LMAO, the way that lady acted when she was carried by the security after hugging MJ while singing 'You Are Not Alone'. It's like watching a child throw tantrums in public and then being carried by their parents. Lol

I wonder where/how she is now. That memorable moment is an absolute treasure that she'll cherish for the rest of her life.

Michael Jackson was not an artist who comes along once in a decade, a generation, or a lifetime. He was an artist who comes along only once, period. - Berry Gordy, Founder of Motown, 2009

I love his minor hits like Stranger in Moscow, Blood on the Dance Floor and Dangerous but it’s no wonder that they pale in comparison popularity-wise compared to monster hits like Smooth Criminal. The latters grove is immeasurable. Especially when played back-to-back.

Watching this, his final ever tour, is like watching a greatest hits compilation. An accumulation of his life’s work. So it’s incredible that there are dozens more that had merit to be performed. What a catalog.

Background [ ]

Works on "In The Closet" started in 1990. Despite the suggestive title, the track was written about a concealed relationship. Initially, Madonna was planned to be featured in the song, likely in place of Princess Stephanie. Reportedly, after writing down lyrics for her parts and showing them to the King of Pop, he said they were too provocative and the project was scrapped.

Music video [ ]

The music video was directed by Herb Ritts and released on April 23, 1992. It was shot in sepia and takes place in Salton Sea, California. In the clip, Princess Stephanie's parts are replaced by Naomi Campbell who performs sensual dance routines alongside Jackson.

Live performances [ ]

During the Dangerous World Tour , Michael's band performed the instrumental to the first half of "In the Closet" as an interlude between Heal the World and Man in the Mirror .

"In the Closet" was properly performed only during the HIStory World Tour . It was featured as a part of the tour opener, that being the " Scream "/" They Don't Care About Us " / "In the Closet" medley.

A demo of "In the Closet" had leaked online at an unknown date in the 2000's. This version doesn't feature anyone but Michael, who says all of Princess Stephanie's and Naomi's future lines.

[Intro] There's something I have to say to you If you promise you'll understand I cannot contain myself when in your presence I'm so humble Touch me, don't hide our love Woman to man [Verse 1] She's just a lover who's doin' me by It's worth the givin', it's worth the try You cannot cleave it or put it in the furnace You cannot wet it, you cannot burn it She wants to give it [Chorus] She wants to give it Ah, she wants to give it (Dare me) She wants to give it Ah, she wants to give it (She wants to give it) She wants to give it (Yeah) Ah, she wants to give it She wants to give it Ah, she wants to give it [Verse 2] It's just a feelin', you have to soothe it You can't neglect it, you can't abuse it It's just desire, you cannot waste it Then if you want it, then won't you taste it? A History of the Closet Through the Ages

A grand walk-in closet with a shoe rack and island.

01 Oct A History of the Closet Through the Ages

Our closets are something that we see and use so often that it’s easy not to give it much thought. How much do you really know about your closet? Do you know about the history of your closet, or why they call it a closet in the first place?

Let’s take a walk through the ages to discover the history of the closet, where it comes from, and where we can expect it to go.

Closets Date Back to Roman Times

At its simplest, a closet is a room, cabinet, or recess designed to hold clothing, china, and other possessions. It should come as no surprise that such a fundamental and helpful space would have been around for some time.

It turns out that some of the earliest people to use a closet were Roman soldiers . The soldiers needed a more practical way to store and transport weapons and armor, especially on long journeys. These storage units were called “armoriums.” As you might have guessed, the Latin word “armorium” became what we know today as an “armoire.”

Closets Became More Common in Early Modern Europe

In France during the 16th century, the armoire came to popularity among the upper class as a way to store weapons, tools, and clothing. There were even closets in England as early as the 1550s . However, these early closets had more in common with walk-in closets than the reach-in closet you’re familiar with.

These closets and were closer to a small private study instead of what we think of as a closet today. They were often used to store odds and ends like maps and books rather than a place to keep your coats.

As industrialization happened across the world, and goods were more affordable and easier to produce, people had more stuff to store. This led to a change in how people viewed and used the closet, but it wasn’t until much later that the modern closet started to take shape.

Closets Take Shape in the 1800s

The idea of the closet, as a dedicated space built into the home for storage, happened in the United States around 1840. We already told you about how Europeans had rooms called closets and used similar pieces of furniture for hundreds of years. However, it was Americans that established the closet as its own space built directly into the wall during the 19 th century.

The convenience of the closet built into the home rapidly became a standard feature in many American homes. It was nowhere near as expensive or bulky as furniture like armoires and chests. However, while Americans (and the rest of the world) were starting to warm up to the closet, they also didn’t give the closet too much thought.

It wasn’t until the 1950s, after World War II, that we started to really see what we think of as the modern closet.

America Creates the Modern Closet

The economic boom following the war led to an even larger consumer culture in the U.S., and increased need for a place to keep everything. More people began moving to the suburbs and buying larger homes. These larger homes came with closets, and Americans had plenty of new clothes to fill them with.

Closets by Design Reinvents the Closet in 1982

By the 1980s, people started to look at their closets in a new way. The question now became what you could do to upgrade their closets to make them more attractive and efficient. Enter Closets by Design.

History tour tells of Detroit's skeletons in the closet

Michigan Central Station, Detroit's historic train hub, used by Harry Houdini on both of his last two train rides. One while alive and the other while dead.

Detroit has a rich and storied past. Some of those stories take a dark turn, leaving behind legends, rumors, and maybe even something more supernatural.

Detroit History Tours hosts the Historically Haunted Detroit bus tour. Tours sell out, and if there are seats left on the bus, it's most likely because those people arrived late. Whatever departure time is listed on the event is the time the bus pulls away from the Detroit History Club in Hamtramck.

Bailey Sisoy Moore is the executive director of the club, which puts on the tours. She also guides the haunted tours. She said she loves the spooky stuff.

The first stop is at Turkey Stearns Stadium . It's kept up by volunteers and still hosts youth baseball tournaments. While standing just off first base, Sisoy Moore tells a story of the little leaguers of the past.

Sisoy Moore said the grounds crew will rake the field the night before games, only to find shoe prints like someone ran the bases, and a divot dug into the pitcher's mound. She said the crew will say, "Oh, that's our field of dreams. Every now and then, our players come back."

Bailey Sisoy Moore, executive director of Detroit History Club and Detroit History Tours. Oct 22, 2023, Hamtramck.

Some people on the tour take a moment to walk the bases, others visit the stands, and then it's back to the bus.

Sisoy Moore said she wants to use the tours to make history more exciting. " We wanted it a fun day out. And if we wrap it up in a ghost story, but at the end of the day you're learning a lot of history; I'll use the ghost stories to get you to learn the history," she said.

Grave of Colonel Hamtramck. His remains have been interred four times.

Sisoy Moore is a historian and a life-long Detroiter. She said she started the company twelve years ago, hoping for the best. She said it surpassed her wildest dreams. Detroit History Tours has 22 guides and hosts over 600 tours a year. Some run year round, others seasonally, and then there are the one-time special events. They change up the locations and bus stops so repeat customers get a different experience every year.

While on the bus, going from place to place, there are creepy stories to accompany the sights. As the bus rolls past the final, final, final, final resting place of Colonel Hamtramck, Sisoy Moore recounts his life and legacy. And also his afterlife, since his remains were moved four times.

Sisoy Moore said she likes to include local stops and community-owned businesses. The second stop is Buddy's Pizza, where everyone will get a slice of Detroit Style pie. Sisoy Moore told a story on the way.

"It started as an ice shack," Sisoy Moore said of the original Buddy's Pizza building. She said selling ice was a cheap, dangerous way to supplement a family income. Ice shacks were typically tacked on to a house and this one was no different.

Bailey Sisoy Moore speaking with tour guests. Beyond her is the door to the ice shack referenced in her stories.

Once prohibition started in Michigan, "The old ice shack at the old house starts sending some of the boys across the river into Canada to bring back other things they can sell cold from the ice shack." She said there was a special knock that meant "more than ice, please."

In 1946, Gus Guerra bought the building, started Buddy's Pizza, and continued adding to the building. According to Sisoy Moore's stories, some of Buddy's staff still hear the knocking late at night. She said it's famous as the Buddy's Ghost of Eras Past.

There are also stories of one employee who hasn't left. " They say that one of those women who's featured in a lot of their Buddy’s advertisements, her name was Martha. She was in charge of the sauce. She's still around in the kitchen," Sisoy Moore said.

"And when they're making sauce, they get this real feeling that someone's kind of behind them looking over their shoulder. Someone's there, checking in."

Sisoy Moore says she really just wants people to know more about Detroit and fall in love with it. "I'm a kid from the town. I'm a kid from the city. And this is what I love. And this is the honor of a lifetime to get to show off your hometown history," she said.

Bailey Sisoy Moore tells tour guests about the history and legends of the Ambassador Bridge.

The next stop is the Detroit Riverwalk.

"I brought you here today because there's a few very good ghost stories when it comes to the Ambassador Bridge. There have been stories for years about the horn of a freighter blowing to warn someone only to have no freighter visible," Sisoy Moore said.

For those on the tour, some came for a fun time with friends, and others heard about it from Facebook. But there was one reason given over and over. "Bailey is like, by far the best guide. Ever," said Dara Goucher. She's a repeat tour-taker and had high praise.

Sonja Francese is from Warren. She came with her sister and loved the stories. "I didn't know any of the history growing up here, so now I'm looking at it with new eyes. It’s amazing," she said.

While some stories were paranormal, others were more morbid or strange. Like Rose Barron, the demon of Detroit, the murderess of the Alhramba. Barron allegedly took revenge on her employer by feeding poisoned cookies to the swanky apartment residents, killing three children and two adults.

She told the story of George Mason, builder of the Masonic Temple. She said, contrary to the legends, he did not throw himself off the building in despair. He lived to 91 and built several more buildings in Detroit. "But," Sisoy Moore said, "He is still around." Mason had all the faces of the gargoyles made to look like his own, so he can keep an eye on it.

And then there's the demise of escape artist and master showman Harry Houdini. "Halloween, 1926! He died right here in Detroit! Magic has died in the Motor City. Harry Houdini, 52, is dead in Detroit," Sisoy Moore announced.   He arrived at Michigan Central Station in Detroit with a burst appendix and the rest is history.

The last stop is at the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 10. The PLAV . It's now a private club, but for an hour everyone on the tour was a member. Above the bar, on the second floor, is the first wedding hall built in Hamtramck. Sisoy Moore said it's rumored that polka music will waft down from time to time.

By 6:00 pm, the bus arrived back at the Detroit History Tour offices. It's in an old funeral home. After everyone’s gone, Sisoy Moore tells her own ghost story. She said she was alone at Historic Fort Wayne, getting it ready for rehab. Part of that process involves making noise the whole time to scare away the critters.

" The building is empty and there's very little power. It's emergency lighting only. And I'm sort of with my flashlight like, ‘Oh, Jeez Louise.’ And I’m doing the Lord's Prayer and I finish, and I hear ‘Amen.’ Out of that building as quick as you could be and I wouldn't go back after dark for about a year," she said.

A Brief History of the Walk-In Closet

Believe it or not, humankind has not always stored their clothes in closets. The walk-in closet in its current luxurious form is, in fact, a relatively recent invention. The first humans, of course, owned only one set of clothes and had no need for dedicated clothing storage.

As clothing and textiles evolved, became easier to produce and increased in decorative qualities, more people began to own more than one or two sets of clothes, and the need for a storage solution was born. This varied throughout different cultures. For example, ancient Egyptians stored their clothes in baskets made of reeds, the very wealthy chose alabaster chests and the ancient Greeks, who had plentiful access to wood, stored their clothes in chests, which is a practice also followed by Roman civilians.

Roman soldiers, however, took the first step towards inventing the modern walk-in-closet when they invented the armorium; a simple wooden box used to safely transport their weapons and armor from one camp to the next. During most of the medieval period, this box turned into elaborate cedar clothes chests used by the wealthy to keep their ornate, expensive clothes from the mice and moths that might destroy them.

For the next few hundred years, these chests gradually evolved into the armoire; a tall, free standing wardrobe with shelves and drawers enclosed in an ornate upright box with two doors. It was first developed in France in the 17 th century to store either armor and weapons or craftsman’s tools, depending on which accounts you believe. By the 18 th century, these pieces had become the most common way for the wealthy to store their clothes, and, along with the shelves and drawers, usually featured a hanging section for cloaks and other long garments. They were occasionally built into the structure of the building itself unknowingly forming an early precursor to today’s wall closets.

It was around this time that we also have the first reference to the first walk-in closets , which were not in function at all similar to our modern closets, but were instead small rooms adjoining a person’s bedroom designed for private enjoyment of art or music.

In the 1870s, the hanging rod was incorporated into the wardrobe for the first time and the first hangers soon followed. In 1880 ground was broken for the Dakota, a luxurious apartment building in New York that featured some of the nation’s first reach-in closets specifically designed for clothes.

It’s difficult, of course, to know the exact point at which walk-in closets were invented; European royalty had had enough clothes to fill entire rooms for centuries. But, in the United States, the closets in 740 Park Avenue, New York, represented a new level of closet decadence with one doorman stating that the closets were “Bigger than [his] rooms” and featured electrical outlets, shoe shelves, and locking doors.

By the 1950s, closets were much more popular with many middle and even lower class homes including them as standard. Some authorities suggest that the move to the suburbs around this time was fueled in part by the larger closets available as part of the larger home style suburban living.

The year 1983 brought another revolution to the walk-in closet with the founding of the Closet Factory . The fledgling custom closet franchise quickly soared to the forefront of the closet industry, surpassing its competitors in efficiency, designs, and available options. By now, the walk-in closet was a standard feature for most medium and large houses, and custom closet companies like Closet Factory began creating closets that were more glamorous and luxurious than ever before.

Popular obsession with the opulent closets of celebrities grew, culminating with MTV’s 2006 exploration of Mariah Carey’s massive 12,000 square foot closet in an episode of their popular celebrity lifestyle show Cribs . In 2008, during the Sex and the City movie, Carrie Bradshaw was proposed to in a custom walk-in closet , which only cemented the space’s place in pop culture for years to come.

DII NCAA men's basketball championship history

The Division II men's basketball championship consists of a 64-team field with eight qualifiers from each region competing at a single regional site. Twenty-three teams earn automatic qualifications and the remaining 41 receive at-large bids to the tournament. Once the eight regionals conclude, respective teams will advance to the Men's Elite Eight at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

The DII men's basketball national championship dates back to 1957, skipping 2020 due to COVID-19, with the first-ever championship trophy going to Wheaton (Ill.). Kentucky Wesleyan is the winningest team, with eight national championships. Evansville follows with five titles.

L.S.U.’s Kim Mulkey Courts Controversy With Style

Inside the coach’s winning fashion playbook.

Ms. Mulkey, in an allover tiger-striped suit, reacts to a shot, shouting with her arms in the air. Around her, players react similarly, cheering with their arms high.

By Vanessa Friedman

The smog of a Washington Post exposé may have been hanging over Kim Mulkey’s head during the L.S.U. game on Saturday afternoon, but the highest paid coach in women’s collegiate basketball wasn’t going to hide. How could you tell?

Well, in part because at the start of the N.C.A.A. tournament, she had given a news conference threatening a lawsuit about the article, thus calling to attention to it. In part because there she was, running up and down the sidelines and screaming her head off. And it part because … goodness, what was she wearing?

A gleaming pantsuit covered in a jumble of Op Art sequined squiggles, as if Big Bird had met Liberace and they’d teamed up for “Project Runway.”

Even in the context of basketball, a sport in which players and coaches understood the power of personal branding through clothes long before almost any other athletes, Ms. Mulkey stands out. More than perhaps anyone else in the league — possibly in all of women’s basketball — she has made her image a talking point, a reflection of her own larger-than-life personality and a tool to draw attention to her sport. She is basketball’s avatar of the Trumpian era, offering a new version of The Mulkey Show at every game and costuming herself for the moment. As her team meets the University of Iowa again in the Elite Eight, brand Mulkey will most likely be raising the stakes once more.

It would be wrong to call her clothes “fashion.” They have little to do with trends or silhouette. But love what she wears or hate it, love how she behaves or hate it, her sometimes ridiculous, always eye-catching outfits are, like her winning record, abrasive personality and problematic comments , impossible to ignore.

“She’s the OG example of how to capitalize on who you are,” said Sydney Bordonaro, a stylist who works with seven W.N.B.A. players and was herself a Division I basketball player. “How many eyes are on her during each game? How could you not take advantage of that opportunity? It’s priceless.”

history tour in the closet

As such, and as the women’s game becomes increasingly popular and new N.I.L. rules put a premium on the monetization of image and identity, Ms. Mulkey is fast becoming the author of a different kind of playbook. One that has made her a lightning rod not just because of her coaching style, but because of her style as a coach.

“She has built herself into a brand,” said Mitchell S. Jackson, the author of “Fly: The Big Book of Basketball Fashion.” “It’s about ratings and about personality.”

A Brief History of Basketball Coach Fashion

It was the Lakers coach Pat Riley who set the tone for sideline fashion back in the 1980s when he adopted a wardrobe of Armani suits, using clothes to convey his ambition and polish. “He became the standard-bearer,” Mr. Jackson said. “But he also blended in.”

Pat Summitt, who spent 38 years as the women’s basketball coach at the University of Tennessee, took a similar approach, becoming known for her shoulder pads and power suits. As Lindsay Gibbs, the founder of the newsletter Power Plays, pointed out, female coaches had long understood that “they were being scrutinized to a different level” and that what they wore was going to play a role whether they liked it or not.

Yet overall, it has been the men who have garnered much of the attention — perhaps because they also had the paychecks and the discretionary income. And perhaps because the W.N.B.A. has a long and fraught history with gender stereotyping, which for years saw the organization pushing classically “feminine” ideals, including offering hourlong makeup and hair tutorials for rookies to combat traditionalist nervousness about powerful female athletes and all they represent.

In recent years, and especially in the men’s game, the coaches have ceded the spotlight to the players, opting to dress in team apparel rather than designer clothes, even as their on-court stars have ended up on the front row of fashion shows. Ms. Mulkey is an alternative to all that.

And though she is not the only style-forward coach in the game — Dawn Staley of South Carolina , Adia Barnes of the University of Arizona, and Sydney Carter, the director of player development for the University of Texas are lauded for their image-making flair — Ms. Mulkey is the most extreme. She has been compared to a Who from Dr. Seuss’s Whoville , Ric Flair of WrestleMania and a flamingo . (Well, she has been called a “rare bird.”)

Whether you consider her looks merely “eccentric,” as Ms. Bordonaro does, or straight from “the Las Vegas clown section,” as Tom Broecker, the costume designer of “Saturday Night Live,” does, it may matter less than the fact that you consider them at all.

“She’s making a statement about her individuality and determination to be herself, no matter what,” Ms. Gibbs of Power Plays said. “It has become something people look out for, and she’s leaning in.”

Sparkle, Sparkle, Sparkle

Ms. Mulkey’s penchant for outré dress began to emerge during her 21 years at Baylor, in which she led her team to three national championships. During that time, she also courted controversy with comments dismissing the university’s sexual misconduct scandal and her treatment of her star player, Brittney Griner, who has talked publicly about being told to stay in the closet by her coach and to cover her tattoos. (Later, Ms. Mulkey did not speak up when Ms. Griner was imprisoned in Russia in 2022.) Still, her style was a lot more “normal, for want of a better word,” Ms. Gibbs said.

It was during L.S.U.’s run to the N.C.A.A. trophy last year that Ms. Mulkey vaulted from basketball fame to national fame, thanks in part to her penchant for sequins, feathers and lurid color combinations. She wore a black and white sequined polka-dot pantsuit, a Kelly green and hot pink plaid jacket with pink feathers on the sleeves, a rose-pink jacket with enormous … well, roses, on the sleeves and, for the final game, an allover sequined tiger-stripe pantsuit. (The tiger is the L.S.U. mascot.) Riding in the celebration parade afterward, she chose a purple sequined jacket with more tigers.

It is not a coincidence that one of Ms. Mulkey’s favorite labels is called Queen of Sparkles . Designed by Jaime Glas, it is sold at the Baton Rouge store Rodéo Boutique, where Ms Mulkey reportedly gets many of her outfits — or where Jennifer Roberts, the L.S.U. director of women’s basketball player personnel and influence, gets them for her. At this point, according to a 2023 article on her closet in the Louisiana daily The Advocate , she has 171 pairs of shoes and “29 glittery jackets.”

“Look, we’re from Louisiana,” Ms. Mulkey said , by way of explaining her taste. “We like sparkles, we like diamonds, we like Mardi Gras, we like to eat and we like to party.”

Whatever the reason, her choices have meant that even people with no particular interest in basketball (like the FUG girls ) have suddenly begun watching the games. “People tune in to see what she’s wearing,” Mr. Jackson said.

And Ms. Mulkey understands the stakes. When she gave that news conference about the Washington Post article at the start of the N.C.A.A. tournament, she left the sequins behind for the institutional security of a simple long-sleeve purple L.S.U. T-shirt. As if to remind everyone what a team player she really is.

A tour against Tokyo 2020 silver medallists Australia in their own backyard will be a tough test for India and provide Craig Fulton’s men with the perfect opportunity to finetune their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics in July-August.

Fulton has named a full-strength 27-member Indian hockey team for the tour with star drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh as captain. Hardik Singh , who was named Hockey India’s Men’s Player of the Year for 2023, will be his deputy.

Both Australia and India have been drawn in Pool B of the men’s hockey tournament at Paris Olympics, with the two teams set to meet in their final group match on August 2.

The tour will also provide both teams a chance to measure each other up before the big meeting in France.

Currently, Australia are ranked fifth in the world hockey rankings while India are fourth.

The two teams have already squared off twice this year in the FIH Pro League. The Kookaburras won the first match 6-4 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

India held the Aussies to a 2-2 draw at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela in the second fixture but ended up losing the bonus point shootout 3-0.

Go On a Tour of One of the Greatest Sets in Star Trek History

Grab a jumja stick and let quark himself take you through one of the most important locations in star trek : deep space nine's promenade..

What’s the most important set on a Star Trek show? Depending on the series, it might differ—for the most part, it’s going to be the bridge of a starship . But “the bridge of a starship” isn’t really the answer to that question: it’s the place that feels most like home . And while it’s definitely not a starship, Deep Space Nine ’s promenade is exactly that, perhaps more than any other iconic locale in the franchise.

Today as part of a series of updates to its virtual tour offerings on the Apple Vision Pro, the Roddenberry Archive and OTOY announced a raft of new virtual reality set tours , taking fans inside the world of Star Trek . To celebrate this week’s return of Star Trek: Discovery , the bridge of the legendary vessel is now available for virtual visitation, as are the first virtual tours inside the fleets of the Klingon Empire —specifically the I.K.S. Amar , the K’t’inga battle cruiser from the opening of The Motion Picture . But perhaps the most fascinating addition is a further exploration of Deep Space Nine ’s titular station, and the most important place of all among its rings and pylons : the thoroughfare of the Promenade.

The Promenade was already part of the archive, but now audiences can explore further aspects of the set—one of the biggest ever built for Star Trek , the biggest outright at the time of filming—but the real highlight is a new, accompanying documentary about the design history of the set and its legacy, narrated by the perfect tour guide for such a locale: Armin Shimmerman, the man behind the lobes of the Promenade’s premiere businessman, Quark.

It’s a great little piece, looking at the set’s design process, how its scale was captured on screen, as well as Shimmerman relishing in giving little in-universe guides to everything that the Promenade had to offer. It’s a reminder of not just what an impressive set it was, but how its design language informed the very heart of what Deep Space Nine was doing with Star Trek . In the Promenade, we have a primary set that is unlike anything we’ve ever seen on the show before: this is not Federation design, or Starfleet ship corridors, but the brutalist angles of Cardassian aesthetic clashing with the pops of color from the flags hung by the Bajorans and other alien cultures steadily in the process of reclaiming what was once a grim shadow over the oppressions of Bajor. Few Star Trek sets are exactly comforting, but this heady mix of sharp angles and cool metallics against the vibrancy of shop lights and flags brings the Promenade a sense of homeliness that few other regular Trek sets could match.

But one thing this tour can’t capture about the Promenade that made it so compelling in the first place is the people milling about the place: the life that made it feel like home more than anything else. Sure, every Trek set has had some flavor of walk and talk on it before, the bustle of crew milling about and looking at monitors, but the Promenade was life itself made manifest. The culture clash of the design language was echoed in the people —so many people, more people than we would often see in one place on Trek outside of big crowd sequences or social hubs like canteens and bars. You had Starfleet crew, sticking out in their black and division-colored uniforms, you had the browns and beiges of Odo and his local security officers, you had Bajoran priests, you had civilians of all species and stripes, from visitors passing through to vendors hocking food and trinkets—and, of course, the myriad patrons of myriad scruples flocking in and out of Quark’s bar. The Promenade was defined by background vibrancy, a social and communal space that was far more important to Deep Space Nine than the cramped battle bridge of the Defiant , or the command crew’s home in operations.

That life made the Promenade sing—sometimes literally, in the case of the Klingon restaurateur playing his accordion and roaring traditional Klingon ballads at diners—and it made it the heart of Deep Space Nine , a sacred space for the viewer that the show could then violate at a moment’s notice to amplify any given threat. The Promenade has been home to firefights, assassination attempts, it’s been besieged , it’s been captured by our heroes’ worst enemies, but it’s also a place of love, adventure, and fun, the sight of some of the best moments in the entirety of DS9 . It is, after all, where the show’s heart is—and that is where home resides.

Ronnie O’Sullivan makes history with staggering season earnings – and will bank six-figures if he wins Tour Championship

  • Ellie Grant

  • Published : Invalid Date,

RONNIE O'SULLIVAN has had his most successful season having earned £1.16million and could bag another six-figures if he wins the Tour Championship.

The 48-year-old has won five major tournaments this term - the second time in his 32-year career.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has had his most successful season having earned £1.16million already

This includes winning the UK Championship in York, the Masters in  London  and World Masters of Snooker in  Saudi Arabia  – the three events individually had £250,000 winners’ cheques.

And with two events still to play O'Sullivan could see his prize fund skyrocket.

The world No1 became the first player to win in Saudi Arabia after beating Luca Brecel 5-2 in the World Masters in Riyadh on Wednesday.

Making this his fifth win this season to go with his victories at Shanghai Masters, UK Championship, Masters and World Grand Prix.

Since the beginning of his professional career this is the first time O'Sullivan has gone over the £1m mark in the same season.

The Rocket has so far bagged £1.16m from 11 tournaments with the Tour Championship and World Championship up for grabs.

If O'Sullivan manages to find another victory in the Tour Championship which started on Monday he could take home £150,000.

And what is more extraordinary is the Englishman has managed this despite opting out of several events including the European Masters, British, Northern Ireland, Scottish and Welsh Opens, Shoot Out and German Masters.
