Usually I book family holidays online but we we're looking at destinations we weren't really certain of. With 3 kids we have to make sure it caters for all of them as the youngest will be under 2 and the eldest 10. We ruled out Cuba and I left Michelle the task of finding us alternatives. 

We were emailed several options which all looked fantastic and fitted within our budget. We decided on the Moon Palace, Mexico that Michelle recommended as it looked simply fantastic! 

I'm certain the kids are going to love it especially having an Ocean View to wake up to every single morning ! All those little bits which would usually be left to me are all taken care of...seats, cot, meals...I'm looking forward to the fact that all arrangements are taken care of and we have someone to get in touch with when we're out there if we need to. 

It really is a tailor made holiday where all your needs are taken care of. I have no hesitation in recommending Michelle and will definitely be booking again! Just have to wait for the trip to come around now !!

We always book our holidays through thomsons which has been fine in the past if you know what you want! This year we wanted something a little bit special as celebrating 40th birthdays and 10 year wedding anniversary, plus we have a 6 year old and will have a 6 month baby at the time of travelling too so a lot of things to take into consideration!!

We knew we wanted to go to Mexico as that is where we got married 10 years ago but we needed help with the right resort and accommodation given that our circumstances had changed so much since our last visit.

I contacted thomsons hoping for some advice on the right resort and accommodation, we wanted somewhere luxurious to celebrate our special birthdays and anniversary (with a private feel to our bedroom) but also important for us was to have entertainment and activities for our 6 year old to keep him busy, child friendly enough where we would not feel a burden to other holiday makers and have a nice beach.

Thompsons gave me the option of three hotels that may suit but after reading tripadvisor reviews none of them seemed to appeal to us, i went back to them with my concerns but they then seemed to lose interest with me, making me feel i was being a little difficult!

I had seen posts and reviews on facebook for Michelle Stammers - The Travel Genius and thought i would give her a try to see if she could come up with any alternatives for us and im so glad i did! Michelle was amazing, she really listened to all of our requirements and came back with lots of options and she kept going and tweaking until we had the perfect package.

She really made us feel like nothing was too much trouble and cared more about getting things exactly right than just trying to secure another off-the-shelf booking! The service doesn’t stop there either, Michelle also takes care of the online check-in and airport hotels and is available throughout your holiday if you have any problems or need any advice.

MAYOR OF ROYAL SUTTON COLDFIELD CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

To celebrate International Women’s Day held on 8th March 2021, Cllr Jane Mosson, Mayor of Sutton Coldfield joined together with local women virtually via zoom, to reflect on their successes and achievements, particularly over the last 12 months. The women in attendance discussed the International Women’s Day theme of Choose to Challenge amongst other topics including good health & wellbeing, period poverty and volunteering during the coronavirus pandemic.

Following a warm welcome by Cllr Mosson, the Mayor invited five inspirational women to speak and share their stories.

First up was Stella Thebridge who spoke fondly about her career as a librarian and shared photographs including a meet and greet with Dame Judi Dench. Stella told the ladies of her shock at receiving an MBE on the Queen’s New Year Honour’s List 2020 for her work in libraries. Stella is a volunteer at Holy Trinity Church and has a passion for promoting the town’s heritage.

The Mayor then welcomed Hannah Simnett , founder and CEO of Cherished, an organisation providing attachment focused support for girls in primary and secondary schools. Hannah founded Cherished 10 years ago when she was still a teenager, working with young girls and women who suffer low self esteem. Cherished now works with over 75 schools, local and national and have trained more than 5000 professionals including trauma training. Hannah said “ At Cherished, we have adopted how we work in order to continue making a difference to young girls lives, thank you Madam Mayor for allowing me to share my story.”

Next to speak and share her story was Michelle Stammers , a local business woman and owner of The Travel Genius. Michelle offers ideas and inspiration to her clients based on her own experiences and is fortunate enough to have traveled to over 50 countries including trekking to Everest Base Camp and viewing orangutans at a sanctuary in Borneo. In May 2020, Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer and began to share her journey on social media to show the highs and lows of her treatment and life in lockdown. Michelle was shocked when she received an email from Madam Mayor asking her to speak at today’s event saying “when I was diagnosed with cancer last year I wanted to be fully transparent with my friends, family and clients documenting how life has changed for me, I never would have guessed how many people it would reach!”

Bozena Benton was then invited to speak. Bozena is President of Soroptimist Sutton Coldfield, an organsiation who encourage women to have an equal voice and to achieve their individual and collective potential not only local but worldwide. With great passion Bozena spoke about the work they have done supporting women who have experienced domestic violence particularly during the last 12 months, alongside work with schools and international efforts with a female mental health programme in the Philippines. Bozena said “thank you to Madam Mayor and to the contributors for such an excellent event celebrating women on this special day .”

The last woman invited to speak was Jackie Benzecry, founder of local charity Breast Friends Sutton Coldfield. Jackie give hope to those in attendance by sharing her own story having been diagnosed with cancer 20 years ago. Since then, Jackie co-founded Breast Friends and have continued to support local women ever since. Jackie said that becoming part of Breast Friends, and growing a support network for women in a similar position to her has been the best thing that ever happened her and that it was an honour to speak today adding “ I have been so impressed and inspired by what ladies in Sutton Coldfield have been doing, particularly during the pandemic.”

After the event the Mayor thanked all in attendance for a wonderful and emotional afternoon adding “Today we celebrated inspirational women from Sutton Coldfield, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to their career journey and their achievements. Thank you to everyone who participated.”

‘Creative’ agents enlist Race Across The World stars to promote A-Rosa

A Brilliant Travel homeworker who “took a leap” when she met the winners of Race Across The World at a conference is set to host the TV stars on a river cruise with the help of A-Rosa.

Michelle Stammers, who runs The Travel Genius in Sutton Coldfield, approached Cathie Rowe and Tricia Sail after the stars spoke at last September’s Barrhead Travel conference in Palma, Majorca .

“I had an idea, thinking outside the box, to promote my business to a broader audience and wondered if they would be interested in a collaboration,” said Stammers.

“I needed to take that leap to ask Cathie and Tricia. I chatted to the A-Rosa team there too, then with their head office.

“A-Rosa recognises the value of agents, and it’s nice to have a supplier who supports your ‘self-fam’.”

Stammers is working on the marketing project with friend and fellow Brilliant agent Carrie Gibson, who is based in Lichfield and will join the cruise. The agents are paying for the Stansted-Cologne flights, while A-Rosa is supplying cabins for the week-long Southern Rhine Experience cruise, departing May 25.

“We have to invest in our business to make it grow,” said Stammers.

Lucia Rowe, A-Rosa River Cruises managing director, commented: “We are delighted to be supporting Michelle with this trip. Watching an agent being creative and actively going the extra mile to promote river cruising is so encouraging and something we just love to see.”

Cathie and Tricia said: “This will be the first time for us on a river cruise and we are so excited to see what it will have in store. The ship looks amazing; we are sure it will exceed our expectations.”

The agents will film a live taster video with Cathie and Tricia before they depart, then share the stars’ experiences on social media.

Stammers highlighted the importance of networking at conferences and taking the initiative with self-fams. “I take a list of bookings for the coming year and ask suppliers for little extras for my clients such as upgrades,” she said. “It is not just a jolly; you’re there for a reason, it’s your business.

“Last year, I did Fred Olsen, Windstar and MSC self-fams with agent rates. I had breast cancer in the pandemic, so normal fams are too tiring. I’m on the mend now.”
