Jessie J (born 27 March 1988) aka Jessica Ellen Cornish is a Grammy nominated R&B/pop singer from London, England who showed the world how to “Do It Like a Dude” whilst telling us to forget about the “Price Tag”.

With talent recognised at a young age, Cornish began performing at the age of four starting with ballet, modern dance and jazz dancing before venturing down the acting route. Along with her siblings, they formed a girl group known as The Cornish Pasties aged seven and would perform for their family at gatherings. At nine, Cornish joined the cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage production of “Whistle down the Wind” but having a heart condition meant that whilst on day leave from the hospital she would spend it at rehearsals.

From there she joined the National Youth Theatre continuing with stage and at 15 she entered ITV’s talent show “Britain’s Best Pop Prodigy” going home with the top prize presented by Bee Gee, Robin Gibb. Once leaving school at 16 Cornish joined the prestigious performing arts institute, BRIT school whose alumni would include Adele, Amy Winehouse and Leona Lewis. At 17 Jessie joined pop girl group Soul Deep, however not feeling comfortable with the manufactured girl group status, she decided to go her own way.

In 2006, she signed a record deal with GUT Records but it wasn’t long before the label went bankrupt. Joining Sony/ATV with a publishing contract as a songwriter, she began penning tracks for other artists (including Miley Cyrus’ debut single “Party in the USA”) while continuing to work on her solo stuff and uploading content through YouTube. In 2008 Cornish caught the attention of Lava Records who fervently pursued her which eventually led to a joint venture with Universal Records, and thus the beginning of Jessie J’s path to stardom.

Although the writing process of her debut album began in 2008, “Who You Are” was released in 2011 which featured her first single “Do It like a Dude” hitting the UK charts at number two. Her follow up single “Price Tag” charted at number one in the UK and peaked at 23 in the US Billboard charts as Jessie J rapidly began making her way across the pond.

Caught up in the whirlwind of success, Jessie relentlessly promoted the album’s release touring across the world whilst garnering an unprecedented following. In 2012 Jessie shaved off all her hair on national television for BBC’s Children In Need helping to raise a record-breaking 75 million pounds for the charity event. Later that year she would join the BBC’s new talent show “The Voice” as a regular judge alongside Sir Tom Jones and Will.i.am.

In 2013 she released her second album “Alive” which peaked at number three on the UK album charts featuring the hit singles “Wild” and “It’s My Party”. The following year came album number three “Sweet Talker” with the lead single “Bang Bang” featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj debuting at number one in the UK and number three in the US, sending Jessie J into the stratosphere as she made her mark across the pond.

Within her career, Jessie has collaborated with a host of artists such as: James Morrison, Robin Thicke, Dizzee Rascal and David Guetta as well as playing: iTunes festival, V Festival, Glastonbury, The Big Chill and even took part in the 2012 London Olympic Games closing ceremony.

As well as winning over the hearts of audiences across the world, Jessie has amassed an incredible number of accolades including: six MOBO awards, the critic’s choice BRIT award, a Grammy nomination and to top that all off has achieved almost 15 million sales. On top of the world, there’s no stopping the tenacious, sassy and incredibly talented Jessie J.

Live reviews

Jessie J is probably most recognizable from the work that she’s done writing for artists like Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus, but she’s an amazing singer in her own right.

I saw her in person at Austin City Limits in Austin, Texas earlier this year and she blew us all away. The venue itself was great, and seats 2,700 while having everybody in the crowd feeling like they’re close to the stage. She’s got an amazing stage presence and her own songs are as catchy as anything that the artists she’s written for have ever put out.

She’s got a wonderful blend of R&B, pop, and electronic music that makes for easy listening and a guaranteed fun time. She’s got a wonderful talent for songwriting that makes itself apparent in every single one of her songs, which are all uniformly entertaining and hit the right notes at all the right times.

Even better, if you noticed her striking short hair, you might be even more impressed by the fact that she had it shaved off to raise a record $75 million for charity. If you like pop music at all, you owe it to yourself to catch this fantastic act in person.

Report as inappropriate

Jessie J, a graduate of the prestigious Brit school has become an internationally recognised singer with her pop/dance music and powerful vocal. When watching the performer live you get a sense of the passion she obtains for singing and playing live.

Supported by her own backing band, she tears into a setlist of her energetic dance inspired pop music with tracks such as 'Domino' and 'Sexy Lady'. She performs elaborate dance routines with her stage troupe yet manages to hit every note with ease and never once appears out of breath. She clearly learnt a lot about vocal control at Brit School and she is able to manipulate her voice to reach a variety of notes and freestyle with ease.

Often adding new outros and melodies to older tracks such as 'Who You Are' it is no secret that Jessie enjoys showing off her talent. Having a selection of British hit singles such as 'Price Tag', Jessie conducts huge singalongs before performing new international hit 'Bang Bang' which the audience go wild for. A charismatic singer who visibly enjoys what she does and this good feeling resonates to her audience.

Last week I had the pleasure of seeing my all time favourite singer, Jessie J, perform live in Liverpool. I have been a heartbeat for two years now, so it was a dream come true! It was my first ever live concert, and trust me, I was not disappointed! Her vocals were out of this world, she connected and interacted with the audience, she was funny, and extremely inspirational! That whole night I just stared at her in awe, and I felt so happy and free from the rest of the world. She put all her heart into her show, despite being tired. I am so excited to see her live again, and I really hope that it’s soon! To anyone reading this, if you’re thinking about going to see Jessie J live, I would definitely recommend it! You will be in for an absolute treat!

I'm so glad I got to see Jessie J. What an amazing performer. Her energy on stage is superb! Funny thing is that she was sick. She did not sound sick at all. Her voice was perfect, you could never hear any sort of her being sick when she sang at all! I hope to see her perform at a larger venue one day.

Inspirational, soul-moving, hip-busting. A night to remember. Shes got the vocals to keep you on your toes all night long. I would see her a million times over. She gave me goosebumps and she is a very humble straight talking independent power woman.

One of the best shows I have attended. She sang her face off (as she promised), had fun on the stage, and made each moment engaging and enjoyable. Have enjoyed her music and artistry for over a decade and will clearly be attending more concerts.

Wielding seismic vocals that register on the Richter scale, unbridled soul, confessional lyrics, and empowering attitude, the multiplatinum BRIT Award-winning and GRAMMY® Award-nominated songstress Jessie J touches hearts every time she steps up to a microphone. With over 1.5 billion streams, countless gold and platinum certifications, and 23 million record sales to date, the singer’s voice continues to ring out in nearly every corner of the globe.

In 2011, she carved out a spot on the world stage with her full-length debut, Who You Are . Not only did it go platinum, but it also bowed in the Top 15 of the Billboard Top 200 and yielded six Top 10 smashes at radio. Among those, “Price Tag” [feat. B.o.B] clinched #1 in 18 territories and eventually became quadruple-platinum. The double-platinum “Domino” arrived on its heels. Countless accolades followed with the prestigious BRIT Award for “Critic’s Choice,” BBC’s “Sound of 2011,” and an invitation to serve as the 2012 London Olympic Games Ambassador. 2014 exploded as her once in a lifetime team-up “Bang Bang”—with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj—dominated charts and earned a six-times platinum certification. Her sophomore set, Sweet Talker , entered the Top 200 in the Top 10.

In 2016, Jessie J took over the big screen, making her debut as Sid's love interest, Brooke, in Ice Age: Collision Course . She also opened Fox’s Grease Live with a cover of the title song “Grease Is the Word.”

In between jaw-dropping performances everywhere, she underwent an impressive transformation throughout 2017. Opening up like never before, she crafted an epic body of work in the form of R.O.S.E. [Realizations, Obsessions, Sex, and Empowerment] . Released in four parts over 2018, she brought this confessional opus to the masses with sold out shows on both sides of the pond and amplified her impact dramatically in the process. At the same time, she capped off the year with her first-ever holiday album, This Christmas Day . The project boasted dream collaborations with Boyz II Men and Babyface as she breathed new life into numerous Christmas staples.

A decade since she started uploading now-classic bedroom covers, and Jessie J’s voice keeps getting bolder, better, and bigger. First single “I Want Love” off her new project, executive produced by Ryan Tedder, was released in 2021 to rave reviews. With further new music in the works and anticipation mounting, the next generation might just belong to her too.

Where should I park? What time do car parks and gates open?

Complimentary car parking is provided in our new car park located off Hurst Lane, Auckley, DN9 3HQ. This car park is approximately a 20-minute walk from the concert field and is free of charge.

Parking close to the concert field can be purchased at an additional cost of £20.00 per vehicle. This can only be purchased online in advance. Stage parking is located near DN4 6TB and can be accessed at any time from 10.00am if you have purchased tickets for a visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park during the day. Please note this is not priority parking but is the closest to the stage and concert field and there may be a delay in leaving this car park as there would be with any large scale outdoor event.

The site we use for the event is a green field – it’s a grass surface and doesn’t have any pathways. Mostly, the area is reasonably flat and even, as it’s regularly used for car parking. Nevertheless, please consider the ground conditions, and the possible impact of the changeable British weather, when deciding what facilities or equipment you wish to bring.

The entrance to the concert area is approximately a 25-minute walk from the new main entrance and car parks to the concert field. Guests with a blue badge will be able to park adjacent to the concert field in the stage side car park. Performance date: Friday 21st June 2024

In 2016, Jessie J took over the big screen, making her debut as Sid’s love interest, Brooke, in Ice Age: Collision Course .

Eurovision winner Loreen and Jessie J to headline Manchester Pride 2024

This year’s edition will run between August 23 and 26

Jessie J and Loreen

The first wave of artists for Manchester Pride 2024 have been announced, with Jessie J and Loreen set to headline two of the four nights.

  • READ MORE: Eurovision legend Loreen: “Of course I do spiritual pop… That sense of release is so important.”

This year’s edition of Manchester Pride will span across four days – running between August 23 and 26. Now, it has been confirmed that BRIT Award nominee Jessie J and two-time Eurovision winner Loreen have been lined up as headliners.

Loreen took the Eurovision crown home at last year’s Song Contest , representing Sweden with her song ‘Tattoo’. It marked her second victory after having won for the first time back in 2012. For Jessie J, the headline slot comes after a variety of accolades across her career, which she kicked off back in 2010 with the hit single ‘Do It Like A Dude’.

Others added to the line-up for the four-day live event include Katy B , Chinchilla, reigning Drag Race UK winner Ginger Johnson, Steps ‘ Claire Richards and Atomic Kitten ‘s Natasha Hamilton.

Bimini , Danny Beard and Black Peppa will also be performing at the 2024 edition, and another headline act is set to be revealed at a later date.

You can find tickets to Manchester Pride 2024 here , and check out the current line-up in the poster below.

As reported by BBC , a representative for the event said the festival site would revolve around three performance spaces in Manchester’s Gay Village. These comprise the Village Stage “which occupies an outdoor car park in the middle of the event site”, the Alan Turing Stage in Sackville Gardens, and the Indoor Arena, which would provide “a warehouse-style clubbing experience”.

As well as promising another headliner soon, Chief Executive Mark Fletcher also revealed that “a few surprises” would be revealed “over the coming months”.

He also said there would be “a huge variety of entertainment on offer this year”, including a “host of classic Pride favourites, emerging artists, drag royalty and well-known performers spanning a whole range of genres”.

“Each year we ask our communities what they’d like to see at the festival and I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to respond with this line-up. Jessie J and Loreen are outstanding performers [and] it’s brilliant to have them sharing the stage with local queer talent and supporting us as we continue to push the Pride movement forward,” he said (via BBC News ).

He added what was “most important” for the festival was the “representation and visibility of the further marginalised LGBTQ+ people”.

Last summer, following her Eurovision victory, Loreen sat down with NME to discuss her plans for new music and the feeling of taking home the song contest trophy for the second time.

She also opened up about how she would categorise her style of music, and said that she agrees with a fan’s comment that it is “spiritual pop”.

“It’s exactly what it is. Of course, I do spiritual pop. The dynamics in my songs – if you look at ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Tattoo’ – there is a spiritual thing going on there. You start with this small whispery thing, then you start building energy and being stronger and stronger, until you come to the chorus where it’s full-on power,” she explained.

“This is spiritual in a way because it’s almost like watching a movie and getting to the place where you start crying and feel a release. And that release is so important. We get it from clubbing, dancing, music – and we need it, because otherwise [there’s] a lot of stagnation in the body. So there’s a purpose to why I use certain dynamics, because you can’t really just scream at somebody [from the start]. You have to really build up – almost like trust, in a way, until you come to the point of release. And [in that moment] it could be that you cry or feel happy or whatever. But it is a spiritual build-up.”
