How ECC Net works

ECC Net is a network of independently-managed offices co-funded by the European Commission. If you live in the EU, Iceland or Norway, the ECC in your country can

• explain your rights as a consumer
• help you settle a dispute with a seller based in another EU country (or Iceland or Norway)
• tell you who to contact if they can't help

As well as assisting consumers, ECC Net is an expert and trusted partner to stakeholders and policy makers seeking to promote consumer rights. It has an important role in alerting enforcement authorities about traders that are in breach of consumer law.

One of the values of the network is its rapid repsonse to emerging issues, such as the assistance provided to consumers during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Casehandling overview

In 2021, ECC Net assisted over 126000 consumers. These consumers recieved tailored information and advice about their consumer issue. In more than 20000 cases, ECCs also contacted traders to help settle a dispute. In 64% of these cases, the dispute settled amicably.

A new mobile application supporting European consumers when travelling abroad.

Bought something on holiday that became defective shortly afterwards? Trouble with rental cars or accommodation booked from home? Delayed plane on the return flight? In case the holiday turns out differently than planned you should know what to do to exercise your rights . Even better: You can also say it!

Especially for the summer holidays the European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net) launches a unique mobile application: the ECC-Net Travel App. It is an indispensable travel companion inside the European Union as well as in Iceland and Norway: the application helps consumers to cope with difficult situations on their holiday abroad and to express their consumer rights in the language of the destination country. The ECC-Net: Travel App provides legal knowledge and language support in 23 EU languages plus Norwegian and Icelandic.

The different topics are: retail purchases, car rental, accommodation, medical treatment, air and rail transport as well as bus and marine travel. A section with useful information offers important phone numbers and contact details for every day emergencies.

The app is free of charge and works offline to avoid the roaming trap. It is available for mobile devices with iOS, Android and Microsoft Windows operating systems and can be downloaded here:

The mobile travel companion for Europe

The European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net) developed an app to support consumers while travelling in Europe. In 25 languages, the mobile application helps in situations like lost baggage, delayed flights or return of damaged goods.

The "ECC-Net: Travel" App covers all countries of the ECC-Net, which includes the 28 EU-Member States, Norway and Iceland. While traveling in these countries, the App helps consumers to make them understood and demand their rights.

What kind of support does the App provide?

When you are confronted with a problem during vacation, it may be difficult to find a solution. It’s even more complicated if you don’t speak the language. The app helps in such situations.

With an intuitive and user-friendly design, the app is easy to handle – even in stress situations. The consumer can pick his current situation and gets information about his rights. Furthermore, the app shows him important sentences and questions, which should help to find a solution, in the language of the vacation country. The consumer can articulate his demands and solve the problem.

What kinds of situations are covered by the App?

The following topics are covered:

• Purchase at retail shop
• Ship / Ferry
• Useful information

All in all, 101 situations are available in the App, for example: the car is more expensive then agreed, the flight is delayed or cancelled, the baggage is lost or damaged. Also information about medical emergencies, important contacts and tips about using your mobile phone abroad are included.

Where can I get the App?

The App is free for Apple, Windows and Android users and is available in the respective shops. Alternatively you can scan the QR Code.

Who developed the App?

The ECC-Net: Travel App is a common project of all 30 ECCs. The network helps consumers since many years with legal advice free of charge. This experience was used for developing the new mobile application.

The App was presented during a press conference in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on July 2nd 2014. Commissioner Neven Mimica and MEP Andreas Schwab both welcomed and supported the launch of the App.

This is why, since 2 July 2014, all travellers in Europe can download the free application from the European Consumer Centres Network: "ECC-Net: Travel".

First of all, this App is meant to be a travel companion inside the European Union as well as in United Kingdom ,  Iceland and Norway . It helps consumers to overcome difficult situations on their holiday abroad and to exercise and express their consumer rights in the language of their destination country. Besides holiday trips this App is also very useful on business trips as well as during a semester abroad.

Just in time for the summer the European Consumer Centres Network (ECC-Net) launches a brand new version of its unique and free mobile application: the  ECC-Net: Travel app .

Developed as an ideal travel companion inside the European Union as well as in Iceland and Norway, it helps the European consumers to know and express their consumer rights in 25 European languages*.

When on holiday, we always want to avoid stress. That’s why the ECC-Net: Travel app is easy to use and offers a variety of solutions to any problem. For each type of situation, the app not only informs you whether you are entitled to claim your rights but also how to express them.

How does the app work?

After selecting the country and the type of situation (travel, car rental, hotel…), the app will not only specify your consumer rights but it will also enable you to present them to your counterpart in his or her own language. With the ECC-Net: Travel app and a little bit of goodwill, everyone should get along just fine!

Good to know:  the new “Help” section offers relevant phone numbers and contacts details of every local European Consumer Centre as well as local embassies for any emergencies.

The ECC-Net: Travel app is available for mobile devices with iOS, Android and Microsoft Windows operating systems and it can be downloaded in the Apple app store (for iOS), in the Google Play store (for Android) and in the Windows Store (for Windows Phone). The application works offline to avoid roaming fees.

There is a European Consumer Centre in every EU member state as well as in Norway and Iceland offering free consumer help and advice. The ECC-Net Travel application is an initiative of the whole network.

Das darf auf dem Smartphone von Reisenden nicht fehlen.

Sehr oberflächliche Informationen und dann noch so nette Übersetzungsfehler wie für "bestätigen" "cornfirmar" (richtig confirmar)!

Gute Idee - mit wenig Inhalt

Eine Super Idee die App, aber mit viel zu wenig Inhalt und damit aus meiner Sicht z.Zt. nur eingeschränkt gebrauchsfähig. Den einen Stern gibt es deshalb von mir nur für den guten "Ansatz".

Southwest to exit 4 airports and limit hiring following profit loss, Boeing plane delays

Southwest Airlines said it will limit hiring and suspend operations at four airports in the U.S. and Mexico following a loss of profits and delays getting planes from Boeing .

In a release posted after the company's earnings call Thursday, the Dallas, Texas-based budget airline reported a net loss of $231 million in the first quarter of 2024. Southwest President and CEO Bob Jordan called those losses "disappointing," and said the airline is adjusting to "slower than planned growth for this year and next."

In an interview with CNBC ahead of the earnings call Thursday, Jordan said the company was weighing options for cabin reconfiguration to address its recent revenue shortfall.

“We’re looking into new initiatives, things like the way we seat and board our aircraft,” Jordan told the network.

The airline said it now expects to end this year with approximately 2,000 fewer employees than 2023 through cost control initiatives, including limiting hiring and offering voluntary time off programs, not through furloughs or layoffs.

And with aircraft delivery delays from Boeing that could continue into 2025, Southwest said it is also planning to mitigate any operational and financial impacts while keeping reliable flight schedules for customers.

What airports is Southwest leaving?

After reporting financial losses in the first quarter of 2024, Southwest said it is closing operations at four airports, three in the U.S. and one in Mexico, the first time the airline has exited an airport since 2019.

• Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, New York
• Cozumel International Airport in Mexico

Southwest also announced plans to cut about half its flights out of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and one third from the Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

Although Southwest is pulling out of George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the company will maintain operations out of the William P. Hobby Airport in Houston.
