativity to boost his own spite. "This ain't been about critics, not about gimmicks, not about who the greatest / It's always been about love and hate, now let me say: I'm the biggest hater," he taunts before rattling off everything Drizzy does to irritate him: the way he talks and dresses, the sneak dissing, the use of ghostwriters, his depoliticized and convenient relationship with his Blackness. The song's rambling quality is fueled by the intensity of its animus, which turned what once felt like unnecessary playacting into unavoidable score-settling.

Kendrick's designation of Drake as a "master manipulator" in "euphoria" was a psychological ploy to paint Drake as the deceiver facing a straight shooter, which set the table for "6:16 in LA." In the wake of Drake's AI identity swap, the song took advantage of what felt like an unscrupulous embrace of manipulation technology, saying Drake is running a rap PSYOP online to defame him, one that couldn't even work because Kendrick is in the streets, beyond the reach of the internet, and because those in Drake's employ are plotting his demise.

You can hear warnings on both Kendrick songs not to "take it there" — "there" being the crossed boundary of "fabricated family stories" — because he would take it further. Drake did not heed them: The multi-part muckraking "Family Matters" is a layered, if grim, attempt to penetrate a seemingly impenetrable reputation by pulling the thread at its center. Locked in and blustering, he tries to undermine Kendrick's high-minded image by stripping him of his activist bonafides (something Kendrick all but abandoned on his last album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers ), and, true to Kendrick's prediction, attacking on the homefront, punctuated by accusations that Kendrick abused his partner. It's an impressive attempt, demonstrating Drake at the peak of his technical and narrative powers — versatile, vindictive and machiavellian.

But before the weight of those allegations could really take hold, "meet the grahams" had dropped a bigger bomb: With listless energy seemingly built to undercut the gleefully malicious tone of "Family Matters," its verses directly address Drake's parents, his son, a faceless daughter that Kendrick suggests Drake has been neglecting and, finally, Drake himself. The tactic within the song itself isn't far from Pusha's, but its effectiveness is in its counteroffensive, the speed and sharpness of the rebuttal, its prescience and its outward omniscience. The maneuver itself was masterful.

And yet it took Kendrick only a few hours to one-up himself with "Not Like Us." The song seemed to hammer home the highlights from previous disses — Drake's weird relationships with underage girls, the sus-ness and dysfunction of his OVO crew, his extensive history as swag "colonizer" in Atlanta — as Kendrick reps Compton and America, pitting Drake as a cultural interloper, all while using his own strategy of generating a diss your adversary will be forced to hear out in the club. By this point, you could hear victory in Kendrick's voice, embodying all the showboating of a bat flip after a walk-off home run. It's impossible to bounce back from being called a groomer and a carpetbagger over a slapping Mustard beat that sounds as if it's conjuring the spirits of West Coast legends. As a response, "The Heart Part 6" couldn't sound more foiled and defensive.

By the rapid volley that defined this beef over the weekend, nothing was too illicit for mudslinging. It didn't really matter what was true, only what could draw the biggest reaction. That has always been the nature of beef, but the sadism is now amplified by our endless gaggle of livestreaming armchair clout stalkers and bloodthirsty digital storm chasers. (There were many moments where real-time discourse seemed to be shaping the beef, Akademiks debuted the CDQ version of "Push Ups" when it leaked, and commentators like DJ Vlad seemed to be hovering around the periphery.) The pageant is more consequential than the rapping now. Eventually, the one-upmanship was predominantly theatrical and, sadly, the women on both sides — Whitney Alford, Sandra Graham, Rihanna , Millie Bobby Brown and all the unnamed others treated as asides — became collateral damage in a dirt-digging operation with no purpose beyond keeping score. Whether or not lines were crossed (if you want to say so I wouldn't hold it against you), the slander isn't really about accountability at all; it is merely about the attention grabbed by greater and greater provocation. Even if everything they said was true, neither man would see the other held responsible for his actions, as evidenced by the ways they've dealt with the abusers they already know .

If there is any fact that has been truly revealed by all this, it is that Drake fatigue is real and palpable, not just among rappers but listeners as well, and most don't care what the repercussions of seeing him fall are. When Kendrick rapped that he represented what the culture was feeling on "euphoria," the response seemed to bear that out in earnest. I would make a case for "Family Matters" as the best song and diss to come out of this whole thing (with there being a strong argument for "Not Like Us," too), but Drake is operating from a disadvantage and his problems are twofold: He is the more known commodity with glaring flaws that have been talking points on the record for years, and many are simply ready to see him lose no matter what he does.

That shouldn't be read as a defense of Drake. There are no rules in beef, and the blowback here is the result of years of chickens coming home to roost for one of rap's most unsavory characters, his many calculated heel turns establishing the cottage industry of solitude he formed at the top. As much as anything, this is a lesson in reaping what is sowed. But it is interesting that, as everyone collectively decided the basis for this beef would be "facts," one rapper faced a higher burden of proof than the other.

Beneath the more sensational claims made by both artists were open secrets that still need addressing on both sides. Drake called into question Kendrick's moral superiority and his radical positioning. Consult his comments on Mike Brown, or his support of R. Kelly , or his own albums absolving Michael Jackson or signal-boosting Kodak Black. Kendrick called into question Drake's predatory behavior and a creative opportunism ceaselessly in service of self-interest. It is the latter that not only brought this barrage to Drake's doorstep in the first place but also induced a noxious atmosphere where everything he says feels like self-serving agitprop, and that is why he is now slouching back to his corner defeated.

Stakes Is High: Drake Ghostwriting Accusations Matter More Than You Think

With this beef more or less settled for the audience, it does seem like the appropriate time to reevaluate the general rules of engagement. I, for one, do not want the form to devolve into a game of feed-dumping, rewarding whoever can turn around songs the quickest or best harness the power of an algorithmic skew toward the sensational. The public decides who wins these, and if the public is scrolling, we're doomed. I'd like to see less "fact-finding," and let's do away with the AI stunts.

But if you can forget about the ramifications for a second, it's hard not to walk away from the experience somewhat invigorated simply because it feels like we've finally introduced some suspense back into the rap race. Clashes of this magnitude are rare. What began as histrionics became something more; for a time it even felt revelatory, and now perhaps hip-hop can experience entropy again. No matter what else is true or untrue, the circumstances set in motion were real. How else do we get Kendrick to take a break from invocation to just get busy? How else do we get a long-overdue Drake humbling? Only the spectacle of a spat this suggestive and high-profile could so dramatically upend the state of affairs — for better and worse. Perhaps some rules must be broken, some chaos instigated, to avoid the game feeling rigged forever.
