I hope she reads this. SO lemme spill the tea. It was freaking amazing. I was so close I could see ever pore on her, and lemme tell you there isn’t many. She’s so amazing and I felt the show ran pretty smoothly except for the fact that it was very hot and everyone around you was sweating their ass off. But she was great. Best night of my life seeing the love of my life. She was so good and it was so beautiful if she ever were to return I would be there in a heart beat. Though the initial show was cancelled I wasn’t one bit mad after attending this one and it was really nice that my old tickets still were valid. Thanks dua, love you lots. -your biggest fan:)

It was the most lit concert i had ever attended. Dua was so full of life & super hyped for the whole concert. Im still upset that yesterday had come to an end way too soon. The most memorable memory i had was the moment she teared uo in her speech for 'New Love' as that song was way too genuine and its from the most vulnerable side of hers. The next memorable moment was the participation in 'IDGAF'the crowd was so wild, and Dua also had a moment with us when she remixed the sentence 'I dont give a F' like amazing man this is the most mesmerising concert i had ever attended. I love you Dua. (heartsheartshearts)

Oh, wow. Dua Lipa was absolutely fantastic! She is extraordinarily talented and really knows how to work a crowd. The band was brilliant — and I can say it was definitely loud enough!

I was very lucky to see her at a venue such as the Apollo. Such a small venue for somebody doing an arena tour! We got the tickets very early on, before she became massive, and I’m very glad we did.

The whole way home I was smiling. The last song — New Rules — set the place on fire, that last chorus was insanely good, and all complete with confetti canons!

Thank you for the time, Dua Lipa! Money well-spent; it was worth every second!

A Comprehensive Guide To Dua Lipa’s European Summer

This summer, Dua Lipa takes to the stage once again, brining her Future Nostalgia Tour to Europe. After kicking off things in Miami earlier this year, the tour continued playing in areas throughout the European nation until early August, when she’ll take a break before finally dropping the curtain in Perth, Australia this November 2022. Back in action, the singer has received rave reviews for her performance, as well as her fashion choices and jaunts around the world’s most popular European cities like Paris, Florence, and Barcelona.

“When I’m touring, I always like to get out and do some touristy things: I don’t like the feeling of having been somewhere and only seen the inside of an arena,” Lipa said in a recent interview in the Financial Times . Which works for fans, considering she filled Instagram feeds with nothing but cool new restaurants, iconic architecture, as well as swoon-worthy outfits to steal. Her weekly newsletter, service95 , was also a blessing as it contained an endless array of the singer’s recommendations, hot takes, and cultural trends. While Lipa typically only had a few days to spend in each city, and a massive performance to give to boot, she still managed to make the most of her downtime. Dublin, Ireland

While the European leg of the tour kicked off in Lipa’s hometown in London, the second stop on the tour was held in Ireland. After exploring the beautiful Irish countryside, the singer headed to Dublin where she grabbed cocktails with friends at the Vintage Cocktail Club and Peruke & Periwig . In her editor’s letter for service95, she gushed over the gorgeous architecture, history, and some of her favorite Irish pubs including Grogans and Toners Pub. After throwing back a pint or two, she feasted on fish and chips at the Fish Shop before dining at another celeb-favorite restaurant, Hugo’s , for authentic Irish cuisine.

Berlin, Germany

In a recent service95 newsletter, Lipa wrote, “If you were wandering the streets of Berlin this past week, you may have seen me strolling and soaking in one of my favorite European cities — a vibrant and eclectic hub for food, art, and some of the best nights out I’ve ever had.” After performing in the Mercedes Benz arena, the singer was spotted enjoying the art scene at the city's Boros Bunker and the Helmut Newton Foundation . After doing a bit of shopping at the Mauerpark Flea Market , she stopped for a bite at Burgermeister for the best burger in Berlin, Lavanderia Vecchia for pasta, and Ernst for a Michelin-starred meal.

Paris, France

Upon finishing her set at the Accor Arena, the star spent the weekend parading around Paris with designer Simon Porte Jacquemus and natural wine enthusiast Ochin Clovis at La Chope des Artistes — a French restaurant that posted a pic of the crew with the clever caption, “One sip is all it takes.” As a natural wine enthusiast herself, Lipa never visits Paris without stopping by her favorite natural wine bar Yard Paris , or hitting up her favorite ice cream joint — that also subsequently serves wine — called Folderol . When she's not sipping on vino, the singer can be seen enjoying food at Les Enfants Du Marché or Le Servan . Top it off with a couple of pics posing in front of the Eiffel Tower, a visit to the Louvre , and a star-studded soirée at Balenciaga’s Couture Dinner hosted at Hôtel de la Marine and you have yourself a Dua Lipa-approved trip to Paris.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

“Since childhood, I’ve been coming to Amsterdam quite regularly — more times than I count — because my mother’s side of the family lives here,” writes Lipa in a service95 newsletter. After revisiting the country on tour, the singer was spotted visiting some of her favorite cafes, like De Plantage and Winkel 43 , “For the sweetest apple pie she’s ever tried,” explains the newsletter. After renting a boat to explore the city via canal, the sports queen played a round of pickleball at Padel Next before finishing her trip with a final meal at Restaurant De Kas — a Michelin-starred restaurant praised for its locally sourced and sustainably grown food.

Florence, Italy

Checking in to the Belmond Hotel Splendido , Lipa and her model friend, Sarah Lysander, posted a series of photos from their hotel room balconies, doing yoga in the gardens, and dining al fresco. After a relaxing few days on the coast, the team headed south to Firenze, Florence. She arranged for a private tour of the Uffizi Galleries where she marveled over paintings by Botticelli, including the Birth of Venus. Finishing the tour, the singer went to the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi for an Aperol Spritz, had classic Italian cuisine at Trattoria Cammillo , and finished the night with some local gelato, where she jokingly wrote in an Instagram post, “At this point, my blood has turned into Gelato.”

Barcelona, Spain

After reuniting with her friend and natural wine sommelier, Ochin Clovis, the pair stopped by Gresca Restaurant to sip some vino and enjoy a selection of Tapas, like Iberico Jamon with caviar. Of course, her appetite didn’t stop there. Lipa also posted an Instagram photo of her dining on panchino (a fluffy bun stuffed with caviar) at Disfrutar , ranked number 5 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurant list. After satisfying her taste buds, the singer took in the sights exploring some of Barcelona’s most famous architecture like Sagrada Familia , Casa Batlló , and the modern art museum Fundació Joan Miró .

Lisbon, Portugal

Lipa explored the cobble-stone paved walkways of Lisbon with her BFF, Olive Ensley, where she took pics before her night out in front of the city’s iconic tram. After doing a bit of shopping at Casa das Vellas Loreto , a hand-crafted candle shop that has been around since 1789, she enjoyed reading a book while lounging poolside and eating gelato. As an avid art enthusiast, the ladies headed over to see one of Portugal's most famous artists, Paula Rego, at the Paula Rego House of Stories . Lipa and her team covered a deep dive into the artist’s work in her newsletter, highlighting Rego’s most famous painting depicting an illegal abortion. Her visceral paintings were believed to have influenced Portugal’s abortion discrimination bill in 2007 as well as sparked other political conversations thanks to her works, which are on display in Cascais.

Stockholm, Sweden

Come summer, Stockholm moves outdoors to take advantage of the longer days and late evening sunsets. Just a t10-minute ferry ride away from the main city, the singer hit the stage at Gröna Lund, a famous Swedish Amusement park — which she later enjoyed at night after hours with friends and family. In her downtime, Lipa enjoyed a relaxing day with her family yachting around the Swedish archipelago. Then she bordered a flight to her next destination, but not before stopping by the Moomin shop (a cartoon character from a popular Scandinavian book series) to purchase a mug (she has an impressive collection) for her afternoon tea.

Copenhagen, Denmark

After her tour de France, the English pop star headed over to Denmark to perform in the Roskilde Festival — better known as Scandanavia's largest music event. There she was joined by another famous headliner, Post Malone, who stuck around after the performance to team up with Lipa for what can only be described as Europe’s most epic (and probably only) game of beer pong against Turnstile. The next day, the singer submerged to cure her hangover with a couple of courses of food. While breakfast sandwiches and chicken fingers run the gamut for most of us, in “An attempt at being a food blogger,” Lipa joked in an Instagram post, she headed to Noma , one of the most coveted restaurants on the planet thanks to its number one spot on the World’s Best Restaurant List . A justified prize after a successful performance and round of BP.

Dua Lipa’s New Tour Look Is All Sequins and Sass

Dua Lipa has been a fan of The Attico for some time. Founders Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio have supplied the star with various party staples in recent years, from mesh dresses to the brand’s cult Devon mules and a cow-print bra that she wore for her #ranchcore “Love Again” music video. 

Well, on June 30, the “Sweetest Pie” singer took to the stage at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark wearing a sequined lime-green minidress with midriff-flossing side cut-outs, fishnet tights, and silky green ankle boots, picked by her stylist Lorenzo Posocco.

The Attico team joined Dua’s dad Dukagjin Lipa and her yoga guru Anabella Landa – aka Annie Moves – to watch Dua’s performance, and shared clips of her greatest hits on Instagram. Posocco was in attendance too and posted a carousel of videos capturing her set on his feed. 

Posocco has curated countless looks for the singer’s world tour , name-checking independent and big-name brands along the way. Recent off-duty highlights include a ruffled Diesel dress from Glenn Martens’s Resort 2023 collection, denim Prada separates, a flippy Chopova Lowena skirt, and a zingy neon green dress by Coperni .

Dua Lipa Announces Highly Anticipated North American Future Nostalgia Tour

Today, global pop superstar Dua Lipa announced the North American leg of her highly anticipated  Future Nostalgia Tour  for 2022, in support of the Grammy-winning album of the same name. The arena tour makes 28 stops across the US, including Dua’s first ever headline show at Madison Square Garden in New York City and the iconic Forum in Los Angeles. The  Future Nostalgia Tour  will also feature support from Caroline Polachek and Lolo Zouaï, with Megan Thee Stallion joining on select dates, full list of tour stops and lineups below. Tickets and VIP upgrade packages go on sale beginning Friday, September 17 th  at 12PM local  here .

“I’m so thrilled to tour again and see my angels in person! The “Dance the Night” singer, 28, was spotted locking arms with Turner, 34, while walking in New York City during their date night.

Lipa walked behind the “Masters of Air” star as she hugged him from behind, putting her hands inside the pockets of his jacket.

Turner sported a burgundy leather jacket and a pair of black jeans. He kept the look casual with a simple white sneaker.

Lipa also wore black denim, which she paired with a black leather jacket and black pumps. She also wore a colorful yellow-and-orange top.

The Friday night rendezvous came one day after the couple was spotted at the annual Time 100 Gala .

Dua Lipa: ‘If It’s Not Fun, I Don’t Want It’

For the queen of the dance floor and everyone’s big sister, life is only worth living if you’re having a good time.

The first time Dua Lipa went clubbing, she was just a wisp of a tween girl in Kosovo. The UK-born pop star realizes how absurd it sounds as she explains it. Seated in her home office in London, flanked by shelves teeming with books, she thumbs through her phone for a blurry image of a photo from that fateful night—as if to prove to the two of us that it did indeed happen. At the center of the photo is a young Lipa dressed in white crochet, smiling brightly next to her much taller cousin and an entourage of stylish women.

Clubbing is a Lipa family tradition; it’s also why she wasn’t fazed when, while out one night on New York City’s Lower East Side with Charli XCX, she ran into her parents partying at The Box. “We celebrate everything and anything, and we just love a party,” she explains. “When I go to my aunt’s house, it all starts off pretty tame....Then the music comes on, and we’re all dancing in the house. And that’s a Tuesday!”

Now 28, Lipa has since made a name for herself as Britain’s leading lady of disco. On the dance floor, she plays an almighty oracle, a savvy young agony aunt for lovelorn club kids, desperate for the sobering real talk she’s dispensed in hits like “New Rules” and “Don’t Start Now.”

But long before she penned feminist electro-pop smashes that now stream by the billions, her family knew her as just Dua, their precocious eldest daughter who left Kosovo as a teen to fulfill her pop star dreams by herself in London. That’s when she fully harnessed what she calls her “big sister energy” in her life and music; one can hear it now in the unshakable authority with which she sings her songs.

“She is such a big sister,” says songwriter Caroline Ailin, who first recognized Lipa’s insightful nature when they met almost a decade ago. “You process your feelings [with her], but you also walk away feeling empowered.”

In the time she spent shaping her new album, Lipa decided she would first take her own advice and start calling all the shots: in her career, in her love life, and in her image. In 2022, she ended her longtime partnership with management and publishing company TaP Music, whose roster includes outsider divas like Lana Del Rey and Caroline Polachek. Lipa subsequently hired her father as her manager and bought back the rights and masters for her entire catalog.

In February, Lipa inaugurated her liberated new era at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Gracing the red carpet in a custom Courrèges chain mail gown, her dyed red tresses cascading past her shoulders, she channeled a dauntless warrior queen. That night, she debuted the single “Training Season,” a new song from Radical Optimism . A jaunty disco track with theatrical flourishes of acoustic guitars, synthesizers, and live drums, it shows Lipa ramping up her bravado. “Don’t wanna have to teach you how to love me right,” she sings, issuing a notice to any less-than-suitable suitors looking to waste her time: She’s in the big leagues now. “I had gone into the studio and just said the line, ‘Training season’s over!’” Lipa recalls.

Written in November 2022, “Training Season” is a reflection on a string of dates and long-term relationships, mostly set up by her friends. Lipa’s previous relationships include Bella and Gigi’s brother Anwar Hadid, and French director Romain Gavras; more recently, she was spotted vacationing in Mexico with British actor Callum Turner . “As long as everyone knows where they stand, then you’re good,” she says with a shrug.

She speaks only obliquely of her love life these days, preferring to drop hints in song. “I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to write down what I want,’” she says of “Training Season.” “The power of manifestation and writing things into existence with the power of words. When you know your worth, you know what you want and what you don’t want.”

“I was talking about this with one of my dancers today, because she was going through a breakup—when I was single, I didn’t wish it away. You learn so much about yourself, you know, whether it’s going on a date or spending that time alone. In the silence, you figure out who you really are,” she says. “In the grand scheme of things, I was doing research.”

R adical Optimism was formulated with a crack team of co-songwriters and producers: Ailin, her trusted writer; Tobias Jesso Jr., hitmaker for Adele and Harry Styles; and Danny L Harle, PC Music alumnus and self-described “rave consultant.” As a massive fan of the Australian psych act Tame Impala, Lipa also tapped bandleader Kevin Parkerto join her crew in London. “We called it The Band,” Parker says. “Not an old-school band, but a spiritual band. Each morning going into the studio, I felt like I was in the Beatles!”

Inspired in part by the freedom-seeking spirit underpinning UK club culture, R adical Optimism dovetails neatly with the recent resurgence of two nu-disco queens who rocked the clubs in the Y2K era: Kylie Minogue, who came back hard last year with “Padam Padam”; and of course Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose “Murder on the Dancefloor” needle drop in Saltburn landed her on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time ever. In Radical Optimism , Lipa brings together live and electronic instruments to fashion her own global groove. The result is a cosmopolitan dance-pop record with a 1970s flair, and a vibrant, resounding affirmation of life.

“Dua had this focus on finding this sound, which was so elusive,” Parker adds. “But it was nice to be in the engine room of the creative process, rather than worry about being the face of it. It was the experience that I’ve been waiting for.”

“Houdini,” the first single off the album, was born shortly after Parker teased out a bass line that he’d recorded for himself, weeks before their studio sessions. Lipa was quick to put her own stamp on it, introducing a moody post-disco melody. “She started singing, and it just immediately made sense,” Parker says. “This feeling of early-’80s sleaze, in some strange, dark, sweaty club. Gloriously suffocating. Hypnotic.”

Ailin has worked with Lipa since before they penned, along with Emily Warren and Ian Kirkpatrick, her 2017 breakout hit, “New Rules”—a dance-worthy laundry list of what-not-to-dos when an ex comes orbiting back around post-breakup. Venting about real life, Ailin explains, became essential to their creative process: “We have a little yap about what’s going on, and from that it turns into a pop song.” Lipa’s moments of unmanicured catharsis, Ailin says, are what yield her most penetrating lyrics; using the firm contralto of her voice, she imparts a pop wisdom that’s as incisive as it is compassionate.

“That’s her superpower,” Ailin says. “It’s hard not to feel like you’re the strongest person next to her. I think she lends a little bit of that to all of us sometimes.”

If being Vacanza Queen ‘is what I’m getting, then I’ll take it. Whether I’m performing or going out, if it’s not fun, I don’t want it.’”

Born in London in 1995, Lipa is the eldest of three children in a Kosovar-Albanian family. Her parents sought refuge in the UK in 1992, before Dua was born, because of political instability in Kosovo at the time. Prior to their emigration, Dua’s father, Dukagjin, sang and played guitar in a rock band called Oda, and her mother, Anesa, studied law. The Lipas settled in the Camden area of London, and Dua was raised to speak Albanian at home and English at school.

Dua’s family returned to Kosovo in 2006, while it was still under the supervision of the United Nations. The country declared independence from neighboring Serbia in 2008, making it the youngest country in Europe. As she grew into her teens, Dua began to meditate on the horrific stories of ethnic cleansing and war crimes committed against Kosovar Albanians. It prompted a critical perspective shift for her, one that informs her values to this very day—whether that means being a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, or calling for a humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza.

“I heard stories from friends [in Kosovo] who lost family members. Houses burned. I saw them. When you have that direct communication with people who have been through [war], it opens up a completely new world, and it did for me,” she says. “I feel very close to [those suffering] injustices in the world, or inequality. Whether that be war, or coming out to your family, everyone’s got a different experience…It’s about support and learning together.”

Lipa was only 15 when she returned to London alone to pursue a music career. She moved into a flat in Camden with an Albanian family friend who was attending university. After watching her younger siblings grow up themselves, it was a move that’s almost unfathomable to her now. “I said to my parents: ‘I don’t know how you let me do that,’” she admits. “But I knew that I didn’t have the same opportunities that I would have in Kosovo. I was so determined. I think my parents saw parts of themselves in me, and that allowed for them to be so open-hearted and generous with that trust.”

By 17, she completed her GCSEs, or secondary school certification, and worked as a restaurant hostess to make ends meet. Working in nightclubs as a teen inevitably steeled her for the misogyny and exploitation baked into a male-dominated music industry. If she sounds well beyond her years in her songs, it’s because she earned it. “When I started [songwriting], I worked at La Bodega Negra, a Mexican restaurant that looked like a sex shop,” she recalls. “I’d finish work, then go out to whatever nightclub was happening until, like, three in the morning. Then I would wake up and go to the studio until I had my shift again at, like, 8 P.M. The music I [made] was reflective of my every day, or every night.”

After ascending the charts again with 2018’s “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris, Lipa claimed the title of Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammys. She chased her success the following year with the release of her Grammy-winning sophomore album, Future Nostalgia , which leaked early on in the COVID-19 quarantine in late March of 2020. Despite the pandemic nearly extinguishing the club scene, Future Nostalgia became the singer’s first number one album in the UK, and rendered her one of the most-listened-to female artists on Spotify. (More recently, she became the first female artist to have four songs each with over 2 billion streams on the platform.)

Upon wrapping her Future Nostalgia world tour in December 2022, Lipa finally had time to exhale, for what felt like the first time in her adult life. She embarked on getaways from the Mediterranean to India this past year, and relished dining experiences with her family and friends in tow. After she posted her vacation photos on Instagram, the internet began dubbing her the “Vacanza Queen” poking fun at her for presumably going off gallivanting for months at a time.

At first, the criticism felt dismissive of the years she spent without her family, toiling her way into pop superstardom. Yet perhaps it’s not just the glamorous photos from exotic locales, but also her efficiency as an artist that have concealed her hard work, making it seem magically effortless—the curse of being extremely capable all her life.

Lipa’s routine is still so regimented that it made an impression on Parker when they worked together in London.“Dua is, like, the most punctual person,” he says. “For most pop stars, it’s impossible to get to places on time. But Dua...she’s, like, apologizing profusely if she’s five minutes late!”

Through her media company, Service95, a weekly email newsletter-turned-podcast-turned book club, she has interviewed the Afghan American novelist Khaled Hosseini and the rock’n’ roll poet Patti Smith. She’s also co-executive producing Camden , a new documentary in conjunction with Disney+ that showcases the history of her home borough in London and the many influential artists who grew up there, from Madness to Amy Winehouse.

“I’ve been busy for almost 10 years” she says. “Every single day, I’ve had some bit of work to do. But people are going to say something anyway. People say a lot of mean things about a lot of people.” And if being Vacanza Queen “is what I'm getting, then I’ll take it. Whether I’m performing or going out, if it’s not fun, I don’t want it,” she says. “You have to make room for joy. The world can be burning down, but goddamn…if you didn’t spend any of your life trying to be happy, I don't know what you’ve done.”

Dua Lipa is opening up on how being single has impacted her. The London native, who is of Albanian ethnicity, is set to release her third studio album Radical Optimism on May 3, and the record is full of songs reflecting on her casually dating phase, single era and even relationship time.

In an interview with Elle , the “Dance the Night” singer said focusing on herself and her career and really settling into being single has done nothing but good things for her.

“I was talking about this with one of my dancers today, because she was going through a breakup—when I was single, I didn’t wish it away,” the 28-year-old said . “You learn so much about yourself, you know, whether it’s going on a date or spending that time alone. In the silence, you figure out who you really are. In the grand scheme of things, I was doing research.”

She added that the peace that comes with accepting and knowing who you are also bleeds into other personal and professional aspects of your life. The three-time Grammy Award-winning artist parted ways with her longtime management and publishing company TaP Music late last year, hired her father and bought back all the rights and masters for her whole catalog.

“The power of manifestation and writing things into existence with the power of words ... when you know your worth, you know what you want and what you don’t want,” the Barbie and Argylle actress said .

Her songwriting abilities are clear, but she has power in writen and spoken words, too. Lipa’s podcast Dua Lipa: At Your Service was named on Spotify’s Best Podcasts of 2022 list, and her book recommendations and lifestyle newsletter, Service 95, is going strong. The “Levitating” singer was also named to the Time 100 most influential people of 2024 list.

About the shoe

Lipa’s shoe is a single-sole black stiletto featuring a thin heel. The silhouette is sharply pointed at the toe with a vamp that rounds at the sides before cutting straight across the toe line of the foot. It is seemingly composed of a croc skin, but can also be a croc-embossed skin.

Though it isn’t clearly visible, the shoe also features a slingback design.

Dua Lipa’s Shoe Style

Dua Lipa has quite the shoe closet, even fancying herself a designer of sorts. She has worked with Puma since 2020 as an ambassador and collaborator, and she has also worked with Versace. Her partnership with Versace included the Butterflies boot, a cowboy-style shoe with a stiletto heel. She also worked on the Aevitas platform heel. That range came out in 2023 as Lipa was on the tour for her role in the “Barbie” blockbuster film.

Outside of that, the celebrity is often spotted in eye-catching footwear like a Martin Margiela T abi ballet flat . Over the years, she’s also worn other styles like a thigh-high snakeskin boot by Christian Louboutin for the 2018 Jingle Ball.

Dua Lipa is by no means afraid of fashion. From her Radical Optimism era marked by bondage-like leather and hardware, to her rave bae vacation fits , the singer has proven time and time again that she’s not afraid to lean on the unrelatable side of her outfits. But with her most recent look, she modeled what is perhaps the most accessible trend from the spring 2024 runways.

Dua and her father, Dukagjin Lipa, touched down at New York’s JFK Airport this morning. At a glance, the “Illusion” singer wore a totally incognito airport fit: a green hoodie and navy-and-maroon sweats, both from the Palace Gap collaboration, and a pair of black Pumas. An expert flyer, she also rocked a black quilted jacket from Y/Project with navy contrast details, which she’s previously worn on travel days. But chief among Dua’s already-relatable airport fit was her purse.

While not many of us can call an Hermès Birkin our personal item, Dua’s was brimming with plane essentials—from her water bottle to the slate gray claw clip affixed to the handle. Bags runneth over were a popular styling choice on the spring 2024 runways, from Miu Miu to Bottega Veneta .

Although we can only sneak a peak at what’s emerging from the Grammy winning singer’s favorite purse, we can only imagine what she has inside. Our guess? From Beyoncé to Taylor Swift to Dua Lipa, women artists are ushering in ‘Pop Girl Spring’

- Pop girl spring. Taylor Swift's newest album The Tortured Poets Department is here, and it is anticipated to be one of the biggest releases of the year. While Swift is likely to rack up more sales and streaming records this week, she is in good company among other women pop artists on the Billboard charts. In fact, a chorus of the biggest names in music dropped or will drop albums in March, April, and May, including Ariana Grande, Kacey Musgraves, Maggie Rogers, Beyoncé , Dua Lipa, and Billie Eilish. Fans have begun to refer to this season of notable releases as Pop Girl Spring .

For pop fans, the bevy of high-profile drops has solidified a trend that became evident during last year’s summer of Swift and Beyoncé , and was further reinforced at this year’s Grammy awards , where women swept nearly all of the televised categories: Culturally, women are dominating pop music.

But that public-facing influence hasn't translated behind the scenes, says Tonya Butler, chair of the music business and management department at Berklee College of Music. Women in the C-suite remain a rarity in the music world , as do female producers . Sexual harassment is still rampant in the industry, according to a report from MIDiA Research , and the pay gap between men and women industry-wide remains pronounced. Swift and Beyoncé may run empires that eclipse many male artists’, but they are anomalies, she says. 

“It’s definitely exciting,” Butler tells me of all the female chart-toppers of recent weeks. “But I would love for us to get to a point where it’s not a surprise that so many women in the industry are doing so phenomenally well.”

There’s long been a perception in the music industry that women can't lead a successful tour, since they only appeal to other women consumers (meanwhile, both men and women will pay to watch men perform). The past few years—and especially 2023’s record-breaking Renaissance and Eras tours —have been notable for defying that perceived wisdom—women are flocking to see their favorite acts, and they're paying big money to do so. 

Still, reaching true parity in the industry will require constant, sustained effort and attention, says Butler, not just cheering on the handful of female artists who have managed to reach the summit in this moment. While it's exciting to see women dominating the charts, she wants to make sure that extends beyond the headliners: That labels are investing the money that female artists generate (from their female fan bases) into developing the next generation of female acts, and that those women have access to mental health resources, for example.

"I don't want us to get distracted by all the hoopla," she says. "For every Beyoncé, there’s 10,000 wannabe Beyoncés who are working their butts off and not getting any support and might even be exploited. Where are the mechanisms to support them?"
