I enjoy seeing a new city on one of these get off and on open roof bus tours. If the weather is nice, definitely sit up top, the headphones provided allow you to select the language you prefer and throughout the bus ride you're being provided details about certain buildings, landmarks, neighborhoods, plazas, history of past events or annual events celebrated in the area. The info is prerecorded and not tailored to any local events, no recommendations or suggestions of what to expect at any of the stops. During spring months there are extended hours (until 10pm) the buses come by every 10 min or so. There are two lines, modern Madrid and old Madrid .. I enjoyed old Madrid (line one) better, I got off in several bustling neighborhoods with lots of shops and outdoor bar/restaurants that I would not have found on my own and definitely to far to walk to from my hotel. Bus stops are marked with a red stickers with their logo. There are a couple of places where both lines cross each other in case you want to see the other side of Madrid. Buy your pass at a number of newspaper stands through the city, don't loose the receipt the bus attendant gives you or you're done for the day and will need to purchase another ticket, if the earphones don't work right away check the volume on the keypad, for whatever reason it's always the volume turned way down low (I saw lots of people seat hopping until they figured it out). On Sunday, for several hours there are several road closures so check for temporary route changes. It's pretty obvious and there are taped signs at the stops affected so you know where to go for the next bus stop.

We paid $75 for three people for the day to hop on and hop off. We were told the last bus would be at 6PM. At 5:30 PM we were informed that all stops were cancelled except for one, nowhere near where we wanted to go. I insisted, we were told that the bus would run till 6PM. This is lazy behavior. If you schedule your bus service till 6 PM then you should honor this schedule. This would NEVER happen in the US - this is abhorrent practice in my opinion by this company.

Buyer beware! The one day tour is not 24 hrs as we stupidly learned yesterday. Purchased 3 tickets at 7:40 pm for the day tour, only to find out it they were done at 10:00 pm when their day was over. $54 euros wasted. Had the audacity of telling me "oh you bought them online, sorry" Mucho cuidado, compramos 3 tickets por el "dia" el dia para esta compañia no es 24 horas. Los compramos a las 7:40 de la noche y solo eran buenos hasta las 10:pm - $54 euros por esa mierda! Tienen la audacidad de decirte, "oh los compraste online, lo sentimos"

Nice bus and people but audio was very poor. Not a great deal to see but still a great way to get acquainted with the city. Please improve your audio portion of the tour.

There was a ton of traffic when we went so I will not fault them for that, but it was not worth the money. It stopped every 200 feet in the already high traffic tourist area and then only a few other places. The driver left to get food with no warning while we all just sat in the bus for 15 minutes it was weird

Have much enjoyed Hop On Hop Off. bus tours in other cities. The Madrid City Tour was AWFUL! Waited 1.5 hours for a bus that had room for us. Spent most of the tour crammed into the lower level where seeing anything was difficult. Stood in the isle for part of the tour. Very OVERCROWDED and very UNPLESANT.

It was a terribly long wait, well over 1.5 hours and we were told buses arrived every 15 minutes, not true. Then no seats. It was over crowded and a safety risk. We could not see the sights. The ticket person could make the system take our prepaid tickets. Such a disappointment.

Guide was unintelligible, recording directed us to things we couldn't see, could see very little out the bus windows...we bailed after half a dozen stops and walked back. What a waste of money.

Not bad for a Hop on Hop off bus. I am not unfamilar with these tours as I do take them in larger cities. I enjoy them for the transportation and did so in Madrid. I booked the two day ticket online which was worth it. I used two different bus lines and was happy with both. The Madrid Hop on/ Hop off comes every 15 minutes so you are not pressured to make it back by a certain time. The buses are quite comfortable although they can get crowded. People get on and off the bus quite often, so you can get or change your seat rather quickly. My hotel was at one of the stops so it made things easy for me at the start and end of the day. Travel smarter not harder! This bus does not have a live commentator but headphones with many different languages. It is quite informative and helpful especially when you want to know where to get off. These buses do take longer than the metro or cab but if you have time and plan well, you can make the Madrid Hop on/ Hop off bus work for you.

we attempted to go on a tour on a Tuesday morning outside of peak season. we bought tickets in advance and then spent 50 mins waiting at a bus stop with 4 buses going past with no availability. the company can see we have not been able to use the tickets but refuse to refund us
