I think the address may have changed based on mapping. It is on the Cours Saleya. We were walking around trying a find a spot to eat at about 5, a difficult time in Nice where most fine dining restaurants are closed until 7. Of the open spots this seemed the best bet based on the menu and vibe. Did not disappoint! Attentive service, and fine food. Had a whole artichoke special appetizer with a Dijon dipping sauce, and calamari with an aioli. For entrees a Niçoise salad, a pasta with pesto, and a simple grilled salmon with sautéed squash and mashed potatoes. Everything was truly delicious and fresh.
We found this place by accident in the afternoon period when most restaurants along the riviera close between lunch and dinner. We didn't expect much since it's in a very touristy area in old town, but we found the food to be delicious. They had s fes vegetarian options. We ended up splitting a pizza and mozzarella do búfala salad, both were incredibly fresh and delicious. The service was very friendly as well and like most restaurants along this street, the patio was super cute
Service was okay, ambience was nice, food was mediocre or worse. I had a pizza with prosciutto and tomatoes and it had absolutely no taste. My wife had the linguine in pesto and we could barely eat it. My son had a pizza also with cheese and anchovies and it was decent. The place was packed and we were recommended to this place one of the France guides we read before we came but the author must have been greased by the shop as I would never eat here again. Sorry but it was subpar and Terrible. We are foodies and always have something good to say about where we eat.
Liked the steak the first night I went there. I ended up going's the second time and had pizza. We enjoyed the pizza too.
I've tried their ravioli and it was SOOOO delicious that I couldn't take a picture hands down the best dish I've tried in this area!
The host who sat us seemed nice enough. Otherwise mediocre all around. We wanted to try authentic Nice cuisine, but in all fairness, we're not eggplant fans. Our appetizers, some kind of not very flavorful oily pepper and anchovy dish and stuffed eggplant and pepper with salad, were just OK. My husband had the stewed beef and ravioli entrée, which he says was tasty if you're into such things. My margarita pizza was decent but nothing special. Prices were decent. And we had the pleasure of sitting between two tables of smokers There are so many good restaurants in the area, you can do better.
Not giving 5 stars because they have to have something to thrive for. The pizzas are really good, the fried calamari is awesome. Great staff, very friendly, would recommend.
Front seating area
Pretty sure this is where the locals tell all the American tourists to go to keep us out of the spots they frequent. We tried several dishes and while they weren't bad, nothing was notable. Actually, I take it back, don't order the fish soup. The soup aside, it got the job done. I think the gnocchi was the best thing we ordered. Also, I just returned from Rome, so maybe I was a bit jaded at the offerings. It's a decent spot with good people watching, but I bet there's better.
I'm going back again before my trip is over! I found this place quite by accident. I was on my way to a famous pastry shop when I walked by. As I walked by a waitress delivered to some guests what looked like thee most delicious fish plate ever! It stopped me in my tracks, it looked that good!! After the pastry shop I went back and asked her for that same fish. I've traveled all over the world, I'm not joking when I say that fish is the best I have ever tasted! Perfection Chef, PERFECTION! I'll add a pic when I go back!
Racist table manager. The table manager treated us badly because of our race. First he pushed us to the back when there clearly was a free table at the front. He seated us in the back in an impolite and disrespectful manner. Then the he seated Caucasian people at the table in the front with a big smile. Then another table in the front was free and we asked to be changed. He again treated us in a disrespectful manner and left us waiting. He never came back with an answer and suddenly seated again other Caucasian people at the free table in the front with a big smile. We asked for a better treatment and he refused to admit his racist manners. He treated all Caucasian people with a big smile and all others in a bad way. At the end I tried to talk to the manager but his only answer was to say that the table manager is a regular. I can't believe this can happen at all, let alone in such a touristic city. It is very sad. The food was good and the waitress treated us well but that kind of treatment is unbelievable in this day and age.

“Our favorite restaurant at Cours Saleya” Review of Le Safari
Safari is known for serving traditional provencal (nicois) food. Please come hungry (or share a starter) - the portions are huge!! If there is no al-fresco-table available, don't hesitate to step inside (the interior rooms with dark wooden beams have their own charm). The waiters are very busy and therefore not too cordial... this should not discourage you asking for a table. Although the Safari is frequented by tourists, you can meet many locals enjoying their dinner there (it seems that french people like Pizza fresh from the wood oven...)

Restarant has big terrase so it's little bit noisy also because of crowded square where a lot of restaurants are placed. Probably there will be more comfortable inside. We tried assortment of nicoise starters (nothing special), calamars aux artichauts (amazing), risotto st. jaques (st. jaques is good but risottonis far from italian best samples). We also took tiramissu, profitroles aux chocolats and crem brule for deserts and they were all excelent. The bill amount (including bottle of local whit wine and water) was 105 euro
Entrecote was barely edible. My wife had nicosian style raviolis which were rather typical. Atmosphere is great and service is good. Nice location too. I guess the experience depends on your menu. It's either hit or miss.
Le Safari is in the heart of Old Nice, on Cours Saleya, and is definitely just as much about people watching as about dining. We had a better then average dinner at Le Safari in June of this year, inclusive of a salad, pretty delicious pizza, and lamb chops, accompanied by chilled Rose', and served by a pretty friendly, English speaking waiter. It was a lovely, warm evening, with lots of couples and families strolling up and down Cours Saleya, and one of those street entertainer funny guys following them, sticking a clown nose on and surprising them; making animal baloons for their kids. What's not to enjoy?
We dined at the Safari on June 17, 2011. The food was good but not outstanding. We had a wonderful waitress, but like many dinners in France, serve took forever. We were a party of four, started at 7:45 and ended at 11:30. We dinned outdoors and the people watching was fun. But it should be remembered that this is a crowded restaurant in a crowded part of town. It is expensive, but everything in Nice seems to be expensive. I would have a reservation, especially if you are anywhere near the weekend. We didn’t. We lucked into a table because a reservation was a no-show…otherwise we would have waited more than an hour (by the same token, tables inside were open, so if you don’t mind eating inside, you might do better). We enjoyed the experience, not sure that I’d go back, however. I’m sure that for the prices there are equally good if not better restaurants. Still, all in all, it was a good experience.

“All day food at the Cours Saleya” Review of Le Safari
I have dined at this Restaurant many times and at all times of the day and night. It is always crowded. The Patron will always make sure to get you a seat, even if it means sharing a table. The food is great, Salads and Meats, nicely cooked and well presented. The staff are friendly and efficient. I keep going back.

A very nice place for a lunch either on the terrace or even inside. No tourist trap, prices go in line with the area, service issometimes not perfect but usualy friendly. If you like to eat at the flowermarket it is a good choice, not always easy to find a place though.
I've tried several restaurants in the Cours Saleya and they're all pretty much the same, average. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food selection is reasonable. I went for the Calamares with Artichokes which were recommended by a local business associate who was with us. It was good but not exceptional. The highlight of the evening was an interesting white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. At the end of the day, you go to Cours Saleya for the atmosphere and not for the gourmet cuisine.
Our party of 6 managed to get a table outside at Le Safari. It was a sunny early March day the market was buzzing and the ambience was great. Tables very close together, but hey ho everybody was there to enjoy. We ordered the food and without exception the food was great. However, the scallop risotto was superb unfortunately this was not my dish !! My dish of calamari with a side of chips, hand made was very good indeed. The portion was generous and a rare event occured I had to leave some food. The service was friendly with the waiter producing an unrequested hat to protect my head against the sun, this was greatly appreciated. Is it a little touristy ? Yes Was I a tourist ? Yes No problem then. Is it a little expensive ? Yes Would I recommend ? Yes. Would I go back ? Yes. Did the the whole party enjoy ? Yes. Ps tried to return next day, but this time unable to get a table.
Le Safari, located t the very end of the Cours Saleya, has become one of our favourite restaurants in Nice. It doesn't disappoint in the food department and we like the fact that the clientele, especially in the winter months, is mainly locals, couples and family groups. Certainly it has never felt like a tourist trap as some reviewers have complained. If you want a table outside for lunch arrive by 12:15 since on nice days the patio fills quickly. The drawback to the patio is the number of smokers. So if cigarette smoke bothers you go inside where smoking is not allowed.

Cours Saleya
Located at the heart of Vieux Nice, Cours Saleya is an essential living space, known for its iconic flower market, as well as the sunny terraces of the bars and restaurants which surround it.
Formerly a festive hub for social life, Cours Saleya is one of the most famous places in the Côte d'Azur. In the second half of the 19th century it was here that the floats of the Carnaval de Nice paraded, since moved to the Promenade des Anglais, then to Place Masséna. Today, this iconic place is vibrant from the morning to the evening. Particularly known for its flower market, it also hosts other stalls of fruit and vegetables, local handicrafts as well as many gourmet specialities. Thanks to its colours, flavours and scents, it is ranked among France's 100 most picturesque markets. On Mondays, it gives way to an antiques market. In summer, an evening arts and crafts market moves in and enlivens holidaymakers' evenings. Cours Saleya is also a living space with its traditional produce shops as well as its restaurants and bars which extend onto huge sunny terraces. And to observe all this at a single glance, do not hesitate to climb to the top of the stairs at Les Ponchettes, opposite Place Pierre Gaultier, to enjoy a panoramic view over all this vitality.

The Cours Saleya market
Located in the heart of Vieux Nice, the Cours Saleya market has been around since 1816 and is recognized as being of exceptional quality.
Stop for a moment to admire the spectacle of row upon row of stalls with their gaily-striped awnings, set against the backdrop of Castle Hill and its artificial waterfall. On both sides stand historic buildings painted red and ochre, arcades and then the sea. The flowers, fruit and vegetables sold here are picked fresh daily by local growers.
Walk from stand to stand – and then retrace your steps. You’ll find locally-grown courgettes, lemons from the Nice hinterland and olives. Go a little further to find fish and freshly-caught Mediterranean seafood. Breathe in the aromas emanating from bunches of peonies, freesias and of course, roses, the queen of flowers. Finally, take the weight off your feet at one of the many outdoor café and restaurant terraces.
