No words need to be said when you can come out on the stage and coax your guitar into a wave of beautiful sounds.

John Mayer was like a breath of fresh air when I heard his "No Room for Squares" album in 2002 – I still remember being in a friend's car on the way to a gig we were playing at and hearing the incredible opening guitar riff on "Neon". We must have played that track 20 times on that car journey!

Fast forward five years to the point where I'm stood watching him sing Tom Petty's incredible "Free Fallin'" live in concert. An absolute must-listen-to for people of all ages. It's a timeless song that will never grow old, and when you see John play that song in concert, it's as though the notes are so crisp and unwavering. This one unfeasibly talented man and his guitar have the audience in the palm of his hand, hanging on every syllable.

I've seen John 11 times now – including that occasion. These days his songs are so well known that when he is singing, you can see the crowd swaying from side to side singing every word. He's such an energetic performer; he doesn't just stand there and sing, he really rocks out swinging his guitar around. He must have sung these words a hundred times, but when you're there watching him, they sound as fresh and new to him as if he just wrote the song on the spot. I love how he never plays songs the way you expect them: he's always playing about with the rhythms, extending out the solos – you're really getting the live experience when he plays, not just the album version. He's really generous towards the other guys in the band too, and I'm sure they must be honored to play with such an incredible musician.

If (God forbid) you haven't yet heard of John Mayer and you need some persuading, he's a Grammy winner, he has collaborated with the likes of B.B. King and Eric Clapton, and he's got his own intensely creative style. John Mayer really takes his concerts to the next level by wowing audiences of young and old all the way through. Go see him, you'll be blown away!

It's difficult to find an artist who is able to captivate his audience through the strum of his guitar alone, and John Mayer is exactly that man. He rose to fame back in 2001 with the release of his debut album 'Room For Squares', showcasing his blue-eyed soul sound to the rest of the world.

From then on his success has only grown stronger along with his fan-base who is mostly made up of women swooning after his handsome looks. This was made evident during his show at the O2 Arena, London with the majority of attendees being women ready to fall in love with the singer face to face.

The set design remained strip back for the entire show only allowing fans to really focus on the acoustics of his guitar which accompany his country, folk vocals. The audience, including myself were mesmerised from start to finish by the talent this American holds.

Mayer didn't disappoint fans by creating a set list that covered some of his most-well known tracks as well as songs from his latest album 'Paradise Valley'. As well as this, he treated the audience to a stripped down version of Beyonce's 'XO' which in turn has become incredibly popular.

Throughout the show Mayer thanked the audience for buying a ticket to see him, as well as throwing a few jokes about with his band members only causing us to fall deeper in love.

He is able to sing live with a raw sound which makes him sound even more captivating live, and it is this reason alone you should go and grab a ticket to one of his shows as soon as you can.

WHAT A MAGICAL EVENING OF PURE MUSIC & ART!

The Viejas Arena at the SDSU campus is simply a fabuous venue- and on a perfect cool night in San Diego, the sold out show was an artistic masterpiece- the setlists were spot on. The artsy colorful 3D Backdrop, that I believe Mayer himself was a key designer in its creation, blended beautifully with the video montages displayed above it.

Speaking of the video special effects- subtle, colorful, real-time gems, shadow effects in a stacatto pattern of the guitar neck, I've never seen anything like it in 40 years of concert outings. The crowd was captivated- a long 30 minute intermission appeared relatively early in the show.

I've been going to John Mayer shows since 2002 and though I am obviously a biased super-fan, I can honestly state that this production is-- far and away-- much more amazing than what I saw at the Forum just two years ago.

JM is continuously expanding horizons, getting more creative-- and has the crowd in stitches laughing when he chats up his latest insights & specific San Diego references... I just wish I had the whole show on video so I could watch it again and catch every little thing I missed!

This was the uhm.. my fourth time seeing him. Two of those were on Pinkpop and those were incredibly enjoyable. Sunshine, a drink and people who adore him too. (But not like I do.)

I've seen him before in the exact venue but this time I had better places. I bought the tickets before anyone else for me and a friend but we couldn't sit together, not the entire show. Slow Dancing always does something to me and I knew it would be in his set even though he said he would play whatever HE wanted cause it was the last show of the tour. As soon as it started I felt even happier. He did tease a little at the start of most songs so you didn't immediately knew which song was happening but oh my god do I love jam sessions and guitar solo's. It was beautiful. I could talk about this for hours but I have things to do and I normally don't even type this much about a gig I went to unless it's in my diary, but even then it's not like this cause I go to too many concerts and festivals and I do too much, but I enjoy, I live and I love. John Mayer's music will always be connected to those three things. Always.

Well, without a doubt mr. Mayer can play. But the concert itself was mediocre at best. Apparantly they chose for the setup with ´chapters´. There were four of those (if you don't count the single piano thingy at the end). The first chapter was ith the whole band, the second was a solo acoustic part, the third was the John Mayer Trio and the fourth with the whole band again. There was one main reason why the concert was mediocre, there was no flow, no build-up. Between the chapters there was 5 minutes of silence and even a small documentary between 2 and 3 silence to make the stage ready for the next chapter and the guitarists including Mayer had to change guitar between every single song. It's like going the a club and between every single song the DJ stops the music to find the next song to play. As far as sound goes, it was alright, I find it too loud (as always), but that's just a matter of earplugs, so no complaints there. On a scale from 1-10, I'd give it a 5.5, barely acceptable and not what you expect from an artist like this.

Excellent show! Just about the best setlist of any of his dozen plus shows I've seen. If you are on the fence about wanting to see John Mayer live, stop it! This is one of the top guitarists of this generation, IMO he is the best. His songwriting and band are also top notch! Steve Jordan on drums, Pino Palladino on bass and David Ryan Harris on guitar are all back. Isiah Sharkey a Chicago based guitar player is also along this time around. KILLER!

Every show is well thought out and he doesn't recycle setlists. You can see back to back to back shows and they will all be different. Ask me how I know. I make it a point to see as many shows every tour as my work schedule will allow.

There is absolutely no downside to checking him out. I can't wait until JUL when he comes back around to the LA area for a few more shows.

It all started with a bang! John was out and rocked the crowd - but something seemed off... As the night progressed, the once happy mode of the crowd seemed to fade away. And I just got this feeling: John isn't here for us. Throughout the set the songs were delivered with less and less enthusiasm.

All of a sudden, David Ryan Harris got the spotlight. And the crowd was mesmerised for a minute or two. The song that followed brought back the feeling of connection between the band and the audience. Sadly, that connection only lasted until the next song. And again it felt like John was up there performing for himself.

I was deeply disappointed by this show. My expectations where sky high and afterward I was so angry and bitter. My once great idol, whom I had almost bragged about from time to time, was my idol no more.

My Husband and I were blown away at the complete show. John is a master of master's at playing the guitar. I still can't get over how amazing it was to watch him get into playing and what we heard. It made so much of a great difference seeing him in person play. His band is extremely talented with the gifts they brought to the stage too. This year we've seen 4 concerts so far and John Mayer was the best! I hope he continues to perform for many years because we'll see him every time if he comes to Phoenix or Tucson (where we live). John spoke to the crowd and made us laugh during the show. They even dropped confetti on the main floor during their encore - it was so cool!! No other band this year we saw live did as much for the crowd entertainment as John Mayer.

Holy. I'm not in love with his most recent album, but immediately upon taking the stage I was reminded as to why I've loved seeing his shows in the past. This guy is an incredible musician. Not only a talented songwriter, but what he can do on the guitar, and then harmonica, piano and his whistling? I know. Really. Whistling. BA. The set list was a great mix of old and new and he was genuinely engaging and engaged with the audience. It was particularly cool that the setup moved from the full band, to an acoustic set, to the trio, and back again. You got to see his full range. So glad we went.

It was his birthday and his band played Happy Birthday To You for him after the first song, Belief!

After the intermission, he covered Tougher Than The Rest by Bruce Springsteen, saying that it was one of his favourite songs of all time.

It was a good setlist: he played some songs that he doesn't usually play, like Waitin' On The Day, Born And Raised or In Your Atmosphere.

Before playing Changing, he said that to finish the song he thought about Irish people in a pub singing it together, and that every time he sings it he thinks about Ireland.

He and all the band were really great.

Mayer released Sob Rock  — his first solo effort since 2017’s The Search for Everything — on Friday, July 16th.

“No one is more aware of what people think about John Mayer than John Mayer himself,” Rolling Stone wrote in our Sob Rock review . “The title of his eighth studio album acknowledges past accusations of sad-boy mopery. The muted pastels of the throwback cover art, complete with a simulation of the ‘Nice Price’ sticker that Columbia Records used to slap on its bargain LPs, dares you to call him a purveyor of slick, dated studio-rock.”
