20 UNIQUE THINGS TO DO IN LOS ANGELES

Known as the “City of Angels,” Los Angeles is an expansive city (the second largest in the United States), offering so much to do and see! Los Angeles is a major travel hub and one of the most visited cities in California so it caters to a wide variety of travelers and offers an array of tourist attractions.

Famous for being the nation’s entertainment industry capitol, tourists flock to Los Angeles to experience the wonderful year-round sunny weather, great restaurants and hotels, and unique attractions such as the Hollywood Sign Hike and the Walk of Fame. Los Angeles is an ideal destination year-round for a girls’ getaway, bachelorette party, couples trip, or family vacation.

I was born in Los Angeles and have lived here off and on for much of my life. From a local’s perspective here are 20 unique things to do in Los Angeles!

1) Hollywood Sign Hike

Hollywood Sign Hike is iconic and is a must-do activity when visiting Los Angeles! This hike is the perfect way to spend a morning or afternoon outside in nature, taking in amazing views of the city. Recently I did a Private Hollywood Sign Hike  and it helped me appreciate how beautiful Los Angeles is.

Here are highlights from my hike which was about three hours long and a great way to get in a fun workout. During the hike, our guide told us stories about the entertainment industry, Griffith Park, and how the Hollywood sign came to be what it is today.

2) Electric Bike Tour of Santa Monica & Venice

If you’re new to Los Angeles the best way to explore by bike is to do a bike tour. I booked the  Electric Bike Tour of Santa Monica & Venice  and I was surprised by how much we saw and how fun it was! This three-hour tour is a great way to see Venice and Santa Monica and learn some history about these bustling beach cities.

Check out highlights from my electric bike tour!

If a bike tour is not your thing and you just want to go on a bike ride, there are several bike rental shops near the Santa Monica Pier. You can rent your own bikes and ride around the pier and down to Venice Beach along the boardwalk. There are tons of great restaurants and bars in Venice so it’s a great place to stop and grab lunch or drinks on your bike.

3) Malibu VW Bus Tour + Wine Tasting

There’s no better way to enjoy an afternoon in Los Angeles than taking a tour of Malibu that ends with wine wasting! Discover Malibu’s beautiful coastline and wine culture while cruising in a classic 1972 VW camper van during this sightseeing trip from Santa Monica. Enjoy sightseeing, ocean views, wine tasting, and iconic coastal gems.

We did this tour and loved it. Check out highlights from our Malibu tour!

4) Surf Lessons In Malibu

Malibu is 26 miles of pristine coastline that stretches up the coast from Los Angeles. It’s a must-visit and if you’re taking the trip to Malibu why not make it an unforgettable experience and take a surf lesson at iconic Surfrider Beach?

I’ve been teaching surfing for almost 20 years and I offer private surf lessons , year-round in Malibu and Santa Barbara. I’d love to take you surfing when you’re in town.

We’ll meet near the Malibu pier where you’ll have a chance to experience a surf culture like no other, along with the scenic beauty of Malibu as we paddle out to the sparkling waves at First Point. Your lesson includes two hours of one-on-one tailored instruction, a surfboard rental, and of course lots of photos.

5) Private Helicopter Tour

See the very best of Los Angeles from a bird’s eye perspective on this 1 Hour Private Helicopter Tour . Admire epic views of the world-famous Hollywood Sign, Universal Studios, Downtown LA, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Santa Monica Pier, and celebrity homes.

I did a Los Angeles helicopter tour a few years ago and loved it. The incredible views are well worth the price!

6) Lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel

The Beverly Hills Hotel  is iconic, to say the least. This legendary spot oozes vintage glamour and modern luxury. Book a table at the Polo Lounge or the Cabana Cafe to enjoy lunch and excellent people-watching.

Known for LA power dining, the Polo Lounge has long been a favorite lunch spot for stars and Hollywood deal-makers. For instance, my friend ran into Chris Hemsworth (Thor) here this summer and snapped a photo with him.

On the street, in front of the hotel, is also a great spot to take Instagram-worthy shots with the famous BH Hotel sign in the backdrop. The Beverly Hills Hotel  is also a perfect place to stay for a weekend getaway in Los Angeles!

7) Hollywood Walk of Fame + TCL Chinese Theater

One of Hollywood’s most iconic and memorable sites, the TCL Chinese Theater (originally Grauman’s Chinese Theatre) opened in 1927 and represents the excess of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Tours are offered from 10:15 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day except Monday ($18 adults, $8 kids, $14 senior tickets).

When you visit the TCL Chinese Theater be sure to also take a stroll along the Hollywood Walk of Fame (open to the public 24 hours a day), where hundreds of movie stars have been commemorated by putting their permanent handprints and signatures on the sidewalk.

The most notable names on the Hollywood Walk of Fame are located between the 6800 and 6900 block of Hollywood Boulevard (directly in front of the theater). My grandma, actress Debbie Reynolds , and my aunt, actress Carrie Fisher , both have stars there!

8) Universal Studios VIP Tour

Experience a day of action-packed entertainment at Universal Studios Hollywood with this Universal Studios VIP Tour  that allows you to go behind the scenes of the world’s largest movie studio and theme park.

With this tour, you’ll skip the long lines at all the attractions and get exclusive access to VIP areas. You’ll enjoy complimentary valet parking at the park entrance, a full breakfast buffet, and a gourmet lunch in a private dining lounge open only to VIPs.

9) Marina Del Rey Electric Duffy Boat Cruise

Relax and unwind on a 2-hour Marina Del Rey Boat Cruise With Wine & Cheese  departing from the famed harbor at Marina Del Rey. You’ll enjoy wine and delicacies while cruising in a fully electric Duffy boat.

During this cruise, you’ll see hidden spots in the marina and local wildlife, including sea lions, and a variety of birds. I did an electric Duffy boat cruise earlier this year and it was so fun! It’s a small boat so you’re close to the water so it allows you to fully experience everything at sea level.

Book This Tour:  Marina Del Rey Cruise With Wine & Cheese

10) Shopping on Rodeo Drive

No Los Angeles girls’ getaway is complete without a shopping day on Rodeo Drive. Made famous by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman , Rodeo Drive is an upscale shopping street in Beverly Hills that is home to luxury boutiques and designer stores such as Channel, Prada, Jimmy Choo, and Gucci.

There are several parking lots on and near Rodeo Drive so you can just drive there, park, and spend the afternoon window shopping. This area also has a lot of great restaurants.

One of my favorite lunch spots is Il Pastaio on Canon Drive. This hot spot is a celebrity favorite. They don’t take reservations but they have excellent pasta, a great wine selection, outdoor seating, and the best people-watching, so it is well worth the wait.

11) Griffith Observatory & Griffith Park

If you do the Hollywood Sign Hike  you will be exploring some of Griffith Park but Griffith Observatory is also worth a visit. Griffith Observatory sits on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park and offers incredible views of the Los Angeles Basin including Downtown Los Angeles to the southeast, Hollywood to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest.

Griffith Observatory is said to be “southern California’s gateway to the cosmos.” Visitors can look through telescopes, explore exhibits, and see live shows.

12) Pacific Palisades + Malibu Day Trip

While in Los Angeles you should spend one day exploring the picturesque beach towns of Pacific Palisades and Malibu. Just ten minutes from Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades is an affluent residential neighborhood tucked between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

The Village in Pacific Palisades is a beautiful little shopping area that is worth a visit. While there pop into Angelini for a good Italian lunch and wine.

Then head on to Malibu where you can stop and explore the Malibu Pier and have a craft cocktail at Malibu Farm Restaurant  while you watch the surfers at famed Surfrider Beach.

Next, you can head on to Malibu Country Mart . This upscale shopping center has an array of cute boutiques and designer shops as well as great restaurants, and several playgrounds for kids.

13) Shopping at The Grove + Historic Farmer’s Market

The Grove is a luxury shopping center and entertainment complex designed by Caruso that is located on parts of the historic Farmers Market. At The Grove, you’ll find a mix of retail, restaurants, and entertainment in a luxurious, open-air environment.

This fancy open-air mall is definitely worth a visit when you’re in Los Angeles. It is an ideal spot great place to grab lunch, go shopping, see a movie, or peruse the Historic Farmer’s Market .

14) Lunch At The Ivy On Robertson

If you want to feel like a celebrity, have lunch at The Ivy on Robertson. The Ivy Restaurant on Robertson is known for its stylish, buzzy setting, upscale Californian cuisine, and constant celeb sightings. The Ivy can be hard to get into though so be sure to make a reservation well in advance.

The area around The Ivy on Robertson Boulevard is crowded with boutiques, paparazzi trying to get shots of celebrities, and tourists. An MSNBC article called The Ivy “a celebrity beehive that sees a constant stream of Hummers, Mercedes, and Jaguars pull up and discharge folks who pay through the nose to be seen eating in public.”

There is excellent shopping on Robertson so I suggest going shopping and then grabbing lunch at The Ivy. This restaurant is also great for baby showers, birthday parties, and other special events but be warned, it’s very pricey.

15) Secret Food Tour

Experience what happens when good food meets culinary creativity on this 3 Hour Secret Food Tour ! This unique Los Angeles tour can be booked as a private tour or a group tour.

This fun walking tour will take you through the boardwalk, Abbot Kinney Boulevard, and the heart of Venice Beach. You’ll enjoy seafood on the pier, Tuna Poke on Muscle Beach, Italian fair in Venice, tacos, donuts and more!

16) Concert At The Hollywood Bowl

No trip to Los Angeles would be complete without seeing a show at the famed Hollywood Bowl . The Hollywood Bowl is an impressive amphitheater in the Hollywood Hills. It was named one of the 10 best live music venues in America by Rolling Stone Magazine.

You can check out their calendar to view their lineup and pick a show. Currently, upcoming performers include: Shania Twain, Matchbox Twenty, Janet Jackson, Andrea Bocelli, comedian Ricky Gervais, and Reba McEntire.

Surround yourself with beautiful horses at a ranch located just under the iconic Hollywood sign. You’ll be amazed by unparalleled views of Los Angeles, the incredible hills of the famous Griffith Park and the interesting, historical stories your tour guide will share with you during the ride.

This is a great tour for families and anyone who loves animals or wants to see the Hollywood Sign but doesn’t want to do the hike up to it.

The 420 Cannabis Experience begins at Universal Studios Hollywood, near the Burbank studio tour. After meeting your group and presenting your passports, you’ll climb aboard your comfortable chartered bus.

Your knowledgeable guide will give you an insider’s perspective on the booming legal cannabis industry in California. Each trip caters to the personality and vibe of each group!

19) Paragliding

Have you ever dreamed of paragliding? If so, Los Angeles is a great place to do it! With this 30-Minute Tandem Paragliding Experience, you’ll fly like a bird along the coastline. Take to the sky on a large paraglider with an instructor and see the breathtaking views of the ocean and wildlife.

I have not tried this tour yet but I have always dreamed of trying paragliding. It definitely looks like an incredible memory to have from your visit to Los Angeles!

Book This Tour: 30-Minute Tandem Paragliding Experience

20) Lunch At Gladstones

A staple in Malibu since 1972, Gladstones is a family-friendly beachside restaurant featuring classic seafood dishes, burgers, and beach-inspired cocktails.

Located at the famous intersection of PCH and Sunset Blvd—where the sun meets the sea, Gladstones is a fun place to have lunch or an early dinner with sparkling views of the coastline. It’s also a great place to stop and watch the surfers at Sunset Point (located at the south end of Gladstone’s parking lot).

The beach in front of Gladstone’s is also a great place to spend a fun beach day!

Your guide to Los Angeles

What do locals do in los angeles.

Like in any big city, where you go and what you do can really depend on who you ask. However, Los Angeles isn’t just an urban playground, it’s a city that stretches out to the beach, up the hills, and even into a canyon. One thing is certain: Don’t expect to find people hopping from West Hollywood to Manhattan Beach in one day unless it’s a special occasion — LA traffic is very real, and most people plan day trips when leaving their respective neighborhood.

Dine in Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA)

Over the last 20 years, the DTLA scene has changed dramatically from a place where nobody walks in LA to an area buzzing with award-winning restaurants, museums, shopping, and entertainment. Old Hollywood charm exudes from early 1900s buildings, where at the press of an elevator button, you’re zipped up to rooftop bars for happy hour; meanwhile inside the historic Grand Central Market, food tours led by locals lead you to some of the best bites in LA. For those short on time or want to skip the ride shares: Hop on the Metro to quickly get from place to place. Little Tokyo and the Arts District are some of the favorite go-to areas.

Spend a day in Silver Lake

Silver Lake is still the place to go see emerging indie acts and undiscovered musicians in dive bars and small clubs, but it is also an extremely walkable Eastside neighborhood. Rent paddle boats on the Silver Lake Reservoir, or walk it alongside families, pets, and couples. For shopping and people watching, take the stroll to Sunset Junction, a stretch of boutiques, cafes, and restaurants on Sunset Boulevard.

Shop at the Rose Bowl Flea

While this shopping destination is in Pasadena, not Los Angeles, locals love making the trek to California’s largest flea market. Typically held the second Sunday of a month, this event draws hundreds of vendors who stake out spots to sell antiques, collectibles, clothing, you name it, in front of the Rose Bowl stadium. Pro shoppers and interior designers know to go for the early bird special (when doors open at 6:30am), long before the brunch crowds emerge for the early afternoon. Always check ahead of time for the most up-to-date information on entry.

What is local beachlife like in Los Angeles?

You can take to the sands on some 15 beaches in LA County, notably Malibu, Santa Monica, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beach. One of the best ways to get from beach to beach is on bikes or rollerblades along the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, also partly known as The Strand. Each beach offers its own personality and perks, but no matter where you end up, there are plenty of beach activities for everyone from volleyball and surfing to brunch cruises and beach picnics. For those looking for something quintessentially LA: go roller skating at Venice Beach, or get in on a training session from celebrity trainers through Airbnb Experiences.

Can I hike from the Griffith Observatory to the Hollywood Sign?

Griffith Observatory is perhaps one of the most beloved hikes in LA, a place where you might even cross paths with a celebrity who is getting their steps in for the day. One of the more typical hikes starts on the 2-mile trailhead of the Greek Theatre. Expect the best views of the city, and if you go further, you can even stand above (and behind) the iconic Hollywood sign. The best way to ensure you stay on the right path is to go on guided hikes with in-the-know locals.

8 – Tick whale-watching off your lifetime achievements list

whale watching in Los Angeles

Rarely are Mother Nature’s largest creatures visible from a city — let alone a sprawling metropolis — but in LA, whale and dolphin sightings are a dime a dozen.

Perfect for the whole family, a professionally-narrated whale-watching cruise is one of the most fun things to do in Los Angeles, hands-down.

Sail off the Palos Verdes Peninsula on a medium excursion boat to see marine life up close. Spot humpback and sperm whales, dolphins, and sharks, as you sail along the coastline with a refreshing drink on hand. Keep an eye out for seals and sea lions too!

Most tours make stops at Balboa Pier and Fun Zone so children and adults can enjoy the beach or ride the Ferris wheel.

Depending on the type of cruise you choose, there are dolphin-watching and whale-spotting excursions that venture to Newport Beach side instead. Over 2.5 hours, be driven to secret spots around the bay where the intelligent sea mammals are known to call the waters their home.

If you’re staying closer to this part of L.A., opt for tours in Newport, however, if you’re near the Long Beach area, whale and dolphin-watching boat trips around Palos Verdes Peninsula are more convenient.

9 – Experience the wet and wild fun of Raging Waters Water Park

Raging Waters Water Park, Los Angeles

California’s largest waterpark (60 acres) Raging Waters has activities for all ages, including the Aqua Rocket — the only hydromagnetic water coaster in California — and Speed Slides with an eight-story-high apex.

For a different challenge, however, take on the Lily Pads obstacle course: walk across the pads using the overhead ropes and try not to wipe out as you cross the lagoon!

If you’re looking for a more intense ride, try getting inside a tube that drops you straight at 26 feet per second. With Bombs Away, you can also choose to go through loops to the pool — from a height of 300 feet.

While there are plenty of adventures for children such as Volcano Fantasea, a family can splash down together in a five-person raft through a 550-foot long channel.

Visiting Los Angeles on a budget?

Next to cities like NYC and San Fran, Los Angeles is also considered one of the pricier destinations for nightlife and eating out, for example. But blessed with both the ocean and mountains, there is loads to do outdoors, and for free!

However, if you’ve arrived to revel in a pukka sightseeing adventure of Hollywood and the people of Tinseltown, with all of its remarkable landmarks and attractions, consider Los Angeles Passes .

Itineraries include a Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm, Aquarium of the Pacific, the Big Bus Celebrity Homes & Lifestyle Tour and more.

Where to go next?

While there is an abundance to explore in Los Angeles, there are many things to do in California and other epic areas to travel to within the country’s third-largest State.

If you’ve satisfied your Hollywood cravings, move on to more laid-back areas like Long Beach or discover the things to do in Santa Barbara (a 1.5-hour drive from Downtown LA).

Also traveling the same distance, travel from Los Angeles to Palm Springs, where the sun never stops shining. With many fabulous things to do in Palm Springs , like exploring the Joshua Tree National Park, it’s a perfect weekend escape.

If the O.C. stole your heart in the early 2000s, or you’re just chasing the good vibes, head on over to Orange County, a 30-minute drive from LA, passing by Long Beach on the way. Endless beach days, boat tours or learning how to surf are some fun things to do in Orange County .

If you are looking for a unique activity, travel to the southwest of California. Uncover the magical things to do in Temecula and experience a hot air balloon ride over fantastic vineyards.

Heading down south from Los Angeles, for a completely different Californian feel visit San Diego. It’s under two hours drive from LA, and Joshua Tree National Park is in between the two, further inland. Exciting things to do in San Diego include indoor skydiving, plenty of museum visits, boat rides on the bay and cycle bar parties.

If your time in the city is limited, but you would like to see the other areas outside, multi-day trips from Los Angeles are great options. Take three days to explore the Cali coastline, for example, or choose an extended five-day tour instead.

Just four hours away from LA is Las Vegas , and with so many fun things to do in Las Vegas, there are Las Vegas tours from Los Angeles from two to seven days.

Final thoughts

Experience the celebrity treatment in Los Angeles, or if you’d prefer a vacation to the sunny city that focuses on adventure, there are plenty of things to do in Los Angeles to satisfy all types of travelers.

If your kids go crazy for dinosaurs – and really, what kid doesn't? – then a visit to La Brea Tar Pits is sure to be the highlight of their trip. Although the pits look like the set of a cheesy PG movie, hot tar has been bubbling from the earth at this spot along Museum Row in the Miracle Mile for about 50,000 years. And from the gooiest part of LA, more than 3.5 million fossils have been discovered. The adjoining museum houses many of the artifacts found at the tar pits; consequently, it is home to one of the largest collections of Ice Age fossils in the world. Recent visitors said the site was very educational and the amount of fossils was impressive.

You can check out the tar pits completely free of charge, but museum tickets start at $15 for adults and $7 for children 3 to 12; reduced entry fees are available for students and seniors. Developed in the early 20th century, Venice Beach is modeled – canals and all – after its  namesake city in Italy . Admittedly, the experiment didn't live up to its Italian inspiration, but the neighborhood has become distinctly Californian, embodying the spirit of the wealthy, the alternative and the just plain bizarre. Rather than towering churches and intimate pizzerias, you'll find canal-side mansions near funky boutiques and restaurants.

6 Unique Tours In Los Angeles

Anyone who's ever walked along Hollywood Boulevard has been solicited by folks hustling tours of celebrity homes and movie landmarks. We're not knocking those tours, but if it's not your thing, we understand and we have a list just for you. Here are a list of our favorite offbeat tours, including dark journeys through the macabre and one that's hosted by a clown.

Dearly Departed Tours

Dearly Departed has been conducting grim and grisly tours around Los Angeles for a decade, and their storefront on Sunset Blvd. has been open to the public for the last couple years. This is where you'll meet the rest of your tour group, but the Hollywood spot also has some chilling artifacts on display, like the suitcase Jayne Mansfield packed the night she died and pieces of Sharon Tate's fireplace. Founder Scott Michaels says their staple tour is the 'Tragical History Tour.' This tour has been acknowledged as the inspiration for the tour seen on FX's American Horror Story: Murder House . The 25-mile tour is three hours of bad news, including notorious crimes, the fates of Hollywood icons like Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, plus lesser known but equally unlucky Angelenos. There are no ghosts or legends to drive ticket sales at Dearly Departed (though they do offer a ghosts and legends walking tour if you're curious), as Michaels says "the truth is good enough." In fact, they strive to tell stories the way they actually happened and often debunk false mythology.

In addition to the Tragical History tour, Dearly Departed also offers a number of specialty tours. Helter Skelter retells the story of the Manson Family, and there are tours showing famous movie scenes. Near Halloween, you can take a tour with only shooting locations from horror films. One of their more unique tours is the Nasty Nellie Tour, in which actress Alison Arngrim (best known for portraying Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie ) talks about her experience growing up a child actor in L.A.

Every year, Dearly Departed raises money to mark one unmarked grave, usually a person from the entertainment industry, and they also donate to a victims' rights charity set up by Sharon Tate's mother, Doris Tate.

Dearly Departed . 6603 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood. Dates and times vary. Tragical History Tour is $48, see website for other tour info and pricing.

Crimebo Crimebo is our favorite guide to the bizarre and macabre side of Los Angeles. He's a clown with a well-researched knowledge of Los Angeles' most treacherous urban legends. Jump in Crimebo's van and he'll take you to an apartment building where they say a cannibal granny used to live, or the spot where they found one of the Hillside Stranger's victims. Maybe he'll take you down to the old L.A. County Jail and tell you about a mysterious prisoner who never had a cellmate he cared for—there was a rumor that cops would stick you with this guy to get rid of you. Or Crimebo might take you over to Linda Vista Hospital, rumored to be one of the most haunted places in Los Angeles. While Dearly Departed is 'just the facts, ma'am', Crimebo's as much a showman as a tour guide, and a ringmaster as much as a historian. Crimebo also does some walking tours.

Crimebo once appeared on The Travel Channel. His guests freak out about a cockroach, so we're actually not sure how they made it through the whole thing without losing control of a bodily function or two.

Esotouric Esotouric offers a robust array of tours, often delving into a noir world of back alleys and intrigue. They offer a chance to walk in the footsteps of L.A. legends like Raymond Chandler, shocking misdeeds. And there are tours that expose the historical significance of downtown's beautiful buildings. Occasionally, they even pair up with Crimebo , or a forensics expert that can shed some light on their process. Some upcoming tours will walk guests through the true crime stories of the Night Stalker and the 60 Freeway Slayer, two notorious SoCal serial killers, and sinister side of Echo Park . A new tour puts an Estouric spin on Hollywood : "No, you won't see the stars' homes or hear about their latest real estate deals, but we'll show you where some colorful characters breathed their last, got into trouble that defined the rest of their lives and came up with ideas that the world is still talking about."

Esotouric . Times, dates and ticket price vary.

A+D's Urban Hikes with Mike the Poet The Museum of Architecture and Design offers urban hikes around interesting neighborhoods hosted by Mike Sonksen, perhaps better known as Mike the Poet. Mike, a native Angeleno, leads the tour with an emphasis on architecture and history, of course, but he also performs his poetry along the way. Past tours have included Koreatown, Leimert Park and the L.A. River. The next urban hike hits Highland Park.

Urban Hikes . Dates vary, but all start at 11 a.m.

Neon Cruise On Saturday from May through October, the Museum of Neon Art offers a three-hour tour in a double decker convertible that explores the different pieces of flickering neon around Los Angeles. Hosted by 15-year veteran Eric Lynxwiler, the tour explores history, architecture and culture in Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles. In particular, guests visit DTLA's Broadway District and Hollywood Boulevard. There are two intermissions, frequently in Chinatown and at Canter's where guests can use the bathroom, get a bite or grab a drink. Lynxwiler says his top three neon signs in L.A. are an animated Buddha in Chinatown, a glowing heart at a church in Westlake and a blue-haired baker at Canter's Deli.

Neon Cruise . Saturdays at 7 p.m., May through October. $55/person. 4th and Main, DTLA.

L.A. Art Tours This unique handful of tours offers a small group the chance to explore DTLA's modern art scene. They offer private tours and the occasional special event, but their guided group tours are fun, casual and informative. The downtown L.A. Graffiti and Mural Tour is led by local artists who explain not only the history and personalities of the street art visited, but some insight into how street art is created and its culture. We toured with Hector Calderon , who took us around the Arts District and showed off a number of recent murals. The tour also includes a stop at Art District Flea, which sells locally made art and other goods. L.A. Art Tours also offers a tour of the Brewery Arts Complex, the world's largest live/work arts colony, as well as the Santa Fe Art Colony Tour. Here, guests will meet working artists in their own environments.

L.A. Art Tours . Location, price and times vary.

Los Angeles 'Domestead' listed for $2.3M with 'whimsical' gardens: Take a look inside

2538 Sundown Drive, in Los Angeles, CA is listed at $2.3 million by Compass.

Zillow went wild for this unique, geometric "Domestead" in the hills of Los Angeles.

The home at 2538 Sundown Drive is for sale at $2.3 million, listed by Compass agents Carl Gambino and Ariel Putman, and was recently shared on real estate fan account Zillow Gone Wild .

Designed by LA architect William King and built in 1982, the listing comes with several gathering spaces in and around the home, with charming gardens, a wraparound deck and a garage that could be used as studio space.

"This is definitely the exact kind of house where you would dream," Gambino said in an interview with USA TODAY. "It's a very special house where people immediately get, you know, emotionally connected when they're there."

More real estate photos: They bought Florida party destination 'Beer Can Island' for $63k, now it's selling for $14M

Architect designed 'Domestead' for a young woman

Putman said the architect does not design much anymore, but she believes this is one of his greatest homes.

She said King designed it for a young pediatrician, whose photos still hang around the property.

"I think (it's) really cool that every owner since has just kind of preserved her memory for the space," Putman said.

Quarter-acre property a 'whimsical environment'

The two-bed, two-bath home sits on a quarter-acre lot, and Putman boasted the gardens and terraces as a draw for potential buyers. Plus, it has a great view of the city, she said, making it the ultimate LA outdoor space.

"It has like this wild garden feel, but very, like sophisticated in a way. It's all native plants and trees and like fruit trees, everywhere," Putnam said. "So like iit creates the most like whimsical environment for entertaining."

Gambino said the Glassell Park area where the home is located is popular among artists, musicians and actors. Many people who fit the bill have come to see the house, but it has also attracted a wider range of potential buyers like a chef who would use it entertain, and other business people who are interested in the home as a piece of art.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — More than a dozen people suffered mostly minor injuries when a tram used for tours crashed into a railing at Universal Studios Hollywood near Los Angeles, authorities and the company said.

Los Angeles County Fire Department units responded shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday to the theme park in Universal City, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of downtown LA, the agency said in a social media post.

The California Highway Patrol said that while the tram was negotiating a turn, its last car collided with a metal guardrail, “causing it to tilt and eject multiple passengers.”

The fire department said 15 people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. The highway patrol’s statement on Sunday said some of the injuries were moderate, but didn’t specify a number.

Universal Studios Hollywood said in a statement Sunday afternoon that tours have resumed with a modified route.

“Our thoughts continue to be with the guests who were involved, and we are thankful that based on agency reports, the injuries sustained were minor. We are working closely with public agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, as we continue our review of the incident and safety remains a top priority,” the statement said.

The highway patrol, which is leading the investigation, said alcohol and drugs were not considered a factor.

The tram circuit, called the World-Famous Studio Tour, offers a glimpse behind the scenes of Universal movies including “Jaws” and Jordan Peele’s “Nope.” The theme park will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tour starting Friday.

Nuggets at Lakers picks and predictions

Nuggets 109, Lakers 103

The Nuggets (-165) are moderate favorites on the road, as they look to close things out with a sweep for the 2nd consecutive season against the Lakers (+135).

Denver has won 11 in a row against Los Angeles, so it’s pretty hard to consider the Lakers here. However, Denver is a much better play laying the little bit of points.

Against the spread

The NUGGETS -3.5 (-110) were actually underdogs in Game 3. That’s hard to believe. The books have installed Denver as a slight favorite, as they look to broom the Lakers +3.5 (-110).

All the defending champs need to do is win by 2 buckets to get the job done. Denver has won the 3 games by an average margin of just 5.3 points per game (PPG), so none of the contests have been lopsided. But the Nuggets have been moving the ball around better, while the Lakers have tended to set picks to create space for LeBron, and they don’t move nearly as much on the offensive end. It’s a clash in styles, and so far it’s Denver’s style, which is winning out.

UNDER 218.5 (-110 ) is a strong play as Denver looks to close this one out, while potentially cashing low for the 4th consecutive time in this series.

The Under is 6-1 in the past 7 meetings between these teams, too. These teams were on an Over roll to close out the season, but defense has reigned supreme in this series so far.
