IndiGo's new flight cancellation, change charges: 5 things to know

Earlier indigo charged a flat rate of ₹3,000 and ₹2,500 for cancellation and changes on domestic tickets the new charges apply if the change or cancellation is made within 3 days of the journey.

NEW DELHI : No-frills carrier IndiGo has revised its flight cancellation and change charges for both domestic and international flights. The revised rules, which came into force from Thursday, applies if a passenger changes the flight or cancels his tickets within 3 days of the journey, IndiGo said in a statement.

5 things to know about IndiGo's new flight cancellation and change charges:

1) IndiGo's flight cancellation charges will, however, remain the same in case a passenger is making the change four or more days in advance of the travel dates.

2) For domestic flights, IndiGo customers can make any changes or cancellations free of charge within 24 hours of booking, if booked at least 7 days before the travel dates.

3) As per the passenger charter released by the civil aviation ministry in February 2019, IndiGo passengers can make any changes or cancellations free of charge within 24 hours of booking on domestic flights , provided they have booked their tickets at least 7 days in advance of the scheduled departure.

4) For domestic flights, IndiGo will charge ₹ 3,500 if the request is made between 0-3 days of travel while for 4 days and above, the charges are ₹ 3,000. The change fee is ₹ 3,000 for 0-3 days and ₹ 2,500 for 4 days and above. For international flights, the rates vary in between ₹ 2,500 and ₹ 6,500.

5) IndiGo's chief commercial officer William Boulter, said this will help the airline bring down the last-minute changes to a minimum, enabling better capacity utilization on-board. "Improved processes will help us to continue providing IndiGo’s on-time, courteous and hassle-free service at affordable fares," he said.

IndiGo announces zero cancellation fee provided amount used for travel before 30th September

For all new and existing bookings for travel up to September 30, 2020, IndiGo is offering, reschedule for any date of choice. The change fee is waived off and in case of higher fare, the difference will apply.

New Delhi: In view of customers being worried about travelling amidst the Coronavirus outbreak. IndiGo airline has revised its change/cancellation policy. It is worth mentioning that in an effort to control the spread of Coronavirus, the government has suspended operations of all domestic flights from midnight of March 24. 

Indigo tweeted about the changes saying, "Your travel is safe with us! Save time and make changes to your booking all by yourself with our flexible options."

In a statement, the airline said, "There are many customers who may wish to make changes to their flight schedules but are unable to get through to our customer relations team because we are swamped with an unprecedented surge in incoming calls and emails. Please be assured that your Booking Reference/PNR, will stay safe as a credit account in the same PNR with the same ticket value."

"The credit account can be used for travel before 30th September, by the same passenger. For those who are booked to travel till 30th April, they can cancel their itinerary at zero cancellation fee, create credit account in the same PNR and book an alternative travel of the same ticket value, any time up till 30th September, " it further said.

New Booking Change Rules: For all new and existing bookings for travel up to September 30, 2020, IndiGo is offering, reschedule for any date of choice. The change fee is waived off and in case of higher fare, the fare difference will apply. 

Booking Cancellation Rules:

In case of booking cancellation for all new and existing bookings for travel up to April 30, 2020, the following rules will apply.    

1. Cancellations with IndiGo: For all cancellations processed at IndiGo call centre, airport counters or website, a reservation credit for the full amount will be created and you can use it to make another booking for the same passenger, any time before September 30, 2020

2. Cancellations with travel agents: For all cancellations processed by travel agents or online booking platforms, travel agents will issue a credit note, to be utilised for the same passenger, for a booking through the same channel, any time before September 30, 2020

Pay cut for IndiGo staff and CEO:

IndiGo chief executive officer (CEO) Ronojoy Dutta on March 19 announced a pay cut for all staff, with a 25 per cent reduction in his own salary. This came in the wake of a severe hit in the aviation industry due to travel bans imposed by the government to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease. In an email to employees, Dutta said, "With the precipitous drop in revenues, the very survival of the airline industry is now at stake. We have to pay careful attention to our cash flow so that we do not run out of cash."

Dutta further mentioned that he is taking a cut of 25 per cent, while other executives above the senior vice president level would take cuts of 20 per cent, vice presidents and pilots would also take a 15 per cent deduction, while others including cabin crew would take a 5-10 per cent cuts.

5 things to know about IndiGo's new flight cancellation and change charges:

1) IndiGo's flight cancellation charges will, however, remain the same in case a passenger is making the change four or more days in advance of the travel dates.

2) For domestic flights, IndiGo customers can make any changes or cancellations free of charge within 24 hours of booking, if booked at least 7 days before the travel dates.

But all the excitement was soon washed away when Qatar Airways said that it is not looking to put money into IndiGo right now. It won’t be a very huge blow to IndiGo since the airline is still making enough profits to thrive in the aviation industry. IndiGo, in a not so long ago press release said that it promises to cover its customers inconvenience caused by the airline for any delays in travel or loss of baggage for only Rs 49. This has certainly driven up the number of people flying with the air carrier. But the more the people are booking their flights from IndiGo, the more are cancelling as well. Flight cancellation can put a whole in your pocket from some airlines. So what happens when you cancel your flight with IndiGo?

What is IndiGo Flight Cancellation?

It is what the name suggests. You have the luxury of cancelling your flights. But it is not so much of a luxury when you see the amount of money that will be refunded to you. How do you avail IndiGo flight cancellation? Simply by going to the IndiGo’s website or its mobile application. Just check for your recent bookings and you will find an option - view/change bookings, tap/click on it. One of the many features inside this page will be to cancel your flight. If this is too much work for you, then you can simply call the IndiGo’s call centre or helpline number and ask them to cancel your flight for you.

Then you will be asked whether you want the refund into your source account which is the account you used to pay for your booking. If not, you can provide the airline with another option and the money will be refunded to you. But sometimes, flight cancellation does not happen from your end, but the airline's. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the airline has to cancel the flight on their own. Since that is not your fault, you will be provided with a full refund. The thing to note here is, when you cancel your flight on your own, you won’t get a full refund. Sometimes, you might not want to cancel your flight and just want to change the date of your travel. Then you can just choose the change dates option of the airline. Here too you will be charged.

What Are The Charges? 

Both flight cancellation and shifting it to another date will cost you good. But the charges are different under different circumstances. If you flying in a domestic flight and you go for flight cancellation within 3 days from the date of your scheduled flight, then you will be charged Rs 3,500 from the airline. The rest of the amount along with taxes will be refunded to you. But when you choose to cancel it before 4 days from your flight, you will be charged Rs 3,000. When you are looking to change the flight dates, for changing it within 3 days from the date fo your flight, you will have to pay a total of Rs 3,000. But when you change your flight before 4 days, you will be charged Rs 2,500 only.

IndiGo to revise flight cancellation, change charges

NEW DELHI:) Budget passenger carrier IndiGo on Thursday said that it would revise flight cancellation and change charges made within three days before the travel date.

However, for domestic bookings, customers can make changes or cancellations free of charge within 24 hours of booking, if booked at least seven days before the travel date.

According to the airline, the revised flight cancellation and change fee for both domestic and international flights will become effective from Thursday midnight.

"The revision only applies if the change or cancellation is made within 0-3 days of the travel dates. The charges remain the same in case a passenger is making the change four or more days in advance of the travel dates," the airline said in a statement.

In line with the passenger charter released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in February 2019, customers can make any changes or cancellations free of charge within 24 hours of booking on domestic flights, provided they have booked their tickets at least 7 days in advance of the scheduled departure.

Please locate the airline you are booked on in the section below, and check if your booking is eligible for a date change without penalty or a full refund on cancellation.

Important Information : Dear customer, the airlines may change their rules without notice and at their discretion. Though we are updating the same here, given the ever-evolving situation, we request you to please check the policies with the airline too, before making any changes to your travel plans.

Flight Change Policy / Flight Amendment Policy

For all bookings done till 30 th June‘21 and travel date till 30 th June‘21, you can now change your flight to any new travel date free of cost till up to 24 hours from date/time of departure.

Route Eligibility: All domestic routes

Amendment Policy: Reschedule your travel for any future date without any penalty charges. Only fare difference will apply.

Initial Booking Date: Till 31 st March 2020

Initial Travel Date: Till 30 th April 2020

Number of Changes Allowed: One change allowed before original travel date

Time Limit: Up to 3 days prior to departure

Cancellation Policy: If you wish to cancel a flight that is operational, cancellation charges will apply as per the cancellation policy shared at the time of booking. 

Cancellation Policy:

• You are eligible for a full refund, if the flight is cancelled by the airline.

Amendment Policy:

• You can reschedule your travel, without any date-change charges, for both domestic and international existing bookings, with initial travel starting before 31 st December 2020. Fare difference will apply.
• Number of changes allowed: One
• Re-routing also permitted.
• Changes must be made before 31 st May 2020, and not later than 48 hours before initial departure date.

For all bookings done between 17 th Apr‘21 and 30 th June‘ (with no travel date restrictions), you can now change your flight to any new travel date free of cost till up to 2 hours from date/time of departure.

For all bookings done between 17 th Apr‘21 and 30 th Jun’21and travel date between 17 th Apr‘21 and 5 th Jul‘21, you can now change your flight to any new travel date free of cost till up to 5 days from date/time of departure.

For all bookings done between 1 st May‘21 and 10 th June‘21 and travel date between 1 st May‘21 and 31 st Jul‘21, you can now change your flight to new travel dates between 1 st May‘21 and 31 st Jul‘21 free of cost till up to 24 hours from date/time of departure. The offer is not applicable on group bookings. The offer shall not apply in the event the customer cancels the booking or changes the sector, in such cases the "cancellation fee" will be chargeable at current applicable rates.

PLEASE NOTE: All flights are suspended for travel from 25 th March 2020 till 17 th May 2020. For your travel between these dates, you are eligible for a full refund.

• The airline is offering a full refund in the form of a Credit Shell. This can be used to make any future booking for the same number of passenger(s), should you choose to take it. Please visit MyTrips to raise a refund request.
• Due to the COVID-19 surge, Canada authorities have restricted the entry of Indian nationals travelling from India to Canada. If any flight booked by you between 23 rd April and 23 rd May ’21 has been impacted, you have the following options.

Opt for Full Refund or Free Date Change
